the Husker Buzz Edition Big ten Media Days. Coach Will
addressed the media yesterday and Sean had a lot to
say about the quarterback situation. He seemed pretty pleased by
the three quarterbacks that we have here who all started
games last year. Good morning, Sean, Good morning guys.

Yeah, from Matt Ruhle, I think you know, they really
like the spot they're in with three quarterbacks that have
been starters in major conference games a year ago. And
you know, there's really probably not very many, if any
teams in the country that can say that with Danny
Kalin coming from obviously Virginia Calandria with what he did

at un l V and then what TJ Latif was
able to do last year when Dylan Ryola got hurt.
So they got a good situation. But let's be clear,
this is Calandria's job, and you know they're they're excited
about what he's going to be. But that room is
in great shape as they get ready to open up
fall camp when players report on Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
We kind of for I forgot about TJ Latif, but
coach said that he's he's bigger, stronger, and it seemed
pretty high on him yesterday. It's always good to have depth.
What about the running back position, what did coach reveal
about that yesterday?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Well, we know this that Mikai Nelson is not going
to be internally suspended, and you know, with no charges
being filed from his July situation and he was key
West Florida, you know that there's there's nothing more from
the Nebraska and that's going to happen there. So he's
back with the program. He'll be in fall camp, et cetera.
(01:39):
They added Tyke Hayes, the Penn State running back, and
Matt Ruhle said he told his GM Pat Stewart, we
were in the NFL right now, we'd be out getting
a running back, and they kind of use the same mindset, like, hey,
we would take this guy no matter what because we
need a back, and it just made sense. But you know,
they've got three or four guys there as well, with

Jamal Rule and Isaamh Mosey as well, that are all
going to contend, and they would like to have really
three playing games. One kind of more of a featured back,
one a secondary back, and then kind of a multiple
guy that can be a receiving type third down back.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
What about the overall tone from coach rule He in
his opening statement seemed to suggest, Hey, we're moving in
the right direction. Remember what we were dealing with before
I got here, These players got here, the rest of
this coaching staff got here. We hadn't won a bowl game.
Now we're going to bowl games. We're winning occasionally bowl

games where we didn't come here to be seven and six,
But we are moving in the right direction. We realize
that's not good enough. That was kind of the tone
that I got from coach. What did you get?
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, that's definitely been the message. And you know, the
ending of last season, you know, the way they lost
to Isowa, the way they lost to Penn State, the
way they lost the Utah that really soured in any
progress that's maybe made at times a year ago, just
to get the doors blown off you by three opponents,
especially on defense at the line of scrimmage. And and
(03:10):
everyone knows that the way it ended last year was
not acceptable. But I think he still likes where this
team is at, the additions they've brought in and and
and what they've done, and the big X factor is
going to be quarterback and and what they can get
out of Callandria now moving forward, and the offensive line
upgrades they made in the portal, and then how the

scheme comes together under Robo Larich, and and and what
he's going to bring to the table because they've got
to get this defense figured out rolling and they have
a schedule early on. I think that allows for some
of those things, so they've got to take advantage of
that now as they move forward in this year.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
What else did you hear from coach or not here
from coach yesterday that you want to address?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Sean, Well, we talked to Troy Danon too, so I
want to make sure I get that on the air.
I had about a ten minute interview with Troy, and
you know, the the Save College Sports bill that is,
you know, being talked about. You know, it doesn't look
like they're going to be able to get that vote in.
It's still could happen before the recess, but I know

he's really excited about just some of the things he
could do, Like they're going to raise what Nebraska can
pay the athletes, where there could be twenty one million
for recruiting, twenty million for player retention and five million
for women's sports, and that actually really reflects probably what
Nebraska is paying. But they have to use the you know,
(04:35):
the different ways to do it with the multimedia deals
and other things. So they're trying to make some changes
to this bill and hopefully I know that goes through.
So yeah, and then you know, the basketball ticket receipt
was something we discussed because that was a big hot
topic this last week. They're not going to do that
until twenty twenty nine. Now, it was going to happen
(04:57):
in twenty twenty seven, and he told media and they
never intended to have that basketball ticket receipt. It was
always going to be volleyball, then football, and then later
on basketball. So they pulled that back. But the stadium
receipt for football is going to be pretty intense, and
they know that there's going to be so much going
on here in the next couple of years for the fans.
(05:20):
And the volleyball one was very intense. This football one,
I think is going to be at a whole different level.
Was just trying to manage all the ticket holders and
you're talking about over sixty thousand season ticket holders for Nebraskat.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Football right, Yeah, that's certainly gotten a lot of attention.
The reseating of season ticket holders and some of these
other sports. We also learned, Yeah, go ahead, Sean.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
It's like trying to find new seats for the whole
city of Belbie. It will be an easy job.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Moved down, moved down a little bit real quickly, Sean.
We also learned yesterday about I'm on Green saying that
he has Parkinson's disease. Where do you rank I'm in
the great Husker running backs of all time?
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah, I think he's definitely in that discussion for top five.
Obviously Rogier is at the top of that list, and
then you know Mon Green is kind of in that
next group, and you know Lawrence Phillips with his talent
and where he was drafted. Obviously, Roger Craig now in
the NFL Hall of Fame and what he brought to
the table. Mir Abdullah Rexburg Head were more recent backs.
(06:27):
But I'm on Green, there's no doubt is in the
top five in my opinion of backs that have played
at Nebraska and won a national championship, multiple national championships,
and what he did as a as a freshman when
he was on he came in on that ninety five
seasons and Lawrence Phillips had the situation that year, and
he stepped in beautifully. And he's a great person. I've
(06:49):
known him on and got to known him over the years,
and watched him play in high school. I mean, it's
just tragic to hear that news this past week.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
I watched him real close in high school. He was
running all over over our Alston rams that year. So yeah,
we we would wish him the best. He says he's
managing well medication diet, but it was startling for someone
that young, he's not yet fifty to get a diagnosis. Sean,
