Things Smart People Have In Their Junk Drawer
Here are a few we agree with: tape measure, small sewing kit, tools, super glue, etc.
We want to know about the weird stuff in your drawer. Perhaps a phone case that doesn't fit any phone in the house?

Gen X is discussing which Gen Z beliefs they think are total nonsense. Here’s which beliefs they just don’t get.
  • "Thinking that their boundaries are other people's responsibility. It's their responsibility to maintain their boundaries and mental health, not everyone else's."
  • "That clout equals value. No! Validation is cheaper than ramen, and it doesn't feed your soul."
  • "That dating apps want you to find someone."
  • "That influencers live the lives they post."
  • "That AI is making their writing better."
  • "Believing tolerance is synonymous with unconditional acceptance."
  • "Thinking that all struggle is bad."
What else do you think?

Corey's Health Update
She had a Zoom call with her hepatology doctor. She was great. They talked about the next steps in treating the high numbers with her cholesterol and triglycerides. Of course, she need to eat better and exercise more, but she also needs to cut out alcohol completely. The doc also wants to do a more thorough ultrasound to look for scar or fat on her liver. Yay🎉More to come.

Second Date Update
Elena called us about Victor. They matched on Hinge and went out for seafood in Mill Valley. Elena said they shared oysters, talked about work, discussed hobbies and what books they are reading. She thought it was easygoing and natural. She thought they bonded over mutual interests. But Victor never got back to her.

More variety from the two thousands, the nineties, and today
it's Star one on one three, It's Marcus and Corey
five fifty seven.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good morning everyone, Hi, how are you Corey?

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Well, I had an unexpected doctor's appointment yesterday. Okay, there
was some scheduling snaffoos and some technical problems. So I
apparently had a zoom call at four with my hepatology
doctor and she's new and what we were you know,
I had when earlier and the guy was a tool bag.
So I said, I don't want to work with you, right,
I remember that, And she's so amazing. She actually asked

(00:34):
about me and what I was going through, what was happening.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
The evolution of Corey's attitude yesterday afternoon was amazing. It
was an amazing transformation because I remember you texted me
and You're like, I don't know I'm on the zoom
call that I don't even know about. I don't know
what's happening. I'm sitting here, I'm waiting for the doctor.
And then she comes on five seconds later. Oh my god,
she's amazing.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
She is amazing.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
I was more frustrated because I'm getting all these weird
text messages from their automatic system. Sure that aren't act
And I guess I was supposed to talk to her Friday.
She had to reschedule, but no one told me.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Right, so it got changed.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Oh yeah, it's it's just technical problems. But she was
so amazing, she was so incredible.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
I have to quit drinking period for a while. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
I negotiated with her to at least wait till after
your birthday.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Oh so you get till Monday? Yeah, I mean because
I also have to change my diet.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
I have to. I really have to focus on low
carb you know, Mediterranean diiets because and then I have
to go in it's all about the fatty liver man.
And my cholesterol is not good and my tregles drolds
are not good. So U and I have to exercise
three times a week at least thirty minutes because I'm

(01:50):
getting my thirty minutes, but it's not getting my heart
rate up right. Okay, so apparently I'm going to become
a gym bunny. Oh my god, oh doesn't drink.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
A fitness influencer hashtag, fitfam hashtag when swoll gains.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
When you talk to something about your drinking, it's like
and they ask you point blank, do you wake up
wanting that drink? And I'm like, no, not at all.
Do I enjoy it?

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Is it fun?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Sure, it's a good time, and I don't want it
to get out of hand, But also I want to
live so right, That's what.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
I always say about about drinking, is like I'm not
trying to get somewhere, like I watch guys do want
what do they call boiler makers where you're doing a
shot and a beer and you're trying to get somewhere.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Well, don't you drop a shot? And like, I don't
know if it's a boiler maker.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
I thought that went into like a liquor drink, like
a shot goes into another liquor drink or I don't know,
doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
My point is like I just enjoy a nice bottle
of wine.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Or sipping on something and hanging out with friends. I
told her, I go it's mostly social. My drinking is
mostly social, Like I don't I mean even if I
go to the brick house hey with my friend Kim.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
But if you if you when you start saying when not,
if when you quit for a while, all your numbers
will reset.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
You got to give your body a chance to heal,
and that's what I think it is.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
So, you know, and Jeff's on board, which is great
because that'll be good support.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Your personal chef has that he's got the assignment. Now
he and I might be on different pages.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
So I'm going to look for maybe not necessarily me
a plan because it's never really work out for us,
but something that I can when I'm not with him
and I'm fending for myself, something that's like already prepared.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Maybe I can help with that too, if you want.
I'm just offering my services, thank you.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
And I'm also meeting with a dietitian.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Great. Yeah, this all sounds like it's in the right direction.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Ew doesn't sound fun at all at all. There's no
fun there, but it feels like it's in the right direction.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
I just the whole.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Point of me sharing this with you is I had
such a good experience with doctor Courtney Sherman, and then
I said, now you have to listen. If you're going
to make me quit drinking, you have to listen to
our show.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah, can we give her a plug? What network is
she with?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Usiaze f okay and just really kind, very nice, very thorough.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Under Courtney Sherman ladies Yeah and gents. Yeah, very good.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Well you know what their little good news came out
of that little rose coming out of the crack sidewalk.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I knew it was coming, I know, but led it
really really well.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Okay, great, thank you for the update. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Well, variety from the two thousands, the nineties, and today
it's Star one on one three, it's Marcus and Corey.
Here's some interesting psychology things smart people.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Have in their junk drawers. Everybody's got a junk drawer,
isn't it funny?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
You can have a junk drawer and you get it
all nice and organized, and then thirty three seconds later
it's all messed up again.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
The only thing that saves our junk drawer my wife
needs things in their place, so she routinely polices it well.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Because you can't find anything. Sometimes it was left up
to me.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
This is so, this is smarter than average pop. What
they keep in their junk drawers. And one of them
tools instead of having to run down to garage or
the toolboxes. I've got a flathead screwdriver, and I've got
a Phillips screwdriver. And there's a smaller versions than take
of a lot of space, but you know, just for
a quick tight here and then I just throw it.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Back at the door.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I have a regular size Phillips regular size slot head,
and then I've got one with an extra long barrel
on it, just for those hard to reach places.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Something else smart people keeping their drunk drawer a small
sewing kit. Yes, does anybody still know how to sew?

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Do you do you?

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah, I can throw a button on if there's like
like like a little tear.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Not only was I a girl scout, hello, but my
mom had a sewing machine.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Hello. I used to be able to like sew like
for real. Yeah. Super glue is in the junk drawer.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
That's usually for my fingernails, my fake nails.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Do you use super glue on your fick nails?

Speaker 1 (05:53):
It's one of them breaks I don't understand. Do you
put it on your on your actual nail?

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yeah? Isn't that like unhealthy?

Speaker 3 (06:02):
No, because I'll go into the salon and they'll file
it all down and it's a permanente.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
It's a temp fix. Rubber bands.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
I have a bag of rubber bands. Tape like scotch tape.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
I would say Scotch tape. Yeah, we have the double
sided tape two for gift trapping.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
I have that for wardrobe. There you go.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Binder clips, yes, safety pins, yes, note pads and pens.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yes. A flash light I actually have.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
I didn't realize how many small flashlights we have. I've
got one by my bed so i can get out
of the bedroom without turning the light on and waking
up my husband. And then I've got one in the
kitchen in the junk drawer, and then.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
I have one of my purse.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Okay, but they're small, they're like probably maybe three four into.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I have one of those mag lights that I take
if I go on a walk after dark. That way
in case I get, you know, ambushed by a pack
of raccoons.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
You need what Jeff has a headlamp? Have a headlamp? Yeah,
I do have a headlamp.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Batteries, Yeah, although we did find a separate case.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
For our batteries that has a battery like we have that.
It's called a battery Daddy. We have that.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
So that's test the charge to see if you need
to get rid of the battery or keep it.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
I'm going to put one more item in here that
I love, which is one of those it looks like
a coaster.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
It's rubber and you use it for opening jars. What's
the weirdest thing in your trunk?

Speaker 6 (07:25):
Dart?

Speaker 1 (07:26):
So we do a lot of leftovers. I like to
use those old soup containers, and my wife got tired
of me just having unmarked soup containers in the fridge.
So I got a roll of blue painter's tape and
a sharpie and I mark my soup containers with the
contents and the date.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
That's great, Chef tip.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
I don't know if that's that weird because I have
a USB cable and the end of it is a dog,
and when you put the end into whatever you want
to charge, the dog starts. Let's just stay dancing in
a repetitive motion.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
I want that visual. Did not have that on making
What's the weirdest thing you have in your junktor? Hit
us up with you talk back on the Ironheart Radio
app a variety from the two thousands, the nineties, and
today it's Star one.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
On one three. It's Marcus and Corey Thursday morning, good morning.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
I'm going to throw back a little bit to our generation,
jen X and I know we don't like to pit
generations against each other, but these are interesting, and I
want to know what you think. Older generations calling out
the gen Z beliefs that they think are nonsense. That's
us and the boomers calling out what we see in
twenty twenty five that we think is bunk. Number One
thing that belief that clout equals value. Clout cloud meaning like, likes, shares, engagement,

(08:43):
social media the thing that put it in perspective for me.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
And I can't remember what I was watching, but.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Meta made up this currency of likes and shares and
follows and follows. This is made up currency that now
basically runs the free world.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
And the sad part is is you can buy that
cloud because you can buy your own blue check mark?

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Can you still buy your check mark?

Speaker 1 (09:08):
You have to now now it's almost impossible unless I'm Beyonce.
It's almost impossible to get like an organic blue check mark. Okay,
like we have one, but we earned it. You've had
it for a while. Yeah, now I see everybody's got
a blue one. Now it's now it's cheap and easy.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
The belief that AI is making their writing better. I
love AI. I treat it like an assistant, but.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
It doesn't sound like you. No, but you can train
it too. That's the scary part.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Here's where I think it goes sideways, is that AI
is going to rob the younger generations of their ability
to critically think and create because we're at that point
where if I don't know how to deal.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
With something, I just punch it into chat EPT. All good.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
And we're going to get to the point where we
forget it's a machine and there's no stopping it.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
I don't know how you would.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
I think you have to just evolve into the kind
of like we evolved in, the thinking that maps on
your phone is the only way to get around, right.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
I know people who've lived in this town for twenty
years and still use GPS sure to navigate down.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
The easiest thing to do. I could go on about
AI forever, so let's move on. Here's another belief that
older generations think are BS buying into the hustle culture.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Explain, when I go online and I see somebody showing
off their quote unquote grind, how much they work, how
many hours they put in?

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Are we talking like also maybe at the gym?

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Maybe yeah, workout the same kind of thing.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Whoever commented on this in this article says it's just
a way for companies to make more money and abuse
their employees more.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Yes, I believe that.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
But also I'm of the belief that if you're successful
and you never show me you working, to me, that's
true success.

Speaker 5 (10:47):
Right.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
So that sounds weird, but it's like, don't tell me
you're grinding, show me your success.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
It's the same joke we make when you take a
picture of something you're eating when you're dining out.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Oh, if you didn't take a picture, did it really exist?

Speaker 3 (11:03):
You should just be able to prove to people you're
successful by your actions, not by your videos.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Right, And frankly, if you're grinding all the time, I
feel like you might have a flawed process.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Maybe what does it work? Smarter not harder? Exactly? There
are several on here, but I'm gonna end it right there.
And we know.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Everything from our rocking chairs.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
That's right, Get off of my lawn, easy to armchair
quarterback from my rocking chair.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Hey, here we go.

Speaker 7 (11:28):
I talk about it's what's trending on Star on what's
happening in entertainment news, the biggest stories of the day,
and everything people are talking about today in the Babe.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel live off the air in Definitely
after the FCC chair criticized the host comments about last
week's shooting. The FCC chair threatened to revoke ABC affiliate
licenses as punishment. And this comes just two months after
CBS ended Stephen Colbert's show. Travis Kelcey, Let's get back
to that. He's talking about wedding planning with his fiance

(12:01):
Taylor Swift. He was on his New Heights podcast and
the guest was Jimmy Fallon, and Fallen asked if he
had been making plans with the enchanted singer, and Kelsey said,
that's the next step, but he's shut down any stress talk,
saying that's gonna be easy. I have to figure out
to win a football game.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
First, tell me you have copious amounts of help without
telling me you have copy. They're not sitting around trying
to figure out how to pay for this. They're not
sitting around dividing up, dividing and conquering.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
More worried about a fording a venue.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
No, they had a staff meeting and then everybody dispersed
to go do things.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
The Kansas City tight end, whose team has dropped its
first two games, is keeping wedding details quiet, but teased
were live music kind of people. Justin Bieber may have
hinted that Hailey Bieber's expecting their second child.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
That's what some fans think, but we can't confirm how
old this picture is that he posted. He posted a
series of Instagram photos, including one showing a baby bump.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
It be an older picture and he's just reposting it.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
I'm worried about Justin right now. I don't know what's
going on. If I'm being honest, he's been a little bizarre.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
I mean, you know you've done a photo dump when
its old photos, you just like you're looking at him.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Sure, let's see start with something kind of serious but
kind of cool.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
The FED has cut interest rates.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Yer point two five percentage points, okay, setting the target
range at four percent to four point twenty five cooling
economic activity, slower job growth, rising unemployment even and as
inflation stays above target, and they are saying there might
be two more cuts this year depending on economic data.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Okay, that's as serious as I'm gonna.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Get today, because we got to give it up for
your Golden State Valkyries.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Nice.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Their inaugural season did come to an end last night
at SAP. This was a crazy loss. They fell by
a point to the number one team in the WNBA
in the first round of the playoffs and nobody left.
Nobody left Balhalla. Dude, like a family, I need to
get to a game. If you were a Valkyrie fan

(14:04):
like you know the vibes, Oh totally. What a great
first season. So congratulations ladies. Yes uh And then finally
Ed Sheeran coming to town. It's gonna be at Levi Stadium. Yes,
this is gonna be massive. This is gonna be going
on next year.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
And then.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
A couple of ways to win next week seven thirty
five and nine thirty five. Put a reminder in your
phone because we will have tickets to give away on
the air if you want to win some on social
media right now. Check out the post on the Star

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Variety from the two thousands of the nineties, and today
it's Star one on one three. It's Marcus and Corey
doing second date update once again.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Yes, this is where we talk to you about the
date you went on, see how it went, and figure
out why the other person's not getting back te.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
We actually put a couple together yesterday, I know, roundbreaking,
see how that went.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Anyway, Atlanta. That means there's hope for you. Are you there?

Speaker 5 (15:13):
Yes, I'm here.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
We're basically experts. You know, I don't know if I
would say that.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
I want to hear about We want to hear about Victor.
So how did you guys meet? And then let's run
through the first date because I understand he has ghosted,
so tell us about it.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
So we actually match in hintch okay, And we went
out for seafood at the Mill Valley Okay. And we
share oysters, and we talk about work, we talk about
books that we're currently reading that we love, in common hobbies.
It flows so naturally. Sure, And you know, when you're

(15:49):
on a date, then you feel like you know a click,
you know sure.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
I think when you know you know.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
You know you know it right, Yeah, you always your instinct,
but he is an action m Ia.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Before we get into Corey's theory, I have to know
then they stay, where are you from? Okayo? I love
your accent.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
We were just we were just talking about Rosie Perez
this morning and how much I adore her. You're more
of a Sophia Argara in my opinion, even though she's
not part of I'll stop. I'll stop now.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Is this your second?

Speaker 1 (16:28):
No, that would be inappropriate anyway. Sorry, my dad was
a linguist. I'm fascinated. Let's get to Corey's theory. What
do you think, Corey?

Speaker 3 (16:35):
Well, I think that Victor is a computer hacker who
heads a group of specialists who tests the security of
various you know, San Francisco companies. Sure, and he's approached
by two National Security Agency officers who ask him to
steal a newly invented decoder. So he and his team
discovered that the black box can crack any encryption code,
posing a huge threat if it lands in the wrong hands.

(16:56):
This is when Victor realizes the NSA men who approached
him are rogue agents. They frame him for the device's
inventor's demise.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
To where he is on the run.

Speaker 6 (17:07):
Oh, you'll never get this war games, I know, but close.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Not really, but okay, Helena is like, what is happening
right now? Never mind, Let's just let's just move on.
If anybody's got a thought, Talkback's always open. Here's what
we need to do, more of the task at hand.
We need to call Victor and see what's up.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Helen. Are you ready?

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Okay, we're going to play a song. We're gonna regroup.
We'll call him after this.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Second date updates Star one O one three or variety
from the two thousands, the nineties, and today it's Star
one O one three. It's Marcus and Corey. We've got
Elena on the phone. We're doing second date update. This
sounds delicious. She and Victor were in Mill Valley having
oysters and seafood and with the weather the way it's
been and a lot of hobbies in common.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Helen, are you still there?

Speaker 5 (17:56):
Yeah, I'm here.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Okay, I just want to make sure we're all set.
Let's call Victor because I don't like that he ghosted you.
Let's give him a shout and see what's going on.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Okay, here we go. He Hi, may speak with Victor. Please,
Hi Victor. It's Marcus and Corey from Star one on
one three. What's good Victor.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
The radio station?

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Yes, that's us, Good morning, Good morning. Do you listen
to our show? I've heard about it.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
I don't really listen to the radio.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
In the morning. Okay, well nobody likes that guy. You
should because we're delightful.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
We're doing something called second Date Update, and I was
wondering if you wouldn't mind coming on the air with
us and talking about a recent date you went on.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Sure, it's a lot. Oh, he already agreed. I know
I'm not going to overexplain.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
So we got your phone number from a lady that
you took out recently who is feeling ghosted, and so
we wanted to check in with you. Her name is
Elena and the date sounds awesome. But did something go wrong?
Did you ghost? First of all, I guess I want
to ask first.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
Uh yeah, yeah, it just I don't think it would
work out.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
What happened? It was okay. We went to a seafood
place right and sounds okay.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Yeah, it was really good. The food was good, well
mine was. That's kind of a part of it. So
we shared some oysters and Elena dousts, each one of
them with so much ketchup it was revolting for me.

Speaker 6 (19:41):
You put ketchup on oyster catchups, ketchup cocktail sauce.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Is it really that different? I don't know, not that.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
I would definitely different there or else, you know, you'd
see ketchup on oysters and stead.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
I mean, if you want to get nerdy, the sweetness
of the ketchup does not play well with the sweetness
of the oys.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
You want to get stupid about.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
It, right, And I'm kind of a food and you
want that horse rounder tang to balance it out.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Victor's on my level. Continue, but that's not it.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
So she ordered crab and instead of using you know,
the crab crackers for the clock crabbers, she was just
using her bare hands and just like ripping it open
and like not caring about anything. She sprayed like juice
all over my shirt.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
And that's just passion to me. That's almost weirdly for me.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Maybe she's like a mermaid because that's what Darryl Hanna did.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Stop. We got to stay on track anyway, Sorry, Victor,
was that it? I mean that was it with the food.
But then you know, at the end when.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
Her martini came, she wanted me to do a boomerang
on Instagram with the martini.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
I guess, but still do this one time. She just
she had me do her like three or four times. Okay,
it's just knowing. I didn't know what was going on.
I'm not a fan of, you know, social media much.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
But yeah, it was just a lot of little things
that I'm just I don't know, for a first date.
It was a little much.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Okay, she must be strong. Okay, Well here's the part
where I tell you Alenta is actually listening. So Elena say, hi,
are you there?

Speaker 6 (21:22):
Hi?

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Doctor?

Speaker 6 (21:23):
Hi?

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Hey Elena.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Okay, so you're a big ketchup fans, Well, what's the
difference between ketchup and gartail salts?

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Thanks?

Speaker 5 (21:32):
I mean horse reddish, come on, thank you?

Speaker 4 (21:34):
I mean like eight ingredients.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
I get it. If you're a footy, I get it, okay,
but some of us it's different. And I thought, you know,
using my hands is almost like a down to earth
kind of girl. I'm not trying to pretend to be
somebody that I'm not, but hey, I get it. Not
everybody plays social media. Well, okay, I feel like you know,

(22:01):
taking the picture was the moment when people go out eat,
they do social media with their food. I just I'm sorry,
I drabbed the life. That's just who I am. So
you have to immerse yourself into the eating experience. If
I try to not eat the way I am, then
I'm just pretending to be someone else. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
First of all, that's what first dates are. You always
pretend to be someone else on their first daid. But
if you want to immerse yourself, you've got to be
in the moment. You're not like taking videos. Are you
going to watch those videos later?

Speaker 7 (22:34):
Like?

Speaker 2 (22:34):
Who is that for?

Speaker 4 (22:35):
Don't you want to just like be there with me,
have a conversation and then maybe talk about it later,
Like why do they have to be in the moment?

Speaker 5 (22:42):
Probably you probably don't understand it because that's how social
media works. And I'm not here to play dress up.
I'm here to be So if you want to be fake,
that's up to you. I mean, the fact that you
just mentioned that you are not yourself on the first
dag scar all right.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
You guys, this is just all right, hang on, this
is not gonna work.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
I'm calling it really two different personalities.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Second Date Update seven oh five weekday mornings you replace
at nine oh five. Don't forget the podcast. You can
download binge. Listen Marcus and Corey Second Date Update. More
variety from the two thousands, the nineties and today at
Star one oh one three Marcus and Corey seven to
twenty one. Good morning, everybody, Good morning.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
So Thursday, it's Friday Eve, Friday Eve.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Before we get to your health update, which I know
is important, can I tell you about something going on
that's really dumb on the.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
Side of the board. Sure, there's an ant crawling on
my screen. I've been seeing ants in here and I
can't do anything about it because it's a touch screen.
And if I hit the him, if I squished him
in the wrong place, not that I would squish him,
I don't want to. You can squish an ant in
the studio.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
I'm sorry not to be mean, because I love ants
and I love aunt man.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
I have to wait till he gets to an innocuous
part of the screen, otherwise I'm going to fire a
bunch of stuff off anyway.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
That's weird though, because I've seen ants in here too.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
There's something going on at any rate. So Corey's been
on a health journey, trying to figure out a few things,
trying to get you to feel a little bit better.
And within the last couple of weeks, I have to
hand it to you because you've done some housekeeping, oh
that I thought was important.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
A lot of housekeeping.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
Can you rattle off a couple of those really quick?
And then we get to what is pertinent for today.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
Got my Mamma Graham, which was clear, great job, dropped
off my coli guard box at UPS. I did some
fasting so I could get some blood work done.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Nice work.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
My primary care person, she doesn't mind us. They her
name Jessa Hell who I see it when medical. She
wants me to do blood work every three months because
a while back, like probably over a year ago, they
were concerned I had a fatty liver. And this what's
really weird is this all started because my feet kind
of felt numb, right, And so I went to a
foot doctor and I went and got tested for diabetes,

(24:49):
and we did all this blood work. And when we're
doing all that, she realized that the numbers for my
liver were out of range, right, very very high. So
we're doing some testing. I'm trying this and trying that.
And then I finally, finally, finally had a zoom call
yesterday with a doctor of hepatology. And I was a

(25:09):
little trepidacious because last year I had my first zoom
call with one of those doctors and I actually did
it and here, and I had nothing to hide, because
so you're over there working so you could hear him.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
To have Corey describe this phone call would have been
different than what I heard, because if you had described
and said that guy was a toolbag, I'd have been like,
maybe you're overreacting, But no, he was an actual toolbag.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
He didn't ask me hardly any questions.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
I couldn't believe he said what I heard.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
He didn't believe that I could quit drinking if I
needed to, and.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Was it made me feel shamed. Now. Conversely, the one
you had yesterday.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
Doctor Courtney Sherman, who I hope she doesn't mind him
giving her a.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
Shout out O Daze.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
She was so kind and so nice and so thorough
and you know, we went over my numbers and my
cholesterol is way too high and my triglycerides are way
too high. Those of course can be associated with what
you're eating, but ultimately I need to stop drinking period,
full stop, full stop, and because and we talked about

(26:10):
my habits, and I said, you know, I got I
developed some really bad habits when I was alone and
missing my husband and hanging out at the brick house
too much. And I admit it, I drink too much.
But now we have to reverse it. You know, I
need to take some time and let my liver heal,
and then we're going to do some other things. I'm
going to do another ultrasound where it's an actually deeper

(26:30):
ultrasound and see if there's any scarring, if.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
There's fat there. I hear I fatty liver is actually
quite common.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
A lot of people checked in that listened to this show,
A lot of our listening family were like, yeah, I
deal with that, So I think it's more common than
people think. And also I've read your body has a
tremendous ability to heal itself if you give it the opportunity.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
To give it the opportunity, and I think, you know,
the first ultracentnd I had the camera just added ten.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Pounds, so obviously, but every thing she.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Said made sense. She wants me to get with a dietician.
I need to exercise more because I got used to
just walking everywhere and I get my steps in and
so then after I stop living in the city, Oops,
I'm on the couch. So I need to get my
heart rate up for lest thirty minutes three times a week.
Probably gonna lean more towards the Mediterranean diet, lower carbs.

(27:20):
So I'm I'm excited about it. I'm bummed that I'm
in this situation, but it's not you have to take
care of it.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Yeah, it's something you have to do, and we gotta
pause the party. Well we have.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
I did get permissioned from my doctor that I could
start after your birthday party this.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Weekend, one last hurrah. Can imagine Corey in the corner
at Cameron's just Mopey wouldn't have I wouldn't have the
confidence to sing, that's for sure. I mean the stuff
we sang last time we carry ogate that required liquid courage.
All right, it's all.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Good, and I just can't, you know, give UCSF and doctor.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Sherman enough credit for Yeah, what's up?

Speaker 3 (28:03):
Bedside manner is huge, especially when you're nervous and scared
and you don't know what's going on with your body.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
If anybody is listening has gone through this and you've
got some pro tips, you can always check in. We
always appreciate the wisdom. You have a really smart audience,
so we appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
And there's a really good feeling of having a great
team around you. Sure like you know everyone from like
my chiropractor to my pa to my hepatology doctor.

Speaker 6 (28:31):
It sounds silly. I sound like I'm you know, you
got a squad though I got a squad. I said
you always wanted a glamb squad. Here we are a
little different. It's internal. I'm trying them on my face,
liver look pretty. Thanks for the update anyway. The talkback
is open if you want to check in on the
iHeartRadio apper. Just send Corey some vibes. If you're listening
on the stream right now, thank you.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
It's time for good news with Marcus and Corey. Sometimes
all you need is a one. It's odd to make
it a great day, so let's do this.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
It's good news on Star one one three.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Law so we give you good news twice in the morning.
It's seven. Just trying to brighten your day a little
bit Corey with the good news.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
I don't know if you've heard of the Brave Barbie program. No, So,
Mattel has this program that helps kids who might be
in certain situations, like with mobility issues or you know,
down syndrome or hair loss. So they design these barbies
to make the kids feel better and to make them
feel more like it's a common thing. Sure, So the

(29:35):
first ever bald Ken doll is going to be created
for children that are experiencing hair loss and cancer or
immune diseases. These Brave Barbies and Kens will come with wigs,
fun accessories like hats, headphones, sticker packs, and they're not sold,
They're distributed through nonprofits.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
That's what I think is so cool. Oh, that's phenomenon.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
It started in twenty thirteen. More than one hundred and
twenty thousand dollars have been given to kids, and this
fall another ten thousand we rolled out worldwide. And it's
it's Barbie's push for more inclusivity, which has also brought
dolls with mobility aids, videlago hearing aids.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
I mean, it's important.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
It's important because we've come to a place where everybody's different,
everybody's going through something and if you can have a
toy that makes you feel like you're just.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
That you're normal. Yeah, that's it, exactly.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
As someone with with a condition with cerebral palsy, like
you just want to feel normal.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
I think that's what I liked about the Barbie movie.
All types of barbiees, all types of cans. You know,
there were so many different ones.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
That's a great move in the right direction. And I
love that they don't sell them. Oh yeah, the giveaway
is awesome.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Well, variety from the two thousands, the nineties, and today
it's Star one on one three. It's Marcus and Corey
time to play the bas favorite trivia games called what
You Know About That.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
We've got a pair of tickets to see Hannah Berner

Speaker 5 (31:10):

Speaker 2 (34:59):
One one three.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
It's Mark Corey about to get out of here. Jillian
has arrived. Hello, Hello, good morning sunshine.

Speaker 9 (35:05):
Good morning you guys.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
How you doing good? How are you? What's going on?

Speaker 9 (35:08):
I'm good. I was up late last night watching the
finale of the summer I turned pretty.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
You haven't watched any of that, but it looks like
it's very compelling.

Speaker 9 (35:17):
It's very compelling. It's definitely not made for a woman
my age.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
But what does that mean. It's a younger audience.

Speaker 9 (35:25):
I think their target is early to mid twenties. Okay,
but all my mom friends, all my sisters. We are
so invested in the lives of these characters that are
so much younger than we are.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
I mean, you're twenty six, what's the big deal? I wish,
I wish.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
It's kind of fun that to put yourself in that
mindset again, because you know, after being married for a while,
it's kind of fun to watch these relationships unfold and
then you know, experience these feelings for the first time.
I've never even watched I've just seen a lot of
coverage of it.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
What is it called again? This mid summer? I Turned Pretty?
And is it a glow or it's a romance show?

Speaker 9 (36:02):
Basically, the main character is best friends with two brothers
and they've known each other since they we're little. She
comes back to spend the summer with them, and she's
older and they're.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
A little more interested in her than more than like
a family.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
Sure. Oh yeah, awesome. Oh this is great. It's so
dramatic and I love it. That's cute. What's going on
the show today?

Speaker 9 (36:25):
It's going to be playing the New Edge, Sharon, and
then music that makes your shoulders to me, which I love.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Okay, I don't know what that means yet, but you
know what she'll be on after ten, she'll explain everything.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
I'll be tuned in for sure.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Come on, Grandpa, get with it right, I gotta get it.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
We'll have a fantastic day and Corey and I will
talk to you tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Bye.
