We got Greg Lewis, we got Mario Bailey after a
thirty five to thirty four loss to Louisville in the
Sun Bowl. The Huskies finished the year six and seven
on the season and Jedfish's first campaign as the head
coach of the Husky football team. We have a lot
to get to the decision to go for two at
the end of the game by Jed, the second half defense,

(01:31):
the way they shuffled their offensive line, and showed us
a couple of faces that may be around to start
and play for this football team next year, including freshman
Pockey Fee now at left guard, who was on the
field for the last couple of possessions for U dub
Did they win the game even though they lost because
of what they got from number two? And was a

star born Tonight in Demon Williams, we'll talk about all
of that with Greg and Mario. The text line is

Fourth down and goal at the one.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Williams out of the shotgun, one by two formations, snap
to Williams, throws the fade to the right side.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
It's caught.

Speaker 6 (02:47):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 4 (02:49):
Touchdown?

Speaker 7 (02:50):
Giles Jackson just the second fourth touchdown game and Husky
astreak his sixty third final college football games checks and
catches it from freshman quarterback to Mont Williams and the
Huskies pull within one.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
All right, So, I think the question that everyone needs
to have answered.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Did Mario Bailey ever have a four touchdown game when
he was at Washington?

Speaker 8 (03:13):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Or no?

Speaker 3 (03:15):
H I doubt it. Rest in peace, Coach James, Huh
you never had a four touchdown game, did you?

Speaker 9 (03:21):
I had two three touchdown games in the first half
and never seen the second.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
YEA love it? Yeah, I love it. We are back
on the air.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Husky Talk post game brought to you by Chevy Tracks,
bigger and boter like the Northwest Tracks, is the small
suv that gives you amazing style out all the tech
at an unbelievable price. Speaking of unbelievable, I don't know.
I mean you you guys, tell me kind of where
your head's at. You lose the game to Louisville thirty five,
thirty four, you lost the battle, but man, you may

(03:52):
have won the war because ninety percent of college football
football in general, is finding a star at quarterback. There's
teams that have them and there's teams that don't. And
it looks like Greg the Huskies maybe a team heading
in the next year that does have one.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
I mean, outside of that first interception he threw. I mean,
this young man had a phenomenal football game. It wasn't
just the fact that he threw for what four touchdowns right,
three hundred and seventy nine yards yep. Completion percentage was
extremely I think twenty four out of twenty six after
that interception, But there were times when he should have
been tackled for a loss and he turned it into

(04:29):
either an escape a short gain long gain. I mean
the touchdown run Jiles Jackson great game for him. You know,
four touchdown receptions and the key block on the rushing
touchdown for Demal Williams. But that young man was a
superstar to day. He looked every bit of what he's
been talked about. He can run, he can throw the ball,

(04:50):
he makes guys miss, he takes away sacks, he can
run on design run plays. I think, you know, he
should have been in much more on the goal line
this year. We would have scored sevens instead of threes.
I think it was definitely a victory for him, and yeah,
you want to win the football game. But what I
also saw is this team kept fighting. They didn't give up.

(05:11):
They got down two touchdowns, they kept going. Young guys
played like you said in the last drive, and you
showed that those guys, those offensive linemen gave him the
time that he needed on that last drive. So I
think everything you saw bodes well for the future. And
that's what we talked about at the beginning of the
radio show. This game is more about twenty twenty five.
I think this was a fantastic showing and I have

(05:31):
no problem with I'm going forward. Let's get the game
over with and get out of there and like you said,
go home healthy, don't let Demon sprain his ankle in
overtime or anything like that.

Speaker 8 (05:40):
So you know, I'm extremely excited about what we saw today.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Mario, how about you. I just think that was what
we wanted.

Speaker 9 (05:47):
We wanted to come out of the game and see
what we had at quarterback and see some of the
young guys, but particularly we wanted to see Demon. I
told you guys, I felt he should have started a
long time ago, and that just kind of proved my
point to me. Though you can say, like he's that
was perfect time for him, but we should have had
him in there a few games before then. Demand came

(06:07):
out spectacular. I've been saying it all year. He's a
bona fide playmaker. And what it looks like for next
year is he's about to be musty TV. Like people
are gonna have to come see this young man play. Yeah,
to have over four hundred yards in account for five touchdowns,
bring us back from two touchdowns down in the fourth quarter,
he just played spectacular. We haven't had thirty four to

(06:27):
thirty five points since the first game against Weaver.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
State that young man makes the future bright well, I
totally agree with that.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
That getting him going and finding And I don't like
to use words like savior in Messiah because I think
it's way too unfair for an eighteen year old kid
to throw those types of labels on a guy. But
he's making a lot of money. He's going to make
over a million dollars next year at Washington, and let's
face it, this is pro football now, and I think
more than anything else, you had to find a star,

(06:57):
even more importantly than winning the game. Would you have
Raither won the game ten to six and Demon Williams
plays terrible and you win because you play great defense
and you run the football, but Demon struggles through the air.
What he did today is exactly what this program needed.
I had no problem going for two. We can debate
the play call all you want, but as you said,
Jeremiah Hunter was wide open. He had beaten his man.

(07:20):
Maybe a better throw by the whatever, But Jedfish, this
is what drives me nuts about people that go after coordinators.
Coordinators jobs are to put players in position to make plays,
and Jedfish had called a play right on that two
point conversion that resulted in Jeremiah Hunter wide open in

(07:41):
the back of the end zone.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
What more do you want from a play caller? Absolutely,
and that's the thing. He put him in a position
to make a great play. Go back to earlier this
year against Washington State, probably had a bad play call.
But he's gotten better if you look at it from
that perspective. But like I been saying, he's a better
play caller when he's got Demon william running Demond Williams
type of plays. I think he feels comfortable in that

(08:04):
sort of situation with that quarterback. And it just shows
I think all of these things bot will for next year.
The way the Huskies played in the second half or
I'm sorry pretty much in the fourth quarter, with their
young guys everybody making plays. It just keeps you excited.
And you know you got to sell tickets too. That's
the thing about football. In order for the pay him

(08:24):
those that big money, that million dollar salary, they got
to be butts in the seat. He creates that excitement
to put butts in the seats, and so I think
all around the Husky football program had a big victory today.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Well to your point about what he did since the interception,
So his first two passes both got touched by Louisville
first one was tips, second one got picked off for
a pick six. From that point on, he goes twenty
six to thirty three seventy four four touchdowns, runs the
ball for forty eight more yards on a touchdown, so
four hundred and twenty two total yards of offense after

(08:58):
the pick six and five touchdowns. His NFL passer rating
because I like to do the NFL because college has
no cap and it's stupid and nobody understands it. His
NFL passer rating since the pick six was one fifty
eight point one. Does anybody know what perfect is in
the NFL? It's one fifty eight point three and he
was at one fifty eight point one. So look, you

(09:18):
can talk all you want about losing the Sun Bowl
and going six and seven and how much you hate
being under five hundred. Hey look you Dubb was four
and eight under Jimmy Lake fired him and then won
eleven games the next year. With the portal and the
amount of change you can make to your roster, you
can bounce back from a losing season pretty damn quick
in college football. So I just wonder do they have

(09:39):
the offensive line to take advantage of this guy? Because hey,
it worked today, Mario against the depleted Louisville defense. Will
that work next year against the Michigans and the Ohio States.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
And the Oregons of the world. We don't know.

Speaker 9 (09:54):
Right now.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
It doesn't look like it's going to work for next year.

Speaker 9 (09:56):
That was just a patchwork line Today's not gonna do
us any good next year. But what you will say
again about Demand is some linemen, some playmakers are gonna
want to come to Washington. I don't necessarily know how
the lineman think, but you get in the transfer portal
based on which you see the team that the team has,

(10:16):
and I think we have a great quarterback and that
could get us some linemen here. I.

Speaker 8 (10:21):
You know.

Speaker 5 (10:21):
There's a couple of things though, that I noticed about
this game. We listened to the Louisville play by play
guy before the game, and he said that their defensive
line is extremely deep and they play well. They're missing
their top pass rusher, but their defensive line is stout,
and those guys were You saw. There was no running
game that we could muster against this team. So not
only did Demand do what he did, Mario, but he

(10:42):
did it when he had to, when he had to
be good because we absolutely could not run the football.
So I think that this, you know, show that he
put on can be duplicated. Our offensive line is going
to be better next year than it was this year.
How much better, I don't know. I think that remains
to be seen, but it will be better. Yeah, And
they went out today, Softie, I'm telling you, they did

(11:03):
this against a good defensive That Louisville front was good.

Speaker 8 (11:07):
They didn't have a great pass rusher and thanks you
know that.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
Gat demandability maybe to throw some down the field, but
that was a good defensive front that we played against.
And he had to be good because we could not
run the football.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Well they had.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
I gotta go back and check and see when they
made this switch. But for a large majority of the
second half, I know, at least on the last two
scoring drives, they had Maximus McCree at left tackle. They
had Pockey Fee now the freshman, at left guard, and
they had land and Hatchet who's next year center, at center, okay,
along with Enoch at right guard and then as a
party over at right tackle.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Enoch.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
We saw a play on third and one that Jonah Coleman,
he just got clowned on third down, just destroyed on
third down.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
So he's not going to be your right guard next year.
More than likely Hatchett is going to be that guy.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
Geary and Hatchett and then as a party, we'll see
at right tackle, they got the kid coming in from
Kansas State. Maybe he plays on the left side. But
my point is they they ended that game with a
lot of guys, okay, including Rashid Williams at wide receiver
because Denzel Boston got banged up. A lot of guys
that will be at least for now until the spring
portal on this football team in a year from now.

(12:10):
So if your goal was to get yourself set up
for next season, if your goal was to get a
glimpse of what this program can be all about next year,
you got it. You got it today in al Paso. Yes,
it would have been nice to win the game, okay,
but you go for two, Jetfish even after the game,

(12:30):
check this out, Jetfish with the least. Woodward was asked
about the decision to go for two. The play call itself,
and when they decided to go for two, check it.

Speaker 10 (12:40):
You know, we had the ball, so we felt like
if we could go score there and make it a
thirty five to twenty eight game. Then it's just normal football.
And we got a great defensive stop. And then when
we did that, now all of a sudden, we had
the ball back with two minutes and fifty one seconds left.
So all of that was great. You know, we chose
a few days ago. We talked to the team, we're
going for two. Everyone knew that we're going for two.

(13:02):
We thought we had a chance at it. We didn't
make the play, and hats off to them, But it
was a heck of a football game, and that two.

Speaker 7 (13:08):
Point conversion from your vantage point, it looked like it
was going to be completed, didn't it.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
What did you see? Yeah?

Speaker 10 (13:13):
I mean I thought we had a chance at it,
but they made the deep defender made a great lunging
play and you know, knocked it down. But I think
we had what we wanted. We went to where who
we wanted to go to, and they just made a
nice play there at the end. And hats off to louisgo.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
We went to the guy we wanted to go to.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
You buy that that Jeremiah Hunter was the guy they
wanted to get the ball all along on that two
point conversion.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
I do buy that Boston was out and they faked
it to Giles.

Speaker 9 (13:41):
The quick was the fake to Giles Jackson, and that's
where you would think the ball was going to, so
to fake it to him, I just felt like he
just didn't get the ball off fast enough for the play.

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Yeah, and I think they liked to go to the
big receiver in these situations, either in the slant or
the fade. And you know, they got the bigger receiver
in because Denzel Boston was out right, so they wanted
to go to the other guy who had a little
bit of side.

Speaker 8 (14:04):
I'm just saying that's what they do. That's what they
like to do.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
No, I feel I don't really like the whole big receiver.

Speaker 8 (14:10):
I just say you liked it. I've just said that's
what they like to do.

Speaker 9 (14:14):
I'm saying that in this game, in this situation that
the Giles the young man went to Giles, Like in
the regulation right before the two point conversion, we went
to Giles like three at the time, and he's not
our big receiver. He turned out to be Demon's favorite
target for the day and he probably got like fifteen
or sixteen targets. So in the two point conversion, they

(14:35):
just faked to Giles because they had went to him
three out of the four players prior.

Speaker 8 (14:39):
I'm with you, though, I would have gone to Giles.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
I mean, he's having a speak tack career and let's
let's stop impost minute. Hats off to Giles Jackson, young
man who's been through a lot, has transferred out of
Michigan after promises that he felt like they weren't lived
up to there, came here, had some setbacks, had some injuries,
had the red shirt during that National champiship run, only
play in a few games here. Stuck with it, you know,

(15:02):
stayed here and ended up having a great first game
of the season in great last game of the season.
So hats off to him for all that he's meant
to Husky football in the last three years and to
stick with and go out strong.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Well he was.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
He was eleven of twelve on the day Giles Jackson was.
I believe he started nine for nine. I have to
go back and check exactly where that first incompletion came.
Remember the Indiana game out there in Bloomington, Giles Jackson
had another big game as far as targets. I believe
that day as well, but I mean, god, they they
they called a play on third down right before the

(15:37):
touchdown that went to Giles on the goal line and
the ball was in his hands, they were go and
it would have been out of bounce. I felt like,
which one the third down? The one to Giles Jackson,
you're thinking about the Demon Williams run.

Speaker 9 (15:52):
Right, No, No, I'm thinking that the pass to Giles
on third I thought he would have caught it out
of bounce.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Okay, well, there was one run at the goal line
where he had his hands on the ball and the
guy made great play and just knocked it away by McDonald.
So the point is is that Louisville did make some plays,
There's no question about it. But there were there were
plays to be made. I mean, you know, we can
talk about Jonah Coleman not getting the ball, but when
you blow your last timeout and you can't really run
the ball, maybe earlier in that drive was a time

(16:17):
to give Jonah Comben the ball. Red zone is gonna
be an issue though right red zone still seems to
be a little bit of an issue for this football team.
They did get the touchdown, They did call the play
that got Jeremiah Hunter open but they couldn't get the
guy the ball. I just think you were at a
phenomenal starting point for an eighteen year old kid. If
this is what the guy's gonna do in his second start,

(16:38):
what's he gonna do in his tenth start or his
fifteenth start.

Speaker 9 (16:41):
Well, Greg talked about it all year. He felt like
coach Fish can call plays for this young man. Well,
today seemed to be that. And they didn't even rush
the ball very well. He did for that touchdown, but
for the most part they kept him intact with the run.
But that young man can throw the ball. We already
know he can run the ball, so we wanted to
see could he make the throws. Well, today showed that

(17:02):
he can make the throws. And keep in mind, he
did this after he made the horrible play. He made
a terrible play, and sometimes young men fall apart when
they make that play, or they lose their confidence, or
they get tentative.

Speaker 8 (17:15):
He didn't any of that.

Speaker 5 (17:16):
So this young man has that moxy, that mentality that
regardless of what happens, something might even go wrong, I
have the ability to bring us back, to put us
back in this football. Then in the second half it
went down what happened to start the second half. Our
defensive line, just like every other game, just failed. They
just got worn down. I mean, just from the beginning

(17:37):
of the game, our defense could not tackle. I don't
know if it was the layoff hadn't played in a while.
They were mistackles, guys leaving their feet, guys taking bad angles,
and guys just flat out getting run over. They were
running the ball down our throats. But our quarterback, you know,
kept us in the football game and then made some
huge plays down the stretch that really put us on

(17:58):
the opportunity where we could have won absolutely.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
And you mentioned the way he started the game and
the way he responded. So Louisville takes the lead at
thirty five twenty one with a couple of minutes to
go in the third quarter, and Demon Williams on the
very next drive took two consecutive sacks. They get the
unsportsman alike on Giles Jackson, and you're thinking, oh my god,

(18:21):
Louisville's got the ball. They're up fourteen with fifteen minutes
to go, they're at their own thirteen. If they score here,
the game is over. And so how does Giles Jackson
respond to that drive with two touchdown drives of twenty
four plays combined for one hundred and fifty nine yards.
That's how he responded to that. So it's not just

(18:41):
to pick six Greg, it's the way he responded late
in the fourth quarter to a little bit of adversity.

Speaker 9 (18:47):
Oh, he had two drives, two drives to make it happen,
and he did it in both times. I didn't like
how we ended up in the red zone. I reminded
me of the Colorado game where we didn't give the
ball to Greg Lewis and at one time they didn't
give it to Jonah, but we didn't have any timeouts.
But at a time earlier in the season, I would
have said, give the ball to your best playmaker, which

(19:08):
is Jonah. Our best playmaker has changed and they kept
it with demand.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
Yeah, their defensive line wasn't playing today. Those dudes came
to play football. They were blowing our offensive line, our guards.
Our guards got their butts whooped today. I'm just gonna
keep it real. And so that wasn't a whole lot
of running room for Jonah or for Mohammed. And I
do believe if we don't, you know, use up all
our timeouts. When you got the ball first and goal
on the two, you got to run it at least

(19:34):
one time if you don't, that's if I'm a running back.
I'm feeling bad now. They didn't give it to me
first and goal on the seventh and I'm pissed off
right two. I might have had an insurrection during the game.
I might have just sat down on the field or something.
But yeah, that you wish they did have an opportunity
with timeouts or something, because Joonahkoma has been a great

(19:54):
player for us. He runs the ball extremely hard. Mohammed
is a hard runner. But you know, maybe without the
lack the timeouts, that just wasn't an option. Well yeah,
I mean their their last time out.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
They burned their last time out on second and goal
with the four yard line with a buck ten to
go in the fourth quarter. So from that point on
they got no timeouts left. They throw the ball on
second down, they throw the ball on third down when
actually demon got sacked on that play, and then the
fourth and goal play from the Louisville ten, they get
the p I call on Jeremiahunterwiz. By the way, I
gotta tell you, I think they got away with one there.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
Yeah, I'd see a whole lot, you know, Tony and
the guys seem to think it was really obvious one.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
Yeah it was.

Speaker 5 (20:30):
If Mario would have been upset, right, and I'll take it.
Trust me, he would have said if they didn't call it.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
But I don't know, I'll take it because this is
a Big twelve officiating crew that if you watch the game,
apparently these clowns have no idea what a face mask is,
because there were three of them, three blatant face masks,
one by the way, that would have gone against us
that wasn't called on Isaiah Ward, two against that that
should have been called against Louisville, and one that should
have been called against you, duv. Apparently the only time

(20:57):
a face mask is called by the Big twelve is
if a guy's head gets ripped off with his helmet
and you can see that his threat consistent.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Oh it was.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Terrible, absolutely awful. So I think they got away with
one there on the PI call. But Greg, I mean,
I do think that when you blow that last time out,
I mean, really the time to be running it maybe
would have been before that play or on second and
goal from the four, but they really were kind of up.
Maybe they could have run at once and I would
have had and they would have been, yeah, yeah, I
got you. All right, Well let's do this. We're gonna break.

(21:26):
Text line is open four nine, four to five to one.
Phone lines are open at two, age six, ninety five,
ninety five if anybody wants to hop on. I think
all of us agree that going for two was the
right call. The play call itself had no problem with it.
I just had to make a better throw if your demand,
and he'll learn from that. We'll come back. Got a
couple more segments. Huskies lose the Sunball, but man, they
may have found a freaking star in Demon Williams. Next

Speaker 3 (22:51):
What is your go to when you make a Dix run?

Speaker 4 (22:53):
Mario Deluxe and fries, cheeseburger and shake, specially on an
ice cream Sunday too, Cheese and a fry and seventy.
Dick's Drive In still serves up the best food of
the best price in the shortest time. So stop in
one of nine Puget Sound area Dick's Drive in locations today.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
What are you laughing at? Every week? He laughs at
that nothing. I don't get it. That's so funny. I'm
here to amuse you. Is that what's going on? I'm trying.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
I'm trying to remember the last time we were this
excited about a freshman quarterback. I mean, Locker started as
a freshman. Remember the Syracuse game when he went there
and was running around like crazy, And obviously we're all
fired up for Jake Locker back then. A little different
because Demon didn't get to start until later in the year.
But Mario said something earlier that you know, and to

(23:44):
his credit, he's been banging this drum the entire year.
He's still maybe wrong about it, but he's been banging
the drum the entire year. That Demon should have been
starting earlier. I would counter Greg and you can check
in here as judge and jury that it had to
happen like this, that demand had to sit back a
little bit, watch the second all time leading passer in
the SEC, learn how to be a pro a little bit,

(24:04):
go through the ups and downs, and then get a
chance to come in in a good situation where there
wasn't really a lot of pressure because the team was
kind of they weren't going to go for a championship
at that point. Obviously, the game he came in against
Penn State was already over UCLA. Hey, if you can
pull a rabbit out of your hat. Great, but this game,
we're not. Things aren't going well either. I thought Jed

(24:26):
handled it pretty damn good for putting the kid in
the right position to have future success.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
He says he should have played earlier. What do you think.

Speaker 5 (24:35):
I think it's close. I think they brought him along slowly,
which they should have. They should have given him the carries,
I'm sorry, the reps that they gave him during the season.
You could argue maybe a game or two earlier, maybe
I think that's reasonable, But I kind of like the
way they did it because I think ultimately this was
not going to be a year where the Hussies competed

(24:57):
for a championship, especially if you bring an eighteen year
old early in the season into that position of starting quarterback,
because he's going to take his lumps a little bit
and find Actually, if you think about how he played today,
that's because he had those reps earlier in the year,
and he's able to come back and play strong and
play well.

Speaker 8 (25:14):
So I'm okay with the way they did it.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
I think ultimately next year will tell the story if
he has a great year that they brought him along
right you can't argue with success, so right, you know,
maybe it would have won us one more game Mario
this year, what's the difference?

Speaker 4 (25:27):
Would they have beaten Iowa, would they have beaten Indiana?
Would they have beaten Penn State? Would they have beaten
Oregon if demon had been starting earlier. I think it
was after the Iowa game when you said, I want
to see more of the young guy, and we did. Yeah,
but he didn't start until obviously the Oregon game, and
really didn't get a lot of playing time until the
second half of the Penn State game.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
Yeah, I think we could have just done it a
little earlier.

Speaker 9 (25:50):
I felt like Will went through a very bad streak
of like maybe four games and he only threw like
one touchdown pass. I thought we could have snuck him in,
and I definitely thought he should have started against UCLA
before the Oregon game. But you know, it worked out
the way it's supposed to work out, and we're okay,
And I felt the one thing I liked about coach
Fish is he showed some loyalty and probably some integrity,

(26:13):
probably to his word to Will Rogers. I think he
probably told the young man he was going to come
in here and start, got paid a little money, and
I think he kept his word up to a point,
went at the end when you had to put them
on in Mario.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
You were calling for him at the Penn State game,
if I remember correctly, then going into the white out game,
that was when you felt like we should go ahead
and give him a chance. I can tell you I
was dead shit against that. But after that game Ucla,
hell yeah, they should have started in Ucla. I know
people go, well, maybe if which they won. Well, yeah,
and he played the majority of that game. He didn't

(26:46):
start it, but he played the majority of it, so
I could see you have started him. That Ucla game
probably would have been a great time to go to him,
but people were we want to get those extra Bowl practices,
so let's, you know, go with the best guy.

Speaker 8 (26:57):
It turned out to be the best guy.

Speaker 4 (26:59):
Well, and the other story obviously you got Niman coming back,
you got Jonah Coleman coming back. And in the last
two games, Jonah Coleman carried the ball twenty times for
forty five yards. One of them was a blowout, right,
which was the Organ game. Okay, you're not going to
run the ball when you're down by thirty points. I
get that, but this was a close game for the
most part the entire game. Things kind of got away

(27:19):
from them a little bit in the third quarter with
the way Louisville played. But did they not run Jonah
Coleman today because they could not run the ball or
because they made a conscious decision to put the ball
in number two's hands when they were having so much success.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Through the year. I felt like we couldn't run the ball.

Speaker 9 (27:37):
I felt like they were trying to make sure that
they stopped who I said was our best playmaker. They
were going to stop Jonah and make this young man
prove that he could pass the ball. Well, he proved
he could pass the ball, but they were not going
to let us run. And that's how we were able
to come back with his arm, and that's what he did.

Speaker 8 (27:54):
I think they did it. I think it was a
little bit of both. One.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
They did play great run defensive front, and I think
that was a strength of their defense, But it was
obvious coming in that their secondary was not the strength
of their defense. And so these coaches put the ball
in the young man's hands. They said, we're gonna cut
him loose, We're gonna allow him to play. Now, had
we had a little more success, I don't think it
would have been as much pass heavy as it was.

(28:17):
But I think it was certainly a combination of both.
They play good run defense, but we knew the coaches
put the we're gonna put the ball in Jonas' hands?
Is that secondary was a little suspect, no doubt, and
demon rand the ball twenty times. I mean, how many
of those were design runs?

Speaker 4 (28:30):
How many of them were broken plays where he took
off rpo right, improvised stuff whatever. But he was taking
a lot of shots out there, guys. And look, I mean,
he is a tough sob for being five foot eight.
He's getting popped by twitter and twenty five pound linebackers
and popping right back up. That's not gonna last forever, though.
They gonna limit that.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (28:49):
And one of those the time where he made that
nice spin move got away from a guy and he
got hit, that was targeting. He definitely got hit with
the crown of the other player's head in his face,
asking his helmet. And if he's getting targeted, you know,
taking hits like that every game, Yeah, it could be
a long season. You know, A guy who gets a
head injury, So hopefully they give him the situations to

(29:10):
do that when he can keep protect himself.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Were you concerned? Are you concerned about how much contact
he took today?

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Yeah, we can't have that. We can't he can't spin.

Speaker 9 (29:19):
He can't do his spin move in traffic in the
middle of the field either, So yeah, you're worried about it.
But he's eighteen seventeen, eighteen years old. His body can
take you right now, but that's not something you want.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
On a long haul. He has to stop that. Yeah,
no doubt. All right, let's do this. We'll come back,
grab a couple of phone calls, more thoughts from Greg
and Mario. Wrap it up.

Speaker 4 (29:37):
Huskies lose thirty five thirty four, but a star may
have been born today and Demon Williams, who just absolutely
put on a show. People are talking about this guy
over the country. Twenty six of thirty two three seventy
four four touchdowns. The interception for those that didn't see it,
it was a pick six on the second pass of
the game for Demand and at that point on he

(29:58):
went twenty six for thirty three seventy four four touchdowns
and he also ran for a fifth and ran for
forty eight yards on the ground four hundred and twenty
two yards of offense.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
From I believe he's eighteen.

Speaker 4 (30:12):
Nobody can really confirm that, by the way, apparently knowing
how old somebody is now is like you got to
know people to find that information like that. I think
he's eighteen, he could be nineteen. Either way, he's too
young to go to the bar and hang out with
us on New Year's Eagles. Good on Demon Williams Man
for having a hell of a game because he's got
a lot of people fired up for next year and

(30:33):
we're gonna ride that hype train all off season long.
Come back and wrap it up on the Husky Talk
postgame show next on ninety three three KJRFL.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Now back to Husky Talk Postgame Howard by your Northwest

(31:02):

Speaker 2 (31:03):
Out of the shotgun, Rose Demond Williams Ada Mohammad on
his right hip snapped to Williams. He's gonna throw on
first down, drops back to the fifty yard line, takes
a shot for the end zone as a man. Giles
Jackson leaps it, catches touchdown Washington. Giles Jackson takes it
in on a forty yard time from Demon Williams in
the Huskies with the first offensive touchdown of the game

(31:24):
under the sun.

Speaker 4 (31:27):
A big day for Demon Williams, big day for Giles Jackson.
Huskies lose the game thirty five thirty four, but again
a star is born in Demon Williams. Twenty six of
thirty two three seventy four four touchdowns for Demond and
he talked about the secondary greg for the Louisville Cardinal defense.
Demon Williams today had completions of forty forty nine, thirty four,

(31:51):
forty two and thirty one and thirty three in this game. Today,
I think a lot of people thought of Demon Williams
as a scrambler, as a running quarterback. First, uh, he
looked a lot like a passing quarterback first to me
this afternoon.

Speaker 5 (32:04):
Kids got a strong arm and he is very accurate
on the deep ball. You know, that's an art, that's
a skill set. Guys who can throw the deep ball. Well,
you know, we all love Michael Pennox. That's you know,
I mean what he did here. I saw him play,
and of course that's in the NFL next level where
he missed a couple on the deep ball. They always
talk about Russell Wilson in this town about how well
he throws the.

Speaker 8 (32:24):
Deep ball the moon.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
Yeah, that is a skill set and Demon looked extremely
good today throwing the deep football. So I'm excited. I
would ask a question, though, I know we're all excited
about Demon. Absolutely, star is born. Like you just said
all that, who had a better game? Him or Jiles Jackson?

Speaker 3 (32:42):
Demon?

Speaker 5 (32:43):
Giles didn't have the big mistake at the beginning. I'm
just saying Giles had a fantastic I mean, it would
be hard for me today to say who's the dog
of the game, because I think there's a case that
could be made for Giles Jackson.

Speaker 9 (32:54):
Well, I'm a receiver, and I would just say, if
they were giving out the Bowl, MVP, give it to.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
The quarterback right through for four and ran I get it,
I get it. So I'm gonna go with the quarterback.

Speaker 4 (33:05):
But who was more impressive given relative to his position?
I mean Demon Williams had to pick six, and I
know what you're saying, because without the pick six, they
may have won the game, right, I mean they lost
the game by one, right, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (33:18):
Jiles didn't drop any passions, he didn't have a bad route,
he didn't tip anything up. He played a great and
made some tough catches.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
Dude. He also had a near perfect passer rating after
the text. I mean, I get it.

Speaker 8 (33:30):
I'm just I'm just it's just a question.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
I'm still going with the quarterbacks.

Speaker 9 (33:35):
Jackson five years old, right right, I'm just slander.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
He's saying sixty college games, twenty three. He's played in
probably four six years. Greg came in eighteen, maybe seventeen.

Speaker 8 (33:55):
Was seventeen when he came.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
He's not slander. I'm just saying one is a freshman,
like a true freshman.

Speaker 7 (34:02):
Five.

Speaker 5 (34:02):
You should have started with that argument. He's a true freshman. Now,
maybe I'll give you some credit. You started with that argument.
But you know the Slanders man talking about his twenty
seven years. Answer, you stop that. Mark, just tell you
sixty college.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
Games sixty three, Actually it's sixty three.

Speaker 5 (34:25):
Sentimentally, I'm giving him my dog in a game number
five reason right, Well, yeah, I meant at game sixty three,
he should be doing that.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Hey, Bot Williams just started in something game because he
just stopped slandering this. This man just balled out had
a great football game.

Speaker 8 (34:41):
I'm just you guys are making fun of.

Speaker 9 (34:43):
I'm disappointed because I felt like after that Washington State
game he had one hundred and sixty three yards like
it was going to be his season and we just
didn't come to right.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
Well, he ended up how many yard one hundred and
sixty one, So he ended up breaking eight hundred and
ninety three yards.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
He just missed nine hundred yards.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
And he had what four touchdowns or three touchdowns today
and there so five No, I'm sorry, he had seven
on the year, seven touchdowns and eight hundred and ninety
whatever yards we talked about there, So I mean, hey,
I mean he turned out to be your best receiver
right when it was all said and done. When you
think about getting a guy from Michigan, just like the
Huskies just got a guy from Texas, right, you know,

(35:23):
obviously as a younger kind of guy, those same kind
of pedigree, though, you get guys from that type of
program and you expect some kind of success.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
All right, Nate is in Seattle. Nate, you're on with
Mario and Greg. How are you man? Go ahead, I'm good.
How you guys doing good? Good?

Speaker 6 (35:40):
Even though we lost today, today was a victory. We
needed to see demand play well going in the next year.
We have a lot of good pieces. The old line
and D line have to improve. It's absolutely ridiculous. They
looked atrocious at times this year. And no pass rush
what's today?

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Yep?

Speaker 6 (36:01):
Also red zone needs to improve. And there also needs
to not be games next year where we're saying, hey,
why is Jonah Coleman only getting twelve carries a game?
I think they need to balance the pass a lot
more with or balance the run and pass a lot more.
And also I've never seen a team lose so many

(36:23):
games where they outgain their opponent by one hundred yards
and that has to stop. So thanks for taking my
call off the air. Yeah, I'll take your comments off there.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
Yeah, appreciate the com I mean there's gonna be games
where Jonah Coleman doesn't get it twenty times, right, that's
just gonna happen. Your defense gets pushed around, or you
play a secondary like Louisville. That's not very good, and
you want to take advantage of that. So I do
generally agree that you want to get the guy the
ball more. But look, he ran for a thousand yards
right today they had a guy in Demon Williams who

(36:56):
looked like Peyton freaking Manning tossing the football down the field.
I'm almost more concerned about what's going to happen on
the defensive side of the ball when Steve Belichick takes
off and he's done. Obviously he's going to be the
coordinator of North Carolina, so we'll see how many guys
go with him in the end.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
But what do you make of what you heard from Nate?

Speaker 5 (37:12):
Well, first of all, that was a solid called Nate
guy who understands our standards are very low. Though it's
a guy who understands the game of football. And he
didn't call some crazy, you know, silly comments that we
hear all the time. Nates solid call you knows, Greig Lewis,
give me your props. I think what he said is true.
You do want your running back, though, to have consistently

(37:33):
you know, it doesn't have to be twenty But there
were too many games where like you said Mario Wooll
was thirteen and fourteen, get to that seventeen eighteen, nineteen carries,
and then maybe your second back has ten, eleven, twelve carries,
where overall the running game is being featured in with
the mom on your team, you know he's going to
have seven or eight carries. So there you have a
balanced running game with your pass game. I think that

(37:57):
is certainly a reasonable thing. And then our defense, Yeah,
what is it going to look like next year? Most
of your real experienced guys on that defense, they're all gone.

Speaker 8 (38:06):
Now.

Speaker 5 (38:06):
You had four guys that played a lot of Husky football,
even though they weren't all three and four year starters.
But you had Cam Fab, you had Vanoy I mean
void to new Fee, you had Boy yeah too, Patala
and Brunner. Those were the heart and soul of your defense.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
And they're gone. And they're all gone, Fab gone.

Speaker 5 (38:27):
Yeah, And so your defense is going to look completely
completely different next year. And so that is the side
of the ball that, let's face it, we did lean
on them quite a bit during this season at certain
points in times where our defense was playing a lot
better in our offense. So that's the part of the field.
That's the part of the team that's gonna have to
be rebuilt from scratch.

Speaker 4 (38:45):
Well, and look, they got to find some pass rushers, right,
they got to find some pass rushers.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
You said, Zach dr Fee was that I never said
that you did to man the beginning of the year,
something screaming about.

Speaker 4 (38:59):
At the beginning of the year, I was hopefully, Well
did he even make the trip. I'm not even sure
if he was out there today say, I don't think
he was even there. The legend of I yes week too,
so the legend the legend of nobody because he hasn't
done a damn thing yet for that. But they need
they need pass rushers, they need inaror lineman, they need
guard play. I mean, they they've gone out and they've

(39:21):
gotten two linemen obviously in the portal.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
They need more.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
They need guys.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
They got the linebacker from Wazoo coming in, they got
the defensive tackle from Utah coming in. So we'll see
what kind of impact these guys can make. But that
is I mean, it's it's pretty obvious, like.

Speaker 8 (39:34):
They need an animal and to outside we're not we're.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
Not debating what they need to improve on. It's the
line of damn shrimmage.

Speaker 9 (39:40):
Yeah, that's number one offense and defense. We need some
dogs out there. We need somebody to get some pressure.
I felt like our defense didn't show up today, maybe
because coach is gone, but our dbs, who've been our
best unit all year, they didn't play well. Our defensive front,
they didn't play well. Our defense just didn't show up today.
As far as Joan his carries, you have to understand

(40:02):
that going into next season, that Demon is gonna get
double figure carries almost every game. He's gonna get ten carries,
and he's gonna take away from Jonah. And Jonah probably
only got twenty carries one time this year. And I
keep telling you the freshman will be a sophomore yet
next year, and he's gonna take away from his carries.
So I don't see Jonah having the type of season
that he had this year next year.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
He got twenty carries twice, so close, but no cigar.

Speaker 4 (40:27):
I said twice, Yeah, you're the big winner, ding Ding,
But he had twenty three carries against usc which was
a career high in twenty one versus UCLA.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
Though, you got Demon Williams gonna carry the ball probably
ten times a game, like you said, and then Adam
Muhammad is going to be there, and then Coleman's. Coleman's
numbers may actually go down next season because of all
of that, but his efficiency may go up. And I'm
curious about where this defense goes because, hey, look, I
think overall, Steve Belichick did a pretty good job. But
Penn State they gave up thirty five, Oregon they gave

(41:01):
up forty nine, Louisville they gave up thirty five. I
mean three of the last four games the defense got
hammered by the opponent, absolutely hammered. So they need to
do better on that side of the ball. There's a
rumor they may hire this guy from Perdue, the old
Perdue head coach, to be their defensive coordinator. I just wonder, Greg,
how much better can this defense get in the next

(41:22):
nine months with the guys that are here now and
whatever damage you can do in the portal.

Speaker 8 (41:27):
Again, the portal is gonna tell the story.

Speaker 5 (41:29):
It really really matters and makes a big difference in today's,
you know, version of college football. Those guys got worn down.
I think they played decent in the first half of
the season, but you're upfront guys. I mean it was
a war of attrition. You saw defensive line guys you
know go down all the time. You know your Parkers
and then your Durfy who is in and out all

(41:50):
the time. The legend of is that, but it just
you know, continue and then look at Carson Brunner. I mean,
this guy played with one arm most of the season.
By the last three or four games against those monsters
at Penn State and Oregon, you got to know that
this guy's you know, going on fumes. He's playing hard
and he's doing you know, his best, but he's playing
on fumes. So we got to build the depth up

(42:11):
in those positions. And it doesn't help when you lose
somebody like Kamari House sure, your best returning linebacker. You know,
it would have been nice to have that kind of
sets you back a little bit, you know, from what
you're trying to build. But they have to spend the
money in the portal to get better in the defensive
and offensive front, and that's where you know, you gotta
hope that they can make a lot of progress. And

(42:32):
you know, with the new guy coming in, maybe he
could scheme it up a little bit. Now your secondary
is not going to be as good. I think you're
losing your top two corners as well, so you know,
there's a lot of things that you're gonna have to
replace on your.

Speaker 4 (42:44):
D price Ick can come back if you want. Statius Dixon,
there was yes, I think he's done. There was that
ruling about the junior college guy from uh what school
was it?

Speaker 3 (42:53):
You?

Speaker 4 (42:53):
No, it was the quarterback from Vanderbilt that's coming back
next year as possible. Statists put a tweet out today saying,
like last ride or whatever I saw going to come back.
He might who knows, but again, you know they can also,
you know, go go go raise a bunch of money
and then go shop and come April, right because there's
gonna be guys in the portal that will come out obviously,

(43:13):
and guys in the spring. So we'll see, all right.
Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey, Hey, good stuff. The season was
not what we wanted it to be on the field,
but not not unexpected either. The the off season is
gonna be just unbelievable. With the hype for DeMont Williams,
go hear his name a lot. Now it's time to
go out and get the guy as much help as

(43:34):
humanly possible. Jackson felt a good job. Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey,
love you guys. Another good year for the Husky Hanks.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
I mean it was just okay.

Speaker 4 (43:43):
We'll improve on it, all right, Well, we'll get together,
we'll have some meetings, do some training over the offseason,
and get these guys all coached up for next fall.

Speaker 3 (43:51):
So good stuff, Have a great New Year's Eve and
we'll talk soon. Go Dogs, Go Dogs.
