Speaker 1 (00:23):
Now the Husky Honks, Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey, and your
host Dave Suffie Muller.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
All right, well, it's been a couple of weeks since
the Husky Hawks get together, or got together after getting
annihilated by the Iowa Hawkeyes. I think all of us
just needed some time away from each other. Tensions were high,
tempers were flaring after the Iowa game. And now we
come back and Mario Bailey was sick. He got me sick.
I got sick, and now Greg Lewis is sick. Stop it, man,
(00:52):
I was six five weeks. All started with you, Dave,
and Dave gave it to me. I give it today.
Five weeks ago. We've been in a box together for
like the last six weeks. And I don't know, man,
everybody out there, stay away from Mario. Take you three
four weeks to get sick, do not incubation, Do not
approach the diseased.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Mario Hey, man, don't even put that stuff out. Stop it, man.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
We're gonna make a movie about this one day, The Carrier,
The Life and Times.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Of Mario Bailey.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
All right, well it's first of all, it's good to
see you guys, man. I mean, we took last week off.
We I think we had enough after the Iowa game.
I mean we needed a break, definitely, I think we did.
But did the team need a break?
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Right? Like?
Speaker 3 (01:46):
You guys have all played games like that where you
gotta sit around think about it for a while.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Was it a good time for the buy or a
bad time for the There's two schools of thoughts.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
Sometimes folks feel like you go out with a loss
and then you got to linger and think about it
for a couple of weeks, and you know that could
be bad for the morale. But I think in this
particular scenario, situation with the Dogs, with guys who are needed,
especially on the offensive and defensive lines, hopefully an opportunity
for some of them to get healthy, to get back
into the lineup, an opportunity for some guys who if
(02:18):
they're playing behind them, and they're thrust into duty, and
those guys aren't going to come back for them to
practice and get better, to work on some of those
fundamental things blocking, tackling, because that's really what hurt us
against Indiana. I'm sorry against Iowa our ability to block,
especially on the edges, and our ability to get off
blocks on the defensive line just inside the A gap
(02:39):
or outside the B gap. So I think this came
at the right time. It was a great opportunity for them,
especially because the trenches are thin right now. Guys got
to either get healthier, guys gotta get coached up.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Well, we know that Max McCree is probably not going
to play on Saturday, so the idea of getting both
your tackles healthy for this game at least probably not
going to happen. I actually ask Fish the other day,
both guys are healthy, who's better? And he said, well,
both guys aren't healthy, so forget it. We're not going
to talk about that right now. But what do you think, Mario,
Is it better to see these guys just get back
out there and flush that or just maybe marinate on
(03:11):
that for a little bit.
Speaker 6 (03:12):
No.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
I thought this was the perfect time you look at
some people's buys, they're early in the season or they're
late late in the seasons. Ours was like mid season,
and I think just because of the injuries that we
had that it's a great time. And I just think
we weren't running on all cylinders, like we were falling
down a little bit our first few games. Our first
six games, we were in every single game. In that
(03:33):
Iowa game, we just kind of fell apart. So I
thought it was a perfect time to get back to fundamentals,
get some guys healthy, and just regrouping for the last
half of the season.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Well, they gave away a lot of points in the
Iowa game, right because of the fourth down decisions. I
think you said the first one you were kind of
okay with because it was kind of no man's land.
But after that, man, you got to punt the ball away.
So the Huskies again have lost a game where they
have outgained the opponent and they just cannot somehow, some
way turn those yards into points. What do we hope
(04:02):
they were working on the last week and a half
to make that a reality starting Saturday.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
Well, you know, I've been a proponent of finding a
way to utilize the skill set of our freshman quarterback,
Demon Williams, and I think down inside the ten fifteen
yard line, you know, in positive yardage situations, are the
best opportunities to use his skill set.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
We can talk later more about this.
Speaker 6 (04:27):
But I think going forward it might even be deeper
than that, where I think Jed Fish is more comfortable
calling plays with a mobile quarterback. I think he feels
better when he has that type of player. And this year,
going into the season, knowing that offensive line defensive line,
we might not be prepared to win a conference championship.
I think we're going to start to see more demand
(04:48):
Williams because I think his ultimate goal is to really
get that kid ready. And next year is when he's
got it penciled in, where we have some time to
get some more recruits in offensive defensive line, in maybe
out a portal to really challenge. But I think hopefully
they've created some packages and some opportunities to utilize his
ability to run, creative and make plays to score more points.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Did you not say after the Iowa game, I did
you want to start this kid?
Speaker 4 (05:16):
I just say right now, but I say, if whatever
happens in Indiana the last four or five games, we
need to be thinking about starting it because I don't
agree with Greg that we have a package for him
in the red zone. I think if Will Rogers drives
the team all the way down to the twenty and
then you put the freshman in, that could lose confidence
in our guy and like, why are you doing that.
(05:37):
I do know that we have to come with some
type of different package on the red zone. I think
coach Fish has a very basic package. When we get
to the red zone. We're not switching the formations enough,
We're not doing anything that gets us an end zone.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
We're not coming away with points.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
So I just think that we cannot just put the
freshmen in at the red zone like four or five
games if we lose next one or two. Yes, he
needs to start, and we need to get him going.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
Well first, starting with the red zone. Mario, here's the thing.
We're not successful right now in the red zone, and
I don't think we've been leveraging demand Williams necessarily in
that red zone opportunity. So we haven't created a package
for him where Will gets this all the way down
there and he comes in. We've tried it here. You know,
a player two here or there. But I think you
got to do something different. And I think when I
(06:23):
go back and look at last year him at Arizona,
he's more comfortable calling plays when he has an athletic quarterback.
He has a quarterback that can run and scramble and
advantages in this day and age of football where you
have that running back in there alongside him. You got
ten guys now to block ten, So he's responsible to
outrun a guy or make a guy miss, and I
think he in that situation could be extremely successful. So
(06:47):
I get what you're saying about the you know, but
we got to try something different. You can't keep doing
the same things different results. Yeah, because that's insanity.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Well, you're talking about maybe changing up the scheme a
little bit, right, and you're talking about making it that.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Fits the player that we could bring him.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Talking about changing the scheme, that's not enough, adding a
different like taking a quarterback out, And I just think
we're not there because if we start doing that, then
we might as well give the kid the whole field,
not just the red zone.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Well, if you lose on Saturday and you're a Feurig
and four football team and you can still be a
bold team, though, if you can get a couple of wins,
USC is beatable. UCLA is beatable, right, no question about that.
Both those games are in Seattle. So I mean, guys,
I mean, I'm not saying that you're crazy, right or
wrong or whatever, but we're still talking about a guy
and Will Rogers who's number four of the Big Ten
and passing yards ty for sixth and touchdowns fifteen yards
(07:35):
per attempting fourth in completion percentage.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
In a lot of ways, this is not his.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Fault, absolutely not, And I'm not saying that it's the
quarterback's fault. So I don't want anyone to hear me
say that. What I'm saying is is I believe at
this juncture that the vision of where this team is
going to be successful isn't this year. It's not going
to be a playoff caliber team. And I fully believe
from what I've seen Jed Fish. You know, people have
(08:00):
questioned this play calling, right, I mean, there has been
no no and I think that's because I think he
doesn't like you can see it as recruiting. He like
he's more comfortable calling plays when you got an athletic
quarterback who can run So this has nothing to do
with Will Rogers.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
This is everything to do with the coach.
Speaker 6 (08:20):
Where we are in our evolution to an opportunity to
be successful and getting demand Williams.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Ready, I think the shift has to be to that. Now.
Speaker 6 (08:29):
You do want to get those other two wins, and
if Will Rogers can help you get that, you got
to continue to start him. But you're gonna start to
see more of the kid. This week we play in Indiana,
team who just put up fifty plus on.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Nebraska there number one of the scoring offense. Yeah, so
how's this going to go?
Speaker 6 (08:46):
And if it gets away from us, you start to
see more demand Williams. You're starting to see him get
more plays as we get down the road. Now, of
course we want to get those and coach wants to
get those two wins. You know why because then he
gets extra practices with the guys who are going to
be here for Nick year.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Well, a couple of things there, Husky Hawks again on
the air, reg Lewis, Mario Bailey Up until five o'clock,
brought to you by your friends at Frostbrewed cors Light,
Choose Chill Emeral, Queen Casino Souder metals and Zeke's pizza.
You're talking about an Indiana offense, Mario that's number one
in the country in scoring. But that's with Curtis Rourke
who broke his thumb and is not playing on Saturday.
(09:21):
It's Tavian Jackson, who's Ray Jackson's son, who played at Wazoo,
was on that ninety seventeam that won the Apple Cup
went to the Rose Ball. His kid is going to
probably start at quarterback for the Hoosiers. So all these
numbers I'm looking at for Indiana number three in passing efficiency,
number one in scoring offense, number twenty three in rushing offense,
number eleven in passing offense, tied for sixteenth, and sacks allowed.
(09:46):
Their number five and third down offense, and their fourth
down offense is well over fifty percent. All those are
with the other guy, though, who's not playing on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
So how good is this Indiana offense without the I
got no idea. Plus, they haven't played anybody, not at all.
That's the key.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
You don't know how good they can be if they
don't have their signal caller and the guy that's been
doing it all and you're averaging forty eight points a game.
One stat you didn't see that I looked at. They
were the best red zone offense in the nation as well.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
We talked about that. Yeah, and before you came on,
they are.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Touchdowns thirty seven of forty four eighty four percent. Michael
Pennix wasn't even seventy by the way. We thought he
was phenomenal. Yeah, Michael Pennix was a big play guy. So,
but I don't know what this young guy Jackson has.
But it's a lot different when you don't have your
guy and you've won seven straights, so you're gonna look
and we're gonna look to try and exploit him. And
(10:42):
I honestly, if the other guy was playing, if for
Roork was playing, I would think we were going to
go in there and lose. But I think you when
you lose your signal caller that had you had seven
to zero, I think we have a chance.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
I think our defense is good enough. It's a big loss,
no doubt.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
The quarterback's thrown for almost two thousand yards, and like
you said, he's super efficient the red zone.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
But I think some of it for this a scheme.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Their team has perfected the RPO, the run pass option.
They are the absolute best edit that I've ever seen,
and it goes from the quarterback to the running backs,
the receivers, and the offensive lineman because in an RPO,
what you see sometimes is lineman getting down the field,
you know, thinking it's going to be a run play,
and you're getting big plays called back. But these guys
(11:22):
are perfected that that type of offense. Now, Jackson has
only thrown eighteen passes, so there's a huge difference. He's
completed twelve of them. But they're running backs. If you
in totality are averaging about six yards of carry, it's
five point something and that's everybody, but the top running
backs are averaging even more than that. So what they
do is is similar to what I used to talk
(11:43):
about with our play action. It's the threat of the
RPO that keeps defenses on their heels. There was a
master at it, wait until the last minute to make
the pass and to get it out there where you're
thinking run, run, run, and then when you drop guys
out in the coverage to cover the pass, then they
got huge running lanes for the running back. So every
one of their running backs is playing well. So if
(12:04):
this kid can still master that technique of the run
pass option. Their offense is still going to be effective.
All right.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
I'm getting freaked out, all right because I'm looking at
Tavian Jackson was an original commit to Tennessee, right He
went to Tennessee and then transferred to Indiana for the
twenty two season. He was a top twenty quarterback in
the country coming out of high school. And now he's
going to start for the Hoosiers. So this guy might
be a stunt as well, just like the Curtis RTIs
is hard to stop because they execute it so well.
(12:31):
But these are the One thing that gives me a
lot of hope is I think Indiana's riding high right now.
There's a ton of hype around that football team. Game
day is going to be there. Sometimes that works against you.
You went to Utah seven years ago or eight years
ago when game day was there and they beat Utah.
They won, and Dante had that great punt return against
the Huts. This is the number sixteen excuse me sixteen
(12:52):
scoring defense in college football against the number one scoring offense,
and it's the number one pass defense in the country.
You's got the number one passing defense in the country
against the number eleven passing offense in college football. And
you guys told me a few weeks ago I challenged
you that you said that you thought this Husky defense
(13:15):
was better than they were a year ago. Now's their
chance to prove it. Because I've always said, in a
game like this, gave me the defense. Every single damn
time the defense wins games like this. The problem is
Indiana also has a great defense. So who's got the
advantage there in this game?
Speaker 6 (13:32):
Well, when I did make that comment, let me at least,
you know, put a disclaimer on it. The two best
defensive alignment on the team were not out.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (13:42):
I mean, they absolutely were not out, and so that
reflected big time on the last game where those two
guys being out made a.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Huge Jephen Durphy and Javon Parkers, okay, got it.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
So they ran the ball, and they ran the ball,
and they ran the ball, which by the way, inflated
our pass defense numbers because they didn't have to throw
the ball because they just read it down our throat.
I think right now that you'd have to give the
advantage in Indiana when you look at all of those
variables because they're playing at home, they're playing in the
confines of their stadium. I believe the passing offense numbers
(14:13):
will come down just because their quarterback's not there. So
if I'm the Husky defense, I'm going to play them
to stop the run. He's going to have to prove
to me that he can execute this RPO offense, you know,
as well as Rourke did, and make those last minute
decisions and get the ball out where he needs to
get in order for those guys to make big plays
in the past game. So I'm gonna play them run
(14:33):
heavy because that's really what they do because they have
the threat of the RPO like we have the threat
of the of the play action. A lot of teams
stay back and then they create these huge rushing lanes.
So I'm going to play them to run the football.
Mar The numbers said the Husky defense has real again. Yeah,
Are they telling the entire story?
Speaker 4 (14:52):
No, And I don't think numbers tell the entire story
on anything anymore like, but I do say that this
defense is definitely better than last year defense, no question,
even without the two defensive linemen. But we need We're
gonna have to get pressure and we're gonna have to
score on offense, and I'm not sure our offense is
up for that task. You know, you look at Will
rogers numbers and when you see him, you'll think, man,
(15:14):
he's doing great. And we probably lost one game at
the most. But Will Rogers doesn't come through in the
clutch when we need him to.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
He's not Williams.
Speaker 6 (15:22):
Ye.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
We're not like, oh, come on, he's not making the
plays in the red zone when we need him to.
And it's been in all the games that we've lost,
Will Rogers has not made the plays, whether it was
Washington State, Rutgers, or Iowa. I haven't seen him come
down with the big plays. If we're not gonna be
able to score on offense, Indiana's offense is going to
score no matter what. With the backup. The defense is
(15:45):
better than last year. But I think we won't. We'll
give n up giving up points that our offense is
going to have to score well.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
And part of the issue potentially with Will Rodgers in
the red zone is that he's getting taken off the field.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
I mean, he's not there for the entire drive.
Speaker 6 (15:59):
You can't he is not getting taken off the field
that much. In the red zone.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Even I can find out one one play taken off
the field is like, how would you feel if we
took you off towards the gold line for Beano or
j Berry?
Speaker 6 (16:14):
Dude, we did know, you know why because we ran
the option and Mark Brunell never ever pitched talk.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
And what's the difference off the field. It's a running
back versus a quarterback saying guys to push, guys need
he should be and then number two. I mean, look,
I'm not speaking from experience at that level, but I
would venture that Mario is right that if you're a quarterback,
(16:42):
you're in a rhythm and all of a sudden boom,
you're standing on the sideline.
Speaker 6 (16:45):
Have you ever watched the New Orleans Saints play football
and see them bring number seven in at quarterback and
how successful they've been at that over all the years
of his career.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Okay, let me ask you a question, was an athlete
is demand Williams after seven games? Taysom Hill, if.
Speaker 6 (17:01):
You give him all that package and you stay consistent
with it, you don't have guys jumping off sides and
created penalties to take away your big plays, I think
he can be The question.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Is going to become How much do we owe Will Rodgers?
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Like does coach Fish owe him the opportunity to finish
a few games?
Speaker 6 (17:20):
Or is this about our future? And and let I
think you get in the game. I think you start
Will Rodgers every game between now and the end of
the year. But progressively Dubob Williams gets more, more.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Reps he plays.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
If we're concerned with the future, why do we start
Will Rodgers the rest of the game. Why don't we
start the freshman? I don't understand that.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
So let's get a break. We'll have our Darwin's Dog
of the Game coming up. We'll have our injury report
brought to you by Zoom Care Opponent preview with Valentine
roofing all that, Greg and Mario Husky Hanks for a
couple more segments and give away a Zee's Pizza gift
card as well, before cracking hockey at five Right here
on ninety three three kJ RFM.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Now back to the cours Life Husky Honks on Tuesdays.

be on Saturday, I ask you the same question in
the pregame show and you give me a different answer,
like you're best true, Like you're both double different.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
By the way, I never go check. Never.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
I'm gonna write down who they are, and I'm gonna
force you to give the same name on Saturdays. Gives
two different people, so it's gonna be hard to keep
track of the We'll go with Greg first because he's
the sick one. Who will be the Darwin's Dog of
the game Saturday.
Speaker 6 (18:46):
Well, it's gonna have to be a defensive player and
a guy who impacts the run game and the pass game.
So I'm gonna go with cam Fab. If he's healthy,
he could be the Darwin's Dog at the Gamekay, Mario,
how about you?
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Since he's going defense, I'm gonna go off and I'm
gonna go with number five. I think it's about that
time again for him to go off. So I'm gonna
go with Giles Jacks.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Gyles Jackson, who was targeted like a million times in
the game against Iowa in Does anybody remember what I said?
Speaker 2 (19:13):
How about some freaking you know what? Screw you guys man.
All you do is prop up yourself, pump up yourself.
I told you they're gonna get this guy involved.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
And he didn't have the yards, but he had like
ninety five targets in the game on Saturday against Isolwan
whatever only one.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Yeah, I know. Well.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
I want you to hear this clip from Jetfish because
we've been wondering what kind of offense does Jetfish want
to run at Washington And listen to what he said
this week.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
He took this out.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
The key is for us to be able to run
the ball. We have to be able to run the ball.
That's that's how we're building this team. That's how we're
building Washington football for the years to come. Good run game,
great defense, take shots down the field on offense, and
be explosive and get wide receivers touchdowns. That's what we
believe in.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
That's who we are.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
So we need to run the football if we're going
to be successfu So.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
That wasn't an We have Jonah Coleman, we have to
take advantage of it. That is, we want to be
a run first team absolutely as long as I'm here.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Yep, Mario is giving a weird look. You're nodding an agreement.
Yes here.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
Here's why I believe that that fits into what college
football being a great run team is, and that's running
the red zone, which means you gotta have wet you.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Who can run?
Speaker 6 (20:25):
Who no, Because when you put that ball in there,
now the defensive end has got to make a decision.
Do I come down the line of scrimmage and tackle
the running back or do I stay wide and I
keep the quarterback in contained And now you get to
basically option off that guy all game long.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
And that's why he recruits mobile quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
All the guys he's recruited since he's been here, and
you saw the athletic quarterback he had in Arizona are
those athletic type of guys, and that is what spurs
college football strong run games. You want to have a
good running back like Jonah Coleman, of course, but you
want to have the option of pulling that ball out
of his belly and having that athletic quarterback enhance your
(21:03):
run game. And that's why I said he's not as
comfortable calling plays with Will Rogers because the only run
game options you really have is him dropping back and
handed the ball off. That's easier for college defenses to defend.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Right now, Well, I have to say I slightly agree
with Greg because I talked about it. Well, I'm wondering
why we run the option with Will when he never
keeps the ball. He's only going to hand it off,
So why would you run the option? But the other
thing I say the coach is okay, if you want
to run the ball. Jonah Coleman still does not get
the ball enough. We've never given it to him twenty times.
(21:37):
He's got ninety nine touches six eighty one, but we
haven't given him the ball. We haven't been intentional about
making sure he gets twenty touches a game. And I
don't like that because I think he's our best playmaker
on off.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Well, and Jed made it sound Monday like he's been
banged up and that we're going to see a different
version of him starting on this Saturday. Against Indiana, Because
you're right, he is tied for he at he's number
three in the Big Ten and rushing he's tenth and
touchdowns overall. As far as carries, though he's seventh overall,
like Jonah Coleman, seems to be a guy that should
(22:10):
have way more than ninety nine carries after a seven games.
Speaker 6 (22:13):
I think some of that those are byproduct of the offense.
If you're running a red zone offense, by default, the
running back is going to get more carries than he
is in a drop back passing offense. And that's the
skill set of will Rogers, the quarterback that we have.
He's a drop back passer, and so we've leveraged the
play action pass get his best drinks. And at the
end of the day, yes, you want to be a
(22:33):
running team, but what is what drives wins in college
football the quarterback play, And so you have to kind
of build an offense around what your quarterback does best.
So my thought is that what he's telling you is
that not only did I just recruit Demon Williams as
a quarterback who can run, but that's how I'm going
to recruit as a football coach here at Washington so
(22:55):
that we can have more of those run plays and
by default, when you're running, when you're running the red
zone or the RPOs instead of the play action pass,
the running backs that get more cares.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Well. Look, I mean, obviously you got to have that guy,
and I do agree that I think college football and
football in general is going towards a more dual threat
quarterback right at almost every level of football. And Will
Rogers is not that guy. The concern that I would
have for Will is that you got to pick and
choose your spots man. I mean, like we're not talking
about going to Penn State and saying, hey, kid take
(23:26):
over against Penn State in a white out, or you know,
going to Eugene in November to have his first start
against the Oregon Ducks. If you do something like that,
don't you need to find a soft landing for this kid?
He's eighteen years old, for crying out loud.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Yeah, you're going to have to come up with a
game plan and you're going to have to have some
type of soft landing. But like I said, my biggest
concern would be him running at eighteen years old out.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Here getting killed.
Speaker 6 (23:52):
There are very few soft landings on our schedule. By
the way, gentlemen, we go on the road three times
against right now, all three of those teams undefeated. They
might all still three be undefeated when we play them.
Well one of them is going to be because on
side exactly my point. And then you know we got
what USC after that did USC U c l A.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Here, Penn State, Oregon there right, So there aren't very
many soft landings.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
And if you go to him, let's say us C
U c l A right now, you if you go
to him to start, you've taken the hit the starting
quarterback out. So now he's going to have to start
against Pitt State right and against Oregon. So if you know,
you don't want to start him and then take him
back out and start the other guy. So that's making
a huge commitment. I wouldn't be comfortable with doing that.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
It is set up for him to start with U
C l A and then and it is set up
for him to say and then starting and you say,
you see, you see how that game goes, and you
figured out those last once you replace them, Mario, you
can't go back. That's that's okay. We we don't know
we started at U C l a and we see
how it go. I like that start spotting the season
(24:53):
for two reasons. Number one, it's the end of the
year and you might have six losses. Seven losses already,
we can see what the thing looks like.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Health.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
It's the exact opposite. There's also a bye after the
UC might mean never to hire you guys as head coach. Well,
I mean, like this text just came in that said
Fish will never do that. Because this whole deal is
to be the thirty third NFL team. He needs to
play Rogers and get him drafted. Do we agree to
know if that's the reason why he needs to ask
(25:20):
that question.
Speaker 6 (25:20):
I just think it's more about finishing this season with
as many wins as you can possibly get into that
bowl game and making sure you have those extra practices
to get demand. Now, come into the bowl game, I'm
sure Will Rogers is not going to play right most likely, Okay,
And so now Demond gets to start in a bowl
game against hopefully another you know, pretty good football program.
(25:41):
So it gives him that opportunity to get ready. But
I don't think you can. And it's just me thinking
about quarterback Psyche and and and all the players and
what they have to adjust and adapt to with the
different types because they're so different.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
You can't go to.
Speaker 6 (25:54):
Demand and then come back to will And I'm not
sure I feel comfortable sending Demond Williams in the Happy
Valley and into Eugene.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
That just seems like a bit much.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Well, and it's all about making you comfortable. So whatever
makes Greg comfortable is I'm just saying, as I'm putting
myself in the coaching But isn't there also like the
offensive line is going to change a lot next year, right,
Like there's a bunch of guys that are graduating, or
your center is going to be gone, Guard Memolar is
gonna be gone. Who knows what their offensive line situation
looks like a year from now, the running back situation,
guys are out of eligibility. For me, I still think
(26:24):
that this is a football team that could surprise somebody,
because again, the three games they've lost, they've outgained everybody.
They've lost the games because of two things, penalties and
red zone, and those things should be able to get
fixed this late in the year.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
You would hope.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
So.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
And like I said, we had to buy at the
perfect moment. We were falling apart a little bit and
not as focused, and we got to buy and we're
coming going into Indiana. But I'm gonna keep saying, like, man,
these next few games would decide that you can look
at the landscape of college football. Now you see a
seventeen year old out at Alabama. You see the freshman receiver.
I know it's a quarterback position, but I've liked him
(26:59):
on when he's got out there. If we were to
happen these two games, if we were happen to lose
these two games, it's what do you owe Will Rogers?
And what do you owe your team? Do you owe
your team to figure out a way to get back
on track. I just think if we if we were
to lose these next two games, I go with the
mom Williams la well.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
I think.
Speaker 6 (27:20):
I'm always going to go with the starting quarterback, Will
Rogers as that guy and Demond Williams as the guy
who comes off. I think you increase his time as
we go along, doesn't start. He's not the main person.
We increase his time as he goes along. But Saphie
is something you said a minute ago. I don't think
those are the only two reasons we've lost. I also
think our lack of depth and quality guys on the interior.
(27:42):
When we play a power offensive team. We can, we
can play around with the cute teams, but Oregon's and
Penn States and teams that like Iowa, who really run
the ball hard. I think we're not prepared right now
because of the short amount of time to build our
office defensivelon to win those football games.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
All right, So who did Greg pick is his dog
of the game on Saturday?
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Text in that name and zekes to four nine, four
to five one will pick someone for fifty bucks to
Zeke's Pizza homegrown in the PNW. Come back and wrap
up the Hawks before crack an avalanche at five Right

(28:52):
Drfe is going to be back for the game on Saturday.
Swane Fasolo is going to start at left tackle because
Max McCree is still like not ready to go. I
think they like McCree over for solo and both guys
are healthy, but not an issue now because Swan a
is going to play because McCree has the hand injury
and not not yet ready to go. I want to
(29:13):
check the text line just real quick here, uh, texts
coming in. I would take losses over the next three
games to beat Oregon in Eugene, says the three six zero.
You guys agree with that. That means no bowl game,
but a win over the Oregon Ducks on November thirtieth
in Eugene.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
I don't want to lose to UCLA at home too,
So no, actually you could go. You could go two
and three and go six and six and.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Make a Bowl again. Up one of those wins against Well,
here's taking that. I don't want those bastards to hear
us having this conversation. Okay, yeah, because we always make
fun of the Kougs for saying that a win over
Washington makes their season. Are we doing the same thing
now with Oregon.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
I'll take it.
Speaker 6 (29:52):
I'll take this if it guaranteed Oregon not going to
the playoffs or winning the National Championship, I take it.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
Yeah, because if they only lose to us, they're still
going to the play correct. They are still and they
might be better off losing the game. By the way,
they're going to the playoffs. I'm just saying that win.
Speaker 6 (30:07):
Somehow they lost another game and our beating them kept
them out of the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
I take that. I take that deal.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Well, I'll tell you what, man, they gotta worry about
Indiana first on Saturday. The Opponent Preview brought to you

Speaker 3 (30:27):
Just make sure one of them is Valentine Roofing called
two h six roofing for free estimates.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
So how do we feel about Saturday?
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Right?
Speaker 3 (30:34):
I mean, look, the Hoosiers are seven to zero there,
everybody's darling in college football. Their coach is going on
TV running his mouth, talking to everybody this week about
this game.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Game day is going to be there.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
They got the number one scoring offense in college football,
but they don't have their quarterback and here comes an angry,
pissed off Husky team. What's your confidence meter in Saturday's game?
Speaker 4 (30:55):
My confidence meter is not that high, but I'm glad
their quarterback's not playing. I think we struggled on the road.
We talked about it. Where we get a row victory
in the Big Ten This year is gonna be tough
going to Penn State and Oregon as well, But I
think we have a good enough defense and a good
enough offense that we can compete. Now, we're gonna have
to get some turnovers. Our defense hasn't done a great
(31:16):
job in getting turnovers, and we're gonna have to stop
the penalties.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
But I give us a chance.
Speaker 6 (31:21):
If we win this game, it's gonna be because of
Belichick his ability to scheme against this offense who does
not have their starting quarterback. All the numbers that they
put up, you guys talked about earlier in the show,
nineteen hundred and forty six passing yards were done by
their starting quarterback who's not going to play right now.
(31:42):
If we scheme in a way that we forced them
to throw the ball and see if this other guy
can do that, then I think that's the way we
can win. So my confidence meters five five and a
half because their starting quarterbacks not there. If he was playing,
it would be really really low.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
I just put it that way.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
But I think because of that, Belichick can have an
impact on this game by forcing him to throw the
ball and if he's not a depth at arepoing and
making those last second throws, and our secondary plays extremely well.
That's why I picked cam Fact to be my guy.
I think we can win this football.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Well, what's gonna drive me nuts is if the same
problems we saw for seven games or a problem against
Saturday red zone penalties and giving up big plays right
before the half, right, I mean in two games this year, Iowa,
Washington State, even Rutgers coming out of a timeout, the
defense gave up a big play, and you mentioned the takeaways. Man,
the Huskies are one hundred and six in the country
and turnovers gained. They have only forced six turnovers the
(32:35):
entire year.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Why is that.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
I just think we don't have like big time playmakers.
I talk about that. You'll hear me always talk about
playmakers on defense. I always thought Brunner was a playmaker.
We haven't had guys step up and when you're causing turnovers,
you're out there swarming to the ball. Everybody's going and
you're looking for that. We haven't started. We had it
comes in bunches usually. We just have never got any
(32:58):
anything started. To start with the bunches.
Speaker 6 (33:00):
We're playing teams who are decided to execute big ten football,
and they just run, run, run heavy against us because
we're not that stout up front. I think if teams
were throwing the ball more, we would have more turnovers
through interceptions. I just think teams have run the ball
against us, and we're not causing a ton of fumbles.
And so whether that's physicality or opportunity, you know, where
(33:22):
guys are holding dudes up and somebody stripping the ball.
But I think a lot of teams aren't throwing the
ball very much against US, and you get a lot
of interceptions because the tip passes and bad passes and
drop balls that kind of thing. So I think teams
just run heavy against US is limiting our turnovers.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
What time you guys typically wake up on a Saturday
if there's no football.
Speaker 6 (33:41):
Well, if I'm in Iowa getting ready for a pregame
show that starts at five am, the out the time
I wake up at three thirty in the morning, all right, Well.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
You better be up by six am because we're at
Due First Sports Bar in Rentin on Southeast one, twenty eighth.
Show starts at six o'clock in the morning. At Do First,
we'd be the only one. We will until eight thirty, Yes,
when they serve breakfast and the doors open up at
eight thirty for the public for breakfast. So Due First
Sports Bar kickoff at nine, doors open at eight thirty.
(34:10):
They'll have breakfast. The whole spiel. We'll see you guys
then good stuff, guys. All right, Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey,
Crack and Hockey coming next.
