but two Wildcats and his fourth touchdown catch in the
air was a beauty of.

Them all from Will Rogers. Forty six yards six.

Nothing Dogs.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Blows goes shotgun again, kam a lop down his left
hand five down on the line with a hand of
the turf of the husky, snapped back to pass at
the ten yard line. Buyers incomplete. Broken up on the
play by a linebacker. Brian Parham, the transfer from San
Jose State, came in and knocked the football.

won a win over the Northwestern Wildcats to move them
to three and one on the year. Dave Safti, Mohler,
Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey Husky Hawks on the air after
a twenty four to five victory over at Northwestern this afternoon. Mario,
do me a favor, open that door a little bit,

(01:46):
will you. It's kind of creates like there you go
much better, Thank you very much. Twenty four to five win.
Husky Talk post game brought to you by our friends
at your local Northwest Chevy Dealers and sponsored by Chevy Silverado.
Bring on the tough stuff because with nine trims and
four available engines, Chevy Silverado was ready to accept all challenges.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
Well.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
U DUB was ready to accept the challenge tonight from Northwestern,
and they answered the bell with a twenty four to
five victory, keeping Northwestern out of the end zone and
according to sports information director Extraordinary Jeff Beck told it
is the first time that U DUB has held a
conference opponent out of the end zone since the twenty

(02:25):
eighteen Pac Tworld Championship when they beat.

Speaker 6 (02:27):
Utah ten to three.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
Member Byron Murphy had that interception against Utah that day,
and the last time it happened at home against the
conference opponent was twenty seventeen thirty eight to three win
against the Oregon Ducks. Look, there's no question that this
Wildcat offense is challenged.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
For sure.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
They lost their best player and their running back. There's
not much there at wide receiver, and if we saw
what we all saw from the quarterback and their passing
game today. But good teams take care of bad teams,
and you took care of a bad team today.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah they did. And you know, they kept a home
win streak alive. You know, it's been a long time
since anybody's been able to come in here at the
Husky Stadium and get a win. But despite the fact
that we did get that win, and I'm excited about that.
What I'm a nitpick a little bit here. The reason
I'm gonna do that is is last week they lost
the football game because of sloppiness, the penalties, you know,

(03:24):
the snaps and that kind of thing. And so to me,
that means you had to come in today with a
concerted effort against a bad opponent, and although you might
not see be challenged a lot, get those things right,
cut down on the penalties, on the little mistakes, and
here again we saw that sloppiness. We saw those crucial
penalties at the wrong time against a good You talk

(03:45):
about a good football team take care of business, but
a good football team actually will be hard to beat
if we played that way.

Speaker 7 (03:51):
I think it was a disappointing, but it's a victory,
and I think this is the third game when which
the defense didn't allow a touchdown this year, so you
have something you can build on. But we still had
seven penalties. We didn't look good out there. We did
cost two turnovers, but we did turn the ball over.
But all in all, I just felt that it was
a little disappointing to come back. I thought to have

(04:12):
that adversity that we did, that we would come out
here polished and have a great game. But it just
seemed like an average game on a bad, bad opponent.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
The thing that is probably more visible is that defensively,
I think they did some really great things. There's at
least seven plays I can count inside of the five
yard line, where they did not give up a touchdown,
which is fantastic. I think the defense made some stride today.
They looked a little better on the pass rush. They
got some pressure here and there, and that was positive.

(04:43):
I think. Offensively, though, we did get the big play
to be in a game, scored in the first quarter
on a play action pass, which is our identity because
our first two toestdowns came on play acts. So we'll
put that to rest on who we are. But in
seriousness though, outside of that, we find little ways to
tamper and slow down ourselves with penalties, with drop snaps,

(05:04):
with you know things kind of being off a little
here and there, and so we just got to get
more continuity. I think now it's clear that it is
challenging to put together an offense with all these new players,
new lineman, new coaches and all of that. This is
going to be a growing process. But I tell you what,
this schedule gets exponentially tougher.

Speaker 6 (05:25):
Question.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
No, we're flying all the way across country YEP to
play a Rector's team that's their best at our time.
Then we got Michigan and then we got Iowa, and
so it gets a lot tougher from here. So I
think that's certainly, you know, things that we got to
think about. How do we prepare and get ready and
get those things out of the way, all right?

Speaker 6 (05:47):
Two things Number one, I changed my mind closed that
door over there. Thank you appreciate that.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
I think Jeff beck Told's getting some more accolades over there.
He deserves it again, three hundred games in a row
for jeft, a long time sid here at UW. But
he deserves everything coming way, including those cupcakes out there.
And I hope they save a couple of fronts, That's
what I'm saying. I hope they save some for us.
Who doesn't like cupcakes for I don't say. But I've
got a list here of the positives and the negatives
in the game today. Positives are on the top, or

(06:12):
excuse me, at the bottom. Negatives are on the top.
Because there's this motto that a lot of teams have
in college football, and there's a lot of cliches in
college football.

Speaker 6 (06:19):
I don't know if there's more cliches.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Now than when you guys played back in the day,
but the amount of cliches that people come with now,
you know, no time to sleep all about us.

Speaker 6 (06:30):
Blah blah blah. They drive me freaking crazy.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
Right, So if it really is all about Washington, and
don't worry about the opponent, just look at the way
you played, look at the way you executed. Did they
play well enough today to beat A Rutner's next Friday?
Did they play well enough today to beat a Michigan
in two weeks from now in this stadium? And the
answer for me for now is no, they did not.

(06:54):
Can they get better and get to that point where
they need to be? Absolutely, But for example, they went
from sixteen penalties to seven, which was a nice step
in the right direction. They did, though, have another roughing
the passer call on third and twenty one that kept
the drive going for Northwestern that never should have happened.
That was Brian Parham, who also, by the way, had

(07:16):
the pass breakup on fourth down here in the end zone,
so great play from him. They had Denzel boston Fair
catch a punt at the five yard line that two
plays later led to a grounding call by Will Rodgers.
Second week in a row he had a grounding call.
They gave up a ninety six yard kickoff return before

(07:37):
they had that stop there on fourth and goal from
the one yard line. Their offense only had seven points
in the second half, and for the second consecutive week,
they really kind of had a hard time getting Jonah
Coleman going right. Fourteen carries for seventy five yards a
week ago and fifteen for sixty seven today. Positives are
you keep them out of the end zone. Positives are

(07:57):
you had a couple of interceptions? Positive? Denzel Boston went
seven for a buck twenty one and now we's got
five touchdowns. Positives are Will Rodgers after four games has
still yet to throw an interception. So is our glass
half empty? Is our glass half full? Do we not
really know so far after four games? Where's our mindset

(08:18):
as Husky fans right now?

Speaker 7 (08:19):
Guys, we don't know, But we can look at last
week's game. I guess Washington State has been the toughest
opponent that we've played, and we had the sixteen penalties
and we didn't play our best game. I haven't seen
us play our best game. I don't think we know
what type of football team we are as of yet,
but it's gonna be fun to go on the road
in the Big Ten and play at Rutgers on Friday

(08:40):
Night football. But I just haven't seen this team play
consistently on offense at all this year.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Mario, you said a lot there, maybe what even knowing
exactly how much you said, you made a statement that
we don't know what we are yet. Well, it's going
into our fifth game, right, and the fact that we
don't that says a lot to me. And what I
mean when I say that is we haven't put together
enough good plays in a row against a quality opponent

(09:07):
to say that we're where we want to be. Now, Softy,
you're right, we do have a chance to get better.
But guess what, we got a short week this week. Now,
we're gonna be playing on Friday, and one of those
days we're gonna be flying across the country and we're
gonna lose three or jump ahead three hours and less
of preparation to get ready for that opponent. And it's
a pretty good opponent. And like I said, it just

(09:28):
gets harder and harder from here. And whether you know,
we have a running back who can run, we have
receivers who make good catches, all of those things, but
we hurt ourselves with bobbling a snap from under center
a couple of times, a couple of times, and we've
done it before. We also have poty and seven piloty. Yeah,

(09:49):
we reduced it in more than half, but seven is
still way too many, especially those crucial penalties. So to me,
I'll say from that standpoint, my bottle of water here
I'm looking at is half empty because I haven't seen
us play well enough over an extended period of time
against the quality opponent to say that we're ready in

(10:09):
the conference like the B ten to be extremely successful.
So hopefully some of those teams are experiencing some of
the same things we are. But I'm just looking at
it right now. I don't want to be overly because
we're three and one and we have a chance to
be four and one and those games are winnable, but
we gotta play better than this. Northwestern is going to
be at the bottom. They're worst football team I've seen.

(10:31):
They were we were stayed in Northern Illinois might be
as good or better than these guys. I saw them
drop passes, I've seen the miss reads, I saw the mistackle.
I mean, at one point I thought they were wide
receivers and they're tight end. We're defensive backs as much
as we were, So I don't know.

Speaker 6 (10:50):
Yeah, no, you're right. They had a lot of drops today.

Speaker 5 (10:52):
I mean the the interception by Kamori House was caused
because Calvin Johnson the third which is no relation to
the actual Johnson by the way, thank god, because that
guy would disown him after that. Had a ball just
bounce off his chest. I mean it, he was put
in the right spot. You had two players on the
first two plays of the game, a kickoff return and
an offensive play on first down that you know, two

(11:13):
guys slip right and just could not turn the corner.

Speaker 6 (11:16):
So I don't ember drops all over the place by that.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
That's a bad team. I mean, can we can argue
in the end is that UCLA is at Northwestern. I mean,
UCLA at least hung in there against LSU today. They
got blown out in the second half by the Tigers.
But I generally would agree that we may have just
seen the worst team in the Big Ten today come
through you, dub I do think this.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
I think what I'm looking.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
For starting this Friday, and I was hoping to see
it starting today is some stars to emerge on the
line of scrimmage. And I haven't seen that in four games.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
Last year.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
You had Fatano who's in the NFL. You had Rosengartens
in the NFL. Parker Brilsford became a preseason All American
when he transferred to go play for Alabama. You had
Bradlin Trice who was a star in college, as etf
who is a star in college. And they just don't
have those guys yet on the line of scrimmage. And
I guess that's what concerns me that when they play

(12:12):
in Iowa, when they play in Michigan, hell, when they
play even a USC or in Oregon, do they have
the horses up front to compete physically with the best
of the best of the Big ten?

Speaker 8 (12:23):
So far, I.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
Would say the answer today is no. But good thing
it's today and not November.

Speaker 7 (12:28):
I don't know how you can tell that as of
right now, because if you look at the stats, you
look at Will Rogers, he's completing at least sixty five
percent of his passes, he hasn't thrown an interception, and
when you look at Jonah, he's havaging probably five or
six yards of carry. We just haven't had a game
where you could actually see if the offensive line is
doing their job because our offense has been consistent for

(12:51):
the most part.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
Well, I would disagree from this dam of course you are. Well.
I'm just saying no, no, in all seriousness, the quality of
opponent that I'm seeing us go up against says to
me that we should be averaging seven and a half
yards of kirie or we should be able to have
drives where we marched the ball all the way down
the field. And again, it's not all about their skill

(13:14):
or their ability. It's about us with the self inflicted wounds.
It's our discipline, it's our focus, it's our preparation. It
may not it may be Mario, I'll give you, you know, creditness.
They might be good enough physically or whatever, but we're
not good enough as far as the overcoming those obstacles
that we put in front of ourselves. If you play

(13:35):
a good football team and you have nine penalties ten
last week, I don't know if we played a good
football team. They almost lost to San Jose State last night,
and the penalties are what caused us to lose. So
I don't think we're good enough in those positions to
overcome these things that we're doing well.

Speaker 5 (13:51):
I mean we saw a quarterback who was under some
duress today, right. I mean, the defensive line for Northwestern
had some opportunities to get home on Will Rogers, and.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
Those guys ain't the guys. And we're gonna see Michigan,
no question.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
But I also would say this that Maximus McCree for me,
was pretty good starting at left tackle for Swane today.
He got banged up and they had to bring in
Fa solo at some point. Maybe he was like an
emergency situation where only he could play if he had
to for a spell. As a party has been okay
over at right tackle. D'Angelo Titiali has been okay at center.

(14:26):
They're still trying to figure out again, you know, their
right guard situation, whether it's Enoch or or Landed and
guard Memblar seems to be pretty solid right now at
left guard. But I I mean again, I don't know
if I see those pro caliber players there yet on
the offensive line. Maybe Swane becomes that guy. He's only
a red shirt freshman, for God's sakes. But time's gonna tell,

(14:47):
and we're not really gonna get a chance to know.
Maybe we'll start to know this Friday, because Rutgers brings
back a lot of guys on defense from last year's team,
and we definitely will get a chance to know in
two weeks from now when the Michigan wolver Rines come
to town. I mean, obviously there still is a little
bit of sting for me from last week's Apple Cup. Okay,
every season, as you go along, has their signature moments,

(15:11):
and this signature moment so far of this Husky Football
season has been the fourth down play last week versus Wazoo.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
That's it.

Speaker 6 (15:18):
Now that can change.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
They go on the road, they get a big win,
they come on four and one. This place is crazy
for Michigan. In two weeks from now, they're gonna go
for their eighteenth consecutive win, which will be a modern
day record at Husky Stadium if they can pull that off. Guys,
this program, and I realize a lot of this was
with Kaitlin, but they're twenty eight and four in their
last thirty two games. There's just not a lot of

(15:39):
thirty two game runs in my lifetime where U Dubs
won twenty eight to thirty two. Man, So this is
becoming habit for Washington, But is it becoming habit for
this particular roster and this particular version of this football team.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
We won't know. We don't know yet, we won't know.

Speaker 7 (15:55):
No, we have these two weeks Friday Friday Night and
then he against Michigan. We'll find out a lot about
this program and with what this season is gonna look like.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
Yeah, I'm just kind of you know, I'm a Husky Hawk,
you guys, so our job is to be honest at
all that. But we're all Husky fans, so I don't
want to be hyper critical here. Today we got the win.
We shut out another opponent and kept them out of
the end zone. There are some good, you know, qualities
that this football team has, and maybe we don't know,

(16:26):
and maybe I'm being, you know, too critical and the
things that I see that we aren't doing well. But
I want this football team to be a good football team.
I understood coming into this year that things were gonna
be a little different. My expectations, just like everybody else's,
are based off of the last two seasons. So when
I look at them, I don't see some of the

(16:46):
things that we've been capable and able to do. So
I might be coming down a little, but I'll say this,
I have concerns that we're not good enough to overcome
the negative things that we're creating. And fortunately for us,
you know, we had another opponent today that we were
good enough to do that with them. But I understand

(17:07):
that the schedule is gonna get a lot tougher and
we we can't. We got to We're going to ruggers
got to be five penals or less, right, and most
of them can't be of the ten to fifteen yard variety.
We can't have any fumble snaps and we pass Russ
has got to be there. But we also got to
get better and this is the coaches and the players
inside the red zone. We can't keep coming away with

(17:28):
three points when there's an opportunity to get seven. That
area of the field. We gotta get better at. We
gotta score touchdowns and not just be relying on the
foot of Grady grows.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
Well twelve drives today for a Northwestern, eight punts, two picks,
a field goal, a turnover on downs on the fourth down.

Speaker 6 (17:48):
Stop here, you're the end zone.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
I mean, it was a horrible game for the Northwestern offense,
and it was a great day for the Hosky defense
and keeping mind Mickelsteen was out today, Zach Durfie was
out today.

Speaker 6 (17:58):
They're missing some key pieces for from their d.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
So look, I mean, Mario, I don't have any problem
sitting here and just saying I don't know, right, There's
nothing wrong in this business with saying I don't know.
I think a lot of people in this business they
want to have a take. They want to have a
direct answer, either yeah or nay, good or bad, whatever,
left or right, up or down.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
I don't know, man, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
I mean I could see a young offensive and defensive
line going on the road and struggling with a veteran
defensive and offensive line, which is what you're gonna see
Friday night at Rutgers. I can see them struggling with
a veteran offensive and defensive line when the Michigan Wolverines
come to town. How much can they grow in the

(18:40):
next five days? How much can they grow in the
next thirteen days before the Michigan game in a couple
of weeks from now.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
So here's what we'll do.

Huskies come away with their second interception of the season
and there will be no touchdowns for Northwestern in the
first half tonight.

Speaker 5 (26:58):
A Jack Laushot a big day running the ball a
week ago and not gonna happen today. Only thirteen carries
for twenty one yards against the Husky defense and then
through two interceptions, one to Carson Brunner at the end
of the first half from the one that bounced off
the chest of a wide receiver into the hands of
Camari House and the Huskies win today twenty four to
five over Northwestern.

Speaker 6 (27:18):

Day?

Speaker 12 (27:57):
I'm great, guys, how are you doing good?

Speaker 4 (28:00):
Talk to us?

Speaker 6 (28:02):
All righty?

Speaker 17 (28:03):
My question kind of revolves around the offense.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
Is the line or the play calling a bigger problem?

Speaker 4 (28:10):
Are either of them a problem?

Speaker 17 (28:12):
I mean from what i've they are and have I
just been spoiled the past.

Speaker 18 (28:17):
Couple of years with what we've seen.

Speaker 19 (28:20):
I just want to hear you guys take on that.

Speaker 4 (28:22):
Go dogs.

Speaker 6 (28:22):
God, I appreciate it.

Speaker 11 (28:23):
Man.

Speaker 7 (28:23):
That's a great question, and that's something I wanted to cover. Actually,
I think we are a little spoiled. Coach Grubb did
a great job of getting all the playmakers the ball.
Like if you look at today's game, Giles Jackson caught
the ball three times I don't know, sixteen seventeen yards
and two of those were screen passes in the last
four minutes of the game. I don't think we do

(28:44):
a great job of being trying to get to our
playmakers the ball consistently during the game. Being intentional is
what I was looking for. We're not getting our playmakers
the ball. There's no way Giles Jackson should only get
three catches after what he did last weekend. Then Boston
had a great game. Jeremiah Hunter's still getting a few catches,

(29:04):
and we have Jonah and he's still at fourteen fifteen
carries a game and maybe three catches. But I think
we could do a better job at game planning. But
you're right, we are spoiled with what coach Grubb has
done for our team in the last few seasons.

Speaker 5 (29:17):
Well, let me just ask you guys this, because isn't
that a mark of a good team where every single
week there's a different player that leads them in a
certain category. Last week was Jiles Jackson having the big
day against Wazoo.

Speaker 6 (29:28):
Today was Denizel Boston.

Speaker 7 (29:29):
Well, no, come, sorry, Greg, No, I don't think so.
I think if you have a Roma Dunes that you've
seen him every week, or Jayalen McMillan you've seen him
every week, I think you can have consistency with those guys.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
Sorry about that tea you like Shack said on the
NBA it goes one two, not one back. All right, No,
I think here's here's my point, Softie. It's okay that
there's a different guy leading each week, but it shouldn't
be one guy has won sixty seven and the other
guy has ten. It should be a little more balanced.
I get one hundred and sixty seven one week, maybe

(30:02):
I got seventy five. The next week, maybe I got
you know, eighty two. I think what Mario's saying, and
I don't want to speak for you because you do
a good enough job yourself. But it shouldn't just be
one guy only getting the ball that week and then
the next week a different Maybe it's a different guy,
but he's the only one. It should be that everybody
is getting an opportunity to make plays. I think, you know,

(30:23):
execution is a big part of it.

Speaker 6 (30:25):
I think the more.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
Serious thing that they need to work on, or need
to understand, is play calling and execution in the red zone.
I think those are critical moments and critical decisions that
need to be made by the coaches. And you know,
Mario talked about this last week. Guys gotta want to
get in the end zone. You gotta want to make
that great catch, you know down there, you want to

(30:47):
make a guy miss, You want to break a tackle,
even when you don't have the exact blocking you want.
And then from his comment to the offensive line, I
think we're seeing the difference between a top in the
country offensive line and a group of guys who are rebuilding,
haven't played together. They still got to get on the
same page. It's not just about their physical ability, it's
about their ability to play together and play well. We've

(31:10):
seen some drop.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
Off from that well It's interesting because we go back
to the glass half fall analogy. Are you more impressed
by the dime that Will Rogers dropped into Denzel Boston
on the closed dend between two defenders, or more irritated
about the touchdown he missed to Jeremiah Hunter when he
was wide open in the back of.

Speaker 6 (31:29):
The end zone. More I'm positive and mister negative over.

Speaker 7 (31:33):
I'm mister negative because I'm more irritated because that's for
Jeremiah Hunter. I think you got to hit that one,
and I think the one to Denzel, I think that's
just a shot that you have to hit.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
Here's the thing for me, I'm not looking at one
and then the other in trying to judge which one
I'm more impressed or upset about. I'm looking for the consistency.
To me, that word consistency is more important than him
making a great play over here or a terrible one
over there. Be consistent, you know, do those things right
when the guys open hit him. You know, when a
guy is covered, have that synergy with him where Rome

(32:06):
and Michael throw automatically go to the back shoulder fade
even though he's covered, and we still can create some
positive plays. So I think Will is doing a good job.
His numbers say he is. I still want to see
the consistency though, and especially when again, those red zones
sometimes in more important than some of those other plays,

(32:27):
because that's where you feel like you got to get
some points.

Speaker 6 (32:29):
Well.

Speaker 5 (32:29):
The red zone defense, especially inside the five yard line
by the Husky defense today was marvelous. I mean, Northwestern
gets down to the four yard line after a fifteen
yard run first and goal from the four, and they
walk away with nothing. They get a ninety six yard
kickoff return to the one yard line four consecutive plays
and they walk away with nothing.

Speaker 6 (32:49):
I mean that is eight plays inside.

Speaker 5 (32:51):
The four yard line for Northwestern that yielded zero points
for them, excuse me, three points because they setup for
the field goal. I was stunned that they took that
field goal there. I mean, just over five minutes to
go in what the third quarter, you're down seventeen to two.
You've got four plays to jam it in from the
four yard line to get your touchdown to make it

(33:12):
a one score game, and they take the three.

Speaker 4 (33:16):
So if their coach knows more than we do, he've
seen them in practice and that situation down here where
they went for it four times and didn't get in.
He's seen that probably enough times you practice to know, ye,
we better take the field goal here. And that's why
he did it because this other example of it four plays.
Matter of fact, it might have been five if you
count the piblody on first down. I think because they

(33:37):
got it was first and goal in the two. Then
it was offside there there was a holding penalty on
Dickon and that was first and goal on the one,
and so they had five plays in and three the
other time. So he probably knew better than we did that. Yeah,
my guys aren't very good.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
So you think that the five plays that we saw
run down here showed us how futrid they are at
the goal coach, and that justified them just saying we
can't do this because you know how awful we are. Well, okay,
then if that's the case, then how impressed should we be?
How impressed should we be by what you dubbed did tonight?
If you're telling me that the coach, the coach has

(34:12):
no faith in his own offense right from the goal line, right.

Speaker 6 (34:16):
Then that would limit the obvious you know, magnitude.

Speaker 7 (34:20):
No, it told me that coach knew that this game
was over. You have to go for that. You're down
seventeen to two, there's maybe six seven eight minutes left.

Speaker 6 (34:29):
I agree with you.

Speaker 7 (34:30):
You have to go for that and show your team
that you're trying to win, because you could even go
it would be a one score game.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
If you score a touchdown. I agree, and I would
go for an all day every day. My point is
is that they're not a good football team. And I'm
not saying what their coach did was right. It's tongue
in cheek out them being funny and any coach trying
to win a football we even do that. But they're
a bad football team. They are just not good. And
again that's why it's offty. I think I started off

(34:58):
this seage saying I don't want to be overly critical,
but my enthusiasm is tempered. Guy. Yeah, today, I think
it's fair. I am glass. If you want to count
that as glass half empty, you can, But I am
certainly not sitting here thinking that, yeah, we've shown today
gives me any confidence going in against a really good team.

(35:19):
Colorado has just won.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
Baylor fumbled at the goal line, the fans are rushing
the field by the way, and in in Boulder there
was a review. I think the fans are already on
the field, so if they if they overturn this, they're
gonna have to get these kids off the field. So
big win for Dion Sanders and Colorado as they go
to three and one, and I'm sure that they'll tell
nobody about it after winning the game today against Baylor,

(35:44):
We're gonna break come back with more on the Husky Hanks,

join us at Moss Bay Hall and Kirkland Friday for
UB and Rutgers. Colorado official has won in overtime. They

(44:22):
get a last second touchdown forty three yards on a
hail Mary. Baylor gives up the bomb and then they
get beat in overtime because they give him a touchdown
and then fumble the goal line on their offensive possession.
Just a complete choke job meltdown by the Baylor Bears
and Dave Veranda or Dave Randa sorry in Colorado against
the Buffaloes and then the fans storm the field. We

(44:45):
saw that last night when the Cougar fans storm the
field against San Jose State, and we saw it tonight
where Colorado stormed the field against a two to one,
previously now two and two Baylor football team. And you
know what I say, I say, just let the kids
go nuts. Whatever, whether it's a three win football team,
ten win football team. I know when football team storming
the field, there used to be some selection to that,

(45:08):
you know, the big, big wins. And now you're doing
it against teams that are under five hundred, You're doing
it against teams that have two wins on the year.
Let's just peel off the band aid and say that
hell would it?

Speaker 4 (45:18):
You win a game?

Speaker 6 (45:19):
Storm the field, done, end the story.

Speaker 4 (45:21):
That's what college is all about. Having fun.

Speaker 7 (45:23):
So I could see somebody like in Washington state and
pull them in doing it every game. If they feel
that that's every game you need to do, right, then
do it. Colorado definitely deserve to do this one. After
this game was over, Baylor choked this one off. They
gave it to Colorado.

Speaker 4 (45:36):
One thing I will say this kind of goes along
the lines of all the excitement that Dion Sanders brings
to college football. Whether his team is good or not good,
which they haven't been the last couple of years, he
brings excitement. He gets people fired up. You know, he's
one of those polarizing guys. Or love him or hate him.
You want to be there either to cheerman and go

(45:57):
crazy with his kids like that, or to say I
was when he got put down or whatever Dion I
think is good.

Speaker 6 (46:04):
For college football.

Speaker 4 (46:04):
I totally agree that brings so much excitement to.

Speaker 6 (46:07):
Good Well you mentioned the words for Colorado. He's polarized, yeh.

Speaker 5 (46:10):
Whether you like him or or or or hate him,
and there's a lot of people that hate him and
a lot of people that love either way. We're talking
about him, right I mean, whether good or bad, we're
talking about him.

Speaker 4 (46:21):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (46:21):
There is no bigger figure right now in Cowvich football.
Than Deon Sanders, and it's not even close, Like I
honestly wouldn't even know who's number two.

Speaker 4 (46:30):
Well, think about this, who is number two? Think about this?
When he was coaching at Jackson State and in Colorado
last year when they weren't very good. They have these
this series of commercials with two football coaches, Nick Saban,
who's been the greatest coach in all of college football,
maybe of all time, and Deon Sanders. They have him

(46:50):
right there with So he is the biggest thing. I'm
just saying, you talk about being the biggest thing, there's
no coach that's bigger than Nick Saban in that sense.
But Deon's right.

Speaker 5 (47:01):
Well, what was big tonight was the Husky defense keeping
Northwestern out of the end zone. The Wildcats today had
twelve drives, eight of them ended in punts, two of
them ended in a pick, one of them ended on
a turnover on downs on the goal line. The other
one was a field goal. So great job by the
ub defense. Couple of interceptions by Carson Bruner and Camori House,

(47:23):
and the Huskies are now three and one with a win.
Excuse me a game with Rutgers coming up on Friday.
All right here he is. Let's sort of the phone
lines John and Portland. John, you're on kJ R. How
are you man?

Speaker 26 (47:36):
Hey, this is gone, John Gone.

Speaker 5 (47:39):
John is back making his gone, making his twenty twenty
four debut.

Speaker 4 (47:45):
Of course we remember you. Gone.

Speaker 5 (47:47):
John is back and he gone, and he's with us
on the air right now, John, what do you got?

Speaker 1 (47:53):
No, I'm not gone.

Speaker 4 (47:57):
I'll tell you what. I'm a little worried.

Speaker 26 (48:04):
About the feature of Hussey football.

Speaker 6 (48:08):
Okay, tell us why.

Speaker 26 (48:13):
Because today was a great win. But I don't know
if if we're going to be able to pete with
the Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State. And I wish we're

(48:33):
back in the PAC twelve or PAC ten and be
on top. But I don't think we could be on top.
There's something weird going on and I just don't know
what it is. But I don't think that we're going
to be able to compete with these guys.

Speaker 5 (48:51):
John, I know exactly the problem. You know what the
problem is, John, I'll tell you what the problem is.
The problem is is that you're gone. There's the problem. Wait,
way gone, John, John, You are so gone it's not
even funny. So we'll talk soon. I appreciate the call,
but John is so gone. Man is a kite. I
don't know what he's been doing down there in Portland.

(49:12):
He's been hitting the Ritz crackers. Man, he had gone gone, y'all.

Speaker 4 (49:17):
Yeah, here's the thing. Are they ready to compete with
those teams right now? Maybe not? But let's face it,
fifty three new players, entirely new coaching staff, having to
put your offensive line together between the end of springs
ball and now still filling gaps and guys with limited
snaps and all of that stuff. So I mean, if

(49:37):
you want to say, are we ready to compete with
the best teams in the conference that we just joined
right now? Maybe not. But I wouldn't say I'm worried
about the future of Huskey football. What I know about
this football program is that we've been able to be
successful at some point in time, regardless of whether it
was a Pack eight, the Pac ten, the Pac twelve.
We've competed on national stage. We've won a national championship.

(50:00):
We probably had a chance to win two or three
others throughout the history of our program. This program is
going to be fine. I think we have a good coach.
I think we're still getting adjusted and adapted, and we're
building our program back up. You know, we're playing with
limited resources as compared to some of the other teams
with the amount of money they can spend. But we

(50:20):
will write all that. I think the future will be
just fine.

Speaker 7 (50:24):
I wonder if anybody thought two years ago, two seasons ago,
coach to Boris first year and we went down to
UCLA and we lost that game. I don't think we
thought we would only lose one more game or bet
the next sixteen games. When sixteen out of seventeen games.
I don't know about this team. I don't know if
they'll show up when the big game comes. I don't think.

(50:46):
I don't think they thought Washington State was a good team.
I don't think we got up for that game. We're
gonna get up for Michigan. We're gonna get up to
go down on Friday night to Rutgers. So we don't know.

Speaker 5 (50:57):
Yeah, I guess I would just say it this way
that nobody here can be surprised if Washington has times
this year where they struggle with a veteran established program
like a Michigan or like an Iowa, Oregon, USC, Penn State.
Whatever you got fifty one new guys. Right, there's gonna
be a moment in time this year where Washington looks

(51:19):
like a team with fifty one new guys, because that's
what they are, and they may have looked like that
a week ago.

Speaker 4 (51:25):
Right.

Speaker 6 (51:26):
Does a team that's played two years.

Speaker 5 (51:28):
Together have sixteen flags like they did a week ago
against Washington State?

Speaker 4 (51:33):
Probably not.

Speaker 5 (51:34):
Does a team that's played together struggle offensively in the
second half against a not very good football team like Northwestern?
Probably not. So they have showed us exactly what we
thought they were going to be, which is a work
in progress. That's exactly what this football team has been.
The question is how fast can Jedfish and company expedite

(51:56):
the process? And I don't know if we're even in
a position yet you know the answer to that question.
We'll get a break, we'll check some scores, we'll wrap
it up. Final thoughts from the Husky Hawnks twenty four
to five win over Northwestern. We'll end it with the

Husky's trying to get to three and one on the
year and win their first ever Big Ten Conference game
the twenty four to five With nine and a half
minutes to go, Snap goes to Laos. She drops back
to the forty yard line, steps up, zooms it down
the field, picked off by Kamori House. It bounced off
a Northwestern receiver. House has it across the forty five,
gets a block at the fifty yard line in House

(59:44):
in the Northwestern territory at the forty seven yard line.
Calvin Johnson the second had it bounced right off the
number seven and Kamory house. Was Kamori on the spot
to come up with this first interception.

Speaker 5 (59:57):
I just imagine being a Northwestern fan and with they're
saying on their postgame show right now, right, I mean,
do you even bother to do a postgame show if
you're a Northwestern Wildcat?

Speaker 6 (01:00:06):
Honk after what you saw?

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
You cut it real short, good lord man.

Speaker 5 (01:00:10):
A couple of minutes, according to Jeff Beck told them
the Huskies pr staff today, Huskies gave up one hundred
and twelve yards of total offense today, the lowest opponent
total since they gave up ninety three to Cow in
a twenty seventeen win at Berkeley. In that game, one
hundred and thirty three on the ground and minus excuse me,

(01:00:30):
a hundred and thirty three in the air and minus
forty on the ground in that game because sacks come
off rushing yards in college football, as.

Speaker 6 (01:00:37):
You guys know.

Speaker 5 (01:00:38):
So great performance by the Huskies. I mean, look, you know,
you face a bad offense without their star running back,
and you do what you do tonight. That's what you're
supposed to do. But how much do we learn? Come
back after Friday and we'll talk about it then.

Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
Yeah, I think this week again. Now you're preparing in
a short week to go all the way out and
play a decent football team, and we'll know a little more.
I think defensively, these guys are on the right track.
They're doing some really good things, and you hold eight
plays whatever however you count it. I think offensively, though,
you gotta stop making the mistakes. You gotta get out
of your own way. You gotta stop with the fumbles,

(01:01:12):
fumble snaps, you gotta stop with the penalties, and you
gotta be more productive in the red zone. You're gonna
be in a hostile crowd for the first time this year, right, yep.
What can you do on the road? What focus can
you get these guys really lean into and getting prepared?
And again I think Mario put it will. How do
you get the ball to all your weapons so that

(01:01:33):
everybody has an opportunity to miss plays and not just
focus on one guy. We got fifty bucks to Zeke Smich.

Speaker 5 (01:01:38):
You want to grab a winner off the text line,
Just send in your name and your email and Mitchell
will grab a winner for fifty dollars to Zeke's pizza.
I would just take the first one in Mitch or
the second one third one whatever, give us your favorite
Zeke's Pizza pie, will pick one. On the air, Dog
of the Game today, who did you say your dog
of the game was gonna be?

Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
Pregame?

Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
By the way, pre game I said Rogers, Well, Rogers, okay,
which is kind of a that's it's kind of guys.
I mean, if you're saying a quarterback always gonna have
a pretty good.

Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
Shot with you, you, I would say, now, and I'm
gonna call him Denzel, because Denzel there's only one Denzel, Denzel,
one Denzel, one person who can carry that name, the
great Denzel Washington. But no, I think Denzel Boston obviously
was the dog of the game today, and he had
a great one. He's had some good performances this year,

(01:02:31):
so uh, he's that guy for me. Because I can't
go who Greg went with.

Speaker 7 (01:02:35):
I'm gonna go defense and go with Brunner since he
actually got out there and played, got a nice little
interception before the half, probably let us and tackles as well.

Speaker 5 (01:02:44):
Yeah, all right, well, great day for him. We'll see
what happens on Friday. We're gonna be at Moss Bay
Hall and Kirkland on Friday starting at one o'clock with
the kickoff at five join us. Then for Greg Lewis,
Mario Bailey, Mitchell Bly back in the studio.

Speaker 6 (01:02:58):
My name is Dave Softie Malor. He's worn at twenty
four to five.

Speaker 5 (01:03:01):
We'll see Monday at three o'clock from the Emerald Queen
and then obviously Friday at Mosbe Hall and kirklandt one
o'clock pregame five o'clock kickoff with the Dogs and Rutgers.
