Z six on the Bay's number onefor relaxing favorites for your morning ninety eight
point one The Breeze A Morning Breeze, Caroline McCardell Court Johnson. Last night,
Court was one of those nights whereI went to bed. I think
(00:21):
it was the heat, because itwas so warm in the East Bay.
It was ninety degrees. I couldn'tsleep. It was one of those nights
where you just lay in bed staringat the ceiling and you start doing the
math if I go to sleep now, sure and then I get five hours?
Oh wait, now it's four anda half. Exactly what happened?
Yeah, are you rested? Today? I had a very similar evening,
(00:42):
but it was had less to dowith the heat. I do feel it's
been maybe do we call it muggyhere in the Bay Area, Yeah,
a little humid iggy. I'm notused to this much much moisture. Not
that it's bad, yeah, butfor me, the dilemma, the growing
saga of my hard mattress continues.Remember this last week bought a new mattress
(01:03):
to put in the new apartment andit's the worst. So my wife actually
listening to the breeze, the morningbreeze up in Portland. You know,
she she ordered up a mattress topper, had it sent down delivered. Oh
good. I can't tell if shewas just being really nice or she was
also visiting over the weekend. She'slike, I'm not sleeping in that bed.
Oh that could be. But themattress topper is nice. It's still
(01:27):
not enough. Really, No,it's still very much rock hard. I
was going to say, that's exactlywhat happened to me with the bed that
I have too too hard, soI ordered a mattress topper. Yeah.
I thought you were going to sayyour day, your day is made,
because that was a game changer forme. So if it's still hard,
were you sleeping on a plank? It's really what it feels back my lower
(01:51):
my lower back still is a littlesore from it. Uh. The thing
I think happened is we got themattress topper. It's like down or a
simulated down topper, so it's niceand fluff, but it's still a hard
mattress. So I think I'm gonnahave to get like some memory foam,
two or three inches of memory foamthrow. Then I'm basically rebuilding. I
know, a mattress, Carola,I should have just bought a better mattress.
I know I'm laughing because I'm nowpicturing it's gonna be like three layers
(02:13):
on top of your bed. You'renot gonna be able to put your fifty.
That's gonna be your next problem. It's gonna be rolling up over your
toes every night. So tall. This is definitely a two. Be continued
Stone. I'll keep you up updatedmore come. We're at eight seven,
seven, nine, eight one hninety eight one. Maybe you have a
tip for court Let us know youcan always connect with us on social media.

(02:58):
Carolyn McCardell Johnson. I saw yesterdaycourt that the movie theater chain AMC
Theaters announced that they are going tostart selling their own brand of candy,
kind of a high end brand ofcandy. And the reason they're doing this
is that the supply chain costs forcandy that they buy from the regular you
(03:20):
know, the M and m's.The junior men saw that, right,
They're up thirty three percent, Soof course AMC has to pass that on
to the people at the movie theatersto do so, they're saying, how
do we combat this? It's alreadyexpensive enough right to go to the movie,
So how do we handle this?Tell you what we're going to make
our own candy. I have mixedfeelings about this, Carolyn, because you
know, when I go to themovies, I'm a popcorn and soda guy.
(03:43):
Yeah, that's typically my go to. Every now and then I will
treat myself with some peanut eminem's.Yes, I've had generic M and m's
before, the same. It's notthe same, never is the same.
So they're going to be making kindof their version of our favorite retreats.
The red vines. You and Iare so on the same page with this.
I have to see the logo ofSure Candy, and if it's amc
(04:08):
it's just like, is that youreminem or is that a real eminem?
I mean, maybe they will surpriseus with something delicious, but I can't
imagine anybody improving upon the peanut eminem. No if it ain't broke r though,
but it is expensive. So herewe are. This is why they're
doing. What's your go to whenyou go to the movies? Hands down
popcorn and a cherry cut cherry coke. That's my that's my wife's go too.
(04:28):
Oh really, question is extra butter? Or you think, oh I
go small, no butter because I'mkeeping it healthy. Okay, No,
we go all in we like youdo, or like extra butter please?
And then when they stop, they'relike, dope, keep going please.
Oh you're one of those. You'reone of those. Oh you know,
the people behind the counter hate that. I know, and we're oftentimes hey,
can you stop filling the bucket halfwaythrough and start buttering? Nothing's worse.
(04:51):
You're dictating your popcorn order? Youknow, we have our we have
our preferences. Yeah, Yeah, when they see you come up and they
all they hear are the words, hey can you? They probably are like
this guy. We put this questionon our Facebook page though, at ninety
eight when the breezes like when yougo to the movies, what is your
go to? And there are someinteresting concoctions here. So Elaine in Redwood
(05:12):
City says, I love popcorn withlots of halapanos, a cherry choke and
some peanut M and m's. AndI was like, how soon am I
going to the movies with you? That sounds amazing. Dale likes Reese's Pieces,
popcorn, red vines, red vines, red liquorice, and a giant
soda. I could go with himtoo. I would be curious to know
how many of these people because I'venever done this. I've never been a
fan of this. Yeah, thattake their candy and actually pour it into
(05:36):
the popcorn, and they do dothat. Yeah, I've never been that.
I've never been that person either, but I hear from a lot of
people it's good. Yeah, joinin on that conversation ninety eight when the

brightest day of mon is I wonthe I Love my School lunch Hero.
I was voted for number one.Good for you, Susie. What do
(08:07):
you do at the school? Iam the manager in the kitchen. I
cooked for them. Well, howdid you win? Well, they do
a contest and they take a videoand they say why they liked the person
so much and it was the specialegg class that came in and videotaped and
all that and we won. Theclass won five hundred dollars and I won
five hundred dollars for the lunchroom hero. That is very cool. What school?
(08:33):
June Jordan? June Jordan, andwhat city? San Francisco? Could
you give a shout out to missDavenport and Ben because they're the one that
nominated me. Consider them shouted out. So what are you having today?
What's for lunch today is chicken burritoand turkey sellwiches. That is fancy.
We used to have cheese zombies andcokes. Remind me what is a cheese
zombie. Cheese zombie is like aball of dough. Okay, cooked with
(08:58):
a piece of velveta in the middlein the oven, so it's perfectly soft.
Yeah, crispy on the outside. And you wash that down with a
coke for back in the day aboutfifty Keep talking right, I knew I
had you. I could see itin your eyes. You should see courts
eyes right now. It's all glazedover. And the burritos are actually good
because they put roccamole being because theguy wanted everything. That sounds delightful.
(09:20):
What time do you guys start servinglunch? Five? Okay, and the
other kids come at eleven fifteen? What about the morning breeze? When do
you serve them anytime? You wantto come here? Because I listened to
you every day, we appreciate that, and thinks again, thank you,

on that. We're at eight sevenseven nine eight one zero nine eight one.

(10:05):
That's Bette Midler on the base numberone for relaxing favorites for your Morning
ninety eight point one The Breeze,The Morning Breeze. Carolyn mccartell, Court
Johnson. We were talking last hourabout AMC Movie Theaters announcing yesterday they're going
to start making their own brand ofcandy, you know, the Junior Mints,
the Eminem's, the red vines thatwe get at AMC theaters. The
(10:26):
prices have gone up about thirty threepercent because of supply chain issues. So
AMC's way around it is saying we'rejust gonna make our own candy. And
the jury's kind of out on dowe trust the AMC candy under their own
brand? Will it be as goodas the real deal? Yeah? I
think a lot of us are skepticalbecause we love what we were already getting,
penut m and M's red vines.They have a certain taste we've had
(10:46):
the generics. We don't like them. Yeah, we're pros and we could
spot a knockoff candy, right,So, I mean that's a lot of
pressure on AMC. Eight seven sevennine eight one h ninety eight one.
Galin San Jose, Hi, goodmorning. Well I have the solution for
AMC. They need to find outwhere Dollar Tree gets they're they're candy.
(11:07):
But even target self, the foxis the same ones they do at the
movie theater for a dollar. That'sa good movie. I mean, why
wouldn't we all just go to thedollar store before we go to the movies
that hey, hey, hey,now I want a movie theater manager.
Oh I'm sorry, excuse us.We let's ask the expert. Yeah,
and we watch out for your people. We know the techniques, backpacks,
(11:28):
baggy clothes. I do though,That's exactly what I do. But I
do buy my popcorn at the movietheater because you know it, there's nothing
like movie theater. But that's theone that you can't recreate. You're right
on that, that's for darn sure. We're great talking to you. Thank
you for calling. Have a wonderfulday. You're welcome. By bye bye,
(11:50):
Gail. Night. I gotta sayCarolyn, one of my favorite days
as a movie theater manager? DidI did I mention I'm a movie theater
manager? At one point that wasmade crystal clear in our conversation with Gail
just now yet is when the popcornmanufacturers would come to town and they would
wine and dine you with their latestand greatest popcorn. The visual of this.
They would come in with five orsix different varieties of popcorn, it
(12:15):
was the best, and you gotto taste tests, and then we'd sit
there and decide what our flavor like, what type of popcorn we were going
to go with for the next year. Oh, you haven't just now opened
my eyes to what happens behind thescenes in the movie theater industry. There's
a lot of thought that goes intoit. This is so gold. We're
at eight seven seven nine eight oneh nine eight one. We have a
conversation going on our Facebook page thatwe'd love for you to partake in ninety

one for relaxing favorites for your morning, ninety eight point one The Breeze Morning
Breeze. Caroline McCardell Court Johnson.Coming up at A twenty five this morning
your chance to go see air supplynext week the Mountain Winery in Saratoga.
So be here at A twenty fivefor your chance to win those tickets here
on the Breeze. So, Caroline, as I'm getting used to living here
in the Bay Area, I moveddown from Portland, and I'm getting used
(13:24):
to certain things. I need toknow if a certain behavior or something I
should expect moving for well. Boy, as you know, different regions of
the country have personality types. Weoften hear about East Coast personalities kind of
aggressive, they just kind of dowhat they want. Sure in Portland it's
very passive. Yeah, so Imight say passive aggressive. So the other
day I had this incident at alocal grocery store. Oh geez, And
(13:46):
I need to figure out if thisis if I should prepare for this okay,
as I hope to establish I ama rule follower. I love to
follow rules. So the other dayI was at the grocery store, wasn't
paying attention, was with my daughterand I I was going through the self
checkout, and I have this kindof weird rule in my brain. If
I'm doing the self checkout, Ialways get cash because it's my fun way
(14:09):
of paying myself for doing the work. And it's also a great way to
keep cashing my wallet because my daughtersare always asking for money. Sure,
so I wasn't paying attention, askfor cash twenty bucks back and the bells
start going off. There's an error, and the worker steps over and says,
did you not read the sign?I was like what? And I
look up and there is a signthat says this machine does not dispense cash.
(14:33):
Don't ask for cash, and abell went off for this. It
was funny, yeah, and becauselike, yeah, there's okay, light
flash. Did you not read thesign? He says, did you not
read the sign? Bitdly, therewas a sign there, but it was
covered by another sign. But Isaid, I'm sorry, I didn't read
the sign. He's like, well, we've got to go get the money
from a different register. So Ifollow him over to the register and then
he introduces me to the checker thereas hey, we've got another person here
(14:56):
who didn't read the sign. Soit was just like, come on,
Bart, welcome to the Bay Area. Is that normal? It happens.
I felt really bad, but thenyou know, I'm a redhead. I
can it doesn't take too much sometimesto kind of set me off, and
like, oh, my seventeen yearold, actually my eighteen year old Quinn,
(15:18):
was like, dad, stop becauseI was going to be embarrassing.
I was gonna be go over andlike look at that sign. I can't
read that sign. And then I'mlike, okay, it's yeah, twenty
bucks. I apologize. I wouldsay this is I mean, it's not
that this never happens in the BayArea, but it definitely happens. Sure
I am going to say that, yeah, this is okay. This happens
in the Bay Area from time totime, not everywhere, but you you
(15:39):
just got lucky up front there toexperience it early. Maybe the takeaway is
as if I'm getting cash, Ishould look for signs, go out of
my way and look for signs, and then well, I think my favorite
part is the sign was covered byanother sign dragging you to the other check
or for only for that person tosay, oh, another one, other
one didn't read the sign. It'ssafe to say you will not be going
back to that store and time soon. I would imagine eight seven seven nine
(16:02):
eight one O nine eight one.If you've had an experience like this,
you have advice for Court, ashe's new here in the Bay Area.
Give us a call, let usknow. And coming up at eight fifty
this morning, a reminder, we'regoing to be commercial free here on the
Breeze at least ninety eight minutes,NonStop, commercial free, relaxing favorites to
start off your day right at eightfifty here breze. Good morning, Breeze,
(16:23):
Caroline mccartel, Court Johnson, sevenfifty six. Coming up at eight
twenty five this morning, it's anotherchance at those air supply concert tickets one
week from tomorrow, Carolyn with amountain winery in Saratoga. Be here at
eight twenty five. You're a chanceto win air supply tickets here on the
Breeze. And now a song you'llhear only on the Breeze Breze eight O
(16:45):
eight on the Bays, Number onefor relaxing Favorites at Work ninety eight point
one. The Breeze, The MorningBreeze. Caroline mccartel, Court Johnson.
We had kind of an intense morningto start off the show this morning.
Yeah, unexpected tragedy in that beingmy coffee pot that I make coffee for
the masses here at the building, for the other radio stations and myself.
(17:07):
And now Court included broke, yeah, handle, bro, You've got it
in your hand, and it's theit's it's you know, imagine a stereotypical
coffee pot with a with a blackhandle. It's glass with a black handle,
and the top part that typically wouldfasten to the bowl or you know,
the blast, yeah, is disconnected, so snap. So yeah.
So it's so you were ready tomake a pot of coffee, and I
(17:32):
said, if you do that, how are you going to hold it when
I pick it up? And Isaid from the bottom. And then Court
looked at me like, are youreally that dumb? Yeah? And you
were right for looking at me thatway, by the way, And then
I started thinking about all the peoplehere in the building who depend on Carolyn
to bring them their morning coffee. It's a thing. As a matter of
fact, Court was nice enough totake a video of this situation this morning,
(17:52):
which is on our Facebook page andour Instagram at ninety eight one the
breeze to show what happened. Butthere was a backup pot. You'll be
happy to know a backup coffee makerin the kitchen which I have stolen and
use that this morning. So itwas lovely. Do you think it's slowed
down your process, like the amountof time you spend because you had to
think on your feet real quickly,so it delayed juice slightly so much,
I think. So I spend alot of time. I mean I make
(18:15):
the coffee, I go studio tostudio, I fill up everybody's cups.
There's a conversation that usually happens, like a good morning, how are you
today? So what's the thing?Well, I was just reading yesterday,
Caroline this interesting stat The average workerspends fifty hours a year on coffee break,
whether that's going to their coffee,to the break room or going to
(18:36):
the local shop and standing in line. So fifty hours a week, or
excume me, fifty hours a yearis a good It's more than a week's
worth of work that you're spending oncoffee time. Your's probably my way higher.
Well, but it's you know,it's it's you know, it's good
work that you're doing because people dependon you for it or the masses.
Yes, it's my way of givingback here at the radio station to helping
(18:57):
my coworkers. It's good roderie. It starts everybody's day off with a smile.
Right, that's what we do hereon the Breeze. It should come
from the Breeze, right. Yeah. So now we have the stolen pot
from the kitchen and this one's gonnago to my recycling ben. But it's
all good. And we've got thevideo for you if you want to go
check that out. You do agreat job. Court does the videos here
(19:18):
for the Morning Breeze does a greatjob, So check that out on our
Facebook page, Instagram. Yeah.At ninety eight one the Breeze. We're
