Speaker 1 (00:00):
Want more Treehouse, check out our YouTube exclusive shows at
YouTube dot com slash at Treehouse on air.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
It is time to leave your worries outside and laugh
with us inside the Treehouse. I'm Daniel Malley along with
Trey Trenholm and Raj Sharma. Last week we talked about
the drama surrounding Stranger Things and how Millie Bobby Brown had, allegedly,

(00:52):
according to an unconfirmed report in The Daily Mail, filed
a bullying claim against co star David Harbor prior to
filming season five of Stranger Things. Neither of their camps
came out to deny it. There was no official statement
from the show, and then the premiere happened last Thursday.
At the premiere, everything looked, you know, pretty good. So

(01:16):
is the Stranger Things drama between Millie Bobby Brown and
David Harbor reel or is it made up tabloid trash?
They see more than fine at that premiere. They not
only pose for photographs together on the red carpet, but
they also rowed together to the event. So is this
story about her filing a bullying claim against him true

(01:36):
or not? Trey, what do you think?

Speaker 1 (01:43):
I think? I don't know. I don't believe she probably
filed it. I think there may have been some chit chat,
you know, chatter that she felt, you know, things got
too intense. But I feel like it's something that either
someone threw out to try to throw monkey wrench in
the whole thing, or just a publicity stunt.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Rise, where do you fall on this?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
I'm going to go publicity stunt there. That's to get
the whole thing out of the way. People can pretend
to like each other. They're called actors. I don't know
if you ever watched the show Castle, but Nathan Fillion
and Stana Kattika hated each other.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Really, Yeah, so that's nothing new. I mean, shows have
co stars. It's actually fairly common for the co stars
to be at odds. It was very famous in the
with Tom Hardy and Charlie Sturrun and the Mad Max
Fury Road movie. You just mentioning, what is it.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Trey, everyone who's ever worked with William Shatner.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, but the shows. But the shows have been great,
They've they've all good actors being able to perform around
an ego of that size something Trey and I also
know a thing or two about so these types of
situations do arise, and you put whatever personal feelings you
have a side for the sake of your job, right

(03:03):
or for even maybe higher than that, the sake of
the show, which maybe you love you like. I'll put
up with this because it's for this great thing. So
now that you guys have what you think the situation is,
let me see if your opinions change when you hear
about what the Duffer brothers, the co creators of Stranger

(03:25):
Things and executive producer Sean Levy, had to say about it.
All Right, we've got following an unverified report, okay that
we've already covered. The Duffer brother said, obviously you understand
I can't get into personal on set matters. That's Ross
Duffer to the Hollywood reporter. This is on the red carpet.

(03:48):
The outlet noted he was standing next to his brother
Matt during this conversation. He added, We've been doing this
for ten years with this cast and at this point
their family, and we deeply care about them. So you know,
nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone
one feels safe and happy. Okay, Now, for Sean Leavy,
you have to create a respectful workplace where everyone feels
comfortable and safe, and so we did everything to build

(04:10):
that environment, and we're proud of the fact that we did.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
So.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
I've read a bunch of stories and they ranged from
wildly inaccurate to there's so much noise around it. But
the truth is that we view this crew and this
cast as family, and so we treat each other with
respect and that's always been bedrock. Something absolutely happened on
that set. I've had enough conversations with corporate lawyers in weird,

(04:33):
funky HR situations to know when they've been basically told
what to say.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, that's that's a publicist writing it for them.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
That's a publicist meeting with a lawyer and then coming
together and saying, this is our message on this story.
So this is a very HR response from the co
creators and executive producer. So something absolutely happened. So now
I'm thinking that this goes to show how good of
performers David Harbor and Millie Bobby Brown might just be

(05:05):
because the best performance in Stranger Things might have been
on that red carpet last Thursday.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Or it could have been something that did get blown out.
You know, there was conflict, but then they made up,
I mean along the way. I mean it's not like,
you know, the filming of these things is over a
week or two.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Yeah, and you're right, I mean you're talking about I
think this season, this final season, I think they shot
it close to a year of production. I mean it
was months and months at least, I know, at least
five months of production. And the way these types of
things go because all these other because it's such a
large cast, they all have all these other projects as

(05:45):
well some people, this might have taken place over the
course of a year just to get everyone's schedules and
everything played in so Trey, I think you may be
onto something there. It might be a little bit of
a it might be truth to both pieces that something
may have happened, but they also may have just made up. Well.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
There's also there's a third factor that I think probably
goes unnoticed, which is for David Harbor, he started when
she was a child, and you have now gone from
basically child to adult, and there may have been some
things that like were funny with them between the two
of them when she was a child or a teenager

(06:21):
that all of a sudden she didn't like as an adult,
and you may have got in trouble for.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
That, but yeah, yeah, she may have had to have
a conversation with him that kind of centered around you're
not my father. You may have fatherly feelings towards me
because of this role, this dynamic that we have on
the show, But you're not my daddy. Do you guys
know who her now father in law is? Bon Jovi?

Speaker 4 (06:52):
Oh yeah, that's right.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
So I kind of wonder, and this is complete guesswork
on my part. I can't help, but wonder did he
say something to her about getting married so young? Because
when I saw the headline that said she was engaged
and not engaged to just anyone, but engaged to the
son of John bon Jovi, my first thought was, well,

(07:15):
that ain't gonna last.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
My first thought was, doesn't it suck to just always
be known as the son of John bon Jovi?

Speaker 2 (07:25):
You know what? You know what, this may actually be
a perfect relationship for him because he's used to being
in someone's shadow, right, So by marrying Millie Bobby Brown,
he may be comfortable in that shadow because he's been
in his father's shadow his entire life.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Oh yeah, I mean he runs the family. I think
they have a wine, a winery or something like that.
I think he's kind of embraced being John bon Jovi's son,
and you know rightfully, so not a bad gig. No,
it's not.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Believe me.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
If there was a posting for that on LinkedIn, I'd
be all over it. I'd be like, hey, I make
my resume a match.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
You guys are white, one of you might get the job.
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
A position. Yeah. No, they would find a position for you,
because I feel like they would have to, but not
that one.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
No.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Yeah, nobody would believe that.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
If I was like, hey, I'm buon Jobe's son, They're like, hey,
you're lying.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Or he doesn't know it yet.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
When was that world tour?

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Yeah, I went to India once. That's all it takes.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Better Alive is about to bring on a whole new meaning.
So do slippery when wet. We don't know how he
did it, but somehow Richie and John managed to make
the Ganges even wetter.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
And that was your Richie's alcohol.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
I mean, it really is. It really is a fascinating story.
So and I couldn't help, but I was. I was
set to let it go until I read this story
the other day about what the Duffer brothers said, what
Sean Leevy said, and I was like, that is three
departments coming together, HR, public Relations and legal telling those
people here's what you're going to say.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Well, I mean, you're also working for what is now
one of the behemoths of the entertainment industry and Netflix.
So I'm sure they carefully crafted this one.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah. And it's fascinating too, because this is something this
is another wrinkle about the Stranger things that I love,
and this is more of a Netflix deal. This is
one of the few shows that Netflix is going to
allow to actually finish on Netflix because one of the
things Netflix has, you know, going against it. One of
the comments and always gets online is that they ca

(10:00):
Hansel shows when they're popular, Like there's there's countless shows
that have seasons that have gone only one or two
seasons at Netflix, like now We're good and there they're done,
and and it leaves a lot of the fans going, well,
what the hell we need to we need the rest
of this show. So A Stranger thinks it's one of
those you know that it's actually let you know, finish.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
But didn't they do the opposite with like, uh, designated Survivor.
I think that was on CBS ABC, Uh, Abc, Okay,
and then I think it was two or three seasons
and that canceled and then Netflix picked it back up.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
You know what, You're right, that is something that they
have done, and that, to me, that's very smart on
streaming services part, which is if something didn't do great
on broadcast, you can save it and get some good
numbers on it on streaming. And I think it did
better numbers on streaming that it did on ABC.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
And did well and famously they did that with the
rest of development.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Oh yeah, that's right, and one could argue that's one
of the things that helped propel Netflix to its current
someome status.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
But I think they're also I think they're more likely
to give shows they create a longer run. I mean,
Umbrella Academy was a great show for three seasons and
then Netflix let it have a fourth season and it
was just a money grab. I mean, it was awful.
And I'm that's why I'm hoping this season of Stranger

(11:26):
Things is good. I hope it's not a what was
the show on HBO that everyone went crazy about with
the last season?

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, I'm with you. Trey because one of the most
difficult things to do if you have a successful television show,
or even to a certain degree, a successful film franchise,
is once you announced to everyone that it's ending, sticking
the landing, sticking the finale to where everyone, all the fans,

(11:58):
feel satisfied, the story feels like it's ending in its
proper place, something that makes sense that but it's also
not just fan service.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
You know.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
That's very difficult, and very few, very few television shows
have actually stuck the finale. I mean, we know Game
of Thrones is one of the best recent examples that
completely botched it. The Sopranos tied itself up, but it
was a controversial ending because it just went to black
and started playing Journey and everyone's like, well, what theF happens?

(12:33):
But it keeps us talking about it, So to me,
ultimately that was probably a good ending.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
They got when the Sopranos when it went to black,
because that was a line from Tony's talking to a
big pussy. He said, you know, what do you think
happens when you go He goes, well, Tony, I think
it just all goes to black.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
So that's where that came from. When that happened, it goes.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
That's something like one point two million people called their
cable providers to see what happened.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, because they just thought that HBO got turned off. Yeah,
everyone's like unplugging their like unscrewing their co acts, blowing
on it, screwing it back in. See if it's dad
or they're turning stuff off and on. They're calling HBO,
They're calling cable like, what the hell happened to my show? Yeah,

(13:24):
all of a sudden, the intro to six Feet Under
starts and like, I'm not ready for this. I need
I need to know what happened to Tony and his family
and that damn diner.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Isn't there rumors of that coming back too?

Speaker 3 (13:35):
I know he's past i'ms Gendelfini, but I heard there
was rumors of that show coming back or maybe a no,
there was a prequel to.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
It, right, Yeah, there was a prequel and his son
played him. Anything more than that, I'm not sure of.
But as far as grand finales go, you're right, Trey,
because you and I have seen every single episode of
Stranger Things, raj I forget. Have you seen all of
it or just some of it? I've seen none of it,
all right, so you suck. But the thing is, though

(14:04):
you can at least still relate to this from a
general standpoint when it comes to this final season drama
aside true or not? Just put that aside. I find
myself feeling like Ricky Bobby in Talladegon Knights at the
dinner table, praying to the sweet Baby Jesus, please let
this Stranger Things finale be good. It doesn't even have

(14:27):
to be amazing, it doesn't have to be great. Just
let it be good and I will be fine with it.
Dear sweet Baby Jesus, please let this be good.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
Now I want to watch this to see if it's terrible.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Look, I highly recommend the show. You've got four seasons
to watch. It's really good, and if you're dedicated to it,
you can get the four seasons in before the fifth
starts on the twenty sixth.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Yeah, I pass.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
What do you have against joy?

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Just the concept like I'm not a okay, I'm not
a sci fi guy or a.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
Whatever you want to call it.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Like, so when somebody was describing and this maybe what
it was, somebody was describing it to me, and they're like,
somebody's in the lights or something like that in the
beginning first season.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
See, here's your problem. You're listening to people tell you
things about the show out of context. Almost every show
that has something supernatural is going to sound ridiculous out
of context. That's why you have to watch the show
for yourself to understand how what that actually means in
context of the show. When you see the show, talking

(15:46):
through the lights actually makes sense.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
Yes, it sure does.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
I realize what your problem is. You'd rather make fun
of something than understand it. Yes, I didn't realize that
was not clear. Right.

(18:26):
the Cooks. All right, So, in the first segment, we
talked about Millie, Bobby Brown and David Harbor perhaps putting
on their greatest performances with stranger things by pretending to
be completely cool with each other on the red carpet.
And they might be, but for now, for the sake
of our segment here and segues, let's pretend it really

(18:46):
is the best performance either of them have ever put on.
That being said, is it better than this performance that
the brand new Miss World Chile had over the weekend?

Speaker 4 (19:01):
Excuse who right now?

Speaker 5 (19:06):
Wadd bad no?

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Wohd no.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
No no, not that they've asked me, but ninety seven won.
The Eagle has an opportunity to to do something really
great for their next BFD show. Also also, Miss Chile
goes hard.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Yeah, and who you talk about a performance like she's
so hot. I don't think she could yodel. I wouldn't care.
She could play the spoons, I don't.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
Go I would.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
I think people would pay a lot of money to
see her just sitting on a stool playing some spoons
on you know what, playing some spoons on a front
porch somewhere.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
But still doing death metal while playing the spoons.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
That's okay, yeah, death spoons.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Is it cheating to have your other personality do your
talent because I feel like that.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
No.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
I think I think that should be completely fine because
in the world of pageantry, it's supposed to be very
accepting now right the way the world's supposed to be,
So they have to take mental health, uh seriously. So
if you have two or three other people inside you,
then that's all. That's all part of the package. And

(21:07):
at some point, if you're representing Chile at the Missworld competition,
I think it's important for the entire country of Chile
to know how many people are inside you because you're
going to represent the country.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
I feel like there are a string of ex boyfriends
that when they heard that on national TV, all of
a sudden got in the fetal position PTSD all of
a sudden came out.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yeah, because at the time they didn't realize that she
was in a band, Like they just thought that was
her just mad, she was just rehearsing.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Yeah. And then kind of like Taylor Swift does, she
takes all this Miss Chile takes all of her relationship
drama and funnels it into her death metal singing.

Speaker 4 (21:55):
But I don't understand does anybody understand the words?

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Now, I'm I'm, I'm gonna tray. It's more it's more
melody based at this.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Point, because in the beginning I thought it was her
death metal version of Somewhere over the Rainbow. I don't
know why I heard that.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
Uh. Now, there's there's a song in here that it
sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it. But this
let's see if we can. We'll play it again and
see if this song sounds familiar or maybe it is
Somewhere over the Rainbow, you know, death metal. See right here,

(22:48):
it sounds like what is it Lincoln Is it Lincoln Park?
Don No, that's I feel like it's corn or something.
It sounds like bodies, sounds like drum. Yeah, listen, to
it here. No, yeah, I have no idea if that's

(23:20):
English or not. And I think Trey's right. I don't
think anybody cares that being said, Ignacia Fernandez is there?

Speaker 3 (23:27):
Not?

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Is her name? Ignasia Fernandez was crowned Miss World Chile
twenty twenty five. Do a no small part to her
death metal vocalization. This is an original song by her
and her death metal band Decesses that might be in
Chile and Spanish. I'm not sure if that translates English
or not. This is at the Miss World Chile semifinals.

(23:50):
The vocalist, model, and animal rights advocate beat out nineteen
other finalists to be crowded Miss World Chile twenty twenty five.
And by beat out, I assume they mean she actually
beat them?

Speaker 1 (24:01):
Yes, Uh does that mean she compete in like Miss Universe.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
I'm hoping so yeah, yeah, because yeah, because I yeah,
I think this was her winning the crown in Chile. Yeah,
And so now she's going to go on to the
international competition and the other competitors got to be thinking,
oh no. And also I think we have a I
think we have a great premise for like another Miss

(24:28):
Congeniality sequel, but.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
It was nice to see that the bass was being
cleaned by last year's Miss Chile.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
It's that camaraderie you don't always good in the American side,
you know.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
I was trying to figure out who had better hair.
That is fantastic.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Yeah, anyone else have goosebumps?

Speaker 4 (25:16):
No, I'm thinking with them ATSD.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
I'm thinking if like the Ghostbusters had one of their scanners,
you would just seems like five different beams just floating
around in there.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
They're all at full attention. Win.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
That's not how did you win?

Speaker 4 (25:37):
I came off my meds. That's how it.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
We're gonna have to cross the streams Ray. There is
no misworld, there is only Zeel. Let me just point out,
though this was not the most amazing performance over the weekend,

(26:00):
there is one that might actually take the crown from
Miss Chile. And we have our very own ras Sharma to.

Speaker 7 (26:06):
Thing for this sabouts and I take on and.

Speaker 5 (26:12):
She's got the top of my lungs.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
What's going on? Wait for it? And say and saying
nothing and German nothings in the tap b bees, the
bes in the tap b bees in the drop.

Speaker 4 (26:32):
Yeah, his parents are so proud.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
It was gonna be.

Speaker 4 (26:41):
It was gonna be our doctor.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
He still can be. He's just gonna be a doctor
with a side hustle.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
Yeah, I mean he gets a lot. I mean I've
seen a few of his videos and they're just as bad.

Speaker 8 (26:55):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
But the see, that's the thing. The confidence is what
sells that. He looks like he's having a great time.
My ears don't. But but he is having a blast.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
If we're being honest though. I mean his lyrics mixed
in with the four non blondes, it does work. Oh yeah, yeah,
I mean this is over.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
I mean I'm assuming over time he's figured this out
because now he's finding his own voice, which he needs
to lower.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
Uh, he needs to alter that volume.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
And I'll set bout side and I take on good
and bevide She's going to top of my.

Speaker 7 (27:37):
Lungs whiles going on.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Drop it, just saying and saying nothing the books, German,
nothing abasing the tap.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
B bes in the CAB's in the tap b bees
in the drop.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Yeah you sing it, Sonjay, Oh my gosh. It's just
you know, he he's got to be like a mini
celebrity in India somewhere.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
Give me figuratively or literally, like maybe he's really tiny.
We just don't know it.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Maybe that's what it is.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
He's tiny, And that's what it explains the voice, because
nobody should have a pitch outside of like Arry Gibb,
Like nobody needs to have a pitch that high.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
I just I feel sorry for him because I feel
like he's the kid that got picked last, you know,
to play sports, because that's supposed to be You're supposed
to do that with two people. But he just hit
it up. No one picked him, so he had to
do both parts one.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Yeah, he's that one kid that actually plays tennis with
the other half up right.

Speaker 4 (28:59):
What I'm saying is we're Indian kids. We always got
picked last. It didn't matter what side of the globe
you were on.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Nobody would pick up basketballs like Sharma's the one.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
It turns out that the Western hemisphere didn't have the
exclusive on that.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Yeah, that's why there's three Indians in Okay, two point
four billion of us, only three have played in the
NBA Okay, and none of them play anymore one's a
professional wrestler than two of them are a real estate.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
But also, like the three billion other ones you just mentioned,
they also were not picked first.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
No, that's why they had time to go have sex.
They weren't they weren't playing any sports, Like, that's the
why we just keep pro creating. Yeah, you'll never hear,
you know, a basketball game where you know, like I've
said this before, you won't be sitting at a bar.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
This is how we're not known for athletics.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
You'll never be sitting at a bar and some guy
turned you and be like, oh man, cowboys would have
won had Patail caught the ball.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
Like, you'll never.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
That'll never happen.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
So what you're saying is you can have a medical expert,
doctor Sanjay Gupta on you know, like CNN. Yes, but
you're not gonna get a doctor SONJ like you had
doctor J in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
No, unless he's actually the team doctor.

Speaker 5 (30:26):

it is Tuesday inside the treehouse. This means it is
time for Treehouse talkback.

Speaker 8 (31:27):
Hey guys, it's Linda. So the other day you were
talking about the sharing of food and everything. So my
husband never eats all of his fries and I shouldn't
eat all of my fries. So we decided that we
would start getting large and sharing that that is the
only food that we share. The other day, he offered
me a bite of his meal, and I was convinced
that the aliens came and abducted him and I will

(31:50):
never see my husband again, or that was the bite
that he poisoned. I haven't decided yet.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Tell me you've been married for many year without telling
me you've been married for many years, because once you
start considering poisoning the other one, I feel like that's
a ten plus marriage ten year plus kind of a situation.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
In Hollywood, it could be ten minutes.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Hollywood moves at a different pace than the rest of
us do. Before we jump into Linda's talkback here, if
you would like to leave us talk back, do so
on our website Treehouse on Air dot com. Click on
the microphone lower right hand corner, and you can drop
us a comment about something you heard on the show,
something you saw on social media, whatever the case is.

(32:35):
Drop it in our talkback Treehouse on Air dot com
microphone lower right hand corner, and we just might play
it here on the show. All right, So Linda and
her husband, thank you, Linda for the message. The only
food they share is French fries, so they have their
boundaries set. They both know this is the only food

(32:56):
we share. It's the fries. Raj, you share no food?
Mm hm, Trey, where do you fall on this again?
I'm fine sharing food, just open borders. Yeah, which is
very odd since you're the Republican in the tree. Uh

(33:19):
so have you and your new you and your new
girlfriend have has this happened to you guys yet? With
the food where she's like, hey, can I have some?
And you were like yes? Or did you have some
of hers? Uh?

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Dan, you got really off set you're you get really
out of whack. Uh, But uh yeah, it's We've had
like one instance where we went out and we had
Italian and uh, she tried a little bit of mine.
I tried a bit of hers. It was no big deal,
and it stayed.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Would just try a little bit and it didn't turn
into her eating all of yours.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Honestly, no, because the portions were so big she could
have it. It was actually one of those meals where
we could have split something and been plenty.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
But it's like going to Buka to Beppo back in
the day and getting a meatball that's enough for four.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
So my first run in with this was back in
high school. I had a girlfriend in high school and
she loved, loved going to Chili's, Right, But I realized
after our second time going to Chili's why she loved
it so much, because she would always get a chicken
caesar salad.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Right.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
I would get something you know good at Chili's, you know,
like the chicken crispers or something like that, or the burger,
and she inevitably would eat my stuff. So I learned
very early on you got to set some boundaries when
it comes to the food in a relationship, because she
very much felt like it didn't count if she ordered

(35:05):
her salad and ate half of my chicken crispers. And
at one point I had to tell her, Look, if
you want one of these tenders, you're gonna to get
your own, because you're not even eating that salad. This
is ridiculous. I'm in high school and keeping in mind,
minimum wage hasn't gone up much since then, so while

(35:27):
I might have been a baller for the nineties, by
today's standards, not very good. My point is I wasn't
made of money in high school. So if you're going
to order it, eat it, don't just eat mine.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Yes, And what about now, Dan, when Tara wants some
of your food, what do you do? You put your
foot down and say no.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
No, our situation is different. Because our situation is different.

Speaker 4 (35:54):
I e.

Speaker 7 (35:54):
In the bathroom, I eat in the shadows. You'll never
get any of my precious.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
I hate you, No, our food situation is different. It's like, usually,
depending on what we get, she'll usually end up giving
me a little bit of whatever is left of hers
because she doesn't finish something, so she'll give me some
of that.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
Oh, that's that's nice of her.

Speaker 4 (36:34):
Throwing the scraps, very sweet.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
It's actually just a trail of them out, like leading
out of the bathroom into the light.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
Does she give it to you inside your cage or
outside of it? I'm sorry, Kennel, Kennel, that's not cage anymore.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
As long as the water's full, it's fine.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
And you don't poop on the rug, that's good.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Like I do have to clean up my own box.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
Now.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
Our food, our food thing is normal. Like if she
wants a little bit, I'm fine with it because she
doesn't typically eat She doesn't. She doesn't do the thing
where she orders hers and then eats mine. She doesn't
do that.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
Dotcha. Okay, that's so nope, I can't. I can't.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Like just hearing your sharing stories make me like cringe.
I'm like, just eat your own food. You you picked it,
you eat it. I can approach it from a pragmatic
point of view. Okay, So take my marriage out of it.
If someone was to ask, hey, what should I do
about this? You could always ask.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
Because if you're not like at the early stages of dating,
and she says, hey, can I have some of that?
You could simply respond to her who's paying for this?

Speaker 4 (37:59):
Who? Because financially or emotionally, Well.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
Those are two separate questions, because you can ask her.
If you're paying for this meal, then have at it.
If I'm paying for this meal, then you get to
set the ground rules. And if you're going Dutch, then
you eat yours. I eat mine. But you're right, the
emotional aspect of it is a completely different thing.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
Right, gotcha.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Yeah, I'm I'm saying that's the I'm not saying that's
the right way to go. I'm just saying it's a
way you could go.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
Okay, if you ever you ever try that out?

Speaker 2 (38:33):
Oh god, No, I'm not stupid. I'm happy to I'm
happy to eat in the dark bathroom. I don't want
to be forced to eat outside.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
I just feel like you, whoever asked the question, who's
paying for this, It's going to be you.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Both financially and emotionally.

Speaker 7 (38:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
Yeah, the meal is the cheap part.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
