Speaker 1 (00:00):
Speaking of breaking news, a London bound plane carrying more
than two hundred people crashing after takeoff in India. This
is West Michigan's Morning News. Steve Kelly Brett Pikita is
at Blifield Country Club. We'll check in with him as
well this morning for the Meyer LPGA classic for simply
give but on that topic this morning in London on

(00:23):
the International Desk, Jonathan Savage with Fox News Radio, Jonathan,
thanks for doing this today.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
No problem.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
The pictures that we are seeing out of India not good.
Is that plane appears to have crashed also in a
residential area. What do we know?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah, there are images in fact of the moment of
the crash, the plane descending, gliding downwards and then disappearing
out of sight before a fireball rocketed into the air.
Of course, it had just taken off for a ten
hour flight from Ahmedabad to London. It would have been
loaded with fuel when it came down just five minutes
after takeoff. We believe there are more than two hundred

(01:00):
than forty on board, one hundred and sixty nine Indians,
fifty three British, seven Portuguese and a Canadian among them.
This was an Air India flight but a Boeing seven
eight seven Dreamliner plane, one of the most modern and
popular aircraft in the sky, introduced in two thousand and nine,
carried more than a billion passengers and until today, has

(01:22):
never had a fatal accident.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
What did we hear, if anything, from the flight crew
leading up to it.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Well, it appears as though it was not a sudden incident,
partly from the fact that the plane was gliding rather
than nose diving towards the ground. But we're also understand
that it was They were able to send a may
day call to the control tower before that happened. We
don't have any more details on that yet, but the

(01:50):
chairman of Air India says that they're focuses on supporting
the affected people and their families. Of course, there are
emergency services personnel rescue work at the scene, but it
would be it could well be the case that there
are casualties not just from the aircraft itself, but also
from the ground.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
We will check back in and continue with this breaking
news story throughout the morning, using all of our assets
on West Michigan's Morning News, and obviously sending our prayers
to that area as well. One of the things we
were initially to talk to you about could eventually affect
us here in West Michigan. We have seen the effects
of social media in a negative way since the inception

(02:33):
of social media. But let's go to France. Jonathan Savage,
the president there, wants to ban social media for those
under fifteen.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
How come Yes, He says that social media is partly
responsible for a rise in youth violence in France. And
he said this after an incident a couple of days
to go at a school. A thirty one year old
school assistant was stabbed to death during a routine weapons check.
Police officer was all so injured, but a fourteen year

(03:01):
old has been detained by police. The French Prime minister
saying it was not an isolated case. And as I say,
Manuel Macron thinks social media is one of the factors
to blame for violence among young people. No directly to
this case, but this has been something Emanuel Macron has
wanted for some time, and he's using this incident to
highlight what he sees is a very important.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Issue and he's hoping that there'll be a sort of
bigger governoring body that will take action too. He wants
the EU to do this, or says that he will.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yes, he says the EU should do it for the
entire continent. But the EU has said in the last
twenty four hours actually they believe it is an issue
for individual member states. What the European Union is doing
is working on an age verification system which will go
into trials this summer. So that's perhaps something that the
French government and other governments could use to try and

(03:51):
make this work. Now. Of course, you know, if you
show a teenager a book marked do not open, the
teenager will open that book and they'll find ways to
get around ways not to open that book. VPNs on
the internet are growing in popularity in France after age
restrictions were placed on pernograhi websites.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Interesting. We will check back in on that as well,
should it affect us anymore With Box News Radio Ian Washington.
I'm sorry in London this morning. Thank you for your
time today.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
