Thursday night kicks off the Grand Rapids International Wine, Beer and Food Festival, and Barbara Anderson, Associate Vice President of Philanthropy with Hospice of Michigan joins us to discuss how you can help and what you will see at the event.

all of Hospice of Michigan, Barbara Edison, back with us.
Thanks for doing this again today.

Absolutely, thank you.

You are the benefit Hospice of Michigan for Cheers for
Charity and the Van one Republic. Is it international sensation.
There's a little sports star expected to make an appearance
to that. Brett Will weighing in on talk to us
a little bit about Cheers for Charity.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, absolutely, well, we are so grateful to be back
for another year to benefit from the kickoff of the
Food and Wine Show, which so many people know so well.
And absolutely Hospitae of Michigan is there Thursday night and
we're planning a great party and want everyone to join us.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
You know, it's funny entertainers and superstars and sports and
everyone seemed to be getting involved when it comes to
spirits or wine or whatever. It's just exploded. We know
this from Beer City here in Grand Rapids. But NBA
and Piston legend Isaiah Thomas is going to be a
part of the event on Thursday night with a tasting

and so forth. And he's involved with a winery right
he is a champagne.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Actually, yeah, so pretty exciting.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
And Zach Filkins of One Republic is the owner of
Filkins Vineyards on stage right with the usual suspects. How
exciting is this?

Speaker 2 (01:26):
We're very excited. I like to think that we have
something for everyone. If the you know, the thought of
the food and the wine doesn't get you, then perhaps
it's you know, getting to meet a sports legend or
like you said, somebody from One Republic. I mean, we've
kind of got a well rounded evening and obviously benefiting
our veterans program, which is an incredibly important cause.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Yeah, tell us a little bit about that as part
of Hospice of.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Michigan certainly, so you know, this month in particular, we
thought it was really important to be able to highlight
our veterans program about one in five of our paces.
Actually that we care for our veterans and we know
that they you know, may have experienced them things in
their life. At the end of life in particular, come
back to the surface and they have to navigate. So

(02:13):
we specially train our clinicians to be able to help
them and their families navigate those things, no matter what
they look like. And then we also have In addition
to the sort of medical social work side of that,
we also have the ceremonial side. So you know, some
of our veterans perhaps came home and were never thanked.
So we do a ceremony for each of them. We

(02:34):
pin them, we give them a special certificate, try to
make it a really special event just to say, you know,
especially at this time in their life, like we acknowledge
their service for us.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Cheers for Charity is part of the Grand Rapids International Wine,
Beer and Food Festival at DeVoss Place this weekend. The
