Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into West Michigan's Morning News. My name is Schmidty.
I am filling in for mister Steve Kelly this morning,
with Bret Pakita here as well and joining us on
the liveline. This is going to be, no doubt, a
fascinating conversation. John Schultz, tech expert and founder of easy Locator, John,
Good morning, Good morning. So I think a lot of
(00:21):
people have this at top of mind at their work.
Working with your new AI coworker, because there's still a
lot of us that are very i'm going to say,
confused and slightly nervous about AI, especially when it comes
to your job.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Well, I think we shouldn't be afraid of it. I
think it's just the next step or iteration of technology.
For the last twenty years, we've been using a very
form of AI where you know, for instance, if you
call a major corporation and you get a health line
and they kind of prompt you through there, that is
a series of AIS that have already been already developed
(01:00):
out there. What you're seeing is kind of the next
generation where they're trying to make it a little bit
more intelligent and be able to respond in a timely
manner of information that we're looking for. You know, I've
always maintained being in the in the technology industry for
a number of years. You know, what you put into
a system is what you get out. And one of
the fears that a lot of people have is when
(01:21):
they start to ask these questions, what kind of answer
are they going to get? And these open systems like
open AI or geek seek or something like that, the
challenge is and some of that information is not good, erroneous,
and there's a lot of falsehoods out there. So what
we're seeing though, is an evolution and development and I'm
really looking forward to what happens in the future. At
(01:42):
easy Locator, we use this. We're in the golf industry.
In fact, we have a customer just down the road
from in Spring Lake where we actually use AI to
assist our customer in improving the health of their greens,
improving and finding that whole and most importantly, enhancing the
player's experience. And this is all behind the scenes and
when you're able to do things at much faster rate
(02:03):
and understand what's going on.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
John, don't you think just the name kind of scares
people because you know, tech is one thing, but when
you start seeing artificial intelligence and you know, whether they've
seen a sci fi movie out there or whatever, they
start thinking the worst, right, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I agree, you know, I think Hollywood has an impact
on that. If you remember the Terminator movie, thinks of
that nature, right, you know. Basically what AI is is
what we call an area just read learned you know language,
it's machine learning language. And so what we're trying to
do is we're trying to instruct a computer or a
(02:40):
system to follow specific instructions, retruve that information as quickly
as possible in milliseconds, and come back with the right answer.
So it really does take individuals and our ability as
resources and developers is to basically come up with the
correct answers that are being asked. So it really isn't
(03:01):
as sophisticated as most people think. But the fact is
it's able to retrieve a lot of different information very
quickly that intimidates people.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
And Johnny did mention it still has to be fed
information as well. This is still kind of a partnership
and needing that human hand. If you will, do you
have some good tips on how you can become that
person that is knowledgeable on AI. So you are important
at the job.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Absolutely, you know. It's kind of one of those evolution things.
You know. One of the things I suggest a lot
of people doing is just go to chat GPT. It's
an open source, free out there, and just use it
in your everyday environment. One of the things that I
started incorporating when I first used this many years ago
is in my email correspondence. You know, I have a
(03:44):
tendency to be very direct with my correspondence, and what
I was able to do is find out that AI
enhance the of the message, improve the professionalism, improve what
I was trying to do. So it took my basic
concepts and put a bow around it to make it
sound more appealing to the reader itself. So those kinds
of tools, we're also seeing AI and approaching everyday tasks.
(04:07):
You know, if I'm trying to put together recipe, even
you know, if you use you know, some of the
artificial stuff like Siri and the Google products and stuff
like that, they try to put that thing together and
anticipate what you're trying to do. So even even cooking,
you could actually use AI to assist you in that,
just asking the question, what's out there, how do we
what do all want to cook for dinner tonight?
Speaker 1 (04:27):
That's great stuff. John Schultz, tech expert and founder of
Easy Locator, Thanks for your AI health this morning.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
You bet y'all have a great da
