Speaker 1 (00:00):
School Day game tomorrow with the Marleys in town. Same
team Friday night at Van Andel Arena. This is West
Michigan's morning News. Steve, Kelly, Brett, Kata, Lawrence Smith in
the power play this morning. Edwards Trailmax, thank you so
much for joining us this morning on Wood Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Good morning guys, thanks for having me in. Good morning
to everyone in Michigan.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
I love it. First season as a Griffin. We have
a lot of those on the roster, Edwards, and thanks
for joining us. Fifth year as a pro. But you
came from overseas now signed in March with Detroita two
way contract, now landing with the Griffin. So I guess
my first question is what do you think of the
city of Grand Rapids in West Michigan.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Oh, listen, it's my first time and I already love it.
You know, I live downtown. I've has had lots of
time to discover walk around it's it's it's a great city.
You know. In my care year, I have lived in
some very good cities all around, and this is obviously
one of the best, not only city today and the

(01:00):
people around here. So far, it's been so so good
and hopefully it keeps going that way.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Well, I hope you enjoy the food. We're kind of
known for that. We're kind of known for beer too,
as your teammates probably told you. But I got to
ask you this.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I want to say it all about it on the radio,
you know.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Well, I want to ask you this because we like
to have fun and you know, introduce the new players,
especially to the fans when they come and see it
Van Agel Arena. So you're from Latvia. What is your
favorite food that maybe you miss from Latvia that you
can't find here.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Well, you know, I guess I guess I missed my
grandma grandmother's food. It's usually soups we love. We love
making like let's say, meatball soups, borch. A bunch of
the soups that are from last Via are not here. Actually,
one of my teammates, he and Mitchell, is a big
soup guy, and he says he loves the European soups too,

(01:51):
So we're trying to find a great European restaurant for soups.
But other than that, like just my mom's cooking, you know,
I mean, you can replace that the restaurant.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Unfortunately, now I appreciate that, and I appreciate good soup
as well, so I love that answer. Let me ask
you this, the transition from playing in the AHL now
this season. And I know that you played college hockey
at the University of Maine, so you're a little bit,
you know, accustomed to the difference. But what is it
for the fans as far as difference for you overseas?
I know, bigger sheets of ice and so forth you

(02:22):
play on. But is it a tough transition or not?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, well, I played in the HL two years ago
prior to going back to Europe, so I played for
Province Ruins, right, and so I knew I had the
expectations and I knew what to expect. The thing is,
everything is just way faster, honestly, Like you know, as
you said, the sheet has a lot to do with it.

(02:46):
The sheet is smaller than back in Europe. So everything
like let's say, skating, reaction time, decisions time, everything has
to be on points. So you know, here in the
beginning of season, I'm just trying to find it a
new game, right, you know, I think I can play
very well. It's just just finding your your game and

(03:08):
you know, keep going. So I mean, so far, our
team has been finding our game very good, so I
really really hope we keep going and maybe we'll make
something special to share.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
We had Coach Watson on in this segment a couple
of weeks ago. It's always fun to catch up with
Coach and one of the things he talked about with
the new vies with you as he said, yeah, we
saw Edwards shoot one time. We're like, yeah, that's why
he signed with the Red Wings and the Griffins. You've
got a rocket shot. Where did that come from?

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Well, I don't even know. I mean, I guess a
long hours in the gym, a long hours of shooting
the fuck. You know. It's I've been always, you know,
very strong physically, So I've got to give it to
my dad probably and my coaches. My dad for jeans,
my mom for a good looking jeans, yeah, and probably

(04:00):
a bunch of strength coaches. So it does come for
a strength. Obviously a lot to do with technique as well.
So throughout the years, I developed a very good shot
and I just keep I'm trying to keep using it
as much as I can. But you know, other teams
are doing prese code so they know I'm shooter.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Edwards Trail Max number thirty four left wing. You can't
miss him by the way at six four five when
he gets out of the ice for your Grand Rapids Griffins.
And the one thing I will say because at your
first school day game probably tomorrow we eleven am face off,
So make sure you get your nap this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Oh I gotta go. Hey listen, I like to stay
up late a little bit. Not today, guys. Today, I'm
going to bed very early, and we got to win it.
Win it tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
That is the Marley's in town. Then they're back on
Friday night as well. Edward's Trailmax with the Griffins. Thank
you so much for coming in today.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Thank you guys. Everybody, have a good day and I'll
see you in the stands hopefully tomorrow

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
