Speaker 1 (00:00):
Griffins and Rockford Wednesday, before hosting Charlotte Friday and Saturday
nights at Van Andel Arena. Visius West, Michigan's Morning News
Steve Kelly, Brett Kata, Lawrence Smith, and in the power play,
Tyler angle Grand Rapids Griffins. Tyler, thank you so much
for doing this today.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, thank you for having me another first year Griffin. Guys,
So welcome to Grand Rapids. Tyler number seventy seven. You'll
recognize him a Ford. And you spent last year in Duseldorff, Germany.
Am I saying that right?
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Yeah? Duesseldorf.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
What was it like for you as far as playing
overseas and what was that experience like? And are you
welcoming coming back and playing in the AHL for the Griffins.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yeah, it was obviously very different, shorter season, bigger ice
surfaces over there, game style of hockey is very different.
Cool experience for myself was my first time over in Europe.
But it's time for me to come back. And obviously
I got lucky getting a contract here.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
When you look at this organization, you got drafted by
the Columbus Blue Jackets, You've spent time in the HL,
so you kind of know what that's about in Cleveland.
But the Griffins and the Red Wings. The red Wings
one of the original six and you grew up in Ontario.
Is that a little bit of a dream as far
as a connection to play for a team like that.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, I mean it's definitely cool being close to Toronto
there too with Toronto, but yeah, Detroit's a team that
I've grown up close to. Obviously playing four years in
the Ohl and winsor so that was kind of the
neighbor team right over the border there. So we got
to catch a lot of those Detroit games. It was
very interesting. But yeah, I mean, Detroit's a team that's
been here forever, so it'd be a cool team to
(01:39):
kind of get to play for.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Griffin's power play. Tyler Angle, newcomer joined us here on
the show, and Tyler, I don't know if teammates have
told you this or not, if the Griffins pre warned
you with Andrew with doing these interviews, but we like
to kind of go off script a little bit, so
I got to ask you noticing that you are from
and your birthplace was Niagara Falls, Ontario. Smitty, our co host,
her husband loves to fish. And the first thing that
(02:03):
I witnessed when I was there as a kid to
visit Niagara Falls was like, oh my gosh, how big
the falls are. But there were people in fishing boats
in the Niagara River above the falls. I'm like, dude,
your motor goes out. What are you gonna do? What
is the craziest thing you've seen there growing up there?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Honestly, we got the rapids boats down by the falls,
so they go through the rapids the water that goes
before the falls, and that's I've been on that and
that's pretty crazy too. It's just these big speed tug
boats pretty much that a bunch of tourists go on
and he just goes through the rapids of the water
of the falls. And that's one where if you fall
(02:43):
off that boat, there's no coming back.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
No exactly. I mean, can you imagine the people like,
I'm sure you've gone through the museums and stuff, but
that went over like barrels and stuff and the crazy.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah, that's uh. The funny story with that one. Actually, uh,
my best friend I know the family member of the
gentleman that did that, and he's actually a really nice guy,
really good guy. He's done a lot for me, so
it's cool to kind of know that side of the story,
from his side, from the person actually going over the falls.
But yeah, we also have tunnels behind the falls too,
(03:15):
so you can kind of check those things out. There's
a lot of things that are kind of hidden down
in Niagara. But being from Niagara Falls now, you don't
really get too too excited to seeing the falls because
you see it every day.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Absolutely, I've been in those tunnels he's talking about it
is crazy. So here in Grand Rapids, what do you
think of the crowds? What do you think of the experience?
And I mean I gotta ask you, have you ever
played on a team as good as this one with
the ten one start?
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yeah, I mean I've definitely never had this hot of
a season team wise. But playing in Cleveland for my
first four years pro, we obviously played the Griffins a lot,
so I kind of got to see what the fans
are like, and obviously they're pretty rallied. They're crazy. I
remember my last year in Cleveland here actually got a
penalty or we got a power play because the fans
(04:03):
were throwing pucks on ice. So that just shows how
passionate and exciting. The fans are here, who do you
think in your mind?
Speaker 2 (04:10):
And they're not listening, they're sleeping, right, But who do
you think is the most talented player on this Griffins
team as far as all the different things they can do?
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Oh geez, we got a lot of guys. I think
I couldn't tell you one. I think that's a good
reason why our records the way it is right now.
It's a team group here, a team effort here. So
I think there's a lot of skilled guys. There's a
lot of guys that have been up in Detroit now
is up and down getting their chances. But I think
it's a group effort here. And I honestly couldn't even
answer that question. There's so many good players in this
(04:41):
hockey team.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Griffin's on the road Rockford Wednesday, Charlotte Friday and Saturday,
and Van Edel Arena tickets are available available. Tyler Angle
with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Thank you so much for
coming on today.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Yeah, thank you for having me.
