Speaker 1 (00:00):
And this is West Michigan's Morning News. It's Steve Kelly
Laurence Smith. The FBI says it's discovered some more stuff
associated with the assassination of President Kennedy. This, by the way,
is something Rory O'Neil knows something about, ANBC News radio
national correspondent. Good morning, Hey, Good morning Toe. So this
kind of came up on the campaign trail. This is
(00:22):
something the President has talked about since he's been in office.
We're going to declassify things now, right, like UFOs and
assassination attempts.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Exactly, and not just the assassination of John F. Kennedy,
but also the killings of Robert F. Kennedy and doctor
Martin Luther King Junior. We're supposed to be getting all
that information released now. The FBI says, since it has
computerized its filing when it got the order from the
President to release all the related documents, a lot more
(00:51):
information popped up. Twenty four hundred new documents now, most
of them appear to be connected to the CIA, I
believe it or not.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Exactly what's in them, we don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Is there a takeaway here, a central theme, any idea
what we could be talking about are these bombshells or
are these just I don't know, another field agent who
filed a report that we didn't know about.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Probably more of the latter. Some of the experts say,
you know, lower your expectations. They're open to surprises, but
they're just saying, you know what, this may be a
whole lot of nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Wait and see.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
One thing they are curious about, though, is some of
these see what the CIA knew about Lee Harvey Oswald
before November of nineteen sixty three, specifically, six weeks before
the assassination. Oswald took a trip to Mexico City and
even went to the.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Soviet embassy there. What was going on with that? And
if the CIA knew.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
That, did they drop the ball when it came to
keeping tabs on him when he got back to the States.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
Well, we talked about a lot about the FBI part
of this. Do we see any future push back coming
from the CIA now that we're hearing some of their
documents involved?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah, probably not Again, we'll wait and see exactly what
is declassified.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
So the FBI found.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
These twenty four hundred documents and then they're turned them
over to authorities to be declassified, and that's where.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
The rub may come in here.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
You know, President Trump tried to declassify a lot of
this stuff during his first administration, but then decided to
hold back some documents citing national security. Let's see if
whatever is released eventually is actually available for all of
us to see, or if it's got a bunch of
those thick black lines.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Through yeah, or it's as disappointing as the whole UFO thing.
I mean, I thought we'd see something in Roswell. I
really did, all right, Well fora.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
John would have explained a lot or you anyway, if
we had found something there.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
But I have seen the movies. NBC News Radio National
correspondent Rory O'Neil, thank you.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Thanks thee
