Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's West Michigan's morning News Schmidty and for Steve, Kelly, Brett,
Bikita here as well. Worthy is seventy.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Two today baby Plus it's the final hour for us,
but it continues on with our great fundraiser today.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
That's right, gets food basket if you want to, head
to Woodradio dot com. But I don't know if there's
anyone more excited about the forecast today than our dear
Rick Feist with gardening simplified. Good morning, rig.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Oh, good morning, and yes the heat is on, Thank you,
very mulch.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
So talk to us because we've got a lot of
ground to cover here and today's getting everybody in the
mood to get their hands dirty.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Well you got it right, Lauren. And on this weekend show,
we're going to talk about ground covers. And the point
here is that you have to do your homework if
you're going to plant some groundcovers in your landscape, because
some of them can maybe get a little invasive and
grow where you don't want them to grow. And so
Stacey and I will talk you through it. We'll talk

(01:06):
about different types of groundcovers you can put in your landscape.
But groundcovers are important in somebody's yard and the landscape.
They cover a lot of ground and just like us,
you know, we do as as people. You know, it's
amazing how much we juggle in one day. And I
got to say, Lauren, I am just so proud of you.

(01:29):
I watch you doing the public address for the Grand
Rapids Rise, your work in social media. I'm just so
proud of you. You're You're amazing, and and Brett the
same for you. I want you to know I listened
to your high school broadcasts every week. You know, It's
been a long time since my kids have been in
high school. But it's just entertaining and fun. You guys

(01:52):
are a couple of talented people. Let me tell you, well,
thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Rick right back at you, and you know what I
want to go if you're okay with this, to something
that's near and dear to your heart. But I was
thinking to you today because for those who don't know,
Rick's got a beautiful home with his wife, and he's
proud to live in Miskegan County, right near the lake.
Shorty talks about that. So we're helping out, as you've
heard Miskegan County, especially with the kids' food basket expansion

(02:16):
there and they're excited about that feed the future. But
it's also about what we just heard from Bridget and
the fact of part of this is the education process
for kids to grow their own food right and to
nourise themselves. And that's right up the alley of what
you talk about with kids get into gardening.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Yeah, I heard you guys talking about that with Bridget,
and I think that that is just fantastic. You know,
you develop a skill for kids at an early age,
a love and an understanding for where plants come from,
and you know, it makes a huge impact. I have.

(02:53):
You know, fragrance is very important in the garden, and
there are studies that show that as a little kid,
if you take a big whiff of, for example, lilacs
or whatever, it's embedded in your brain for the rest
of your life. And the same applies to picking a
tomato off the vine. It's so important for those you know,
I call them young buds. I love that, and I

(03:16):
love the work that you guys are doing in kids'
food baskets. Such an important thing. That's that's just fantastic.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Well, we are ready to bring on spring tomorrow morning.
Gardening simplified. Rick Weiss is ready and raring to go
ground covering more. I hope that you enjoy today. I
know this is just your dream come true. And this
kind of beautiful weather crops up in March.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Huh. I'm so excited. I just wet my plant.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
I'll talk to you next Friday, good friend, have a
great weekend.
