Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is West Michigan's Morning News. Do you Kelly, Brett Kita,
Laurence Smith. It's time to talk weekend of Ben Smitty.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Well it's begun. I mean you guys with what two
weeks until Thanksgiving. Everyone's feeling that Christmas spirit and it
starts with elmcu Ballpark. So our friends at the Christmas
Light Show are back. If you've driven by, you've seen
it getting built. Technically opening night is not until that
Wednesday before Thanksgiving, but there's a couple of really cool
events that you can be a part of before it

(00:27):
opens to the public. And this is really cool. So
this is actually coming up Saturday. It's the Christmas Light
Show five k uh huh, so you get little calorie
burn before the Christmas cookies. You actually run the course
of this thing. It's really cool. They have it all
set up and lit up. It's beautiful, beautiful, beautiful six

(00:48):
thirty because they want it to be lit so that'll
be really fun.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah, and pitch black by six thirty.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
That's cool, right, thirty I wish we had that long.
And then the following day, on the sixteenth, it's the
Reindeer Bike Ride, so you can take the kids and
they can ride through the Christmas light show. So it's
all going down at LMCU Ballpark again both nights. So
if you want to make sure to get kind of
a bird's eye view or ground's eye view if you will,

(01:14):
of how cool that looks. I always think that's cool.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Our electric bike's legal, what's great. That's a great I
like everything about this except the exercises.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
No, no scooters, hoverboards, mopeds, skateboards, bikes.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
I'm just kidded.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Next year a motorcycle wins the Grand FUNDA No.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
That's hysterical. Good question though.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Oh yeah, what's the difference between an e bike and
a motorcycle?

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Well, right, neither one of them. Stop I think stop
signs downtown. I can tell you that.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
All of our pediatric emergency rooms have thanked you for
saying that. Yes, Christmas through Lowell is this weekend beautiful.
If you want to get some of that Christmas shopping done,
it's huge, the thirty third annual Christmas through Lowell. I
mean over magical businesses, locally made, They've got everything.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
I recommend you stop at the They have like a
little trailer where they have hot chocolate. That hot chocolate
is amazing, really.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Marsh Yum, that's Friday through Sunday, Riverwalk plazas where that
kicks off. This is so fun. If you would love
to head out to our Grand Rapid Civic Theater. It
is Frozen the musical. That is their big holiday show
and they have put so much work into this. So
opening night is tomorrow night, but there are shows through
December fourteenth, a really great Christmas gift grct dot org.

(02:37):
And then finally it's your last chance to see the Griffins,
I think for a week. They've got a week away
coming up. So tomorrow night they take on the Toronto
Marley's once again.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Then the Marleys will be ticked because they got beat
yesterday in overtime, and then they had just sit around
here in Grand Rapids right for a day.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
So I don't know, I wondered, Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
They can't go back to Toronto in the meantime, so
they're just going to be sitting around mad and there's no.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Skating rank outside, and you know, the.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Christmas Tree is not sorry Canada. Speaking of though, that
game yesterday, the Griffin's game was the biggest school game
in their history.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yep, eighty seven and eighty three fans.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
You could hear the kids shrieking from here.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
I can't wait for my son to start having those
field trips. I get it enough. At the Grand Rapids
Rise games, there's like four songs you'll play and they'll
just I mean the decibel is deafinitely.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Yeah, they go crazy, and I'd forgotten about it. At
about eleven o'clock, I was given a tour to friends
of mine and like, why am I hearing hockey? And
I forgot that it was going on in that station
down the hall that plays the sports.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah, ninety six won the game, by the way, you
should mention that from by the way, I wanted to
go to that game, and then I had something too
and I couldn't. They had like a record number to
Smity's point of students. I think it was over six thousand,
so that means another like twenty seven hundred were adults
and just fans, maybe third shifters that don't get a
chance to see him.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I don't know why anyone's working right now. It's the holiday,
I mean Wednesday at eleven am. That's awesome.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
