Speaker 1 (00:02):
We're in here talking and Sean and all that good
stuff with Boots and his guests as they leave, and
Joe Schmitz is joining me from Peak Retirement Planning and
services are group services.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Right, yeah, so peak retirement Planning.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
We have a group of people that we you know,
we have different types of services, but just one group
who we are just.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Peak retirement Planning period. And Joe, you're really good on
the radio, and I'm so excited to have time with you.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
You did this with me one time before. It's been
a few years ago. Yes, yes, and life changes, the
world changes.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
And here we are.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
No, I'm excited, me and McKay. I got a lot
of comments. So we're gonna talk a lot about that today,
I'm sure, and make it a fun conversation.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
We can't, we might will we bore people.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
We get excited about some of the same things.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
But I think it's pretty interesting.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
I think people will be excited, and I think they'll
learn a lot from what we say today, and we'll
keep it entertaining though.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
So Mindy was down in sunny Florida and I've texted
her a few times.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
They took down number sixteen, Missouri, which is where I.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Went to undergrad.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Oh yeah, and I.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
Was so proud of the girls. That was a great win.
And I think it was.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
I don't know if she would say that I'm wrong,
but she might. I thought it was fairly close between
was it Florida's state yesterday?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I didn't check the scores yesterday, but I know they're
playing well.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, so great place to be right now. What did
you think about this weather when you woke up this morning?
You're downtown right, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Up downtown?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
And real quick about Mendy, I got we had a
joke on her here a little bit. We can't just
go by and tell a joke about her. So I
was texting her over the last week, I think it
was it was, and I said, how's cam we doing?
She goes, ah, she's doing okay, she's batting five hundred,
you know, just average. I'm like, Mendy, whoever thinks it's
okay if you bat five hundred, like.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
That's really really good.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
It's really good.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
So it's just the standard she has. But obviously she's
very proud of what they're doing.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
So there was something cool that is so mindy and
she she kind of like speaking of like browsing by
something I sent her yesterday. Let me pull this up.
She's one of my pins on my iPhone. Quarter Cracks
is also approaching one hundred career RBI. Her two today,
which was on Friday, gave her ninety seven for her career.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Yeah, not bad. So at five.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Hundred and then close to one hundred career RBI, I mean, yeah,
come on, she's.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Had a heck of a career there, so and many's
been there all along the way, yelling and screaming at
every game, every game.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
You've been to a few, and I've been to a
few as well. So yeah, how did downtown look? I
haven't left my house until about thirty minutes ago.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, looks good.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Now roads are cleared now, so everything's pretty smooth. But
I mean it came down hard for about an hour,
and driving to church this morning was pretty rough. And
you know, coming back from church it wasn't too bad.
But going there about nine o'clock or so, yeah, the
roads were covered and you know, people were not sure
how to drive out there for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
I didn't take Christian too, I'm Catholic. I didn't take
him to PSR today, which is our version of Sunday
school right because it's in the country, and I was
a little nervous at that time. It was coming down
and it was towards it was ten o'clock this morning.
I was like, I don't think I'm going to take him.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Over there today. It's it's a lot. So do you
go to church downtown or do you go somewhere else?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
And I got somewhere else?
Speaker 3 (03:16):
And you know, as I drove on seventy one to
day and there was a few accidents on the on
the road and a semi actually like, you know, it
didn't it just kind of like I don't know how
you explain at the front end kind of went backwards.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Oh but anyways, it's like.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
A is that a jack knife?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
When that happens a jack knife? It didn't tip or anything,
but yeah, I guess probably call it a jack knife.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Where do you go to church?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
So I've gone so right now I'm kind of exploring
where I'm going now. And I used to go to
a small church up in Plaris and great church, great community,
but you know, a little older crowd. So I was wondering,
you know, starting to explore now looking for younger crowds.
So this morning, I went to two churches. I went
to Ethos and Rock City just to kind of experiment,
and I've got friends at both, so just kind of
seeing what's out there.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Yeah, which in Rock City has multiple campuses.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Right, Yeah, they're all over Columbus. They're probably one of
the bigger churches around town. Younger crowd, and very very energetic.
I would explain it that way.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
I am sometimes once a quarter and maybe a Catholic,
but I like variety too, Joe, and I like to
think and read and like about things. So once a
quarter I go with my good friend from work. I
go to her church, which is X Church out in Canal.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Have you heard of X.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Yes. I actually grew up actually going there, so my
parents still go there, no care. Yeah, because I'm out
in carolso Bloom and Carroll High School.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
And all that.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yeah you were, Yeah, but they used to be.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
In Lithopolis and I was going there since they were
in Lithopolis and they're great church and yeah, definitely some
good people.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
They're good leadership.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah. I really enjoyed their worship team, and I just
enjoy the messages when I go. So I'm open to
a good message wherever you get it on a Sunday
or a Saturday.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
In my world, since I'm Catholic, I'll do a.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Lot of podcasts. I know you're podcast person. I'll do sermons.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I'll watch sermons as a podcast, and you know, just
get fed from different speaker in different perspectives.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
So it's good.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Do you like Stephen Ferdick.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah, he's good. Some of his stuff.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
I'm not the biggest believer in, but you know, he
can preach the prosperity gospel a little bit too much.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
In my opinion, got it, okay, So I'm just very
aware of that. But he has some good stuff for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
I need to send you some of his like tough stuff. Yeah,
if you feel like he's more prosperity gospel, I know
what you mean because I've seen that from him. But
he can he can really kind of get down there
into the deep on some other things too.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
And I don't know how I discovered him.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I think somehow through a Bible study a few years ago.
Someone who was there told me about him. We actually
went to Easter Church. We were passing from my parents.
We had traveled. Is he in Charlotte? I think he's
in Charlotte, isn't he?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
I think so.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
And so the plan was on Easter Sunday, since we
were coming from my parents in Georgia, we would stop
and go to church at Elevation.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
So we tried to go to the campus.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
We tried to get there twenty minutes early and Joe,
the line was backed up for a mile, so we
ended up going. There was a satellite campus that was
super close to main campus, and so we ended up
going and it was very It was a moving experience.
I mean, they're a Grammy winning worship team, right, but yeah,
(06:21):
he has some really applicable stuff, but yeah, there is
some prosperity.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Gospel in there too, I would agree. All right, you
didn't come here to.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Talk religion today, and we didn't come to talk with you,
but you know, we are people of faith.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
So glad you guys are here.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
We have a lot going on today, and one of
the things we're gonna do is we're going to talk
a little bit about being single, because the guy.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Next to me is a single guy.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
In twenty twenty five, I have a producer that's single.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Back behind the glass.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Right now over here at the studio, Chris, I'm looking
at you, and so we're going to talk to Open
Arms Counseling about dating, and then I'm gonna have you
and callers chime in about this.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
I think this could be an interesting conversse.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
I thought I was going to get away from this
conversation without Mendy here, but I guess it's just getting
get more intense.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
She told me, She said, you need to have it.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
So we're going to talk with Anne Hurst with Open
Arms Counseling in the second hour about being single and
navigating it right now. And I know you've probably had
the conversation like this is what I'm looking for. Well,
I got the rundown about you. She yes, Mindy did
give me the rundown, but like it's different now than
when I was dating, you know, twenty five years ago.
(07:31):
So we're going to dig into that a little bit
for you and our.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Listeners as well.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
It's very different now.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, and get maybe some words from Ann on top
of that. Then we swing my direction for kids in
summer camp. So we're going to have the Contemporary Theater
of Ohio talk to us around four thirty five about
an option for summer camp that could be good for
your kids and you know, these kids.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Joe, sometimes you just got to pull them out of
their shell.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
They live in kind of this world, right if they
have any access to a device where I feel like
they text and they play on this screen, But like,
how do you get them out of their shelf?
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Theater is a good way to do it.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Any any activity like that, right, sports, whatever it may be.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
It's I think that stuff is so important.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Yeah, so we will have that conversation and then we're
going to talk to you not about just dating. You
own a very successful company and have done some incredible
things in Central Ohio with Peak Retirement. So how you
serve clients and what it's like to work with you guys.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Yeah, I mean we've gotten a lot of outreach, you know,
especially here lately about people wanting to work with us,
and you know, as we've grown and you know, I've
brought all the services all in one place for retirement planning.
So glad to you know, explain what that is and
who we work the best with and what that all
looks like.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
How long have you had this business?
Speaker 3 (08:53):
So I've been in the industry for nearly ten years now,
Peaks about I think just over four years old.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
Now and it's wild what you've done in four years.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
It's grown a lot.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
We're over twenty five team members now and we have
clients all across the country at this point.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
How many did you start? How many team members would
you start out with?
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Just me?
Speaker 2 (09:12):
And then my mom quit her job to come join.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
I love that. Sorry.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Then my buddy from fourth grade came and joined about
seven months in Okay, and when he joined, we really
started to take off. And then we had a bunch
of I have like five friends from college at work
with us. We've got other team members with family and friends,
and so it's a very very tight knit group.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
And when you get tight knit and you get a philosophy,
really great things happen.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
So I'm excited to talk to you about it.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
A servants heart and when you have a team of
people who are there for the servants heart versus you know,
just making money and just nine to five job, you
know they're in it for something bigger than himself. That's
why I think we've grown so much is because of
that high character, integrity and just doing the right thing.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
I haven't had a chance to talk to you about
this in a while, so I'm excited to have that conversation.
Chris is playing us to break. We got a lot
coming up, we got hot topic coming up. You know
what I think we should do for hot topics. I
think we should talk about the latest podcast situations and
the hot topics on our podcasts that we're listening to,
because I have one that kind of has dropped the
mic moment this past week.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
I don't know about you. Do you have something to
bring to the table. I love it. Okay, this is
what matters on sixtent at wtv N
