(00:02):
All right, looking for our hottopics. We do this every single week
at this time, and it's ourway of talking about things that you're talking
about. Maybe things that made headlinesaround the country are right here in Ohio.
A couple of things before we getto the graduation gift dilemma, what
you give and how that's changed throughthe years. A couple of things I

(00:22):
thought that we really needed to talkabout. Tina Turner dying at eighty three
years old. What a rock androll icon. People loved Tina Turner well.
And the fact that she was,you know, huge back in what
was it like the early sixties thatwas her moment with prad Mary, but
then in the eighties for her tomake the she was forty four years old
when she made that comeback, mindy, and the life that she led with

(00:44):
Ike, What a horrible human being. He treated her horribly? Why was
he never arrested with all the beatingsthat she suffered? You know, I
did not see What's Love Got toDo with It with Angela Basson. I
never saw the movie, but acouple of my coworkers says it's really good.
It is hard to watch at timestoo, because she went through so
much, so I thought we justhad to kind of pay tribute to Tina
Turner, so well loved and respectedthrough the years. Also, if anyone

(01:08):
wants to call in and comment witha huge eye opener for Target losing close
to nine or ten billion dollars inone week because of their display with pride
and transgender clothing, that now allthese Target stores have had to push those
displays to the back of their stores. That's been huge news. And the
other thing that made national headlines, that's happening right here and I passed it

(01:32):
when we were in Liming yesterday. The inmates who escaped from prison. One
is still on the run. Sowe were talking about that on Friday or
Thursday when I was at work.So who has been caught and who hasn't
been caught at this point. Thetwo escaped. One was a double murderer
convicted for killing two people, shootingthem in the head, a man and

(01:53):
a woman. He's the one who'sstill on the run, Bradley Gillespie.
The other one, it was threehundred pounds and he was wanted and convicted
for maybe some robberies and some safecracking. Well they captured him, but
he was three hundred pounds, sothey store a car and when they crashed

(02:13):
it, yeah, he ran away. They both ran, but they caught
the three hundred pound guy. He'sback in prison. But the scary thing
about this is they believed that thelast time they saw these two on surveillance
was early Monday morning, and thenthey didn't realize they were gone until Tuesday
morning eleven am. Now the weirdthing is that prison. My husband Randy

(02:36):
used to go in there and playsoftball and basketball with the inmates, and
he said, back then they werereally strict with headcounts and making sure everybody
was accounted for. But now theybelieve that these two inmates hopped into a
dumpster, a trash jump dumpster, and then escaped that way. But the
one still on the run. Doesthat make you a little leery when you
hear he could be armed and dangerous. He was convicted of two murders.

(03:00):
The last time they were seen wasdown in Kentucky. They say lock your
doors, I mean, stay safe. I think they're long gone from here,
right, You know that that wouldhave to be especially if they've been
seen down in Kentucky and on target. You know, it's interesting Marcus walked
in and talk to me about thata couple of weeks ago, and I
had not been into Target lately. And let me tell you, I have

(03:21):
friends that are gay. I meanI do, and I think everybody does.
We all do, we all do. And so I walked in and
I saw I think some of thetongue in cheek stuff took me by surprise.
There was a doormat, and Iwould wish I could remember what it
said, like gayest house on theblock or something like that. And so
I think he was talking about it, he was surprised that it was there.

(03:45):
I'm not saying that you shouldn't beproud and she shouldn't be who you
are. I just think it's alot to explain to kids, you know,
when you walk into that and theydon't. It's a conversation. You
don't expect to walk into Target andhave a conversation that's so deep with your
children when you really want to haveit on your own time and in your
own way. So I think Ilook at the Target situation like that.
But ten billion dollars, almost tenmillion dollars of revenue loss for Target in

(04:11):
one week. There was a videothat a man made from New York where
he was just going off at Target, and they were kind of like saying,
can you keep it down? He'slike, I'm allowed talker, but
he was basically, and you cann'tget mad at the people who work in
Target. They're not making these decisions. No, it's not right, right,
So you don't think a man wastelling them what happened when it was
Law Enforcement Week? Why didn't youhave a display off for law enforcement?

(04:32):
What about Veterans Day? You didn'thave a displayoff for Veterans Day? Why
are you doing this now when youhaven't done it before for other So is
that the comparison? I had notheard that part of it's a it's about
the point. Yeah, what arewe choosing and what are we trying to
teach our kids? Because they werehaving children's clothing and bathing suits where you

(04:55):
could hide and tuck, so youcan't tell whether it's the guy in the
suit or girl in the suit. And so a lot of well a lot
of people have been boycotting. Imean, when you go to the extreme
of announcing that we have to drawback a little bit, We're gonna take
these displays and move them to theback of the stores and you have a
revenue loss of nearly ten billion dollarsin a week. That's major. That's

(05:17):
his major and Hilliard. It's stillup in the front though. I was
literally just in Target probably within thelast day or two because it crowded in
there. I'm looking curious. Itwas normal, but nobody was really in
that section. But it's right atthe front, so no, it had
not been moved. But very interestingand definitely a hot topic. Graduation also
a hot topic. And yeah, how much do you get when you don't

(05:39):
really know the kid but you knowtheir parents? Six one four eight two
one nine eight six six one foureight two one WTV And Mindy, I
called you because I needed help becausea dear friend is the mom and the
girl baby sat for us for alittle while and then didn't. So how
much do you get? And that'swhat I called you to act. I

(06:00):
didn't know. Okay, look atit like this, and every case is
different, and I think a lotof it does depend on how well you
know the graduate or the family. Now, when Randy was a high school
basketball coach and a dean of students, you came across so many students through
the years, and obviously basketball playerswanted coach to be at their graduation.

(06:20):
Now, think of all the otherstudents too that we love Coach K.
We love mister K. So wewould have to go to a lot of
graduation parties. So I think whenyou're doing that, you know, an
estimated twenty five bucks is fine.I think now when it's closer, people
give forty fifty dollars. So wasI right to give twenty five? Now?
I feel like maybe I was onthe cheap? No, I think.

(06:41):
And when's the last time you talkedto this young girl? It's oh,
two years, three years. Ithink twenty five is fine. I
really do, I really do.Why didn't she continue babysitting? She didn't
want to babysit anymore. I wouldhave give it her too, maybe two
dollars fifty cents. Yeah, shejust was kind of done with it.
And she's had her own journey ina high school and so it was one

(07:03):
of those things that I was like, oh, okay, well, I
love your mom, and your mom'sa dear friend of mine and former neighbor,
so hopefully you know I did theright thing. But yeah, I
think it's I mean I don't remembergetting I got a lot of money from
my aunts and uncles, but that'sspending no, twenty five, twenty four
years ago. I didn't really getit to right. Oh yeah, people

(07:27):
have to do you feel callers thatyou have to give more because everything else
is so much more expensive? Ijust don't know. I mean I think
that forty fifty dollars is a lot. I think, what do you give
for weddings? Oh, so likefifty bucks? But if I really know
the couple, like one hundred dollarsand I'll do or a gift that's worth
a hundred dollars. I think itis about that closeness factor to two point

(07:49):
and especially, oh my gosh,if you guys were given twenty five dollars
left and right when Randy, Yeah, you were broke towards the end of
the school year when you had todo that, Wait, we'd go broke.
We're like, ah, graduation seasonto a savings account for graduation season
and high school educating? Nah?Are we crazy? Are we on point?
Or no? When we come tohow much we're talking about giving folks

(08:13):
for graduation, I would say youguys are pretty close to being that's pretty
much accurate. As for me.I know a specific example. I had
a neighbor who I live, who'sexactly across the street from me. I
watched her dogs all the time, like me and her are very close.
She gave me fifty dollars for graduation. I was like, yeah, she

(08:33):
knows me, But if you don'tknow the kid, then it's kind of
like I don't feel like I wouldexpect a gift from someone that I don't
know personally. You know very well? Okay, yeah, well, mindy
validated by the more recent grad Itis trio that sary this afternoon, but
you know what kind of Cameron justgraduated, you know? And then they
definitely it varied. I think itjust varied with people. Yeah, well,

(08:56):
