Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're dead air. Are we back?

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Oh, we're back.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hot MIC's, Hot mikes, Hot mics and hot topics. Here's
what we're talking about today. Are you ready for my
hot topic?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I am I because you told me it's Is it gross?
It's I think it is okay.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
You will die when you hear we experienced. Oh no.
So got to spend a lot of time with my
son Kylin because you know, as a good brother, he
wanted to go and support Cammi in the Big Ten tournament.
So he rode with Kylin or with Randy and me.
We're all driving from Ohio to Purdue to watch the game.
And I'm I'm looking at Kai and and he and
I've noticed this for a while now, the last few

(00:35):
times he comes home and he's got this like nicotine
patch thing in his between his lower lipt and his gum. Yes,
Kylon's never smoked, He's not a smoker. People use these
to get off of smoking cigarettes.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
We've talked about these before. I knew that he had
at one time tried these, Yes, like the zen the zen.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yes, what he's doing now it's called on and it's
basically a nicotine patch. I'm like, kay, how often do
you do this?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Every day? Like a couple times a day. I'm like what,
I'm like, I don't think this is good. I don't
think this is a good thing because I think they
can be very addictive. So I wanted to know. I
wanted to know what my son is putting into his body.
I'm like, give me one. I want to know what
you're experiencing every day of your life with.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
These little miss So you said, hand one over.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
He's like, no, Mom, I don't think that's a good idea.
And Randy's like, oh, just go ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
If she wants, you know, if she wants to do it,
let her try it.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Here's the problem. I hadn't eaten. We're in a car,
I didn't sleep well the night before. I put this
nicotine patch, this on thing in my mouth. Normally things
don't really affect me. It just doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
And I can attest to that, Folcus. Normally things do
not affect mindy.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
So this thing is in my mouth. It didn't take
long before my head started to basically spin. I was
getting overheated. I thought I was gonna puke. I had
to take this thing out. Kylon's in the backs recording me.
He thinks this is the funniest thing. Randy's like, are
you okay? I'm like, no, I'm not. And Kindle's like,
first of all, we're in a car. You should never

(02:07):
have done this in a car. I'm like, well, you
gave it to me. He's like, well you did.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
He have it in his mouth in the car.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yeah. But he's like, you've never done this before. He's like,
juive up a tolerance, Mikayla. I've never experienced something like
that in my life. Like, and I will have my cocktails.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah. I think it's different because when you have one cocktail,
two cocktails, three cocktails, you can control when you're starting
to feel a little bit. Okay, you cut yourself off. Yeah,
there was no cutting off. I had to take this
thing out of my mouth and then it lasted. I
can't believe he's doing this every day. And he's like,
does it didn't affect me? Mom?

Speaker 2 (02:41):
It just you know what does it do for him?

Speaker 1 (02:43):
It catches like a little buzz without drinking or anything.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Is it bad for you?

Speaker 1 (02:49):
I looked up all this stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
I want you find out.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
That it can be very addictive, It can cause heart problems,
It can cause brain problems if you do this all
the time. And you know, he looks at it like, Man,
I come home and you're laying into me. I'm like,
what kind of a mom would I be if I
didn't tell you how I feel about.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
This and the research and the data that's out there
that I'm seeing.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Now. His excuse is, listen, there's no carcinogens or whatever
in it. Yeah, so it's not like you're inhaling all
of this bad stuff and it's supposed to be healthier.
But he never smoked. The people use these to get
themselves off of smoking cigarettes to break a habit.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Why doesn't he just drink coffee? Because I feel like
nicotine and coffee. And again, I have not been a
smoke or not that I haven't ever smoked, but I've
never consistently, Yes, I mean like in college and maybe
a little bit after newscast, you know, when I was
in Illinois. I mean I couldn't. I couldn't. I couldn't inhale. Really,

(03:48):
I'm not Bill Clinton. I could not.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Well, I never inhaled.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I had trouble inhaling a cigarette until I was in college.
And that's when I learned how to do it. But
I've what I'm trying to say is nicotine and caffeine,
don't they have some of the same. I don't be effects.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
I don't know. I've never been a smoker. I've never
been a coffee drinker, so I don't know. All I
know is as a mom, this bothers the crap out
of me that he's doing this. Randy's so nonchalant. He
doesn't say anything. He doesn't say anything. He's like, he's
gonna go back to strong as girl. Do you think
he's gonna listen to you and.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Not do this?

Speaker 1 (04:26):
I mean, I worry he is just not being addictive.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
I mean he could drink those aren't even good for you.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
What are the does even drink about?

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Well, I wasn't even thinking alcohol, and alcohol is not
something that energizes you, right, like alcohol, Like you're you're
kind of lower with alcohol. I'm thinking about like the
Alani's or what is the thing that's so popular that
I won't know that. YouTuber Logan Paul, who's about Kai's age,
does like, there are these drinks with a lot of
caffeine out there and they're not even that great energy drinks. Yeah,

(04:55):
but I mean, I would think that would be better
than a nicotine.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
I know that gum It has to change his mood
a little bit, because he does seem like he's in
a better mood when he's got these nicotine patches in
his mouth. I don't think you should be doing them
every day.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
I Prime, Yes, thank you for whoever wrote that, if
it was Ashley or Chris, Yeah, Prime, that's.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
My hot topic. First of all, if you would have
seen my reaction after having this thing in my mouth.
We told Cammy that I did that. She's like, no,
you didn't, Mom, I can't believe you did that.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
I'm in the car.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
I wanted to see what he was experiencing, right. I
didn't want to do this for the fun of it.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
You just wanted to know.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
And now I'm even more worried.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
You guys, if you know anything about zen or on
six one four eight two one WTV and six one
four eight two one nine eight eighty six, tell Mindy
some more about what you know about it.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Or not or not.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
I think you should.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
No, I want to hear it, but he won't listen.
He won't listen to me. I can send him article
after article after article. I doubt I'll even read it.
There's a difference between boys and girls on Mother's Day,
and we were talking about that too, Mikayla, we were there.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Isn't Yeah, well, well we'll talk about that more later.
So my hot topic is as a Catholic, oh from Illinois.
I was really emotional about this situation as I was
watching and waiting to see who was coming. When the
white smoke came, I knew, oh, okay, great, but I
got really emotional when I found out that this guy

(06:18):
is from Chicago.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
So what are your hopes for the new You know.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
I hear that he's also very progressive when it comes
to social justice.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
I heard that thing. He's very champion of George Floyd
and the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
With so he and I. You know, it's hard because
I am I have a background in many of you
two where you want to help the poor and the underprivilege.
You know, some people have a really tough lot in
light life, and I think that's one of the things
I love about Catholicism. But we have some very specific
beliefs right about like the death penalty and abortion within.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Like the last Pope came down on immigration. He was
okay with same sex marriage. You know, Randy's family was
very staunch Catholic and they didn't like the form of pope.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
But I think Leo, what's interesting is he went to
Villanova for school. He was four years behind Gail Hogan's
husband of Villanova.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Do they know each other?

Speaker 2 (07:16):
You know, I was trying to gauge that from her post.
I think actually Colleen posted something and it showed up
on my feed, and then Gail was like, you know,
he was there when the pope was there, and he's
known as a guy like he spent a portion of
his life in Chicago. Chicagoans are going to be insufferable
by the way. They are going to be like so
proud about this. But I never thought there would be
an American pope. Technically he is an American pope, so

(07:39):
I was pretty emotional. I'm curious what he does. I
hope he does what needs to be done in the
Catholic Church.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Do you think popes should branch into politics. Do you
think they should make a statement about certain political issues.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
I think the ways that it happens is what it
has to do with certain groups of people. So if
a pope feels that marginalized people are being hurt, They're
going to speak out. I know that he really took
up jd Vance on something within the last few weeks.
I'm familiar with that tweet. So, I mean it's not

(08:15):
a political position, but based on the things that we
talk about within the Catholic Church, you end up talking
about these things.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
So your high hopes we have about thirty seconds ten seconds,
what is what for this new post.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
I think my high hopes are there are a lot
of Catholics who feel that they have lost their way
from the church, and then there are those people like
me who are really invested in what we're doing. I
hope for peace. I hope that he has a message
of peace. I hope he has a slight influence on
what's going on in the world. I know not everyone

(08:50):
may agree with him, but maybe he can do something
to further hope and peace.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Time will tell.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Time will tell.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
He's going to get an opportunity. But it is cool
to have an American pope. It is.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
I mean, I think it's a little weird that Poor
Tillo's in Chicago has the Leo sub that they have
just created. I mean, that's fun. The memes have been
the memes have been out there like dup hope with
the Bears, you know in the Jersey.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
You haven't seen any of.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
That, So with it, Yeah, I'll be really And he
has a brother who's really supportive and is like over
there with him right now. He also is from Chicago
and he came over so yeah, let's see what happens.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
All right, guys, mental health, it is real. Perhaps you've
dealt with it in your own family and your own life.
We're going to have an entire conversation because there's some
changes that could be coming for the better.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Yes, Saint Vincent Family Services here. Next, this is
