Speaker 1 (00:00):
Honor and so glad to have Londa and Rick burnetto
in studio. You guys are going to be gilt us
like regulars anymore. We love seeing your faces same here and.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I love thinking about all that you have going on
at Valley Dale as we get into the holiday season.
I literally was just booking stuff for my family the
other night and thinking it's time to figure out, like
one entertainment and holiday things you want to do right now?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Great, We're going to start with this Friday. How's that
that sounds great?
Speaker 4 (00:28):
We'll do a little bit right Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
So we have Honor Flight, So they went on their
owner flight voyage last week, and that's why we're doing
our big Veterans Day this week because the Honor Flight
and the Vets, we all give them a free entrance
to Vali Dale because we want to support them and
remember our family members that were veterans. And Rick has
kind of a cool plan for the show.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
Well, We've we've got two singers that we'll be doing
a lot of patriotic music for the show. Both see
Lorie Everhart and Michael Phillips will be singing. We're doing
some you know, some of the standard things like, God
bless the USA and America the beautiful.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
And you're doing Neil Diamonds America.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
You gotta save that one for last week unless that
you want the crowd to get going. It's so cool.
So why do this for our veterans?
Speaker 3 (01:23):
First of all, Well, we've all had veterans in our
families and friends, and we're America and America needs to
remember America. And yeah, it's just us at Little Valleydale Ballroom.
We don't have the big bucks behind us or supporters
or sponsors. It's us and we want to give back
just like everyone else does.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
That's awesome, Londa, that's a beautiful way of looking at it.
So who all can come?
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Here?
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Is it? Anybody can go?
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Anybody? It's this Friday, our regular Friday Night says we
always have and many times we have themes. So this
is our Veterans Day theme again. We did this last
year with on our flight. I called them back in
July or August to say are we ready to do
this again? And yes, and next year Rick and I
are going to go on the inner flight with the vets.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Have you've done that?
Speaker 3 (02:08):
We've never done it. We're going to do it.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
I haven't, but it was all over my feed this
last week. I knew people who went and that's why.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Okay, for the year.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Did you see Boots when you were coming in? You know, he's.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Absolutely I heard him speaking about it also, and I've
known that too that he was.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
I think it's great. It's a way to give back
and what's more important than giving back to it? Absolutely? Well,
that's not all you have going on there, lady.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Then we go into what Ohio State?
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Come on?
Speaker 3 (02:36):
What's great? Well there is, Mindy. Let me explain it
to you because I know you known little about State University,
just a little bit. But it's that beat execond dance
that we have. So so that's what we're doing with
the Buckeyes. And it's so fun because we have a DJ.
Spanky is there. I'm the Rick pernetto Big Band and
(03:00):
they alternate sets. And the cool thing about the Bernano
Big Bian and especially this adorable man here is he
is a percussionist drummer, so when he does that cadence,
it's real and he just.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Does that their house State fights with the ramp cadence
and the whole deal.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
So that's so cool.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
So cool.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
I mean, you need to come to pay for that.
That's and we all are doing fifteen dollars that night.
We want people to come in. Each year, We've been
doing it since I'm twenty nineteen, and each year builds
up and this we've well over one hundred and twenty
one hundred and thirty reservations so far. I know it's
a big night.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I have a question in terms of who can come,
as you know, a mom of teenagers, if I wanted
to is it family friendly? What age do you have
to be to come to Valleydale for one of these
On a fright, it.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Can be pregnant, they can be you can be pregnant,
they can be zero, right right, that's it. Just come
on in because we want the younger generation always so
that they start to remember the valley Dale. And that's
what works when you have your prom there. Look at
Mindy had a Wendy wedding wedding there, Wendy wedding.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Wedding down there. Yeah April.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
But how wait wait, wait wait wait, how do you
remember that date? I don't even remember that date because
that was.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
The night of your party. I remember a lot of things,
just good memory.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Guess our anniversary I'm like, wait, is right for Oh,
that's the beautiful thing about valley Dale. If you're listening
right now and you have never been to the valley Dale,
you truly don't know what you're missing. Yes, I got
married there, But let me tell you something. That's the
smallest name that's performed or been part of the valley Dale.
(04:43):
You've had some big name people from years ago. We
were talking about earlier in the show What People Miss.
We're talking about the Frank Sinatras, the Dean Martin's all
were there.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Everyone was there, Glenn Miller was there. So many of
the big bands. We don't want to forget people like
Fitty sent We don't want to get Icontina the Destiny.
But Beyonce was there. Yes, there's so many artists that
were there as well as the birds. You know, it's
just so much fun. How many of our rock artists
(05:16):
were there, Hermann's, Hermits, the Four Seasons, Frankie Valley Rick
loved so much he was there, Velt Underground, the Velvet
Underground recorded an album there.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
So there's more to talk about on your calendar.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
But I want to ask you a question that you
kind of guys have brought up from the last segment.
You were talking about all these great bands that were
coming to Columbus, not just at Valley Jale, but at
other places.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
In general in general.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
What happened to that that sounds like such an amazing
time in Columbus.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Did the music industry just change and it looks a
little different now or.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
What was the deal they cut happy hour? They cut
When they started to cut happy hours and the prices,
then that's when everything started to fade because they didn't
want people drinking or driving. You know, there's a reason
for that. The drunk drivers. We get all that, but
that was the beginning of we better not start to
have this entertainment. So that d.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Correlation the drinking wants to.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
The beginning of the dismantling of that. And the musicians.
You can't ever say that the musicians and all of
these clubs charged too much, because the musicians are probably
one of the fairest people in the entire world. They
will play for ten bucks, a dollar, you know, fifty dollars,
whatever it might, because they wanted to play in the
clubs to the people.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Well, happy hour came back and now it's boring, Yes,
right exists now but.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
I mean when you have this beat Ischigan dance, I'm
sure it's decked out and scarlet and gray. Oh yeah,
and people come. They don't have to get dressed up
and their suits and everything. You can wear your buck eye.
You wear your buck eye.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
We have a competition, have you do We have where
your best scarlet and gray and wear your worst Mason blue.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
We have an eight foot Brutus we built up.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Yeah, fun, we blow him up. He's there in the
outcol where you were, where you were sitting as a
beautiful bride. Well, Brutus will be there on eleven and
November twenty.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Eighth, So that takes us right after obviously Thanksgiving and
into the big game.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
But the holidays are going to be.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Really special too, So tell us a little bit of
aughts on your calendar for December.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Okay, we have the Woman's Course Sundaycember seventh at Christmas Show.
We also have the Singing buck Eyes, wonderful men, fabulous
vocalists on December the thirteenth, so that's really a cool
Saturday night. Then we go into the Rick Brunetto Big
Band on December nineteenth, and that's the Rick Brunetto Winter
Wonderland Show and it's marvelous that has all four of
(07:43):
our singers. Rick has some cool arrangements anything.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Yeah, it's just big band Christmas music, you know. So
it's this time of the year where we pull all
these beautiful arrangements of Christmas music done with the full
orchestra and having four fabulous singers there that night who
all sing and they sing together in separate. It's just
a wonderful Christmas show. So we do that every year.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
We are actually doing appetizers this year, so if anybody
but that's a good little a little cuderie board would
be on your table, or for two it's for two.
So that's kind of fun, a little bit different things.
And then the big night of the year after that,
the entire Christmas build up.
Speaker 6 (08:20):
Is New Year's Eve.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Of course, that's fun. You do this every year, the
Year's Eve party every year.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Yeah, so it's again with a DJ Spanky Rick bernetdo
big band seventy nine dollars ticket with dinner and wither
with dinner and how much is a ticket dollars?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
I might have to do that for New Years.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
It's very fine, you know.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
And we were talking in the commercial break. One of
my co workers, Mary Lee Melendez's part of your band now, yes,
but Rick, you said, she's really changed your band a
little bit.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
She has you know, of course we do all the
big band standards you're from, Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra and
all that, but Maria Lee's has us doing things for
Madonna Dell.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Did you ever think you would do that?
Speaker 6 (09:03):
Not really, but wouldn't do it for Meand.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
You know, we get to play all this contemporary stuff
and and she's such a fabulous singer and she just
is and the people love her.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
They love her.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
All our singers, Lucas who's just marvelous, Laurie everheid As,
Ricka said Michael Phillips. We have and what's so cool
is each one of our singers completely different genre. So
it's not like, Okay, that sounded like last week's set.
It is not. And that's the beauty of the Rick
Bernana Big Band. Every Friday night.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Why when we listen to Londa and we're watching Londa
and you can watch Londa too because we're on Facebook Life,
Oh seems like performing. I mean you, why are you
not on stage?
Speaker 6 (09:44):
She actually she is.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
She has this segment during the second set where she
does a little a little history lesson in the Vallydale Ballroom.
Every week she has another story from from when Frank
Sinatra was there and because she wrote a book she
did yeah, and so people look forward to that segment.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
It's like a seven minute segment.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
Every Friday, she goes up and tells her stories and
she does a great job with it.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
It puts on music for me.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Her theme song is the Lucy Theme.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Think about it.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
You know, you guys are so much fun, But you
know what, that's a couple that really people should look
up to and admire. And we spent the whole first
hour talking about what people miss, the restaurants that are gone,
the grocery stoes, the feeling of when we were growing
up as kids, the way people are growing up now.
I hope that we never have to miss the Valley
Dale because it has stayed in that same location for
(10:40):
how many years?
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Nineteen nineteen nineteen.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
People who don't know where it is, where it is.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
It's right on Sunbury Road. It's literally, like I'm going
to say, two minutes from Ohio Dominican and probably another
nine minutes to Easton to full Sunbury Road. And uh,
it's just very very special. People don't realize it because
it's built underground. Right, People walk drive by and they go,
(11:09):
what is that a bowling out? So deceiving get it
all the time. I thought this was a bowling eye.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Why did you decide to build it underground?
Speaker 3 (11:16):
I think, well, if you look at the old plans
and the photographs, it was already on the tilt. So
the driveway down that was like that before the building
was ever built, because it was a stagecoach stop. So
there's much of that going on with that.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
I didn't know that. Yeah, so much history there. Have
you ever been inside of the valley? Do? Because I
know you were out of town when we had anniversaries.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
So bummed.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
I think that was spring break for the kids or
something like that. I'm not, and I'm kind of surprised.
I mean, it is on the opposite side of town,
but I get everywhere, so it doesn't really matter.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Year z e you Marcus Randy me. Maybe either that or.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Like let's go for like some Christmas shows and I'll
bring the kids because I feel like.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
She didn't want to be around me New Years.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
That's said no, no, told Craig Cray on New Years
Craig cray.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
By New Year's you could have just stopped, you could cry.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
But I really do think it'd be great to take
the boys to see it in action because.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
It is part of central Ohio history. Think of a
building that's been around since nineteen nineteen, and not just that.
When you walk into the Valleydale, there's so many pictures
of the performers who were there, so you can spend
a great deal of time.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
It's a museum.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Oh my gosh, they were here.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
They were on that stage that we had an uber
driver that just dropped off a couple Friday night. They
come every week. They're wonderful. Uh. And they had the
uber driver come in this time because they were inquisitive.
The person came in and started to cry because I
never saw anything like that. They were from They were
from Kenya, and to walk into America and to go
(12:49):
to the Valleydale Bottroom, one of the last five in
the country, and to see the lights and the band
and the music. They were taken back because she said,
I've never seen anything like this in my life.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
This beauty girl, should you just say one of the
last five?
Speaker 3 (13:03):
And then in America, absolute last time of what the ballroom.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
So was valley Dale built on a model of other
ballrooms that were built across America a little bit.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
But it was rebuilt by Frank Daily from New Jersey,
Joey with the meadow Brook Ballroom. So when he took
over to run things this is now now one thirty
years later, nineteen forty one, he made it look more
like the meadow Brook Ballroom. So if you pull that up,
the Meadowrook Ballroom and you come to Valleydale, you're like wow.
(13:34):
Because in the old days they had a balcony that
was literally one row, so that people would pay ten
cents and stand in the balcony and look over. You
couldn't dance.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
So this is a stand standard, one of the last
standalone ballrooms in the country, one.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Of the last two that have been working daily since
nineteen nineteen. Some of them were closed for years and
years and remodeled. We have not. We've been closed for
months at a time. And I'm like, three times in
in these one hundred and six.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Years, Solanda, you listed off so much stuff. I'm sure
our listeners are like, wait, wait, what is there a
place they can go and get all the events. That way,
they can just go one stop shop and they can
get it all.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Absolutely the Validale Ballroom website, which is Validale Ballroom dot com.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Okay, that's where.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
It all is.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
You go ahead.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
No, I'm just going to say, can we give away?
We can take a break and then maybe giveaway tickets
to give away.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
Rick.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
No, you can't give away, Rick. I mean I agree
with that, you get a little break.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
So why don't we do to the buck Eye?
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (14:42):
Absolutely, Okay, let's do it.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
So six one four two one nine eight eight six
six one four.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
A two one at w TVN.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Call in for a chance to win tickets to the
beat Ischigan Dance at.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
The Valley Dale. Very good.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Yes, this is what matters on good So, Lisa, I
mean we're we're feeling giving to or I should say
Londa's feeling giving and Rick.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
That's right. They're always so giving and it's like almost Thanksgiving.
So we're thankful to be giving. How's that?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Can I take michaela.
Speaker 7 (15:09):
Super excited about this?
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Is this? Lisa?
Speaker 7 (15:12):
Yes it is, Lisa.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Tell us why you're super excited. I can hear it
in your voice.
Speaker 7 (15:18):
I can remember going there, oh years and years ago,
and one of our closest friends again years and years ago,
also had their reception there. I haven't been there for years,
but no, I mean to be able to go back
(15:39):
and have a reason and you know, for the beat, Ischigan,
I'm looking forward to it all.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Okay, So Wanda, what do you want her to do?
Just give our producer what do you need? An email,
a phone number.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
An email and phone and movie. Fine, and I'll just
text her info.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Okay, Lisa, give our producer you just talked to on
the phone, give her your email, cell phone. Might as
well do the whole works, and you are going to
the eat. No, the beat is she getting?
Speaker 4 (16:07):
I mean, we.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Hope we will. Hopefully we'll get his job done this year.
But you know what, you just gotta do one thing, Lisa.
You gotta wear scarlet and gray.
Speaker 7 (16:16):
Okay, oh, definitely done.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
But Teresa, we're glad that you held on the line,
because everybody's a winner here, Michayla. Tell them just Teresa
what she wins.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Teresa, are you ready to go to the Valley Dale
some tickets?
Speaker 4 (16:31):
As we get into the holiday season.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
I think we scared her off, Teresa, are you there still?
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Teresa?
Speaker 3 (16:40):
You're gone.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Oh my gosh, Teresa, Teresa, if you can call back
in six because.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
You were going to give away tickets to the Friday
You always have something going on Friday.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Right every Friday night, the Rick Brnetta Big Band plays.
We invite everyone.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Okay, so Teresa call back. We'll hook you up all right.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Thank you so much on the energy that you and
Rick bring and the gem that you have here is
just really amazing.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
We love the building. We went to America, Columbus to
see it again and enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Somebody named Gary really wants to see it and enjoy
it again.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Oh okay, Gary, you're on the line with us right now. Gary, Gary,
are you there?
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Gary Indiana?
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Gary Indian, Gary Indiana, Cary, Indiana, Gary Indiana.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Are you there?
Speaker 5 (17:31):
Gary?
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Are you there? Why are we having phone issues?
Speaker 2 (17:35):
We are obviously not coming to sing at the Valley.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
We can do let us something. You could back up.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
One more time, Gary, are you there? We really want
to give you these tickets. Okay, well, no he's not,
obviously he's not. Garary for the next.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
For the next segment.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Oh sorry, Londa, were so funny, but landa, thank you, Rick,
Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
You can still come to the valley.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
And I'm gonna say, bon journal, Yes, yeah, because last
time they were in you were getting ready to go
to Italy and they were telling you what to do,
and they said wear comfortable.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Shoes, and and I did it.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
I mean, the comfortable shoes are the only way to
go when you're walking eighteen.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Thousand steps a day.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
And all these other people.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
The former producer of Mindy and Eyes is over there
right now, Liz Lane is over there. She might be
flying home this weekend. I feel like I said, oh,
you know who went? Kelly Hall just went? Do you
remember you know Kelly Hall?
Speaker 1 (18:43):
One call Kelly called Kelly Hall, her and Braddick. He
was everywhere.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
I didn't know they traveled that much internationally Florida. I
knew that, but like she was like, I mean it's
cold in Italy right now. It's really like, yes, it
is cool. Everybody had on their jeans and their sweatshirts.
It really has taken a change. But yes, thank you
for all your advice.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
It was amazing.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
So was it as good as what you thought? Because
these guys know Italy for sure?
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Yeah, you said you want to go back very soon. Yes,
you would like to go back.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Oh, yes, I'd like to go to the southern part
Colabria sicily all of that.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
It was exactly what they said.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
And I just like looked at my husband on the
couch this morning before the boys got.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Up, and you know, we're drinking our coffee, watching a.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Little bit boys before I was just ving and I
was like, you know what, I really miss it.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
I think about going back. My Go's what I said
to him.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
I said, I know we're broke from our trip, but
at the same time, I'm like, I really want to
go back. There's something about it.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
I don't know. He says.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
The people are really good people and they actually want
you there. That's what he said this morning, unlike America
sometimes when you don't feel like maybe you're wanted somewhere.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
I totally disagree with that. Come to Indian Lake, we
want everybody. Well, okay, is the most friendliest, inviting everybody.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
Yeah they want to share that. Yeah, rick on, they are.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
They're about family and culture and food and mindy. It's
just kind of sad because we kind of not like
that here.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
I see, I disagree.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
Because we're melting pot. I am GANI at though.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
I'm saying that about Italy. I'm half Italian, but I'm
saying America, we're pretty welcoming. We're pretty we want you
to experience things here too, especially why stay football.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
I'm looking at Mandy like, I don't know where you're
hanging out, but Indiana Indian, Yes, and their pockets. But
it's just wait till you go, Just just wait till Okay.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Maybe I'll be preaching a different choiring a different.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Thing, might be like, can I get a little Italy
back at home, just a little bit, just you have
a little Italy Indian lake in your own way, though
I agree with that.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
You guys are amazing. Thank you so much for coming
