(00:03):
Garage. Willie Bee's Garage is nowopen. Man oh man, man,
man, man, what a sweetSaturday. We got so much nicer than
what yesterday was. Big weekend hopefully, so Welcome to Willie's Garage scoop behind
the wheels. Mike Pettiford in thehouse, ad justin Mike as we speak,
(00:24):
what's up? And uh, youknow it's truly will we be we
Uh we got a pretty cool showtoday. Man, anxious get it wrong
because you can tell like today, like springs just around the corner. Oh
yeah, it's getting close. Thinkabout motorcycle oh a little too. Yeah,
it's close though. I didn't mindgo dead. Unfortunately, I try
(00:48):
to hit it the other day andstart it and it's like verver and I'm
like, day, yeah, Iplugged money in so they don't do that.
Yeah, I thought I was keybeing up online enough, you know,
just taking around sub division once awhile. But oh well, gonna
get their thing all lid off.Well, you get those old batteries in
(01:10):
motorcycles, and man, they don'tthey don't last that long. Damn they
don't last long. Period. Thisis a new battery. Hell oh yeah,
yeah, they just don't last long. It would help if I wrote
it more, all right, Solook, man, today we've got a
few things on deck. We're talkingabout the most critical tool in your arsenal,
(01:30):
Like if you had to think andkind of rumble through the pages,
the drawers, the cabinets, theyou know, all these tools you got
receipts for. What do you thinkis the most important? And it's not
the torque wrench, although that iscritical. That would be my vote.
But I already know the answer becausewe talked funny for the show. So
(01:53):
I've been working on my Camaro.I got this little LS three, little
super charge LS three Camaro that wasin the fire that was far a couple
of years ago. Yeah, wecall it burnt toast. So I'm doing
a cam swap. Me and myboy Chris, we're doing a cam swap.
And you know, you know whoBrian Tooley is. I have him
(02:14):
on the show once in a while. He's a good buddy, so I
connected with him. I thought,y'all listen to this. I thought something
was up with the DoD system onthe car because it runs on six cylinders,
not eight, And I'm like, what's wrong with this thing? So
on the scanner on the diagnostics machine, it says that the DoD stuff is
(02:36):
on right, so it says thatit's continuing and no matter what, whether
you take it off inside the HPtuner program. Because there's ways that you
could shut off a displacement on demandunder control on your computer. Basically,
for example, you could do itrpm ran, so anything over you know,
(02:57):
ninety rpm you shut the DD off. One little trick you could do
in the system. Another thing isjust going there and turned the damn thing
off. Well, none of thoseworked. It still kept killing it and
saying on the scanner that was aDoD issue. A displacement on demand,
which is something that Chevrolet puts intheir vehicles similar to variable vial displacement.
(03:21):
Each manufacturer has a little bit differentkind of name or you know, way
they do it, but it's themeans of taking a you know, a
V eight and eight cylinder down toa six cylinder and increase in the fuel
efficiency. So all of their fleetsstaying up to this, you know,
these rules and rags set by thefederal government. So they're okay systems for
what they do. But here's thecounterpoint. They consistently fail regardless of which
(03:49):
one is making it, which manufacturersbringing it to the table, They always
always become just a just a pointof failure, and traditionally when they fail,
it's an ugly fail, like liftersblown apart. When I tore the
car apart, Me and Chris,we were pulling a cam shaft out.
(04:11):
You gotta put it there, Matttoo, and We're all kind of late
sitting there and I'm pulling a camshaft out. And at first it's weird
because we got in the car andfound that the DoD stuff was was already
gone, was already replaced with theDoD de lead. So I'm like,
well, that's odd, so maybeI'll check the lifters. So I went
in and some of the lifters hadstarted. You know, when we talked
(04:35):
to Brian Tooley and he said thatabout ninety five to ninety eight percent of
the manufacturers that make camshafts they usedthe same stick. And then they'll pull
this stick out and they'll grind thestick to whatever respect it is LS one,
L two, L three, youknow, big head, small,
keep it gains whatever you may need. Right, they'll they'll grind it off
(04:57):
this one core. But the problemwith that is, some grind will get
through the heat treatment because there's onlyabout three I think it's a three thousands
or so of heat treatment, andsometimes when they grind it, they shortened
the depth of the heat treatment onthe cam. I think that's actually what
happened. Man. I a coupleof camshaft lobes that were just pore up.
(05:19):
It was like, oh, that'sprobably the problem. I don't know
how that was shut down the cylinder, but it was. Yeah, it
was ugly, so I think itwas the lifters. But I got this
Brian to the upgrade. So workingon that again, all courtesy of my
(05:41):
my scanner. And that's what we'regonna be talking about today, the scanner,
the diagnostic tool that you have.Who makes one that's affordable, because
look, these things go huge inprice. Yeah, Like if you go
a lot of people freak out onwhat it costs to get a repair done
nowaday And look, I do notdisagree. It is insane what people are
(06:03):
charging for normal routine maintenance. AndI feel bad for everybody because it is
painful to see some of these thesecharges. However, something you ought to
know behind the scenes. A gooddiagnostics machine for most shots in most you
(06:24):
know as certified texts. They're gonnawant a really good one, meaning one
that's got the ability to hook upwith what's called all tel, one that
has solutions to the problem that you'refacing. So like, for example,
me, I got a bosh Adssix twenty five I think it is.
So it's a very in depth sortof diagnostics machine. I couldn't afford this
(06:47):
if I were to go buy it. You know, relationships to everything in
life, man, remember that theyreally are. I was just happy to
be really good friends with women ofBosch guys, and he was at if
I had a scanner, He's like, I must send you one. And
that's what he sent me was abosh Ads you know, six twenty five.
And if you were to go buythat just off the shelf, seven
(07:09):
thousand dollars, whoa, yeah,it's crazy. So today, how do
you get one that's affordable? Howdo you get one that is is capable
of doing everything you want to doto it? Now, obviously you can
go down to you know, HarborFreight and pick up the cheap and cheap
and it sometimes will allow you toyou know, the most common thing people
(07:30):
are trying to do with their diagnosticsmachine to be honest, clear engine codes,
I know what's up, I knowwhat you do and you know,
and to its credit, it cando that in some cases, you know,
you're looking at eighty bucks or somethingsixty bucks for their their little cheapo
version. But it really it's gotnot much, not not a lot after
that, whereas like you know, mine and what the company we're gonna talk
(07:56):
today launch. These things are amazingnowadays because not only are the are the
software programs and the and the meansto get in and communicate with you know,
all these vehicles. Not only isit, you know, something that's
just unbelievable nowadays to be able tohave that functionality in the diagnostics machine,
but the find one that's affordable, man, forget about it. I've got
(08:20):
the little cheap ones. So Igot one of those times mine. It's
so small that when it gives youthe diagnostic you can't even read all the
words scrolling it scrolls. That's right, funny. Well, we're gonna have
a guest done from launching in justa second. Uh. Pay attention if
you're looking for, you know,a really good diagnostics machine, at least
(08:41):
when it does a lot of theyou know, crazy stuff we needed to
do nowadays. Man, he's uh, he's got a good solution. I
met him, you know, monthsago down in Florida when I was doing
this this Federated Auto Parts gig,and I've been wanting to get him on
since. So glad to have himon next And this is really cool.
Go to launch. I think it'slaunch. I want to be right and
(09:03):
where is Where is he out ofI think he's on the Pacific coast.
He's probably in California. In California. Yeah, go to launch TECHUSA dot
com. Launch Tech USA dot com. You'll see some of the equipment and
some of the stuff. I'm gonnabe kind of talking about that, all
right. Nine to oh seven oh, let's stretch out Refield the coffee pop
(09:26):
your back coming back with diagnose crapman. So want seven nine kvpi?
Will be garage Willibee's garage. You'reback in Willybee's garage. Just want to
seven nine kvpi with bees garage.Maybe this is a rest right here,
yo, rush there ah, yeah, this is hurriy What up, bro?
(09:52):
Perfect timing. We just got backon the air. Yeah, man,
welcome to the show, buddy,Hey, thanks for taking them in
to catch us up. So wewere talking kind of before the break to
me anyway, diagnostic machines nowadays arethe most critical. Like when you go
(10:13):
into the shop, the first thingthey're gonna do, especially you know,
if you're pulling up with the youknow, automotive store. Some parts stores
do it. Some you know canadoson I think checks it. But if
you have a check engine light, you want to know what the hell's going
on. And having a tool thatcan talk to your car, your vehicle,
explain what's going on, and youknow, maybe even provide some help
(10:35):
as to how to fix it orhow to get the repair salt man.
What a game change of that isfor so many people a lot of times,
you know, think about all theother ways before these computers would talk
to each other that we would diagnose, you know, a car, and
there's weird things you would do.Man, if you have if you've got
(10:56):
a good way to find out, look at the intake leak right or vacuum
leak it's taken like car cleaner andjust have the car running, running and
just just hose it down man withsome car cleaner and see where the RPM
jumps and there you go, there'sthe leak. You know it's wild because
there's some goofy things right, oryou know, you bounce up some time,
(11:16):
and you'd have to have a dioor a way to get in it
and see if it made differences, made it more efficient. You could read
plugs and you know, go throughall these older type ways to diagnose what
your car is doing. But youknow because you have these systems that are
now talking to each other. Forthose that don't know, for example,
(11:37):
you'll hear a lot when you gointo shops about oh well, the O
two centser said this. Normally ina car there's a you know, a
preimposed O two censor, so it'sreading, it's sniffing, you know,
what the car is pulling in,and it's sniffing what the car is pushing
out. When you think about anengine, there's nothing more than really an
air pump. So you can seepre combined what you have is your mixture
(12:01):
lean, rich, you know, anything like that, and you can see
afterwards, you know, if there'sleftover gas or you know it's not it's
burning too rich or too lean.It talks to itself and can adjust on
the fly, which is really cool, right versus the old way of you
know, I don't know, changingout your carburetor, rejetting it or reading
(12:24):
the plugs. Everything's kind of rightthere and the palm of your hand if
you know how to get the data, well, nothing is more critical than
these these scanners that allow you toopen up basically the notebook of your car
and talk to it. Let theengine, let the computer, let all
the systems that monitor themselves explain toyou what's going on. And when they
(12:48):
can do that, guess what thepath to fix it? Instead of just
throwing parts at it. Man,all of a sudden, you have a
clear sort of means to get theissue resolved. So that's really why I
think. And you know, maybeyou could, maybe you could, you
know, give your opinion, ButI think, as a scanner and have
(13:11):
the ability to open up the carsnetworks and talk to and find out what's
going on by far the most criticaltill in anybody's shop or garage. Absolutely
well, Willy, you know afterthat, there, you know, I
could see why your listeners tune inevery morning. You know, you got
your guy that covers all the bases. I don't think there's much for me
to add, but you hit iton the nail so I will see this.
(13:39):
Like, you know, growing upin San Diego, California, my
family was an order of fair businessand come from the days where the customer
pulls up and pops the hood andyou know, in front of the shop
there and the mechanic with our technicianwith his cigarette in his mouth's sprayed.
Some car raider spears listening to somecustomer complaint of you know, if they're
I'm not getting a throttle or youknow they powered you know, et cetera,
(14:03):
et cetera. But those days arelong gone, because you know,
we're in the age of all cars. Cars are like mini networks computer networks.
Every car has like so many differentcontrol modules on them, and those
control modules are housed on something calleda can bus network. And the network
(14:24):
houses all these modules in it relaysdata, sends data, and receives data.
So every part of the car isrunning optimally right, So when something
is off, that's when the warninglights get triggered, like a check engine
light, abs lights, traction control. There are numerous warning lights. So
(14:45):
once you're in that in that domainand terrain of the warning lights. You
know, you're definitely going to needto take your car to a professional,
independent automotive repair shop and that hasa bidirectional professional scan tool. And basically
the scan tool is gonna One ofthe news features on our launch scantool is
(15:05):
something called topology. So as soonas we connect the car with our launch
scantol, we're able to identify allthe different control modules that the car has
and which one is giving a fault. And that's just beginning. Yeah,
so now we have to enter thatmodule. So let's say the engine control
uh, the ECM engine computer ishaving a fault. We can enter in
(15:26):
there and we can identify to seewhat's the code, like if we have
a PO three oh three, whichis a still in the three miss fire.
So so as we go deeper intoyeah, but then here's here's the
crust of the matter, a coupleof like up to five to five to
ten years ago. The scan toolis not is not new on the block.
(15:50):
It's beIN around. But guys wouldjust take that PO three oh three
code and then they will start well, uh, calling for the service side
to the counter guide to order somespark plugs, order order an engine coil
or order a fuel injection, andwe're just gonna build to the customer right
right, right right, So thatthat those days are also long gone because
(16:14):
customers and car owners are extremely sophisticatedto have many reaches such as the Willie
b Show to tune in and youknow, get the greatest information. So
the knowledge of the average car owneris a little more astute now, so
that therefore the shops and technicians arerequired to kind of get more evidence,
sure, just to justify replacing apart, right, identifying not only that
(16:38):
man, just the cost of serviceand repairs. I mean, let's all
be let's be open and honest. It's exploded in the last three to four
years. It is unbelievable, Likeno, I do that car so Christmas
program and yeah, I'll see. This year was a good example. A
woman Anna, she had a jeep, an order jeep and cherro key.
(17:00):
This thing was on his last legand she had to get so the engines
running rough, transmission slipping, buther brakes were just shot. She had
no breaks so and the ball jointswe were shot. So she goes in
and she's on a really tight budget, so she goes in and the shop
that she went into just a regularshop, you know, I think it
(17:23):
was like a god was like abig o or a less Schwab or something.
Anyway, four thousand dollars four grand, four grand, dude, And
I'm like, wow, we dothat to every cardis to Christmas, like
every one of them. Well notso everyone of Donny Ball joints, but
I will tell you the majority ofthem do. So to think about what
(17:45):
her repair costs, and when youget into just slinging parts at it,
all of that has just exploded inthe cost of it, so repairs that
normally. You know, a fewyears ago, my boy Scoop who runs
the program here, he went inand had breaks done. Had a shop
that was you know that we werereally good friends with, and they quoted
in like something just just for likefront breaks. They wouldn't for anything more
(18:10):
than front breaks. Was it wasit a whole break job. And this
is like four years ago. Therewas a couple of things, but the
whole package together was like four grand. It was like, what, no
way, it's insane. It's insane, yeah the least. So this is
the age we live in, right, So so back to the scan fool
that is like kind of the mainelements on the scan fool. Also,
(18:36):
you're able to communicate with the differentcontrol modules and receive data something called live
data. So, for example,if a car car owner is complaining that
you know, well only in themorning it does this, but you know,
throughout the day it's fine, andwhen they bring it into the shop
they camp seemed to reproduce the problem. Then they released cars to the customer
(19:00):
and you know, sure enough he'sback a couple of weeks complaining of the
same issue. Right, a hardstart or you know, a sputter.
So what's what's happening there is that'sreferred to as the intermittent faults, right,
Yeah, So that's going to requiremaybe some Oscillo SCUPE testing or like
electrical waveform testing where you're you're hookingup to the brottle sensor and kind of
(19:23):
looking at it in milliseconds and differenttime intervals and seeing where it's uh it's
spiking or where it's losing voltage, and there you have it. That's your
evidence. Yess. Extremely complex stuff. Cars are extremely because a complex in
terms of the sensors and the technologythat's on them today. And you know,
as we all know what you know, technology is never perfect. Yeah,
(19:45):
so I've got a question for you. What is what is the difference
between one of your launch tools anda typical like scanner that you'd find at
a dealership. Okay, so that'sa big question. I've got a lot
of answers. Yeah, So okay, start with one. Guess, give
(20:07):
me an example, throw a throwattermanufacturer that you're kind of Okay, So
the Chevy dealership is going to havetheir OEM software. Basically, when Chevrolet
made the car, all the engineersand that worked on the car, they
documented all the processes. They they'reyou know, they're the manufacturers of that
(20:30):
car, so they have the gatewayand they have all the processes and the
manuals and the data charts and theflow charts. So they interpret that into
their own tool, which is referredto as the OEM scan tool. So
every deal dealer will have their ownOEM scan tool that they're technicians and use
it the dealerships. Our scan toolsare aftermarket scan tools. We make scan
(20:52):
tools for the independent shops and inAmerica. So basically, as the after
market scan tool manufacturer, we gatherall the data from all the different OEMs,
and we developed that on our platform. So that Chevy tool has been
basically just limited to Chevrolets, right, and the BMW tool is going to
(21:14):
be limited to BMW's. As thedealership, you would have all of the
information that the Chevy tool would have, plus like other manufacturers as well.
Yeah. Well, I won't saywe'll have all of the information because we're
like an aftermarket scan tool, butyou know we will have clothes to five
percent. Yeah. So, andthe added bonus is you'll also be able
(21:41):
to diagnose and work on a BMWon a Mercedes, on Honda on our
tool. Sweet. We got totake a quick break more with Launch what
you do in favor. During thebreak, go to launch TECHUSA dot com
see some of the tools and equipmentwe're talking about. What's wild is here's
(22:02):
an opportunity. Not a lot oftimes I think you find a quality tool
that's you know, still in theaffordable range, especially when you're looking at
what these things you know, costs, shops and dealerships and all that stuff.
We'll get into some of that onthe way back. Getting the special
sort of a company tools you mayneed, whether or not they do things
that You're gonna want to have theability to you know, do like cylinder
(22:23):
cutout tests. You know, thingslike that are really helpful when you're working
or you know, wrenching on acar. Obviously you want to you know,
the ability to reset things. Youknow, simple things like you know,
oil change. You know, youknow how poss up and says,
oh your oils whatever percent but allthat stuff. Yeah, you wanted to
be able to clear those codes. But you want it to be able to
(22:47):
do a lot more too. Andthe ability to help you diagnose problems,
issues or concerns. So more withthat and what Launch is doing to address
it. Here into the second wouldbe his garage. We're back out of
the breaks. Have an I mKVP I Willy Bee's garage. You're back
(23:07):
in Willybe's garage. Hey whatever youguys, will it Bees Garage. Welcome
to your Saturday morning. Thanks spendingsome time, y'all oof weather like this
makes you want to dust off theold hot rod and I say hot ride,
but you know on mean modern muscle, old school, new school,
don't matter or kid, just belike me. Man hell is man.
It is so hard nowadays because everything'sso damn fast. It doesn't matter what's
(23:30):
episode. I had just super rudetrying to jump me the other day.
Uh in my Catillac. I waslike, all right, bitch, let's
row. The other day man,I was like, coming to work and
you have four or five in themorning, but you know, this Mustang
g T five hundred rolls up onme and he comes up on me.
I'm the second to far left lane. You all know how this is right,
You're you're not a left lane,but you're in the warm beside it.
(23:52):
And all of a sudden some huckleberryrolls up. He's like, oh,
you know he's gotta jumping in rpm. He's right at that sweet spot
when he comes up inside of youand he gets you a little. Yeah.
Well, what are you supposed todo in that situation? What I
mean? Hey, you know anda lot of these people think they have
(24:15):
fast cars, and you know me, I'm an educator, So let's let's
find out. Yeah, so painful, Like what you got to open a
highway? Nobody ahead? It's fourpoint fifty in the morning. How do
you not? How do you not? Who can keep from that? Yep?
So you guys check out your homeworkassignment there during the break launch tech
(24:37):
USA dot com. We have Harishaunand I will tell you, man,
this cool cody because think about theDIY guy, because you know that's me.
I feel like that's the majority ofyou. It's it's tough because to
get the type scanner, you feellike you need to do all the stuff
you need, you know, toplay with modern cars now or really any
(24:59):
cars left two decades, especially whenyou're looking at increasing power, just diagnosing
problems, just finding issues, problemsyou know that you could fix, versus
taking it to a shop and payingsome ungodly price. This is something that
can truly help you. And look, I use my buddy Sam as a
perfect example. Sam did some maintenanceon his truck this this week, so
(25:21):
he had to check in, like, come on, I put my scanner
on it and it says it's thewastegates sylnoid for his F two fifty.
All right, now, you youwould have been throwing parts of that thing
all day if you didn't have ascanner, right, But I said,
okay, here's what you do.Go look all the connections around your wastegates
sylnoid. I believe it's vacuum operatedor has some vacuum lines, make sure
(25:44):
you know those things are connected, and then simply google wastegates selenoid on a
twenty twelve f two fifty whatever itis, right, and then you can
see exactly where it's at. They'llbe helpful videos to show you how to
do it. Probably one of themsome moron, it doesn't know what he's
doing, but the majority of itwill be legit. You'll see by the
number of views against. But here'sa way. If you have one of
(26:10):
these tools. Think about the moneyyou can save. Now. This is
something you don't have to be intimidatedwith by or intimidated buy nowadays because a
lot of times being able to getonline and see, hey, wastecate cylinod
here it is. This is whereit's located. Oh, all I gotta
do is remove this little panel bythe battery trade. It's right there,
(26:30):
and I just to Phillip heads screwsand I can get it out and I
unplugging with vacu you plug another onein at the shop. They charge you
four hundred dollars to that right, four hundred easy, easy, And it
takes thirty minutes to do. Andthe only way you would know to do
this and in the end you wouldsave yourself that much money is by getting
(26:51):
your own scan tool. So that'swhy I encourage you. If you can
find one that take a deep breath, that's affordable, right, and you
find one I could help you diagnosethese problems. I think really in that
combination, you have a home run. And that's why I encourage us.
Why I want you go check itout, go to launch Tech USA.
I really feel like this is whereHarish and launched. This company has really
(27:15):
kind of placed their card and thisis the this is who they really want
to help, the people like youand I, the DIY guys in our
garage. True or false, harishe? Absolutely true? Absolutely true, one
hundred percent true. Really, hereat Launch we have an extensive portfolio.
We don't only make can fools manufacturerscan fools for the professional technician with all
(27:37):
the SE certifications in the shop.We have to make it for the guy,
the weekend warrior, the guy that'sworking that. Like Willy you said
at that one conference that I wasat that you know, this is therapy
for a lot of people, right, Yeah, absolutely, so for the
weekend warrior, for the car enthusiastthat you know, banging his head on
his desk job and his only reliefis looking forward to Saturday and Sunday when
(28:00):
he's dropping that motor out, youknow, when he's boring that block you
know, on that engenail on hison his beloved project. So we have
scan tools for that for that personalso, and that will be referred to
kind of like a di y.And we also have some scan tools that
are not professional, but they're onestep below the professional bi directional scan tools
(28:25):
that will do a lot. Actuallyreally you can even read data on them.
You're able to you're able to dosome programming or bidirectional functionality. So
the core philosophy we have here atlaunch is we don't want to We want
to give away all the functions wecan on our tools to help people basically
(28:45):
right, yes, issues, yeahman, and so walk us through.
We'll get into some other stuff thatyou guys have or at least you know
can go find at Launch Tech USA. But do you do you have things
they allow you to you know, cylinder cutout testing, you know, different
(29:06):
things obviously some maintenance like reset stuff, but do you have some some things
that will allow people to get inand you know, help sort of find
or solve that problem, least somepath to fix it. Yeah. Absolutely,
So two things you described there likecylinder testing that's a little more like
high level is that fire kind ofyou know, looking into the data stream
(29:30):
and kind of doing some analysis. So those that feature and functionality will be
on our X four thirty one.Scancel anything with an X for thirty one
we have about that's that's our professionalline. Okay. So we have the
Throttle three, which is a bigthirteen point three in screen, two hundred
and fifty six gigabytes of memory. It's a gliath, So that will be
(29:52):
for like you know shots right right, yeah, okay. In that line.
Also we have also as you godown that line, we have a
little handheld one. It's the sizeof an iPad. It's called the Turbo
three. So that does everything withthe Throttle three does. It's just you
know, less memory, and it'sit's the screen is smaller and it's a
little more handheld. But one oneline below the export thirty one line is
(30:18):
a line I would like the listenersto pay attention. It's called Millennium.
We have the Millennium Master the MillenniumMax. And those are not professional tools,
but they are actually very formidable andI think they would fit for like
the DIY person on the weekend, you know that's kind of working on their
cars and they need to kind oftap into the different modules and look at
some data and do oil resets, all right, and the Millennium thirty.
(30:44):
Dude, I can't Millium master,the Millenium Master. I can't believe all
the stuff you guys, got it? Yeah, And then you know,
as we go down into the simplecode readers that everyone should have, you
know, in their glove box, because you know, will sometimes like you'll
go to a gas station and youknow this and you and you'll put gas
(31:07):
and you won't tighten your gas capenough. Yeah, man, crazy right,
Yeah, and what happens you geta code? It's crazy. And
look this is one of the waysagain shops will straight rip you off.
Oh look on a scanner, thisno joke. On a scanner, it
will tell you you got an indepth scanner. It will tell you,
hey, gas caps loose, youknow, like but but this again where
(31:30):
shops, Well, if you haveone of these tools, that is why
I say, look it, itmay cost a little bit right out of
the gate. But the money yousave down the road is tenfold what you
pay for the scanner because stupid repairslike that they just drag you for and
guess what why they're there. Ijust had a buddy this week. He
goes in, he had a hustleof got a old change. They come
(31:52):
back and they told him, oh, man, your brake pads are urgently
low, urgently low. They're like, I don't even know about driving a
home. And he's like, no, I'm good, I'll go do breaks
myself. He gets it home. There was half the bad left, half
the bad, so he wasn't evenmaking the squeally noise. Yeah, make
(32:14):
the squeally noise we have. Yeah. So in that scenario, Willy,
you hit it on the nail. That So what if there was a millennium
actual code reader in that glove boxthat would have solved that problem, right,
Yeah. It would have just beenable to go in there identify that
the code that that would lead youto the gas cap and you'd be like,
(32:34):
oh, yeah, I didn't tightthat, you know, and you
have uh tear that code and you'reon your waist. So in those situations,
I think every car corner. Youknow, we're in the age of
free information, right everyone, everyconsumer is entitled, you know, to
have some knowledge about like you know, the car they're driving, the products
they're using, and they're entitled tothat. So a cod code reader in
(32:57):
the glove box is fair game,I think Willy Lily absolutely and really a
necessity to work on cars and atleast understand what's going on with your car,
because there is several times that checkengine light comes on. You may
get bad gas, you may getyou know, a loose gas cat,
you may have you know, somesort of contaminant in the fuel, or
you know how it is. Sometimesyou just get ugly gas. Well you
(33:17):
may throw a code. For somepeople, that's a panic, right,
oh my god, check engine light. Ah Well, wouldn't it be nice
to know exactly what's going on becausethere's sometimes where that check engine light comes
on. Look, that means likeyou need to stop driving a damn car
now and fix what's wrong with it. Other times, look, you can
get Bayot driving all day and what'sthe diagnostics? Nowaday is in your necks?
(33:42):
A hundred bucks? Yeah, yeah, at least at least Yeah,
So in that situation when the loosegas cap, that's one hundred dollars.
One hundred dollars you tightening clear rightright? Yeah, you know, tell
me about one hundred and thirty ninenowadays, it's crazy. Now, what
are the what are the price rangesof the scanners that you have? Where
(34:04):
do they go from? And I'msure you have some really great ones that
are I just jumped. I'm ontheir website. They got it. I
wish I would have known this before. I just bought one for the foundation
and cars to Christmas, but theygot uh. Injector cleaners. Y'all need
to check out. This is probablyfor and I'm speaking for the guys that
do a lot of cars, thatdo a lot of tune ups or whatever.
Probably another tool that I think isjust critical for us repairing all these
(34:28):
older cars and giving them to needyfamilies. We have found that a fuel
injection cleaning machine and a fuel injectorcleaning thing with the Ultra soiund we have
found that to be such a valuabletool as well. Put it Christmas lit
for you got it? Uh?These look these smaller like be it the
Millennium Max, the Millennium thirty anythinglike that that you can really find resolving
(34:53):
a lot of the problems you're gonnaface or deal with as a DIY guy.
Where do those start out at?Well, as the manufacturer, we
don't sell directly to the consumers. You'll have to go through one of our
distributors. So on the website.Uh, we have a list of distributors,
so anyone can kind of go onthe distributors the website and then we'll
(35:14):
get uh price pricing. Yeah,so we don't tell directly to the consumer.
We go through our models more likedistributors. Sure, well, so
find out get online at that launchTech USA, find a distributor in your
ballpark, because man, these areso valuable and man, down the road,
it's going to help you tremendously.And look, I just don't I'm
(35:36):
tired of people calling me and gettingripped off. To be honest, like,
obviously, I'm a car guy.So during the week, me and
Scoop just doing a regular nine tofive in here, We'll be taking calls
and weird goofy stories about you know, hey, tell us lafe oftime,
stubbs your toe and some dude willcall up. Go, man, I
got a twenty you know, seventeenMercedes and throws his check ins like,
I can't do this, got thiscode? What can you fix it?
(35:59):
So I look, I try mybest to take care as many of you
as possible, but this is thisis a great way to get access to
what's wrong with your ride and beable to fix it yourself. Because the
amount of money shops charge nowadays.Look, and I understand shops, they're
they're fighting what's coming against them too, man, They believe me, They're
(36:21):
they're paying more for everything as welltoo. It sucks. But the shops
that have, you know, havethe ability to just whack you in ahead,
you know, with just massive, you know, big bills for things
that you all could do and feelconfident in doing. I think let's take
that power away from them. Iskeep that money and you're all his hands.
And this is an easy way todo that and a smart way to
(36:44):
do that. Besides scanning tools andobviously what I just saw in the injector
cleaners, what else do you guyshave, real fast, before we run
out of time, give us kindof a rundown of what else? Launches
is actively pursuing as far as cooland helpful things that we can find in
shops and garages. Right, Soa number of new technologies. The main
(37:06):
one is aid ASS and that's youknow, we could do a whole show
on that next time. We'll it'sgonna it's referred to as Advanced Driver Assistant
Systems. And this is camera, your backup camera. You're laying departure warnings.
That's basically a safety system that's onevery type of car nowadays, on
a Nissan. I'll come on,I'll tell you the camera. So we're
(37:28):
in that sphere of aid ASS calibrationequipment which works with our tools. I'm
reading this, I'm reading this thingnow, this aid ASS mobile plus WHOA.
So you're gonna be able to provideall that safety and all that calibration
on cars that didn't have this fromthe factory. No, diagnose it,
(37:51):
Yeah, diagnose it and recalibrate itbecause someone you know, when you if
you park, like let's say yourcar has a ASS on it, right,
Like, you have sensors and abumper and stuff, and someone bumps
a shopping cart during Christmas time atthe mall into it. That could that
could throw your sensors and your calibrationsystem out of whack, and now you're
going it's going to trigger a checkengine light and you're going to need to
(38:14):
go recalibrate that at a dealer ora collision shop. So it's it's it's
it's a new segment in the market, and everyone's you know, because every
manufacturer has their process and every manufacturerhas their own requirements and their steps to
recalibrate. So we're in that spacefor a few companies that have invested a
(38:35):
lot of R and D. Wehave equipment. A lot of collision shops
are using our equipment, a lotof glass shops are using our equipment.
So it's the next it's you know, it's it's the next business that's cool,
yeah, school, So that's sothat's one of the technologies that we're
in. We're also in a TPMssector. We're coming out with some new
TPMs tools. Tire pressure monitoring systemsare the biggest like point of failure ever
(39:01):
ever. It is an absolute jokefrom the factory. Everybody knows that stupid
symbol in your dash, that thingsucks. The majority of them feil all
the time. You get one tirechange it. You know, discount or
whatever. Near TPMs stuff is garbagebecause people don't realize the environment those living
(39:22):
those man. And I will tellyou this. A quick indicator on your
vehicle that the ECM is going thefirst light is gonna start throwing, right,
is that TPMs monitoring system. Andit can freak your car out if
you're doing performance driving, that theactive handling can just go crazy. Yeah.
(39:45):
So yeah, TPMs Lily is anotherbig thing. And like I said,
we could do you know, youcan book me for the next I'll
be for the next couple of months. Man, TBMs sucks. Oh it
sucks, man, what but youknow what it's It is a valuable system
when it's where Yeah, yeah,it'll help. Yeah yeah. And then
(40:06):
and then the last one I want. Thing I wanted to talk about in
terms of cool tools is we havebattery diagnostics and we have a product called
the bs T three sixty. Andremember I just talked about that glove box.
Yeah. So it's basically a positiveand a negative battery clamp that's wireless
and it's Bluetooth and it can fitin your glovebox. It lays weighs less
(40:28):
than two pounds two and a halfpounds and basically that can integrate with any
Launch Export thirty one scan tool,or if you don't have a scan tool,
you can integrate it with your Androidphone or your iPhone and you can
perform in an instant battery test, the health of your battery, your alternator,
an alternator test, and a startertest, so basically a full charging
(40:51):
system test. Yeah. Cool, and the report will be right on your
iPhone. You can email it,you can you can save it. So
yeah, that's another one of ourhot sellers. It's called the BSD three
sixty. We really do a lotof R and D into battery testing and
by battery diagnostics, so crazy.Yeah, so that's another cool product,
and I think I can give youa price point on that one. That's
(41:12):
the one around one hundred bucks retail, so you can find it. And
to answer a question from earlier listeners, can find any Launch products at any
AutoZone, o'reiley and NAPA online,JB tools, those are some of our
distributors. You would just go intothose retail outlets and just ask for them,
you know, for any Launch productsand they pull it up on the
(41:37):
pig. Oh, there's plenty ofauto zones around here, all right,
man, really cool stuff. Ifyou're interested in more, check out their
website launch tech USA dot com.Launch tech usa dot com. H really
valuable stuff. And look, obviouslynowadays, you know it's weird. I'm
(41:57):
kind of into paradox. I gota lot of old school stuff, but
I got a lot of new schoolstuff too. There is no way the
old school stuff. It's funny becauseas a kid, I looked at it
and go, wow, this seemsfairly complex. Now just laugh because it
is so rudimentary to you know,to tune an old school car. These
newer cars, man, dude, these tools are must have, especially when
(42:22):
you're able to, you know, get in and allow the systems to tell
you and point you in the directionof the repair versus just slinging parts at
it. So it's, man,it saves a lot of time and a
lot of money. So really valuable, especially for US DIY guys and weaken
warriors. If you're a you know, a step above, if you have,
(42:42):
like you know, me, sixmonths out of the year, it's
like a shot. Me and theguys are wrenching cars for Christmas. Uh
doing that and the other six months, you know, is more my stuff.
So obviously you know, depending onwhere you're at, how many cars
you got coming through. Uh,pick one that works for you. But
these things big time help and aneasy look. They're available at all the
autopart stores that we all go to. So that was something you want to
(43:05):
check out this weekend, next weekend. But huge help in diagnosing any problems.
So really cool, Harish uh man, super glad that we were able
to get you on and uh,just thanks again for the time. Man,
We do a lot of it.Nice to meet you man, Nice
to meet you too, buddy. You guys have a great weekend. Yeah,
man, you too. Let's takea break. Its Willy Be's garage.
(43:29):
Back in just a minute on sevennine KVP I Willy Be's garage.
You're back in Willyb's garage. Wellsome guys will be Saturday morning. Glad
to be here, will the Bee'sgarage. Mike Pettiford, go for it
(43:49):
services, the number four, gofor its services. If you need to
tune up wheeling and I mean behindthe wheel wheeling. Uh he used to
go to in town. Cut anythingthis weekend doing racing? What's up?
No, I've got clients behind thewheel clients this weekend. I've actually got
a night class, which is ararity. Tonight. One of my guys
(44:09):
long term, he's getting a jobat night and he hasn't driven at night.
So we're gonna do some one onone instruction. Now what drug runner,
What do you no instruction at night? For better? He's just you
know, he's come a long waywith me. He's kind of special needs,
and uh, he would just feelmuch more comfortable if we do some
(44:32):
night stuff. So I'm gonna bedoing that, although I don't normally do
that. Okay, yeah, honey, I'm not out clubing. It's a
night driving course, night club. She knows we've been we've been together alone.
Oh yeah, that's awesome. Allright, so check this out.
(44:53):
You know what's coming up. Obviously, every single person I know when I
drive, any of the you knowwhat's crazy. So obviously want to drive.
Like I drove my Chevelle to workthe other day, Joe a charger.
Where were we the other day?Oh? I drove the kiddos to
their soccer deal the other day andmy Dodg's charger and drove the Parker the
(45:15):
Walmart. Uh in my sixty ninedollars charger, which it's just a scene,
right, It's just nasty, stupid, loud. Every tree hugger just
gets so irritated whenever you see it. But the majority of people, you
know, the majority of people seeme driving that car, they always like,
yeah, thumbs up, whoa facing, curious, you know, all
(45:37):
this stuff. They love seeing it. I actually had a note last time
I drove it to Walmart. Theysaid thanks for driving us today. So
it's cool when you get that reaction, right, Well, a lot of
people and this is what me andMatt were just talking about before I brought
him on. This is Matt fromspecially the Auto Action. What we were
talking about before was kind of funny, how much more expensive it is to
(46:00):
build the car versus buying the car. You know, even look and we'll
tell you even in the crazy environmentthat is today's world, and what it
mean by that, the haves andthe have nots, just a big,
big separation there. When you lookat Barrett Jackson even a meek them to
(46:20):
some extent, you see the insaneprices that people are paying for, you
know, all these crazy cars.Dude, there was a K five Blazer
was like four miles on it andwent across Barrett Jackson like one hundred and
eighty thousand dollars or something insane.I was like, whated up? I
mean, it was crazy. Soyou look at these prices and you're just
(46:44):
like, wow, how can peopleafford that? However, in a lot
of ways, it really man,it sort of hits the nail on the
head with something that's really true.A lot of times at some of these
auctions, you see crazy money, bar Jackson, but a lot of times
you see this car is going forsignificantly less than what you would build it
for, right, you know,So if you're thinking about a car,
(47:07):
where to get one, get yourhands on one, and all crazy cool
reactions that that happened when you driveone's feeling or you want to get one
and not not to have it bea three, four, five, six
year project. You know, we'veall got that buddy still working on his
car after seven eight years, stillsay I'm gonna get done one day.
(47:28):
When you really could just buy acar that's as close to what you want
as possible, and then you know, do a few things over time on
your own. You don't have todo a full on rebuild Unfortunately we all
learn that lesson the hard way,or we see it so much in racing.
People think they can build a carfrom scratch and be faster than established
(47:50):
race car teams that have been doingthis for years, and there's there's never
a time when that happens. No, not one time. So Matt,
here's another opportunity, especially the autoauction when you guys do these really cool
auctions. You got one coming upin May. This is an awesome opportunity
for anybody that's looking for some youknow, a unique kind of ride.
(48:13):
Be it something old school, beit something new school, something wild,
the something you know fast and youknow, straight nuts to get behind the
wheel u to you know ls WAPs, the cool pickup trucks. This is
this is your wheelhouse, man whereyou guys really thrive. And this is
another layer that I think makes itmore affordable. Like nobody wants to go
(48:36):
to Barrett Jackson because you know who'sthere people with a lot of money,
and people with a lot of moneylove flexing and showing off that they have
a lot of money. So youdon't want to play in that. Who
wants to play with that? Youknow where you can go to the specially
the auto auction, you know, get the same quality cars. Well,
I'll tell you he he being Scotthad a really cool was that a sixty
(48:59):
three pick up? Yeah, theyran it through the specially the auto auction
and nobody, nobody hit kind ofthe reserve. They took that thing to
Barrett Jackson and that thing was balland six figures like long money tall mail.
I think that thing brought like aboveone fifty, that's correct. I
(49:20):
think it was one sixty Yeah ona pick up. Man, that's crazy.
So look, this is a greatopportunity because if you're looking for some
of these cool cars, you're lookingfor some of these cool builds. A
lot of times they'll just let themrip man, especially the auto auction,
and these cars are sweet. Sothere's one coming up in May. Let's
just talk about how you guys setup as Island Grove. Tell me a
little bit about what's you know, kind of what's on the plate for the
(49:44):
first auction of the year. Yeah, so May eleventh at Island Grove,
we we should have you know, one hundred and forty or one hundred and
fifty cars. There's something for everybudget, anything from you know, your
your daily driver all the way tosomething that you drive on Sundays and are
(50:08):
scared to drive it because it's sonice, you know, right you obviously
you love seeing older hot rides, muscle cars, project cars, you know
thirdgeon Camaros now are are going upabout you probably gonna see a few of
those. Uh, do you knowif you have some modern muscle in the
(50:30):
in the mix? You know,we we always do have some. There's
always a you know, some kindof later model Corvette or Camaro or Mustang
or you know even even Chargers orHellcats. You know, yeah, we
get we get quite a bit ofstuff. Yeah, and really, as
far as affordability goes, this issomething sweet because a lot of people,
(50:52):
you know, if you were totake that same car and put it in
a bigger venue, obviously with brighterlights, it's gonna go for a lot
more money. So to me,this is this is the affordable route to
take when you're thinking about, youknow, what's what's my next hot ride
or muscle car gonna be? Rwhat kind of cool car pick up do
I want to you know roll upcoming up this summer? You know,
(51:13):
yep, hey honey up picking youup? At six or dusting off the
hot ride of rolling out. Youknow, that's always a blast, man,
it's always fun to do. Sothis is a great way to get
affordable, you know, and reallycool, crazy cool cars. Do you
know you said about one hundred andforty one hundred and fifty or so.
Now walk us through and this kindof runs the gamut. Do you know
(51:36):
of any off the top of yourhead that you could, i know,
pull up that we may be surprised? Do you have any obviously BMW's.
I've seen a bunch of those rollthrough there lately. Seen something been.
Yeah, we get some old trucks. I know, we're going to have
fifty four Chevy pickup that's all originalbut all restored back to original. So
(51:58):
they didn't they did not put anLS or something in this one. Surprised,
right, And it's a super nicecar. There's some old stuff,
some Model a's. I was buyingModel a's anymore. They don't know.
You don't really do much, you'reright, yeah, man, you know
(52:23):
it's wild, man, I loveit. Ran over on the road no,
yeah, but I love Henry Fordin that era. Man, he
was a gangster, you know,Henry Ford he was so hardcore. People
don't even know about that dude. That dude was so hardcore. I love
the two that he said, mycustomers can have a car and they want
black, right, He's a he'sa wild man, all right. So
(52:49):
some old school stuff, but justsaying a line of Idio motars coming to
the show. You know, Idon't know any off the top of my
head, so we always get somethingthere that we always get to old you
know, first generation Camaros. Hey, why are first generation Camaros? I
(53:09):
mean even have they gone up invalue? Or am I just am I
just seeing stuff wrong? Because Iswear it's Michael. You know, back
probably twelve fifteen years ago, theyhad a little rise and then they kind
of settled down for the last decadeor so. I mean you can pick
one up for you know, fifteen, eighteen, twenty, twenty five,
(53:30):
thirty. I swear, man,I feel like first gin Camaros sixty seventeen
sixty nine. I think those thingshave all of a sudden had this massive
increase in price and value. Reallyyeah, I think they've gone up a
little bit. And it's just likeeverything everything cycles. You know, they
were bringing a lot of money, and then they kind of cool off and
(53:50):
then they come back again. Mustangsare super hot right now? Oh,
come on, you're just saying that, right Ford guys, you never know?
Ah, is that? Is thattrue? Is really? Oh?
That hurts? Oh? I know, you know it's crazy. You see
these sixty nine seventy like four twentynine cars or whatever they put in the
(54:15):
mock one, I don't know, useless Ford, gutless motor dude, they
bring like hundreds of thousands of dollars. Yeah, they do well. Those
KR five hundreds are sweet. Soundslike a cereal whatever, they're cool.
Cool. It doesn't sound like acereal that kaye. Yeah. So all
(54:37):
right, as far as cars arestill affordable, you know, I've seen
the last few years Fox Body Mussthings and Jen three Camaros pop off like
crazy. Are you still seeing thosethings coming into a higher value than what
we ever thought they be a littlebit? Yeah, I mean, I
mean who thought that that those Youknow that mid seventies Camaro's, we're going
(55:02):
to be worth a lot of money. But you know, they're everything's starting
to I don't know, maybe we'reall getting older and it's getting there.
They're just and they're the cars aregetting older, so everybody, Yeah,
yeah, I guess anybody. Well, you know what, as investments go,
do you ever lose on a classic? You know, I'm talking to
the the ones that are always inHyderman, the Camaros, Chevelle's, Corvettes,
(55:25):
the Mustaches, Mustaches, the Chargers, Challenges, cooters. I don't
think you ever lose on investing inthose cars because they will always always bring
a big price. Yeah yeah, and there's always going to be a demand
for him for sure. Yeah. Now the ancillary is sort of you know,
(55:45):
the wild spinoffs of some of theyou know, weirder cars. You
know, it's really cool. Isaw a guy, you know, a
hot ride a Bucless Saber and itwas gorgeous. I saw a guy do
a you know as weird as iswhat's the cousin to the Nova? The
uh what was the other thing?Yeah, so each manufacturer Buck had one
(56:07):
had one and they all spelled nova. You know that it was weird.
So all the spin offs, howweird is GM, all the spin offs
from each of their step brother categories, it all spelled Nova. The the
name for him, so you saidventure venture whatever it is, that was
the V of the Nova. Sothe Chevrolet version was Nova. It was
(56:31):
a Buick Venture. What was thewhat was it one of? It was
like anyway, the name the titlesof the cars spelled out Nova. It's
nuts, is it. I'm like, that's a cool little trick they did
the uh what was the A version? A one? Mm hmm. I
(56:52):
don't know. You gotta look itup. But each one of them had
a spinoff that was just like thatbaby scoop can look it up. I
did not know that. Yeah, but it's hey, what is the Oldsmobile
version of a Nova? Scoop?See if you can find that? And
the Buick version of a Nova?Because all the cars started with the it
(57:13):
was an acrono although started with aletter of Nova and it was it wasn't
the Grand Sport with Buick. No, what maybe an Ombi or it started
with oh, I know, itstarted with oh anyway, uh, but
they spelled Nova. It's just kindof weird thing that cheval Chevrolet did that
nobody knows about. Anyway, Moparforward, what about you know, take
(57:39):
the big three out of the equation. What a euro models are kind of
starting to pop off and bring somemoney what weird you know, uh,
off the wall type stuff. AndI got to ask for motor since this
is in spring, motorcycles in themix. Yeah, there's some motorcycles in
the mix for sure, mainly Harley'sor what what kind of motorcycles. There's
(58:02):
there's some Harley you know, thethe old and the older Honda like Trail
nineties in the old the seventies. You know, they made a fifty version
of them. And no things aregetting are going up in price as well.
And when you guys do like aday, if you have like one
(58:22):
hundred and fifty cars, it goesfrom win to win. Typically auction starts
at ten on the on that Saturday. On the Omega, it was the
old mobile Omega. That was theold version of the Nova that represents the
oh in Nova and hold on,do you have the Buick version Buick Apollo
(58:45):
Apollo was a yeah, yeah,so is the Nova, the Omega,
the Venture and the Apollo, andit is spelled out nova. Is that
weird? Yeah, sucker fishes andnobody knows what we're talking about now right
(59:06):
All this spinoffs from the Nova.Yeah, anyway, you could take a
offshoot of the Nova and build itnowadays to be affordable and still have,
you know, and still get adecent hot ride, Whereas I feel like
those major players in that most carera are always always gonna be the cars
big demand, big money, andyou know, just huge in value.
(59:29):
If you're going in the AutoZone andyou're looking for Nova parts, you should
ask for Apollo parts. See seeif they can figured it out. Oh
right, yeah, throw them fora loop. It'll take you a lot
longer to get Apollow parts. Right. What's that Buick version of the Nova?
What the hell you talk about? That's funny. So do you see
(59:51):
any of these European cars, youknow, start to show up at the
auction? And how cool is itthat some of the youngsters that's kind of
their version of a hot ride now? Right? Yeah? And the two
eight disease and you know, thosethings have gone up in value, the
stuff that we didn't think it everwould, you know, right, especially
(01:00:12):
disease. There's some older Porsches thatare doing good. I never understand porches,
man, my god, I justcan't believe that makes power. I'm
just I don't know that's enough aboutporches to do anything. That's what we
feed to our corvettes because they likeGerman food. Well you say that,
My boy Brady has that crazy porchthat every time you say whatever it is,
(01:00:36):
people just go play bad. Theycan go yeah yeah, and I'm
like out of a porch, shoulderpainful, all right. And you just
say some motorcycles anything hotter than apickup truck these days? Not much.
(01:00:57):
They're they're strong, there's for sure. Yeah. You usually get a couple
ls WAT pickup trucks up there, right. Yeah, there has been even
the square bodies. We've had acouple of square bodies seventies models pick up
with LSS in them, and theydo really well too. Yeah. And
(01:01:20):
four wheel drive. You know everybodythinks too wheel drive and you know the
four wheel drive square body trucks arereally strong right now. Yeah, man,
I got a couple of them. It's just really those are It's such
crazy, like you said, it'scyclical. How wow it is that I
drive this little seventy nine gmmy allthe time, and every day I drive,
(01:01:44):
somebody will come up, man,I love that truck and I'm like,
that thing is a rust bucket. You know that it's not rusted that
bad, but just like the otherday, my boy Mike shout out to
Mike and a better garage door. It's funny because, honestly, god man,
he shows up, he's like,is that your daily drive. I'm
like, yeah, pretty much,Like that's so cool, oh man,
(01:02:04):
gmc jimmy, Yeah, your fullsize, like you know, K five,
And he's just all can't believe that. You all love that thing.
But you know why, it strikesthe cord. People love seeing him.
Really cool when you can find oneaffordable price. Even better when his lsy
has you know, modern drive trainingand all that's epic, really righteous combination.
And again, it's gonna be affordable. It's gonna be one of those
(01:02:28):
things. You know, not manyopportunities exist for us to go out there
and you know, grab ourselves amuscar or a hot ride or you know,
a rat ride or a pickup truck. You know, it's cool bike
and all this other stuff they have, especially the auto auction. A few
times you can get your hands onit at this cheap of a price.
And I say cheap only because lookat what it costs to build them.
(01:02:50):
There is no way, you know, you could build one for the price
of being able to buy one ata place like especially the auto auction.
So if you're interested, you're thinkingof yourself, what would be a good
investment. These truly are big investments. They're great if you got, you
know, the opportunity to buy onelow, hold on to it. They're
only going up in value and sellit on a high you know. To
(01:03:14):
me, it's a smart move tomake, And here's an opportunity coming at
you. May eleventh, I didn'tgrove in Greeley. How do people you
guys are still obviously taking consignments? How do people get plugged into more of
that? They have a car they'relooking to sell, if they had something
they're looking to sell, you guys, what sort of the requirements can can
(01:03:37):
a person sell a project car?Does it need to you know, does
need to have everything? Like? What are the things that you guys will
and won't take? Well, Imean, we prefer to have them running
and driving through, but you knowthere's some project cars that that will take
and push them across the block orsomething if they're true project cars. So
(01:03:58):
if they roll that we can usuallyget them. But yeah, they can
consign right on our website and it'spretty simple to do. Do you guys
just have any any race cars thatgo through typically once once in a while.
We do. Yeah, a lotof them are drag race cars,
not on a road car. Pontiadventurer Boy Scott to send your picture venture
(01:04:26):
Yes, yes, what a turd? All right, so I'll get stuff
up there at May eleventh. Nowgive us kind of the rundown if people
are looking to put their their vehicleand consignment. So what are the ins
and outs if you are looking tosell a car, what do you recommend
reserve or non reserve? Kind ofexplain what happens in there and what you
(01:04:53):
know, what the best way tosell your car is and why you feel
that way. You know it,don't It all depends for From my standpoint,
I love no reserve only because itcreates a lot of excitement and everybody
that's betting on it in the audienceknows that somebody's gonna buy that car to
last better, so you know, and we do no reserve for five percent
(01:05:15):
commission to the seller. If youput a reserve on your car, it's
eight percent. But it protects youthat if you want X amount of dollars,
we're not gonna sell us for lastnight. Hey, and look,
I'll be dead nuts on us.I've seen this happen a million times.
I've seen this happen for every forevery one time this doesn't happen, I'll
(01:05:38):
see this happen one hundred times. And I'm sure you could even increase those
numbers. Here's here's the scenario.A guy gets up there, he puts
fifty thousand dollars with the reserve onhis vehicle. He gets up there,
that money starts talking to him. Now, remember the difference in what you're
gonna pay on the other's eight percent. Right, When a car's on no
reserve gets a lot of attention. When it's got a reserve, not necessarily
(01:06:01):
as much. And look it maynot need as much depending on your car.
However, this is what happens allthe time, All too often.
Guy's got a fifty thousand dollars reservein the car. His car goes up
on the block. P were beenthirty seven, thirty eight, thirty nine.
He says, I'm gonna hold thema hold till forty six. Man,
(01:06:23):
I'm not going if I'm not gettingforty six, then I'm not gonna
pull that reserve. He gets upthere and against the thirty nine, against
the forty. You know he does, he pulls that effing reserve. I've
seen that happen one hundred times forevery one time that it hasn't. So
I'm telling you man, it isyes. And instead of just put it
(01:06:47):
up there for no reserve, becauselook, few men these days have the
balls to do that, because they'reballs in their wife's purse. But Arnest
got nine times out of ten, hell, ninety five times out of one
hundred. Right, I'll see.Look, now this is if they get
(01:07:08):
in that wheelhouse. You gotta thinkabout where they're right. You gotta know
your car and you gotta have aballpark on what it will bring. But
I've seen so many times the gap, the do you know the you know
what the Overton window is. I'llgive you a little, a quick little
education. So the Overton window. You will see. Anybody's married, their
(01:07:30):
wife has played this one hundred times. So let's just say hi. You'll
see the government do this constantly, constantly, So the Overton window, here's
the here's the rub. So youtell your wife, honey, we can't
afford anything for the next three months, right, nothing, everything, Every
dollar's accounted for, and she's like, honey, I'm doing a ten thousand
(01:07:53):
dollars kitchenery model next week and there'snothing you can do about it. Right.
You go, honey, I can't, we can't afford it. There's
no way we could fix it inthe budget. Blah blah blah blah.
And you start this argument and goback and forth. Right, So your
line when you first start is zero. You have zero money for the budget,
right, no wiggle room at all. And what happens over the period
(01:08:15):
in the next two weeks, right, it goes from a ten thousand dollars
you know, remodel to she says, Okay, well, honey'm on,
we gonna keep it five thousand dollars. A honey, we cannot afford it.
We can't. We have no moneyor a budget none at all,
no wiggle room whatever. She goes, Okay, honey, I'm gonna make
a twenty five one hundred dollars budgetand as low as I go, and
(01:08:35):
you go, okay, twenty fivehundred bucks. She has just moved the
Overton window in her favor. Right, So there's a you gotta know where
that is, right, You gottaknow where your your game is that know
what your car will bring. Butit is a smart move to consider that
(01:08:57):
right to move that over to thewindow. You you say, fifty thousand
dollars, your hard, no,right, hard, fifty thousand dollars,
I'm going to budget list is fiftyg's and they get the forty two to
five and you're like, sell that, bitch, sell it. So know
that when you're going in and knowthat when you're thinking to yourself whether or
not you should put a no reserveor reserve title in the car. How
(01:09:20):
many times though, when you haveno reserve do you get a really low
price for the car? Does thathappen a lot? Well, you know
it doesn't happen nearly as much asyou think, because again, it creates
that excitement and they know the lastbitter standing is going to own that car.
So you know that guy, theguy that was going to spend five
(01:09:41):
grand, is I was going tohit it two or three more times because
that don't be afraid. I wouldbe afraid. I'd be up there with
the souls to somebody says one thousanddollars sold, right, Well, I
mean, look, you have toknow you got to know your car.
You got to know at least aballpark of what you think it'll bring.
(01:10:05):
And you gotta hope look at thedream scenario when you get two people in
there, especially if they bring theirwives, and their wife says, honey,
on want that car? Oh yeah, you know you talk about moving
the over to the window. Holymo right, you're just the guy's just
banging on it, and all ofa sudden, you know you'll have a
freaking you know, seventy I don'tknow, seventy nine Camaro Berlinetta with three
(01:10:29):
oh five over one hundred grand. You're like, what the just happened?
Oh it was pink you know?Oh you know, I just wanted to
pink one. You know it's aGodey So yeah, man, it really
depends on you can get up therebedding on it. But you got to
know your car. And I willtell you have a hard conversation with yourself
or whoever needs to be in thatconversation as to where your true window is.
(01:10:54):
And then when it gets closed,if you would cross that line and
know that when you stick the reasonover no reserve title on it, yep?
Do you want to sell the car? Or don't you? Right?
Bottom. Not a car show exactly. So all right man. People if
they're looking to put their car onconsignment, looking to check out what their
(01:11:17):
car may bring on this Male eleventhauction against an Island Grove in Greeley,
does it cost anything to come tothese auctions? Nope? How do people
get a bidder's number? They canregister on our website as well and put
all their information in so they don'thave to do it the day of the
(01:11:38):
auction. And we don't charge anythingfor bitter numbers. We don't charge anything
to come and look around, bringthe kids, and yeah, it doesn't
cost anything unless you buy something. So a car show technically it can be
right yeah, and there's beer therethat's that's added instead of to buy.
(01:12:08):
Yeah. Man, Uh, Specialtyauto auction if they're looking to put something
on consignment, yes, okay, specialty auto auction. Look for the May
eleventh Island Grove auction. You'll seeit right up there in the main page.
That's their next one. Look, that's always a big opportunity because the
(01:12:30):
first one is spring, so theyou know, typically a lot of cars
there. Uh, it's always bigfun. That's say, an awesome venue.
It's got everything you need for somethinglike this, and it's it's just
cool because up north they get carsfrom all over, not just in Colorado,
but they'll get them from Wyoming,Nebraska. I mean, you'll you
got that one guy, I'm notsure where he comes from, the guy
(01:12:53):
that's always got like a Bronco ora Blazer. He had a really cool
power wagon truck. Yeah, he'salways bringing down cool stuff, man,
he does. And it's easy. They'll charge anything for a bidder's number.
Man, it's rolling there. It'snot easy. They know me so well.
I'm just like they're like, willyou want to get on this,
(01:13:13):
I go get your They just handme your card all like, Man,
I bought too many cars from them. Uh, but it's a it's a
blast, man. There's always reallycool stuff, really cool cars. A
little bit of memorabilia is always kindof out there too, to kind of
warm up the crowd and and geteverybody unpaced to start bidding. So if
you want to get there early, maybe throw down on some memorabilia, cool
(01:13:34):
signage and mini bikes and weird wildpatio TVs that you know come out of
you know, the front end oftrucks and whatnot. They have all kinds
of that stuff there, So gootleopportunity to It's May eleventh Island grow Specialty
Auto Auction dot Com. Check himout online. Matt, have a blast
today, man, takes some timea right, see you man, Thank
(01:13:54):
you guys, to see you later. See you bro. It is fun
man. Oh yeah, hopefully.I don't know if I'm gonna have a
car ready to go. I don'tknow. Maybe how many times have you
used them up there? Tons yeah, tons, yeah yeah. I bought
a bunch of cars from them andsold a bunch. They're great man as
(01:14:16):
Scott. If you're looking for dude, if you're looking for here's what's crazy
about this auction. If you're lookingfor say a late sixties to early eighties
Corvette, Okay, there's always fouror five of them in these auctions,
and they go cheap, right, and they're like legit, you know,
(01:14:39):
four fifty four four speed like thecars you want. They always that's an
undervalued car. These auctions. They'llhave typically some project cars. But this
is if you're looking for a reallycool deal. This is the best place,
in my opinion, to get thoseancillary hot rides, those ones that
(01:14:59):
you'll see some sixty nine Camaros. You'll see some you know, some Corvettes,
but you also see some of thoseoffshoot or secondary. You'll see a
crazy cool Corvet, you know. You'll see some different Mustangs. You'll see
some you know, different versions oryear of the Camaros, but also firebirds
stuff like that. Is that whereyou got your silver Corvette? Because that
(01:15:23):
would be no but real. Sothe guy that I got it from bought
it from there. Okay, yeah, yeah, so's it's just the great
Chevelle's. They always have Chevelle's.Yeah, they always have a ton of
Lswatt pickup trucks. So if you'reneeded or look at us like that,
(01:15:44):
this is a home run to scorethat type of stuff really cheap, really
affordable, because don't do they'll theyhad to. I almost bought it,
but I'm so broke. They hada two hundred, a Nissan two hundred
SX. They had a LS swapone oh yeah yeah with a TKX five
speed tons suspension on it, andit went for twenty grand wow and had
(01:16:11):
a sick paying job. Great driftcar, oh, epic drift car,
epic, and man, I wantedthat car so bad. But you know,
I don't got twenty grand a blow, So I'm like, man,
that's a great deal on that car. Yeah. So things like that that
you'll just be like, whoa,I scored a you could like you could
not even come close touching that car. Fronder sixty seventy g's and they sold
(01:16:34):
it for twenty Wow. Yeah itwas and it was good looking too,
good pain sharp, yeah, man, iverythink about it was nice. Yeah.
I was like, man, Iwant to buy that all right?
TENOT thirty seven we got to abreak, man, we'll hustle will be
his garage. Want to sit atnine kvpi. You're back in Williebe's garage?
(01:16:57):
What ups will drives? How wedo it? You guys like Saturday
on tap? Oh man, allkinds of cool stuff. So wrapping up
there with specially the auto Wox andsome cool, really cool rides at that
thing. If you're in the marketfor one, or if you're in the
market to sell one, maybe checkthat out. It's always kind of cool.
I don't know what you're gonna walkout there with. Man, I've
(01:17:18):
had a couple of whoops of those. I was minded my own business and
it called to me. Yeah.Yeah. There has been times where I'm
like, hey, Monica, wejust bought a car. She's like,
what, Oh well, I camehome with three Ducati's one time at one
(01:17:40):
time. Oh damn. I rolledout the first one and I go,
yeah, baby, what do youthink and she goes, yeah, that's
cool. I go, wait, but wait, there's more. Is happy
about that. As we do,I roll out the second word. She
goes too. I go wait, but wait, there's more, and she
(01:18:01):
goes three. Really, I go, baby, they were on sale and
that was true. Hey she Idon't understand girl, math honey is not
what I spent, It's what Isaved. No, that's true. You
know. Now, this was backwhen fay Meers had that hail Hail sale.
Okay, oh yeah, and Igot three du Kadis for what two
(01:18:25):
du kadies would cost. And I'mlike, yeah, I take that.
You know, it was cool. It's funny because cars they tend to make
such cool moments and memories in theirlife. Case in point, everybody was
fipping me dead punch. I haven'tback in the day had this old Mustang
and he got a paint. No, I didn't even I even did I
(01:18:45):
had it over at my shop fora while, did a little bit of
work on it, helped him withit, got it painted. One of
my buddies painted, I think mybuddies anyway, I can remember one of
my buddies painting that or oh yeah, pain. But this was a car
that that I think it was.It was originally his mom was his mom
(01:19:06):
gave it to him and he hadit for a little bit and then he
sold it when everything kind of startedtaking off and he had to move to
you know, La and Vegas andall that stuff. It's like a sixties
six or sevenk No, it's nota fast bag. It's cool, but
(01:19:26):
it's a cooler looking coup like he'sgot it kind of died up some cool
fairings and spoilers on and whatnot. So it took him, I don't know
six He texted me about it theother day. It took him like seven
or eight years to find it andlet me see the same car. He
found the same car and got itback. Oh wow, yeah, And
(01:19:48):
he's like, really took me thislong to get it back? Look like
I said it and he was so, oh, twelve years took me up
in twelve years to find it bythe back just came in the day.
He said, I'm in tears.Uh here it is right there. That's
the car. Cool is cool?Yeah, So she'd wanted that car back
forever. I remember when he soldit because it was at my garage when
(01:20:12):
he sold it and he finally gotit back. It's wild the memories and
the got the moments that you resortback to, you know, as a
car enthusiast. Well, it takesit takes you back to a time and
a place like a time machine, right, yeah, absolutely, It's kind
(01:20:33):
of funny, man, my gotan. You think back my years at
trying to find that first Dodge chargerand when I when I did, it
was like four different colors, andI put duct tape all around the driver's
seat and you know, I didn'thave a heater. I remember driving a
thing in the winter one time whenit was like eight inch of snow and
I was sliding all over place likewhoo, I'm in my Dodge. Like
(01:20:56):
I was so happy I was ina Dodge charger, like a seventy Dodge
charger. You know, I waslike, dish is awesome. I'm not
cold, no man, but hey, whenever you whenever you have those memories,
be it you know, something crazycool or just some kind of weird
old school car that's passed down andyou know you have moments and memories with
(01:21:21):
it, you let it go.Just the ability to get it back and
to relive some of that again.Man, it's cool. Yeah. I've
had the same car and I soldit and then I got it back,
and I sold it I got itback. I was like, Okay,
I gotta stop this madness. Welllook up, I will tell you,
(01:21:43):
man, this is an awesome weekendto get out there and have some fun.
We'll shout out to uh, someboys had done a Pueblo. Uh.
Do you go to the Pueblo veryoften to do your go for services?
Every now and then I go towherever the people want me to go.
But it's so much more convenient togo to eat either high planes or
Lahunta. Lahunta is much more availablethan Pueblo. It's about fifty miles from
(01:22:08):
Pueblo, Okay, Yeah, andit's you know, nice little track,
but track availability, and it's lessexpensive, so you can save a lot
of money if you go to Lahuntainstead of high planes. Yeah, yeah,
no doubt. High plane is alittle spindy, but I know,
I know Pueblo. I think theirlapping day is going on this weekend.
(01:22:28):
Okay, yeah, well the tracksthat can open will open here fairly so
yeah, oh we'll get some updateson that. But it's great weekend.
It's gonna get even better. Markthat day down on the counter. May
eleventh, Island Grove and Greeley fornext shot to get some I will take
a quick quick update, could gothis weekend and hopefully finish up this little
(01:22:55):
Camaro deal burnt toast. How muchmore horsepower will you have then you had
before? So right now probably aroundeighty seventy eighty ballpark ish You had eight
hundred before, didn't you. Yeah, yeah, just under eight hundred,
so I have a little bit morenow. The real testament as to the
(01:23:17):
power increases the car will have ismid range. Well, no, I'm
got I gotta so. The superchargerI have on that car is a little
bit small in my opinion. Yeah, it's the old jack what is it,
ram jack one or jack Jack barsupercharger. I believe probably gonna upgrade
(01:23:38):
that the lid on the supercharger togo with something like a you know,
I'd love to put like a twopoint sixty five liters or something like that
on it over what's on it rightnow, just to make a little bit
more a little bit more power tomess with. So hopefully I could get
that done by the end of summer. But the goal is fingers crossed to
have that car back up and dialedin by by next weekend, uh,
(01:24:00):
the next time we have the show, so we could check that out.
But it should be it should beyou know, eight low eight hundreds with
some uh, with some capability goingup to around a thousand by the end
of something. And would that bea car that you could take out on
a road course? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got a few BMR
(01:24:23):
suspension upgrades to it and a fewyou know a few more to do.
But yeah, it's got huge breaks, big fourteen roaders and you know,
all the fun stuff, and doeshave some bigger upgraded shocks and sway bars,
you know, things like that already. So yeah, it's it's more
of a that type car than itis a drag race car. But the
(01:24:45):
thing is nasty. It's got toreally right to tune on it too,
and you see it and you wouldnever guess that it was a fast There's
a reason we call it burnte. So I'll give you updates. You can
follow that on my Instagram page.I'll post up some photos of a little
bit later today. I wanted topost them up through the moment he rolled
(01:25:10):
in the shop until the moment werolled out and share all those at once.
Says posed to like, Hey,it's all tore down. It looks
like butt right now, but here'sthe shot of it. So hopefully we'll
look get that thing wrapped up andshout out to Chris and Matt and a
man Sam for helped me. ButI think this is probably just the weekend.
Get it buttoned up and yeah, yeah it should be nice. Yeah,
(01:25:33):
get it back on. You bringsome fast next week. I could.
I'll bring some fast and we'll gofrom there. If you know what
I mean, right, I mighthave to bring the bike to keep up
with that. Then I'll break mybike. I think this car is fast
and that would be easy. Youthink your bike is fast? A mom,
dude, don't get me started.Do you know what bike I even
(01:25:56):
had? I know the Vmax Yeahyeah, yeah, and you know what
bike I have that bmw oh yeah, dude, I will lay waste.
Oh stop, here we go?Are you sal four hundred and twenty pounds
two hundred and ten horse power carbonfiber wheels? Come on, come on
(01:26:18):
now still a BMW physics? Don'tlie? Was it weigh four hundred and
twenty pounds and how much powers? But now two hundred and ten horse power
at the at the little flywheel atthe wheel, at the wheel. You
crazy dude? What bikes? Ishe lying? Oh no, what is
it? Look it up? Sone thousand r r M option BMW Yeah,
(01:26:43):
s s R well s one thousandr r M option. There's a
lot of how do you have allthat trash on the side plate? Yeah,
it doesn't say all that on themotorcycle. Let's see BMW. Oh
(01:27:04):
it's but dude, it's fast.Yeah, absolutely Does that have that dumb
side deal? Oh there it is. Yeah, no it doesn't. It's
a full on like yeah, thisis and it's nasty and it's even got
heated grips and cruise control. Oldman, heated grips, heated grips.
(01:27:28):
It came like that, and Iwas and I was pure like you.
I said, well, I'm notever going to use them. But then
I was out there riding and myhands got cold and I'm like, I'm
like no, no, And thenmy hands started getting numb and I'm like,
come on, maybe try them out, and oh they were so warm.
I'm like, okay, you gotme damn. Oh dude. Yeah,
all right, we'll bring that.Bring out there, whippedop to that.
(01:27:59):
And the longer we go, theworse it's gonna get for you.
Yeah. I'm not talking you know, a mile. I'm talking to quarter
mile. Oh yeah, quarter mile. That's okay. Alright, we're gonna
we've had this conversation before. No, we have not. All right,
y'all, we gotta go slippys Rives, go for it. Services number four.
Mike Pettiford the comany you guys, enjoy your weekend and see you back
(01:28:23):
at it on Monday. You wantto send this out of your mic?
Yeah, man, have a goodweekend, keep the rubber side down and
BMW is a slow we'll see.William's garage is now
