Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's just one of those things that I do. I
host seventeen different podcasts, so the question is where are they?
How can I find them on these digital platforms. Well,
it's very easy now Aro dot net, Aroe dot net.
Thank you so much for all your support. Good morning, John,
How are you doing today? How's it going, man, I'm
always excited to share a convers Well, John, Yeah, it's
(00:22):
fun to share a conversation with you because I think
that you are the trendsetter in so many ways. Because
since season one of House of David, I swear, my
pastor at Elevation Church, has really dove into the story
of David and men it all comes together and makes
it even a better experience.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
You know what's so cool about doing House of David
and doing it at this level of scope and scale
is I'm reading the Psalms differently.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
You know, this guy is one.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Of the great songwriters and poets of all time, and
we know kind of a lot of what he was
feeling because of the Psalms. But when you kind of
match that to the drama of his life, take on
a whole new meaning, you know. And uh and and
when you dramatize these scenes, you know, and then and
then you talk about, oh, the Lord is my shepherd,
you know, uh uh, you know, it's such a cool
(01:10):
thing and uh and and it really is just for
me personally, it's kind of revelatory and in uh in
reading the material and it's just an incredible story, like
this is the original hero's journey, you know, like this
is I believe this is the root to the tree
that Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter and you know, uh,
(01:31):
you know all those character proto you know, all those
characters kind of come from in a way.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
And uh.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
And it's a it's a privilege to tell and it's
a dream project. And I'm so grateful that the show
has so wildly exceeded our expectations.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Well, it's me.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
It's more than just a Luke Skywalker. It's also a
personal journey because we all look at those those moments
in our personal lives where it's like, oh, I really
don't want to do this, but what would David do.
David would serve. He made the choice to serve, and
and that's how it's working its way through our lives
right now.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, it's interesting that that you know, you wonder why
do we love these stories, these heroes, journeys, stories like David.
And I think it's because all of us have an
inner longing and an inner desire to have a to
have a purpose, and to have a destiny and to
have a place in a grander story. And that's meaningful,
and I think that's why we're drawn to these stories.
(02:23):
And and so I do hope that that when people,
you know, watch the show, I hope they're wildly entertained
by it. But then I hope that they that they
ask those questions their own life of like, you know what,
what's my giant? You know, what's my cause? What's my destiny?
What's that that scary right of passage that that that.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
God wants me to walk down?
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Because I think we're all capable of much more than
we realize, and I think we all long for an
adventure and uh and and there's nothing better than than
you know, taking those big risks in life and you know,
serving cause that are bigger than yourself.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
In ways that might be scary at first, you know.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
And I think that is the lesson of David, like
step into your destiny, you know, I think is the
is the lesson of the show.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
David is written about so much throughout the entire Bible,
And what I love about this is that it's the
interpretation of each author of the books. And I think
that life needs to be looked at that way too.
Don't take a one sided view, look at the interpretations
of everybody who's part of the story.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah, I think I think David is one of those
characters that is just throughout the centuries.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
It's just he's a character that echoes through time and and.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Many, many people are truly fascinated by him and by
his life, and so the amount of commentary is written
about him, the amount of times he's mentioned in the Bible.
And yet this was a very flawed character that made
some great decisions, some very bad decisions, but he always
found his way back to God and to his purpose,
and so he's a very I think he's probably the
(04:03):
most relatable character in the Bible, Like we all can
relate to the way he feels. Like when you talk
about his writings in the Psalms, like there's only about
fifteen percent of them that are like, Hey, thank God,
my life is great. The rest of them are like, man,
I am like afraid, I'm angry, I've been betrayed, you know,
you know I'm in danger, you know all these things
(04:23):
that all of us feel. So it really is the
spectrum of human emotions. It makes for great television and
I'm very, very privileged to be the one telling this
story right now. And I'm also so grateful that the
audience loves it. And by the way, the finale episode
of season two, which I'm just one fan of the show,
(04:44):
but I am the first fan and as the creator,
and this is my favorite episode of the series thus far.
It's streaming on Wonder Project on Prime Video this weekend,
and it is a epic, epic episode and I cannot
wait for the audience to see it.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Please do not move. There's more with John Irwin coming
up next. House of David season two, the finale on
Prime We are back with John Irwin. Now, John, don't
you feel like that you are part of the travels
and the trails that take place inside David's story because
you are putting us inside that element. You are giving
us moving pictures. I can smell the dirt, I can
(05:21):
be with the people. I get to feel that emotion
going on, and it's one of those things that with
you being that close to the storyline, I want Saturday
Night Live to do a bit on this because they
would have done it in those days when David was
right there. They would have said something on the side.
They would have got the message, but they also would
have got the humor as well, which would have brought
them closer to the message. And that's what I love
about you. You've got guts to put this out there.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
You know. David's a real person, yes, just like the
rest of us, and he lived in a very real
time and he didn't know he was in the Bible.
And so I think that there's a humanity to find
in this ever, in the story, in this epic story.
And that's my my co showrunner on this, John Gunn
(06:06):
is so good at finding the humanity in every moment
and finding the relatability of every moment, because what I
want people to understand is that they have a destiny too,
and they can step into it, you know, And that's
what I want them to take away from the show.
And and so that's that's what I that's what I
love about doing this is it's it's certainly one of
the most famous stories of all time, but at the time,
(06:29):
David was just another guy living his life and fulfilling
his destiny and dealing with the problems that we all
that we all face, and so there's a real relatability
to the show in that way.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Well, I tend to use it as a tool when
I'm when I am am instructing people in broadcasting and
or just in every day in the everyday world, because
I'll sit there and I will ask them, who is
your David in your moment of struggle right now? Because
if you are not David, then you must be the giant?
And who is your David? And you better prepare for
that because and that's what you're doing out here, is
that you're sharing a message for us to incorporate this
(07:00):
into our personal lives.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yeah, you know, I think there's a lot of people
that watch the show and love it.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
But then you instantly asked the question, Okay, what's my giant?
You know, what's what's my what? What?
Speaker 2 (07:16):
What destiny do I need to walk into? What am
I afraid to do but feel called to do? What's
the adventure that I'm supposed to live? You know?
Speaker 3 (07:22):
And those are the those are the big questions.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
So what are you putting yourself into next And I'm
praying that you give me Elijah because I want to
be able to experience the very first miracle I want.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
That's a great that's a great idea. Yeah, Elijah would
be great. You know, Look, I would say this. The
Bible has sold five billion copies for a reason. It's
the it's the most famous book of all time for reasons.
The stories are unbelievable and there's many, many of them
to tell.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
And you know, I'm hard at work on.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Season three of House David currently, you know, in terms
of writing it and architecting it. But but but I
can't wait to you know, there's many other stories to
tell in the Bible, and it's a privilege to tell them.
And really it really is the success of the work
that allows us to do this. So I tell people,
you know, with the movies that we make, your movie
ticket is like your vote. House of David is screaming
(08:15):
on streaming on Wonder Project on Prime right now, and
so your subscription is like your vote.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
This is how we make the content.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
So your support, anyone watching the show, anyone supporting the show,
your support is what allows us to put the work
on this type of stage. And you know, our goal
with House of David was just to put the Bible
on the biggest stage possible, and everyone watching the show
is enabling us to do that because it really is
the wild success of the work that's allowing us to
(08:45):
dream bigger dreams every day.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
God, I wish I had the research right now to
show how many people just said amen to what you
just said, because what you just said is every reason
why I would raise my arms at Elevation Church and
say amen, bring it.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Thank you, Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Dude.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
You got to come back to this show anytime in
the future. The door is always going to be open
for you.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Always.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
He Thank you for getting the word out, and again
to everyone watching the show, it's our privilege to entertain.
And you know, the idea that we can tell meaningful
stories that you can watch with your family that I
hope are wildly entertaining for you, but that also remind
you and inspire you of everything that we can should
be in the world and are creative to be.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
That is the privilege of a lifetime.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
And I'm very, very grateful that you enjoy the show
and I cannot wait for people to see the finale episode.
It is really, really, really special and it's going to
be streaming this weekend on Prime Video on Wonder Project.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Will you be brilliant today? Okay, Sarah.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Likewise, thank you so much
