Speaker 1 (00:00):
Episode ten of the Monday Recap, and we're back and
we kicked off the Melbourne Cup Carnival in style. Apparently
there was eighty thousand people on course and it looked electric.
I'm gonna be going through some of the feature races
from the weekend and also a quick review from some
of the best bets from the lads last weekend, as

(00:21):
well as chatting about all the events and everything that's
coming up and what we've got packed for you as
we build into the National Punters Club. The pool's currently
at thirty two thousand, seven hundred and eighty three dollars.
How good it's building nicely. We are still over a
week out from kicking off the Punters Clubs. We've got

(00:44):
plenty of time to build. I can easily see this
pool getting to over two one hundred and fifty k
and hopefully we can repeat some of the feats from
a couple of years ago during New Zealand Cup week. Right,
let's jump into it first of all, and we'll review
the Blessed Bet and the Harness Hay. The Harness Halo
was devastating, to say the list. It was a really

(01:07):
tough watch. The horse got the lead and then took
the trail and was absolutely traveling from the eye anyway
coming into the home turn. The whole day, the passing
lane seemed like the place to be, and for whatever reason,
they chose not to take the passing lane, and it
looked a little bit awkward, and it took an age

(01:28):
for this horse to get out from behind the leader.
And then when it did get out the last one hundred,
it looked like it was coming strongly, but surprise, surprise,
there was a horse three back on the markers and
it took the passing lane and that happened to be
the one that snuck up and got the job done
over Tempo Warrior. It was absolutely devastating because we really
needed a harness halo to come home to get this

(01:51):
ROI turned back around, but again, yeah, I don't know.
It was tough. It was tough to see. Look, it's
a long season. There is plenty of action packed harness
racing to come back over these next couple of weeks,
so we'll be back. The blest bet was Cheval Defudre
and unfortunately it was scratched the morning of the race.

(02:14):
Sounds like the horse may be a little lame Hopefully
there's nothing too serious for this horse and hopefully we
can see him back on the track soon because he
was also impressive last start and he looks like a
stayer of the future for sure. The ROI for the
Blessed bet hasn't changed where ten point two units of

(02:35):
profit for the season and the Harness halo unfortunately is
negative eight units on the season so far, so we'll
be looking to turn that around this week. This week,
we're not actually going to have a Harness halo on Friday. Instead,
we're going to be turning to Cup Week, which is
on the second Tuesday of November, where all the harness

(02:56):
lads are going to have their best bets boosted on
the day. Really excited to see that. So we're going
to get a crack at four different harness bets on
the day on Cup Day and it's really excited looking
forward to seeing what the lads come up with. All right, now,
we'll go jump through and have a look at all
the best bets from the lads over the weekend. Of course,

(03:18):
I had a harness best bet this week as well
as Gallops, but the Harness best bet this week was
Pantani and it was a gross watch. I don't think
I've actually seen this horse gallop before, but sure enough
when I pick it at my best bet, it galloped
a bunch of times and had no chance. We need
to save the gallops for Saturday. We'll move on. This
is a really talented trotter and I think it's gonna

(03:40):
be a good chance later on the season the good
three year old races. I think it's right up to them.
But it wasn't his day on Friday, so we'll move on.
Scan Man had meth been Race seven, number nine Brits Mate,
and this horse just had no gate speed and so
had no chance to lead. Really, it had a good
run in transit and the one one but the markers

(04:00):
was the place to be looked like it was traveling
really well on the turn but just didn't really have
any zip. It was only half a length from third.
So the seventh seventh looks worse on paper than what
it actually is because you could throw a blanket over
third to seventh or eighth. I think, so yeah, reasonable
run from that one, Markham Dennis de Nuto. He got

(04:23):
away clean and found the lead, and unfortunately there was
another one that got away cleanly on the outside and
pushed really hard to try and cross him, which made
Dennis Denudo work hard over the first few hundred meters
coming around the home ten he managed to fight off
the one that was in the trail who decided, much
like Tempor Warrior, to come to the outside rather than

(04:45):
the passing lane. And what would you know, the one
that snuck up three back on the mark has got
up the passing lane and slipped on pass and got
the chocolate. So a good run there from Dennis Denudo.
I think just that little bit of working over in
the first couple one hundred meters was as undoing, but
we got close. We got the place money, so if
you went each way you'd done pretty well. I think

(05:06):
that horse opened at nine dollars as well, so if
you got on early you would have had a good
place price and still made a little bit of profit
if you went each way. Tempo Warrior, we already covered
that off. And that was Gasso's best bet of the weekend.
And then Fitzi's best bet was a horse called Sweet Glory,
and this was really good run for third after being
parked a trip. Like I said earlier, really the markers

(05:29):
was the place to be and just couldn't cross them
at the start. Didn't have the gate speed so ended
up having to sit parked unfortunately, but was really strong
to hang on for third to get up its best
bets and Matt Daddy went to totrong our cx SQUI
and this horse just loves to run second. It was
actually chasing down a tear away lead on the turn,

(05:51):
but just didn't look comfortable with all to my eye.
I thought it might be better suited back in distance.
This horse, its last two starts over twenty one or
twenty two hundred have been good, but just didn't quite
seem to have that zip that it did over sixteen
hundred over that last couple of one hundred meters. So
be interesting to see what this horse does. But if

(06:11):
they step it back to the sixteen hundred or potentially
of an eighteen hundred, I will be betting on this
horse for sure. My best bet was the last race
at Flemington and it was Sons Duke and it was
just a gross watch. Never got clear. Ayeir. It's normally
a get back horse anyway, but it was a really
big feel and normally this horse just needs a little

(06:33):
bit of luck and needs some gaps to get through.
But it just wasn't its day. It just never got
a chance at them. The winner. I don't know if
so could have beaten it, because that was pretty impressive
the way that that got away from them in the end.
But I thought maybe with some clear air and Sons
do really quit last hundred, I thought maybe it might
have been able to sneak up into a place. But

(06:54):
it wasn't the day. Herbert didn't get the sherbet and
this was Kemy's best. It was race eight. It's got
nigative it the whole way in front. I thought maybe
this horse might get an uncontested lead with such a
small field, but no, no, no, that wasn't happening today.
That was its undoing. I reckon it's still stuck on
really well, but just yeah, had no peace throughout the

(07:15):
throughout the trip, and I think it really cost its
chance in the finish. Ted's best bet, on the other hand,
was the exact opposite. It was todong A meeting to
race nine. It was wild night and oh my, it
killed them. It got out really well and then took
a nice position before pushing out on the corner and
getting through nicely, and then yeah, it just really powered away,

(07:38):
putting some really powerful strides between the three hundred and
the two hundred, which really actually just put away the race.
And I think he has got some nice races ahead
of him. Looking forward to seeing wild Night over the
coming months. In the summer, the Goat's best bet was
todong a race eight. It was the Odyssey, and this

(07:59):
horse just had no luck as well. Similar story to Herbert,
except this horse was just that three wide the whole way.
He was really brave after making sustained run from about
the eight hundred because he was three wide and back
and had to push on and go around. It was
just an unlucky run. And I think, yeah, this horse
gets a different run in that race and he wins

(08:20):
it and puts that race away. But hopefully that means
now that we get a nice price for Pukakoe in
a few weeks. The Odyssey ROI on the best bets
so far. So what we're doing is we're putting an
imaginary one dollar each way bet on all of the
lad's best bets every week, and we are going to
be tracking our units of profit on the season, and

(08:43):
we have a new leader in the clubhouse and it
is Ted. Ted's leading the way with thirteen point five
units of profit. Kemmy is second with thirteen point three
units of profit, and the Scamman has snuck up into
a third four point three to one units of profit.
There's plenty of racing to come, so these leaderboards can

(09:03):
change complexion very quickly, so we'll see how we go
for the rest of the season. Right, Let's go jump
in now quickly and do a review of some of
the races over the weekend, and I'm mainly going to
focus on the three group ones out of Flemington. I
think they are all outstanding races and they deserve to
be spoken about. The NUBI first up and gold Rush

(09:27):
Guru is a serious stayer. It was three wide all
of the way around that first bend and then managed
to find a gap when the one outside the leader
sort of went up and started to put a little
bit more pace on, so it ended up in the
one out, one back position. But it was three wide
throughout that whole first bend right around, so when it

(09:50):
got in there, it actually settled really nicely, and then
it came around to about the six hundred meter mark,
when it peeled out and started its move forward and
man it was traveling. It just really ambled up and
at the four hundred asked for an effort and this
horse just put a couple of links on them in
a few very very powerful bounds. And Scary was another

(10:14):
one I thought was a great run. It came from
a long way back at the eight hundred to work
around the widest and charged and actually looked the chance
at the two hundred, but gold Rush Guru was just
powerful over the last hundred and looked like he was
going away from in the end. So it was a
great win for the South Australian horse. So you're really
good to see gold Rush Guru there. Take nothing away

(10:36):
from Scary. I thought that was an oct outstanding run
as well. Next that will take a quick look at
the Empire Rose and it was a very impressive win
from a great Kiwi bred mare and a tissue for
the go racing syndicators. She really had to work for
it as well, coming from a very very long way back.
Amelia as Joel almost turned back time and spoiled the party.

(11:02):
After getting a nice run on the markers and then
getting the gaps at the right time or Kestra unfortunately
just didn't run past the horse after settling last. A
really disappointing way to finish off her spring. I think
we'll see her go to the paddock now and it'll
be a while until she maybe comes back in the spring.
Outstanding win for a tissue, outstanding for go racing. And

(11:25):
it was really good even to see Amelie's Jewel come
back as well and almost turn back time there with
a very very impressive performance. I know a couple of
lads that have done their biscuits on Emilie's Jewel a
couple of time, and I hope they were not at
this time, because yeah, you would have been heartbroken again.

(11:46):
The cool More stud Stakes and what a powerful win
by Switzerland, a really nice cult. Chris Walla Walla make
a dollar and Jmax just at it again. They've just
got a stranglehold on this race. Got a lovely tripping
behind them and all the gaps at the right time.
It was a great ride by j Mack and to
be honest, that's just what we expect now. Bellatrick Star,

(12:09):
I thought was a little bit unlucky and had to
go all over the show in the run to actually
find a run. She never really got clear air, had
to change ground multiple times and then she still managed
to power up and get sickens. This horse is going
great guns. I'm not sure if she got perfectness she
would have beaten the winner, but it would have been

(12:31):
very interesting to see if she got the gaps at
the right time and was able to get through. She
is a superstar Philly. To be interesting to see where
they go with her now. The Growing Empire was outstanding
in for he's been third. Sorry, I think he's been
a great horse for this whole season and very consistent.
But yet the cool More Stud Stakes was an awesome,

(12:53):
awesome race and the racing from Flemington all day. I
thought the track played really fair and it's really exciting
now lead into Melbourne Cup which is tomorrow to see
that track continue to play fair as it did on
the weekend. It's going to be really good right events.
So let's start off with the Melbourne Cup and our

(13:13):
friends down at Brewco and Mount Monganui. You're hosting an event. Look,
none of myself, Luke or Mett that he's going to
be there. We're going to be at a different event
in Auckland, but if you are in the bad Plany
area and you want to go along to have a
few beers watch the racing, head down to Breuco and

(13:33):
Mount Monganui. They've got ten dollars heidikins for the whole
day and then they also have their signature barbecue platter
as well, which is four chicken wings, a half rack
of ReBs, smoke, turrizzo sausage, onion rings, a sauce selection, pickles, slaw,
handcut chips and milk buns. That sounds outstanding. So if
you're in the bad Plenty area and you want to

(13:54):
go find somewhere to go for Melbourne Cup Day, head
down to Breuco and support some supporters of boys get paid,
that's for sure. Melbourne Cup Day we are heading to
the full Time Sports Bar which is in Kingsland. This
is not a ticketed event, so if you want to
come along to the full Time Sports Bar just come

(14:16):
along in the morning. We're going to be doing a
live stream from around three pm to about four point
thirty pm the lead up to the Melbourne Cup where
we're just going to be chatting about all the events
that we've got coming up, maybe throwing out a few
bets and having a little bit of a punt along
for about an hour and a half. Myself, Matt, Daddy

(14:37):
and Kimmy's will be on the live stream as well
as the ACC lads Gilane and Menai Stewart will be
jumping in and out as well to share some of
their insights on the Melbourne Cup. I'm sure they've got
some funny things to say about what's going on on
the day as well. Now New Zealand Cup Week is
almost here. We're actually less than a week off from

(14:58):
when we kick off New Zealand Cup Week, which is
next Saturday, with the two thousand guineas the pot, like
I mentioned before, thirty two thousand, seven hundred and eighty
three dollars in the punters club already. The punters Club
is going to close on November fourteenth at midday, so
that Thursday midday is when the pot's going to close
and that's when we're going to be able to start punting.

(15:19):
Now we're going to be punting on all three codes,
the pups, the harness and the dogs Thursday, Friday and Saturday,
and as always, our mission is to return the most
money we can from the punting over those three days.
We are hoping we can relive some of the highlights
from two years ago when we had an outstanding week

(15:42):
on the Pup. On the punt, we backed gold Star
Carlito at the Pups, we backed Cyrus at the Harness,
and we backed He's a Doozy at the gallops as well,
all for some big collects. Unfortunately, that year, the Saturday
meeting was abandoned and we already we had some bets
on some horses, and when they rerun the race, I

(16:04):
think it was on the Monday, A couple of them one,
so I think we would have been in more profit.
But we had a really outstanding week a year. That year.
I think we turned two hundred and thirty odd thousand
into seven hundred and thirty odd thousand. We had about
five hundred thousand dollars profit. We're hoping we can relive
that for the Pundas Club now. We're also going to
be down there from Thursday down to Saturday as well,

(16:27):
and we're hosting events at the Dogs the Pups Love,
as Kimmy's likes to do. Thursday the Dogs. Tickets are
available to one hundred and seventy dollars for an all
inclusive experience or all your drinks and all your food
and plus a private BGP members area as well. If
you want tickets for the dogs, it's really easy. You
need to email Sarah at christ Church Greyhounds dot coded

(16:48):
in Z to book your spot. So it's sarahh at
christ Church Greyhounds dot coded INZ to book your spot
for the pups on Thursday night and I'm sure it's
going to be a good night the harness. On Friday,
it's the all new Twilight Show Day meeting where they're
featuring the two five hundred thousand dollars slot races, the
Ascent and the Velocity. We're going to be in full

(17:11):
swing by Friday. Hopefully we've collected a bit of cash
from Thursday one hundred and fifteen dollars. One hundred and
fifteen dollars per person includes food throughout the day and
then you also get four drinks vultures as well. We're
in the grass right in front of the winning post
and we're going to be screening home winners, particularly some
of these horses coming up the passing lane. So that's

(17:31):
the Cup Week Punters Club and the Cup Weeek events
as well, grab your tickets as soon as you can.
I'm sure it's going to be really popular. There's gonna
be a lot of people down there as well. Also
you'll see tickets and information is available in the BGP app.
Also across our Facebook, we've got Facebook Events for them
as well, so all the details of these events are
there as well as well what you'll see in the

(17:53):
app and events as well as the Krack Millions. Krack
Millions tickets are now available and I think almost half
of them are gone already, so if you want to
come along to the Kadaka Millions, make sure you jump
on now and grab your ticket as soon as you
can because they will sell out. In addition, there are
tickets now available for Champions Day which is the all
new n ZB Kiwi as well as a host of

(18:15):
other Group one racers on that day as well, so
you can jump on and get your early bird tickets
for that as well. Right, Melbourne Cup, So I've done
a bit of a ring around just with the lads
and asked everyone for who they're picking in the Malwyn Cup,
and no surprise, everyone's pretty much got a different selection.

(18:37):
So we'll go through and I'll read off the lad's
top three selections for the Melbourne Cup and I'm probably
actually just going to do a boxed trifecta with these
runners here and just see how we go. But Kimmy's
is sticking with Zardozi, who running the Empire Rows on Saturday.
Interesting way to get to a Melvin Cup, but I
think they wanted to get a run into her. Daddy

(19:00):
has gone and stuck with the Key we Sharp and Smart,
who went really well run third at the Valley. I've
gone with Kovalika, Markham has gone for Akiitya Sushi. The
Goat and FITZI are with Seeking scan Man is with Bukaroo,
and Ted the Great Man is back this one at
two hutud and one and I think it's now into

(19:21):
twenty or thirty dollars as interpretation. He reckons that this
one's improving at the right time and is his peck
and his bet in the Melbourne Cup. Also on Tuesday,
we're going to have a blessed bet from punti Q
in Australia, so keep an eye out for that. Hopefully
it's going to be coming through shortly and I'll be
getting it out on social Media's so we can follow

(19:44):
one from Australia on Melbourn Cup Day that we can
sink ol teeth into another one. We actually think WIT's
End is a good bet in the first race on
a good track at Allieley tomorrow. So if you're looking
for something to punt on and build a bank early
in the morning, Wits then the first race at Allisleie
have it go right. We've also got a North Versus

(20:05):
South podcast series coming up this week. So far I've
got Wednesday we've got Tony Pike, Thursday we've got Scott
Feelin and then Friday we've got Reese Trumper out of Tiakal.
I'm gonna be going through and chatting about all of
the horses already, of the runners that they've got going
down south to take on the New Zealand Cup week carnival.
So keep an air out and you might hear some

(20:27):
little snippets of value from the trainers as they give
us their best bets and just discuss some of the
chances that they have down there as well. I'm going
to be going through a few more trainers and seeing
if i can get someone else in there as well.
But at this stage we've got Tony Pike, Scott Field
and Reese Trumper locked in and I'll see what I
can do to lock in anymore. The podcast will be

(20:48):
back this week. As we lead in to this week
two thousand guineas, keep an eye out for the best
of BGP as long along with the Friday Phillip. Don't
forget to your tickets to the event as soon as possible.
Every week as well, comment your best bets for a
chance to win a hundred dollars free bit. Again. We
had another winner last week with wild Night. I think

(21:08):
we got it at five's so Robo. I think his
name was one five hundred bucks. So make sure you
comment you get a chance to win one hundred dollar
bit on your best bet. Thanks for joining us, happy
punting and good luck if you have a crack in
the Melbourne Cup, the hardest race to punt on. Cheers
