Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, episode six of the Monday Recap. We're going
to go through and have a look at some of
the feature races from the weekend, as well as a
quick review of the best bets from the lads, and
we'll also have a look through the Harness Halo and
the Blessed Bet as well and have a little bit
of a chat if there's anything that we can follow
over the next couple of weeks. Let's get the elephant
(00:23):
out of the room first of all, and has things
Obviously was abandoned on Saturday. It was extremely disappointing. In particular,
I think for all the connections and punters that turned
up on course and maybe paid their money to be
there for the day, people that maybe flew down there
and got hotels and invested and spent all of this
(00:43):
money only to go there, get one race out of
the way and then have to go home unfortunately. I think,
first of all, it is most important that the horses
and jockeys are safe, so I don't necessarily have a
problem with the decision if it's unsafe to call it
off and not go through with it, because you know
(01:06):
their safety is paramount. They're the ones that put their
lives on the line. If they don't feel comfortable and safe,
then we shouldn't be racing. That being said, it's extremely
disappointing that this sort of thing is happening, particularly when
I think the weather was pretty good throughout the week.
It wasn't necessarily a cancelation through you know, wild weather
(01:27):
events and stuff which you can't control. So yeah, they yeah,
they got a bit of work to do to try
and figure that out and sort that out. Nonetheless, we
get Group one racing on Wednesday at Matamata, and with
the fields, I think we'll be coming out on Monday
today at around lunchtime or one o'clock, so keep an
eye out for them. Of course, Bell's Fate which was
(01:51):
Matt Daddy's best bet, and Kemy's one. I can't remember
the name of it off the top of my head,
but I think that that's one that you can follow
through on Wednesday as well. I'm not sure exactly what's
happening with barrier draws and stuff. I assume they just
have to redo everything from scratch. I don't know if
that's the same for the Group one, but I guess
(02:12):
we'll find out later today. What is going on, but
it'll be good to have a little Monday fill up
and have a bit of a punt on Wednesday. Sorry Monday, Philip,
Wednesday fill up, have a little bit of a punt
at matamatter on Wednesday. All right, let's go jump in
and have a quick review of the Blessed Bet and
the Harness Halo, and we'll start with the Harness Halo.
(02:34):
On Friday night, was Addington raced ten mister Kaplan and
we've just we've come so close again. We've run third.
He had to work a little bit harder than I
wanted to get to the lead and it was telling
at the end when he got swamped. We got close.
This week we're run third. I think we're getting closer.
So keep following the Harness Holo and we're going to
(02:55):
get ourselves back on track next week. The Blessed Bet
the Goat found out one here with am I in it,
and the Goat is back and back big time. It
had to do a better work this horse from its
barrier drawer, but proved to be far too good. In
the end. Am I in It actually drifted to start
time to around six dollars for the win. So if
you got on the win as well as the Blessed Bet,
(03:18):
then it was a great way to kick off your
Saturday going through and chatting about the ROI of the
Blessed Bet and Harness Halo. So far, we're basically doing
a one unit bet per week on the Blessed Bet
and on the Harness Halo. We take the result minus
the investment, giving us the units of profit. Now, if
(03:38):
you had a one unit bet each week on the
Blessed Bet, you would be six units in profit. So
if you had one hundred dollar bet, which is the
max bet for the Blessed Bet, every week, you would
have six hundred dollars worth of profit for the season.
So far. How good. A very profitable exercise betting on
the Blessed Bet every week. If you're on the Harness Halo,
(04:02):
that's another story. Unfortunately, at the moment we had negative
three units. So again, if you had one hundred bucks
each week, you would be down three hundred dollars unfortunately,
But there's plenty of time. It's a long season. There's
a lot of really good racing coming up, and I'm
sure the harness lads will start to find us some
winners over the coming weeks. Right, let's go jump in
(04:26):
and review the best bets, and we'll start with Friday
with Fitzie, and it was reck Law's dream and look,
this horse ended up just being far too good for them.
It actually took a sit and there was a bit
of speed on early, but this horse, frankd it's good
trial form and then put them away easily. Then we'll
(04:47):
move on to race eight and it was Gasso and
he had Muwanga. Look, it was unlucky to end up
where it did, and you know, it got away really
quickly and ended up finding the markers, which probably was
it's undoing in the worst place for him, because he
sort of ended up five or six back on the inside,
(05:07):
never really found clear air. When he did for a
few strides, he powered home and came home nicely. But
I reckon we follow this horse into some of the
big races. I think he's got a bit of ability,
and as it stands, I think we've got a pretty
even crop of top grade horses. So this guy, yeah,
maybe watch him going to Ashburton or potentially Kai Kora,
(05:29):
But yeah, I think this one is one that we
can follow moving forward. And then the scan man found
us one coming back in class, worked hard, pushed a
button early, pushed onto the lead and then ended up
doing it easily. It got some really cheap sectionals in
the middle there, so yeah, really well done to scan
Man for finding us another winner. And then Markham's best
(05:52):
in the last It was Katari kalso and this was
an easy watch for the last of the night. Markham
gets on the board for the season with an nice winner.
Really good to see Markham get one home there. And
then of course we turned to the Gallop's best bets
and we seen Ted's Leavakia. Go man, this horse just
(06:13):
seems to be a little bit unlucky. I think we'll
follow this one moving forward. But it managed to still
run third. But I think we'll be looking for this
one moving forward as well. I think we continue to
follow it. And then of course on Sunday I had
Snazzy Tavvy and she got backed in from three dollars
eighty I think into about two dollars maybe even money,
(06:36):
and she got back on the markers again. There was
a bit of tempo and she managed to stick to
the rail, sneak up the inside and just really put
them away quite easily. In the end, so really exciting
to see Snazzy Tavvy. Hopefully now she'd be going forward
to the Livermore where I believe she's about seven dollars.
I've got a couple of futures bets on her, but
(06:57):
I think I'll be piling her into it more the
Livermore because she looks back to her best. And then
of course we've seen the Goat's Best, which was am
I in it, which was the blessed best bet which
got the boys paid early, and then unfortunately, kind Thoughts
and VAL's fate both were scratched at Hastings, but they'll
be back at Mata Matter on Wednesdays, So follow kind
(07:22):
Forts and Beal's fate on Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing
them and seeing how they go the ROI for the
best bets this week. Let's go and take a look
through the leaderboard and see how everyone's traveling this week.
Of course, I had my first winner for the season
last week, which was nice to start to promote me
(07:43):
up the leaderboard. As it stands though, Kemmy's is leading
the way with thirteen point three units of profit TED
running second ten point five to five units of profit,
and the Scanman's in third with six point one six
units of profit. It's a long season and anything can happen,
so I'll be looking to work my way up the leaderboard.
(08:03):
And I'm sure now that the Goats found a winner,
this is his time to shine, and I reckon through
these next four or five weeks, we're going to see
this leader board maybe change shape a little bit. So
let's see how we go, right. I'd love to say
that i'd be reviewing the Group one arrowfield from the
weekend and the Hastings Guineas or the Hawks Bay Guineas,
(08:24):
but I'm so I'm going to go through and have
a little bit of a chat about the Group one
racing from Australia and just some of the other performances
that I noticed from the weekend as well. The Manicato
I thought it was a great win from south Port
Tycoon to come from where it was and fly and
get up on the line and get over the top
was outstanding. Had a good run in the race. I
(08:45):
think Growing Empire lost no admirers. That was strong to
the line as well, and I thought I wish I
win was huge from how far back he was, and
he's right in this and on track for the Everest
if he gets any other rather than one or maybe two.
I think he is right in the mix for the
(09:06):
Everest and I can't wait to back him. Also on
Friday night we've seen the Kiwi Philly Balatrix Star and
how good was she? She backed up the form from
Flemington on a wet track. I think there were question
marks about maybe she just performed really well because of
the wet track and it was a bit of a
(09:27):
watch and see how she goes on top of the ground,
But she was just as good on top of the ground,
and she proved that she's really right up to this
lot over there and we might even see her up
in grade over the Flemington Carnival. So really good to
see Balatrick Star and Mark Walker, Sam Burgerson and from
Tiaco getting a job done over an Aussie and flying
(09:48):
the Kiwi flag. And then later on the Friday night
we also seen Pride of Jenny and missed the bright Side.
That was an awesome race. Such a shame Tony see
four horses in the race, because I think it really
changes the complexion of the race. But she's just an
amazing horse around the Valley third up. It's going to
be exciting to see her over the two thousand meters
(10:11):
back here in about a month's time for the Coxplate.
I think she's right on track. I don't think we
need to take anything away from mister Bridside. He has
gone huge. He had to do all the donkey work
chasing her down and I think he'll be better with
a bigger field and then something to drag him into
the race, I think is the key and the difference
between him getting over the top late. The other one
(10:34):
that I wanted to talk about was a horse that
I have got a huge opinion of. I think this
horse is an absolute superstar and it's broadsiding. It was
in the group one out of rose Hill on the
weekend and this is a really special horse. And it
was a brilliant ride from Jmack because he was back
on the fence and managed to get off at a
(10:54):
really crucial time and then as they were coming around
the corner ended up getting on the back of his
stale stablemate traffic Warden would shut him up perfectly to
just get over the top of them. I thought Stormboy
was brilliant after having to do a bit of work traffic.
Warden was outstanding as well, but I think they are
just a little bit behind Broadsiding. I really do think
(11:17):
this horse is an absolute superstar. I've back Broadsiding early
in the cox plate market at about eight dollars. I
think he's now into six dollars now for the cox plate.
I think from now he goes on to the Corfield Guineas,
where I think he's even maybe two dollars favorite now
for the Corfield Guineas. I think if he goes on
(11:38):
and wins that Corfield Guineas, he's probably going to shorten
the cox plate market and might even end up being
favorite depending on what he does to them in the
Cox plate. Also a quick shout out to Rhino BGP legend.
This guy's been a part of BGP for a long
time and he had a winner on the weekend with
(11:59):
Let's Get in the Last race at Woodville on Sunday. Look,
this horse has been knocking on the door as well
the Chrissy Banbury. So yeah, well done Rhino mate. Good
on you, and yeah, I hope you enjoyed some nice
cold bears after after getting a win there with Let's
Get Loose. All right, some horses to follow out of
(12:19):
the weekend. One of them, obviously I've just spoken about,
which is Broadsiding. I think this horse is a superstar
and I think he actually might be the horse of
the spring. So let's see how we go into the
cock's plate. But yeah, I think that this horse is
an absolute superstar. The other one I wanted to mention
that I think we could follow is a horse called
wag Star. This horse was a big winner and he
(12:42):
looks like he's got a really bright future the way
he won on the weekend. He went to twenty point
three for the nineteen eighty, which is very very fast,
and actually there was a three year old race on
the night where all sort of the gun three year
olds were in and this was three point eight seconds
far than they went over the nineteen eighty. So I'm
exciting to see if he can go on with it
(13:04):
the season and take a step up to the big time.
I got a bit trigger happy on Friday night after
a couple of beers watching the racing, and after I
seen that, I went on and backed them in the
New Zealand Cup. I think he's paying thirty one dollars. Geez,
he's going to need a nice race to actually make
the field for the New Zealand Cup, but the way
he went on Friday, he just looks like he's got
(13:25):
a big motor. So I'm looking forward to seeing him
over the New Zealand Cup week as well on the
potentially on the big day on the Tuesday, or if
not even on the Friday and the New Zealand Free
for All. I think this is a horse that we
can follow moving forward. Not going to get huge prices,
I don't think after seeing that performance, but yeah, he's
(13:45):
a nice horse. Remember as well. Reminder every week we
give away a free hundred dollars bet just by commenting
on our social media posts. If you comment your best
bet when you see those posts going around, we select
one person and put one hundred dollars on their best
bet every week. We've had four winners from the last
(14:06):
six weeks, so keep an eye out from that. This
week we had Sunset Boulevard at Race one at Hastings
and it couldn't quite get the job done for punters
before eventually the races were abandoned there at Hastings. So
one hundred dollars up for grabs every week just by
commenting on one of our posts. Events right, Everest Day
(14:29):
is only a couple of weeks away now, and we're
doing King of the Punt which is on October nineteenth,
which is Everest Day. We've already sold over ninety tickets
already and I think we're going to end up with
about one hundred and fifty people. One course for the
King of the Punt getting quickly before they sell out.
Tickets are available in the app and a course on
(14:52):
Facebook as well. It's fifty five dollars per ticket. You
get a meal and a drink on the day. Grab
your ticket. We've also just done a video last week
explaining all the rules for the King of the Punt
that's going to get punched out in an email today
so that people can jump on and view that. But
also you can find that video on Facebook as well
(15:13):
where I go sit down and have a chat with
the Goat and talk through how the King of the
Punt rules work. On the day of course, you'll start
with one hundred bucks in your tab account and whoever
turns that over into the most money by the last
race that you can bet on, which is the Everest
We are going to see who turns that over into
(15:35):
the most money that would be the winner. Prizes are awesome.
You're getting two thousand dollars bonus cash courtesy of the tab,
two thousand dollars cash from BGP. There's a BEG paid
number plate up up for grabs courtesy of the Goat,
and then there's also a fishing charter with wish for
fish going out on their eighteen meter catamaran out of
here Auckland or Taronga for a day's fishing with you
(15:58):
and a bunch of your mate So the awesome prize
for people to get stuck into fifty five dollars gets
you a ticket and entry into the room. Of course,
if you want to come along with a bunch of
your friends and maybe not all of you want to
get involved in the competition, that's no problem. You can
buy a ticket, come along for the day, Your friends
can get involved in the competition and you could just
be a part of the atmosphere. We want to get
(16:19):
as many young people along as we can, so get involved.
Also events New Zealand Cup Week we're doing a punts
club from Thursday through to Saturday, so it'll be the
Ashburton Harness. The dogs on Thursday night, the Harness on Friday,
and then of course New Zealand Cup Day on Saturday,
where hopefully we'll see Cheval de fu Dre kick their
(16:41):
heads in a then New Zellan Cup unlikely, but you
never know. Tickets are now available for Thursday at the Dogs.
It's one hundred and seventy dollars and it's an all
inclusive experience. All your drinks, all your food, you get
access to the BGP members area one hundred and seventy bucks.
Really good value. If you're keen to come along to
the Ups on a Thursday night with the lads, send
(17:02):
an email to Sarah at christ Church Greyhounds dot cod
and z to book your spot. That's h at christ
Church Greyhounds dot coded and z to book your spot
for the Dogs. Of course, we've also got the Friday Harness,
which is the new Twilight meeting featuring two five hundred
thousand dollars slot races. We've seen a few snot slot
(17:25):
announcements on Friday Night lights. We're really excited to be
a part of this new racedown. Of course, the Punters
Club will be in action as well. Tickets are one
hundred and fifteen dollars and it includes food throughout the
day and you're going to get four drinks vouchers as well.
We're on the grass right in front of the winning post.
We want to have a big crew from BGP there
(17:47):
absolutely screaming home, some winners coming up the passing lane,
and of course we've got the two five hundred k
slot races, the Ascent and the Velocity, which we're really
excited to see as well. The Saturday at the Gallops,
we're not going to be hosting event. We'll be doing
some content and doing the Punters Club as well, but
we're just not hosting an event because it always sells
(18:08):
out and it's a little bit difficult to operate and
get an event where we have a good space in
a good room. So that's it. The podcast is going
to take a break this week. The lads are going
to have a little bit of a chilled one this
week as we start to get busy into the season
and we'll ramp up towards the Livermore and then of
course into the Everest and then keep an eye out
(18:30):
also for the Best of BGP, along with a Friday
Phillips which will be coming out every Friday. Thanks for
joining us, don't forget to get your tickets to the events.
Comment on our post every week for a chance to
win one hundred dollars for just commenting your best bet.
Happy punting, and we'll see you back next week.
