Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, episode four of the BGP Monday Recap. I'll
be going through some of the feature races and then
a quick review of the best bets from the lads
and some notes to take away from their performances.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
We'll also chat.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Through anything we thought that needs to go in to
the Black Book from the weekends racing. We'll kick it
off and start talking about a review of the Blessed
Bet and the Harness Halo. Of course, we had the
Harness Halo on Friday night at Addington Race number eight
and it was masterly and well. Look, it pretty much
went to script except for the last fifty meters when

(00:34):
Mussel Sas came off his back after trailing the whole
way and got over the top of him late. Masterly
done well, and I think we can follow this one
moving forward because he's going to pick up a race
in his next couple of starts.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
We move on to the.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Blessed Bet and it was at Rickiten Race number two
when stars aligned, and yeah, you can't say much except
for he just never really looked comfortable on the track,
looked like he didn't really handle the track at all.
But I think we'll follow over it again when he
gets up over ground. On the Blessed Bet and the
Harness Halo. We've got the ROI so far for the season,

(01:09):
so we're four weeks in now to the Blessed Bet
and the Harness Halo. We're doing the math based on
one unit bet per week on the Blessed Bet and
on the Harness Halo, and then we take the result
minus the investment each week, which gives us a total
number of units profit. At the moment, the Blessed Bet
is in the black and we've got five units of profit.

(01:31):
So if you had one hundred dollars bet on the
Blessed Bet every week so far, you would have five
hundred dollars worth of profit. The Harness Halo is currently
carrying some negative equity, like I think maybe a few
homeowners throughout Auckland are at the moment, but it's only
negative one unit, and we're going to be looking to

(01:52):
bounce back this week. Right, Let's go jump in and
have a quick review of the lad's best bets over
the weekend and the scan Man we already covered that
with masterly.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
We think it led.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
It done everything that we thought it would do, except
for that last fifty meters.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Move on to my best bet, which was Alexandra Park
a race four. See you there.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Look it was slow out of the gate and over
the seventeen hundred. That's not ideal because it ended up
three back on the markers and the first quarter was
in thirty point four in the second thirty one point five,
which over seventeen hundred meters at Alexandra Park is going
to make it very very difficult for anything to come
from too far back, particularly when they run a twenty

(02:36):
seven to four last quarter, so of the seventeen hundred
it made the job impossible.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
It got quite far back.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
But I think this one is one to follow because
I think it is going to pick up a race
in its next couple of starts and we should get
some good odds. FITZI went to Addington Race Sex and
it was confessional and look this horse jump well. There
was a bit of pace on early and it got
around to the when the pace slackened a little bit.
It was traveling ral on the home bend and it

(03:05):
just had the wrong one on its back with Mighty
Logan who got over the top of him. And Mighty
Logan's been going really well as well, but again confessional
great run, take nothing away from it. I think we
can follow this one moving forward as well. Next up
we had Gaso which was Ray seven and it was
VESSM and look at left the gate powerfully and then
ended up taking a trail behind the Doune runner and

(03:28):
it really had to work up the passing lane to
get past them, but nevertheless we got two dollars eighty
and got backed into a dollar seventy five. And it
was great tipping from Gaso because VESSM got the boys paid.
And then we had Markham's best on Sunday at Omaru,
which is Rock and Rolled on and unfortunately this feller

(03:50):
galloped away and lost about ten links which made the
task even harder, but he ended up parked for the
final lap and as they came around the corner he
just sort of faded and struggled to go on with it,
which you can't blame him after losing that much ground
and having to have such.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
A tough run. A horse to watch out for in
that race was the winner. It was called Hugo. Now
this one galloped the way.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
As well and actually lost even more ground than Rock
and Roll, don it. I think it lost about fifteen
links or more and it had to chase hard to
catch up to them. It finally tacked on with a
battle lap left to go, and it was still last
on the corner and ended up coming over the top
of them to win. So I think this horse is

(04:34):
one that we can follow out of this race. It's
Hugo and that was its debut run. I think, so
let's follow Hugo and see how that one goes moving forward.
Matt Daddy went to Tapa on Sunday and it was
Joshua Brown and well, this was a huge win. It
looked like it had a bit of a flat spot
when it started to sprint on the final bend, but

(04:55):
then it started to pick up and got moving forward
and it came into the outside which may have been
the better part of the track, but still had a
lot of work to do at the top of the
turn and absolutely flew home and ended up doing it
quite easily on the line. So Joshua Brown very good
horse going forward. It's not often you see horses come

(05:17):
from that far back in the early races at Tarapa,
so I think Joshua Brown is definitely one to follow
moving forward. My best bet was Sun's Dute, and look,
I'm not really sure she handled the track. She'd was
never a part of the race and she just really
didn't show her customary powerful finish, so I think that

(05:38):
we can forgive her this week on a wet track.
It was a wild day at Flemington. There was all
sorts going on there. I think I heard someone say
that it was maybe hailing or snowing or God only.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Knows, but didn't like it.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Is looking for a little bit more of a warmer climate,
so I think we'll follow her on a better track
down the straight Keimmy's. We covered that with stars Line
and then unfortunately we had the abandonmentute New Plymouth, so
both Irrigate and Harmonious for the Ted and for Goat
never got their.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Chance to go around. It is what it is.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
We can't control the weather, so we'll just continue moving forward.
Right ROI from the lads for the best bet so far,
and we'll start with myself because I am colder than
an ice cube at the moment. I don't think I've
picked a winner yet this year, but I'm looking forward
to getting back on track at the Big E so

(06:32):
hopefully I can turn my situation around. One situation that
probably doesn't need to be turned around as Kimmy's because
he is leading the way with eight point eighty five
units of profit, Ted close second with six point nine
to five units of profit, and Gasso now has slipped
into third place with five point six five units of profit.

(06:55):
And again, how we're tracking the units of profit. We
are just putting a one unit bet each way each
week on the lad's best bets, and then we're doing
the result minus the investment equals the total units profit.
So Kemmy's leading the way with eight point eight five
units of profit, Ted seconds six point nine to five units,

(07:16):
and Gaso third with five point six five units of profit.
I reckon all of the team will be looking to
get their way further up the leaderboard as we go
into the season. Right quickly, a review of the weekend's
feature races, and we'll start with the Canterbury Bell Stakes
down at Record and it was a great win from Rasiah.

(07:38):
Had all favors, Oh sorry, I had all favors because
it did actually get the run of the race, I
would say, in behind them out on the better part
of the track and got a toe into it at
the right time.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
It was a good ride.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
And look to its credit, it looked like it had
been headed halfway down the strait by Dream of the Moon,
but it really did fight back and it ended up
winning quite impressively there as I Dream of the Moon
race well, and I think it's one that we could follow.
Second up, and then the other one I actually thought
went pretty well was Lavender Hayes.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
It was a great run really for third.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
She was wide with no cover the whole way, and
I thought she fought on really bravely. So I think
Lavender Hayes is one I'm going to follow moving forward.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Well.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Next up, we'll take a look at the Mackaybee Divas
Steaks and mister Bright's side. Wow, he was back to
his absolute best prior to Jenny jumping out and putting
the pace on early, which is her customary racing pattern.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Now and we're getting used to that. It was interesting
to see so many people ride.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Her off after a fresh up run. I don't think
she's been known for being brilliant fresh up, but she
really came on after her first start and she's given
them something to chase. Mister Brightside got a good drag
up by Antino, which I think may have been the
winning of the race because normally miss the Brightside has
to pull the rest of the contingent up, but this

(09:05):
time he got to drag up from Antino, which I
think gave him the opportunity to really power home that
last eight hundred and get over the top. I think
he cemented himself as probably the best horse over a
mile in Australia now. And the other one that I
thought was a bit of a flat run was Va Sestina.

(09:25):
Not sure if she likes the heavy track or maybe
just she was so brilliant first up that maybe she
just regressed a little bit in her second start and
now she's looking for.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
A little bit more distance. It's going to be interesting
to see.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
I think Pride to Jenny's going to really improve off
that run into longer distances, and I also think Via
Sistina is going to improve up and distance as well.
And don't forget mister Brightside has run really well over
the two thousand meters, so he is also a good
cox Plate chance.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
But look, Jenny.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Missed the Brightside Via Sistina all going forward and moving
forward to the coxplat, I think this year's Coxplate is
going to be an absolute ripper. The other one out
of that race that I thought I would just make
note of was Warmonger. He had the last, the fastest
last two hundred in the race, and he looks right
on track for a tilt at the Corfield Cup and

(10:19):
is currently an eight dollar favorite for the Corfield Cup
as well. I don't think I've seen many horses win
a Derby the way that he did in Queensland. Warmonger,
I think is going to be an absolute threat in
the Corfield Cup if he keeps going the way that
he's going right the car cap Dan tb Steaks hardly

(10:41):
say that. And Bellatrix's Star was really impressive second up.
She really relished the wet track and Michael d rode
a perfect race, just coulted her up so she could
use her really sharp sprint that she has and when
he asked her the question, she really powered that last
two hundred and put them away.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
By the end.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
She won by over a length and it was great
to see the kiwis putting their hands up in oz
and I think we got a good quote of around
fourteen dollars. I was absolutely screaming her home and that
was a great win. The three hundred dollars bets every week,
so I don't know if you've noticed, but every week
we put a post across all of our social media

(11:22):
asking you what your best bet is, and we pick
one winner each week two and then we'll put one hundred.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Dollar bet on your best bet.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
So whatever you put in the comments, we select one
winner each week they get a hundred dollar bet. This
week we had Unusual Legacy and it came home from
the last and very impressively at Randwick for Aaron Viles.
I think that's a really good horse to follow, Unusual Legacy.
I think maybe I seen someone put in the group
earlier today or yesterday about this horse maybe going to

(11:54):
the Metropolitan at Royal Randwick. I think so that might
be worth a bit. I think it's about thirteen fourteen
dollars in that race at the moment.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
And we're also four from four I think for the
one hundred dollars free bets, so we've had four in
a row now of the people in the community tipping
out their best bets, the winners have won four in
a row. So how good to see loads of people
getting some cash from just simply commenting their best bets
events coming up right, The next event that we have,

(12:25):
or the first event for this season, is going to
be Everest Day at Alizi for King of the Punt
and it's on October the nineteenth. Tickets are available now
and they're fifty five dollars per person. The ticket gives
you entry into the King of the Punt room.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
It also gives you a.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Meal, and it gives you a free drink vulture as well. Now,
once you've purchased your ticket and you turn up into
the room on the day, entry into the King of
the Punt is one hundred dollars, So you basically invest
one hundred dollars using your tab account on the day
and you start with that money which you're going to
punt and turn over throughout the day. And whoever turns

(13:04):
over that one hundred dollars into the most money by
the end of the day, and the end of the
day being the Everest which islast day, the last race
that we can punt on, will be crowned the King
of the Punt and we have a four thousand dollars prize,
two thousand dollars of bonus cash courtesy of the tab
and two thousand dollars cash from BGP, so a four

(13:28):
thousand dollars prize for the King of the Punt. You
can enter as an individual or you can enter as
a team, and if you get wiped out and you
blow your dough early in the day, you can reinvest
throughout the day as well to stay in the competition.
So that's Everest Day, Allesley King of the Punt, October
the nineteenth. The tickets are available now. The ticket links

(13:52):
across all of our social media, so go in there,
buy a ticket, get your ticket to the room and
it should be a great day and we'll see who's
going to be crowned the King of the Punt. The
next events we have coming up is New Zealand Cup
Week and we'll be running a National Punters Club from
Thursday through to Saturday, so the Ashburton Harness on the Thursday,

(14:13):
the Pups on Thursday night, the Harness on Friday at
Addington and then of course New Zealand Cup Day and
thousand Guineas Day at Rickerton on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
We're looking to repeat what the.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Boys did a few years ago with the National Punters
Club where we took the ptab for a bit of
a ride. We'll be looking to do that again over
a few days down at New Zealand. Cup Week now
events Thursday at the Dog tickets are available. There are
one hundred and seventy dollars. It's an all inclusive experience,
so all your drinks, all your food, everything's included and

(14:44):
entry into the private BGP area. If you want a ticket,
there are one hundred and seventy dollars. You just need
to email Sarah h at christ Church Greyhounds dot cod
at ENDZ to book your spot. Tickets are now of
able as well for the Friday Harness. Find them on
the Boys Get Paid Facebook page. You'll see a link

(15:06):
to the tickets. The tickets for the Harness on Friday
or one hundred and fifteen dollars per person that includes
food throughout the day.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
It also includes four drinks vouchers.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
We're going to be in the grass right in front
of the winning post screaming home winners. And this is
a twilight meeting as well that features two new five
hundred thousand dollars slot races, the Ascent and the Velocity.
Really looking forward to Cup Week, get your tickets, get
involved and get down there. I'm sure the lads are
going to have an absolute blast. I'll be down there,

(15:37):
Kimmis will be down there, Maddie Daddy will be down there,
and Fitzi will be down there as well. Hopefully some
of the other crew will be down there as well,
supporting the lads and trying to find some winners horses
to follow out of the weekend, and Ted's given us
a few that he noticed from Matamata on Friday. One

(15:57):
of them was Levaci, which was three wide without cover,
full wide turning in and hit the line strongly over
the over the twelve hundred to get up for second.
The winner had a soft run in front and fourteen
hundred looks ideal for her next start. Also worth noting
from that same race, so just quickly Lavarci, that is

(16:18):
one to follow up to the fourteen hundred next start.
The other one from that same race was a horse
called Misunderstood. She was on debut and did a fair
bet wrong and was doing her best work late to
finish fifth. Lavaci and Misunderstood ran identical times for the
last six hundred, which was the fastest of the race.

(16:39):
So out of that race Lavaci and misunderstood both horses
to follow, and then later on the card there was
C Exquiz resumed over the fourteen hundred and put in
a big run to finish third.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
The Big Mayor had no luck.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
On the running, being three and four wide and then
was really wide turning in and still managed to close
off strongly for a third, placing a length from the winner.
Is it CX Exquisite? I don't even know how to
say that name. Whatever, we'll move on right. That's it
for the week. The Best of BEGP will be back

(17:21):
this week along with the Friday Phillip. The podcast is
back on Thursday as well. Matt, Daddy, Kemys and myself
will be taking a look through a return to the
Big E. Thanks for joining us. Don't forget to get
your tickets for all of the events. Comment your best
bets every week for a chance to win a three
hundred dollars bet. Happy punting and we'll see you back

(17:43):
next week.
