Speaker 1 (00:00):
Broto Happy Monday and welcome back to episode two of.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
The BGP Monday Recap.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
We'll all go through and discuss the weekends racing, a
quick review of the best bets from the lads and
any notes to take away from their performances. We'll also
chat through anything we've seen over the weekend and hopefully
point out a few notable market changes a result of
the weekends racing. What a weekend it was for the
lads and ge wears. I think a few punters got paid.
(00:29):
We'll go jump straight in now and we'll talk about
a review of the Blessed Bet and the Harness Halo,
and of course we had the Harness Halo on Friday night.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Fits He gave us this one.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
He gave us a big push for it was adding
to Race seven double time and look it pretty much
went to script this week. There was a few nervous
moments in the first fifty meters because the horse sort
of galloped away a little bit for a few strides
before finding its gear and then it got to the
lead with about two thousand meters to go let up
(00:59):
and then hold on to win. We did, of course
have double time to run top two as our blessed bet,
but it did win and the boys got paid. Moving
on to Wanganui, Race six was number six Harmonious. We
had Blessed to run top three and it was a
great ride by Lily. There was a bit of heat
(01:21):
in the first few hundred meters and Harmonious sort of
bailed out of that speed battle and sat them behind
them and the horse hit the lead halfway down the
street and looked like it was going to go on
with it. But that's why we took the top three
and again the boys get paid three dollars fifty in
the end was outstanding value for Harmonious and over the
(01:42):
weekend as well. Actually there was about three hundred bits
on the Harness Halo in about three hundred bits on
the Blessed Bet this weekend and the tab paid out
fifty k to the faithful followers.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Outstanding.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Now, I'm also going to be doing a live ROI
tracking each of how the Blessed Bets and the Harness
Halo are going. Get an idea throughout the whole season
of whether or not following the Blessed Bet and the
Harness Halo are profitable. So what I'm basically going to
be doing is taking out the amount that we win
(02:20):
if there is a result minus the investment, to give
us a sum of profit per unit. And at this stage,
after two weeks of the Blessed bet, you should have
a one point five unit profit, which is outstanding. And
then also for the Harness Halo, we missed the first week,
we hit week two and so you should have a
(02:41):
one unit profit for the Harness Halo as well. So
again that's just the result if we win minus the investment,
minus the investment if we lose as well, which gives
us profit units. Right, we'll go jump in now and
do a bit of a review of the best bets
for the weekend, and we'll start the scan Man double Jeopardy.
(03:02):
Wow wee this horse got crunched into a dollar thirty
five and a scan man got it right. Tim Williams
was extremely patient, he knew he had the horse power,
he didn't panic and he got out at the right
time and it was a good win in the end. FITZI,
we had the Harness Halo. We've covered this off already.
It was a great win by double time Gaso.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
This one was outstanding as well.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
It was raced for it was Cardi b had to
do a little bit of work to get to the top.
Stack them up and with a third quarter of twenty
seven point seven really put a few of these horses
under pressure and ended up running away with it. And
it was a ten out of ten ride drive sorry
from Maddi Williamson. So outstanding result from Gaso and as
(03:47):
always he seems to find him. Next up was Maddie
Markham and look it looked like he might have found
one here with Treasure Trusha Cove. It let up and
seemed to be travel well, but just sort of got
swamped in the end. It did still stick on quite well.
Tony be about two and a half links away from
(04:07):
the winner and only about a length or so away
from second place, so definitely one still to follow, I
think Treasure Cove and of course Matt Daddy.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Matt's best was Wanganui. It was harmonious.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
We already covered this in the blessed bet, but it
did get top three and it was good value at
top three as well. My best bet was rick it
in race seven if in down Dance and look, yeah,
this horse got quite a lot further back than I
thought it would and it got back on the inside
as well. I expected it to maybe end up in
(04:45):
the running a little bit closer to them, but it
just had so much work to do in the final stages.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Look, it still ran home well for ninth, So I
think that this.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Is a horse that we can follow, either aover a
little bit more distance or even second up over the
A ten hundred. I think this horse is worth a
follow because I think it's gonna pick one up in
the next couple of starts. Kemy's has started this season
on fire and he went to a race number three
at Record and it was Mystic Park and gee wiz,
this looks like a serious sprinter and one to follow
(05:16):
over the spring.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
He's big and bold.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
He sat outside the leader and really put them away,
particularly in that last fifty meters he started to run
away from them. So I think that's a horse we
follow through the spring. Down in the South, Ted's best
bet was Womanui Race one Torretto, first two year old
race of the season. Yeah, maybe just it did well
(05:42):
to run second, but it was a little bit of
a mine field that one, and just with the track,
I think we'll see this horse get on top of
the ground and get get on a better track, and
I think we can maybe punt it again when it
gets on a better track. The goat went down to
reck in and it was race number two. It was
Keying Lucky and it was a good performance from this horse.
(06:06):
I think the first and second were leader and outside leader,
and they sort of seemed to kick away from the
rest of them on the turn. Keying Lucky got out
in time, but I think the leader the leaders just
had already got away from them, and I think it
was maybe a little bit hard to make ground in
that race. But again, Keying Lucky is one to follow
next up for sure. And then lastly, punt Iq was
(06:30):
Rosell race ten head Well, look he just got back
in the running and never really got into the race.
He still run on well for seventh, but not the
way we wanted to end the day, but definitely a
horse I think worth following. As you know from the
last couple of years of doing these podcasts, when the
boys tip something out, if it doesn't win that same week,
(06:52):
it's worth just noting them down and following them along
because often they'll win in the next start or the
start following. Now we'll have a little bit of a
chat through the ROI of the best bets. So again
every week I'm going to be doing a leaderboard. We'll
just discuss the top three and how they're traveling so far.
(07:13):
We're basically doing the amount returned minus the investment to
give us the units of profit and of couse, Kemmy's
has gone two from two and he's leading the way
with six point eight units of profit so far on
his best bets. Gaso in a close second with five
(07:33):
point four to six units of profit and Fitsie in
third place with two point nine to five units of profit.
Let me tell you, I think that there's a little
bit of pride on the line in this group, so
the boys will be doing whatever they can to try
and find some winners and move themselves up the leaderboard.
Be interesting to see how this goes over the remainder
of the season, because I know all of the lads
(07:56):
are really keen to take down the top time for
the most ROI on the season.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
So we'll see how we go.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Right, Let's go and jump in and do a quick
review of the Wanganui Guineas from the weekend and it
was read about it.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Look, this is a good horse.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
I'm not sure that he actually really likes the heavy
tracks or if he's just getting through the heavy tracks
because of his class, and I think he might just
have a little bit.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Of X factor about him.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
He's only had the three race day starts and all
of them on heavy tracks. I'm interested to see how
this horse goes on top of the ground. Bridal Joy
was brave and second Tiaka were good at place in
their horses, so I'm sure we'll see this one pick
up a nice horse on the way through this season.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Interesting way to start the season with the Wanganui Guineas
and be interesting to see how these horses go moving forward.
But I think read about it as one that we
can follow on to some of the better tracks.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Not a huge amount of trials last week.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
I did have a look through last week and I
did notice one from Cambridge Synthetic on Friday was a
horse that I have a bit of time.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
For, Aquarello, and she won her trial.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
She's a big lump of a horse and I'm looking
forward to seeing her return to racing. She looks like
she'll be ready to go first up, so wherever she
gets placed, I think that she is one that we
can follow moving forward, Frida, Let's go and jump in
and have a little bit of a review of the
races in Australia, and first we'll look at the group one.
(09:37):
Memsi and pym Stripe blew out the punters as we thought,
Pridor Jenny led up and gentleman Roy kept her on us.
Mister Brideside sat in the perfect position and looked like
the winner turning for home until Pinstripe got over the
top of them late and burnt the punters. I can
(09:57):
tell your first hand that I wore for sure one
of the punters that got smoked on that it was
a good run first up from mister Brightside and he's
in for another good season. Prior to Genny looked like
a horse that just needs more distance. I've seen quite
a lot of commentary on social media writing her off already,
(10:18):
but I think she's one that you ride off at
your own peril.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
You watch out for her.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
I think second and third up over more distance, I
think she's going to be.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Back to her powerful best.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
One of the other notable runners on the day from
Australia was Stormboy, who was formerly the favorite for the
Slipper and g was.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
He was impressive.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
He was a little bit tardy out of the gates
and he needed to be pushed.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Along to find the lead coming around the corner.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
He just had them all off the bit and ended
up doing it easily, and he put them away by
sort of three or four links and looked back to
his best Stormboy.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
It's going to be interesting.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
I know they've paid a lot of money for this horse,
so let's see how he goes through his three year
old season. Lastly from Australia, Quintessa. Wow, what a win
from this meal mayor. She carried the heavyweight and was
just far too good for them in the end. And
all accounts it sounds like they're going to be keeping
this horse around the fourteen hundred to the sixteen hundred
(11:20):
this season. So potentially a race like the Empire Rows
where she's currently seventeen dollars and five dollars might be
worth having a little bit of a look at. I know,
obviously there's going to be some very quality mayors and
a race like that over the Melbourne Cup Carnival, but
the way she won with sixty kilos over the weekend,
Fresh Up looks like a horse that might go on
(11:43):
with it, and so the seventeen dollars and five dollars
might be worth having a look at, right events, let's
jump into it. So we've got a whole raft of
events coming this year. The first one we're really looking
forward to is Everest Day in a course I wish
I win for Trackside Media will be screaming that home
(12:06):
and then potentially we might have another KEYI interest with
Jolly Starr for Cambridge stud We're going to be doing
the King of the Punt, which is on October nineteenth
at Allesleie. We're going to be on course and doing
a competition. The competition for King of the Punt is
basically you start off with say one hundred dollars and
(12:29):
then it's your job to turn that into as much
profit throughout the day, with the Everest being the last
race on the day. The tickets for this event will
be coming out over the next couple of weeks, but
you will need to be on course at Allesley in
our room to take part in this competition. More details
(12:49):
will be there to come out over the next couple
of weeks. But we're fired up, we're pumped and we
want to get as many people to come along for
the King of the Punt and find out who the
best punter is and ep in Z Cup Week. Look,
there'll be a National Punters Club on Cup Week from
Thursday through to Saturday, so we'll be punting the harness
at Ashburna and on Friday, the Dogs on Thursday night,
(13:13):
the Harness again on Friday and then of course New
Zealand Cup Day with this thousand guineas on Saturday, and
we'll be looking to take the tab down like we
did a couple of years ago with the New Zealand
Cup Week Punters Club. On that note, Thursday at the
Dogs tickets are now available, so the tickets we're doing
(13:35):
are an all inclusive package that includes all of your
food and all of your drinks for the night. It's
one hundred and seventy dollars and we're going to have
a private area for the BGP members as well. If
you want to come along to the Dogs on that
Thursday night, send an email to Sarah at christ Church
Greyhounds dot co dot in z to booking your spot
(13:58):
and Sarah from Crusher's Grayhounds will be taking all the
bookings and taking care of that for us, so again
it's Sarah at christ Church Greyhounds.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Dot Coddin said, let them know you.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Want to come along for the dogs and you want
to be in the BGP members areas screaming home some
pups for the Punters Club that night. Tickets and details
for the Friday should be out later this week or
early next week.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
We'll get them out as soon as we can.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
But of course we're going to be having the event
on Thursday night at the Pups. We're going to have
an event on the Friday at the Harness. Saturday is
going to be no event, but we will be hosting
the Punters Club and shooting a whole bunch of content.
On course, we just won't be holding a BGP event
on the Saturday.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Right, Let's jump in and have a look.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
At some horses to follow out of the weekend, and
one that Kimmy's mentioned was one to follow which was
out of the Key Yang Lucky race, I believe, and
it was a horse called Vivacious run Down Reckon. Kimmy's
mentioned that Tiaco are very good at placing their horses
down there and knowing what sort of races they're targeting.
(15:07):
They often use the South Island to set their horses
up to run in some better races in the North,
so when they do come it makes it a little harder.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
To line up the form.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Follow this horse and go again next start, but also
keep an eye on it when it goes over where
it goes over the next couple of months. And if
you see this horse pop up in a nice race
in the North Island after racing down South, you know
that Tiako know what they're doing and so you might
find this one at a bit of value at some point.
(15:36):
So follow that that is vivacious out of the tiar cow.
Camp Ted also suggested to put one bold cat into
the black book. He resumed with a nice third in
the open sprint over twelve hundred meters, which is way
too short for him. The County's Cup and Fielding Cup
winner of last season. He's also finished fourth in the
(15:58):
Thornton and and the Herbie Dyke, both group won races.
The winner of seven from seventeen, he's going to pick
up a big races season and he's currently at ten
dollars for the liver More. So Ted putting one out
there for the Livermore ten dollars for one bold cat
and one for me.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
This one's not out of the weekend, but.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
I've picked one out at big odds for the New
Zealand Cup. Of course, last year we went early on
JBG and we followed it all the way through.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
We didn't get the chocolates.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
This year I've gone very very early. But you're getting
sixty one dollars for this horse. And it's called Cheval
de Fandre. And this horse won big at Ricketon over
the twenty two hundred last season and looks like a
very serious horse. Look, it's a long way up and
anything can happen between now and then, and he might
not even end up going there, but he is nominated
(16:51):
at this stage, and I believe if it gets closer
to the time and he makes the field, he's going
to be a lot shorter than what he is now.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
So the sixty might be worth just having a gold.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Coin each way and praying for a miracle and this
horse gets there on that Saturday in November and takes
on the New Zealand Cup. Right.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
The Best of BGP.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Powered by track Side will be back this week along
with the new Friday Fillip, So the Best of BGP
will be played across the track Side Network and of
course the Friday Night Philip will hopefully be played across
the Friday Night's Lights for the Harness as well. Thanks
for joining us, happy punting, and we'll see you back
(17:40):
next week
