(00:00):
"Welcome in, this is calming anxiety, our fifth day after Christmas, quieting the night,

(00:09):
a deep sleep hypnosis to sweep away twenty-twenty-five.
So it's December 30th, the eve of the eve.
Tonight is dedicated to one thing only, rest.
There is often a pressure at this time of the year to be ready, ready to celebrate, ready

(00:35):
to change, ready for a fresh start.
But you cannot start fresh if you are exhausted.
So tonight, I invite you to get into bed, pull the covers up to your chin, let the mattress
hold your full weight.

(00:57):
And off the lights, close your eyes.
We are going to do a deep clean, not to the house but of your mind.
We are going to sweep away the dust of twenty-twenty-five so that you can sleep deeply and wake
up with a blank canvas.

(01:20):
Take a long, slow inhale and an even longer, slower exhale.
Tell your body it is safe to let go now.
I want you to visualize your mind as a beautiful, spacious room.

(01:44):
It is a room you love, but right now, it is a little cluttered.
There is dust on the floor.
The dust is the residue of the last year.
It is the old news headlines.
It is the arguments you've replayed in your head.

(02:06):
It is the worries that never came true.
It is the shithabs and the kud haves.
It is just dust.
And tonight, we are going to sweep it all out.
Imagine you have a soft, large broom.

(02:29):
Start in the far corner of your mind.
Gently, rhythmically start sweeping.
Sweep the dust towards the open back door.
In watching the grey clouds of old thoughts moving across the floor.

(02:50):
You don't need to examine them.
You don't need to analyse the dust.
You just need to remove it.
Sweep away the stress of January.
The rush of summer.
The chaos of December.

(03:12):
Flip it all towards the door.
And sometimes, small pockets of dust reappear.
This is normal.
Just go back and gently, rhythmically sweep them all away.

(03:33):
And as you do, allow your thoughts to settle.
You are breathing to find its own hypnotic balance.
Push that pile of grey dust out of the back wall and into the night air.

(03:56):
Watch as the wind catches it and scatters it into nothingness.
It is gone.
It is not part of you anymore.
Turn back in towards the room.
Now look at the floor.

(04:17):
It is clean.
It is polished.
The room feels bigger.
The air feels lighter.
In the centre of this room, I want you to imagine a large white canvas.
It is covered by a soft white sheet.

(04:39):
This is 2026.
It is pristine.
There are no marks on it yet.
There are no mistakes on it yet.
It is waiting for you.
But not tonight.
Tonight we just admire the clean space.

(05:03):
Tonight.
We enjoy the quiet.
Your mind is clean.
Your body is heavy.
It is time to drift.
I want you now to simply imagine the most relaxing bed you could ever think of.

(05:32):
Perfect, just for you, however you imagine it.
And it stands there waiting at the bottom of a spiral staircase.
Ten gentle steps lead down towards this perfect bed.

(05:53):
Every step down, you allow yourself to feel more tired, more ready for sleep.
Every moment, every word I say, you truly allow yourself to unwind and drift deeply.

(06:15):
So imagine looking down at your feet now and take that first step and drift deeper and
deeper.
And now the second step, your muscles unwinding, your arms and legs feeling heavier and heavier.

(06:40):
And then the third step and now the fourth, further and further into blissful harmony, you
allow yourself to drift deeper and deeper towards sleep.

(07:01):
You take the fifth step, you relax, you take the sixth step and now the seventh, your whole
body at peace, drifting deeply, your thoughts safe and balanced.

(07:25):
And now the eighth step, deeper and deeper still.
And now the ninth, so relaxed and at peace.
And now the tenth step, walking up towards this bed, knowing that as soon as you touch

(07:46):
the sheets, you'll feel even more relaxed.
Imagine moving the bed sheet aside, sitting down, sliding your legs onto the mattress, pulling
the sheets up around you, feeling warm and cozy, safe and protected.

(08:09):
Your head touches the pillow, your eyes close, you relax and unwind for a full deep night
sleep to wake rested and ready in the morning.
Your mind is clean, your body is heavy, it is time to sleep.

(08:36):
Your legs as if made of lead, your hands are soft and open, the space between your eyebrows
is smooth.
You drift down towards this blank canvas, deeper and deeper, you're breathing, slows,

(09:06):
calming you, deeper and deeper, sleep.
Good night my friend, rest well and in your dreams be kind.

(09:28):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
