Hey
forest.
Japan.
Within the heart of Japan,
lies a mystical and eerie forest known as
Ao.
Also referred to as the sea of trees
or suicide forest.

(26:12):
This haunting beautiful landscape at the base of
Mount Fuji
has captivated both locals and tourists alike.
But its reputation goes far beyond its natural
charm and beauty.
Ao has shrouded in dark legends and ghostly
tales that have cemented its status says 1
of Japan's most haunted

(26:33):
locations.
Join me delving into the chilling ghost stories
surrounding Ao forest,
and explore the cultural beliefs that has contributed
to its bizarre and Mac
my mistake.
Ao
forest, stretches over 30 square kilometers,

(26:54):
and is characterized by dense spoil.
And in almost other otherworldly based silence.
The forest floor is adorned with winding roots
in volcanic rock formations
creating a surreal ambiance
that fills both enchanting and fore voting.
Many find it un settling how Any,

(27:15):
sound
seems to be non existent.
The volcanic rock floor
inhibits any echoing within the forest,
leading to easily the most silent forest 1
has ever walked through,
However, this
picturesque setting does hold a much darker history

(27:36):
that has fueled the proliferation of ghost stories
for ages.
In traditional Japanese culture,
Forests have long. Been regarded as places where

(27:58):
the spirit world intersect with the living,
along with any bodies of water.
Ao
in particular
has been associated with Yuri.
The spirits of the deceased to our believed
to linger on earth.
Unable to move on to the afterlife due
to unresolved emotions, or tragic circumstances

(28:20):
surrounding their depth,
The phenomenon of yuri is deeply rooted in
Japanese folk glory, and many believe that these
restless spirits inhabit the shadows of Ao.
Stories a abound of erie encounters with these
wandering souls,
further per the forest
reputation as a paranormal hotspot.

(28:42):
In the ancient past many elderly
from Japanese families,
were sent to the forest to die to
exposure
This wasn't
out of any mel.
This was to spare the rest of the
family, the food and resources
that the elderly person would take up because

(29:03):
they cannot contribute back to the family anymore
because of their old age.
So even in the ancient days of Japan,
people would go to this forest
specifically to die.
And dying to the elements is a pretty
horrific way to go. So it's very possible
that many of these people who died in

(29:25):
that manner,
became yuri.
And then there is the ghostly lanterns,
1 of the most pervasive stories surrounding Ao
ga forest revolves around these mysterious ghostly lanterns
that appear amidst the trees.
As to twilight the dissent,
Hike and locals have claimed to witness pale

(29:47):
ether lights floating to the woods.
According to legend.
These eerie lights are believed to be spirits
of those who have perished in the forest.
Guiding lost souls,
or beck
travelers deeper into the heart of Ao.
Those who encounter the ghostly lanterns

(30:09):
are warned not to follow their glowing path
as doing so, could lead to an irreversible
encounter
with the spirit world.
Hike, in adventurers exploring the forest have also
reported encountering silhouette or shadows guarding between the
trees.

(30:31):
These elusive
aspirations are often associated with Yuri, whose presence
believed to cast a sense of unease
and dread over the living.
Locals recount stories of these shadows manifesting in
front of unsuspecting individuals.
Causing chilling
sensations and evo spine tingling fear.

(30:52):
While Skeptics attribute these experience is to the
play of light and shadows in the dense
forest.
Believers
remain convinced that these are spiritual encounters.
Hi
Haunting
reputation is not solely dependent on visual encounters.

(31:13):
Visitors have shared tales of hearing distant cries.
Eerie Whispers,
and sorrow
whales echoing through the trees
These unsettling sounds are set to ema from
the souls of those who ended their lives
within the forest.
The way to despair in anguish,
coupled with the forest profound silence.

(31:34):
Lens an eerie atmosphere that envelop those who
dare.
Venture into its depths.
And
so many people go into this forest to
end their lives
It's quite common that a hike will come
across 1 of these camps or 1 of
these sad souls.
Rangers of the park who discover these corpses

(31:57):
or are made aware of the location of
such corpses.
Have to do something interesting in Japanese culture
where we over in the west would find
Barry Mac.
They have to take these deceased
individuals
and take them back to their cabin
and sleep next to them during the night.

(32:19):
I'm serious.
The Japanese rangers literally have to sleep right
next to these deceased individuals
throughout the whole night.
And this comes from the Yuri tradition,
if these individuals are given company during the
night, it's much less likely that they will
turn into an angry ghost.

(32:50):
Ao
forests ghost stories have woven a tapestry of
in entry and mystery around this already an
enigmatic location.
Whether attributed to cultural beliefs,
paranormal encounters,
or psychological factors.
The haunting tail surrounding the forest continue to
draw curious visitors from around the world.

(33:12):
However,
It is essential to approach such stories with
respect
and sensitivity.
As Ao
tragic history of suicides should not be trivial.
The forest holds a profound significance Japanese culture
and it serves as a solemn reminder of

(33:33):
the importance of mental health, awareness,
and passion.
So
let us also remember the value of life
and the need to support those who may
be struggling in the shadows of despair.
The forest beauty, and its chilling tales serve
as appointment reminder of the delicate balance between

(33:56):
life and death
and the importance of fostering empathy and understanding
within ourselves
and our communities.

(34:17):
