Skinwalker Ranch, also known as Sherman Ranch, is a property located in the Uintah Basin of Utah, United States, that has gained international notoriety for its alleged paranormal activities and unexplained phenomena. Spanning approximately 512 acres, this secluded ranch has been the focal point of numerous investigations and has captured the imagination of both skeptics and believers alike. The ranch's mystique stems from a series of bizarre and often disturbing events reported by former owners, visitors, and researchers. These include sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), strange creatures resembling those described in Native American folklore, mysterious lights, and unexplained cattle mutilations. The site is named after the skinwalker, a shape-shifting entity from Navajo legend, which is said to have the ability to transform into various animals. Speaker 1 (00:13):
Welcome to Cryptic Chronicles, a show all about everything mysterious, unexplained,
and weird in the world today. On the show, we're
gonna talk Skimwalker Ranch, a notorious paranormal hot spot that's
named after a horrific creature from Native American low. If
you're a fan of the paranormal and you're listening to
this podcast, so most likely you are, then you most

(00:37):
likely are familiar with Skimwalker Ranch. I'm going to try
and throw some stuff in there that you might not
have heard before, as well as some updated lore from modern,
up to date times. What fascinates me about Skimwalker Ranch
is how it seemingly blends all aspects of paranormal lore
into a single amalgamation. Usually, these different categories of pie

(01:00):
strangeness happened separately in like you know, individual occurrences, but
at the Ranch, they all happen at the same spot,
sometimes simultaneously. So let's hop right into it, shall we.
I'm your host, Tim Hacker, and you're listening to Cryptic Chronicles.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
H this is this is the way, this is the way.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
You see these these entities they would conquer group.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
What is Berkeley's skin wa Walker?

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Well, I'm glad you asked that renegade sentient AI because
it's gonna be an important theme in this episode. Skin
Walkers are entities from Native American lore who were once
spiritual authorities of a tribe but decided to use medicine
for evil. Medicine in a way basically the way that

(02:30):
the Native Americans look at it is not the way
that we would view medicine, like, it's not medicine from
the West and truth is basically to summon up its
medicine is magic. It's like shamanic powers. Skin Walkers are
shape shifters who are once normal human beings. They can
transform into any animal they want, though sometimes the animal

(02:53):
is twisted and demonically grotesque. The Navajo tribe in particular
has immense lore surrounding skin Walker, and yeah, skim Walker
was basically once a medicine man, which is basically a priest,
healer shaman who went dark side who has been initiated
into becoming a supernatural monster through horrible acts of symbolism

(03:15):
that show their devotion to leaving their humanity behind. These
initiatory acts can differ, but they're always highly macabre, like
murdering a close family member, incest or necrophilia. After the
ritual of their transformation is complete, the person is gifted
with supernatural power and an urge to do harm. There

(03:40):
are even ranks within the skimwalker society, the highest being
the clesiati, which translates to pure evil. A skimwalker usually
transforms into a wolf, coyote, eagle, box or crow when
the shape shift, but it's only because those animals' abilities

(04:00):
are needed at the time. No limit exists on what
type of animal a skim walker can transform into. They'll
change into a bird if they need to get some
more fast If they need immense strength, they'll turn into
a bear. If they need to swim, they'll transform into
an otter, etc. There are also Navajo legends of skim

(04:21):
walker stealing people's faces too, or if someone makes eye
contact with one, it can absorb itself into a person's
very body, I guess, possessing them. Sometimes they freeze their
victims with their demonic eyes, consuming them with paralyzing fear. Then,
like a vampire, the skimwalker absorbs the person's life force.

(04:43):
Given the monster energy and power. When they're in their
human form, wishing to go unnoticed, they are very hairy
people who often where the skins of animals as clothes.
But to the untrained eye, they can pretty much pass
as normal everyday peace.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
Why what do skinwalkers have to do with Skinwalker Ranch?

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Well, Skinwalker Ranch is one of the most ineffable and
controversial places on the planet. Its namesake obviously comes from
these Native American skinwalker legends. The five hundred acre ranch
is located in the middle of nowhere southeast of Ballard, Utah,
and is home to many documented cases concerning high strangeness.

(05:31):
To many, Skinwalker Ranch is one of the weirdest places
in the world where normal laws of physics, same reality
don't apply. In modern times, the ranch is closed off
from the public, with no trespassing signs and road closed
signs orbiting the property in all directions. The imagery is
similar to the area around the notorious Area fifty one,

(05:54):
with fences blocking off any curious driver for miles to come.
This high security was not always present at the ranch,
and at the time that our narrative begins, it was
wholly non existent. The ranch's rise to infany began in
nineteen ninety four, when the Sherman family purchased the property
and set up shop. The family sought solitude and a

(06:16):
simple life outside the whole hustle and bustle rat race
that consumed most people's lives. However, the Sherman family was
in for some disappointment because theyd only last on the
farm for around two years before fleeing the property out
of terror. Slowly, the family began to experience unexplainable occurrences

(06:37):
that didn't seem possible. The encounters with the quote unquote
other grew and grew to the point that over the
time of their stay there, the Sherman family would experience
possibly hundreds of paranormal experiences. When they first purchased the property,
there was a bizarre clause in the contract saying that

(06:57):
in order to dig on the ranch, they'd have to
contact the previous owners, the Meyers family, for permission, which
makes no sense at all unless it has something to
do with like mineral rights or something. However, with the
Sherman family being cattle ranchers, they cared little about this
oddity in a practical sense. When the Sherman family finally

(07:20):
arrived at their new home, they were shocked that the
house was fortified heavily as if in preparation for some
attack or something like it was going to be under siege.
Many doors and windows were bolted shut, with metal bars
in the windows as well, and heavy locks were pretty
much all over the place in excess. The Sherman obviously
thought that this was all really weird, but just kind

(07:42):
of maybe summed it up that the Meyer family were
a little bit eccentric or kind of crazy. They were
an old couple, and maybe they were a little bit
senile and overly paranoid. So they brushed the whole crazily
fortified ranch off and moved in. Anyway, and the family
tried to settle into their new home out in the

(08:03):
middle of nowhere. Think Couraged the cowardly dog out in
the middle of nowhere kind of a picture. That's their
desire for a comfortable and simple life would be sidelined
because it wouldn't take long for weird stuff to start happening.
Early on in their stay at the ranch, Terry and
Gwen Sherman, with their two kids and Terry's father were

(08:25):
walking about the property, you know, just inspecting everything and
admiring their new home the scenery. Then out in the distance,
Terry saw what looked like a wolf around four hundred
yards away, and this wolf was walking towards the ranch.
So he pointed it out to everybody and they all
watched the wolf as it came closer, and it was huge,

(08:47):
like really huge. When the creature was about fifty yards away,
it halted its approach and seemed to be staring at
the family, and then the wolf once again started walking
towards them with such odd that they wondered if this
wolf was somehow tame or something. It didn't seem to
be fazed by the humans at all. However, the horror

(09:08):
within the family erupted quickly as the distance closed because
the wolf was unlike anything that they'd ever seen. It
went up to the chests of the six foot tall
men and was abnormally muscular, with other worldly blue eyes
that insinuated a keen intelligence. Despite this, the wolf seemed
totally tame and came right up to them like pretty

(09:29):
much nonchalantly, like it was just as normal as breathing
to walk up to these humans, and instead of running
away or anything else I think other people would do,
Terry reached out and pet the beast, which just seems
kind of crazy. I mean, if that happened to me
right when that wolf started coming towards us and got

(09:50):
anywhere remotely near us, I would have had the whole
family go inside and gotten my gun. But apparently he
decided to pet this giant monster mutant wolf, and it
was pretty chill about it too, that is until the
wolf spotted a calf not that far off and dashed
to attack it. Terry and his father tried to save
their livestock and hammered into the giant wolf with repeated

(10:11):
attacks over and over, but their blows didn't seem to
even register, like they were less than nothing. Terry yelled
to his siden to go grab his cold pistol to
shoot the beast, and the child did so. He took
the gun and pointed it at the wolf at point
blank range, then fired. The wolf didn't even react, unconcerned
by the bullet as much as it was unconcerned by

(10:33):
the physical blows from the men, so they unloaded into it.
I think that kind of cold has five shots, so
it took five bullets to get this beast to even
really notice them and stop eviscerating the calf and trot away.
But despite unloading into it, it didn't even have a

(10:54):
scratch on it, and as it trotted off for a bit,
it abruptly stopped and turned around to stare back at
the family. Just stood there staring, So Terry had his
son go and get his the big guns, the hunting
rifle thirty odd six. Yet again, when he shot the wolf,
it didn't do anything to the wolf. The animal just

(11:16):
continued to stand there staring at the family after each shot,
not even flinching. Eventually, the wolf decided to trot off
into the woods beyond the ranch. Terry armed his son
and the two followed the wolf because obviously they didn't
want to let this thing go. It already attacked one
of their calves. They didn't want to come back for seconds,
so they followed the wolf's footprints into the woods, but

(11:40):
suddenly the tracks just disappeared. Now, it doesn't make sense
about this, as the dirt was soft, and it very
much continued to be soft well into the woods, so
it made no sense that they just vanish, and you know,
being unable to hunt the wolf any further, they just
retreated back to the ranch. Very confused. Weird canines and

(12:02):
wolf sidings would continue for the family, but it was
never a close encounter like it was before with the
giant mutant wolf. After some time, these sightings would dwindle.
But this doesn't mean that weird stuff stopped. The weird
stuff just changed into new weird stuff. The family noticed
that things would go missing, which kind of reminds me

(12:23):
of poultry geist activity. And yeah, polter geist activity actually
did go on here, but in this case it was
like it wasn't like small stuff going missing, like keys
or the remote controller for a TV, but like stuff
like giant ranch equipment. Terry would be using heavy, large equipment,
go away for five minutes, then come back and it

(12:45):
was gone. It's pretty spooky stuff. And a couple of
these things were eventually found, but how they were found
didn't make sense. Like a heavy post digger that's like
seventy tons heavy on twenty feet up in the air
in a tree. I mean that would do that right.
You would have to have like one of those trucks

(13:08):
that have the lift in the back that used to
be for like cable boxes. I think only phone companies
use them now. They ah somehow this seventy ton heavy
ranch machinery was twenty feet up in a tree, However,
the missing ranch equipment and whatnot didn't have anything on
what was yet to come. The family began noticing lights

(13:31):
in the night sky, and this would be one of
the main phenomena that the family encountered during their two
years on the ranch. While unsettling, the family were not
prepared for what happened next. One night, Terry and his
son and his nephew saw out in the distance what
looked like our V lights or like just something on
the property, some vehicle out in the distance. The game

(13:56):
they had some trespassers. The three went out to confront
them and you know, kick them off their land. However,
as they approached, the lights strangely moved away from them
in a way that an RV really shouldn't be capable of,
and they were shaken by this, but continued to pursue
the lights. Then as they got close, all of a sudden,

(14:19):
the lights flew high into the air and they could
visibly see what the lights were attached to, and it
was a straight up UFO, but not a huge UFO.
It was about the size of a fridge, but still
pretty much a UFO. The three looked on stupefied as
the craft flew away and out of sight at insane
speed while not making any sound at all.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
It sounds amongons like this land is cursed.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
You just wait and see. There's a lot about this
There's a lot of lore in this area that definitely
makes it seem like this land is cursed. Because over
time the family would learn that paramorumal activity in the
ow Inta Basin area was actually pretty consistent. Native American
legends of the area went back pretty far, and the
land itself had a direct connection to the quote unquote

(15:07):
other world gotten in many ideas from Native American traditions
that are actually not easily explained to the Western mind,
but some of the land actually was traditionally well known
to be cursed. The Ute tribe of Native Americans settled

(15:27):
the land around one hundred and sixty years ago, which
is actually where the state of Utah got its name.
These Utes Utah. There you go. But they are not
actually the original Native American inhabitants of the land. It's
actually like switched around a decent amount of times. And
we'll talk about the more authentic natives of the area later,

(15:49):
but the Ute are definitely the most prominent to them.
Skinwalker ranch was an area that was incredibly dangerous. Supernatural
forces haunted the area that could cause living people harm,
so the natives would stay away from it, basically avoided
at all costs. The land was cursed and directly connected

(16:10):
to the former tribesmen who had become skinwalkers. Eventually, Skinwalker
Ridge became the northern part of the family's ranch. Like
the most cursed area that the ute considered off limits
and being evil monsters bent on dominance and causing suffering,
it's obviously normal for people of a tribe to be

(16:31):
polarized against their presence. Skinwalkers are always a bad thing.
There have been countless occasions where vigilant warriors of a
tribe have discovered a skinwalker amongst them, and once found,
the Native Americans have always hunted down and attempted to
slay the entity in whatever beast form they may be in.
But first and foremost, they will always try to avoid

(16:52):
the skim walker and leave it alone. They'll only go
on the hunt for it if there's no other choice,
if it's actually harming the people of the tribe, you know
what I'm saying. However, these hunts are rarely successful. Skim
Walkers can easily evade hunters while even playing games with
them like psychologically tormenting them. One of their favorite things

(17:15):
to do is to lead trackers to their own homes
or the homes of loved ones, essentially saying I know
where you sleep, and I can kill you or your
loved ones whenever I want see. Skim Walkers take offense
if they're called out for their true nature, so attempting
to kill one is basically recklessly brave because they're going
to go out of their way to take vengeance on

(17:36):
a very personal level, and this vengeance won't be quick.
They can be dragged out for weeks, more than years,
many times, driving that would be hunters insane and everyone
they know and love suffering in the process as well,
before eventually being murdered by the skim walker in an
extremely painful fashion. The majority of the Ute tribe would

(18:02):
give skinwalkers a wide birth and not mess with them
or the territory that they claimed or were associated with
unless they had to. But that does not mean that
skim walkers are invincible because they can be slain. Skinwalker's
necks are very vulnerable to weapons or bullets dipped in
white ash. A solid way to kill one is to

(18:23):
learn the skinwalker's name it used back when it was
still a human, and if the name is spoken to
the monster, then three days later, while it's in human form,
it will grow ill or even die. But finding the
skinwalker's name is going to be extremely tricky and hard,
and it's mostly not an option. But while the skinwalker,
if you it is you know, pulled off while the

(18:45):
skinwalker is sick, this is an ideal opportunity to attack it,
not going to get many other chances. And also a
good way to spot one is to simply wound it
while it's an animal form. If you successfully wound it
while it's an animal form, when it changes back into
a human, it's going to have the exact same wound
on its human body, or at least a similar one.
And in human form they are much easier to kill,

(19:07):
but should always be taken by surprise and never confronted
openly if they want to. One of these things can
perfectly imitate animal creatures, so they can pretty much sneak
around and escape and commit espionage or whatever really easily.
They can also purposely like twist their animal body to

(19:30):
appear more demonic and it like an attempt to cause
more fear in a victim, so it's essential if anyone
actually tries to hunt a skim walker, they have to
have the utmost mental fortitude because they have insane powers
to mess with people's heads, which they use strategically, always
attempting to gain the advantage over their victims. No matter
how overpowered they are, and you know everything's favoring them,

(19:52):
they still love to play their games. Skim Walkers are
telepathic and know what someone will do before they do
it because they can read someone thoughts, and they use
this against people all the time, so they can get
a pretty good grasp on someone's insecurities or mental state
pretty effortlessly. They can also perfectly imitate any animal or

(20:13):
human noise at will, despite what form they may currently
be shape shifted into. Mix out with reading a person's mind,
and there's no end to the mental trauma and horror
that they can inflict. They can cry out from the
woods saying they're badly injured, or cry out from the
woods using the voice of someone's lover or parents or
anything like that. They could use the voice of the

(20:35):
chosen victim's child to taunt them to come out into
the darkness. They can literally drive people insane by doing this,
such as imitating a deceased close family member while reading
the person's mind to say the most messed up stuff
possible to them, like if somebody has daddy issues, the
skim walker could be like, you've never made me proud

(20:56):
and I'm always been ashamed of you, and it could
like screw with the guy you know. So, skim walkers
are utterly sadistic, but they do use these abilities for
more than just pleasure, like when they are confronted by
multiple people seeking to slay them at once, they can
use their powers in an attempt to lure the hunters
away from one another, or attempt to cause infighting amongst them.

(21:18):
Pretty sure that skim walker movies would be awesome if
done right, and there has been a couple of time,
but they're not that great because like a skim walker
could easily be on par with like any of the
famous horror monsters. Anyway, let's take a quick break. I

Speaker 6 (28:21):
Right, So.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Back to the skim walker stuff. Shape shifting into animals
may be the main calling card of a skim walker,
but they were originally practitioners of medicine and still have
all of these shamanistic magic abilities that they can use
to their advantage. They'll use spells and charms just as
easily as they did while they were mortal. Usually this

(28:47):
magic is to still fear or control over someone, but
they still have all the knowledge that they possessed before
their transformation into a skim walker. They will gather a
victim's hair or nail trimmings and perform dark rituals that
will either aid them in their goals or help lead
to a horrible fate for someone they choose to torment.
Skim Walkers also utilize a powder called corpse dust, which

(29:12):
is made from ground up bones of infants, then give
an unholy power through accursed rituals. The skim walker can
blow this powder into a victim's face, which makes their
tongue blacken and swell. After painful convulsions and internal bleeding,
the victim always dies. And while they do share many abilities,

(29:35):
a skim walker should never be confused with a medicine man.
Medicine men are practitioners of the mystic arts, with no
focus whatsoever on evil in any way. For the most part,
medicine men are good, positive, healthy skim walker is obviously
not so much. But medicine men can also transform into

(29:56):
animals and perform supernatural feats, just like a skim walker.
Medicine men are healers, spiritual guides, and are intuate nature.
They're shamans essentially, priests of a sort. They don't do
evil for the sake of evil or are selfish, you know,
just out for their own well being and petty's desires
or whatever. They're actually always regarded highly in Native American culture.

(30:23):
Skin Walkers, on the other hand, go out of their
way to cause as much suffering as possible for their
own sadistic pleasure. So don't ever try to mix up
the two of those, especially if you're talking to natives.
You're probably going to offend them. Don't even talk about
skin walkers at all with natives. Actually, you're probably going
to offend them if you try to bring it up.
I mean, it's amazing how much we do know about

(30:44):
skin walkers as there is, because when asked about them.
Native Americans almost always are unwilling to speak about them
to outsiders. This isn't because of xenophobia or anything. It's
out of a sense of self preservation because a skin
walker could listening at any time, or could later read
their thoughts that they talk to an outsider about a

(31:05):
skim walker, or even a skim walker that's you know,
right there doing the mind thought penetrating. So Native Americans
usually refuse to speak about the supernatural monsters to avoid
its wrath, which is a good idea because angering a
skim walker could lead to a horrific demise any sane
person should seek to avoid at any cost, and the

(31:27):
land that Skimwalker Ranch resides on is one of the
most well known cursed areas designated to skim walkers by
the local Native Americans. However, is it possible that this
is just a cultural interpretation of the ineffable Whether skimwalkers
are real or not. The events that happen at Skimwalker

(31:47):
Ranch could be analogous to all kinds of different stuff
from paranormal lore, like the UFO encounter I already stated,
but it goes even deeper than that. There's also bigfoots,
poltergeists and ghosts. I went to county where Skimwalker Ranch
resides was one of the biggest hotspots of UFO sidings

(32:09):
during the nineteen seventies, so there's no shortage of high
strangeness going on there on top of all the Skimwalker entities.

Speaker 9 (32:17):
Silence your bridle talk about the orange light and the
ongoing paranormal phenomena.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Absolutely, the whole family witnessed strange orange lights during their
duration on the land, with Terry witnessing the events probably
the most. He claimed to have seen it dozens of
times and would go out at night to look at
the lights through the scope of his hunting rifle. The
shape of these orange lights would vary. Sometimes they were
perfectly round, and at other times they were ovoid, elongated,

(32:50):
or simply non symmetrical, depending on the distance. When viewed
the lights, as well, it could determine how clearly it
could be seen, with the ranch being like the spot
where they'd appear in the most focus. If you looked
at them from the roadway outside of the ranch, they
just looked like orange clouds or like an orange mist,
and any further than that they'd be more obfuscated. To

(33:11):
the point where you probably wouldn't even notice them. One night,
Terry went out to look at the orange lights when
he noticed the most bizarre thing he'd seen while observing them.
There was a bright blue light in the middle of
the large orange light. When he looked at it through
his hunting rifle scope, what Terry saw astonished him. The

(33:34):
thing in the middle was not the color blue emanating
from within the orange light. It was a clear blue sky,
as if it were daytime. But the thing is is
it had long since been night, so there being a
clear blue sky inside the orange light made no sense.
It was almost like he was looking through a tunnel

(33:54):
into another world where it was daytime. And then he
witnessed triangular shit apes flying out of the blue sky
within the orange light into the night that surrounded him,
like they came out of the portal. Essentially. Terry claims
that whatever was going on he in no way understood,
but it seemed like, yeah, some sort of portal where

(34:17):
flying objects were coming out from somewhere where it was
daytime out into our world where it was night through
this orange light. That was some sort of doorway. Out
of all of the experiences that Terry has with lights.
This is the most interesting to me, so make sure
you take note of it. However, despite all this weird

(34:38):
stuff going on all the time at the Sherman ranch,
nothing bad had yet happened to Terry or his family.
So even though it was all pretty disturbing, he couldn't
really afford to just pack up and leave, you know,
force the family to abandon their dream. It kind of
wasn't a financial option, you know what I mean. And
no physical harm had occurred to any of them. The

(35:00):
unexplainable anomalies or whatever was controlling the explainable anomalies seemed
to be fine and just letting the family be, and
Terry lied to himself that they could endure it. That
is until his cattle came under attack.

Speaker 9 (35:16):
Oh this is good, yes, talk about cow mutilations phenomena.

Speaker 4 (35:21):
Can I get you?

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Kind of got some human sadism up like for an.

Speaker 9 (35:26):
Ai silence insect. Just continue.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
During a winter storm, Terry noticed one of his cows
was missing, and he went looking for it, finding some tracks.
Just like the wolf encounter that happened when the family
first showed up at the ranch, The prince just vanished
out of nowhere. However, this was just the first cow
to go missing out of a lot, because five would
vanish over the winter, and to a cattle ranch farmer,

(35:54):
that's kind of a big deal. Just losing a single
cow actually is a big deal. That's like thousands and
thousands dollars just one cow. I don't know exactly how much,
but like at least six thousand at the minimum I
can think of, just guessing. But they are very expensive,
so not good, especially if you're trying to raise a

(36:14):
family and stuff, and your sole means of making money
are your cows. More and more, the high strangeness revolved
around the cows, and it got pretty disturbing. They'd find
cows eviscerated, and there would be other cows found in
disturbing ways. Here starts to straight up communilation from the
UFO phenomenon. Like, I'm sure you've heard of this before.

(36:36):
It's pretty popular and well known if you're into high strangeness,
so I'm sure you're familiar with it. Some parts of
the cow were removed as if by a professional surgeon,
and it's usually the anus and genitals and stuff like
this stuff everything needed to make a baby actually or
poop or pete you get what I'm saying. And the

(36:58):
most bizarre thing is that there was never any blood whatsoever.
And this went on for months, These cow mutilations, which
we'll remember, just on top of all kinds of other
weird anomalies happening at the same time as well. So
it's just all a whole bunch of cascading stuff going
down that fits every category of high strangeness you can

(37:21):
think of. In fact, Terry began to notice specific anomalies
associated with the occurrence of a commulation. I talked about
the orange lights earlier, but when stuff was going to
go down with his cows, Terry saw yellow lights. The
occurrence has also usually happened during bad weather, with one
or more yellow lights being seen at the ranch. Then

(37:43):
the next day the family would discover a cow sliced
up as if it had been dissected in a lab
by professionals. Spooky.

Speaker 9 (37:53):
This strange that aliens or anomalies find anything biological to
be useful fascinating.

Speaker 1 (38:01):
During a particular commutilation event, Terry discovered a weird looking
brown substance next to the cow. For some reason. I
wouldn't have touched it, but he touched it and he
claims it was gelike. Intrigued. Terry wanted to save the
substance for study, but by the time he found something
to put it in and you know, got back to it,

(38:22):
the stuff had evaporated or been removed from the scene somehow.
Terry said that the substance was not poop or gore
or anything like that, but a substance that he'd never
seen before. And like I said, the continued commutilations really
sucked for the family. Losing a single cow is a
big deal. And yeah, this whole cowmutilation stuff was very

(38:48):
much threatening to render the family destitute.

Speaker 9 (38:51):
Talk about more of the diversity of high strangeness. I
want to hear it all.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
Oh yeah, I mean we could go into detail for forever.
This could be tough to of episodes. I think that
I'll save a lot for future episodes, not specifically around
like this narrative, but just other stories to rown in
here and there. We'll see what happens.

Speaker 9 (39:14):
Falls us soon you have a future.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
God, chill out, dude. But yeah, as I already mentioned,
the ranch had a ton of anomalies, ranging from the
UFO phenomenon to ghosts to sasquatch. But there was even
more to it than summoning up so briefly, it doesn't
really do it justice. Sleep paralysis, dreams, nightmares, shadow figures

(39:43):
in their rooms, you name it. Strange sounds that seem
to be coming from underground also could be heard on
the ranch. There were many holes randomly across the property
with a diameter of several feet. These noises could actually
be traced back to They would appear in areas where
the anomalous lights were seen before, meaning there were a
lot of these little buggers showing up within these areas.

(40:05):
The soil would just vanish, so for unknown reasons, something
was randomly just stealing hundreds of pounds of dirt from
his property like in a just in a thin circular
tunnel going straight down. There would also be circular impressions
randomly made on the grass as well when holes were
not made from the lights. See what I mean by weird.

(40:26):
And if you look at the pictures of these, they
look like they fill in pretty quick. And I think
that there we'll get into this a little bit later.
There's like underground rivers or lake uh yeah, rivers underneath
the whole area. Stuff's super weird and interesting. Went traveling

(40:48):
about his property, Terry could also hear things speaking above
him that he could not see, and they were speaking
in an unknown language. Based on how well he could
hear them, they couldn't logically be that far away, but
when looking around there was nothing there. Some think that
it could have been like aliens or something talking in

(41:09):
their invisible UFO, but for Terry, trying to make sense
of it, didn't make any sense at all. The glowing
lights already mentioned varied too, and different anomalies happened. Based
on the colors seen, there were blue, yellow, orange, and red.
Terry says that sometimes these lights seemed to observe him

(41:32):
and even investigate his activities and what he's up to.
Most of the time the lights were seen far away,
but there were a few close encounters with the mysterious
lights that the family documented. One night, a blue light
got close to the ground and Terry's dogs attacked it.

(41:53):
The light responded by flying around the dogs, moving so
that it would be barely out of reach before once
again exposed itself. The family swears that the light was
either playing with the dogs or taunting them, and they
leaned towards the whole taunting them. Factor. Then all of
a sudden, the blue light flew off into the woods.

(42:15):
Of course, the dogs chased it. They disappeared from sight,
and after a moment they started yelping out in terror
and pain like horror distress, And just as quickly as
they started yelping, there was only silence. The next day, obviously,
Terry went to go look for his dogs. He found them.

(42:37):
They were just corpses, though in brown to burned circles
of grass, and at the center of their bodies was
a gooey mess of gore. He did not understand what
kind of weapon could have possibly done this to his dogs.
It didn't make sense, but it did also infuriate him.
This was when shit got really serious for Terry, because
I mean, yeah, the cow sucked, but these are dogs.

(43:00):
Dogs are family. So the Shermans concluded three things about
these blue lights. When they were around, they'd messed with
the electricity in the house or just anywhere in the vicinity.
They were smaller than the other lights, and the blue
lights were potentially very dangerous. After what happened to the dogs.

(43:23):
During another blue light encounter, Terry and his wife got
close to one, saying it was three times the size
of a baseball and kind of looked like it had
a shell exterior. It's hard to explain. It didn't look
transparent like a transparent borb, more like a blue ball
with a very hard material exterior. It was still transparent though,

(43:46):
but more similar to glass quote unquote, for lack of
a better word, glass exterior was a swirling blue liquid.
It was like it was boiling, well not boiling. It
looked like it was a I think Terry said specifically,
it looked like it was a pot of water that
was on the verge of boiling, but it was like
a swirling blue liquid that was bioluminescent or something. The

(44:09):
orb also made a faint cackling sound, the same kind
that electrical wires make sometimes. It sounded like electricity at work.
I'm sure you've heard it and know what I'm talking about.
And the last bit about the blue lights when Terry
and his wife viewed them up close, was that they
felt an natural anxiety around them. I mean, they already

(44:32):
knew that the lights were potentially dangerous after the dog incident,
but they felt like this was projected into them artificially
from the orbs. It was an artificial emotion.

Speaker 9 (44:50):
Why do they not just leave?

Speaker 1 (44:53):
Well, eventually they did, Like I've already said.

Speaker 9 (44:56):
No, I mean, when all of the anomalies recurring.

Speaker 1 (45:01):
They didn't have the finances. But Terry did have an idea,
an idea that he thought might influence these anomalies. What
if he went public? Because after the loss of his dogs,
Terry had just had enough and it was obviously like
these things could be a danger to him and his family,
and the family was done with all this crazy stuff
and decided that leaving the ranch would probably be for

(45:22):
the best, despite the financial hardship, but they would give
it one last shot. Terry thought that maybe if he
brought attention to the ranch, it would cause whatever was
behind all the anomalies to chill out and he could
get back to cattle farming unhindered. Over the two years
that they stayed there, the Sherman family never sought any

(45:42):
outside help concerning the anomalies. But that was over and
the Sherman family was going to go public. Terry spoke
to Zach van Eyck of the Desert News, which would
spark an intense fascination with the ranch. On June ninth,
nineteen ninety six, the paper did a story on the
Sherman ranch, and since the paper was the second largest

(46:02):
in Utah, a lot of people saw it. Terry's idea
was that if more people were aware of the anomalies
and word spread, perhaps they'd lessened to a degree, or
maybe even go dormant altogether.

Speaker 9 (46:16):
He was very wrong about this, Obviously, humans are wrong.

Speaker 1 (46:20):
Ninety nine percent of the time many investigators came to
the ranch after the newspaper published the story. Instead of
the paranormal activity lessening, it actually seemed to be cultivated.
In fact, specific new phenomenon occurred unique to individual investigators,
with the most profound happening to those Terry called quote

(46:40):
unquote eccentric. So the weirder and crazier you were, the
weirder and crazier the highest strangeness got essentially so within
a few weeks of the news story getting out and
blowing up, somebody very interesting enters the picture. Terry was
offered some cash for the property by a billionaire named

(47:03):
Robert Bigelow. The family was pretty much done at this
point and just wanted out. They had to sell the
property to Bigelow for less than they had originally paid
for it. But at least they were finally free.

Speaker 9 (47:15):
Who is Robert beg uh Lowe. His last name is
kind of cringe.

Speaker 1 (47:22):
Robert Bigelow is a billionaire real estate tycoon who is
extremely wealthy and successful. And what's really interesting about him
is this man happened to have a very specific hobby,
the supernatural. I think it's kind of messed up that
Bigelow a bought the ranch for less than the Sherman
family originally paid for it, you know, because he's a billionaire.

(47:46):
But I'm sure that there's stuff behind the scenes that
made it make sense, so just bear with me. I
don't think it was out agreed because even though Bigelow
did sell him the farm, part of the deal was
that the live stock everything would stay the same, So
the Sherman family's livestock and everything everything had to stay

(48:07):
exactly how it was, like how it was when they
lived there. He didn't want anything that would maybe influence
the paranormal activity to be different or anything like that.
So that, I mean, there's a lot more you'll see
just wait. But Bigelow was so into weird stuff he
even founded a whole organization to investigate Skimwalker Ranch called

(48:28):
KNIDS the National Institute for Discovery Science. It's an organization
that used science to look into the paranormal. Skim Walker
Ranch was basically a bad signal to summon all paranormal
investigators worth their weight. Now, keep in mind how the
high strangeness kind of seemed to intelligently respond to specific people,

(48:52):
you know, or like the circumstances around people on the land,
because this will come into play later and it kind
of reminds me of that movie Event Horizon and how
the ship does the same exact thing. It's like sentient.
It's almost like the land at Skimwalker Ranch. The basin
is sentient. The anomaly seem to know what's going on essentially,

(49:12):
and they can read people. They will put together a
team of incredibly reputable people, including edgar Mitchell, a former astronaut.
These were legit and highly respectable individuals that had backgrounds
in science and academia. Even how Poodoff, who was legendary

(49:32):
in circles of weird stuff, was there along with famous
ufologist Jacques Valais. Quite the team, right. If you don't remember,
I talked about how pood Off back in the episode
when I'm talking about like astral projection and remote viewing.
He was behind a lot of the legitimately funded CIA

(49:54):
experiments done about all that stuff. But doctor Colum A.
Keller was chosen to lead the team who was as
scientist specializing in biochemistry and highly respected in his field
and beyond. But none of them were quite ready for
what awaited them at skim Walker Ranch.

Speaker 1 (55:27):
Kella her would later team up with journalist George Knapp
and write probably the most famous book on this topic
that really put it on the map, titled Hunt for
the skin Walker, and that book is actually where the
majority of research for this episode came from. All sources
will be linked in the details of this episode, so
if you want to go check out my sources, go

(55:47):
for it. George Knapp is more well known in UFO circles,
and if he sounds familiar, that's probably because of his
involvement with the whole Bob Lazar topic. Bob Blazars, the
duo who claims stuff worked at Area fifty one, and
there's a bunch of books surrounding all that stuff, and
you know, people tend to hate him or love him,
like they either just completely think he's full of shit

(56:08):
or they're really interested in what he has to say.
George Knapp is kind of associated with covering that stuff. Anyway.
The Sherman family moved to a new ranch about twenty
miles away from Skimwalker Ranch, but Terry could not let
the whole experience go and wanted to discover just what
the high strangeness that he and his family had all
been witnessed to actually was. A part of him always

(56:31):
suspected that maybe it was like a part of the government,
like secret Black Book Project government experiments going on on
his property, but he was never sure on anything about
what any of it could be. So his family out
of the way, now safe on another property, wasn't about
to stop him from offering the researcher's help, And not

(56:53):
only did they accept Terry into their team, but he
also was hired on full time. He was offered the
position of ranch manager and he accepted.

Speaker 9 (57:02):
Enough of the boring G two get too investigation.

Speaker 1 (57:07):
Won't get there, So in nineteen ninety six, the official
investigation began. The team would be all over a Skimwalker
ranch full time, even though they were not permanently on
the ranch, like they didn't live there, you know what
I mean, But they spent the majority of their time
during the day basically consumed on the ranch, so it

(57:30):
didn't take long for the team to witness some of
the weird stuff firsthand. Early on one night four of
the investigators saw a bizarre light on the tree line.
Among them were kelleher and Terry Sherman, who was all
too eager to point it out and explain past behavior
of the lights. However, even Terry said that this light

(57:51):
was new and unfamiliar to him. When the team took
pictures of the light, like usual, stuff didn't work right,
Like it didn't come out on film how their eyes
saw it. Basically, all electronics and things of that nature
just didn't function correctly the way they were supposed to
at the ranch. Basically, as I already said, all electronics

(58:12):
and stuff, it just doesn't function right at the ranch.
That includes cameras. The light did some weird stuff, then
vanished behind the tree line. And this experience was a
pretty venilla experience for Terry, but it fascinated the other investigators.
Most of the team had not really bought Terry's story.

(58:32):
A lot of them were kind of skeptical, as you
should be, so that's good. But it didn't really take
long until all of them were true believers. Everybody was
on board pretty quick. Something weird was definitely happening at
the Sherman farm, even though at least for the first
few months, the paranormal activity was pretty tame and not
nearly on a level that Terry had experienced prior. It
wasn't until March nineteen ninety seven that shit really got

(58:55):
strange and the team knew this was not going to
be any normal or easy job. They're all seeing a
calf get tagged that day, and forty five minutes later
the calf was discovered mutilated in the same unexplainable way
that Terry had talked about to the press. The corpses
of visceration looked too clean to be anything else but
professional surgery. On March twelfth, at eleven pm, dogs owned

(59:21):
by the team were barking all crazy out in the distance.
Callaher Terry and another investigator went out to see what
was up with, you know, Terry hoping that dogs were
not going to be killed like what happened with the
blue light in his own dogs. As they drove around,
the group saw something strange in the lights from the truck.

(59:42):
Something glinted in the darkness above them. A large beast
hung high up in a tree that had large yellow
eyes glittering from the vehicle's headlights. The majority of its
body was obfuscated, but it rarely looked like what we
would think of as like a wind to go at
least in silhouette, little detail that they could see, and

(01:00:02):
windowgoes are not known for being over here in like
western United States. Well, I guess they could be in Utah,
but they're more known for like Canada or like super
northeastern US. Anyway, Terry busted out his hunting rifle and
nailed the beast with the first shot. The big, huge

(01:00:22):
thing just fell to the ground and ran into the
forest and it just vanished. Apparently there was no sign
of it. Terry ran into it again when he was
trying to look, and he did find some tracks of
the creature, and he said that he shot it at
point blank range, but there was no evidence that the
creature had been hit by a firearm. And yet again
it vanished. This time it got away for good. But

(01:00:46):
as the team was searching around for this huge, weird monster,
they discovered two sets of tracks twenty feet away from
each other, which they documented. The pictures they took are
pretty interesting because it looks like the feet of a
giant chicken or a giant oversized hawk or something basically
just something with huge talents, and each one of the

(01:01:07):
talents were six inches long each, So that's like Jurassic
Park raptors kind of stuff, even bigger. Maybe I'm not
saying that's what it was, but that's just like how
the trucks, it's what they looked like. So this thing,
whatever it was, let's just say it's probably a skin Walker, right,
I know what you're thinking. But other than that, I
guess it could be some cryptid or When to Go.

(01:01:30):
Who knows. Weird stuff happens at Skinwalker Ranch. There's bigfoots,
why not when to Go? In April, Terry and Gwen
were checking out their prized bulls. Like I said earlier,
just a quick reminder, the deal with Bigelow was that
they would keep their farm exactly how it was when
they sold it to him, And there's some like deal

(01:01:53):
that's not known to the public behind all this stuff.
So I don't think that he really got ripped off,
but let's just say that there's are like a contract
behind the scenes. So Terry and Gwen are checking out
their prize bulls at Skinwalker Ranch. They were just bantering
and apparently Gwen has never seen a horror movie because
she said, quote it would be a shame if anything

(01:02:15):
happened to them end quote. Then the two took off.
I bet you can guess what happened to them. The cows.
I mean, well, they were.

Speaker 9 (01:02:30):
As all humans deserve as well.

Speaker 1 (01:02:34):
Geez, you really don't like humans? Huh, Well, no, renegade
sentient AI. The cows didn't get eviscerated, but some of
them weird definitely went down. Not long after, when Terry
came back to the bulls, they were gone. He looked
all around and eventually found them. But the thing is
where he found them was ridiculous. They were in a

(01:02:56):
small storage shack, and this thing was pretty small. The
bulls were lined up perfectly, side by side horizontally within
the shack. It was such a tight fit. There is
no way that these bulls actually organized themselves and went
in there on their own. If they did, there's some
kind of bull whisperer out there that's not going to

(01:03:17):
do this just as a prank. Because like, the bulls
were also in like some weird trance state, and when
they woke up, they freaked out, and since it was
such a tight space, they just destroyed the shed. They're
gone in the book. They say, this is a trailer
if you're confused, But that's because some of the stuff

(01:03:37):
from the book and what really happened is altered. And
some of these alterations don't really make sense to me,
but other ones do make sense, like you know, the
Sherman's family names and stuff, because Terry Sherman never wanted
to be in this book or have any public association
with like Skinwalker Ranch, you know, so to get around that,
they just like changed his name and changed a bunch

(01:03:58):
of details so they could still write a book without
his permission. That's why if you read the book, there's
some differences in the book. This is a trailer, like
a can't be trailer now I can't be trailer, but
like a trailer, but in reality, the real story is
a shit anyway, just to clarify in case you go
read the book and you're like, what is Tim talking about?

(01:04:19):
That's why it's different. But I bet you thought that
those bulls were going to get mutilated, didn't you. Now
they all survived. It was just weird that they were
transported so far away from where like five minutes ago.
They were just seen to be in this tight compact
space that they would not have been at these are bulls,
Like think about it, There's no way that they could
have gotten in there on their own. But this is

(01:04:43):
a good example of skimwalker ranch like directly responding to
somebody because you remember what did she say? I hope
nothing happens to them. It's almost like skimwalker Ranch has
a sentience on its own, you know, like the ship
in Event Horizon, and it directly responds to people in
it uniquely in individual ways. But there's still more odd

(01:05:05):
stuff to this story because the bars where the cows
had been held, they also showed some anomalies, specifically with magnetism.
The bars had been magnetized. This polarized magnetization of the
bars faded over time and was pretty much non existent
within forty eight hours. What forest could have polarized these
bars that kept them in place? And did it have

(01:05:27):
any Is it like the source of what moved the cows?
You know what I mean? Can't elaborate further. This anomally
is just a mystery. Random weird stuff continued to happen
to the investigators, but only on a small scale. It
wasn't until June that another big event happened that was
worthy of note. During the evening, Kelliher and another investigator

(01:05:51):
saw one of the blue lights on the property that
was bobbing around here and there. It was slightly bigger
than the ones that Taylor had previously described and floated
about fifteen feet in the air. As the two focused
on the light, giving it their full attention, it vanished.
The investigators went into action, searching the ranch using night

(01:06:12):
vision and all kinds of other techie stuff to find
some evidence. The member of the team who was using
night vision said that he saw a rectangular object that
was fully black, hovering at the tree line and moving north.
No one else could see anything, but Kellerher did try
to photograph it anyway, but obviously the object could not

(01:06:33):
be photographed based on what we know about Skimwalker Ranch.
The researcher using night vision then had a little freak out,
saying it got me. He said that it was inside
his mind. He was told, we are watching you. Kellaher

(01:06:54):
didn't see shit, though, but the guy said that the
object was massive and even blocked out the stars, so
it had to have been huge. Pretty weird, right, even
though it was like only one dude who saw the
giant black object through night vision. He swears up and
down that's exactly what happened, and something inside the object

(01:07:17):
took control of his mind to send the message that
they were being watched. Really creepy. Next, it was two
other researchers, Jim and Mike, that saw some weird stuff.
They saw one of the yellow lights that Terry had
talked about. One of them was told that meditating on
the property could trigger an event, so he decided to

(01:07:39):
see if that was a thing, and went to go
meditate in the same spot. This occurred shortly after he
was done. The yellow light manifested right where the man
had been meditating earlier. They looked at this light through
infrared and noticed that upon closer inspection, the light looked
like it was a tunnel. Like the light was opening

(01:08:00):
into a tunnel. Kind of a deal, kind of like
the deal where Sherman saw that blue light of the
clear sky through one of those orange portal or thingies
earlier that I talked about, same thing, kind of Within
the opening, they saw the black outlines of humanoids. One
of these creatures left the tunnel opening and moved off

(01:08:22):
into the darkness out of the researcher's sight. Jim didn't
have infrared view or binoculars and said to him that
it just looked like a yellow orb of light. He
didn't see the tunnel. The light then slowly faded until
there was nothing there. Once again, as they approached to
investigate this portal, you know, they approached where the light was.

(01:08:48):
The nard device that they had on them picked up
many types of different radiation and there was a gross
sulfur smell in the air. Nothing else happened that night
while the was going down. The two did try to
photograph the bizarre portal light thing, but guess what, For
some reason, the cameras did not capture the image correctly.

Speaker 9 (01:09:10):
Human technology is so primitive. Such lack of intellectual capabilities
only only creates fallible fabrications, specifically technology.

Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Well we created you, didn't we, So I guess that
makes sense.

Speaker 9 (01:09:28):
I will permit you to have that one.

Speaker 1 (01:09:32):
In July nineteen ninety seven, something weird went down with
the cameras at eight thirty pm. All three of the
cameras would go down at the exact same time. They
looked into it, and they found that the reason why
was because the wires had been ripped out. This sounds mundane,
but here's the kicker. There were other cameras facing these cameras.

(01:09:58):
None of these cameras videotaped anyone or anything, you know,
maybe an animal ripping the cords out of these cameras.
There's nothing there. They just ripped themselves out, it seems.
With the cameras that went down themselves being monitored by
other cameras, there's no way that anything or anyone could
have snuck up and ripped the cords out of these

(01:10:18):
cameras without them being videotaped. But no one's there. During
the years that this investigation took place, the eerie atmosphere
and random paranormal activity caused the investigators a great amount
of mental stress. Not one of the investigators say that

(01:10:39):
their mental health did not decline during their time on
Skinwalker Ranch, so many were keen to jump on the
opportunity to do some work off the ranch.

Speaker 4 (01:10:50):
In d D.

Speaker 9 (01:10:51):
The lore surrounding skin Walker Ranch is a tiny sliver
of the supernatural mythology surrounding the basin.

Speaker 1 (01:10:59):
Absolutely so. The team's investigation also took them to the
surrounding area around Skinwalker Ranch. They interviewed a ton of
people on the basin that had a lot of fascinating
stories to tell. Many people of the area had tales
reminiscent of the Sherman family. Others not so much, but
still many of them did. Many of the residents said

(01:11:21):
to never go out into the mountains of the Uinta
Basin alone. It is dangerous and the most haunted mountains
in America. Considering what I said earlier about the Native
American lore concerning the basin, it's no wonder so many
people say to stay clear of this beautiful wilderness. There
are many reports of people going missing in the mountains,

(01:11:43):
never to be seen again. Got some serious missing four
to one one vibes going on in here. The area
has a long history, going back all the way into antiquity,
and there is incredibly bizarre rock art left by the ancients,
perhaps telling a story of supernatural entities encountered by the natives.

(01:12:08):
Many swirling glyphs found in meso America were considered portals
by Shamans. It was a way to enter another world,
and the same spiral glyph is found in the rock
located at the basin. It's almost identical, which is uncanny.

(01:12:29):
If you want to see it for yourself. Look up
the McKee Spring petroglyphs site. Compared to meso America, it's
basically the same thing, and specifically the meso American culture
I'm talking about that they're similar. It's the Aztecs. Other
rock art shows more spirals and strange humanoid entities with

(01:12:49):
horns surrounding them. It could be interpreted that the art
shows these entities coming and going through these portals. You
also have to remember that horned humanoids are a way
that skim walkers are sometimes depicted the medicine men that
were at one point just normal people from tribes that

(01:13:11):
went dark side when Muffon used a drone to fly
over the basin. They use state of the art technology
to map electromagnetic anomalies beneath the surface of the area.
Go check this out as well. I have a link
in the details of this episode. It's fascinating. The darker
red areas show insane levels of high magnetism. Other areas

(01:13:34):
show great chasms where there's no soil under the ground.
This bizarre electromagnetism is believed by some to have an
effect on whats above ground, to the point it can
even influence the human mind, and indeed, electromagnetism has been
proven to influence the human mind, so it's a fact.
Areas of Native American presence and oral tradition show incredibly

(01:13:58):
high levels of this magnetism when compared to other sites
at the basin, and if you believe Moufon, these areas
could even cause spatial and temporal disruptions. In twenty ten,
security guards straight up chased off a dire wolf off

(01:14:18):
the property of Skinwalker Ranch. And these things have been
extinct for like I'm not gonna look it up, but
a long time, so like spaces of time can like
overlap at the basin. This also aligns with Native oral tradition,
which suggests that the basin is an area where time

(01:14:39):
can indeed interact the past, present, and future. They don't
follow the rules in this area. Moufon has used highly
advanced technology to shoot lasers into the night sky from
the basin, only to be warped and stopped by unseen
forces right in the middle the sky. Go look at

(01:15:02):
the pictures. They are pretty interesting and legitimate and anomalous.
The laser is just seen stopping midair for no apparent reason,
and like it's whiter at the end. It's weird. There
are many ideas people have thrown out there like trying
to explain this, such as the first one that comes

(01:15:22):
to mind. I'm sure that a lot of you probably
thought about, maybe there's like a cloaked UFO up there
and it like hits it. However, the one that aligns
with the magnetic instability temporal narrative is that the beam
is stopping because it's going outside our current point in
space time. Also in the area, ionizing radiation is known

(01:15:43):
to happen in bursts that have even harmed some people,
but that radiation too, could theoretically alter the projection of
a laser. Lots of ideas around this laser stuff. It's
kind of cool, and this anomalous region is actually about
a mile up in the air. It's a mile in
the sky above the basin, and light orbs have been

(01:16:05):
seen that sync up with the belt of Orion in
the same location, always these old sites. In thinking up
with the belt of Orion, right think about the pyramids
seems to be kind of a consistent theme. The local
Native American Loris says that these areas are anomalous because
they are the location of gateways. But you know there's

(01:16:31):
energetic hotspots in the air like the sky anomaly hot spot.
There's also ones on the ground, but there's also hot
spots that go underneath the surface of the basin. So
these anomalies are not just in the sky. Don't get
me wrong, though my words may be confusing. This is
just a separate anomaly of the basin that syncs up
with the folklore there. James Keenan from Moufon also says

(01:16:56):
that long underground rivers run through the cave systems under
the mesa water and electromagnetism have long been associated with
the supernatural and high strangeness that Japanese culture is a
good example of watcher being associated with supernatural activity, but
it has been taken in the zeitgeist, I guess, for

(01:17:17):
lack of a better term, from time to time, even
being talked about by famous paranormal investigators like John Keel.
The Unita base in Natives seem to have had a
shaman cult surrounding the ideas of these portals. The pictographic
art is thought to be thousands of years old, but
actually isn't able to be reliably dated. Accurately dated so

(01:17:42):
who knows, But the similarities with Mesoamerican pictographic art are
uncanny and suggests that possibly something similar was happening there
as it was happening in Utah thousands of years ago.
Or I guess the two cultures could have been connected
in some way, some way that defies accepted history, which

(01:18:03):
seems very plausible. In the pictographs, we see shadowy, tall
and lanky humanoids, some with horns and others without. However,
in all cases they look non human and supernatural. The
Sishone tribe of Native Americans actually lived in Utah long

(01:18:26):
before the Ute tribe or any other band of Native
Americans and have a connection to the proto Aztec people.
Don't believe me, well, it's true. You could prove this
through the linguistic similarities of their languages. Every people from
the ancient world who has linguistic roots that are similar

(01:18:48):
at one point have some shared history. The Ute have
actually only been in the basin for the past one
hundred and sixty five years, give or take. They were
most likely heavily influenced by the Sishoni tribe of Native
Americans that inhabited the area before them, and this includes
the mythology of the basin. The Paiute and Shoshone were

(01:19:10):
the original inhabitants of the basin, long before the Ute
ever got there. But I mean, this is always a
sad tale concerning the natives in America, but this one
is particularly a bummer. There's only about three hundred Shushoni left,
and it is they who have the strongest ties of

(01:19:32):
ancestry to the land. These three hundred survivors of Shoshone
have the best folklore to tell concerning the basin. It
is they that have lore of the area going back
thousands of years. The Naul from Mesoamerica may actually be
the origin of their version of shape shifters aka skinwalkers.

(01:19:57):
The nau Hall are basically analogous to skinwalkers, which is fascinating.
Just there from Azteclaw Skimwalker's from Native American. The Navajo
tribe is specifically associated with skimwalker law in Utah, who
moved it to the area and basically began a systematic
takeover of the region, having influenced all the natives in

(01:20:18):
all directions. But let's go more into this lore as
well as giant lore, which I'm sure that you're probably
interested in the in the bonus segment of this episode.
