Speaker 1 (00:00):

ninety four point one FM, WYAD online dot com that
you all can be with us. Also join this online
worldwide dra a podcast that I heard radio on Amazon
Music that you all could be with us as well.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Well.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
I know we're just a couple of weeks from Black Friday,
but for many people may feel early to be talking
about holiday shopping. However, Americans have started the season well
before Black Friday, with sixty five percent starting their shopping early,
especially like myself, as you guys know being an Amazon
Live host as well, we started in October. So between

(00:39):
the gift giving and hosting and traveling, there can be
a lot that people have to worry about. With you
feeling a little stressed out, I think our next guests
can really help. We're excited to welcome Lindsay Bryan Potter
into our broadcast today. Lindsay's a financial therapist, just gonna
help you guys navigate and only the holiday money stressors,
but also let you guys know we can go for
more information. Lindy, thank you so much for them to day.

(01:00):
Really appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I'm so happy to be here, Cyrus.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
So, lindsay, this is as a time of year that
definitely can have people stressed out. But why does holiday
spending cause so much financial and emotional stress for people?

Speaker 2 (01:11):
You know, money decisions are emotional, spending events and gifting
often feel like expressions of care and two and five
consumers feel more financially stressed this year than last year.
So I'm hoping that today we can talk about some
ways to dial down that stress by planning and preparing
ahead to reduce that stress.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
I love that, so let's start there. Then, lindsay, what
are some smart ways that our audience can plan ahead
and even set a budget that's realistic for them.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Making sure you're doing the things that you want to
do can help you have fun without feeling restricted. So
I always recommend writing out all of your events, travel
and gifting, and then getting really clear with yourself about
what are the things that are mandatory that are non negotiable,
and what are the things that you could say no to.
From there, locate your funds and you're spending towards the

(02:02):
things that are more mandatory or more joyful for you.
And if you're finding yourself feeling a little bit stressed,
you can turn to tools that can help you space
out your payments without high interest, such as using tools
like afterpay that allows you to pay over time without
having that additional stress of high interest.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
So lintin it leads me to this question then, because
of course we have to think past the holidays, right,
How can our audience balance both their long term financial
goals with the short term pool they can come from
holiday shopping this come of year.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Making sure you're prioritizing those financial goals is key. So
as you're listing out all those expenses that I mentioned earlier,
make sure that you are making a line item there
for things like your emergency savings or travel from there
that that can allow you to practice that financial self
care so you can say no and know that that

(02:54):
no is rooted in kindness instead of feeling like your
flys and just giving an answer off the cuff. That way,
you can prioritize your own financial needs, and when you
say yes to things, you're knowing that you're not saying
yes just out of obligation and overextending yourself and with.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Those long term financial goals in mind. In Lindsey, how
can we avoid that January spending regret. They could come
after the holidays and start the new year with the
healthier money mindset.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
If you find yourself in January like many of us,
which is why I laughed, feeling like you overspent a
little bit, it's okay, you're human. Giving your self credit
for the progress that you did make over the course
of the year is the first thing. And from there,
take a look at your spending and decide what are
the things that I ended up spending on that didn't
really feel good to me or didn't bring me joy

(03:45):
and use that as information, not as a way to
guilt yourself or shame yourself. Use that information to say
to yourself, hey, these are the things that I spent
on that I just didn't really love and that can
help guide you moving forward. And make sure you give
yourself credit for any positive momentum you made towards your
goals over the course of the year, and build that

(04:06):
momentum and that positivity and bring it with you into.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
The new year. Man, there really great tips for our
audience practical advice. As we're kind of navigating this time
of year and of course thinking about everything we have
to do, but also those holiday money stressors. They can
kind of take the joy out of things. How can
our audience find out more information and maybe how they
competed to find themselves more financially stress free.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yeah, good question. So I recommend visiting cash app and
after pay. These have the tools that you need to
manage your saving, your spending and your gifting and enjoy
the holiday season with way less financial stress.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Wendy, thank you so much for the great work you're doing.
Really appreciate the time and looking forward to speak with
you again.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Thanks Cyrus, take good care.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Thanks to you as well, and we think your audience
for tuning in. Another great segment of Conversations Alive again

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
