you to become.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Your best self.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
No scripture reminds us that the tongue is a small
thing that makes grand as speeches, but a tiny spark
can set a great forest on a fire. And that's
what we want to do today. We want to get
you fired up about our topic today. We'll be talking
about faith, resilience and the journey of healing. So you

(00:45):
know what I'm gonna tell you to do. Go get comfy,
get cozy, get your coffee or get your tea because
we are about to get started. Hello, Hello, Hello, and
thank you so much for joining me today on Daily
Spark for Doctor Angela. You guys know who I am.
I'm Doctor Angela Buschester and I am here to bring

(01:08):
you some enlightenment today, to inspire you, but more importantly,
to empower you to become your best self. And I
am so glad that you are spending some time with
me here today as the season starts to turn, and
we are in this time of changing. In our weather,

(01:31):
in the way that we dress, in our mindset, and
in our moods. We are going to shift as well.
The air has started to change and the leaves are
beginning to turn those brilliant shades of gold, red and amber,
and our spirits start to shift as well. Everything around

(01:53):
us is reminding us to be grateful, but also it
is a time to remind us that there is a
season for everything. October is a season of reflection, of
letting go, and of preparing for the new that God

(02:13):
has in store. It is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
and that means that we are pausing to honor the
warriors among us, those who are in treatment, those who
have survived, and those we carry in our memory. It
is a month to remind ourselves of the power of faith, resilience,

(02:39):
and of healing. So today we're talking about just that faith,
resilience and the journey of healing. No matter where you
find yourself today, whether you're walking through your own valley,
perhaps supporting someone you love, or simply refines reflecting on

(03:00):
life's seasons, I want you to know that you are
not alone. God is with you every step of the way,
So settle in with me for the next few minutes.
We're going to walk through scripture, through encouragement, and through
a few reflections that I believe will bless you in

(03:22):
this season of change, the season of a change. Now,
whether you call it fall or autumn, I find this
time of year to be quite beautiful. It is the
time where we start to shift the way that we

(03:45):
do the things that we do. Not that summer was
bad or not that autumn or fall is better than
any of the other three. But each season brings a
certain mindset, a certain energy, if you will, and in
that energy, we should do what God is suggesting that

(04:07):
we do. So let's jump in and start to take
a look around. When I think of autumn, I think
of how beautifully it mirrors life. The trees don't resist
the changing season, They don't fight to keep their leaves. Instead,

(04:29):
they let them go, trusting that what is lost will
make its way back for new growth in the spring.
And isn't that a picture of faith of resilience. Sometimes
the hardest part of healing is the letting go, letting

(04:50):
go of that anger. You know, we didn't ask for
this battle, Let that go. Let go of the fear
that things won't ever get better. Let go of what
used to be so that God can bring what is
to be next to you. Ecclesiastes three one says it

(05:17):
this way. To everything. There is a season and a
time to every purpose under the heaven. That includes seasons
of joy, yes, but also seasons of challenge, seasons of waiting,
and seasons of healing. I want to encourage you today,

(05:41):
don't despise the season that you're in. God has purpose
even here. Just as the autumn leaves fall, creating space
for rest before the new growth, God may be asking
you to release something so that He can bring more

(06:03):
into your life. Maybe for you it's a health struggle,
or perhaps it's emotional pain. Maybe it's the grief of
losing someone. Whatever it is, I want you to know
this season has purpose and it is bigger than just you,

(06:26):
and it can still bear beauty. There is a testimony
in resilience. Many times we don't see it straight on
because we're too busy going through the challenge. Hindsight is,
after all, twenty twenty, and our friends and family members

(06:48):
have a way of being able to sometimes see what's
happening because they have a different vantage point point of
view is so important. Being able to assess, to gather
the lesson along the way as the journey continues is vital.

(07:09):
I want to share a reflection that has stayed with me.
Years ago, I met a woman who had gone through
breast cancer treatment. She told me, doctor Angela, the scariest
part was not the chemo, not the surgery, not even
the hair loss. The scariest part was the silence at night,

(07:36):
lying there wondering if I was going to wake up tomorrow.
But then she said something that really perked my ears up.
She says, it was in those quiet nights that I
learned God's voice the clearest. It was, when everything else

(07:58):
was stripped away, that I heard him whisper I am
with you. This is resilience, Sparkers, if you have ever
been through something, as you all know, I too am
a breast cancer survivor, and tapping into that resilience is

(08:25):
what gets you through your prayers, sturdy you. Your faith
is the foundation that you need that roots you and
you know that you will be okay. Many of you
have heard me share my story, so don't worry. I
won't share here.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Today, but I.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Have shared this one thing that I've found really jumped
out the first time I answered it. And they said,
how did I feel in finding out that I had
breast cancer? And I said, though, the tears they just
started streaming down my face, even before I could like blink,
the tears were there. But I told the nurse practitioner,

(09:14):
disregard the tears that's on my face. What do we
do to get me better? My body simply has to
catch up to where my faith already is. It is
that resilience in knowing that I could stand on the
word of God Jeremiah twenty nine eleven has always been

(09:39):
my life verse paraphrasing. I knew that I could stand
on it because there is hope, there is a plan,
and God has a future for me. So that is
where I will reside. So when you start to talk

(10:02):
about the journey of your life, be it that you
are a breast cancer survivor or there has been some
other trauma that you have survived, know that it is
in those quiet moments that God many times speaks the loudest.

(10:22):
So let's not pretend that the journey isn't hard, But
choosing to lean into God's presence right in the middle
of it is the thing that makes the difference. Isaiah
forty one to ten reminds us of this. So do
not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed,

(10:45):
For I am your God. I will strengthen you and
help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
This is the kind of strength that carries us through
the night and into the morning, the kind of faith
that says, even if I'm trembling, I am still holding

(11:11):
to God's hand. And maybe today that's where you are,
or perhaps that's where you were yesterday, and your testimony
of resilience is what someone needs to hear. We didn't
go through and survive all that we went through and

(11:32):
survived to keep it to ourselves. Maybe right now you're
in that quiet place and you're asking God where is he?
Let me tell you He is right there with you.
And just like that woman discovered, it may be in
the silence, in the stillness in the night that you

(11:58):
hear him thet.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
I was.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
In such a wonderful place while getting my treatments. Many
of my attending nurses were also cancer survivors, so they
too had been in the chair in my shoes at
a particular point in life. So sharing their stories helped

(12:27):
everyone to understand that they too would be better. So
today I want to remind you, wherever you are on
this journey, God is with you and it will be okay.

(12:50):
Alrighty everyone, it is time for us to take a
very short break. But don't worry. We will continue this conversation.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
We'll be back right after this, and we are back.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Thank you so much for joining me for Daily Spark,
Doctor Angela. I'm your host, Doctor Angela, but Tester, I
am talking about resilience today and it takes a lot
sometimes to get through the journeys that life has for us.
So today we're talking faith, resilience and the journey of healing.

(13:35):
Let's jump back into that conversation. One of the things
that we need to do while we are on this
journey of life is to walk in faith while healing.
So how do you keep walking in faith while you're healing?

(13:56):
I know I can hear you asking the question. Let's
talk about it few examples in practical ways. First, prayer,
I cannot say this enough. Pray, pray, pray. Prayer is
our lifeline to God. It doesn't have to be fancy.

(14:20):
Sometimes it is as simple as just saying, Lord help
me today. Simple. Now we know this to be true
in part because there's statistics out there where medical journals

(14:43):
have shared the statistics that those who have a sense
of faith, those who pray when it comes to their
loved ones who are in hospital getting healing from whatever
is going on with them. Be it that they themselves
are the ones doing the prayer, or they have friends

(15:04):
and family members that are praying for them and they
are aware of said prayer, but just the act of
the prayer has a positive effect on people. They leave
the hospital sooner than those who do not have the
same point of the youth. So that's wonderful to know

(15:29):
that it's people of faith. We already know that, but
there's just an additional layer of confirmation for those who
sometimes waver or doubt or even wonder is it really true?
Or you know, you don't want to have a blind
sense of faith, That's what folks say. I don't want
to just be following this thing because my parents wanted

(15:53):
me to, you know, be a Christian. Well, now you
can determine it for yourself. And see that in your
heart of hearts you've always known it to be true.
But if you're a numbers type of girl or guy
or gal, then there you are. You can google it
and see for yourself as well that the science is

(16:14):
backing up what your faith has already told you. Secondly,
journaling write down what you're feeling, even if it's messy.
Healing often comes when we put our plan into words.
Now I cannot reintererrate this enough. No one has to

(16:34):
read your journal, right unless you're handing it out or
you're leaving it in a public place for someone to
read it, then no one is going to put their
eyeballs on what you're writing. So if you're writing down today,
I didn't feel well today, it hurt. Today was just
a you know, negative one hundred day. That's okay. Okay,

(17:01):
you are healing because tomorrow it might not be negative
one hundred. Tomorrow it might only be negative fifty. While
it may still be negative, guess what it was better
than the day before, right, So in our journey of healing,

(17:22):
journaling helps us to also see our progress. So if
you're the type of person who likes to write it
all down and then go back once you're fine, like
once you've won the race, you want to go back
and see where you were, or perhaps you keep it
and on your one year anniversary you go back and

(17:42):
you look through your journal to see, you know, on
this day, what was happening, right, Like, if that's if
that's your thing, I'm not necessarily suggesting that, but if
that's your thing, then what a great way to see
where you started to where you are now, to see
how your mindset has changed, how you have grown through

(18:05):
the challenge and the struggle. So journaling it can help
you in the moment and also help you in your
future to have a sense of perspective. Thirdly, community, don't
try to walk through it alone. God designed us for connection.

(18:29):
Lean on family, Lean into your friends, lean into your
church family, let people walk with you. Far too often
we believe these shows that we watch on television that
this person is, you know, stronger than humanly possible. They

(18:52):
do everything by themselves. They have this false narrative of
what they're capable of doing, and it just all turns
out right, that's not life. Life is the connections that
you have, even if it's just a small connection. If

(19:14):
you have someone to reach out to. You have a connection.
Now I'm not just speaking on those political or business
professional connections that comes through networking, and it's always great
to have those people. Well your personal life, you need
just a regular old guy and gal in your corner too.

(19:38):
You know that high school classmate that you still are
in contact with, and you guys have been best buds forever,
or perhaps that college friend that you made, or they
might have even been your roommate and you guys are
still besties. It's okay to have people that are not
connected to our work, that are in our lives that

(20:01):
help us along the way. So make sure that you
are spending time building community as well. And finally, self care.
You have to take care of yourself. Yes, self care
is spiritual, eating well, resting, taking a walk, taking a

(20:24):
nap if needed, laughing with your loved ones, laughing all
by yourself at a really great joke you just heard
on TikTok, whatever it is. These are all of the
ways that we can honor our body and the spirit
of God. It is how we are able to connect

(20:46):
with God in a way that keeps us in a
sense of balance. Philippians four three tells us this. I
can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. That
includes the journey of healing, that includes finding resilience in

(21:07):
the middle of struggle. I can do all things through
Christ whose strengthens me. And just like the earth rests
in autumn before winter, our spirits sometimes need rest. To

(21:27):
don't be afraid to pause, to breathe, to take just
to beat for a moment, to let God renew your strength.
My dear sparker, I want to invite you into a
moment of reflection. If you have a journal nearby, write

(21:49):
this down, if not simply committed to memory, or even
text it to someone. Here we go, What does God
asking me to release in this season so that I
can heal? It's a very simple question, yet it could

(22:12):
be so profound. There are going to be layers for
many of you. It could be learned behaviors. Perhaps you
have been carrying around emotional baggage that was never yours
to begin with. Are you trying to be or do

(22:34):
something that was never a part of the plan and
the vision that God had for your life? Or perhaps
it's just simply that time to shed that and move on.
Every wonderful and amazing thing that happens in our lives

(22:56):
has a life cycle, and if you've been holding on
for too long, perhaps now is the time to release
your grasp, ever so slightly, so that something new can
slide into that place. If it is meant for you,

(23:17):
then it will be for you. Maybe it's fear that
you're dealing with. Maybe it's unforgiveness. Maybe it's the need
to control every outcome. Whatever it is, let it go,
release it like the trees do in autumn. If you

(23:40):
will let me take a moment to pray this simple
prayer over you and yours God, for everyone listening today
who is in the season of healing. I ask your
presence to rest on them. Give them the courage that
they need when they feel weak, give them the peace

(24:04):
that they long for when they feel anxious. Lord, I
ask that you give them the joy that they need
even in the middle of the storm. Remind them that
you are their God, that you are their healer, and
through your strength they will gather their strength, and that

(24:29):
you are ever present even in times of trouble. Ama,
As you, my dear Sparker, go through this month, I
encourage you take action to schedule your screenings. If you

(24:50):
know that there's something health wise that you need to
deal with. Support a friend who's walking through treatment, share
whole wherever you can, but also be understanding if that
person is a person of faith, Understand that it is

(25:12):
okay if they have a moment where they say I'm
just tired, because that's true, their body is tired. Be there,
hold their hand and just let them know I can't
imagine what you're going through, but know that I'm here

(25:36):
for you. Tell me what you need and I'll do it.
In those moments of just being a listening ear, of
just being in their presence can mean so much, And
if they need something, usually they'll tell you. Sometimes they

(25:58):
don't need anything, just to know that you're there. So,
however this season develops or rolls out for you, be
aware remember that the same God who paints the leaves
in autumn is the same God who paints beautifully in

(26:20):
every season of your life. It's today's episode that is
the catalyst for you to remember that paintings come in
every shade of beautiful, in the vibrant colors of spring,
in the glow of summer and the warmth of autumn,

(26:45):
or in the crispness of winter. Every season brings something
to us, and when we learn the lessons of every season,
we find that we find ourselves beautifully with the vision
that God has for our lives. Alrighty, everyone, thank you

(27:10):
so much for spending some time with me here on
Daily's Spark with Doctor Angela. If today's episode has blessed you,
please be sure to share it with someone that you
know that needs a bit of encouragement. Thank you guys
so much for spending some time with me here today.
I appreciate your doing so. You could have been anywhere
and you chose to spend it with me. Thank you

(27:31):

his face upon you. But you receive his grace and
his mercy in all that you do. Until last time, everyone,
remember that you you are blessed in the Lord. Have
a great day everyone, Bye bye,

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
