It's one thing to have a killer cut to kick
off a new album. It's another one to have that
song directed at the record company going oh yeah, which
is exactly what Rush did with twenty one to twelve
Overture and the Temples a Syrinx and Hello are how
are you? Welcome back in. I'm Don Clark. Thank you
so much for coming down and hanging out with us
once again down here in Don's basement. This is actually
(07:49):
part two of one that we did not too long ago.
People have said it can make or break the album,
that first track of vinyl, and thanks to your suggestions,
we've got some opening songs that haven't seen the light
of day in a long long time. As we present,
the first cut is the greatest. When this album came out,
people sat down and listened to it over and over
(08:12):
and over trying to figure out what exactly Donald Fagan
and Walter Becker were talking about with these songs. But
the album is spectacular. From the royal scam, this is
Steely Dan and kids, Charlemagne, Welcome to Don's basement.
Speaker 4 (08:28):

Speaker 5 (16:13):
The supergroup of supergroups and the song that kicked off
the debut album from Bad Company and Can't Get Enough
and Don Clark and Don's Basement with the first cut
is the greatest. It's a tough situation when you've got
a band and you put your heart and soul into
every single track. Now you have to sit down with
the producer and you have to choose just the right
(16:35):
song to kick off that masterpiece. These guys chose wisely.
From Breakfast in America, this is super Tramp and Gone
Hollywood in Don's Basement.

(30:07):
the perfect cut to kick it off. Cycles from the
Doobie Brothers and that's the doctor in Don's Basement. When
these guys came out with the Love Drive album, they
established a formula that was going to take them to
the top. With the next album, they solidified it the
album Animal Magnetism. This is the cup that kicked it off.
Here the Scorpions make it real in Don's Basement.

stories to tell on this album. It was put together
