Luciano Alberghini Maltoni dialoga con il Venerabile Ajahn Chandapalo
Ajahn Chandapalo
Nato a Preston, nel Lancashire (Inghilterra), inizia ad interessarsi alla meditazione buddhista durante l’ultimo anno di studi presso la facoltà di Ingegneria dell’Università di Lancaster. A Manchester, ad una celebrazione del Vesak nel 1978, incontra per la prima volta il Ven. Ajahn Sumedho, della tradizione Theravada dei monaci della foresta. Durante gli studi per il Master in Ingegneria Biomedica presso l’Università di Dundee, incontra il Ven. Ajahn Chah ad Edimburgo. Dopo aver ricoperto per quasi un anno la posizione di Assistente Ricercatore nell’Unità di Bioingegneria di Glasgow, sceglie di intraprendere il sentiero monastico, e prende gli otto precetti come anagarika (postulante) presso il Monastero di Chithurst nel West Sussex.
SANTACITTARAMA, “Il giardino del cuore sereno”, è il primo monastero in Italia della tradizione Theravada, “La Via degli Anziani”. E’ stato fondato nel 1990 per venire incontro all’interesse e al desiderio manifestati sia dai Buddhisti italiani che dagli immigrati della comunità asiatica (in particolare Thailandese, Cingalese, e Birmana). L’associazione Santacittarama, riconosciuta nel 1995 come Ente Religioso, è un membro dell’Unione Buddhista Italiana. Il monastero è situato a circa 50 km da Roma, sulle colline Sabine, nel comune di Poggio Nativo, provincia di Rieti.
