(00:02):
So I was reading an article thatwas calling Falcon Crest the forgotten soap of
the eighties. I want to Iwanna. I'm gonna type in this week
because I saw it and I waslike, I got so, I got
some thing. Okay, yes it'san article name this Okay saying this vine

(00:28):
pair dot com. They're like, the freaking the title is the forgotten eight
nineteen eighty soap opera that changed NapaValley forever. And I said forgotten.
I'm like forgotten. That's very interesting. Uh to say that it premiered,

(00:54):
I tay you one. I'm lookingat I'm looking at look at I'm look
at this article. It's there's there'sa uh personally risis really is not favorable.
It's the way they write this articlebecause even times like Viniar Set of
oil Rigs, they're trying to saythat basically Falcon Crest would trying to be

(01:17):
like Dallas, and so they justchanged the scenery. And of course it
was right behind the show Dallas thatcame on afterwards you all remember what they
remember them. They're also kind oflike doubting that Jane Wyman was on because

(01:40):
it just happened to be the exwife of the new President Ronald Reagan,
which was kind of I remember, like Wreenne, that was really interesting having
her on there on a hot TVshow and her husband is like her ex
husband is the president. That's kindof crazy, but he was an actor,
and it happened. They all startedtalking kind of like, well,

(02:00):
you know, just before a fewmonths podcast premiere, The New York Times
had a whole piece on the virginin California wine industry and the first ever
Napa Valley wine auction became like thisplace of opulence and conflict. So they're
saying, and viv Kresty did evenmore to do that, but they're trying

(02:23):
to call it basically Dallas in theNapa Valley with a female tyrant, Angela
Channing vineyards instead of oil rings,a six month comin a plot to take
over the world. I'm like,I wouldn't go that far. I feel

(02:44):
like, and I'm sure you guysdo. Two. Angeler Channing was a
different kind of villainous of sorts. The way she carried herself, the lines,
how she talked, how she walked, how she did so underhanded things

(03:06):
she wasn't JR. Jr. Isvery different kind of villain, just like
Abby On not slaying was a verydifferent villain, just like you know,
Alexis was very different villain. Imean, the four of the big villains
of these eight, they're not thesame. They're not. To be honest,
I don't think they're similar. It'sI would not even I wouldn't even

(03:29):
do that. But one of thethings they're saying, of course, is
Fogen Crest doing this really did upthe ante and did help Napa Valley and
I'm sure Sonoma and all that upthere in the Wine Country. It did
help it. It did help it. What I say forgotten, I think

(03:50):
I think folks do remember Flagen Crush. You mentioned the eighties. I mean
people talked about the eighties and soaps. I think people say Falcon Crest.
I know, Dallas and Dynasty comeup first for most people. I mean
for other people would be Dallas, not Slanding or ninety called first. But
I don't think people forget. Idon't think people have forgotten Falcon Grests.
I don't think they have. Youtell me if you think I do,
you think they have, tell me. But I feel like, yes,

(04:13):
Dallas and Dynasty were the biggest outof the four, completely biggest out of
four, but val Crest had hadits was a hits also, it was
a top ten hit, folks.It was a hit. But I wouldn't
reduce it to just those terms.I think I think it's almost that's kind
of reductive. It's kind of likejust this. It's like, it's lazy
to me. But I see that. And of course you know that certain

(04:40):
rudets from certain magazines look down onsoaps, like some people do look down
on soaps or whatever anyway, sothat's part of that. It's part and
parcel of that whole thing. ButI was like, no that, I
would say, yes, similarities, all the similarities would be all the four
take place in different parts of thecountry, and it was part to the

(05:00):
country. Are the backdrops of theseshows, but also are a part of
these shows. The vineyards are amajor character on Falcon Crest. Oil's major
character on Dallas. There's you anoil, You're gonna do comparison. The
dynasty had oil too, and thatwas that was and that was you know,
Denver and I was a major Denverwas a major character. Now saying

(05:21):
he had Los Angeles, the culde Sac was a major member. So
those are all major members of theshow. So I so I'm gonna go
that direction and say mcau yeah, there's some similarity there, possibly, but
I think they're all all four showsto me, have very distinct, very

(05:41):
different distinct personalities, I think. So of course you're telling what you think.
Of course, I'm Jamesius the fundcrist after. So you can follow
it on all any of the audiostreaming services and I'll talk to you next time.
