Most people say they want the truth...but do they really? Maybe, it's really validation they seek. It's easier to surround ourselves with voices that echo our beliefs than to face the discomfort of being challenged. But here's the catch, true gowth happens when we we're willing to confront hard truths, not just hear what feels good.

If you resonate with this, and you want the truth...not just validation; try these four steps. Listen in on your favorite place for podcasts.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hi friends, I'm Laura, and welcome to my podcast, Her
Journey Towards Change. This is a faith based life coaching
podcast for women who, like me, are on a journey
to live the best life possible. And then something happens,
something unforeseen, and everything changes. Life feels foreign and you
feel stuck and it's difficult to move forward and reaching

(00:27):
out can be hard. Right. Believe me, I know if
this is you, this podcast is for you. I don't
claim to have all the answers, but I know who does.
God wants more for us, for you and for me.
You are created to live your best life. So I
hope you will go on this journey with me to

(00:49):
a more positive perspective and take those hard steps together
through Her Journey Towards Change. Together, let's break through the
barriers which are holding us back from achieving what God
has called us to be. So let's go, and I
hope you will go on this journey with me. Hello everyone,

(01:22):
and welcome back to the podcast. I'm so glad you're here.
You are listening to Her Journey Towards Change, and I
am Laura, your host, and we are into the first
week of twenty twenty five. Can you believe it. Where
did this past year go? But as I talk about that,

(01:44):
this first week has been, it's been rough. And to
everyone that was affected by the New Orleans tragedy, my
heart is with you in this time of sorrow. May
you find strength in your community and comfort and shared
memories of your loved ones and hope and the love

(02:06):
that surround you. I want you to know you're not alone,
and our thoughts and prayers remain with you as you heal.
And I'm it's just so sad to see what our world,
in our community and our nation has come to. But
we are in a new year, and this podcast is

(02:30):
all about change, positive change, and that's what I want
to lead into with today's episode. We're into episode number
ninety seven, and I want to call it do you
crave truth or do you crave or want validation? I

(02:52):
don't know about you, but I've recognized myself as a
people person and a people want And what I mean
by that is I love to watch people. Not in
a creepy way, but I love to go to like
parks and just sit on the park bench and just

(03:13):
watch people, watch how they play, move speak, talk, interact
with others, Sometimes they're just by themselves, like me, and
I'll just sit and watch them. I like to go
to the mall and watch people as they're walking and
interacting as family members, and you learn a lot about

(03:36):
watching people. I watch people on airplanes. I watch people
even when I'm in the passenger seat in a car
and I look over, and I can learn a lot
just in those few minutes at a stoplight. Sometimes they're arguing.
Sometimes they are listening to music, and I can see

(03:57):
that they're enjoying the music they're listening to. So I
love to watch people, and I'm sure that there are
people out there watching me. But there's something about observing
how others carry themselves and the way they react and
the way they speak, or even the way they avoid

(04:19):
certain truths that make me think deeper about my own life.
And it helps me catch moments where I wasn't being
completely honest with myself, times when I wasn't really searching
for truth but for validation, for someone to tell me

(04:40):
I was right or that I was enough. Isn't that
what we all want? Just be honest. We all want
to be told we're right, and we all want to
be felt like we're enough. And the more I've reflected,
the more I've realized how easy it is to blur
the line between wanting truth and just wanting to feel seen.

(05:03):
But real growth, the kind that actually changes you, only
happens when you're willing to face the truth, even when
it's uncomfortable. You know, most people say they want the truth,
but do they really? Do you really? I mean seriously?

(05:23):
Often it's validation they seek. It's easier to surround ourselves
with voices that echo our beliefs than to face the
discomfort of being challenged. But here's the catch. True growth
happens when we're willing to confront hard truths, not just

(05:46):
hear what feels good. So how can we tell if
we're seeking truth or if we're seeking validation and what
happens when the truth doesn't align with their narrative? I
think you can tell by how you react to different opinions.
If you're seeking truth, you'll stay open minded, curious, and

(06:10):
willing to hear ideas that challenge your thinking. If you're
seeking validation, you might ignore or avoid viewpoints that don't
match your own. You get defensive, or you only listen
to people who agree with you. So When the truth
goes against what we believe, it can really feel uncomfortable,

(06:33):
sometimes even upsetting, and it's easy to ignore it or
make excuses to protect our pride. But avoiding the truth
keeps us stuck, and who wants to be stuck. Look,
we're in twenty twenty five. It is time to just
not be stuck anymore. It's time to move forward in

(06:54):
facing it even when it's hard. Helps us grow, It
helps us learn, and it helps us become better versions
of ourselves. So if you really want the truth and
not just validation, try these four things. Number one, check
your motives. Ask yourself, am I looking for honesty or

(07:19):
just hoping to feel right? Being honest with yourself is
the very first step. If you can't be honest with yourself,
you can't do the next steps. Number two, get comfortable
being uncomfortable. Truth isn't always easy to hear, is it.
If something challenges you, pause and sit with it for

(07:42):
a moment instead of pushing it away. Growth happens in
the hard moments. Number three, listen to different opinions. I
mean really listen. Surround yourself with those people who think differently.
It doesn't mean you have to agree, but hearing new

(08:03):
perspectives it helps you see the bigger picture. And Number four,
ask tough questions. Don't be afraid to dig deeper. What
ask yourself? What if I'm wrong? Yeah, you could be?
Most likely you are? Or ask yourself could there be

(08:24):
more to this? I think asking these questions can open
the door to personal growth. So I think we need
to be open and not defensive. It's easy to shut
down when we feel challenged, but staying open allows you
to learn and grow instead of staying stuck. And growth

(08:46):
matters more than being right. Growth matters more than being right.
The goal isn't to win an argument. If that's your goal,
you're not gonna You're not gonna win. It's to become wiser, stronger,
and more self aware. So as I wrap up today's episode,

(09:09):
I want to leave you with this thought. Seeking validation
isn't always a bad thing. We all want to feel
seen and we all want to feel valued, but when
it comes at the cost of the truth, we can
end up losing ourselves in the process. Real growth, healing,

(09:31):
and authenticity it comes when we're brave enough to face
the truth even when it's uncomfortable. So ask yourself in
those moments of reflection, are you searching for what's real
or just what feels good? I think that if we
all could deep within ourselves, we're going to realize that

(09:55):
we are not perfect, we are flawed, and it's time
to stop pointing the finger at other people and start
looking at ourselves. That's what we need to start doing
in this year, and not tomorrow, not next week. It
needs to start now, right now. So I hope that

(10:16):
this episode has been helpful for you, and if it has,
give me a like. You can follow me on all
of the platforms where podcasts are found. You can find

(10:56):

Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
