Per completare la campagna acquisti dell'estate del '41, il Torino ingaggia il sedicenne Virgilio Maroso: un ragazzino che sarebbe diventato di lì a breve il difensore più forte e ammirato del mondo. Nella stagione 1941-1942, dopo la grande opera di rinforzo da parte di Ferruccio Novo, si vedrà per la prima volta qualcosa che assomiglia molto al Grande Torino, anche se la lotta Scudetto sarà vinta dalla Roma, complice una brutta sconfitta granata a Venezia nel finale di stagione. Ma sarà proprio a Venezia che cambierà per sempre il corso della storia.
