Hello everyone, and welcome back to continuing journey research or
review or look at spirituality. Yes, we were talking about
the fire within and that's our topic this week. Work

bridges a critical gap between what we call what the classes,
the spiritual and irrational and each each and every one

and enthusiasm as we embrace opportunities to become all that
we can be. When we walk with spirit, we accomplish
more with lafetime energy and resources. We leave work with

came to it, wow. When we work with spirit but
look forward to going to work is an important part
of our self expression instead of dreading is something we
have to do until the pension comes in. This kind

of work doesn't have to be in the creative our
can mean anything that we do with spirit and from spirit. Creativity,
by its simplest definition, it's kind of up with a
new way to do something, maybe new painting, a piece

of culture, musical composition.

But far more often creativity sufferces in incremental improvements that
we make daily in our lives.

I remember I went to Watchhare down in Oxfordshire in
England a number of years ago, and I was speaking
to a lady from overseas, an Asian lady, and I
mentioned that I was an engineer, are involved in engineering,
fire and safety engineering. She said, what a marvelous job

you do. What a eat spiritual job that you're involved in,
said m. I was rather curious and said, how can
that be? She said, he's only to be sitting, for example,
in a monastery or meditating in the top of a mountain.
Hill's being being within the real world, being within the workplace.

It's a creativity that you're involved in making our world
safe for everyone that you come in touch with. It's
that creativity, and I love the well being that you
express in your daily activity, is your daily work. Until
that time, I had never seen it that way. I

had thought that spirituality was something really special, nothing to
do with me as an engineer. Huh, that's this woomu
stuff that people talk about, that's nothing to do with engineering.
And then I appreciated and I came to understand everything

(04:06):
we see in doing world as an element of spirituality
to it. When you look at in that way through
that lens of creativity and expression, it's a bit about
when manufaction workers figure out to cut scrap and ways
by reducing bottlenecks and improving quality of the products. Creativity,

(04:31):
as I say, is at work. When a law firm
figure out an innovative approach to challenging case creavity is
at work there. When a medical office staff improved scheduling
so minimvise both the physician and patient waiting time, that's creativity.

When it was when the staff of one kind brainstorm
how to energize manday morning staff meeting. The result was
two or three minutes of stretching at the start of
the meeting. I remember a number of years ago I
was in Singapore in the middle of a big construction yard.

It was a shipbuilding company and they were building an
offshore model. Before work started, it was a form of
tai chi of stretching, and it was all the harmonization
and the music blaring out the pie's system was marvelous

(05:37):
to watch. There was a tremendous surgery of energy. It
was palpable, you could feel it within the air. Understanding
it was really truly creative not only work, but they
stuck to it. Became a way of being a way
of working for them. Now these guys were and really

(06:01):
the bowels of ships and very confined spaces doing their construction,
doing the welding, and it saved saved time, it saved injuries.
Was a marvelous activity set that they adopted. As intense
as the yearning for creativity and passion our work is.

(06:25):
There's another part of this that yarns equally to be
rational and to develop our mental and physical capabilities or capacities.
This part of yarns to be productive and produced things
we need for the physical survival. This is a part
that most of us have overused in our workplaces. It's

(06:48):
exclusion of our other part. Work offers us a unique
setting where to bridge decree of the rational and productive
and bring I believe a sense of wholeness to our
lives in simpler cultures, work, play and art are not distinguished.

People put their whole being into everything they do and
bring creativity, passion, artfulness to the simplest of tasks. There's
a sense so if we are to be alive and
our work, it's time to put spirit back into her work.
A lady the name of Mary Beachlor, she's a CEO

(07:33):
and co founder of Racing Strollers. It's called brings a
concept learn from Sufi practice to her successful company. She says,
any work is good work and her first job is
to do good job at whatever we do. Many describe

(07:54):
a spiritual approach to what is bringing consciousness and spirit
of joy and in the doing of their work to
any job. This idea, particularly, I done quite a lot
of work in India and this is this idea is

(08:16):
reflected the widely documentary life of Mahamma Gandhi. He brought
the spirit to everything he did, but it was leading
a protest, waving his own cloth or cleaning toilets. And
one client group I was working with opposed this question.

(08:36):
If you go to the office and do all the
things you onrmly do, but instead saying you're going to work,
you said you're going to play. What difference would it make?
That's what we're saying. Instead of saying, I'm going to
be a workplace, I'm going to play. That's a mindset.

(09:01):
What difference would it make to you? The resulting dialogue,
whatever you would call it, produce several flip chart sheets
of outcomes. The members there thought we'd be a positive
change and their organization. The kind of things that they

(09:24):
talked about is we be less conscious of time, would
be more flexible. We do things that were not in
our job description, not keeping tightly to it. That's not
my job mentality. We'd have more variety in our work,
would have greater passion for what we do. We're more

(09:46):
tolerant of others the things that didn't do or their
shortcomings or differences. Would make fewer but better decisions. Would
involve more people, but more focused, a little bit more creative.
Would have more face to face communications with greater information exchanges,

(10:09):
deeper relationships, more opportunity to ask questions and to clarify
this big thing of misunderstanding misinterpretations. Would have less stress,
less stress related sickness and injuries. Eye the safety path
comes in there as well. You could say, most of

(10:33):
these results are feedby could have come from a course
on modern management, but they didn't. They came from a
question to ask people to look at the work as play,
to chase change their mindset, change the relationship to what
as to another team that was facilitating what would it

(10:55):
take for each of them to experience joy? Just one
joy in the work? One lad said, I said, I
I couldn't have joy at work.

Joy is what I have a churture at home.

Imagine that can I have joy in the workplace? Has
been said that when we change the metaphor, we change
the world. Nearings leave the sweetish term for business, it
means work as nourishment for life. Has been explored with

small groups and in a number of countries as a
new spiritual metaphor for our work. I say that again,
work as nourishment for life. How could the stress and
disagreement of this lad distinct member have changed? And he

chosen to make his work part of his spiritual practice
by choosing joy and service? And what he did? What
did we chose to be more waiful? When we unleash
your passion to do work with spirit, it feeds as
fell as fool of passion joy. It truly doesn't nourishes,

it gives his vitality and energy, this inner fire, the
spirit within. So this we ask for you this coming
