Mike Murray stands as a multifaceted Recording Artist, Composer, Musician, and Producer in the Smooth Jazz and Chill Out genres. His journey into the realm of music commenced during his formative years, where summers spent at camp ignited his passion for the piano, played on a humble upright instrument. This initial introduction laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong passion.During high school, Murray’s musical trajectory took an unexpected yet compelling turn when he secured a spot in a local funk band. However, his role evolved from pianist to drummer, revealing his adaptability and versatility. Though these musical seeds were sown, life beckoned him forward to explore new horizons.Across the years, Murray’s musical horizons were greatly expanded by the influence of icons like George DukeStanley ClarkeFourPlaySantanaHiroshimaPaul HardcastleAlex BugnonEarth Wind & FireSly StoneMandrill, and an array of other revolutionary talents. With the release of his newest single, "Global Warning," the forth of seven singles in a series called Seven Stories, Mike Murray continues his musical journey, blending smooth grooves with deep stories. Following the bold energy of “ewe do ewe,”which marked a pivotal moment in his evolution, Murray takes the next step in his growth, inviting listeners to experience a sound that’s personal, real, and always rhythm-driven.With Seven Stories, Murray begins a fresh chapter—one that brings together smooth grooves, real stories, and thoughtful moments. This new collection builds on the spirit of “ewe do ewe,” staying true to the idea of following your own path, but with a deeper sound and a wider range of feeling.

Yes?

Speaker 4 (05:24):
All right? You got history with me, Mike Murray. You
got history with.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Me, absolutely absolutely, and there's been good history too, yes
it has.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
I am coming into my tenth year anniversary and you're
on my show way back in twenty twenty one, twenty
twenty two, and twenty twenty three.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Right right right, Yes.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
That was when I first discovered you. And I'm like, oh,
he's got some cool jazz. That's some smooth, cool jazz.
And I've been stuck with you. I've been stuck with
you ever since. I'm a fan.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Well, I appreciate those very very kind words.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
You're very welcome. You're very welcome.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
And before I forget, let me just thank your listeners
for tuning in as they do tune in and any
other listeners who are listening at the moment out there.
Thank you so much for your support.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
All right, I want to thank them for tuning in
My fans and followers out there. You're welcome to text
hello or shout out. It will be seen, it won't
be missed. So as we move along here, that first track,
Global Warning, What is up with that? I fell in

(06:52):
love with it when I first heard it. I'm like, yeah,
so what was going on your mind to come up
with the name of the track and the melody, the music,
the smoothness.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Well, first, let me congratulate you forgetting the title right,
because people have been saying global warming, which you know
totally understand. Oh, so kudos for that. But yeah, I
think that the release of a message title as such

(07:28):
is very timely. Uh, when you look around and as
the lyrics say at the very beginning, open your eyes.
So if you're if you're looking around and you're opening
your eyes and you're seeing what's going on, and you're
doing your research, et cetera, et cetera, you can plainly
see that thing. Things are not as they were.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
When I first heard that track and it first came
on and says open your eyes, oh like yeah, yeah, yeah,
I sure have been opened my eyes.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Exact right, right, and uh and and while I'm on
the topic, our hearts go out of course to anybody
and everybody who have been affected by some of the
more serious weather patterns that we've been seeing, you know,
our hearts and minds and prayers.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
The tornadoes and the flooding. It's just ridiculous. And I'm like,
who is manipulating the weather? What is going on here?
So you know, all we can do is pray that
everyone stay safe and look for the warnings and uh

(08:46):
the weather man, and we have to get into preparation,
building more homes that can withstand the wind, building uh,
homes off river banks and near rivers and near oceans,
and build homes that is sustainable where there won't be

(09:10):
wreckage coming from flooding. Or there should be more warnings,
there should be more preparation. I'm gonna tell you.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
That, that's right. And you know, our scientists and alert
people are unfortunately having to you know, yeah, operate with
fewer staff, yeah, and fewer resources and so forth. So
it kind of makes it even more important.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
Mm hmm, because you didn't realize how important the science,
science scientific behind the weather, and all the federal workers
just all behind it and warning us and the work
they have to do. And now the staff been cut,
federal funding has been cut, and a lot of people

(09:58):
have been fired in thosemusicians and now we're just out
here running around naked. We have to find for ourselves.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Well that's right, and you know, not to get off
too far on a weather tangent here. But the last
time I looked, there were like three or four tropical
storms brewing. Yeah yeah, down in the Atlantic right now,
and they all look like they're heading straight for us,
you know kind of things. So we have to keep
our eyes open. So hopefully the music will be a reminder.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
Yeah, open your eyes.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Exactly, Goles.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Yeah. So for persons that are tuning in and listening
and don't know much about Mike Murray, uh, now he
stands as a multifested recording artist, composer, musician, producer and
the smooth jazz and chill out genres. Now. Maray's musical

(11:01):
horizons were greatly expanded by the influence of icons like
George but George Duke, Stanley Clark for playing Santana, Hiroshima,
Paul Paul Harcastle, and Alex funkin Earth Winding Fire, and
slice Stone. It was just all that is just like

(11:22):
chicken noodle soup, all of them. I love them all.
I guess that's why I like you so much. Mike Murray.
I love your music because I can I can get
a taste of it some of those artists in there,
and I'm like, oh wow, it's just amazing.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Well that's that's that's just awesome. And uh, those are
very kind words, and I do appreciate them. I do
hear from people from time to time who flatter me,
you know, greatly with their commentary about sounding similar to
those awesome legendary artists. It's very humbling and very much

(12:04):
appreciated and very very very encouraging gives you, you know,
momentum and inspiration to keep moving forward.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
Yes, please keep your music moving forward, Mike, and right,
I love your style. I love your cool jazz. I
want to keep my ears and keep my eyes open
on your new music.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Well, thank you, I certainly will. I will keep I
will be working towards getting new stuff out. In fact,
I'm hoping to have something back out maybe within the
next month or five weeks or so. All right, part
of Part five of the Seven Stories.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Oh Okay, So let's get into seven stories. Cuz when
I've seen it, headiness a seventh story? Why has the
seven stories? Number seven? Is guy's numbers? Number seven? Is
that post to main something? Right?

Speaker 2 (13:09):
I don't think there's anything significant to the number seven
with that. Uh, we worked on uh. And I'm going
to mention that some of the concept behind seven stories
goes to my better half's she works hard on the
marketing side of things, and her idea about this release.

(13:33):
Releasing something new every seven months is new for me,
and you know, versus releasing you know, the traditional CD
or EP. So I was excited about it and decided, yeah,
let's try that and see how that goes. And then
next thing, I knew there was a whole narrative around
it which brought, you know, gave it life. And so

(13:56):
I'm excited. I'm excited about it, and I think our
listeners are.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, So seven stories, seven stories? So
can you give me more details about seven stories?

Speaker 1 (14:16):
So?

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Yeah. The other part to the to the seventh story,
uh saga if you will, is this. Uh. There was
a track I released I No.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
No.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Seven six seven months ago called you.

Speaker 6 (14:30):
Do you Yeah, and you.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Do You was a single, and the idea behind that
title is as it sounds, and by the way, that
spelling is the e w E e w E d
O space e w E with a picture of the
U on the cover and anyway that you on the

(14:55):
cover is the only one that stands out from the others. Okay,
And with the message being okay, I'm going to start
doing the kinds of things that may not stick to
the traditional.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
Jazz mold.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Yeah, a lot of people are used to my style already,
And don't get me wrong, I don't want to really
venture a far away from the you know, my traditional mold.
But I decided to do this idea about creating things
for the seven stories that vary within the within different genres. Somewhat, yes,

(15:44):
and so I think so far those who have been
following and listening probably will agree that, you know, I'm
I'm experimenting a little bit, and that's a little bit
about what this is about. But overall and above, it's
about having the freedom to be as expressive as a
unique as I possibly can.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
You do jazz differently, yeah, and I love different. Yeah,
I love different. I love different. I can catch it
quickly because I know where it's coming from.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
So it's a little different, thank you.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
Yeah, So I'm gonna give ourselves a little break for
a minute and play some music. Here is you do you?
You staying at hot seat right there, Mike.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
We'll be right back already.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
Let you.

Speaker 7 (18:15):
Think about standardistan nothing it m.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
A m.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
My m.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
Yes, that is you do You? That is on the
album with along with Global Warming and The Seven Stories
Mike Murray Music. Everyone can, Mike, you give your website
information please, all the information where your music can be

(22:13):
located in stream right.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Ahead, okay, sure, well, and I'm typing it in as well,
so it's www dot Mike Murray Music, all one word
dot com.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
All right, all right, all right, and thank you for
that information. So you're already told us earlier part in
this show that you have some more new projects that's
coming up. Can you mention that again for those that's
just falling falling through?

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Yeah, so the release number five which is coming out
and as a matter of fact, I was just doing
some checking with that today mm hmm, some sort of

(23:07):
last minute touch up kind of stuff and it is
called hold on, I'll tell you, oh you tell us?
Oh boy, Well, the title, the title. The title is
Next Level and you can see the cover for that

(23:28):
release on the website under the Seven Stories. Tap.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
Okay, I must have missed.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
That and the description. Yeah it's there.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
Okay, Well, thank you for that information.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Wow wow, Oh you're welcome.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
I will have to go back to your website and
see what I have been missing.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Well, that's gonna be a foot stomper, I believe. I
think it's high time for the Seven Stories. All right,
get the feet stomp and a little bit there they are, right.

Speaker 6 (24:00):
All right?

Speaker 4 (24:02):
So I will be playing some other of the other
songs that I have listed. Uh Downtown, Oh yeah, Rendezvous,
the City that Never Sleeps?

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Right?

Speaker 4 (24:24):
And uh Solomari? Am I pronouncing that correct?

Speaker 2 (24:28):
I'm gonna give you that, yes.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
Okay, and uh, of course I will play down. I
mean I will play global Warming and you do you
again all at the end of the show. Now, Rendezvous,
what made you? What inspired you to do Rendezvue? What's
the story behind the music that's included with the City

(24:54):
That Never Sleeps? Downtown and so and Solomari?

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, so Rendezvous is from the Love Language CD, and
the Love Language CD was a collaboration effort between my
now wife Nicole and I. And what's interesting about that
release is we did it together while separated geographically over
many miles due to the pandemic, and so rendezvous. We

(25:27):
had these quote unquote rendezvous during that period, off and
on while we could. When we hit a point where
we couldn't even travel, it was so it had got
things had gotten so bad. So you know that that
title and that feel and some of the elements from

(25:50):
that track definitely characterized the thought, feel and sentiment of
what was going on during that time.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
Okay, yeah, would you say what you too? Experience is
good for relationships that are distant apart.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Absolutely. In fact, I can tell you that that entire
CD was born out of forced separation. And you know
a lot of people have been in long distance relationships
before and they know what that's like, and so yeah,
I can tell you that entire project was born out
of that concept and that experience.

Speaker 4 (26:34):
Okay, okay, Well, thank you for putting that in there. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay,
give you what you need. What's the story behind that track?

Speaker 2 (26:50):
Well, you know, I'm going to tell you something now, Okay,
If you put those two titles together, it does kind
of start raising an eyebrow here there. Yeah, And there
is a bit of a relationship between stories. In fact,
I'll give You What You Need is sort of meant

(27:11):
to be a offshoot of the Rendezvous story, and it's
meant to be a little you know, a little bit
romantic of course, and a little bit suggestive, but it is.
It is one of the tracks that I dabbled in
a little bit more. I dabbled in a little bit

(27:34):
more lyrically, as you can tell from the y. Yes. Yeah,
we kind of joke about We joke about that title.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
Now, the City that Never sleeps in Downtown.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Yeah, so downtown downtown is it gives you that downtown
any pick pick any city vibe. Many of us remember,
and there's a there's a male vocals on that particular track,
and so many of us, but females will also remember
when we were young and what it was like to

(28:16):
jump in the car or whatever and go go quote
unquote downtown and experience club life or you know, dinneral
life or a restaurant life, whatever. And so the lyrics
on the track refer to experiencing time with the ladies

(28:38):
and getting together with the with the boys quote unquote
and hanging out just having a good time.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
When I heard that track, I can put a smile
on my face. It gave me some memories.

Speaker 6 (28:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
Yeah, the melody and all that. I'm like, oh, wow, Mike,
you did that well.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
And I hope it did. I hope it did take
some peace people back because it did.

Speaker 6 (29:02):
It got me.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
Yes, it did.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yes, that's great when music can do that.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
Yeah, it is good.

Speaker 6 (29:08):
It is good.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
That's one reason why a lot of us have talents
and skills. And music is magic and it makes you
wonder why God puts that in us to love music
and create music. And you know, it's very powerful that
music can make you feel a certain way and it

(29:31):
brings back memories everything with music, you know. And I
really appreciate you, Mike, I really do.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
Oh, thank you so much. I appreciate all of you.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Now at this time, you're more than welcome to give
some shout outs to all the support from persons. You
want to mention their names, persons that have supported you
in the producing of the album, are just persons in general.
I love you, and you love them. You want to
give them a shout out. Go ahead, Mike, Well.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
I'll tell you this, that's a that's a big list
at this point. You know, I've been in this since.

Speaker 6 (30:10):
We got time.

Speaker 4 (30:12):
We got time. Well, you don't have to remember everyone's name,
just do the best you can. A lot of people
like the shoutouts. That's why I continue it on my show.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Yeah. So the first shout out goes to the to
God and the Lord Creator And because I personally believe
I'm a man of of faith, enough of the mustard
seed's worth and a little more, Yes, And I do

(30:47):
believe that the gift I've been given is a gift
from God.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
And that's not to brag or anything. You know, I'm
not Pincy Jones. But enough people have indicated that they
enjoy what I'm doing. And I've gotten a lot of
really good feedback from people and how it makes their day,
or it brought them they made them feel better, or
you've got them on a on a road trip through

(31:13):
a trip successfully, you know, And those are the things
I kind of live for. But next to God and Creator,
kudos goes to my wife Nicole, because she's the one
who basically, uh after marrying an artist, had to realize
the hard truth about UH an artist being behind the

(31:37):
keyboard and the computer screen all the time doing music
related work, and so she just had to sack. She's
had to make that sacrifice, and she does it well,
and she does it consistently, and she's very, very supportive.
So those are the first two. And after that, I

(32:03):
want to call out Mark Stanley from the Soundtracks radio
show because in two thousand and seven, when I was
first starting down this road, Mark Stanley was the first
radio operator to give me a shot at having my
music played online, and he's still a supporter to this day.

(32:24):
So shouts out to Mark Stanley. He's not on social
media that much, but his show is still out there.
So in general from there, because I don't want to
leave anybody else out. All of the various radio operators
who are playing the music and spinning it, you know,

(32:44):
from all different parts of the world, and if they
hear this, they'll know who they are, and they are
so appreciated and they're listeners. So that's the next thing.
And then I should mention my father, as if it
wasn't for my father, I probably would have never gotten
into this in the first place. There's a story behind

(33:06):
that too, And if if your listeners want to go
to my website and look under the bio, there's a
short movie there that kind of talks about how that
piece fits.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
Okay, okay, so I'm.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Very very happy about that. My mom, who put the
first acoustic guitar in my hands, you know, give her
a shout out of course. Of course without her, I
wouldn't be here either, right, and let me see here
all of the playlist operators who are out there who

(33:37):
include me on their playlists from time to time. I
appreciate them so much. So there'll probably be somebody else
before the end of the show I'll think of that
I didn't mention. But that's that's pretty much the comprehensive part.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Yes, yes, well I'm gonna say, hey, okay.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Got the applause going, Yes, thank you so much everybody.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Yes, yes, So at this time, you're more than welcome
to give some information that probably wasn't mentioned. You can
mention it right now, and please mention your website information again.
And if you want people to follow you on social media,
on your Facebook or ig account or any social media site,

(34:34):
please mention that too so people can follow up with you.
Go right in Mike.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
All right, all right, Well I did mention the main
website www dot Mike Murray music dot com, and from
there you can branch out pretty much everywhere. My music
is on all the major platforms a digital service provider platforms,

(34:58):
so you can find my music there. And I would
say for social media, I am on all of the
major social media platforms most of them. It's a couple
I'm not on, but you may. You may still find

(35:18):
me there. And the key thing for to find me
because there's a lot of other Mike Murray's out there
who make music. By the way, I believe last time
I looked, I'm the only Mike Murray who does jazz.
So if you put in Mike Murray jazz, you're gonna
you're gonna find me right away.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, And thank you for that information, Mike.
You know, Mike, I would like for you to come
back on my show with the second half continuing on
Seven Stories. You're more than welcome to come back and

(35:56):
talk about that. The sounds you're jazz on the Seven
Stories continuant, and I would like to keep this going. Uh,
you said you're going to be creating music every seven months,
the music every seven months, so the goal.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
The goal was actually once a month, starting once a month. Yeah,
story number one. It's been a little tough holding to
that exactly. Okay, we're pretty much very close on schedule
and what what I plan to do. Uh, once the
seven stories are done, there will be a CD release

(36:37):
or EP whichever fits, which will include all of the tracks.
Oh yeah, so I'm excited about that too.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
Yes, I gotta have I gotta get you back on
the show. Then if you think it's possible for me
to get you, you know, I mean, you're such a
busy man, so I'm gonna be I'm gonna be tagging
behind you, you.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Know that, absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 4 (37:07):
I'm gonna keep tagging on you, you know, and I'll
keep tagging on you to find out, you know, to
keep up with you and see when I can squeeze
you back up in here again.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
I got Yes, I appreciate that offer, and I certainly,
I certainly will look forward to that.

Speaker 4 (37:26):
And uh, global warming Global got me? Saying global warming
Global got me? Global Warning is my number one favorite track.

Speaker 5 (37:37):
On their's awesome.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
Open your Eyes and it's so current. It's such an
exact melody and to what's going on currently around the world,
not just here in the United States, but around the world,
and people open your eyes and listen into Mike Murray music. Everyone,

(38:03):
Mike Murray music. Any words of encouragement you would like
to give Mike, as we sign off on planning all
your music here.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
Well, thank you for that opportunity. These are difficult and
troubling and challenging times for everybody. It's an honor for
me to be able to do or provide my art
to the planet so that you know, if it makes

(38:36):
life a little easier for somebody, there's great reward in
that for me, and it's truly an honor to be
able to do that. I appreciate everybody's feedback, and I
would ask that you continue to provide as much feedback
as you can, because that's like gasoline, high test gasoline

(38:57):
for me, right right, So I won't stop. I'll keep
going as long as I can physically and emotionally and
mentally be able to, and as long as there's listeners.
So thank you, thank you, thank.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
You again, all right, Mike, and thank you for those
encouraging words, and you're encouraging music. I would like to
come back on my show in the future, and I
want to thank everyone for tuning in. I see all
of y'all and thank you all, and I'm gonna sign out.
Thank you Mike Murray. You have a blessed rest of

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
