In this special episode of Love and Murder, we pause thenormal cases of passion and peril to focus on the most crucial narrative of all—your well-being. Join me, Ky, in a gentle detour from our usual true crime explorations, as we embark on a journey inward with a much-needed mental health check-in.

Last week's cases of suicide may have left a lingering shadow, a weight that we carry as we immerse ourselves in the darker chapters of humanity. Today, I'm reaching out, not with another harrowing tale, but with an open heart and a caring question: How are you doing? Truly?

It's okay to feel overwhelmed, frightened, or even detached. It's natural when facing the narratives we share, or the storms you weather in your own life. But remember, you're not alone in this. If the burden feels too heavy, I'm here to remind you that there's strength in seeking support—be it from friends, family, or professionals.

Together, let's take a moment of respite. Close your eyes and join me in a simple, yet profound breathing exercise designed to soothe your spirit and ease your mind. With each inhalation, envision tranquility reaching every corner of your being, and with each exhalation, release the weight that's been holding you down.

As we conclude this episode, keep in mind that it's perfectly okay to step back and nurture your mental health. The world of true crime can wait; your peace cannot. And if you find yourself in crisis, remember help is just a call or text away at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or text "STRENGTH" to 741741.

Take care, dear listener. You are valued, you are significant, and you are loved. Until we meet again, remember to embrace self-care and keep the mantra close to your heart: All love and no murder, y'all.

(00:00):
Good morning, LaMs.

(00:01):
It's Ky here from Love and Murder Podcast.
Today, we're going off our path a little bit
but instead of going down our usual path
on Sundays of true crime,
I wanna look at another crime
and that's the crime of not sitting
and taking five minutes for ourselves.

(00:22):
I feel like this episode is a much needed mental health check-in.
So, before we dive in,
I want you to find a comfortable spot.
If it's safe to do so,
maybe pause whatever you're doing
and just be here with me for the next few minutes.
Now, I know our journey through twists and turns of true crime

(00:52):
can be a rollercoaster of emotion.
Just last week, I know we had a lot of cases of suicide
which brought me to this episode.
And other cases that we do,
some may be heavier than others
and they can weigh on us
and they may stir up feelings

(01:12):
that might be hard to process
and hard for you to deal with alone.
Even though I know you love true crime
and I know you love hearing each episode,
it can start to weigh on you
just like it weighs on me.
So I'm here today,
reaching out through the mic to ask you,

(01:34):
how are you doing really?
Now, this is something that I had to learn
and I'm going to tell you too.
It's okay if you're not okay.
It's completely okay to feel overwhelmed,

(01:58):
to feel scared or even sometimes to feel numb.
These are perfectly normal reactions
to the cases that I share sometimes
or even to what's going on in your life.
But remember, my dear LaM, you're not alone.

(02:19):
If the weight becomes too much for you,
I really, truly, wholeheartedly encourage you
to talk to someone, talk to a friend,
talk to a family member,
or even talk to a therapist, someone who can help you
carry that loan.

(02:41):
And hey, if you feel like you're out of options,
reach out to me.
My inbox is always open.
Now let's all stop for a minute.
Let's take this moment together,
a moment to breathe, to reconnect with ourselves.

(03:03):
And I'm going to guide you
through a brief breathing exercise that I do for myself.
It's simple, but it's powerful.
So let's do it together.
Are you ready?
(soft music)

(03:24):
All right, close your eyes if you can.
Take a deep breath in through your nose,
slowly filling your lungs completely.
As you do this, imagine the air swirling down
reaching every part of your body.

(03:44):
Feel it in your fingers.
Feel it in your toes.
Feel it even in the tips of your ears.
Now let's go ahead and hold it for a moment.
And exhale through your mouth.

(04:06):
Gently release in all of the tension,
all of the heavy thoughts,
let it flow out with your breath.
(soft music)
Now let's do this two more times.
Inhale through your nose, slowly filling your lungs completely.

(04:31):
As you're inhaling, imagine the air swirling down,
down through your chest, down to your stomach,
down your back.
Feel it in the medium part of your body.
Now hold it for a moment.

(04:53):
And exhale through your mouth.
We're releasing all of that tension,
all of the heaviness, all of the negativity.
Let it go with this breath.
And we're gonna do it one more time.

(05:16):
This time we're taking it all the way from the top
to the tips of your toes.
All right, take a deep breath in through your nose.
Slowly, filling your lungs completely.
Imagine the air swirling down, down your legs.

(05:38):
Feel it in your thighs.
Feel it in your knees and even feel it
in the tips of your toes.
Now let's hold this for a moment.
And exhale through your mouth.

(06:01):
As you exhale this last breath from our breathing exercise,
make sure you're letting go of the last bit of sadness,
the last bit of heaviness,
the last bit of overwhelm that you've been holding
for this entire week.
Let it out with this breath.

(06:22):
And how do you feel?
I hope you feel a bit lighter.
Remember this exercise is here for you.
Anytime you need a moment of peace amidst the chaos
that life can be.
(soft music)
As we wrap up, I wanna remind you

(06:47):
that it's okay to seek help,
to talk about how you really feel
and to take a break when the world feels
a bit too heavy for you.
If the true crime is a little bit too much for you,
you can always come back to it when you're ready.

(07:07):
I'll still be here.
But your wellbeing, your mental health,
that is the real priority.
And I wanna remind you that if you are struggling
with suicidal thoughts,
or if you're experiencing a mental health crisis,

(07:30):
you can call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline
anytime as it's open 24/7.
At 1-800-273-8255-1800-273-8255,
or go to thesuicideproventionlyfline.org,

(07:55):
or you can text "strength" to the crisis text line
at 7-4-1-7-4-1.
I want you to take care of yourself,
and I want you to know that you're important and you matter.

(08:17):
Until next time, stay safe.
Remember that it's okay to not be okay,
and also remember all love and no murder y'all.
