Speaker 1 (00:05):
Over the river and through the woods.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
We go the horses away to carry this life through
the wind, over the river and through the woods.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
All these things, the toes and bites, the noses over
the ground. Andrew Bood can come right into your smartphone
or your laptop or your tablets or however you choose
to get him. Oh yeah, I know. He's the powerful
attorney from East Lansing and the legacy of attorneys and
his family. But he's also a podcaster and it's called

(00:38):
the A List Hour. That's what you do wherever you
get your podcasts. If you put in the A List
Hour Andrew Bood, you will find the people that he's
been interviewing so far. You can watch it, you can
listen to it, however you choose to consume it. And
he's on our radio stage right now. We have not
sworn you in counselor so you can tell stories are

(01:00):
true or not true if you wish. But your whole
idea of getting people in front of you on camera
and on the microphone is to get them to open
up and sometimes tell how they became. For instance, Curtis
Rtel or whomever you might be interviewing, including yourself true.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
That's true. A lot of people have you know, come
to lancing and made lancing their career, whether it's you know,
out Lancing or East Lancing, and many of them have
very interesting stories. And so, I mean that's sort of
one of the overriding themes of the podcast.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
What have you learned in the time you've been doing
these podcasts about being an interview versus being somebody who
questions or cross examines a witness.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Now, one thing for certain is that there is a
certain of drive and planning and intention, but a lot
of people's success is often a matter of chance or circumstance,
and you know, an opportunity is presented in front of them,
and you know they never thought that it would be

(02:17):
turned into a career, and the next thing you know,
they've done it for thirty or forty years, including by example,
Tim Stout and Sherry Jones. I'm sure you know both
of them very well.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
I'm going to play a couple of clips for you
here that have to do with the interviewing process the
hosting of a radio show, which is essentially what you're
doing in these conversations. They're kind of intimate and personal
conversations as you get people to open up. Let's begin
with Larry King, who was on radio before he was
on television, but like you would sit across the table,

(02:54):
across the microphone from his guests. Here's what he said
about hosting a radio show slash podcast.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
The good interviewer must listen. Too many interviewers interview themselves.
The key to to a good interviewing style is short questions.
Leave yourself out of it. I has no place in
an interview. There's no place. It's irrelevant. The guest counts
your reaction.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
I mean, I think that's I think that's I mean simple, simple,
simple questions and open and broad in the whole of
the interviewer. Now, as you know, not every interviewer you
know will take the ball and run with it, and
so sometimes you've got to have follow up. But I
also think once in a while, I mean, if you

(03:40):
look at some of the great podcasters, you know, it
helps the interview process if the interviewer can relate. And
so a little bit of I is okay. I think
you see that, whether you like him or not. Politically
with Rogan, who seems to you know, tells tell us

(04:04):
something about himself in the manner in which he interviews guests.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Sometimes he talks more than the guests, seems like, and
he goes, yeah, he.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Does, he does well. I mean, he thinks this show
is talking to me. You learn a lot about the
guests because I think Rogan opens up and therefore the
whole guest opens up, you know, and it's sort of
a gets a very relaxed format.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
How he goes three hours? How long are your the
A list hour podcasts.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Usually just over an hour someplace around an hour hour
or so, which sometimes isn't enough depending on the guests.
But he kind of sort of be organized and kind
of grind through it all.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Let's listen now to Kate Blanchett, who was in the
movie Tar and said this about questions and answers.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
He's not pretending he's certain about anything.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
Because he knows that it's always the question that involves
the listener's every answer.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Right now, the big question for you is what do
you think?

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Not certain about anything? And knows that it's the question
that brings the listener in, not the answer.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
I mean, the question is often interesting and with great
examinations that I've seen in court before. You know, the
lawyer often when you're listening as an observer, you often
want to say, yeah, I want to know the answer
to that question, and you know, and then you think

(05:50):
you've got to figure it out, and then the lawyer
asks another question, goes, well, wait a minute, I want
to know the answer to that question, and then you know,
and so you know to the extent that you could
compare this to what's happening in a courtroom, I mean,
in making it interesting. You know that, to me is

(06:10):
the epitome of a great host is a listener who says, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Wait a minute, I want to know the answer to
that question.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
It's called the A list Hour podcast by Andrew Bood.
Wherever you get your podcasts, you can get them from
Spotlight Media Studios as well. Here's former governor George Romney
speaking to JP McCarthy.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
The reason you're so popular so influentially is that you're
serving others by making them better known and more influential.
And you don't bait them, and you don't belittle emland
and you help them to put their best foot forward,
and that's a great thing.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Are you throwing out any banana peels for your guests
to slip on Andrew boot in the A List hour, Well.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
You know he's going out too. And I'm not aware
of any moments where anybody has been embarrassed. And we
often ask almost all of our guests, we ask is
there anything in there you want us to cut out
into a tea? There's nobody that suggested that any moments

(07:17):
has crossed the line or embarrassed thumb or anybody else.
So I mean it's really about them and making them
look good and getting allowed people to you know, know that.
You know, you may be walking around Lancing and you
may not feel like it's a special place, but there's
a lot of special people who have been not only

(07:38):
successful but lived very interesting lies.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Do you ever feel as if your guests are nervous?

Speaker 4 (07:48):
I think, I mean, if they are, then shame on me.
I have not got that feeling, but I think may
be surprised, maybe a little surprise that not only did
we cover an whole hour talking about them, but maybe
I've seen him get a little emotional, even Mike Nichols

(08:12):
got a little choked up. And you know when they're
talking about their own moments in life, and you know,
as a post you want to not only show actually
what somebody's life is about. But maybe they're emotional side.
So if you can get them to show a little emotion,

(08:34):
it seems to be a better interview.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
The A List Hour with Andrew a boot available wherever
your podcasts are. And he just gave you a teaser
right there. Why did Mike Nichols get emotional? Listen and
find out and we will too, and we'll be playing
clips on this program every day from The A List
Hour with Andrew Aboot, It's Michael Patrick Shields. Have you

(09:00):
ever wondered why health insurance costs seem to keep going up?
I was doing some research online and I stumbled upon
some surprising information on Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's
websitemibluedaily dot com slash affordability. I was surprised to learn
that the cost Blue Cross pays for prescription drugs rose
by a staggering fifteen percent last year. Fifteen percent. That's

(09:22):
five times higher than inflation. It's no wonder healthcare costs
or a concern for so many of us. That's why
Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Michigan is working hard to
help all of us better understand the factors driving up
healthcare costs and sharing what they are doing. Is a
business to address it. Because Blue Cross knows that healthcare
is personal, it needs to work for everyone, and affordability matters.

(09:44):
So I encourage you to take a minute and check
Outmi blue Daily dot com slash affordability and get informed.
You'll be glad you did. It's eye opening information that
can help everyone better understand the complexities of the healthcare
system and its impact on your health insurance costs.
