Speaker 1 (00:04):
Live across the Great Lake State. You're connected to Michigan's
most engaging and influential radio and television program, Michigan's Big
Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, presented by Blue Cross, Blue
Shield Michigan and Blue Care Network.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Now in the shadow of the Capitol Dome and lancing.
He's heard from the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the
halls of power and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael
Patrick Shields.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
I noticed you were alone at the party.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Oh you notice that?

Speaker 5 (00:39):
Are you dating?

Speaker 6 (00:40):
No?

Speaker 4 (00:41):
No, why not?

Speaker 7 (00:44):
You know what data is an experience you have with
another person that makes you.

Speaker 8 (00:47):
Appreciate being alone?

Speaker 5 (00:48):
Lol.

Speaker 9 (00:50):
Lol.

Speaker 8 (00:53):
You like saying that, Tanya.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
It's cute, right, No, none, really.

Speaker 10 (00:58):
Michael Patrick Shields is on the air.

Speaker 11 (01:01):
Good morning, world, and a happy Thanksgiving to you. This
might be the best week of the year.

Speaker 6 (01:10):
Over the river and through.

Speaker 11 (01:14):
It's such a giant mishmash of fun and it kind
of you know, when you think about it, You're going
to travel somewhere possibly and you don't have to take
presents or gifts. There's none of that stress it's just
being grateful.

Speaker 6 (01:27):
And maybe you're going.

Speaker 11 (01:28):
Over the river and through the woods, maybe you're flying
through the air, maybe you're driving somewhere, maybe you're going
by train, maybe you're just driving across town. But usually
it involves food, and usually it involves football, and.

Speaker 6 (01:42):
Well what could be better than that?

Speaker 11 (01:43):
And sometimes there's some boujeole nouveaux or some booze or
some wine involved.

Speaker 6 (01:49):
Usually there's a family fight.

Speaker 11 (01:52):
I wonder, oh a scent of a woman. That was
the best Thanksgiving scene of all, wasn't it? Where al
Pacino goes to the they hat in a big fight.
That's like a realistic Thanksgiving dinner. But here's the thing.
We start Wednesday night with what they now call Friendsgiving,
and that is if you've traveled home somewhere, you know,
usually on Wednesday night.

Speaker 6 (02:13):
You're like, let's go out before we have to be with.

Speaker 11 (02:15):
The families, and you visit old friends. It's like a
class reunion every year because you're in town.

Speaker 6 (02:21):
Hey, I'm in town.

Speaker 11 (02:23):
Let's go get a drink and have some laughs. And
so that's kind of to me how it all starts.
Then comes Thanksgiving mornings. Some people have gone to the
turkey trot and their various towns, walking, running, whatever it
might be, you know, to get some steps in before
the feast. And then some people, of course, I'll go
to the Lions game, and some people will watch the

(02:44):
Lions game on TV. Often wonder how many people have
the tradition of dinner at halftime of the Lions game
or after the Lion's game, because it starts a little afternoon,
so that would put your dinner right at about three o'clock.
Not bad, and so you say, wow, that's pretty good.
And now they have football all day long because the

(03:04):
Cowboys will come after that, and then they put a
night game on Thanksgiving, so you really don't have to
have any plans other than football and turkey and stuffing
and all the rest of it. And of course people
used to go to the movies on Thanksgiving too.

Speaker 6 (03:17):
A lot.

Speaker 11 (03:18):
They would put movies out on Thanksgiving because once you're
done with dinner and all that, you look at each
other and say, should we have a family poker game
or should we go to the movies. They go to
the movies, and then they wake up early for Black Friday,
another holiday where you go shopping for the doorbusters and
you know, sometimes people are off work and so they'll

(03:39):
go and have you know, right there. As soon as
the Meyer store opens up, it's Christmas in there. It's
like magical and all the prices are low, and you
spend half the day shopping and then you stop for
lunch somewhere and some drinks. And usually I remember that
day as always being the Texas Texas A and M games,
because the football doesn't stop and there are lots of

(04:02):
rivalry games. I think, am I not mistaken that Indiana
undefeated is playing Perdue on Friday night? You know, things
like that random stuff. So you got that old shopping
day Friday, and you say, wow, you've had like three
holidays in a row. Now what do we do now? Well,
then you have Saturday, Michigan versus Ohio State at twelve fifteen.

Speaker 6 (04:25):
You have to wake up.

Speaker 11 (04:26):
You don't even have to wait too long, and that.

Speaker 6 (04:28):
Feast of the eyes is right before you.

Speaker 11 (04:30):
Because only once a year do you get to see
the Maze and Blue and the scarlet and gray together
on the same field and that rivalry game, and it's
just stirring the heart. And then you know, that's that's
what your weekend is. Now as I understand it too,
and a night game in Detroit. If you want, you
can go see the Spartans play Maryland and for they'll

(04:53):
let you walk in the door virtually for free because
ticket sales aren't so hot. But you know, it makes sense,
does it not? Tony Cuthbert. Since East Lansings campus at
Michigan State University, young people are gone away for Thanksgiving,
many of them are, and having the game on campus

(05:14):
versus the Michigan o House State game. It's been done
in the past, but Thanksgiving weekend, if the game's gonna
fall on that day, I see the logic of having
it in Detroit, don't you?

Speaker 5 (05:23):
I do?

Speaker 6 (05:23):
Kind of.

Speaker 12 (05:24):
I've always been conflicted with it because, as we know
down the street, they have no problem selling out the
game at Michigan Stadium. So if you want to do
the outreach in the city of Detroit and try to
get more people there, Hey, for Michigan State, they might
as well treat it like a bowl game because this
is all they get.

Speaker 11 (05:38):
But ann Arbor is much closer to Detroit, more of
a Detroit.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
Kind of place. I don't know, you know, what are
you gonna do?

Speaker 11 (05:45):
But so that's it and then your weekend Sunday you
can have some more NFL.

Speaker 6 (05:51):
But that all sounds just so good.

Speaker 11 (05:53):
And nobody said it better than the Voice of Sunday.
It was Pat summer Ale and John Madden. And John
Madden is now relegated to a video game, but he
was a football coach for the Raiders and a color commentator,
and he just evoked and oozed football and whyatt's a

(06:15):
national pastime and why it's a holiday along with Pat
summer All when they called CBS football, this is great.

Speaker 13 (06:21):
You know, there's some things in life to just fit.
And I think when you talk about football, Thanksgiving, traditional
rivalries and be in there, that's a good fit.

Speaker 6 (06:32):
Happy Thanksgeving to you.

Speaker 13 (06:33):
And happy Thanksgiving to you in twenty great years and
we have it all again today. We have turkey legs,
we have turkey, we have traduction, and we have the
biggest thing, the tradition of Thanksgiving and football. Some things
just go together greatly, they should do, and to me,
there's nothing better. There's no place that I would rather
be today on Thanksgiving than right here, right now at

(06:53):
a football game. And there's just certain things that go together,
you know. The turkey, the family, the tradition football, and
we have it all today.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
Such a good sense of humor. He had too.

Speaker 11 (07:06):
And on Thanksgiving they would give away the Madden Award
and it would be a turkey leg right on the
same NFL player like a like a Viking holding.

Speaker 6 (07:14):
Up a turkey leg.

Speaker 11 (07:15):
And if you remember the Lions games over the years,
they always had some level of humor or drama on
Thanksgiving and they.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
Will it will again.

Speaker 11 (07:25):
It's good we have a traditional game, the Green Bay
Packers coming.

Speaker 6 (07:30):
To Ford Field.

Speaker 11 (07:32):
Okay, we're gonna visit with some friends. We're gonna revisit
with some holiday traditions. JP McCarthy always had the michigan
O House State Tailgate show on his radio program when
I was this producer, and long before that when I
was a kid, and I used to, you know, stay
home from school on that Friday before the michigan O
House State game just to listen to that broadcast with

(07:54):
Bob Youufer and Bo Schembeckler and all the other people
who would call in, Ron Kramer and Fat Bob Taylor
and all the rest of them. So we will continue
to carry the torch for this program and also celebrate
Thanksgiving in the sort of sardonic.

Speaker 6 (08:11):
Special way that we do.

Speaker 11 (08:14):
Thank you for being with us through this holiday period.
The best of the year probably second to Saint Patrick's

things you want most, more local produce, more home decor,

(08:36):
in this morning from Dusty Cellar. He's already putting the
turkeys in the oven for those who will pick up
carry out Thanksgiving at Dustysellar dot com.

Speaker 5 (08:47):

Thank you, we went up at a phrase and we

(12:20):
a variety of dishes, including flatbreads, chicken tenders, and nachos.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
That's entertainment. I'm Jacqueline carl.

Speaker 17 (12:46):
There. I compare Middleton in the Buckeye and they're tearing
down Michigan. Some of the damp toop banner. They will
me that bastardly playing here for that. There is no
Michigan mat who wouldn't like to watch and shout those
buck guys right now. They have the opacity they unmitigated.
Now put tear down the covering of M. But Michigan's

(13:10):
going to run out.

Speaker 6 (13:11):
For under put the men.

Speaker 18 (13:13):
The M men.

Speaker 17 (13:14):
Will prevail because they're getting the banner back up against.

Speaker 6 (13:18):
Ben Here my club a mas.

Speaker 17 (13:20):
Long they got away a hundreds and five thousand vans.

Speaker 11 (13:26):
There was always such fun like the Buckeyes tearing down
the M club banner before the game and Woody Hayes
tearing up the yard markers. Yeah, he was so upset
about one of the calls that he tore apart the
first down marker right on the sideline. And of course
he goes back and forth. The Buckeyes had their moments

(13:47):
and the Wolverines had their moments. I think Desmond Howard
probably had one of the best moments of all when
versus Ohio State, when he was in the contention for
the Heisman Trophy. He returned upon that sealed the game
against the Buckeyes, and he remembers it like this, I stepped.

Speaker 6 (14:05):
Back and caught the ball on the seven yard line.
I mean the first guy missed.

Speaker 19 (14:12):
I moved to my left, so now I'm running down
the house stay Sideline'm looking at the punter.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
I'm like that, that's just totally unfair. There's no way
hell he's gonna catch me. I'm thinking, should I do it?

Speaker 4 (14:25):
Should not?

Speaker 6 (14:26):
Should I do it? Shout not? And I'm really resting
with myself about this.

Speaker 20 (14:29):
I crossed the goal.

Speaker 6 (14:30):
Oude like, hey, and I did it.

Speaker 11 (14:36):
What he's talking about doing is giving the Heisman pose
in the end zone.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
And what he said is should I do it? Should
I do it?

Speaker 11 (14:45):
And then he said fitt and he did it, and
he did the pose. And of course it was Bob
you For, the great broadcaster who called.

Speaker 6 (14:54):
The Wolverines games.

Speaker 11 (14:55):
He was actually an insurance salesman, but he was one
of the most passionate broadcasters you'd ever heard.

Speaker 6 (15:01):
And he talked about the great upset victory of the
Wolverines on the radio, like.

Speaker 9 (15:06):
This number twenty second nineteen sixty nine, that they came
to Burry, Michigan, all dressed in Mason blue. The words
were said, the prayers were red, and everybody cried. But
when they closed the coffin, there was someone else's side. Well,
they came to burry Michigan, but Michigan wasn't dead, and
when the game was over, it was someone else instead.
Eleven Michigan Wolverines put on the gloves of gray and

(15:27):
as the organ played the victors, they laid Woody Hayes away.

Speaker 11 (15:32):
You know, you could talk about Desmond Howard, and you
could talk about Big Ten football being three yards and
a cloud of dust, but the Wolverines had some of
the most exciting players in the history of the Big Ten,
including Charles Woodson, who also had a great interception return
in the Gray against the Buckeyes.

Speaker 6 (15:50):
And I was lucky enough to be there and see
that too.

Speaker 11 (15:53):
And he had the Rose in his teeth because back then,
if you won the Big Ten, you went to the
Rose Bowl and it was the greatest prize of all.
And of course, if you go back to a Sunday morning,
if you wanted to see the Wolverines highlights, you had
to watch a show called Michigan Replay and it didn't
air until Sunday morning. It was Beau Chambeckler and Larry
Adderley in my era, and if you can believe this,

(16:16):
you know, only two of the games were on TV
every year. The rest you had to listen to Bob
you for on the radio. So I would take my
little transistor radio and duct tape it to the handlebars
of my bike and ride around as a kid on
Saturday listening to those games. And then the next morning,
I want to see what that looked like. You had
to turn on Michigan replay, and you came to find
out back in the day that wherever the Wolverines were

(16:37):
when the game was over, Beau cham Beckler had to
travel to WXYZTV in Southfield, Michigan to tape whatever hour
of the night it was, even if they'd flown back
from somewhere else. That's how you did it back in
the day. And it was pretty grueling. And you know,
ironically and really kind of amazingly, it was Bo who

(16:59):
died at that Channel seven studio giving an interview all
those years later, and it was on the weekend of
the Michigan Ohio state game, if we can believe that.
Here was Larry Adderley also passed away now in a
good friend of mine along with Bo Schambeckler, and they
were not talking about Desmond Howard or Charles Woodson. They
were talking about the amazing wide receiver from Florida, Riviera

(17:22):
Beach who came before that. He wore the number one,
and his name was Anthony Carter.

Speaker 10 (17:26):
The young man had just an outstanding debut in a
Michigan uniform.

Speaker 21 (17:30):
Carter, Yes he did, and you know, a real please
so that I must tell you, we're not really that
much surprised about it, because Anthony is a very talented
football player, and we just hope he can stay healthy
and continue to improve and learn.

Speaker 22 (17:45):
You know, he's got a lot to learn yet.

Speaker 21 (17:46):
And as I told him going into the game, I said,
now we're not going to do a lot of things
with you in this first game, Anthony, because you know.

Speaker 23 (17:53):
You got a lot to learn.

Speaker 6 (17:55):
Yeah, but apparently he didn't listen.

Speaker 24 (18:00):
They don't listen to the coach, but they'd.

Speaker 11 (18:02):
Better and he had some great, great moments. And I
was lucky enough to be around Anthony Carter because he
ended up playing for the Michigan Panthers, which was the
team that played in the Silver Dome, and I was
the ball boy for that team. So when we were
on spring training, I remember down in Arizona.

Speaker 6 (18:20):
For three weeks.

Speaker 11 (18:21):
I was the ball boy and field equipment assistant, and
I remember asking Anthony Carter for an autograph. He said, yeah,
I come to my room tonight. I went there and
he signed anything I wanted him to sign.

Speaker 6 (18:32):
Very very very nice fellow.

Speaker 11 (18:34):
And of course to be around a hero like that,
and then to be around Beau Schembeckler, I was very
lucky too. And to be around JP McCarthy when he
had all of these Michigan Ohio State shows and he
would well, what can I give you?

Speaker 25 (18:51):
Now?

Speaker 11 (18:52):
I'll give you a song that Dick Pertin, who I
also worked for, the Great radio Star in Detroit, used
to play called Liquid eight Ohio State as he got
into the act. Also, it's Michigan versus Ohio States as
the Buckeyes come to ann Arbor and we salute the

(19:12):
great radio tradition from the Michigan Ohio State pregame show.

Speaker 6 (19:28):
It looks just.

Speaker 26 (19:29):
Like theirs, they.

Speaker 9 (19:45):
Say, the girls google to a Suspindames.

Speaker 27 (19:58):
Health officials are racing concerns as the flu is spreading
earlier than usual in some parts of the country. Some
infectious disease specialists have already noted a sharp increase in
flu cases over the past few weeks as a form
of the virus called H three and two subclate k
has set off massive outbreaks in Canada and the UK.
According to the CDC, most of the flu circulating so

(20:21):
far the season in the US is the H three
N two strain, which can cause more hospitalizations and deaths
and older adults. The concerns come as millions of Americans
prepared to travel and to gather for Thanksgiving and other
upcoming holidays. COVID nineteen cases are climbing or likely to
climb in nineteen states, including Texas, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Colorado.

(20:45):
That's according to the CDC, which is recommending COVID shots
for those six months in older using a decision making
approach that weighs personal risk.

Speaker 28 (20:54):
Health update. I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.

Speaker 12 (20:58):
Michigan's Big Shows starring Michael Patrick Shields.

Speaker 11 (21:02):
Do you get many knocks on doors, Matt Hall, Speaker
of the House from candidates for governor who wonder if
you might like to be their running mate?

Speaker 25 (21:09):
No, I don't.

Speaker 22 (21:10):
What I'm trying to do as a Speaker is to
be a resource to all the candidates and to help
them develop their platforms. We've got a lot of changes.
You talked about what the business leaders from Michigan thinks.
We got a lot of work to do. We got
to start early.

Speaker 11 (21:25):
Denny Shields is listening this morning along with Mick Livernoi,
and they're getting ready already for the Michigan Ohio state game,
which they will be watching at the Riverview American Legion.

Speaker 6 (21:35):
And we want to salute them for that.

Speaker 11 (21:38):
And it is, you know, a friends giving when people
get together to feast on a football game like they will.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
And I salute the two of them. Good buddies.

Speaker 11 (21:46):
And you know before Bow and Woody coached against each other,
they were good buddies too, and they remained good buddies
even after that ten year war.

Speaker 6 (21:55):
It was the border war.

Speaker 11 (21:57):
And you know, remember Woody Hayes would never say Michigan again.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
He'd say that team north of the border.

Speaker 11 (22:02):
And there was always the intrigue, if you remember, back
in the day, the Wolverines went to Columbus and at
their hotel the night before the game, somehow the water
stopped working and so they woke up with no water.
And Denny and Mick Livernoi, this sounds like a trick
they would play on each other. Bob you Fir memorialized
it like this, Bob you for again.

Speaker 29 (22:24):
We're down in this stake cit at Columbus, Ohio. You know,
I said at the top of the show that the
day dawned bright and clear. Everything has been perfect except
when we woke up this morning. Would you believe, as
it was in nineteen seventy eight, no water for the
entire Michigan football family in the motel, the same motel,
the same excuse this morning as it was two years ago.
They said, one block north of here, the water main broke.

(22:47):
We had no water, and you can't tell me that
it's just a coincidence that a water main breaks. And
we asked the wakers at the restaurant. I said, if
this happened before. She says, oh, yes, sir, it happened
two years ago, last night, just before you were here before.
I said, doesn't that seem kind of odd that it
would happen both times that Michigan comes down here to
play Oo? She said, are you insinuating sure that this

(23:09):
could be done purposely? I said, you bet, you're cotton
picking life. I could say, it's how bad the water
media department is full of Ohio State grass and somehow
they just shut off the water again this morning. Well,
I want to tell you football bands across the state
of Michigan. They shut off our water at five o'clock
this morning. We're going to shut off their water here
when kickoff comes up in about three or four minutes.

Speaker 11 (23:30):
And not only that, if you were driving back or
down to Columbus from Michigan, you could bet you better
not speed because you're going to get a ticket from
the Ohio State troopers. It's Michigan versus Ohio State tailgate
show in the JP McCarthy tradition with MPs.

Speaker 7 (24:00):
NBC News Radio, I'm Michael Caasner. Attorney General Pam Bondi
says she will appeal after the criminal indictments against New
York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James
Comy were dismissed by a federal judge.

Speaker 30 (24:12):
We'll be taking all available legal action, including an immediate appeal,
to hold Letitia James and James Comy accountable for their
unlawful conduct.

Speaker 7 (24:23):
Both claim the appointment of Lindsay Halligan as the US
Attorney for the Eastern District while was unlawful. Komy was
indicted for allegedly lying to Congress about the Trump Russia investigation,
while James was indicted for mortgage fraud. Bondi said all
available action would be taken. Comy released a video saying
President Trump can't use the Justice Department to target his

(24:45):
political enemies.

Speaker 31 (24:46):
I know that Donald Trump will probably come after me again,
and my attitude is going to be the same. I'm innocent,
i am not afraid, and I believe in an independent
federal judiciary.

Speaker 7 (24:57):
Comy also said the case against him was prosecution based
on malevolence and incompetence. James issued his statement saying she's
heartened by the victory and once again called the charges baseless.
President Trump assigned an executive order that would allow his
administration to designate certain chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as
foreign terrorist organizations. More from Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 32 (25:18):
The order gives direction to Secretary of State Marco Rubio
and Treasury Secretary Scott Presant to figure out if any
chapters should receive the designation. This move would allow for
increased sanctions, as well as more power to disrupt financial support.
A White House factshoot on the order said that the
goal of it was to eliminate the designated chapter's capabilities
and operations, and then to deprive them of resources.

million people are expected to drive to their holiday destination.

Amazon has announcing plans to invest as much as fifty
billion dollars on AI in structure to support US government agencies.
Here's Jim Roup.

Speaker 33 (26:03):
The investment will allow agencies to access Amazon Web Services,
AI tools, Anthropics, Claude family of models, and Nvidia chips,
as well as Amazon's custom Trainium AI chips. The project
is set to break ground in twenty twenty six, and
it's expected to add one point three gigle watts of
capacity across new data centers. The move follows similar announcements

(26:25):
from Anthropic and Meta to expand AI data centers here.

Speaker 32 (26:28):
In the US, President Donald Trump reportedly pausing an executive
order regarding AI regulation. Raiter says the effort to go
a state level AI regulation faced opposition from some Republicans.
Last week, reports spread that Trump was ready to sue
states or cut off federal broadband funding if states like
California regulated AI. A newly released court documents suggests that

Meta halted internal research that showed people became less oppressed
when they stopped using Facebook tech report on Markmeyfield.

Speaker 18 (27:00):
Mm hmmm, h.

Speaker 25 (27:21):

Speaker 11 (27:24):
I secretly love the Buck Eye band and they how
they would do the script Ohio on the field with
the band members and then somebody would get the distinction
of dotting the I. And the song they would play
was a riddle. Can you solve this cute little riddle? Okay,

(28:06):
what's round on the ends and high in the middle Ohio?
And one of the famous Buckeyes in history who once
dotted the eye?

Speaker 6 (28:16):
Meaning the entire band.

Speaker 11 (28:17):
Is out there doing a moving script Ohio on the
field and it's incursive, if you remember cursive.

Speaker 6 (28:24):
Somebody needed to go out there and be the dot
on the eye.

Speaker 11 (28:27):
An individual, and it was usually someonet of distinction.

Speaker 6 (28:31):
In one of the cases.

Speaker 11 (28:32):
It was Jack Nicholas, the great golfer who came from
Ohio state, and he went.

Speaker 6 (28:38):
Out there dotted the eye.

Speaker 11 (28:39):
And we had a number of occasions to interview Jack
Nicholas on this program. And it was a handful of
times or more that I've interviewed him also as a
golf writer, but in this case he was on the air,
and I dared to ask the Great Buckeye this question
when it came to Michigan versus Ohio State.

Speaker 34 (29:00):
Oh, sure, go Blue.

Speaker 18 (29:01):
I always route for Blue.

Speaker 35 (29:02):
I mean I route for Blue.

Speaker 36 (29:04):
Eleven games a year of High States, for eleven games
a year.

Speaker 35 (29:06):
Hopefully you'll both come in undefeated.

Speaker 6 (29:08):
No, that's the spirit, that is den.

Speaker 11 (29:11):
That is the way it was in the year Bosham
Beckler died, they were number one versus number two.

Speaker 6 (29:17):
But I asked Jack.

Speaker 11 (29:18):
If he wouldn't mind saying go Blue, and he was
a good sport about it. And there was another occasion
when we were out in West Michigan broadcasting from American Dunes,
the golf course he redesigned in Saga Tuck and it
was during the pandemic, and I remember we I was
wearing a University of Michigan m Go Blue mask, if
you can believe that, and he had his Buckeye mask on,

(29:41):
and we had a good time laughing about Michigan versus
Ohio State. So we thank the great Midwesterner, the greatest
golfer of all time, Jack Nicholas, and the greatest Buckeye too.
And of course we were talking about his friendship with
Gerald Ford in West Michigan.

Speaker 6 (29:55):
That's how it all came about. That day.

Speaker 11 (29:57):
Of course they had a friendship and rivalry. They would
play at the Bob Hope does her classic and played
Michigan versus Ohio State in that way.

Speaker 6 (30:06):
Bo Schembeckler gave.

Speaker 11 (30:10):
Such a great speech that I incorporated it into one
of my wedding vows. I will never forget adopting a
Bo's strategy for being a team into my strategy for
being a team. And there were some people there to
witness it. Tony Cuthbert and I know Paul Long saw
it too, and some others who saw me incorporate Bo's

(30:32):
speech into the wedding vows there at Saint Thomas.

Speaker 6 (30:35):
But here's that speech.

Speaker 11 (30:36):
That inspired the Wolverines and MPs.

Speaker 37 (30:40):
We want the Big Ten championship and we're gonna win
it as a team. They can throw out all those
great backs and great quarterbacks and great defensive players throughout
the country and in this conference, but there's going to
be one team that's going to play solely as a team.
No man, it's more important than a team, no coach,
It's more important than.

Speaker 7 (31:00):
The team, the team, the team.

Speaker 37 (31:03):
The team. And if we think that way, all of us,
everything that you do, you take into consideration, what effect
does it have on my team? Because you can go
into professional football, you go anywhere you.

Speaker 18 (31:16):
Want to play.

Speaker 37 (31:17):
After you leave here, you will never play for a
team again. You'll play for a contract, you'll play for this,
you'll play for that, You'll play for everything except the team.
And think what a great thing it is to be
a part of something that.

Speaker 31 (31:32):
Is the team.

Speaker 37 (31:35):
We're gonna win it. We'll go win the championship again
because we're gonna play as a team better than anybody
else in this conference. We're gonna play.

Speaker 6 (31:42):
Together as a team.

Speaker 37 (31:43):
We're gonna believe in each other. We're not gonna criticize
each other. We're not gonna talk about each other. We're
gonna encourage each other. And when we play as a team,
when the old season is over, you and I know
it's gonna be Michievan again, Michigan.

Speaker 11 (32:00):
Part that I incorporated. We're gonna believe in each other.
We're not gonna criticize each other. We're not gonna talk
about each other. We're gonna encourage each other. I do,
uh you know what in those vows too. That was
the fourth time I got married. I also incorporated the
inaugural So help me. I put my hand up and

(32:23):
I said, so help me God. And Jason Allen was there,
the former state senator, and he was laughing when I
did that too.

Speaker 6 (32:31):
No, of course I took it seriously, but just trying
to have a little fun, folks.

Speaker 11 (32:35):
Speaking of having leal fun, Tony Cuthbert says he has
a clip really of Jack Nicholas and myself singing the
Ohio State fight song.

Speaker 38 (32:46):
You're very sweet, round on the ads and high in
the middle.

Speaker 6 (32:57):
You can find it on the Baptist You.

Speaker 38 (32:59):
Look high mud, How do you do? Michigan ends hal to
the victors, to the conquering heroes.

Speaker 11 (33:13):
Hey, can you believe that?

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Wow?

Speaker 11 (33:22):
I don't even remember that the greatest golfer in history
and myself singing fight songs together.

Speaker 6 (33:30):
Wow. What a lucky, lucky.

Speaker 11 (33:32):
Blessed man I am. And what tolerant listeners you are.
Pat Suzuki did this version of the Victors, which will
be in your head all day.

Speaker 6 (33:43):
And it was part of the J. P.

Speaker 11 (33:44):
McCarthy tradition on his program to play this version of
Hail to the victors.

Speaker 39 (33:50):
Hey, Hey, Hey to the victors vie, Hey to the

(34:13):
conqring heroes, Hey, Hey, cheer Michigan.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
The leadings, and then.

Speaker 39 (34:33):
Hey to the lecture's value, Hey to the co cream heroes, Hey, Hey,

(34:55):
sheer Michigan the chapel, Oh Witchie and she.

Speaker 37 (35:10):

When it comes to healthcare cost us, we often focus
on one thing, our insurance premiums. But whatever we're only seeing.

Speaker 6 (37:05):
Part of the picture.

Speaker 11 (37:06):
The truth is our health insurance costs reside downstream at
the end of the cost equation. But to really understand
what's driving up costs. We need to look upstream to
the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there are costs like the
price is charged by hospitals and doctors, and the cost
of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology. These costs flow

(37:28):
downstream directly into your health insurance premium. That's why Blue
Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating for a system
wide solution to address the rising cost of healthcare. Blue
Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs to work for everyone,
and affordability matters, and that starts with shedding light on
the entire cost equation from upstream costs to downstream premiums.

In BC News Radio. I'm Mark Mayfield. Today is going
to be one of the busiest days on the roads
for Thanksgiving travelers, according to Triple A. Tomorrow, we'll also
see millions on the roads as well as the Sunday
after Thanksgiving. Health officials are raising concerns as the flu
is spreading earlier than usual in some parts of the country.

Speaker 33 (38:19):
Jim Roop reports some infectious disease specialists have already noted
a sharp increase in flu cases over the past few
weeks as a form of the virus called H three
N two subclate k has set off massive outbreaks in
Canada and the UK. The CDC says the majority of
flu circulating so far this season in the US is
the H three and two strain, which can cause more

(38:41):
hospitalizations and deaths and order adults. The concerns come as
millions of Americans prepared to travel and gather for the
Thanksgiving and other upcoming holidays.

Speaker 32 (38:50):
I'm Jim Roop and President Trump has accepted an invitation
to visit China. Mark Mayfield, NBC News Radio.

Speaker 5 (39:02):
Over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house.

Speaker 42 (39:05):
We go the horses away to carry this life through
the wild and drifting snow over the reverend, through the woods,
all the stings, the toes and bites the noses.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
Over the ground. We go over the reverend grandmother's.

Speaker 11 (39:20):
If you're going over the river and through the woods
to grandmother's house, you might want to stop and pick
up some lottery tickets on the way as a gift,
Maybe some scratchers or instant tickets at places like Meyer
or any of the lottery retailers. Across the state of Michigan.
Admire you get more of the things you want most,
and with the lottery, you could really hit the jackpot.

(39:42):
And every year the school aid fund gets over a
billion dollars because you and I play the Michigan Lottery.
And they have all sorts of fun holiday versions that
you can give away to and stick it in a
you know, holiday card or a Thanksgiving card or put
it in the stuffing and maybe someone will find it
and there I don't really advise you do that, but

(40:03):
you know who knows at that point. We also been
talking a lot about Michigan versus Ohio state. The game
is in ann Arbor, down the street from Ipsilanti, where
Eastern Michigan University is waiting for you, but also in Rochester.
You can learn by doing because three out of four

Speaker 11 (40:34):
We were just in Las Vegas last week for the
Las Vegas Grand Prix. There was a lot of technology
on display there with cars going over two hundred miles
an hour. Kendra Blocker is the lead seat belt engineer
and technical specialist at General Motors GM, and she's on
our radio stage right now when maybe you'll be racing

(40:56):
to your holiday, but doing so cautiously and with the
speed limit in mind, because Triple A is saying seventy
one point seven million Americans are going to be traveling
by car over this long weekend, whether they're going to
their grandmother's house or whether they're going to a football
game like the Lions or the Wolverines or any of
the other ones. Thanksgiving Spartans Downtown Detroit among the deadliest

(41:21):
travel holidays, which is a sad thing to say, but
it's a reminder that is worth passing along and you're
doing so, and we're thankful for that. Welcome to the airwaves.

Speaker 43 (41:33):
Yeah, thank you very much for having me. You're right,
Triple A is predicting a lot of people to be
on the roads this weekend to visit family, friends, football,
all those cool Thanksgiving activities in this increase in traffic,
so definitely an increase of traffic accidents and risks to
injuries and fatalities. So yeah, we're spreading the word to

(41:54):
start your holiday road trip with a click and buckle up. Now,
generally it's a pretty easy thing to do, right.

Speaker 11 (42:05):
Some of the cars used to come where the seat
belt would automatically buckle you, and I don't know if
they still make those anymore. But every once in a
while I forget because I'm in a hurry, and then
I look down, I say, hey, and I better put
that thing on. And I think, statistically, in Michigan, because
I don't know how they study this, but somehow they do,
we are one of the states that is the most

(42:25):
compliant with wearing seat belts.

Speaker 6 (42:27):
And maybe that's because a lot.

Speaker 11 (42:29):
Of the cars we're driving are made right here and
we're very much aware of the auto industry.

Speaker 43 (42:33):
What do you think, Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 35 (42:36):
Now.

Speaker 43 (42:37):
You know, generally Americans are doing a pretty good job,
and Michigan's one of the better states where the front
row about ninety one percent of the people are buckling up.
But you know what, as you go back in the
rear rows, that second and third row of your vehicles,
actually seat belt usage goes down. And that's concerning. So
GM's got some new technologies to help people remember to

(42:58):
put their seat belts on. One of them is rear
seat belt reminder, which you know, you sometimes get a
false sense of safety in that rear row. But the
truth is that half the vehicle in vehicle fatalities involve
unbuckled passengers. So instead, what we're adding to most of
our cars now is this rear seat belt reminder. It's

(43:19):
like a little icon that's on your front cluster and
it has redexes for people who are unbuckled and green
check marks for people who are buckled. You know, I've
got two teens and I'm always telling them to turn
around and buckle up, you know, So now it's like
I have my own little personal naughty and niseless on
my dash to tell me which one I need to
talk to.

Speaker 11 (43:41):
You know, we even on the airplanes they tell you
please keep your seat belt on in flight because you
just never know. And one of the most memorable sad
lessons we learned was the Detroit Red Wings when they
were celebrating winging the Stanley Cup and there was a
limousine crash in Birmingham that incapacitated some of the people
inside that limousine because you wouldn't think to buckle up

(44:02):
in a limousine.

Speaker 43 (44:05):
Right, Yeah, and some people don't. Let's when you're in
the rear roads. You got to buckle up in every seat.
Every time you're taking a ride share or you're ride
along with your family, even in those rear roads, you
need to buckle up and then wear your seatbelt properly too.
Some people have issues where they don't think it's comfortable.
We have adjusters to help you move all that, but
you got to wear your seatbelt over your shoulder and

(44:26):
on your lap so it's in the proper position if
unfortunately a crash does occur. You know, if you don't
wear it properly, you stick it under your arm or
around your head, it really increases your chance of injury
by like forty five percent.

Speaker 18 (44:41):
It's quite huge.

Speaker 11 (44:42):
Well, we appreciate General Motors caring about us and what
they've done for Michigan and the United States and the
world over the years. And we promise, we promise to
wear the seat belt. It's Michael Patrick Shields. Some people
will be going right over the mackinaw Bridge up. You know,
hunting season is still on. I should mention that Ryan
Duffy from Enbridge Energy has talked to us about tunnel

(45:05):
projects like the one that will be right next to
the mackinaw Bridge the Great Lakes Tunnel, which will encase
the Line five pipelines between the Upper Peninsula and the
Lower Peninsula. It's not the only pipeline and tunnel project
happening in America, is it.

Speaker 34 (45:18):
Tunnels are everywhere most of the time, we don't think
too much about them, and the number is growing now
because there are right now at least thirty major tunnel
projects underway in the country, totaling about fifty billion dollars.
So those are being built under cities, you know, through mountains,
underwater used for traffic, drinking water, storm water. So those

(45:41):
are needed, they're critical infrastructure. There's actually planning the tunnel
from the Nashville Airport to the downtown area. There's two
tunnels happening right now in Virginia. Around the world, there's
big projects. Norway's planning to build the world's longest subsea
tunnel and it's going to have a high in it there.

(46:01):
So all these tunnels projects are happening, and and our tunnel,
of course, will be twenty feet wide with the pipeline
along one side of the tunnel, and then they'll be
room for other utilities to go inside it, potentially high
speed fiber cable.

Speaker 11 (46:17):

It is a football week slash weekend Michael Patrick and
we will start on Thanksgiving Day. As we know, it's
a one o'clock kickoff. I think they've actually moved this back.
It used to be in the twelve o'clock hour. Now
it's just one flat on this one on Fox where
you will see the Detroit Lions bringing in the Green
Bay Packers. Right now, Detroit favored by two and a
half points on this and it is the most expensive

(49:39):
ticket on Thanksgiving, believe it or not. Right now, the
get in price sits at two hundred and thirty two
dollars at four point thirty on CBS, of course with
Jim Nantz. They will be in Dallas as the Cowboys
bring in the Kansas City Chiefs, of course, and the
Chiefs are favored by three in that game. We did
just see the Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagle and

(50:00):
the offense looks pretty good, if I must say. And
then the night cab its on NBC eight twenty Total Leather.
The Baltimore Ravens have the Cincinnati Bengals and it appears
that Joe Burrow will make his return for the Bengals
right now. Baltimore favored by seven. And then if you
can't get enough, on Black Friday, we have a game
and it's a good one. Unfortunately it's only available on

(50:21):
Prime Video. Three o'clock will be the start of this one.
That Eagles spring in the Bears. So we have NFC
North implications on this one. Philadelphia favored by six and
a half. College football on Friday, it is an absolute
jam pack slate. And then you go through the schedule.
Georgia is at Georgia Tech. That's a nice game rate
there you mentioned it and many will be excited to

(50:44):
see Indiana as they travel to Perdue seven thirty that
is on NBC. Don't expect an upset in this one.
We've seen purdues act, We've seen Indiana. The Hoosiers favored
by twenty eight and a half on that one. Of course,
Michigan brings in Ohio State. Now Michigan favored by I
better take that back. The Buckeyes favored by nine and

(51:04):
a half. But we've seen it before where the spread
means nothing. I think last year the Buckeyes were favored
by double that amount at Ohio Stadium, and of course
the University of Michigan won that game. And then seven pm,
Michigan State has Maryland and that will be at Ford Field.
Right now, Michigan State, i think, for the first time
in a couple of months, is favored and it's by

(51:25):
three and a half over the Turfs MPs. That is
brought to you by Dean Transportation.

Speaker 11 (51:29):
We salute our old pal Jim Brandstatter two who played

I'm Michael Kassner. Attorney General Pam Bondi says she will
appeal after the criminal indictments against New York Attorney General
Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comy were dismissed
by a federal judge.

Speaker 30 (54:12):
We'll be taking all available legal action, including an immediate appeal,
to hold Letitia James and James Comy accountable for their
unlawful conduct.

Speaker 7 (54:23):
Both claimed the appointment of Lindsay Halligan as the US
Attorney for the Eastern District while was unlawful. Komy was
indicted for allegedly lying to Congress about the Trump Russia investigation,
while James was indicted for mortgage fraud. Bondi said all
available action would be taken. Comy released a video saying
President Trump can't use the Justice Department to target his

(54:44):
political enemies.

Speaker 31 (54:46):
I know that Donald Trump will probably come after me again,
and my attitude is going to be the same. I'm innocent,
i am not afraid, and I believe in an independent
federal judiciary.

Speaker 7 (54:57):
Comy also said the case against him was a prosecution
based on malevolence and in competence. James issued his statement
saying she's heartened by the victory and once again called
the charges baseless. President Trump assigned an executive order that
would allow his administration to designate certain chapters of the
Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations. More from Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 32 (55:17):
The order gives direction to Secretary of State Marco Rubio
and Treasury Secretary Scott Present to figure out if any
chapters should receive the designation. This move would allow for
increased sanctions as well as more power to disrupt financial support.
A White House factshoot on the order said that the
goal of it was to eliminate the designated chapter's capabilities
and operations and then to deprive them of resources.

Speaker 7 (55:41):
Today, it will be one of the busiest days on
the road for Thanksgiving travelers. According to Triple A, Tomorrow
will also see millions on the road. Some seventy three
million people are expected to drive to their holiday destination.

Longest running labor strike in the nation is coming to
an end, as journalists went back to work work at
the Pittsburgh Post Gazette last week. Local Newspaper Guild members
voted to end the three year work stoppage after a
court ruled in favor of their demands. The strike started
in twenty twenty two overclaims of unfair labor practices, healthcare issues,
and leadership at the Post Gazette taking away the union's contract.

Newly released court documents suggest Meta halted internal research that
showed people became less depressed when they stopped using Facebook.
The documents are part of a large lawsuit against tech
companies by school districts and state attorneys general. Meta says
critics are using cherry pick quotes and misinformed opinions. The
court filings allege Meta misled Congress about its awareness of

Speaker 32 (56:49):
National Retail Federation says this year's holiday sales are expected
to pass one trillion dollars for the first time. Now,
a coalition of groups are urging consumers to stop all
spending on Black Black Friday and Cyber Monday to protest
economic inequality in the US. The groups, including Blackout the
System and the Money Out of Politics Movement are also
calling on shoppers to cancel digital subscriptions during the boycott,

which runs from November twenty fifth through December two. Small
Business Saturday is exempt from the.

Speaker 48 (57:18):
Boycott if you don't take part in the boycott. Black
Friday is good for deals, but Pretennis says it's bad
for our brains.

Speaker 49 (57:26):
Today after Thanksgiving, shopping is a write of passage for many,
a seek and purchase mission for deals, but psychologists say
you better have a plan because the day is designed
to overwhelm your brain with decision making, and the pressure
of a deal lowers the threshold of the word no. Officially,
it's called the speed accuracy trade off, and you're doomed

(57:46):
the second you into a store, So be on the lookout.

Speaker 48 (57:49):
I'm Monica Nelson with your consumer and business news.

Speaker 11 (01:00:44):
You've got all the stuff that.

Speaker 29 (01:00:45):
You need to know.

Speaker 21 (01:00:46):
I came to the conclusion that there are things that
are more important to me and when I'm Michigan.

Speaker 10 (01:00:53):
Michael Patrick Shields is all the air.

Speaker 11 (01:00:56):

That we are heard on radio stations across the state

WKBZ and Muskegon, WATT Cadillac, the Great Southwest WSJM, Saint
Joe Benton Harbor in Northern Michigan WMKTAMN FM, and the
historic WKZO and Kalamazoo WTKG Grand Rapids, and for the

(01:01:43):
next few days WJIMAM twelve forty in Lansing. Because if
you're listening in the Lancing market in the Lansing area specifically,
just make a little programming note that we are going
to be shifting stations and shifting times after this week.
So if you want to hear this program on the

(01:02:05):
radio in Lancing starting in a few days, it'll be
Lancing seven thirty am, where you will hear us on
seven thirty am, and it'll be an afternoon drive from
three to six pm. So when you're picking your kids
up from school, or you're driving home from work, or
you're going out for the evening, or wherever you may

(01:02:25):
be going afternoon drive three to six pm in the
Lansing area on Lancing seven thirty Am is where you
will find this program. Of course, those of you who
want to listen through the streaming and the podcasting can
listen anytime of the day at mibigshow dot com and

(01:02:47):
you can connect there. You can listen to the podcasts
of the live program. The interviews that we do are
also available there atmibigshow dot com and through Apple Podcasts,
So really you can listen anytime you want. The show
will still be performed first thing in the morning, so

(01:03:08):

where you will get us. And so in a sense
we're available all the time and even on the weekends
and even overnights, and so you can start the program
whenever you feel like it, and you can listen straight through,
and you can also pick and choose through the interviews.

Speaker 6 (01:03:24):
So in other words, you look over there and you say,
oh wow, there's an interview with Andrew Abood.

Speaker 11 (01:03:30):
I like to hear what he's up got to say,
and you click on that and you can listen to it.
And you can share it through social media, et cetera
and so forth. So we're extremely accessible to you on
the radio, which we love and also streaming audio and podcasting.
But just to repeat one more time, if you're listening
and Lancing and you tune in and you say, wait,
what happened? They're talking about sports? Now what happened to MPs?

(01:03:54):
Just switch over to Lancing. Seven thirty am is what
it's called, and we will be on from three until
six pm every weekday on the radio in Lansing. It's
MPs with a great radio tradition. I started off listening
to Larry King Overnight. That was his theme song there,
I think that was his television theme song. He was

(01:04:14):
a great radio star on the Mutual Broadcasting System before.

Speaker 6 (01:04:19):
He hit television.

Speaker 11 (01:04:25):
From the nation's capital. It was Larry King and he
was on overnight. He interview someone for an hour, then
take calls for an hour with that guest, and then
he would take the wildest calls you ever imagined from
all across America and his overnight show.

Speaker 6 (01:04:46):
And of course why was I listening to that?

Speaker 11 (01:04:47):
Well, I'd been up listening late to the Tiger Games
with Ernie Harwell and Detroit and you had to hear
something after that. Jay Roberts with night Flight seven sixty
was on after the Tiger Games.

Speaker 6 (01:04:59):
Usually that was on WJR.

Speaker 11 (01:05:01):
And that was a man who would pretend he was
an airline pilot.

Speaker 6 (01:05:04):
No, no joke.

Speaker 11 (01:05:05):
Yeah, he would start the show as if you were
taken off and he would say, tonight we're going to
be flying over.

Speaker 6 (01:05:11):
Grand Rapids and then Chicago, and.

Speaker 11 (01:05:13):
Then we'll make our way out toward Denver, cruising down
into Phoenix, and he would give it just like an
airline pilot.

Speaker 6 (01:05:20):
He would ask you to buckle up your seat belt.

Speaker 11 (01:05:22):
He would play music through the night, and he would
let you know where you were and it was like
you were buckled into an overnight flight.

Speaker 6 (01:05:29):
Radio was so creative back in the day.

Speaker 11 (01:05:32):
So that's what got me enchanted by it. And then
in the mornings, well that was a whole different matter.
That was funny people. And Jim and Jerr, Jim Harper
and Jerry Saint James were the morning show hosts on
WNIC and they used to say we're unique WNIC and
it came from Dearborn, Michigan. And then Jerry left Jim
and went to Jeff and it was Jeff Elliott and

(01:05:54):
Jerry Saint James, and they were on w MJC Magic
it was called, which went on to become WCSX, And anyway,
they were charming to me. And of course I was
fully aware of JP McCarthy as well, because he was
the giant and Dick Perton was the other giant in Detroit.
Dick Perton was a funny man. JP was funny in

(01:06:17):
his way, but he was sort of the show of record,
the news anchor, the man for more than thirty years,
was number.

Speaker 6 (01:06:24):
One in Michigan.

Speaker 11 (01:06:26):
He won the Marconi Award and well every award you
could ever want to give out, and was a very
charitable fellow too. But all of this radio in Detroit
was super enchanting, not to mention the likes of Arthur Penthallow.

Speaker 6 (01:06:38):
Who would be so excited that it was the weekend
that he'd have.

Speaker 11 (01:06:41):
To scream it out on WRIF and well, even Howard
Stern did some time in Detroit at wwww's official there's
Arthur Penhallow. Anyway, can you imagine being a young person
and hearing all of these magical voices, and you know,

(01:07:01):
I'm even forgid there was Dick the Bruiser and all
the rest of that too, And so I just wondered,
can you make a living in radio?

Speaker 6 (01:07:08):
Can you really do that?

Speaker 11 (01:07:09):
And I saw a newspaper article that Jeff and Jerr
were considered to be by critics, not by ratings, the
best show from an independent group that came out. So
I said, I'm going to call them, and I asked
them right when they got off the air, can I
ask you a few questions. I'm just a high school kid.
And they said, come on into the station. We'll answer

(01:07:32):
all the questions you want. I said, I'm going into
a radio station, and I did, and they did, and
here we are today. I can't even believe it that
I got that big break. And then I got to
work for Dick Pertin as an intern and J. P.
McCarthy as a producer, and Jimmy Launce and all the
others too, And what a career. It has been a

(01:07:54):
room with access to some of the great people, the
great voices of all time.

Speaker 35 (01:07:59):
We go Turkey on the.

Speaker 6 (01:08:01):
Road in a minute, yep.

Speaker 11 (01:08:03):
And he had the Michigan, Ohiose State tailgate show, which
was a big tradition, and of course the Saint Patrick's
Day Show, and we try to honor some of those
still quarter of a century later on the great radio
station you're listening to all right now, including Lancing seven
thirty AM in afternoon Drive starting soon so you will

(01:08:25):
find us there and always at MIBiG show dot com.
And also thanks to CMU where I did one year
on the radio there in the mornings WMHW.

Speaker 6 (01:08:37):
Ninety one Rock.

Speaker 11 (01:08:39):
But here we are now on Michigan's Big Show starring
Michael Patrick Shields across Michigan and beyond. Michael Patrick Shields

It promises to be two and a half hours of
some of the most exciting football in the hundred and
four your history of man's inhumanity to man.

Speaker 11 (01:13:05):
Very grateful to have that tradition and the tradition of Thanksgiving,
it's Michael Patrick Shields. You heard me talking about radio stars.
There was a TV star who also influenced me and
inspired me, Johnny Carson. Now you're saying, I know Johnny
was married about five or six times. That's not what

(01:13:25):
I was talking about when it came to inspiration.

Speaker 6 (01:13:28):
But that's okay.

Speaker 11 (01:13:30):
He was, of course, the king of late night television,
and he sort of followed the J. P. McCarthy and
hopefully the MPs tradition of being a nonpartisan host. He
made fun of politicians and had a gentle crack at
them once in a while, but he was never partisan,
and he was always candid and honest, especially in this

(01:13:51):
exchange with his band leader Doc Severnson when they talked
about Thanksgiving.

Speaker 51 (01:13:57):
What do you doing for Thanksgiving? We're we're doing the
shild Of course, I was going.

Speaker 6 (01:14:00):
To ask you if you got your turkey yet?

Speaker 39 (01:14:03):
Sure?

Speaker 52 (01:14:04):
Do you?

Speaker 6 (01:14:04):
Truthfully?

Speaker 51 (01:14:05):
Do you help missus Carson prepare the turkey, just like
you help missus Severnson prepare the turkey? No, there is
no missus. That's right, they're used to be. I'm sorry,
I didn't mean to do that. Fact the fact that
I never made your stuff.

Speaker 52 (01:14:21):
For bird was one of our big problems.

Speaker 51 (01:14:30):
I thought that was your problem. Well, no, you know
I forgot all about that. That we've been together so
long that I forget sometimes where we are. But that
was one of the things we really thought about.

Speaker 52 (01:14:41):
What I wanted an oyster stuffing in the turkey, and
she wanted bread stuffing. And she got bread stuffing and
a lot of money.

Speaker 51 (01:14:58):
Mean, you used to arm thank you about what you're
going to stuff the turkey with? Yes, and that was
one of the problems. She's still stuffing the turkey with money. Well,
it's nice, said, No, you have no bitterness. You're not
gonna say I suppose you'll be home with the family.
I mean turkey, just a typical American family. Look, if

(01:15:27):
you want to you really feel badly now. It feels
so terrible that you're going to be alone.

Speaker 53 (01:15:33):
Him say I was gonna be all.

Speaker 51 (01:15:36):
You say, you ain't going.

Speaker 32 (01:15:37):
To eat no turkey?

Speaker 51 (01:15:38):
That's right, because long the would you like to come
to the house. And this is the first time you've
ever asked me.

Speaker 32 (01:15:46):
What you made me feel so guilty me?

Speaker 51 (01:15:49):
I mean you when you ask an employe and for
the fifteen minion.

Speaker 52 (01:15:52):
People do you want to come to the House of
for Thanksgiving?

Speaker 6 (01:15:56):
What am I gonna say? No?

Speaker 51 (01:16:01):
You know what I say?

Speaker 52 (01:16:02):
I say yes, mister Carson, I love it.

Speaker 32 (01:16:05):
Can you come?

Speaker 9 (01:16:06):
No?

Speaker 11 (01:16:20):
Two bachelors celebrating Thanksgiving, And if they were to watch television,
they would have watched WKRP in Cincinnati, which had one
of the other great Thanksgiving storylines. It was when they
decided to have a promotion where a helicopter would go
over the shopping mall parking lot and drop turkeys to
the people below who might be able to then, you know,

(01:16:44):
have them for Thanksgiving. And it was mister Carlson and
less Nessman the newsman and Johnny Fever. Les Meston was
on the ground to cover the drop of the turkeys
at the mall. Johnny Fever was on the air and
it sounded like this.

Speaker 7 (01:16:59):
What exactly did you have an mister Charlson, What do
you suppose he's up to?

Speaker 6 (01:17:02):
And I think I.

Speaker 21 (01:17:03):
Hear something now something just came out of the boer
heads a skydivers, no parachute chads.

Speaker 2 (01:17:09):
Oh my god, turkeys.

Speaker 4 (01:17:11):
Are hitting the ground like sense of wits.

Speaker 29 (01:17:13):
Thanks for that on the spot report.

Speaker 4 (01:17:16):
I thought it would work.

Speaker 5 (01:17:18):
It's pretty strange. After that, I really don't know how
to describe it.

Speaker 34 (01:17:22):
As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

Speaker 11 (01:17:27):
Yeah, in love Less Nusbin described it like it was
the Hindenburg, one of the big tragedies that took place
right on the air. It wasn't a tragedy on the air.
It was a blooper. And it was JP McCarthy, who
I mentioned earlier, the great radio host from Detroit, who
was broadcasting the Thanksgiving Day parade on radio, and he
had Tiger broadcaster Paul Kerrey by his side, and along

(01:17:50):
came a singing Pom Pom troop as one of the
entries in the parade, and that sounded like this, Joe,
I have.

Speaker 10 (01:18:02):
No idea that Palm Hon girls could be so delightful orally.

Speaker 32 (01:18:10):
Basically are very attractive, and they sound good, and they're
also dressed in as you'll note.

Speaker 11 (01:18:16):
Okay, speaking of delightful orally, Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving song is
one that we cannot forget. There are Christmas carols, but
first come the Thanksgiving song.

Speaker 30 (01:18:28):
Turkey for Me.

Speaker 54 (01:18:30):
Turkey for you. Let's eat the turkey in my big
brown shoes. Love to eat the turkey at the table.
I once saw a movie with Betty Grable. Eat that
turkey all night long. Fifty million Opish fans can't be wrong.

(01:18:53):
Turkey lurkey doom and turkey lurky gap. I eat that turkey.

Speaker 5 (01:18:58):
Then I take fun.

Speaker 55 (01:19:00):
Yeah, thanks Giving is a spishal Mine.

Speaker 56 (01:19:13):
Jillie Walker used to say, time olm, that's right. Turkey
with gravy and cranberry.

Speaker 54 (01:19:25):
Can't believe the Mets traded Dallas drawberry turkey for you
and turkey Bommie. Can't believe Tyson gave that girl beating. Oh,
white meat, dark meat.

Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
You just can't lose.

Speaker 11 (01:19:47):

Speaker 33 (01:20:06):
The investment will allow agencies to access Amazon Web services,
AI tools, anthropics, Claude family of models, and Nvidia chips,
as well as Amazon's custom Trainium AI chips. The project
is set to break ground in twenty twenty six, and
it's expected to add one point three gigle watts of
capacity across new data centers. The move follows similar announcements

(01:20:26):
from Anthropic and Meta to expand AI data centers here.

Speaker 32 (01:20:29):
In the US, President Donald Trump reportedly pausing an executive
order regarding AI regulation. Rider says the effort to state
level AI regulation faced opposition from some Republicans. Last week,
reports spread that Trump was ready to sue states or
cut off federal broadband funding if states like California regulated AI.
A newly released court document suggests that Meta halted internal

(01:21:25):
man right now, Larry Olmstaed, the travel writer who's been
to northern Michigan and at this Thanksgiving has actually been
to Plymouth Rock.

Speaker 6 (01:21:34):
Happy Thanksgiving?

Speaker 11 (01:21:36):
And what is Plymouth Rock like to visit other than
the Pilgrims. Of course they were the first visitors.

Speaker 6 (01:21:41):
Weren't they.

Speaker 25 (01:21:42):
Yes, Michael, as you mentioned, I'm glad to be brought
to you by our friends at Point Resorts Leader in
an outdoor recreation with the best scalf and ski resorts
across Michigan and North America. Plymouth Rock is literally a rock.
It's a little bit unimpressive. It sits in a little
enclosure like a gazebo monument in the middle of the

(01:22:04):
town of Plymouth. You don't have to pay to go
see it. You just go and look at it. It's
a rock, so it's not that exciting by itself. But
the town of Plymouth, you know, the whole vibe is
Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims. And they have a thing called
a Pilgrim Museum where they have a period village where

(01:22:25):
people dress up, sort of like Colonial Williamsburg. They have
a recreate, exact recreation of the Mayflower called the Mayflower Too,
that you can go on and walk through and see
how the Pilgrims made the voyage. They've got a beautiful
town full of galleries and shops and breweries and wineries,
so there's a lot going on.

Speaker 57 (01:22:44):
You know.

Speaker 25 (01:22:44):
It's just outside of Boston. If you're interested in colonial
history and Thanksgiving, it's definitely the place to go. And
it's kind of Thanksgiving year round.

Speaker 6 (01:22:53):
Must have been some cruise on that boat.

Speaker 25 (01:22:55):
Eh, Yeah. And I've actually been to Plymouth, England where
they set sail from, which is also where the Plymouth
Rum Distillery is. If you've ever had Plymouth Navy strength
rum or they used to give to the guys in
the British Navy instead of money back in the day.
And it's the only place in the UK where they
fly the American flag and the Union Jack at the

(01:23:17):
same height all the time to commemorate that voyage. And
it's kind of cool. You can see both ends of
the operation.

Speaker 35 (01:23:23):
Well.

Speaker 11 (01:23:24):
On this Thanksgiving, we wish you real food, not fake food.
Larry Olmsted's bestseller on the New York Times list is
real Food, Fake Food, and we're all about food on
Thanksgiving and thanks to the Pilgrims too. It's Michael Patrick
Shields through the AD and T microphone.

Speaker 7 (01:24:00):
NBC News Radio. I'm Michael Cassner, Attorney General. Pam Bondi
says she will appeal after the criminal indictments against New
York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI director James
Comy were dismissed by a federal judge.

Speaker 30 (01:24:12):
We'll be taking all available legal action, including an immediate appeal,
to hold Letitia James and James Comy accountable for their
unlawful conduct.

Speaker 7 (01:24:23):
Both claim the appointment of Lindsay Halligan as the US
Attorney for the Eastern District was unlawful. Komy was indicted
for allegedly lying to Congress about the Trump Russia investigation,
while James was indicted for mortgage fraud. Bondi said all
available action would be taken. Comy released a video saying
President Trump can't use the Justice Department to target his

(01:24:45):
political enemies.

Speaker 31 (01:24:46):
I know that Donald Trump will probably come after me again,
and my attitude is going to be the same. I'm innocent,
i am not afraid, and I believe in an independent
federal judiciary.

Speaker 7 (01:24:58):
Comy also said the case against him was prosecution based
on malevolence and in confidence. James issued a statement saying
she's heartened by the victory and once again called the
charges baseless. President Trump assigned an executive order that would
allow his administration to designate certain chapters of the Muslim
Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations. More from Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 32 (01:25:18):
The order gives direction to Secretary of State Marco Rubio
and Treasury Secretary Scott Present to figure out if any
chapters should receive the designation. This move would allow for
increased sanctions as well as more power to disrupt financial support.
A White House factshoot on the order said that the
goal of it was to eliminate the designated chapter's capabilities
and operations and then to deprive them of resources.

Speaker 7 (01:25:41):
Today it will be one of the busiest days on
the road for Thanksgiving travelers. According to Triple A, Tomorrow
will also see millions on the road. Some seventy three
million people are expected to drive to their holiday destination.
Michael Kasner in bc News radio.

Speaker 27 (01:25:56):
Health officials are raising concerns as the flu is spreading
earlier than unusual in some parts of the country. Some
infectious disease specialists have already noted a sharp increase in
flu cases over the past few weeks, as a form
of the virus called H three and two subclate k
has set off massive outbreaks in Canada and the UK.

(01:26:16):
According to the CDC, most of the flu circulating so
far this season in the US is the H three
N two strain, which can cause more hospitalizations and deaths
in older adults. The concerns come as millions of Americans
prepared to travel and to gather for Thanksgiving and other
upcoming holidays. COVID nineteen cases are climbing or likely to

(01:26:39):
climb in nineteen states, including Texas, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Colorado.
That's according to the CDC, which is recommending COVID shots
for those six months in older using a decision making
approach that weighs personal risk.

Speaker 28 (01:26:53):
Health update. I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.

Speaker 54 (01:27:04):
Coming out of my cage and oven and just fine.

Speaker 30 (01:27:07):
Got it?

Speaker 38 (01:27:08):
Tell me because I want to starting out a.

Speaker 5 (01:27:17):
Fine same if he's calling.

Speaker 11 (01:27:21):
If you're at Michigan Stadium from the Ohio State Michigan game,
at some point you will hear the student section sing
this song in one of the sweetest collegiate moments in sports.

Speaker 6 (01:27:33):
Yeah, we love the band.

Speaker 11 (01:27:35):
But we've come to love this because at one point
during this song, when it's playing through the speakers, the
volume will be lowered and you will hear just the
student section singing at the top of their voices. Mister Brightside,

(01:28:22):
mister Andy Hetzel will be with us in just a minute,
and he is mister Bright's side because he's going to
talk about prescription drug savings and the partnerships that lead
to that.

Speaker 6 (01:28:34):
It's MPs.

Speaker 11 (01:28:35):
I wonder what happens to the ozempic crowd at Thanksgiving dinner?

Speaker 6 (01:28:40):
Do they eat much less?

Speaker 11 (01:28:41):
I imagine they would, but I'm positive that ozempic.

Speaker 6 (01:28:45):
Wouldn't work for me.

Speaker 11 (01:28:46):
And the real reason is that hunger is not the
reason I eat. It's emotional and I enjoy eating, and
sometimes I think about it as a way of comfort.
If you go tom I Blue Daily, which I'm doing
right now, Wow, I'm going to learn more about it
because there is an article there and a podcast too,
how to deal with what drives our emotional eating. Stress

(01:29:09):
can cause over eating and too much drinking too for.

Speaker 6 (01:29:12):
What it's worth, those behaviors.

Speaker 11 (01:29:14):
Can lead to long term health issues, and so the
podcast is hosted by Chuck Gaeteka, a Detroit legend, and
doctor William B. Croft, the medical director of Behavioral Health
at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. And they talk
about how to deal with what's driving emotional eating. And
I think I will listen to that today. I'm reading

(01:29:35):
it right now. You can take it however you like.
You can read it, you can listen to it atmiblue
Daily dot com. Maybe while I'm on the treadmill and
I get two for the price of one.

Speaker 6 (01:29:46):
I don't know if you.

Speaker 11 (01:29:46):
Can get two for the price of one drugs. But
one of the things Andy Hetzel and Blue Cross is
working on is the ability to bring down.

Speaker 6 (01:29:54):
The cost of healthcare. He's with us right.

Speaker 11 (01:29:56):
Now and we're thankful for it. Welcome back to the airwaves.

Speaker 58 (01:30:00):
Well, good morning, Michael Patrick, and happy Thanksgiving to you
and your staff, Tony Cuthbert, everybody there at your program,
your families, and everybody listening right now. We hope you
have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday celebration and
eat well in moderation.

Speaker 11 (01:30:18):
Somebody right now is listening and they're on the way
to the drug store, to the pharmacy, probably to pick
up what they need for the weekend. And that's been
our conversation and the cost of what they're paying for
and what Blue Cross is paying for. When it comes
to drugs, and you're trying very hard, as I understand
it at Blue Cross to help us all, and we
have a part too and lowering.

Speaker 58 (01:30:40):
Those costs absolutely, and we are thankful for the many
wonderful therapies that are coming from the drug industry, but
unfortunately that same drug industry has enormous power with regard
to how much those therapies cost. Drug Makers can price
their products as high as they want without any regulation
at all, and patent protection laws keep those prices in

(01:31:03):
market without competition for ten or even fifteen years, and
so we are struggling through that right now. Blue crosses
drug claims costs. That's the amount of money that we
paid for our members prescription drugs last year increased by
fifteen percent in one year. That's five times the rate
of inflation. And so what we're trying to do right

(01:31:26):
now is we're trying to innovate and bring some solutions
to market. And as you teed up, we are seeing
some success there trying to save our members and customers
significant dollars on these therapies that cost, in many cases
thousands of dollars per member per month.

Speaker 11 (01:31:45):
Do you think Andy hats all that many of the
people who need prescription drugs need them on an ongoing basis.

Speaker 58 (01:31:52):
Oh, they absolutely do. I'll include myself in that. More
than six in ten adults in the United States has
an ongoing scripcription, and nearly three out of ten is
on four or more prescription medications. And again, those medications
can be quite pricey. Among the twenty most prescribed drugs

(01:32:12):
that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan paid for in
twenty twenty four, about half of them have list prices
above one thousand dollars per month. That is how expensive
the drug industry has made their products, and as those
products stay in market without competition, those prices add up
and they're right now being felt downstream in the health

(01:32:33):
insurance premiums that small employers are paying, that individuals are paying.

Speaker 11 (01:32:38):
And that is part of the reason why Blue Cross
is finding innovative ways to partner to lower those costs
for members and customers that you just mentioned.

Speaker 6 (01:32:46):
How are you doing that?

Speaker 58 (01:32:49):
In many ways, we're partnering with twenty two other Blue
Cross and Blue Shield licensed companies around the country to
manufacture and distribute generic prescription drugs that a fraction of
the costs that consumers typically would hey for the brand
name counterparts. One of those drugs, widely used as a
treatment for several types of cancer, is being made available
now for about fifteen hundred dollars less per month than

(01:33:11):
versions from other prescription drug manufacturers. That is just one
thing that we're doing. We're also introducing a biosimilar right
now to one of the most expensive drugs that's been
on our formularea, a drug named Humera, and that biosimilar
is saving our members more than ninety percent off the
list price of hume Era. And that is just an

(01:33:32):
example of the type of innovation that Blue Cross is
committed to bringing to market to address this challenge to
help insurance affordability.

Speaker 11 (01:33:40):
Is there anything that we should know when we go
to the pharmacy to pick up our prescriptions in terms
of those biosimilars or generics that you.

Speaker 58 (01:33:49):
Talked about a couple of things. So our members should
look at their benefits, look at the drug list, and
make sure that the drugs that they need are covered
by their benefits. They should talk to their doctors about
generic equivalents to brand name drugs that are being prescribed
to them. Make sure that you're asking your doctor is
there a lower cost alternative available, and then at the

(01:34:11):
pharmacy talk to the pharmacist not only about the drug,
but about the cost and about generic alternatives if available.

Speaker 11 (01:34:19):
Andy Hutzel, that's we started off saying that you go
to MII Blue Daily dot com for many, many, many
intriguing issues, and this is one of them there too,
So we appreciate that very much.

Speaker 6 (01:34:31):
I wanted to.

Speaker 11 (01:34:32):
I hate to bring this up because this is the
Michigan Ohio State weekend and Michigan State's playing downtown Detroit
against Maryland, and the Lions of course playing downtown against
the Packers. Do I remember correctly you went to Syracuse,
didn't you? Yes, sir, did you watch that Notre Dame
Syracuse game last weekend?

Speaker 58 (01:34:53):
I was actually out blowing leaves during that game, and
I was thankful for that, stutting away from the TV.
We've had a challenge at the quarterback position this year.
Michael Patrick, our quarterback, got hurt three games end of
the season and it hasn't been the same for Syracuse
University since then. So it's a down year, but we
will spring back. We'll be back in action next season

(01:35:13):
and hopefully on the upswing.

Speaker 11 (01:35:15):
If I remember Tony Cuthbert Notre Dame was up twenty
one to nothing without the offense scoring any.

Speaker 6 (01:35:21):
Points something like that. We're not trying to rub it
in or anything here. I mean, my goodness, it was
extremely unique. But you have hope for the bills.

Speaker 11 (01:35:29):
And they remain a challenge every week. And the NFL
is designed that way. It's supposed to be full of
parody and full of excitement, and so thank you very
much for the excitement you get us through the year.
And blowing leaves, that's good therapy. We might have to
make an article about that Formiblue Daily dot com. Yard
work can feel great, not snow shoveling, though you have

Speaker 11 (01:39:53):
And you can walk through in ann Arbor the Pioneer
High School parking lot and field, and you can hear Bob.
You for his voice still all these decades later, ringing
out from people's radios as they tailgate before the twelve
to fifteen kickoff Saturday morning.

Speaker 6 (01:40:10):
And I'm sure if you walk through FireKeepers.

Speaker 11 (01:40:13):
Casino and Battle Creek on Saturday morning, you'll see that
game on most of the televisions all.

Speaker 6 (01:40:20):
Around the casino.

Speaker 11 (01:40:21):
And then Saturday night, the Spartans are playing downtown Detroit.
You'll be able to see them at FireKeepers as well.
Jim Wise is the vice president of Marketing at FireKeepers
and on our radio stage right now at Thanksgiving. Welcome
back to the airwaves.

Speaker 57 (01:40:36):
Michael Patrick. Always great to be with you, and I
hope your giant audience has a great Thanksgiving weekend and
we get so many things going on at fire Keepers
this weekend, including the football that you mentioned with Ohio
State being at ten point favorite coming up on Saturday.
But Saturday is also a huge day as we're doing
our they Pay Your Way giveaway, which is a monster

(01:41:00):
day for us in a great day for people to
get some vacations and prizes. How about one hundred and
seventy thousand dollars worth of vacations and prizes and it
starts off at twelve noon and runs all the way
to ten o'clock. By the way, at ten o'clock, somebody
wins twenty thousand dollars in a travel voucher and ten
thousand dollars in Red Hot credits, So you'd get your

(01:41:21):
fire keepers on and get yourself an amazing trip to
somewhere around the world, including a Portugal, which I was
blessed to go to earlier this year and had a great,
great experience. So there's places out there to go out
and see, and you can go see them thanks to
fire Keepers.

Speaker 11 (01:41:36):
Coming up this Saturday, one winner at ten o'clock will
get twenty thousand, Two winners at eight o'clock fifteen thousand
dollars travel vouchers plus Red Hot Rewards credits, and then
at six o'clock this is on Saturday, three winners get
ten thousand. Four o'clock, three winners get five thousand. Two o'clock,
three winners three thousand, and then three winners will get

(01:41:57):
that starting it all off at noon in Red Hot credits.
With this voucher, do you get to pick where you
want to go or how does it work?

Speaker 57 (01:42:07):
One hundred percent. We'll basically give you that and that
is good for whether you want to go by air,
by boat, by skateboard, it doesn't matter. That travel voucher
will be good. It's not one of those highly limited scenarios. No,
you just then pick the place and how do you
want to get there. It's two flights, and it's three flights.

(01:42:28):
You're going around the world. Whatever you want to do,
that travel voucher will be able to get you there.

Speaker 11 (01:42:34):
What if somebody wins and they say I want to
go to Battle Creek.

Speaker 57 (01:42:38):
Then we will put them in a car with one
hundred and seven twenty thousand dollars in a gas credit,
and we will drive them around until they're completely satisfied
that they've seen everything in that great city.

Speaker 11 (01:42:51):
So, and you can start at the pit stop there
and get the gas right there on property gone right.

Speaker 57 (01:42:58):
We will keep circling around and make sure when that
tank gets low, we're exactly ironically, look at where we're at.
We're at the pit stop gas station right here at
fire Keepers. We'll pick up some more fuel keep you going.

Speaker 11 (01:43:10):
You know, it was one thing we would watch the
lions on Thanksgiving and then we would eat and we
sort of stare at each other and two things would happen.
You know, we would either start a family poker game
or and or we would go to the movies. That
was like a Thanksgiving kind of thing to do. Now
though you have FireKeepers open twenty four to seven, and
I imagine there are a lot of people who once

(01:43:30):
they finish up with all that, they make their way
to the casino. And not just on Thanksgiving, but Black
Friday is a good attachment too to stop in there
and then with the football all weekend right up through
the primetime game of the Spartans.

Speaker 6 (01:43:44):
I mean that's a weekend, it is.

Speaker 57 (01:43:47):
And on Black Friday, we have a Monster Day with
thousands in gift cards and Red Hot Credits also, and
that runs from one pm to five pm on Friday,
so you can win Red Hot Credits. You can win
gift cards from Visa, Dick, Sporting Goods, Best Pro Shops,
Best Buy more. Every hour, five different winners will be

(01:44:11):
drawn to select a gift card from a punchboard, plus
receive a Red Hot Credit prize. So Black Friday is
a green Friday and get you off to your holiday
shopping by visiting fire Keepers.

Speaker 11 (01:44:23):
And you know they have those doorbuster sales at the stores,
but it's always open at fire Keepers. It's a twenty
four to seven operation. And for people who maybe don't
want to cook on Thanksgiving or don't have that option,
can they come in and.

Speaker 57 (01:44:36):
Eat there short end because all our restaurants are open
and they have their regular menu for example, plus they
will have a special Thanksgiving menu, so you can check
on our website. There's a special at need Be, a
special at Cafe, a special at Smoke and Fire. So
if you want the Thanksgiving experience, we're going to deliver that.

(01:44:57):
And if you say, hey, nope, I would just like
a certain meal at one of the fire Keepers restaurants,
we'll be ready to deliver that also. And on Thanksgiving,
our staffed an awesome job by going around doing two
three hundred plus meal ceremonies for those less fortunate in
Battle Creek. So our thank you, Thank you a fire
Keeper's Food and Beverage member if you're at the casino

(01:45:20):
for all they did.

Speaker 6 (01:45:21):
That's very very sweet, and thank you very much.

Speaker 11 (01:45:24):
And please thank Homer Mandoca. I'm sure he's going to
be wearing a bow tie on Thanksgiving and he's back
in the game again.

Speaker 57 (01:45:31):
Eh, Yes, he is our new chairperson for our tribal council.
Elections were completed and new positions were made, and Ariel
Boonster is our vice chairperson. And maybe we'll get a
chance to have you talk to one of them, or
maybe both, who knows when you happen to bring the

(01:45:52):
greatness of Michigan's Big Show to fire Keepers coming up
in December on the nineteenth, the.

Speaker 11 (01:45:58):
Friday before Christmas, from the money Keeper's Main stage at
fire Keepers Casino from six till nine a m. We'll
be there on the stage. Market on your calendar, come
down and join us. We'll have some serious laughs. And
of course we can't forget that the Native Americans are
a big part of the Thanksgiving tradition and a big
part of Michigan, a giant part, of course, of fire

(01:46:20):
Keeper's Casino. Thank you, Jim, to you and your family
for always being available for us there twenty four to seven.

Speaker 6 (01:46:27):
With MPs.

Speaker 11 (01:46:28):
When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only seeing.

Speaker 6 (01:46:34):
Part of the picture.

Speaker 11 (01:46:35):
The truth is our health insurance costs reside downstream at
the end of the cost equation. But to really understand
what's driving up costs, we need to look upstream to
the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there are costs like the
price is charged by hospitals and doctors, and the cost
of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology. These costs flow

(01:46:58):
downstream directly in to your health insurance premium. That's why
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating for a
system wide solution to address the rising cost of healthcare.
Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs to work
for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts with shedding
light on the entire cost equation from upstream costs to

(01:47:19):
downstream premiums.

In BC News Radio. I'm Mark Mayfield. Today is going
to be one of the busiest days on the roads
for Thanksgiving travelers, according to Triple A Tomorrow Rule. Also
see millions on the roads as well as the Sunday
after Thanksgiving. Health officials are raising concerns as the flu
is spreading earlier than usual in some parts of the country.
Jim Roop reports.

Speaker 33 (01:52:09):
Some infectious disease specialists have already noted a sharp increase
in flu cases over the past few weeks, as a
form of the virus called H three N two subclate
k has set off massive outbreaks in Canada and the UK.
The CDC says the majority of flu circulating so far
this season in the US is the H three and
two strain, which can cause more hospitalizations and deaths and

(01:52:31):
order adults. The concerns come as millions of Americans prepared
to travel and gather for the Thanksgiving and other upcoming holidays.

Speaker 32 (01:52:38):
I'm Jim Roop and President Trump has accepted an invitation
to visit China. Mark Mayfield, NBC News Radio.

Speaker 44 (01:52:45):
In the Northeast, lake effect snow is expected across western
and northern New York and into northern Pennsylvania. New England
stays mostly cloudy and dry, with temperatures in the mid forties.
Sunshine throughout the mid Atlantic States as highs reached the
low fifties. Mostly sunny throughout the Southeast, the Carolina's warming
into the mid sixties, while Georgia and Florida top out
in the low eighties. Scattered showers are expected around the

(01:53:06):
Central Gulf, mainly in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Texas stays
mostly dry with highs in the mid seventies. Snowy showers
continue throughout the Midwest around the Great Lakes, with light
lake effect bands in Michigan, northern Idaho and highs in
the upper thirties. Sunshine across both Dakota and Nebraska, with
temps in the mid forties. Warmer further south, with Kansas
and Oklahoma reaching the sixties. Sunny and warming up in

the desert southwest with highs in the upper seventies to
the low eighties. Most of California's under sunneastkies, with southern
California hitting near eighty. Central and northern areas stay in
the low seventies, and more rain in the Pacific Northwest
from Seattle to Portland, with heavy mountain snow in the Cascades.
That's National forecast. I'm Tammy Trio News Radio.

Speaker 7 (01:54:01):
I'm Michael Cassner. Attorney General Pam Bondi says she will
appeal after the criminal indictments against New York Attorney General
Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comy were dismissed
by a federal judge.

Speaker 30 (01:54:12):
We'll be taking all available legal action, including an immediate appeal,
to hold Letitia James and James Commey accountable for their
unlawful conduct.

Speaker 7 (01:54:23):
Both claimed the appointment of Lindsey Halligan as the US
Attorney for the Eastern District while was unlawful. Komy was
indicted for allegedly lying to Congress about the Trump Russia investigation,
while James was indicted for mortgage fraud. Bondi said all
available action would be taken. Comy released a video saying
President Trump can't use the Justice Department to target his

(01:54:44):
political enemies.

Speaker 31 (01:54:46):
I know that Donald Trump will probably come after me again,
and my attitude is going to be the same. I'm innocent,
i am not afraid, and I believe in an independent
federal judiciary.

Speaker 7 (01:54:57):
Comy also said the case against him was a prosecutor
based on malevolence and in confidence. James issued his statement
saying she's heartened by the victory and once again called
the charges baseless. President Trump assigned an executive order that
would allow his administration to designate certain chapters of the
Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations.

Speaker 32 (01:55:16):
More from Mark Mayfield, The order gives direction to Secretary
of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Presant to
figure out if any chapters should receive the designation. This
move would allow for increased sanctions as well as more
power to disrupt financial support. A White House factshoot on
the order said that the goal of it was to
eliminate the designated chapter's capabilities and operations, and then to

(01:55:39):
deprive them of resources.

Speaker 7 (01:55:41):
Today, it will be one of the busiest days on
the road for Thanksgiving travelers. According to Triple A. Tomorrow
we'll also see millions on the road. Some seventy three
million people are expected to drive to their holiday destination.
Michael Kassner and BC News Radio.

Speaker 48 (01:55:55):
The longest running labor strike in the nation is coming
to an end, as journalists went back to work work
at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette last week. Local newspaper Guild
members voted to end the three year work stoppage after
a court ruled in favor of their demands. The strike
started in twenty twenty two overclaims of unfair labor practices,
healthcare issues, and leadership at the Post Gazette taking away

stopped using Facebook. The documents are part of a large
lawsuit against tech companies by school districts and state attorneys general.
Meta says critics are using cherry pick quotes and misinformed opinions.
The court filings allege Meta misled Congress about its awareness

(01:56:38):
of the social media platform's mental health impacts. Several grassroots
organizations are calling for a nationwide economic boycott on Black Friday.
Mark Mayfield reports the.

Speaker 32 (01:56:49):
National Retail Federation says this year's holiday sales are expected
to pass one trillion dollars for the first time. Now,
a coalition of groups are urch and consumers to stop
all spending on Black Friday and Cyber Monday to protest
economic inequality in the US. The groups, including Blackout the
System and the Money Out of Politics Movement, are also
calling on shoppers to cancel digital subscriptions during the boycott,

(01:57:13):
which runs from November twenty fifth through December second. Small
Business Saturday is exempt from the boycott.

Speaker 48 (01:57:19):
If you don't take part in the boycott. Black Friday
is good for deals, but Pretennis says it's bad for
our brains.

Speaker 49 (01:57:26):
Today after Thanksgiving, shopping is a rite of passage for many,
a seek and purchase mission for deals, but psychologists say
you better have a plan because the day is designed
to overwhelm your brain with decision making, and the pressure
of a deal lowers the threshold of the word no. Officially,
it's called the speed accuracy trade off, and you're doomed

You might be going over the river and through the

Nicole.

Speaker 11 (02:02:24):
Noel Williams remembers that movie and she hopes that your
travels this weekend are a little less dramatic, don't.

Speaker 62 (02:02:30):
We Yes, we do great to be with you this morning.

Speaker 11 (02:02:34):
Thank you the President and CEO Capital Region International Airport,
Fly Lansing dot com. And this is, as I understand it,
even though Christmas is still to come, the busiest travel
days of the year, this very weekend.

Speaker 62 (02:02:49):
It is, yes, and so folks traveling today and tomorrow
and then Sunday. Sunday is like the ultimate day of
travel when we we wrap up the Thanksgiving as everybody's
on airplanes. But yes, today and tomorrow it's kind of
spread out where we'll have full flights going out for
folks going to visit family and friends, but also those

(02:03:12):
coming in will have a lot of Greeter's curb side
picking up family and friends. So make sure you keep
aware of other folks around you and your surroundings. And
we look forward to greeting everybody back here in their
hometown here at Lanting.

Speaker 11 (02:03:28):
I know that you've flown in and out of Los
Angeles a bit because you have family there. But I
can remember Thanksgiving. I think it was a couple of
years ago. I was driving my son to the airport
and it was a night flight and he had to
get out of the car on Sepulvida and run up
the embankment into the yeah, because you couldn't get a

(02:03:50):
car in that place. I mean, for miles it was
red lights. That's not going to happen at Lansing Airport.

Speaker 62 (02:03:57):
It does get wrapped up all the way around the
front of the terminal. And even last night I left
late from the office and a flight came in and
it was two cars deep, a lot of people picking
up family and friends. So keep in mind the short
term parking lot is stones throw away, inexpensive parking. First
few minutes there are of course for free. So if

(02:04:20):
our greeting loved ones don't hesitate, just to pull in
and park in the short term parking lot, pick up
your family and friends and make maybe a little bit
easier for folks that are dropping off and getting picked up.

Speaker 11 (02:04:32):
I always feel like, you know, we all have a
little bit of a responsibility when it comes to making
the travel experience smoother. Are there things we can do
to be good travelers and good skates, you.

Speaker 35 (02:04:43):
Know what I mean.

Speaker 62 (02:04:45):
Definitely, I think first and foremost when this time of
the year there's a little bit less of maybe business traveling,
and there's a lot more family traveling and those that
maybe travel just once a year, and so keep in
mind of patients of those around you. Show up to
the airports early, make sure you're there ninety minutes ahead
of time before your departure, and then keep in mind

(02:05:06):
over this past year, the regulations have changed with airlines
requiring you to get your bags checked in forty five
minutes before the departure time, and there's not flexibility with that.
So if you're traveling and you've got your luggage, make
sure you're there at least forty five minutes in advance,
get your bags checked, and then also think about when
you're going through security that three one one rule still qualify,

(02:05:29):
so your liquids and gels need to be put in
a ziplock baggy. And then if you're traveling with gifts,
hold off.

Speaker 36 (02:05:35):
On wrapping those gifts.

Speaker 62 (02:05:36):
What I've done in the past is I wrap the
gift and leave one end open, so that way if
TSA does need to inspect the item that's inside. You're
not having to open up an unwrap a gift totally,
so keep that in mind. And of course, as I mentioned,
show up early and pack your patients because there could

(02:05:57):
be some delays along the way with weather that's throughout
the country and it's planes being impacted from one location
to the next. So just keep that in mind as
you're thinking of traveling here over the next few days.

Speaker 6 (02:06:09):
What is the three to one one rule?

Speaker 62 (02:06:12):
Oh, it's putting your liquids and gels in a ziplock baggie,
a three ounce size containers of any of those liquids
and gels and you can only have one zip black
baggye per person, So it depends on TSA. Sometimes they
are going to require you to take out the bag.
Majority of the time, what I've seen traveling it is
just I leave it in my bag and it's combined

(02:06:35):
and it's collected together, so that way it's easier for
the TSA agent's fuel to screen the packages.

Speaker 11 (02:06:40):
Three ounce bottles or less. And I wonder, I always
wonder about someone's sort of travel profile, if you will,
are they the type who like to shirp of bags
all through the airport and try to fit them in
the overhead so that they don't have to check one
or do they check bags and walk unfettered in a
comfortable fashion through the airport and no hurry to get

(02:07:02):
on the flight because they're not worried about overhead space.

Speaker 62 (02:07:05):
Yeah, you know, I personally, I used to carry on
everything my suitcase and I now check a bag. I
check a bag traditionally everywhere I go, unless it's just
a one night stay somewhere, and it is just so
much easier and smoother and a lot less of a
challenge when you're trying to board a plane, and you're

(02:07:27):
going to see a lot of that as you come
into the holiday season. Folks are going to try to
carry on as much as they can and it will
become a challenge. So keeping in mind of respect to
others when you're boarding the aircraft, of keeping your items
within the space that you have a seat and underneath
the seat in front of you to accommodate for those
larger bags that needed to go above your head.

Speaker 11 (02:07:47):
You and I are lucky because we travel frequently, so
we don't have to pay usually for checked bags because
of the vibe travel that we do, but some people
do and they're trying to avoid that. I don't know
what the policies are for Delta or American or Breeze
airways in terms of, you know, paying for bags.

Speaker 6 (02:08:05):
I think it's it's quite vary.

Speaker 11 (02:08:07):
Depending on what kind of traveler you are. But one
thing's for sure is it's very easy to check a
bag at Lancing because the lines aren't typically long, and
the getting your bag from either the drop off at
the sidewalk or even the parking lot is not very far.

Speaker 62 (02:08:22):
That's right, That's right. And you know, as you look
at getting checked in, whether it's domestic or international, those
all factors play a role. So make sure you visit
the airlines websites for further details and information. We have
links to all the carriers' websites right from fly lancing

We're preparing you for Thanksgiving in Detroit, which is I think,
in addition to Saint Patrick's Day, the biggest days of
the year.

Speaker 6 (02:12:53):
But I'm a little bit biased. It's a huge, huge
day and.

Speaker 11 (02:12:57):
We're thankful for the appearance of Claude Malini, the president.

Speaker 6 (02:13:01):
And CEO of Visit Detroit, who's on our radio stage
right now. Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Speaker 18 (02:13:07):
How do you Thanksgiving?

Speaker 36 (02:13:08):
Michael Patrick Shields.

Speaker 11 (02:13:10):
The pictures from the hob novel Gobble were super cool,
but now we turn it over to the streets, and
we thought you could give us a little bit of
a primer on how to properly do this, because when
it comes to Thanksgiving in Detroit, we've got an early
morning start if you want it, followed by some entertainment
on Woodward, followed by oh, a little game at Ford Field.

(02:13:33):
What is the timing of all of it? How does
it stretch out on Thursday.

Speaker 36 (02:13:37):
Well, the Detroit dominates Thanksgiving like no other city on
the planet, I think. I mean he starts with we
have the Strategic Staff Solutions Turkey Trot, which kicks off
at seven am with the first Mash Potato Mile, and
then you have the ten k race and the five
k could probably be about twenty five thousand people in

(02:13:58):
that race. And then five You've got the ninety ninth
Annual America's Thanksgiving Day Parade, presented by Gardner White, which
is going right down Woodward and it ends at the River.
And then right after that at one o'clock, you got
the Detroit Lions, where the entire world, the nation is
going to be watching Detroit as we take on those

(02:14:18):
hated Green Bay Packers. It's going to be a spectacular
Thanksgiving in Detroit.

Speaker 11 (02:14:24):
Hey, you know, some of my favorite memories of my
life have taken place at that Turkey Trot in the morning.
And then I actually was lucky enough to play a
clown one time in the parade and toss out candy
with my son when we were there with the it
was the Marriotte Afloat. When we were it was monkeys
jumping on a bed and it was so much fun

(02:14:45):
and so sweet. And then of course the Lions game.
And you've got football all weekend too. If it isn't
the Lions, you've got Michigan State on Saturday and the
high schools on Friday and Sunday.

Speaker 36 (02:14:57):
Yes, plus you've also got those warl facing that team
from the down South.

Speaker 22 (02:15:02):
I can't remember their.

Speaker 36 (02:15:03):
Name, but that's a big game of two apparently for
our Wolverines. But yeah, it's a huge football weekend in
high school football. And of course, you know, I love
my whole family does the Turkey Trot on Thursday morning.
And what's fun about that is you basically run the
parade route, so it's like being in a major, you know,
championship race because it's lined with crowds cheering you on.

(02:15:25):
So it's a great morning and certainly really shows that
Detroit has a very different destination anywhere else to have
all these things taking place one after another after another.
I mean by three o'clock in the afternoon, most people
are exhausted.

Speaker 11 (02:15:40):
Well yeah, and I didn't run in the trot. I
would walk in the Trot every year. But it was
so festive because everyone, as you say, is cheering you on.
And people of all types and costumes and everything are
running along and walking along, and you get a tour
of the city all the way up to the DA
and back and through the street, and there's music playing

(02:16:01):
and it's really really, really fun and it ends up
right on the river and then you're right in good
position to start watching the parade too, and all the
volunteers and the people that make the city shine on
a morning like that, Plus you get your steps in
before you eat, and of course the game it's like
a big college campus almost Detroit on that day.

Speaker 6 (02:16:22):
Wouldn't you say that's a great point.

Speaker 36 (02:16:25):
I love that analogy. It really is. And there's thousands
of people everywhere, and you know, just think about the
parade has over a thousand volunteers, and Tony Michael's and
his team does a great job. And of course Mayor
Douggan is signing off as the grand Marshal for the
parade along with local for anchor Devin Skillion. So you've
got to just all the makings of a fantastic day

(02:16:47):
and hopefully our Lions will come out with a big
victory and will be on our way.

Speaker 11 (02:16:53):
Mayor Mike dug In the outgoing mayor is the Grand
Marshall TV anchor Devin Scillion. In the past, you've had
Martha Reeves and Jim Leland and Essential Workers and Jim Nantz.
Of course, our friend was the Grand Marshall in one
of the years. So it's been a really, really fun time.
And the speaking of that, the JP McCarthy show, I

(02:17:15):
Think Before You Got Here was for thirty years number
one in Detroit, and I was the producer of that show,
and we would broadcast the parade, you know, on radio,
and there would be a reviewing stand and this famous
clip we play on Thanksgiving just to sort of remind
you that it was. It was a cheeky moment when
Paul Kerrey, who was the Detroit Tigers color commentator, looked

(02:17:39):
down the street as the floats were coming by, and
he saw a troop of Pom Pom girls that were
singing along to a song that was playing, and he
described it like this.

Speaker 10 (02:17:53):
Joe, I had no idea that Pom Pom girls could
be so delightful or really.

Speaker 6 (02:18:00):
Well.

Speaker 44 (02:18:02):
They certainly are very attractive and they sound good.

Speaker 11 (02:18:05):
The Joltine McCarthy, who went into the Radio Hall of Fame,
was almost speechless on that one, Claude Mullinary. I also
want to remind you probably know that you can, so
you can get into the Spartan game and bring your
family on Saturday night. We're told by buying one ticket
you'll get three.

Speaker 36 (02:18:24):
I believe if you buy two you get too free.
But anyway you slice it, that's a good deal. And
you know, our Spartans could really use the support. So
if if you're free on Saturday night, I want to
root on our Spartans at a beautiful indoor, warm stadium.
It's probably a nice fun night.

Speaker 6 (02:18:43):
Yeah, no question about it.

Speaker 11 (02:18:45):
And I think you know, the campus at Thanksgiving time
in East Lansing would be very quiet because the kids
are away and many of them are home in Detroit anyway,
So it seems like a good idea to.

Speaker 6 (02:18:54):
Me, and plenty to do, all right.

Speaker 11 (02:18:57):
And by the way, there's lots of free parking, as
we understand too. On certain days through downtown Detroit. You're
really rolling out the red carpet.

Speaker 6 (02:19:04):
Aren't you.

Speaker 36 (02:19:06):
Well, you know Detroit is we're setting up our own
little Christmas town right now. We've got all kinds of
open air stuff. The ice rink is now open at
at Campus, Marshes and the Cadillac Square and Deacon Parked.
There's activations going on and you can do your holiday shopping,
and I just think there's a lot of fun stuff
and Detroit continues to reinvent itself. And of course I

(02:19:28):
would be remiss if I didn't mention Hudson's and the
new Alley at Hudsons. You know, that is just a
spectacular place with the bear. I was running by there
the other day and there was a huge line of
people ready to take their selfies.

Speaker 11 (02:19:44):
It's fantastic downtown Detroit and the very festive Claude Moulinari
the ambassador for the d to the world and to
us around the state. Happy Thanksgiving from Michael Patrick Shields.

Speaker 32 (02:20:00):
His announcing plans to invest as much as fifty billion
dollars on AI infrastructure to support US government agencies. Here's
Jim Reroupe.

Speaker 33 (02:20:07):
The investment will allow agencies to access Amazon Web services,
AI tools, anthropics, Claude family of models, and Nvidia chips,
as well as Amazon's custom Trainium AI chips. The project
is set to break ground in twenty twenty six, and
it's expected to add one point three gigawatts of capacity
across new data centers. The move follows similar announcements from

(02:20:27):
Anthropic and Meta to expand AI data centers here.

Speaker 6 (02:20:30):
In the US, President.

Speaker 32 (02:20:32):
Donald Trump reportedly pausing an executive order regarding AI regulation.
Wheer says the effort to go after state level AI
regulation faced opposition from some Republicans. Last week, reports spread
that Trump was ready to sue states or cut off
federal broadband funding if states like California regulated AI, and
newly released court documents suggests that Meta halted internal research
that showed people became less deppressed when they stopped using

(02:20:54):
Facebook Tech report a Markeneyfield.

Speaker 12 (02:20:58):
Michigan's Big Show, I'm starring Michael Patrick Shields.

Speaker 11 (02:21:02):
Do you get many knocks on doors, Matt Hall, Speaker
of the House from candidates for governor who wonder if
you might like to be their running mate?

Speaker 25 (02:21:10):
No, I don't.

Speaker 22 (02:21:10):
What I'm trying to do as a speaker is to
be a resource to all the candidates and to help
them develop their platforms. We've got a lot of changes.
You talked about what the business leaders from Michigan thinks.
We got a lot of work to do. We gotta
start early.

Speaker 11 (02:21:24):
I think one of My favorite memories of the Thanksgiving
Day parade in Detroit is I took my son Harrison
downtown the night before to see the rat Pack show,
and we stayed overnight right there in that Renaissance Center.
And now this is something you can relate to. Imagine
you did this with Josh Okay. Tony Cuthbert took him
down there, saw the rat Pack show at the Gem Theater,

(02:21:46):
stayed overnight in the hotel way up high overlooking the river.
Was an exciting thing. And in the morning, I get
them dressed and I say, come on, we're gonna go.

Speaker 6 (02:21:54):
See the parade. Mm hmm okay.

Speaker 11 (02:21:57):
So I take them across the street to the one
Woodward building. We go in and check in at a table,
and he's like, what's this all about? They take us
up and they put us in costuming, and before he
knew what was going on, they put him in a
clown costume and me in a clown costume to be
in the parade with the Marriott people.

Speaker 6 (02:22:15):
In the float.

Speaker 11 (02:22:17):
And as they're putting makeup on his face, the little
kid looks over at me and says, dad, how could
you do this to me?

Speaker 6 (02:22:27):
Oh?

Speaker 12 (02:22:27):
I love that that is just so fantastic and it's
a lifetime memory now and I'm sure he is so
grateful for it. Did he say that when you guys
went to the rap Pack show as well?

Speaker 6 (02:22:36):
Dad?

Speaker 52 (02:22:36):
What is.

Speaker 11 (02:22:38):
Probably under his breath, like you know, was he was
still precious, but almost teen, and so it was a
good age. And then you know, we gave they gave
us a bunch of candy to pass out to people,
and so I think he started liking that as we
made our way down the parade route throwing and passing
out candy and and dressed up like clowns, and so yeah,

(02:22:59):
that was that was pretty cool.

Speaker 6 (02:23:01):
How could you do this to me?

Speaker 11 (02:23:05):
Anyhow? It's Thanksgiving? David Hall at Hall Financial. If you're
going to spend money Black Friday shopping, let's just think
about your finances. Think about the fact that your home
has money in it that you can easily get access
to as a loan.

Speaker 6 (02:23:22):
And also, if you're.

Speaker 11 (02:23:23):
Thinking of buying or selling, start with David Hall Hall
Financial eight six six, call Hall and call Hall First
dot Com makes it easy, a five minute mortgage review
and I've done it, believe me.

Speaker 6 (02:23:35):
It's as simple as.

Speaker 11 (02:23:37):
It sounds, and you'll know, and you can proceed from
there and within a week you can have.

Speaker 6 (02:23:42):
Access to your equity. However you choose to do it.
Eight sixty six, Call Hall or Call Hall.

Speaker 7 (02:23:47):
First NBC News Radio, I'm Michael Casner. Attorney General Pam
Bondi says she will appeal after the criminal indictments against
New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director

(02:24:10):
James Comy were dismissed by a federal judge.

Speaker 30 (02:24:13):
Will be taking all available legal action, including an immediate appeal,
to hold Letitia James and James Comy accountable for their
unlawful conduct.

Speaker 7 (02:24:24):
Both claimed the appointment of Lindsay Halligan as the US
Attorney for the Eastern District while was unlawful. Komy was
indicted for allegedly lying to Congress about the Trump Russia investigation,
while James was indicted for mortgage fraud. Bondi said all
available action would be taken. Comy released a video saying
President Trump can't use the Justice Department to target his

(02:24:45):
political enemies.

Speaker 31 (02:24:47):
I know that Donald Trump will probably come after me again,
and my attitude is going to be the same. I'm innocent,
i am not afraid, and I believe in an independent
federal judiciary.

Speaker 7 (02:24:58):
Comy also said the case again since tim was a
prosecution based on malevolence and in competence. James issued his
statement saying she's heartened by the victory and once again
called the charges baseless. President Trump assigned an executive order
that would allow his administration to designate certain chapters of
the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations. More from Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 32 (02:25:19):
The order gives direction to Secretary of State Marco Rubio
and Treasury Secretary Scott Presant to figure out if any
chapters should receive the designation. This move would allow for
increased sanctions as well as more power to disrupt financial support.
A White House factshoot on the order said that the
goal of it was to eliminate the designated chapter's capabilities
and operations and then to deprive them of resources.

Speaker 7 (02:25:42):
Today, it will be one of the busiest days on
the road for Thanksgiving travelers. According to Triple A, Tomorrow
will also see millions on the road. Some seventy three
million people are expected to drive to their holiday destination.
Michael Kasner and BC News Radio.

Speaker 27 (02:25:56):
Health officials are raising concerns as the flu is spread
earlier than usual in some parts of the country. Some
infectious disease specialists have already noted a sharp increase in
flu cases over the past few weeks, as a form
of the virus called H three and two subclate k
has set off massive outbreaks in Canada and the UK.

(02:26:17):
According to the CDC, most of the flu circulating so
far this season in the US is the H three
N two strain, which can cause more hospitalizations and deaths
and older adults. The concerns come as millions of Americans
prepared to travel and to gather for Thanksgiving and other
upcoming holidays. COVID nineteen cases are climbing or likely to

(02:26:40):
climb in nineteen states, including Texas, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Colorado.
That's according to the CDC, which is recommending COVID shots
for those six months in older using a decision making
approach that weighs personal risk.

Speaker 28 (02:26:54):
Health Update. I'm Sarah Lee Kessler.

Speaker 9 (02:27:03):
Over the river, through.

Speaker 42 (02:27:04):
The horses away to carry this life through the.

Speaker 51 (02:27:10):
Over the river, through the woods.

Speaker 42 (02:27:14):
It stings the toes and bites the noses, over the ground.

Speaker 11 (02:27:18):
Andrew Bood can come right into your smartphone or your
laptop or your tablets, or however you choose to get him.

Speaker 6 (02:27:26):
Oh yeah, I know.

Speaker 11 (02:27:27):
He's the powerful attorney from East Lansing and the legacy
of attorneys and his family. But he's also a podcaster
and it's called the A List Hour. That's what you
do wherever you get your podcasts. If you put in
the A List Hour Andrew Bood, you will find the
people that he's been interviewing so far. You can watch it,

(02:27:49):
you can listen to it, however you choose to consume it.
And he's on our radio stage right now. We have
not sworn you in counselor so you can tell stories
that are true or not true if you But your
whole idea of getting people in front of you on
camera and on the microphone is to get them to
open up and sometimes tell how they became for instance,

(02:28:11):
Curtis Rtel or whomever you might be interviewing, including yourself.

Speaker 6 (02:28:15):
True, that's true.

Speaker 18 (02:28:18):
A lot of people have you know, come to lancing
and made lancing their career, whether it's you know Lancing
or East Lancing, and many of them have very interesting stories.
And so I mean that's sort of one of the
overriding themes of the podcast.

Speaker 11 (02:28:41):
What have you learned in the time you've been doing
these podcasts about being an interview versus being somebody who
questions or cross examines a witness.

Speaker 18 (02:28:52):
Now, one thing for certain is that there is a
certain amount of drive and planning an intention. But a
lot of people's success is often a matter of chance
or circumstance, and you know, an opportunity is presented in
front of them, and you know, they never thought that

(02:29:15):
it would be turned into a career, and the next
thing you know, they've done it for thirty or forty years,
including by example, Tim Stout and Sherry Jones or I'm
sure you know both of them very well.

Speaker 11 (02:29:29):
I'm going to play a couple of clips for you
here that have to do with the interviewing process, the
hosting of a radio show, which is essentially what you're
doing in these conversations. They're kind of intimate and personal
conversations as you get people to open up. Let's begin
with Larry King, who was on radio before he was
on television, but like you would sit across the table

(02:29:52):
across the microphone from his guests. Here's what he said
about hosting a radio show slash podcast.

Speaker 24 (02:29:58):
The Good interviewer must listen. Too many interviewers interview themselves.
The key to to a good interviewing style is short questions.
Leave yourself out of it. I has no place in
an interview. There's no place. It's irrelevant. The guest counts.

Speaker 6 (02:30:13):
Your reaction.

Speaker 18 (02:30:15):
I mean I think that's I think that's I mean simple, simple,
simple questions and open and broad in the whole of
the interviewer. Now, as you know, not every interviewer you
know will take the ball and run with it, and
so sometimes you've got to have follow up. But I
also think once in a while, I mean, if you

(02:30:38):
look at some of the great podcasters, you know, it
helps the interview process if the interviewer can relate. And
so a little bit of I is okay. I think
you see that, whether you like him or not politically,
was Rogan who seems to you know, tells tell us

(02:31:02):
something about himself in the manner in which he interviews guests.

Speaker 11 (02:31:07):
Sometimes he talks more than the guests, seems like, and
he goes.

Speaker 18 (02:31:12):
Yeah he does, he does well. I mean he thinks
this show is talking to me. You learn a lot
about the guests because I think Rogan opens up and
therefore the whole guest opens up, you know, and it's
sort of a it's a very relaxed format.

Speaker 11 (02:31:28):
How he goes three hours. How long are your the
A list hour podcasts.

Speaker 18 (02:31:35):
Usually just over an hour someplace around an hour hour
or so. It's sometimes isn't enough depending on the guests,
but he kind of sort of be organized and kind
of grind through it all.

Speaker 11 (02:31:51):
Let's listen now to Kate Blanchett, who was in the
movie Tar and said this about questions and answers.

Speaker 41 (02:32:00):
He's not pretending he's certain about anything.

Speaker 6 (02:32:04):
Because he knows that it's always the question that improves.

Speaker 27 (02:32:07):
The listener's the answer right now, the big question for you.

Speaker 6 (02:32:16):
Is what do you think?

Speaker 11 (02:32:18):
Not certain about anything? And knows that it's the question
that brings the listener in, not the answer.

Speaker 18 (02:32:26):
I mean, the question is often interesting and with great
examinations that I've seen in court before. You know, the
lawyer often when you're listening as an observer, you often
want to say, yeah, I want to know the answer
to that question, and you know, and then you think

(02:32:48):
you've got to figure it out, and then the lawyer
asks another question, goes, well, wait a minute, I want
to know the answer to that question, and then you know,
and so you know to the extent that you could
compare this to what's happening in a courtroom, I mean
in making it interesting. You know that, to me is

(02:33:08):
the epitome of the great host is a listener who says,
oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Wait a minute, I want to
know the answer to that question.

Speaker 11 (02:33:19):
It's called the A List Hour podcast by Andrew Bood.
Wherever you get your podcasts, you can get them from
Spotlight Media Studios as well. Here's former Governor George Romney
speaking to JP McCarthy.

Speaker 35 (02:33:32):
The reason you're so popular, so influential is that you're
serving others by making them better known and more influential.
And you don't bait them, and you don't belittle limbland,
and you help them to put their best foot forward,
and that's a great thing.

Speaker 11 (02:33:47):
Are you throwing out any banana peels for your guests
to slip on? Andrew boot in the A List Hour.

Speaker 18 (02:33:53):
Well, you know he's going out too. And I'm not
aware of any moments where anybo has been embarrassed. And
we often ask almost all of our guests, we ask,
is there anything in there you want us to cut
out into a tea. There's nobody that suggested that any
moment has has crossed the line or a bit of

(02:34:17):
thumb or anybody else. So I mean it's really about
that and making them look good and getting allowed people
to you know, know that. You know, you may be
walking around Lancing and you may not feel like it's
a special place, but there's a lot of special people
who have been not only successful but live very interesting.

Speaker 6 (02:34:38):
Lise, do you ever feel as if your guests are nervous?

Speaker 18 (02:34:46):
I think, I mean, if they are, then shame on me.
I have not got that feeling. But I think may
be surprised, maybe a little surprise that not only did
we cover a whole hour talking about them, but maybe
I've seen them get a little emotional. Even Mike Nichols

(02:35:10):
got a little choked up, and you know when they're
talking about their own moments in life, and you know,
as a post you want to not only show actually
what somebody's life is about, but maybe they're emotional side.
So if you can get them to show a little emotion,

(02:35:32):
it seems to be a better interview.

Speaker 11 (02:35:36):
The A List Hour with Andrew a Boot available wherever
your podcasts are and he just gave you a teaser
right there. Why did Mike Nichols get emotional? Listen and
find out and we will too, And we'll be playing
clips on this program every day. From the A List
Hour with Andrew Aboot, It's Michael Patrick Shields. Have you

(02:35:58):
ever wondered why health insurance
