radio in Lancing starting in a few days, it'll be
Lancing seven thirty am, where you will hear us on

three to six pm. So when you're picking your kids
up from school, or you're driving home from work, or
you're going out for the evening or wherever you may
(02:20):

Lansing area on Lancing seven thirty am is where you

So in other words, you look over there and you say, oh.
Speaker 7 (03:22):
Wow, there's an interview with Andrew Abood.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
I like to hear what he's up got to say,
and you click on that and you can listen to
it and you can share it through social media, etc.
And so forth. So we're extremely accessible to you on
the radio, which we love and also streaming audio and podcasting.
But just to repeat one more time, if you're listening
in Lancing and you tune in and you say, wait,
what happened? They're talking about sports? Now what happened to MPs?
(03:48):
Just switch over to Lancing seven thirty am is what
it's called, and we will be on from three until
six pm every weekday on the radio in Lancing. With
a great radio tradition. I started off listening to Larry
King Overnight. That was his theme song there, I think
that was his television theme song. He was a great
(04:09):
radio star on the Mutual Broadcasting System before he hit television.
Speaker 7 (04:19):
From the nation's capital.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
It was Larry King and he was on overnight. He
interview someone for an hour, then take calls for an
hour with that guest, and then he would take the
wildest calls you ever imagined from all across America and
his overnight show.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
And of course why was I listening to that?
Speaker 6 (04:42):
Well, I had been up listening late to the Tiger
Games with Ernie Harwell and Detroit and you had to
hear something after that. Jay Roberts with night Flight seven
sixty was on after the Tiger Games. Usually that was
on WJR. And that was a man who would pretend
he was an airline pilot.
Speaker 7 (04:59):
No, no, Joe. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
He would start the show as if you were taken
off and he would say, tonight we're going to be
flying over Grand Rapids and then Chicago, and then we'll
make our way out toward Denver, cruising down into Phoenix,
and he would give it just like an airline pilot.
He would ask you to buckle up your seat belt.
He would play music through the night, and he would
let you know where you were and it was like
(05:20):
you were buckled into an overnight flight. Radio was so
creative back in the day. So that's what got me
enchanted by it. And then in the mornings, well that
was a whole different matter.
Speaker 7 (05:31):
That was funny people.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
And Jim and Jerre, Jim Harper and Jerry Saint James
were the morning show hosts on WNIC and they used
to say we're unique WNIC and it came from Dearborn, Michigan.
And then Jerry left, Jim and went to Jeff and
it was Jeff Elliott and Jerry Saint James and they
were on w MJC Magic ninety five it was called
(05:56):
which went on to become WCSX, And anyway, they were
charming to me. And of course I was fully aware
of JP McCarthy as well, because he was the giant
and Dick Perton was the other giant in Detroit. Dick
Perton was a funny man. JP was funny in his way,
but he was sort of the show of record, the
news anchor, the man for more than thirty years, was
(06:18):
number one in Michigan. He won the Marconi Award and
well every award you could ever want to give out,
and was a very charitable fellow too. But all of
this radio in Detroit was super enchanting, not to mention
the likes of Arthur Penthallow, who would be so excited
that it was the weekend that he'd have to scream
it out on WRIF and well, even Howard Stern did
(06:40):
some time in Detroit at WWWW suficial.
Speaker 8 (06:44):
It's the weekend.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
There's Arthur Penthallo. Anyway, can you imagine being a young
person and hearing all of these magical voices, and you know,
I'm even forget There was Dick the Bruiser and all
the rest of that too, and so I I just wondered,
can you make a living in radio? Can you really
do that? And I saw a newspaper article that Jeff
and Jerr were considered to be by critics, not by ratings,
(07:11):
the best show from an independent group that came out.
So I said, I'm going to call them, and I
asked him, right when they got off the air, can
I ask you a few questions. I'm just a high
school kid. And they said, come on into the station.
We'll answer all the questions you want. I said, I'm
going into a radio station, and I.
Speaker 7 (07:31):
Did, and they did, and here we are today.
Speaker 6 (07:36):
I can't even believe it that I got that big break.
And then I got to work for Dick Pertin as
an intern and J. P. McCarthy as a producer, and
Jimmy Launce and all the others too, And what a career.
Speaker 7 (07:48):
It has been.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
A room with access to some of the great people,
the great voices of all time.
Speaker 9 (07:53):
I'll get this sweet old turkey on the road in a.
Speaker 7 (07:56):
Minute, yep.
Speaker 6 (07:57):
And he had the Michiganio State Tailgate Show, which was
a big tradition, and of course the Saint Patrick's Day Show,
and we try to honor some of those still quarter
of a century later on the great radio station you're
listening to all right now, including Lancing seven thirty am
in afternoon Drive starting soon so you will find us
(08:20):
there and always at MIBiG show dot com. And also
thanks to CMU where I did one year on the
radio there in the mornings WMHW ninety one Rock. But
here we are now on Michigan's Big Show starring Michael
Patrick Shields across Michigan and beyond. Michael Patrick Shields Is

Speaker 14 (12:19):
That's entertainment. I'm Jacqueline carl.
Speaker 7 (12:24):
Hello Detroit.
Speaker 15 (12:28):
One, you REVERSI Waterfronts, give you a plar of you.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
We're preparing you for Thanksgiving in Detroit, which is I
think in addition to Saint Patrick's Day, the biggest days
of the year. But I'm a little bit biased. It's
a huge, huge day and we're thankful for the appearance
of Claude Mollinari, the president and CEO of Visit Detroit,
who's on our radio stage right now. Happy Thanksgiving to you.
Speaker 9 (13:01):
Every Thanksgiving. Michael Pachtershields.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
The pictures from the hob novel Gobble were super cool,
but now we turn it over to the streets, and
we thought you could give us a little bit of
a primer on how to properly do this, because when
it comes to Thanksgiving in Detroit, we've got an early
morning start if you want it, followed by some entertainment
on Woodward, followed by oh, a little game at Ford Field.
(13:27):
What is the timing of all of it? How does
it stretch out on Thursday?
Speaker 9 (13:31):
Well, the Detroit dominates Thanksgiving like no other city on
the planet, I think. I mean he starts with we
have the strategic staff and Solutions Turkey Trot, which kicks
off at seven am with the first mashed Potato mile,
and then you have the ten k race and the
five k could probably be about twenty five thousand people
(13:51):
in that race. And then at eight forty five you've
got the ninety ninth Annual America's Thanksgiving Day Prey presented
by Gardner, which is going right down Woodward and it
ends at the River. And then right after that at
one o'clock, you got the Detroit Lions, where the entire world,
the nition is going to be watching Detroit. Has you
take on those hated Green Bay Packers. It's going to
(14:14):
be a spectacular Thanksgiving in Detroit.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Hey, you know, some of my favorite memories of my
life have taken place at that turkey trot in the morning.
And then I actually was lucky enough to play a
clown one time in the parade and toss out candy
with my son when we were there with the it
was the Marriotte Afloat. It was monkeys jumping on a bed.
(14:37):
It was so much fun and so sweet. And then
of course the Lions game. And you've got football all
weekend too. If it isn't the Lions, you've got Michigan
State on Saturday and the high schools on Friday and Sunday.
Speaker 9 (14:51):
Yes, plus we've also got those Wolverines facing that team
from the down South. I can't remember their name, but
that's a big game of two apparently for a wol Yeah,
it's a huge football weekend in high school football. And
of course, you know, I love my whole family does
the Turkey Trot on Thursday morning. And what's fun about
that is you basically run the parade route. So it's
(15:13):
like being in a major, you know, championship race because
it's a line of crowds cheering you on. So it's
a great morning and certainly really shows that Detroit has
a very different destination anywhere else to have all these
things taking place one after another after another. I mean,
by like three o'clock in the afternoon, most people are exhausted.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
Well yeah, and I didn't run in the trot. I
would walk in the trot every year. But it was
so festive because everyone, as you say, is cheering you on,
and people of all types and costumes and everything are
running along and walking along, and you get a tour
of the city all the way up to the DA
and back and through the streets, and there's music playing,
(15:55):
and it's it's really really really fun, and it ends
up right on the river and then you're right in
good position to start watching the parade too, and all
the volunteers and the people that make the city shine
on a morning like that, plus you get your steps
in before you eat, and of course the game. It's
like a big college campus almost Detroit on that day.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
Wouldn't you say that's a great point.
Speaker 9 (16:18):
I love that analogy.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
It really is.
Speaker 9 (16:20):
And there's thousands of people everywhere, and you know, just
think about the parade has over a thousand volunteers, and
Tony Michael's and his team does a great job. And
of course Mayor Duggan is signing off as the Grand
Marshal for the parade along with local for anchor Devin Skillion.
So you've got to just all the makings of a
fantastic day and hopefully our Lions will come out with
(16:43):
a big victory and we'll be on our way.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
Mayor Mike dug In the outgoing mayor is the Grand
marshall TV anchor Devin Scillion. In the past, you've had
Martha Reeves and Jim Leland and essentral workers and Jim Nantz.
Of course, our friend was the Grand Marshal in one
of the years. So it's been a really really fun
time and the speaking of that. The JP McCarthy show
(17:09):
I Think Before You Got Here was for thirty years
number one in Detroit, and I was the producer of
that show, and we would broadcast the parade, you know,
on radio, and there would be a reviewing stand and
this famous clip we play on Thanksgiving just to sort
of remind you.
Speaker 16 (17:25):
That it was.
Speaker 6 (17:27):
It was a cheeky moment when Paul Carey, who was
the Detroit Tigers color commentator, looked down the street as
the floats were coming by, and he saw a troop
of Pom Pom girls that were singing along to a
song that was playing, and he described it like this.
Speaker 17 (17:46):
Joe, I had no idea that Pom Pom girls could
be so delightful.
Speaker 18 (17:51):
Orally basically are very attractive and they sound good.
Speaker 7 (17:59):
They all came.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
Karthy, who went into the Radio Hall of Fame, was
almost speechless on that one. Claude Culinary also want to
remind you probably know that you can so you can
get into the Spartan game and bring your family on
Saturday night. We're told by buying one ticket you'll get three.
Speaker 9 (18:18):
I believe if you buy two and you get too free.
But anyway you slice it. That's a good deal and
you know, our Spartans could really use the support. So
if you're free on Saturday night, I want to read
on our Spartans ade a beautiful indoor, warm stadium. It's
probably a nice fun night.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Yeah, no question about it. And I think you know,
the campus at Thanksgiving time in East Lansing would be
very quiet because the kids are away and many of
them are home in Detroit anyway, So it seems like
a good idea to me, and plenty to do, all right.
And by the way, there's lots of free parking as
we understand too. On certain days through downtown Detroit. You're
really rolling out the red carpet.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
Aren't you.
Speaker 9 (18:59):
Well know Detroit is we're setting up our own little
Christmas town right now. We's got all kinds of open
air stuff. The ice rink is now open at Campus
Marshes and the Cadillac Square and Beacon parked. There's activations
going on and you can do your holiday shopping. And
I just think there's a lot of fun stuff and
Detroit continues to reinvent itself. And of course I would
(19:22):
be remiss if I didn't mention Hudson's and the new
alley at Hudsons. You know, that is just a spectacular
place with the bear. I was running by there the
other day and there was a huge line of people
ready to take their selfies.
Speaker 6 (19:37):
It's fantastic downtown Detroit and the very festive Claude Molinari,
the ambassador for the d to the world and to
us around the state. Happy Thanksgiving for Michael Patrick Shields.
Speaker 19 (19:53):
Health officials are wasting concerns as the flu is spreading
earlier than usual in some parts of the country. Some
infectious to cease lists have already noted a sharp increase
in flu cases over the past few weeks, as a
form of the virus called H three and two subclate
k has set off massive outbreaks in Canada and the UK.
According to the CDC, most of the flu circulating so
(20:16):
far this season in the US is the H three
N two strain, which can cause more hospitalizations and deaths
and older adults. The concerns come as millions of Americans
prepared to travel and together for Thanksgiving and other upcoming holidays.
COVID nineteen cases are climbing or likely to climb in
nineteen states, including Texas, Michigan, Massachusetts and Colorado. That's according
(20:40):
to the CDC, which is recommending COVID shots for those
six months in older using a decision making approach that
weighs personal risk.
Speaker 11 (20:48):

Michigan's Big Show starring Michael Patrick Shields.
Speaker 6 (20:56):
Why would you say, jas Boulger, West Michigan is such
a desirable place to live and work.
Speaker 20 (21:01):
I think it's because the opportunities that are created by
the private investments, those families that are dedicated to growing
their business. And the first key to good philanthropy is
rich of Olsoum said.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Is so successful business.
Speaker 20 (21:13):
You can't do philanthropy without successful business.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has a headquarters in

they also have Detroit headquarters in the Renaissance Center and
on Lafayette There that's where you might find Andy Hetzel,
the vice president of corporate Communications. He talks with us
regularly and he publishes blue Daily dot com and we
(22:01):
talk sometimes about the price of prescription drugs, and not surprisingly,
we learn from Andy Hutzel, competition among drug makers is
a good thing.
Speaker 21 (22:13):
Competition, as we all know, lowers price. The more competitors
that you have selling a product, the more choice there
is in the market, and that choice lowers prices. Companies
compete on price, and that is not what's happening in
the prescription drug space right now for a lot of
drugs that are granted these patent monopolies ten fifteen years
(22:35):
or more, and until the government reforms that practice and
allows competition to get to the market faster, we at
Blue Cross want to do what we can to innovate
biosimilar We intend to introduce more as these high cost
drugs come off of patent.
Speaker 22 (22:51):
In the future.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
In the Detroit area. In Rochester, Michigan, you find Oakland University.

Speaker 23 (23:53):
NBC News Radio. I'm Michael Kassner. Attorney General Pam Bondi
says she will appeal after the criminal indictments against New
York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James
Comy were dismissed by a federal judge.
Speaker 24 (24:06):
Will be taking all available legal action, including an immediate appeal,
to hold Letitia James and James Comey accountable for their
unlawful conduct.
Speaker 23 (24:17):
Both claimed the appointment of Lindsay Halligan as the US
Attorney for the Eastern District while was unlawful. Cooney was
indicted for allegedly lying to Congress about the Trump Russia
investigation while James was indicted for mortgage fraud. Bondy said
all available action would be taken. Comeey released a video
saying President Trump can't use the Justice Department to target
(24:38):
his political enemies.
Speaker 25 (24:40):
I know that Donald Trump will probably come after me again,
and my attitude's going to be the same. I'm innocent,
i am not afraid, and I believe in an independent
federal judiciary.
Speaker 23 (24:51):
Comy also said the case against him was a prosecution
based on malevolence and in competence. James issued a statement
saying she's heartened by the victory, once again called the
charges baseless. President Trump assigned an executive order that would
allow his administration to designate certain chapters of the Muslim
Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations.
Speaker 26 (25:10):
More from Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 16 (25:12):
The order gives direction to Secretary of State Marco Rubio
and Treasury Secretary of Scott Present to figure out if
any chapters should receive the designation. This move would allow
for increased sanctions as well as more power to disrupt
financial support.
Speaker 18 (25:26):
A White House factshoot on the order said.
Speaker 16 (25:27):
That the goal of it was to eliminate the designated
chapter's capabilities and operations, and then to deprive them of resources.
Speaker 23 (25:35):
Today, it will be one of the busiest days on
the road for Thanksgiving travelers. According to Triple A, Tomorrow
will also see millions on the road. Some seventy three
million people are expected to drive to their holiday destination.

Amazon has announcing plans to invest as much as fifty
billion dollars on AI infrastructure to support US government agencies.
Speaker 18 (25:56):
Here's Jim Roupe.
Speaker 27 (25:57):
The investment will allow agencies to access ms on web services,
AI tools, Anthropics, Claude family of models, and Nvidia chips,
as well as Amazon's custom Trainium AI chips. The project
is set to break ground in twenty twenty six, and
it's expected to add one point three giggle watts of
capacity across new data centers. The move followed similar announcements
(26:18):
from Anthropic and Meta to expand AI data centers here.
Speaker 16 (26:21):
In the US, President Donald Trump reportedly pausing an executive
order regarding AI regulation, Whereas since the effort to state
level AI regulation faced opposition from some Republicans. Last week,
reports spread that Trump was ready to sue states or
come off federal broadband funding if states like California regulated AI.

Speaker 6 (27:07):
The noses over the ground, turkey and cranberry and stuffing
and mashed potatoes and gravy and sweet potatoes and corn
and pumpkin pie with whipped cream on top. And probably
there's a football game, so there might be some tortilla
chips and potato chips and pretzels, and oh maybe some
(27:30):
chip dip or some Caeso dip possibly, and how about
some beer on top of all that, or maybe.
Speaker 7 (27:37):
Some veno Ah shucks. It's the holidays and that kind
of eating.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Well, I don't know if Thanksgiving time is a time

any of the holidays. Hanika, you name it, But doctor

(28:08):
little east of one twenty seven and back on our
airwaves right now. And I'm understanding that some of these
weight loss drugs that you've been telling us about for
the last year or two are now slimming down their prices.
Speaker 7 (28:22):
Is that true, Michael? That is true.
Speaker 28 (28:25):
You know, the the pharmaceutical companies that make these medications,
there's really two big ones, Nova Nova Disk and Eli
Lilly have been dropping the prices consistently over the last year.
They succumb to some pressure from the president's President Trump
to make some significant reductions. And now we're able to
(28:46):
get from the manufacturer the actual name brand weight loss
drug will go be or Ozempe for diabetas first two
months for just one hundred and forty nine dollars a month.
Speaker 7 (29:01):
It's really you say, forty nine dollars a month debt.
Speaker 28 (29:05):
For two months and then it goes to three forty
nine ongoing and destructure twelve hundred dollars a month a
year ago. So that is the impact that is going on.
And you know, what we're finding is that there are
many patients who want to try these meditations, but they
don't know how to do it. They don't understand the
(29:28):
pros and the cons That's what we do at Wycoff Wellness.
We help guide you through that process. We get the
appropriate laboratory work to follow up the support you need.
And when I'm going to offer any listeners today, if
they call our office and schedule an appointment, I'll give
them twenty percent off their initial consultation, whether it's a
(29:51):
new patient or an established patient, twenty percent off and
we can get you started that day actually with a
free one month supply of ozempi, and then you can
get the next two months for just one ninety nine
a month.
Speaker 18 (30:10):
So we can help you do that.
Speaker 28 (30:11):
We do it every day. That's what we do at
Wycoff Wellness. Gets you on that path to health and
wellness naturally and now you can lose weight and the
same money.
Speaker 6 (30:20):
Are you saying, Doctor John Wycoff at the Wycoff Wellness
Center that if somebody hears this and they or maybe
they wait till after Thanksgiving, you know, right after, and
they get impulsive and they say, all right, damn it,
I see everybody looking good. I'm gonna do it myself.
They can come in and get started the day they
get into your office.
Speaker 28 (30:39):
The day they arrive, we usually have them self administer
of their first injection that day. So I'm sure, one
hundred percent sure you understand exactly how to do it.
We try to take away all the fear, all the
trumpidation and get you on that path to wellness that day.
Speaker 6 (30:58):
Are there any blood tis necessary ahead of time or
anything like that.
Speaker 28 (31:03):
I do like to get some blood tests. Oftentimes patients
have had them, and we can get those from their
lab or they bring them in. We can arrange to.
Speaker 7 (31:12):
Have them done.
Speaker 28 (31:13):
But you know, the short answers to the absoluteity the
blood tests to start on the first dose of these medications.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
Probably not.
Speaker 28 (31:22):
If they don't have them, we'll get them and they
can always start the dose in a few days if
they have to. Well, we'll get them on that path
with very little delay, safely, effectively, And the big thing
is we're going to be there to support them. That's
what patients need in terms of dose adjustment, side effects,
dealing with the appropriate way they need. All these things
(31:43):
need to be discussed. It's more than just a medication.
But this is a true Fountain of Youth medication, so
many benefits, minimal side effects. There are some I'm not
going to paint play that down, but there's so many
positive things in terms of reduction of heart disease, risks, stroke,
even dementia, addictions. It's just really an amazing class of medication.
Speaker 6 (32:09):
I don't know if you've ever seen that we go
of e TV commercial where there are all those people
walking down that you know street and it looks like
you know Main Street, USA. And I'm one of those
people appearing in that commercial. And one of the messages
that the oh, the spokespeople in the front of our
group set is I'm reducing my risk. Is that accurate?
Speaker 28 (32:32):
That has been proven and published twenty five to thirty
reduction of heart attack and stroke the day you start
the medication. That is a powerful reduction. If you think about,
you know, if you're in your fifties, sixties, or seventies,
the most likely reason you're going to die it's heart disease.
(32:55):
It's not cancer, it's not any other issue. It's hard
disease or stroke, cerebral cerebral vascular disease. You reduce that
risk by twenty five to thirty percent the day you
begin the injection.
Speaker 6 (33:12):
The injections are not difficult and they're not painful. I
can assure you of that. I did see recently, though,
an oral version.
Speaker 7 (33:20):
Do you deal with that at all?
Speaker 6 (33:21):
At the wykoff On in the center, we have.
Speaker 28 (33:25):
Not vach dom that path. I have seen very mixed results.
Some of it's available on the internet. I'm not sure
exactly if it's working. There does seem to be some
something that goes on with the delivery system with the injections.
As you said, the injections are just once a week.
They're such a small needle that's no more than just
(33:46):
a pinch. You can give it in your abdomen, your arm,
your thigh. The auto ejectors are very easy to use.
You use the pen and then dispose of the pen.
It's really an amazing system and there should be no
fear on the part of a patient who wants to start.
We'll get them started. We'll get them at least three
(34:08):
months of this for less than three hundred dollars the
actual name brand drug, and we'll say twenty percent on
their consultation with me. All they need to do is
call the office and say I heard doctor Wyckoff a
Michael Pantrid Seals shield this morning. I want to be
seen and see if it's right for me. If it's
not right for you, We'll tell you.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
What percentage of people come for consultations and decide not
to do it, and what is the reason they don't.
Speaker 28 (34:36):
It's a small percentage. Usually they're just fearful as side
effects and they don't have the commitment. I think that
you know, committing to change is hard. If you say, listen,
I don't want to change anything about my life. I
want to have my beer and pretzels and twinkies, and
I want.
Speaker 7 (34:52):
To lose weight.
Speaker 28 (34:53):
I'm probably not the person to help you if you say, listen,
I want to learn how to eat most effectively, not
give up quality foods, pasty foods, but how to eat appropriately,
how to take a medication that may get me through
a barrier that I've had for my entire life or
a significant portion of my life. And I want to
(35:14):
get healthier. If you're excited about that, if you got
passionate about that, then we're the place to help you
take that next step and we'll hand hold you through that.
We're going to be there for follow up. You can
send me an email every day if you like to
our secure portal and we'll help you give on that
road to health and wellnessnes.
Speaker 6 (35:36):
Weight loss doesn't have to be like running uphill against
the wind. Doctor Whycoff has many ways to help you,
including these very very successful it seems drugs. Thank you

When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only
seeing part of the pick. The truth is our health
insurance costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs, we need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,
(37:16):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts
(37:40):
with shedding light on the entire cost equation from upstream
costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visit miibluedaily

In BC news Radio, I'm Marknyfield. Today is going to
be one of the busy siest days on the roads
for Thanksgiving travelers. According to Triple A, Tomorrow we'll also
see millions on the roads as one unless the Sunday
after Thanksgiving. Health officials are raising concerns as the flu
is spreading earlier than usual in some parts of the country.
Speaker 27 (38:13):
Jim Roop reports some infectious disease specialists have already noted
a sharp increase in flu cases over the past few weeks,
as a form of the virus called H three N
two subclate k has set off massive outbreaks in Canada
and the UK. The CDC says the majority of flu
circulating so far this season in the US is the
H three N two strain, which can cause more hospitalizations
(38:36):
and deaths and order adults. The concerns come as millions
of Americans prepared to travel and gather for the Thanksgiving
and other upcoming holidays.
Speaker 16 (38:44):
I'm Jim, and President Trump has accepted an invitation to
visit China. Mark Mayfield INBC news radio.

It's Michael Patrick Shields and I invite you to dream big,
and I invite you to invite yourself to the party.
That's the name of my book. The party for you
can be all sorts of different things. It can be literal,
it can be you know, spiritual, it can be physical,
(39:35):
it can be emotional. And to do that kind of thing,
you turn to a company like Hall Financial. Now, when
David Hall started the company, I wonder if he thought,
you know what, I'd like to get over seven thousand
and five star reviews from my customers.
Speaker 7 (39:50):
That's a good goal.
Speaker 6 (39:51):
And people may have said that's crazy, but he did it.
That's more than seven thousand clients that have given five
star reviews.

You can be one of them. Call Hall First dot com.

Speaker 7 (40:23):
Program it's great to be with.
Speaker 31 (40:26):
You you.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
Know it's.
Speaker 32 (40:27):
INTERESTING i remember the early days ten years ago when
we started the. Company we thought that if we could
get fifty five star reviews that that would give our
company a lot of credibility at the. Time and so
now having climbed over seven, thousand headed for ten thousand,
soon we're excited about. That AND i think that the
thing that we've tried to design in a business that's highly,
(40:50):
commoditized like the mortgage, business where you can get a mortgage,
anywhere is to create a process for people that doesn't
feel like you're getting a, canal are going to the.
Dentist you. Know we create a process where you're in
and out, quick it's very. Pleasant we treat people, Great
we answer the phone on the first. Ring you, know
these things that have driven me nuts for the last
(41:12):
thirty years of business in terms of client, service about
press five for, this press zero to do, that and
then you get hung up on while you're on. HOLD i,
mean these things just drive me absolutely. Insane and then
it all gets channeled into our business where we treat
people in a way that they want to come back
and do business with us.
Speaker 6 (41:31):
AGAIN i refinanced with, you AND i was, Astonished, hut
how ridiculously easy it. WAS i think that most of
it was conducted WHILE i was, driving you know WHAT i,
Mean like you try to multitask when you're going, around
and it was just that. Simple and some of these,
customers as you get close to ten thousand and five star,
(41:52):
reviews are some of them second.
Speaker 7 (41:54):
Homes, yeah a lot of second.
Speaker 32 (41:57):
Homes and in, fact you, know buying a second home is,
become you, know incredibly popular with the world becoming more
mobile over the last twenty five, years folks are you,
know they might live in the north and have a
home in the, south or vice. Versa they might have
a place out west and a cottage. Somewhere and you,
know second homes have become almost for a lot of,
(42:19):
people a way of. Life and so what we've seen
with second home purchases is we've tried to create a
much much easier. Experience in the old, days it was
very difficult having to, justify you, know where you're, living
where's your. EMPLOYER a lot of that has. Changed we've
streamlined at all financial a lot of those rules and
(42:40):
regulations to make it easier for people to, again you
know our commitment to our clients nine business days are
less is the majority of our loans, closing and that
includes second, homes which has become incredibly popular for a
lot of, folks and obviously investing in real estate over
the last twenty five years has been incredibly profitable and
(43:01):
will continue to do so in my.
Speaker 6 (43:03):
Estimation what are the sort of things you should think
about if you're getting close to desiring a second.
Speaker 32 (43:09):
Home, WELL i think the biggest thing that you want
to really plan out is how much money do you
want to put down on? It and what kind of
a payment can you. Afford those two things kind of
go sort of hand in. Hand now if you're purchasing
a home that you're using as, Like, Okay i'll be
(43:30):
there once in a, while BUT i really want to
see the investment grow over time versus, Hey i'm going
to be living in this home for six. Months it's
two different mentalities about how you're going to treat. It
BUT i would say that in terms of like the
amount of money you put, down you don't have to
put twenty percent. DOWN a lot of people think that
you need that to buy a second.
Speaker 7 (43:49):
Home that is not the.
Speaker 32 (43:50):
Case and if you go ahead and you purchase a second,
home the rate is not higher on a second home
than it is on a. Primary there used to be
rules about how you've got to have a higher rate
on the second home because the investors didn't like it as,
much they would sort of put an extra tax on.
Speaker 28 (44:09):
That that's not the case.
Speaker 32 (44:10):
Anymore it used to be the, case and At Hall
financial we would just deduct it anyway because they didn't
think it was. Right but what we have seen now
is more folks understanding that a second home can be
an absolute not only wonderful, investment but a great way
to live if you want to get away for a
couple of months or a couple of weeks here and,
there depending on your. Situation, again a lot Of michiganders
(44:32):
buying second homes In florida And, arizona as we, know
and so there's just been a great emphasis on second
homes At Hall. Financial and we've seen that a lot
of our clients that purchase a refinance In michigan come
back to us to do the, same especially in the
state Of.
Speaker 6 (44:46):
Florida speaking of the state Of, florida that's a perfect.
Example if you buy a house In boca grand or
who knows. Where you should also think about the fact
that you're going to be running the air conditioning all
summer when you're not.
Speaker 32 (44:58):
There, ABSOLUTELY i mean there's a lot of. Considerations the good,
news if you bought a house In, florida let's say
fix or seven years, ago you've seen tremendous run up
in terms of how much that home is now, worth
AND i wouldn't anticipate the same run up over the
next six or seven. Years but at the same, Time
(45:19):
florida has become incredibly popular due to, temperature due to
the fact that folks want to migrate down there as
they get up there in, years we know a lot
of folks go and move down To. Florida they like
the year, round you, know great weather That florida. Experiences
and also a huge benefit for folks that move To
(45:40):
florida and no state income, tax which is really. Nice
so just depending on what you're doing and where you're
at in, life you, know you may want to take
a look at, something whether it be out west or down,
south to enhance your quality of. Life and we've seen
a lot of folks do. That but to your, point
been a great run up in terms of real estate
investment in the state Of.

Florida and of course you want your kids splashing around

(49:31):
have offered an, idea the gift of.
Speaker 7 (49:35):
Equity how does that?
Speaker 32 (49:36):
Work, well it's really a powerful tool that a lot
of folks have used to pass down money from one
generation to, another and using a gift of equity is
extremely not only, generous but it's also a really really
powerful way for someone to go ahead and purchase a
home by utilizing something that maybe their parents in a
(49:59):
lot of, cases were pass on to. Them the most
interesting thing for this whole market has been that, boomers
and we put that generation into a very powerful. Pocket
boomers have not had the luxury of downsizing their home
because of the fact that they can't save money by
(50:20):
downsizing their home because their mortgage is already incredibly. Low and,
actually in a lot of, cases if they were to,
downsize what are they. Doing they're taking on maybe the
same or a bigger. Payment so why would we do.
That as we see rates continue to, drop WHICH i
think we will over the next six to twelve, months
we will see a lot more homes loosen up on the.
(50:40):
Market boomers will want to downsize more and more because
it will continue to make more. Sense But in the,
meantime a lot of those folks have, Chosen, hey you know,
What i'm going to help my kids get into a.
House i'm going to pass on a gift of equity to,
them which is completely fined by the rules of, mortgages
so that their kids can now get into a. Home
so rather than you, know pulling that money, forward they
(51:03):
get a tax deductible gift of equity that they can pass.
Speaker 7 (51:07):
Along to their.
Speaker 32 (51:07):
Kids and we've seen this in many many situations make
a huge difference for kids that you, know maybe we're

gift of, equity and NOW i can go ahead and
i can use that little MONEY i had for a
down payment towards furniture other things That i'm moving into
the house. With and it's just been a really big

Speaker 44 (01:02:41):
Weekend, it, is yes and so folks traveling today and
tomorrow And Then sunday sunday is like the ultimate day
of travel when we wrap Up the thanksgiving as everybody's.
On airplanes, but yes today and tomorrow it's kind of. Spread,
out well we'll have full flights going out for folks
(01:03:02):
going to visit family, and friends but also those coming
in will have a Lot of greeter's curb side picking
up family. And friends so make sure you keep aware
of other folks around you and. Your surroundings and we
look forward to greeting everybody back here in their hometown Here.
Speaker 6 (01:03:20):
AT lanting i know that you've flown in and Out
Of los angeles a bit because you have, Family THERE
but i Can. REMEMBER thanksgiving i think it was a
couple of. YEARS ago i was driving my son to
the airport and it was a, night flight and he
had to get out of the Car on sepulvida and
run up the embankment into, the yeah because you couldn't
(01:03:42):
get a car in. THAT place i mean for miles
it was. Red lights that's not going to Happen At.
Speaker 44 (01:03:48):
Lansing airport it does get wrapped up all the way
around the front of. The terminal and even LAST night
i left late from the office and a flight came
in and it was two, cars deep a lot of
people picking up family. And friends so keep in mind
the short term parking lot is stones, throw away. Inexpensive
(01:04:09):
parking first few minutes there are of course. For free
so if our greeting, loved ones, don't hesitate just to
pull in and park in the short term, parking lot
pick up your family and friends and make maybe a
little bit easier for folks that are dropping off and getting.
Speaker 6 (01:04:23):
PICKED up i always, feel like, you know we all
have a little bit of a responsibility when it comes
to making the travel. Experience smoother are there things we
can do to be good travelers and?
Speaker 44 (01:04:35):
Good skates do you KNOW what? I, MEAN definitely i
think first and foremost when this time of the year
there's a little bit less of maybe, business traveling and
there's a lot more family traveling and those that maybe
travel just once, a year and so keep in mind
of patients of those, around you show up to the,
airports early make sure you're there at nine minutes ahead
(01:04:56):
of time before, your departure and then keep in mind
over this, past year the regulations, have changed with airlines
requiring you to get your bags checked in forty five
minutes before the, departure time and there's not flexibility. With
that so if you're traveling and you've got, your luggage
make sure you're there at least forty five minutes, in
advance get your, bags checked and then also think about
(01:05:17):
when you're going. Through security that three one one rule,
Still qualify so your liquids and gels need to be
put in a. Ziplock baggy and then if you're traveling,
with gifts hold off on wrapping.
Speaker 38 (01:05:28):
Those Gifts what i've.
Speaker 44 (01:05:29):
Done in the PAST is i wrap the gift and
leave one, end open so, that WAY if tsa does
need to inspect the item, that's inside you're not having
to open up an unwrap a. Gift totally so keep that.
In mind and, of COURSE as, i mentioned show up
early and pack your patients because there could be some
(01:05:50):
delays along the way with weather that's hitting throughout the
country and it's planes being impacted from one location to.
Speaker 9 (01:05:57):
The next so just keep that.
Speaker 44 (01:05:58):
In mind as you're saying thinking of traveling here over
the next, few.
Speaker 7 (01:06:01):
Days what is the three to one.
Speaker 38 (01:06:03):
One, rule oh it's.
Speaker 44 (01:06:05):
Putting your liquids and gels in a zip BLOCK baggye
a three ounce sized containers of any of those liquids,
and gels and you can only have one zip black baggy,
per person so it DEPENDS. On tsa sometimes are going
to require you to take out. The bag majority of,
the Time what i've seen traveling IS just i leave
it in my bag and it's combined and it's, collected
(01:06:28):
together so that way it's easier FOR the tfa agents
feel to screen the.
Speaker 6 (01:06:32):
Packages three ounce bottles. Or LESS and, I wonder i
always wonder about someone's sort of, travel profile if. You
will are they the type who like to shirpa bags
all through the airport and try to fit them in
the overhead so that they don't have to? Check one
or do they check bags and walk unfettered in a
comfortable fashion through the airport and no hurry to get
(01:06:55):
on the flight because they're not worried about.
Speaker 44 (01:06:56):
Overhead, space yeah, YOU know, I personally i used to
carry on everything my SUITCASE and i now check. A
bag i check a bag TRADITIONALLY everywhere, i go unless
it's just a one night, stay somewhere and it is
just so much easier and smoother and a lot less
(01:07:17):
of a challenge when you're trying to board, a plane
and you're going to see a lot of that as
you come into the. Holiday season folks are going to
try to carry on as much as they can and
it will become. A challenge so keeping in mind of
respect to others when you're boarding, the aircraft of keeping
your items within the space that you have a seat
and underneath the seat in front of you to accommodate
for those larger bags that need to go above.
Speaker 6 (01:07:39):
Your head YOU and i are lucky because we, travel
frequently so we don't have to pay usually for checked
bags because of the bus travel that. We do but
some people do and they're trying to. AVOID that i
don't know what the policies Are for Delta or American
or breeze airways in terms of paying. FOR bags i
think it's quite very on what kind of traveler. You
(01:08:01):
are but one thing's for sure is it's very easy
to check a Bag at lancing because the lines aren't,
typically long and the getting your bag from either the
drop off at the sidewalk or even the parking lot
is not. Very far, that's right.
Speaker 44 (01:08:15):
That's right and you know as you look at getting,
checked in whether it's domestic. Or international those all factors play,
a role so make sure you visit the airlines websites
for further details. And information we have links to all

There too but that's in some of the more. Remote
regions one of THE places, i go, for instance out
To The. Dingle peninsula you can still Hear the, irish

From an irish person that requires a bit of a,
deep dive like.
Speaker 45 (01:14:31):
This one you could Live in ireland for ten years
and still not fully understand the same asher. Look at
But to irish people it says Everything in, ireland asher
look it is our natural. Copa mechanism it's the phrase
you use when lfe's going a little, bit sideways but there's.
Speaker 8 (01:14:45):
Nothing you can do.

walking to town and having. A pint one of the
(01:15:33):
greatest months of my life was Spent In Dingle. County
kerry it Was, in october so, you know a lot
of the tourists, were gone some of the stores, were
CLOSED and i basically lived in a guesthouse, AND uh
i did a lot, of writing a lot of writing
during that month during, the day AND then i would
just go and be with, the locals having a pint
(01:15:56):
or two or maybe, some whiskey listening to some music
on foot most of, the time and just sort of.
Hanging out and you, might, say wow that sounds like
you were drinking all, The time but it's part of the,
culture there as this woman, also explains and if you
tell some of your friends that you're not having, a
drink they might look at.
Speaker 7 (01:16:15):
Your sideways if.
Speaker 45 (01:16:17):
You're, in ireland then you tell Your friends i'm not,
drinking tonight you will instantly become a cause. For concern
the People of ireland will TURN Into, Csi ireland are you.
Speaker 6 (01:16:25):
An antibiotics are, you sick are?
Speaker 11 (01:16:27):
You pregnant do you need to?
Speaker 45 (01:16:29):
Lift home do you want to lend them a few
bob like not drinking is a sign that you hit
rock bottom. Financially emotionally they start checking, your pulse calling,
your mother organizing A GoFundMe and a minute YOU say
i just don't feel. Like it they look at you
like you've kicked. A, puppy, RIGHT well i just get
you a. Pint anyway then next minute you're on the
dance floord Dancing to mania two Thousand. In ireland i'm
(01:16:51):
not DRINKING means i haven't. Started yet you need to.
Convince me.
Speaker 7 (01:16:57):
I'll party you a.
Speaker 6 (01:16:58):
Pint anyway it's just so sweet. And, harmless really it is,
totally harmless is what. She's saying is what. She means
it's a social thing, to do and that's what a.
Pub is it's a public house because your house was
too small for Entertaining in ireland and so you couldn't have,
(01:17:19):
people over so you have to go somewhere, to gather
and that was a. Public house and now we can
get into the snugs where the women had to stay
in the. Small room but, you know those days. Are
gone you can still see a s a snug there
if you. Want to but the other thing is the
World famous. Irish goodbye my friends hate me, for THIS
(01:17:40):
but i have learned to. Embrace It when i'm at
a PARTY and i want, to leave, or gathering or
even out for, A night i. JUST vaporize i don't.
Like goodbyes for, Some reason i've learned to. Despise goodbyes
they hurt. ME emotionally i don't.
Speaker 7 (01:17:56):
Know why it's a.
Speaker 6 (01:17:57):
WEIRD thing i should probably talk To Doctor heather zach.
About it But in ireland they embrace what is.
Speaker 7 (01:18:03):
Now Labeled the, irish Goodbye the.
Speaker 45 (01:18:06):
Irish goodbye if you've ever been To an irish party
and turn around and all of, a sudden half the guests,
are gone. Don't panic they've not. Been kidnapped they've just
Done the. Irish goodbye, no foot, no drama, no goodbye. Just,
Gone see irish people don't just.
Speaker 6 (01:18:20):
Leave parties we.
Speaker 45 (01:18:21):
Escape them we have to because if you said goodbye And,
in ireland you'd be trapped in a never Ending, Loop, goodbye.
Goodbye goodbye by the time you got around, the circle
there's twenty more people to say goodbye, to here and
by the end you're back at the same table you,
started with a, new drink a cup, of, tea whiskey you.
Name it so grab, your coat disappear. Like hoo they need,
get home get a good. Night's Sleep the. Irish goodbye,
(01:18:42):
it's true.
Speaker 7 (01:18:43):
Isn't it someone's, gonna, say oh you're.
Speaker 6 (01:18:45):
Gone, Already, yeah well and you stay a, little more
and then you, feel GUILTY, Like i i'm really kind.
Speaker 7 (01:18:50):
Of, tired ah, come on stay for a little, bit.
Speaker 6 (01:18:53):
More or otherwise, they, say, okay well it was great,
seeing you and you get into all of that stuff
like it's kind of was unspoken for the, Most part like,
you know so THAT'S what i, Think OF like I
just i want to spare. That pain why don't we, Gonna,
talk well we'll. Talk tomorrow i'll be, in touch, you

if i find that some particular thing is causing me to,
have stress that's a.
Speaker 7 (01:22:19):
Warning flag. For me what it means is.
Speaker 47 (01:22:21):
There's SOMETHING that i haven't, completely identified perhaps in my,

taken any action. ON it i find as SOON as
i identify it and make the first phone call or
send off the first email message or whatever it is
that we're going to do to start to address.
Speaker 7 (01:22:40):
That situation even if it's, not solved the.
Speaker 47 (01:22:43):
Mere fact that we're addressing it dramatically reduces any stress
that might. Come from so stress comes from ignoring things
that you shouldn't.

Be, ignoring.

Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
VERY much i appreciate having.
Speaker 6 (01:28:35):
Me on what do you remember About? The tigers you,
Swept them you just dispensed of them. Very easily and
some of those games Were. In, detroit.
Speaker 3 (01:28:45):
Yeah you know that was a tough, situation even, you know,
for them to be honest, WITH you i was a
part Of a rockies team in two thousand and seven
that did the same. Exact thing we swept, the playoffs.
Speaker 15 (01:28:56):
And we had.
Speaker 3 (01:28:57):
Too much we had soone we had ten. Days off
That's when Boston and cleveland were going Out at cleveland
had them up three games, to one And then boston
came back and took the series and we came in To,
the boston but we had ten. Days off we were
in the. Cold weather we were trying to practice out.
In snow detroit had similar. Weather scenarios they had to
take ten. Days off and what, we NOTICED AND i
(01:29:18):
i talked to the team about, that, was listen you
can't take anything. For granted these are, a really really,
good team but the reality of it is it's a
really hard thing to do to take that much time
off when another team has been playing in loser, out games.
Intense baseball they've been in it and their, momentums going
and this team has been just sitting in the clubhoffs
(01:29:39):
and they've. Been practicing they were on. THE field i
know they brought guys up to pitch to them, and
jot but you can't replicate the intensity of a playoff
atmosphere when you're sitting for. Ten days and so those hitters,
they did they had holes and we saw them and
their swings, were off the timing, was off and they're really.
GOOD hitters, I mean melkew's timing. Was off PRINSTAN'S time
(01:30:00):
i mean. Was off you could pitch. Him in we,
knew It which i'd take advantage, of it and, we
did and our hitters were just. On point He saw
pablo come in and hit three homers in the, first
game two Off, of orlander who was at. THAT time,
i mean as good as, it gets. You know so
it was a tough thing we had. TO face I
think suzer. As well we had a really tough uphill.
(01:30:21):
Bottle there but because of where we, WERE at i
think we had advantage, in there and he. Saw it
we Swept The. World series and, it happens and it
happens to teams that have to.
Speaker 4 (01:30:29):
Sit for a.
Speaker 6 (01:30:29):
Long Time jeremy atholt's new book Is called built For,
The storm weathering the storms of life, with grit faith.
And determination you got lots of Weather In, san francisco
even in the middle of the summer playing there as
long as. You did you never pitched a ball that
ended up in the water, out there, did?
Speaker 9 (01:30:48):
YOU well I think.
Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
I did i can't. REMEMBER him i didn't give up
a ton, of HOMERS but i actually the FURTHEST one
i ever. Gave up it didn't get into, the water
but it. WENT off i think it went Off The
jered delly train out there and out there in the,
right center and that's a long way to. HIT it
i Was facing Upton, in ARIZONA and I. Remember boch he,
(01:31:14):
was like, hey man pitch, him away make him beat.
You away that's how we kind Of, knew UPTON and
I decided i usually threw, all THINKERS and i remember that.
ONE pitch, i said you, know what he's gonna look
for that. Thinker down i'm gonna throw a fastball up
and away here and SEE if i can get him to.
Chase IT and i decided to throw a four SEAMER
that i don't throw a lot OF and i. THREW
it i threw it away. And up it just didn't
(01:31:36):
get enough, away up and he hit it a. Long
WAY and i remember looking even at, the dugout so
it went. SO far i looked over in our Dugout
and caine had his hat over. His face he was
laughing and becaus it went. So FAR and i looked
over At, aj hinch who was my first catcher in
the big leagues With. The royals he caught my. First,
win yeah he caught my first, Win ACTUALLY and i
(01:32:00):
Looked at aj In the. Arizona dugouts he was the
manager over there at, the time and he just looked
at me and. Said Wow and, i'm, LIKE yeah I mean.
I did i honestly had nothing. To SAY and i
got back to the Dugout and boats pulled me aside and,
he's like he said his, Old, VOICE hey i needed
to pitch, him AWAY but i need him to hit,
it away but not that.
Speaker 9 (01:32:20):
Far.
Speaker 3 (01:32:21):
AWAY yeah i, was like, you know it didn't toss us.
The GAME so i guess, everybody's laughing but, you know
it made it a one run game or two run game.
Speaker 4 (01:32:30):
OR something i.
Speaker 3 (01:32:30):
Can't remember we, were up but it went a.
Speaker 15 (01:32:32):
Long.
Speaker 3 (01:32:33):
Way today if it would have went to, the water
he probably it would have been one of the furthest
one out in. THE water i can tell You.
Speaker 6 (01:32:37):
That TIGERS And aj hinch were very disappointed. This year
do you keep in touch with him?
Speaker 3 (01:32:42):
At, ALL yes, i, DO well i texted me, right
now AND then i. HAVEN'T texted i didn't text him.
THIS year i saw him last year when we Had
the tenure reunion for the Twenty Fourteen world series and
we Were, Playing detroit satmiss Was playing Detroit At san francisco,
last year and we walked over and. Saw, him actually
(01:33:04):
Me And tim hudson both went over There because timmy
said that was his first caught his first, win too so,
YOU know aj cought both of our, first wins and
so we walked over there give. My HUGS so i saw, him,
then UH and i texted him a. LITTLE bit i
mean to talk about storms, in, LIFE man. I talked
i text him a little bit after His the. Astros
scenario uh and and we have the same, financial advisor
(01:33:27):
AND so i just, YOU know i texted him, and, said,
HEY man i don't need.
Speaker 4 (01:33:31):
TO know i don't.
Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
REALLY care i just want to, tell, YOU man i
know you're gonna deal it, a Lot and i'm sorry
you're having to deal with. All this and and he
just kind of case wass encouragement and, HE said i.
Get IT and, i SAID but i checked in on
him just because he is. A man he's a, great
man and and he's a good he's a, good father,
and uh he was a great teammate and so h
it was SOMETHING that i just FELT like i should
do and reached out to. Him then but It was it's.
Speaker 4 (01:33:54):
Been great he's a. Good guy i'm pulling.
Speaker 3 (01:33:56):
FOR him I think I think i think he's he's a,
great MANAGER and i think he'll do big Things.
Speaker 6 (01:34:00):
For detroit the book Is called built For, The storm.
Jeremy felt and that's very thoughtful of you to say,
TO him i don't need, TO know i just. Support
you And that's i'm sure there were times when you
would like someone to have said that to you through
your divorces, and struggles even though you had. Great success
can you teach us before. You go what we can
(01:34:21):
read about in. Your book THAT'S which i see you
call the. Buffalo mentality we can all adopt that today
in a minute.
Speaker 7 (01:34:28):
Or so what does? That, mean.
Speaker 3 (01:34:31):
Well it's just to know that storms come over the.
Rocky mountains so you know when you look at storms
and you look, at buffalo and you look at cattle.
And cows when storms come over the, rocky mountains cows
run from. Those, storms buffaloes they don't they when they
see when they heard, of buffalo see the storm come
over the, rocky mountains they run right out that storm
and they take it right on and they charge it
(01:34:52):
because they know when they run out, of storm that
storm passes. Over them when you run away from, a
storm let, cattle do and cows the storm stays with
you do a whole, lot long and they, get scattered they,
get sick. They DIE and i think life is the,
same way whether it, be business whether it be, you.
Know RELATIONAL like, I said.
Speaker 4 (01:35:08):
I went through.
Speaker 3 (01:35:09):
A divorce that's what kind of bought me to write,
this book to TELL people i threw ran some storms.
In baseball, they're CRAZY and i took them right ON
and i. CHARGED them i didn't run. From them and
life is. That way we're gonna have storms come. At
us we're gonna have scenarios come Out as we're gonna
have either business storms or, relational storms or family storms or.
Health storms and it's not to run. And height it's
to get people to surround you and hang out with
(01:35:30):
you and be a herd. Like buffalo buffalo's get into
a herd and they. Charge storms take those storms on
and it'll make you a. Better person you'll figure out
that you are built for.

It Was barbara walters who would ask, the question if

(01:39:28):
morning the Owner Of Corson's tree farms. In montcom he
takes the radio stage this morning THROUGH our AT and.
T lines welcome to. The, PROGRAM well i might as well,
ask you for the fun, of It The barbara walters
question if you were, a, tree sir since you own a,
tree farm what kind of tree would?
Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
You?
Speaker 51 (01:39:45):
Be, oh yeah put me on the spot right to start,
OUT with i would considering that we just Won The
National tree contest with a, blue spruce it'd be hard
for me to say anything different, than that go.
Speaker 6 (01:39:57):
Blue spruce you've got good news for the State of
michigan And The united States. Of America rex courus and
the Owner Of Courson's. Tree farms you were just alluded.
To it what is the news that you're sharing with
the rest.
Speaker 51 (01:40:09):
Of us so we entered a tree we Could go
friday In The National Christmas tree association Has Their Christmas,
tree contest and we were fortunate enough to be selected
The grand. Champion tree and with that comes the honor
of representing The real christmas tree Growers in america and
continuing the tradition of presenting The Official White house christmas
(01:40:33):
tree that will go In The blue room At The.
Speaker 6 (01:40:34):
White, house Wow The White house christmas tree will Come
From Courson's tree Farms. In michigan that's what you're.
Speaker 7 (01:40:42):
Telling us you? Got, it wow eighteen foot.
Speaker 6 (01:40:46):
Blue spruce and did they tell you any feedback about
how you won or why?
Speaker 51 (01:40:52):
You won, so actually it's interesting as WE as i
shared the story, with people the tree that we won
the contest with is not the tree that we will
actually present this year To The. White house, so yeah
They The white house actually sends a couple members of,
the Staff The white house usher And the Superintendent, of
(01:41:12):
grounds and they'll come to the farm and like Sometime
late September early october to actually identify and select the
tree that will that will end up providing To The.
Speaker 28 (01:41:21):
White house.
Speaker 51 (01:41:22):
It's it it goes In The blue room and the
ceiling is just like just under, twenty feet so they
normally there's a chandelier that hangs In The blue room
during the. Holiday seasons when they decorate and put the,
tree up the chandelier comes down to make room for.
The tree so it's got to. Go that the tree's
got to go right to the top of. The ceiling, so,
they yeah they send out a couple members from the
(01:41:44):
staff to come and select the tree to make sure that.
Speaker 6 (01:41:46):
It fits Doesn't The, First Lady milania trump get a say?
Speaker 5 (01:41:50):
In this.
Speaker 51 (01:41:53):
Unfortunately.
Speaker 7 (01:41:54):
She, doesn't yeah they should send Her. To michigan that'd be,
all right.
Speaker 4 (01:41:58):
Wouldn't that that'd.
Speaker 51 (01:41:59):
Be grey so we do so when we present, the
tree we actually do present it To The. First lady
so it's the tree has brought brought up to the
front Of The white house on a horse, drawn carriage
and we'll be there with our family and present the
tree To The.
Speaker 7 (01:42:14):
First lady that will be.
Speaker 6 (01:42:16):
Very exciting have you entered?
Speaker 52 (01:42:18):
The.
Speaker 7 (01:42:18):
Contest before so we've.
Speaker 51 (01:42:20):

wins you the right to present the tree that goes
In The vice. President's residence oh.
Speaker 6 (01:42:36):

Speaker 51 (01:42:38):
The time at the time It, Was Biden.
Speaker 6 (01:42:42):
Joe biden and did you Go to washington to present that?
Speaker 7 (01:42:45):
Tree, too yeah.
Speaker 51 (01:42:47):
We did we sent them the main tree that was
displayed In The vice, president's residence which was not nearly
as large as the one In The. White house it
was still about twelve. Feet tall and we were fortunate
enough to be invited and to go to one of
the holiday parties that, they have and so we got
to Meet the vice president and it was, a great
great experience for.
Speaker 6 (01:43:08):
Our Family The, naval observatory right is Where the vice.
President lives is that a, cool.
Speaker 4 (01:43:12):
Place That's The.
Speaker 51 (01:43:13):

Speaker 51 (01:43:17):
Great experience we actually got to go to, the observatory
Meet The vice president and spent some time with one of,
the receptions and it was a.
Speaker 6 (01:43:28):
Great experience not to, be indelicate but you Might Remember
milania trump was famously quoted talking About the christmas decorations
At The white house during the first term in a
moment of frustration and said this.
Speaker 41 (01:43:43):
And oncestas planning For?
Speaker 9 (01:43:45):
The Christmas?
Speaker 6 (01:43:47):
About christmas do you remember that who gives enough About?
The christmas?
Speaker 7 (01:43:52):
SHE said.
Speaker 51 (01:43:54):
I vaguely remember, that one and that audio, wasn't REAL
so i didn't touch exactly what.
Speaker 7 (01:44:01):
She said she, just said who gives an f About?
Speaker 6 (01:44:04):
The christmas but she. Was frustrated she wanted some coverage
for some charitable efforts that she, was undergoing and that's
what that was. All about i'm sure you'll get a
much better reception this time At The. White house and it.
Speaker 7 (01:44:17):
Is, a, big big big, you say it's Your.
Speaker 6 (01:44:19):
Super bowl it's a victory like This for michigan and
for Of Course Courson's. Tree, farms.
Speaker 51 (01:44:25):
Yeah the recognition for us in our industry is. It's
huge and it's been forty one years since the Tree
from michigan has won the. National competition so we're pretty
proud to end.
Speaker 6 (01:44:39):
That street if somebody listening right now on the radio
stations we have across the State of, Michigan, Says wow
i'd like to have a tree from the, same farm
and maybe even the same kind, of tree a similar
Tree From Corson's tree farms that they are going to
have In The. White house can they?
Speaker 28 (01:44:54):
Do, that.
Speaker 51 (01:44:56):
Yeah we're a, wholesale operation so we don't sell. Anything
retailer we don't have a, choosing cup but so we
sell to, you know garden centers and independent retailers and
service groups that you can. Go On The Michigan Christmas
tree association has a tree locator and you can look
(01:45:16):
and try, to find, you know a location close. To you,
but yeah we we sell only, wholesale, unfortunately unfortunately so
you'd have to go to one of the retail locations
that we Sell To Courson's.
Speaker 6 (01:45:30):
Tree farms and so how long is the tree that
will be featured In The? White house how long has it?
Speaker 7 (01:45:38):
Been growing.
Speaker 51 (01:45:40):
That tree is around twenty?
Speaker 4 (01:45:43):
Years old.
Speaker 51 (01:45:45):
And there, it goes and it's kind OF like i
said that that actually the actual tree hasn't been, selected
yet so, You know i'm not sure the. SPECIFIC tree,
I Mean i'm i've had my eye on a couple
THAT that i think will fit what, they're after, But,
that yeah the actual tree hasn't been.
Speaker 6 (01:46:03):
Selected Yet mister corson Goes to washington and Takes the
christmas tree with Them At Corson's tree farms In, Montcom Congratulations,
merry christmas and thank you very much For representing michigan
in the way. You've done when it comes to, healthcare
(01:46:23):
costs we often focus on, one thing our. Insurance premiums
but what if we're only seeing part of. The picture
the truth is our health insurance costs reside downstream at
the end of the. Cost equation but to really understand
what's driving, up costs we need to look upstream to
the healthcare. System, itself upstream there are costs like the
price is charged by hospitals, and doctors and the cost of,
(01:46:46):
prescription drugs, healthcare administration. And technology these costs flow downstream
directly into your health. Insurance premium That's Why Blue Cross
blue Shield of michigan is advocating for a system why
solution to address the rising cost. Of Healthcare blue cross
knows that healthcare, is personal needs to work, for everyone and,
(01:47:08):
affordability matters and that starts with shedding light on the
entire cost equation from upstream costs to. Downstream premiums want to,

Speaker 6 (02:01:43):
TO you i like the stuffing and mashed potatoes better
than anything on the. Plate anyway so there's. That exactly
i'm with you on that. For sure and the truth
of the matter is the president and apparently our, governor
too have this quote unquote quaint activity where they pardon
Turkeys every, thanksgiving time as if they were pardoning a
(02:02:05):
prisoner of some sort and sparing those turkeys from being.
COOKED instead, I guess i. Don't know they get sent
to a farm somewhere or something. Like that we have
a Place in Michigan called, turkeyville where well you can
go and see the turkeys on, the farm but you
can also have a turkey dinner in the building right next.
To it what is your take on all, of that
(02:02:27):
and do you think that's a real turkey pardon?
Speaker 7 (02:02:30):
The, Pun, yeah well as, you, mentioned.
Speaker 53 (02:02:33):
Pardons therefore the accused or bots convicted of. Federal crime
so turkeys don't, need pardons they. Need protection and the
truth is That every thanksgiving more than forty six million
turkeys will. Be killed and as, you mentioned even the
birds who are used in the, pardoning ceremony they're doomed
to die prematurely of heart failure because they're pumped full
(02:02:53):
of antibiotics to make them grow, unnaturally large which causes
their hearts to be crushed under the way of. Their
breast so we're suggesting for the governor instead to make
history and honor he states beloved cherry farmers by Replacing
The Cool turkey pardon With The Great. CHERRY pardon.
Speaker 6 (02:03:12):
I guess the cherries don't really need to be, pardoned,
either though?
Speaker 22 (02:03:14):
Do?
Speaker 53 (02:03:15):
THEY yeah i, mean really all this is is just
a pr stent promoting the cool. Turkey industry so why
not instead just Do A great cherry pardon that Will uplift,
michigan's farmers, protect animals and pave way.
Speaker 6 (02:03:30):
For a More.
Speaker 53 (02:03:30):
Sustainable thanksgiving because we know that turkeys, are sensitive intelligent
individuals who feel love and joy and fear just like.
We do Yet, every thanksgiving millions of them struggle desperally as, they're,
shackled shocked and slaughtered before ending up on. The table
so we're just suggesting that everyone skip the Turkey this
thanksgiving and instead fill their place with vegan foods that
(02:03:52):
are kind, to animals the planet and, our.
Speaker 6 (02:03:53):
Health and maybe enjoy cherry.
Speaker 11 (02:03:55):
Pardon instead is there such, a.
Speaker 6 (02:03:58):
Thing and does it matter to you if they're is
as a free. Range turkey.
Speaker 53 (02:04:04):
All of those terms are basically meaningless to animals because
they do little or nothing to improve. THEIR lives peda
investigations we have exposed, workers, kicking slamming and mutilating birds on.
Factory farms turkeys are crammed into, silfy warehouses they're shackled
upside down and dragged through electrified water and have their,
throats lit all while they're. Fully conscious whenever people see,
(02:04:27):
this footage, they're horrified and it's really not something that
people want to have On their. Thanksgiving table it's so
easy to enjoy a Fully delicious thanksgiving spread that's. Completely
vegan as, you said most of the sides are already
made up, of vegetables so just easy swaps like using
oat milk instead of, cow's milk or plant based butter or.
(02:04:48):
Vegetable stock but now there's so many delicious vegan. Roasts
too there's so many Brands, from tofurkey To field Roast,
to GUARDEEN and pta has all that information on. Our
website we celebrate thanks to begin HERE. At peta so
if everyone goes to peda dot org fash, things speaking
they'll find all the information.
Speaker 6 (02:05:05):
They Need as god as, MY witness i thought turkeys,
could fly is What mister carlson said ON that. Wkrp
episode but you've written directly to, the governor At Least ingrid,
newkirk did and in, a sense what does the letter
say and did you get any kind.
Speaker 54 (02:05:22):
Of response we have not heard Back From governor, whitmy
yet but in the letter we are just hoping that
she will choose to not have the turkey pardon.
Speaker 53 (02:05:35):
But instead replace it With The Great. Cherry pardon and
that's because turkey pardons they're just the meat industry's annual
feel good photo op and it's basically just putting a
shiny bow stopped onto a factory. Farming nightmare and as you,
mentioned before the, pardon birds they're usually just shipped off
to poorly maintained enclosures where many die. Within months so
(02:05:55):
it's really important to instead maybe uplift the cherry farmers
in the state and show people that we can all Enjoy,
vegan thanksgiving that everyone can be, grateful for.
Speaker 7 (02:06:05):
Including turkeys what is an electrified?
Speaker 6 (02:06:08):
Stun bath.
Speaker 53 (02:06:10):
So once the in factory farms, and slaughterhouses these animals

(02:13:09):

Robert F.
Speaker 6 (02:13:14):
Kennedy JUNIOR. Robert F, kennedy junior, of course is now
In the, trump administration but he was running for president
and he was sort of an, ENVIRONMENTAL lawyer i guess you.
Might say and he's been on, this program and so has,
His Wife, cheryl hines who is From The Curb Your.

so we don't really know what to believe or who,
to believe or what, have you and. So forth but
it does open up the sort of modern aged question
of what is an affair and what?
Speaker 7 (02:14:48):
Is cheating is a digital affair worse than a? Physical
affair did HE say i?
Speaker 6 (02:14:58):
Love you and if he, did SO what i. Don't

people who work together as men. And women and, you
know you have all these jokes about things like work wife.
(02:15:18):
AND whatnot i don't think that's, very funny but, you
know when people who are supposed to be working together
ending up having, an affair whether it's digital, or otherwise
it makes it rough on the other people who want,
to SAY well i can work with women without it getting, you,
know inappropriate.

one Of the, lions Games jameson williams is at his
name the receiver. NUMBER one i was like receivers that
wear number One because Anthony car ward, number one and
there was another Guy.

MPs two that's a burden to WEAR that i can
tell YOU because i dropped a fair amount. Of, Passes
Anyway jamison williams got a penalty after a touchdown, for
CELEBRATING and i THOUGHT the nfl was cool. With this
now when, you know you can see them playing duck
duck goose and all sort of. Funny stuff but he
jumped on the, goal posts like the base of the
(02:17:32):
goal post which is covered, in padding and just like
hugged it with his arms and legs about halfway up
the post and got a penalty. For it so they
backed up the extra point and, Guess what, i'm surprised
but the extra point, was missed so it affected, the
game and, people, said well what's so terribleut when APPARENTLY
(02:17:53):
the nfl you can jump on, a teammate you can
jump in, the stands you, can dance you, can tumble
but you may not hug the goal post because you
can't use a field object as part of.
Speaker 7 (02:18:06):
A CELEBRATION so i.
Speaker 6 (02:18:09):
Don't know they must have meetings with the players and
say here's how you can celebrate and here's how you.
Speaker 7 (02:18:13):
Can't. You, UH also i.
Speaker 55 (02:18:16):
Think it's because it's got, damage before is. What happened
we used to have the players that would dump the
ball over the, you know the field, goal post and
it would actually damage. The thing so, they said no,
more touch just don't, touch.
Speaker 7 (02:18:27):
It leave the.
Speaker 6 (02:18:28):
STUFF alone i guess you're also not supposed to try
to hug any of, your opponents but it's not against.
THE rules i don't think that would go over too
well if you were to hug one of. Your, opponents
ah love is in, the air? Isn't it how about

a lot of fire to burn in. Their belly so
it's a swing song. As well and then we did
a very UNIQUE and i think a very special Version
Of silent night that will.
Speaker 6 (02:31:29):
Warm.
Speaker 15 (02:31:29):
Your heart you'll hear the words and it'll almost it
almost makes you want to get up and Dance To.
Silent Night silent night traditionally, for me was always a.
Sad song everybody sings it, as SUCH and i actually
got tired of it being.
Speaker 7 (02:31:43):
That way AND although i.
Speaker 15 (02:31:45):
Say the, same words sing the, same words we put
a swing to it and it makes you feel like
listening to it and getting up. And Moving Maybe.
Speaker 6 (02:31:53):
James judson is the artist we're speaking. To now he's
got a VERY new ep Available With. Holiday music It's
Called It's Christmas eve tonight and, You know I'll be
Home for christmas is a terribly sad song also.
Speaker 15 (02:32:07):
It is and we also. Made that when we were
producing that in, the studio one of the sound, engineers, Said,
HEY james i DIDN'T believe i can't, believe this but
You made I'll be Home for christmas. Sound SEXY so
i hope your listeners kind of get. That vibe it's
not as sad as it, traditionally is but you definitely
get the message this man wants to, be home but
(02:32:27):
he's also young and full of fire and, you know
having a little more Hump to he'll be Home.
Speaker 6 (02:32:34):
FOR christmas i never thought, about this but, you know
in the, modern era you Could say i'll be Home,
for christmas but only in, my dreams or we could
fire Up the facebook live and get this camera, going,
here right and.
Speaker 15 (02:32:48):
It's True and i'll be Home for christmas is, another
one Similar To. Silent night it was traditionally sung slower and,
somewhat melancholy but our version doesn't make you feel. That
way we make you feel like a little Happier about
i'll be Home.
Speaker 6 (02:33:04):
For christmas it's a mean song because throughout the lyric
You hear i'll be Home, for christmas you can count,
On me and then the last line is if only in.
Speaker 7 (02:33:14):
My, dreams well.
Speaker 15 (02:33:15):
That song Originates From World, war two and it was
actually the most played.
Speaker 7 (02:33:20):
Song During World war two.
Speaker 15 (02:33:23):
And sung By. Being crosby it was a signature song
for him and a signature song for our country with
so many of our. Soldiers overseas so it had, A
meaning i, would say much more than it does today for.
Most people but we still. Capture that we don't lose
the meaning of a song in our swing swing vibe.
Speaker 6 (02:33:46):
Of it how do we get Your Album it's christmas.
Eve tonight well it's going to be Released.
Speaker 15 (02:33:52):
ON august, I mean i'm so sorry it's going to
Be released november, twenty eighth and then you'll build a
start listening to it on, The DSPs, Apple, music SPOTIFY
every dsp that you, turn to you'll be able To
Find JAMES. Judson's Ep It's christmas.
Speaker 6 (02:34:11):
Eve tonight, you know it's not ironic that You, said
AUGUST because i think we were in that recording Studio.
Speaker 15 (02:34:16):
In, AUGUST well i think it was Possibly late August,
or september so that we cut the big, band, sound yes.
Speaker 7 (02:34:24):
Right there and.
Speaker 6 (02:34:25):
That's the thing, of it the layer after layer of
putting something like that together that we just get to
go ahead and push a button and.
Speaker 15 (02:34:32):
Enjoy you there's a lot more complication to making music than.
Speaker 4 (02:34:35):
People realize.
Speaker 15 (02:34:36):
Live music none of this. Is digital we never do digital,
Music actually so every note that you hear on our
album is, real musicians super talented jazz, musicians GENERALLY and
i hope your listeners appreciate.
Speaker 7 (02:34:49):
That effort and you do have to work.
Speaker 15 (02:34:52):
Several layers some of, the solos some of the guitar
leads are done afterwards after the. Big, orchestra now in the,
big days they had a big enough studio that the
soloists actually played with the orchestra that those days are.
Gone now so we have the luxury now cutting the,
main band the big, band sound and then we can
(02:35:13):
bring in our saxophone or our trumpet player layer later
and overlay.
Speaker 6 (02:35:17):
That Music james judson has taken us right behind, the
curtain right into the studio and just very quickly the
studio at which you Record.
Speaker 15 (02:35:24):
On, Sunset well i'm SO proud i got Invited Into

James john in this new holiday album and he's back with.
Us here and you know you mentioned just a. Minute,
ago ai by, the way the Holiday Album It's christmas,
eve tonight your original single is. On there the number
one holiday not holiday country song right now on the
country list IS.
Speaker 38 (02:39:18):
All ai it's not a, real singer it's not a.
REAL music i almost want to get out of BED
when i.
Speaker 9 (02:39:25):
Hear, THAT well i.
Speaker 15 (02:39:27):
Think listeners eventually will not WANT. More ai and OF
course ai can't put up a sound on a. Live
stage they're not going to get out in front of
you and see to.
Speaker 6 (02:39:38):
An AUDIENCE but i could put Someone, like marshmallow, you
know with a big, helmet on and you never see
the person's real face and they're not really, singing anyway
and sometimes the lip sinking that goes on is real.
Speaker 15 (02:39:49):
Performance either it's definitely a threat to the music INDUSTRY
and i just hate it for, you know, real musicians,
real singers songwriters have thater into, our REALM and i
really think it's very important for our government to step
in and start controlling some OF the ai artistry that's.
Been created otherwise we're headed down a very. Dark path
(02:40:11):
i'm so proud that we HAVE zero ai on my
album and the, next album and that's just not something we're.
Gonna do hopefully the listeners. Appreciate it we'll just have
to see what the future unfolds.
Speaker 6 (02:40:23):
For Us james judson's holiday album and his jazz album's.
Coming soon but it's the, holidays now So It's christmas
eve tonight and you can get it wherever you get your.
Digital music the greatest performance that you've ever seen. In
person because something, Motivated You, james judson to take your stake.
Speaker 15 (02:40:43):
In, MUSIC well i grew up with the Likes Of,
Frank Sinatra, Nakan Cole, ray charles but personally this might
blow your listener's. Minds through my greatest Live performance i've
seen by a singer Was definitely martina McBride years ago
(02:41:03):
when she came out with the Song. ABOUT america i
can't remember the name, of it but her voice was
INCREDIBLE and i was really taken aback by. Her performance
but she's still not my all time favorite. Country Singer That's,
patsy Kline but Martina McBride jebulin was, right there and
(02:41:24):
my wife might differ with me. On THAT and i
can never leave this conversation Without Mentioning, lady gaga who's
just so impressive to me as a, musical talent as,
A SINGER she's i think at one of the levels
that very few artists. A, team wow you're.
Speaker 38 (02:41:42):
As old School As frankie yankovic and new School Is?
Speaker 7 (02:41:44):
Lady, gaga, yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:41:46):
Who by, the Way Embraced tony bennett. Very clearly who's
playing on the house system, Right.
Speaker 7 (02:41:51):
Now Well.
Speaker 15 (02:41:52):
TONY bennett i forgot to. Mention him he was right
There with Frank And ray Charles And Naky Cole tony
bennett's been a. Wonderful voice, of course Him And lady
gaga did that duet album and it was just. Absolutely
FANTASTIC and i do have a song on my. Jazz
album the second song is, a cover one of only
two and it's pretty well made Famous By, tony Bennett
(02:42:14):
the Shadow Of, Your smile and we do a unique version,
of THAT and i think it's a, really.
Speaker 7 (02:42:19):
Good great version.
Speaker 38 (02:42:20):
Of, it actually do you sing in the shower all?
Speaker 7 (02:42:23):
The time.
Speaker 38 (02:42:25):
We're all singers in, the shower?
Speaker 9 (02:42:27):
Are?
Speaker 15 (02:42:27):
WE yeah i sing a lot in the showers because
most of my MUSIC that i write comes between three
and four am in. THE mornings i almost never write during.
The day i'm very unique. That way the music comes
during dreams and, the words most of, the keywords sometimes
almost all the words arrive in. A dream i immediately,
(02:42:47):
GET up i write the, words down sing, the melody
and then we're off to the races to make.
Speaker 6 (02:42:52):
