Dietro al racconto dello scienziato che crea un essere mostruoso assemblando pezzi di cadaveri, ci sono storie di umanità e di dolore che hanno molto da insegnarci. Chi era Mary Shelley, la brillante e tormentata autrice di questo romanzo immortale? Cosa abbiamo a che fare noi con uno studioso di arti profane? E cosa c'è di noi nella Creatura, che forse erroneamente chiamiamo "mostro"? Non è curioso che molte persone pensino che Frankenstein sia il nome della Creatura e non dello scienziato che le ha dato vita? Se non ci fosse stata l'eruzione del Tambora nel 1815, questa storia sarebbe mai stata scritta? Per rispondere a queste e ad altre domande, affronteremo i temi più disparati: genitorialità, fisiognomica, invidia del grembo, bruttezza, differenza di genere, tormenti creativi, strumentalizzazione politica e bioetica.
