I’ve always leaned on humor... sometimes in serious moments, too (which doesn’t always go over well). But I used to wonder, why am I wired this way? Comedian Jeff Foxworthy said he wrestled with that same question when he was younger.

Waiting can feel like the hardest part – especially when you’re waiting on an answer from God. James 1:5 says if you lack wisdom, ask God, and He will give it. But here’s what I’ve noticed: it doesn’t say how that wisdom will come… or when. And if you're anything like me, that “when” part can really test your patience.

Sometimes I wish I had a dashboard light that could warn me when my heart’s getting off track — like a little “pride building” or “forgiveness overdue” message. But as I was thinking about that this week, I realized God has given me a warning system: it’s the fruit I produce.

You know that awkward moment when you accidentally say "love you" at the end of a phone call... to your boss or a client? It happens!

Getting the flower beds ready for spring has me thinking about roots. I planted some new shrubs, and the instructions said they needed well-drained soil – because even a healthy plant, sitting too long in bad soil, will develop root rot. The plant might look fine on the outside for a while, but damage is happening underneath.

A second grade teacher asked her class to write about the most loving person they know. Some kids chose a parent or grandparent... but Brett chose God.

When life feels hard and you’ve been praying for things to get easier, it’s easy to wonder if something’s gone wrong. But someone recently reminded me that giving your heart to Jesus doesn’t save you from trouble – it saves you from sin.

When Trevor was just 9 years old, he got a diagnosis no child should ever hear - a brain tumor. What followed were nearly two years of weekly chemo treatments at Children’s Health. But this past September, he rang the bell to mark the end of treatment!

Now, at 11, Trevor has something new to celebrate.

We talked on the show today about this social experiment with 100 people and a bunch of balloons. Each person wrote their name on a balloon, tossed it into a room, and was told, “You’ve got 5 minutes – go find yours.” Total chaos. No one could find theirs.

But then the rules changed. Instead of finding their own, they were told to pick up a balloon and find the person it belonged to. And within minutes, everyone had the right one.

If you’ve ever tried to nap while parenting preschoolers, you know it’s almost impossible. You lay down, close your eyes… and immediately someone needs a snack, a shoe tied, or just wants to know if ants sleep.

But one mom found a genius hack!

I’d like to think there’s nothing I’d withhold from God. But when I stop and think about it, there are places in my life where I hesitate. If He asked for more of my money – would I give it? If He asked me to forgive someone – would I? What if He asked me to stop something I really like – would I let it go?

That question has been sitting with me: is there a line in my life that I don’t want God to cross?

Right after Easter, one of the first things Jesus did was show up for someone who didn’t believe.

When baby Millie was born with a rare brain disorder, doctors told her parents, Meg and Bill, she wouldn’t survive. So they brought her home on hospice and prayed for a miracle. And God answered.

I don’t usually forget to eat. I’ve got meals pretty much planned into my day – breakfast, lunch, dinner. And if I miss one? I feel it. I get hungry… or hangry, depending on who you ask. But I started thinking about this during Easter week, reflecting on the Last Supper and Jesus sharing a final meal with His disciples. It made me realize something.

Watching someone you love battle a long illness is so hard. And saying goodbye is even harder.

As we get closer to Easter, I’ve been thinking about something I hadn’t noticed before: where Jesus was positioned on the cross. Think about it: He was suspended between heaven and earth. Between a holy God and the people mocking, beating, and crucifying Him. And from that place, He didn’t call down judgment. He said, “Father, forgive them.”

I didn’t mean to end up in someone else’s FaceTime call... but here we are.

“Not my will, but Your will be done.” We’ve all heard that phrase, but the context really hit me recently. These weren’t words Jesus said while preaching to a big crowd. He said them alone, in the garden, just before being betrayed, arrested, and crucified. It wasn’t a moment of strength - it was a moment of surrender.
