the planet Krypton was destroyed by quakes and explosion. Superman
who can twist you you in his bare hands, leaped
tall buildings at a single bound racist beating bullets, wits
target who walked about among human beings as Champion of
the week, and the oppressed disguised as Clark Kent news reporter.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
A dark story opens today. Ender's return bridger Field.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
After solving the mystery of the wrecked airplane, we're about
to pick up a new assignment. You're then the private
office of city editor Perry White at the Daily Planet.
White is staring at him across the desk in some surprise. Listen,
and Neil honestly mean to tell me you've never heard
of Buffalo Hills.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Only just this minute? Chief, Nope? Fully, what is it?
A national game?

Speaker 5 (03:22):
Preserved?

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Buffalo Hills? Canter is about to become a national shrine.

Speaker 5 (03:26):
Oh, now, I remember it's where they carved the pictures
in the side of a mountain. Now you're waking up
enormous sculptures and scenes representing the early history of the
pioneers carved in granted, half a mile over the air
in the base of the cliff.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
As haven't they been at it for five years? More
than that? Now they finished? Next week comes to the
big un railing. Oh you like Buffalo.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
Hills, fine air, wonderful views. And of course that's Al
Carson State Al J. Carson, the reform governor. Oh so
that's what it is. You think there may be trouble, eh?

Speaker 1 (04:00):
I didn't say so.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Okay, I understand mister. Why Carson's had a fight on
his hands. Cleaned up the state. There's a certain gang
that's worn together him. It wasn't he shot at just
last week? Yes, for the third time. He's in a
heavy police card wherever he goes.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Now, if I were a crook and wanted to get
a well known public figure, well, what would you do.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
I'd pick a time when he was out in the
open with lots of people.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
Yes, So, now for instance, the ceremonies at Buffalo Hills
where Governor Carson will make the chief address. Say uh
huh ceo wife, Oh hat?

Speaker 1 (04:39):
But what was he? Oh?

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Yes, yes, certainly I know him, certainly. All right, letterclock,
All right, mister, I'll be running along. Then I had
to get tickets and expense money and stick around again.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Whoever me days a hatch? The old man who takes pictures.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
He's an old friend of mine again, pioneer indianviter, scientist, scholar,
probably the best landscape photographer in the company. And besides that,
he's a regular amateur detective. What you heard me, amateur
sherlock home also volunteer traveling correspondent for the Daily Planet.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
You'd better stick.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
Around and meet him care and like as I had to,
are scared. I have no idea he wasn't done.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Perry might, dear dear fellow, the very man I want
to come in and show the door. Can't follo up
a chair, I hear Perry the story of a lifetime
front page.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
Absolutely, you listen down and stop bubbling like a fountain.
Leave one of my bright young men walk in. How
do you de nighted? John Perry stopped the presses. How
long before you go to day me or the paper?
The paper ten minutes ago? What's on your eye?

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Sensation?

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Believe me, you look at me, Perry and mister Kent destiny,
that's it. Observe me up and down and sideways? Do
I appear dangerous? Dishes?

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Dangers? What are you talking about? Is there anything about
me to StEB people to range homicide of frending?

Speaker 5 (06:02):
I'fraid I don't the words of one syllable? Is there
any reason why anyone you want to kill?

Speaker 1 (06:06):
And kill you here? So what are you talking about with,
my dear fellow. I'm doing my best to tell you kindly,
don't interrupt. Merely listen. Yes, yes, we're listening, said, don't interrupt.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
I arrived in this metropolis of jobs from the south
and went to the station to purchase a ticket for
the West to be explicit.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
For Boulder sits Boulder City. Are you going out to
Bubblo Hills? Of course, my dear fellow.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
If you insist on interrupting, I shall take myself and
my story to the Daily Express.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
It's merely the cat's going out the boulders that he
do you'll.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Become me borer. Certainly, Perry, if he enjoys traveling with
a corpse? What the word was corpse? One who has
departed this life?

Speaker 5 (06:41):
Oh, he's a look here, would you mind telling us
what in Heaven's thing you're talking about at all?

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I've been trying to for some minutes. Then? What is it?
My hat? What? My hat? There it is? Look at it,
mister ken't you look at it right? Well?

Speaker 5 (06:56):
The word looks all right, mister hatch a little dusty
on one side. The natural consequence of being plucked from
the gutter. And what was it doing in the gutter?

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Dying there? Gentlemen, after being shot from my head? What
shot from your head? Might?

Speaker 5 (07:10):
So?

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Look at it closely?

Speaker 5 (07:12):
The hole in the crown, Yes, that hole was made
by a bullet. Want, please, Perry or a Marx have
a certain monotony? The last three have been fought bottom.
I don't understand, Perry. I came out of the station,
walked by an alley, and someone shot my head hat
off with a right.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Ears but to a whole dinner? And why they paid
you for a gangster? How do you know it was
a rifle? And please, gentlemen, one at a time.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
I don't know who did it, or why, or whether
they took me for a gangster. And I merely guessed
that a rifle will use why because I saw no
sign of the perpetrator and heard no shot too far
from a pistol. And now then what I should like
to know is what next, mister Hatch. Have you reported
this to the police.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Not so far, mister Kent. I prefer to come straight
to my old friend.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
Quite as I said before, front page story, distinguished photographer
shot in dark, attempted murder in the night? Well, Perry
as when it has happened this evening, barely twenty minutes ago.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Have you been anywhere since I told you? I came
straight here. I walked across the.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
Park and here I act the window the dickens, I said,
the Hatch stand back when we get back.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Are you hurt? No? No, I think not, mister White.
That was a bullet.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
Someone fired a bullet at mister Hatch through the window.
Call the police, call the press room, get out there
and do something again.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
I'm going, mister White, Hey, you went out there, get
in here. Call the place.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
No, no, no, no, don't call a PLA. How then,
out of sight in the hall, and I think it's
time Clark can change in the Superman. I did a
little detective work. That was a bullet. I know just
about where it came from.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Out of these clothes, up with.

Speaker 6 (08:49):
The window and out we go, out and away.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
And then that shot came through the window and hit
the wall across the office near the ceiling. So whoever
it was fired it from below and almost directly opposite.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Down we go down down to that empty floor in
the lot across from the Planet building. Down down down
on that ledge. Hope I make a good landing.

Speaker 5 (09:25):
Here we go.

Speaker 7 (09:30):
Almost slip that time, and which they make these ledges
a little broader six inches wide and forty feet above
the street. Now, then if I can just joe along
a bit, I think that's an open window just ahead.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
It is open, just an inch or two. Something's coming
out of it.

Speaker 7 (09:51):
It's a rifle, Scott, He's gonna try again that lighted
window when the White's office.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
Is a perfect target. Oh no, you don't, my friend,
Not twice in the same place. Not while Superman's around.
Time for crawling at the burst in there and knock
that gun.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Down now through the window, Hey, what for done that gun?
Where'd you come from? I said, for down that gun.
I won't say it again. You'll bet you won't say
it again. Don't come across, all right? No good? Bullets
just bounce and so will you? Hey you? What are

(10:28):
you doing? Get right?

Speaker 6 (10:29):
Get right?

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Talk and talk fast? Why did you shoot an a's
a hatch? What do you know? Why he's a hat?

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Why did you shoot him? Who sent you here? That's so,
and I'm making it my business. I told you want
to before to drop that gun?

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Get get away. I won't talk. You can't let me.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
The police will be here in a minute. Here the
downstairs already talk. I said talk.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Let me go. I've got you. I don't got you.
I won't give you another chance. Look out for that gun.
Got me to watch out. I'm going quick. Listen what
is this quick? Someone's coming. I'm going I'll talk now

(11:10):
quick quick? Yes, glory cause who's glorious?

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Yes? Get hatch? Laura, Yes, gone. I think I can
do for now. I can't be found here either. More
secondary polling through that door, out the window, out.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
We go back to the panel office.

Speaker 5 (11:37):
Away.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
I can't understand that.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
I can't understand where he went to get the police
and find out what's going on.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
A man. Ah, there he is speaking angels, Perry, and
you have the patter of there. We can't, can't come
in well of life where you're we wi.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
They got him, They got the man who did the
shooting course work, who was it? I can't tell you
that he was hiding in an empty lots across the
street when the watchman broke in a corner. Then me
shot himself out himself. Why nobody knows.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Mister Kent.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
Did he have any remark to make on the reason
for the shooting. Mister Hatche did say something. He mentioned
two names. Ah, what were they?

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Flores? He said, Flores and.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
Then Carson rs great Scott, you mean now Carson the
governor beyond Now go on mister again, mister Hatch, that's all.
It was all he said. What were his exact words? Then,
as near as I remember, he said, they sent me
Flores Cars.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
I don't believe it. It can't be true.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Carson, the governor of the state sending gunment the murder
inner some people back east.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
It can't be the governor. Oh, it isn't. Therery, it isn't.
But Florrees Florre's I know him well. He grew but
one of the gun against Gules to hatch. What's it
all about, my dear mister kin, I have a decised idea,
but I can promise you one thing. You said something
about paddling west with me to bowld A City. Yes,
that's right, he's covering a celebration with Buffalo Hills. Yeah.

(13:08):
Or what is it great Scott look here? Or trouble
of Bolo City?

Speaker 5 (13:13):
What Governor Carson's automobile right in a head on smash?
Was he hurt?

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Just a few stretches? And he lucky? Just how lucky?
Even he doesn't know? Yes, as I was saying, mister Kent,
won't your trip to Buffalo Hills for the celebration? What
about is? Whatever else it may be, it won't be done,
Oh dear me.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
No. And as far as celebrations are concerned, mister Kent,
I think, I say, I think you can prepare more
for something like.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
The fourth of July.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
Mystery piling on mystery? What is Ayesha Hat talking about?
Who is bet Flora? What is the connection between Forays
and Governor Carson? And why should anyone train a rifle
on an elderly Anderson photographer June in next time and
follow the story.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Of Superman up at the sky. Whoop, it's a bird,
it's a brain, It's Superman.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Superman is a copyrighted picture appearing in Action Comics magazine.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
All right, everybody, welcome back.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Well.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
I love how at the beginning the narrator references the
Bridger filled storyline, and I always love when they reference
a past storyline. It really gives this sort of continuity
to the show. We also have the introduction of this
somewhat eccentric character, Hatch, and that whole scene where he

(14:51):
was trying to explain to Perry White and Clark Kent
what was going on, and he kept blaming them or
accusing them of interrupting, and it's like, dude, if you
would just get to the point and stop beating around
the bush, they wouldn't have to keep interrupting you. But

(15:12):
that was obviously for the benefit of the kids listening
at home, to sort of prolong the suspense and to
really juice things up. The problem that I have with it, though,
is that it was so over the top obvious what
they were doing that that was just annoying. He just

(15:36):
took forever to get to the point, and people were like,
what's going on, and he's like, my hat, my hat.
It's like, dude, just say just say what you need
to say and stop beating around the bush. But oh well, anyways,
Hatch references I came to this metropolis of yours, and

(16:02):
I don't think that we've been given a name of
the city that the Daily Planet is supposed to be
residing in, but it is interesting that he refers to
the city as a metropolis. That may be a foreshadowing
of the forecoming name of the city that the Daily
Planet is located in. We also have Superman track down

(16:27):
this bad guy and we get the name Floor Race,
so something about Floor Race being behind this. We also
hear that Carson, Governor Carson has been in a wreck,
and we're given the promise by Hatch. I believe that
this adventure is not going to be dull, so we're

(16:48):
in for an exciting, interesting adventure here. Definitely looking forward
to it. I think that there's just six parts in
this storyline. Yes, this is only a six part and
just like most of the storylines have been so far,
and so we'll see what happens. All right, everybody, we

(17:10):
are going to take a quick break and then we'll
be right back with part two of Buffalo Hills. All right,
let's go ahead and get into Part two of Buffalo Hills.
This one aired May fifteenth of nineteen forty.

Speaker 8 (17:30):
Enjoy the dription feature Superman the same, just Superman, Oh Superman,
Damien of the Week, and your friend bad young spider

(17:52):
board who's unjusted with faster than an airplane, longer than
a local moment. I'm from tern Cellar State, who walked
to the Earth as a man among men, disguised A
mild part Kent news reporter for the Daily Planet, the
last Jay m Superman as park Tent was about to
leave for Boulder City, far out in the Buffalo Hills,

(18:12):
where a national monument was to be dedicated.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
In one week's Times he received his assignment.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
An unexpected visitor appeared, and the person of Caesa Hack,
elderly scientist and photographer.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
He said that he too, plans to shifts of Buffalo Hills.

Speaker 5 (18:27):
Even as he stood at the window of editor White's office,
a shot crashed through the glass, barely missing him. Following
the line of a bullet superman leaped into the darkness
and straight into an empty lost across the street. A
struggle that followed, the unknown rifleman was killed, gasping out
the names of death. Florid Western badman L. J. Carson
reformed governor of the western state in which the monument.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Would be dedicated, and her story continued. Two days of.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Pack, the train carrying Canadasa Hack is roaring westward at
a small race station not far from Boulder to the
two men awaited to pass. One of them is Dodgy again,
a member of the Gloria's gang. The other is flore himself.

(19:18):
Is how long got She's down to the end of
the platform. Don't forget the suitcase right, and don't fow it.
I'm like that, But Pineapple is there, will blow.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
You sky high. Listen what you got against this New States?
What you can't? Not much. I haven't heard much about him,
But what legal I hear is plenty. Look what he
did to me. You can't do that.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
So I'm cold. Maybe it was luck and maybe it
was whatever it was. We don't want no party without heat,
not who we get, so we passed. When it coming
on mid night to night, I mean looking for that thing,
I would have lost. These guys are first the other one.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
The other guy is.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
An old bird by the name patch about here. Once
before what did was played? And we want plenty crown
not meant or not, But that don't make this time.
I ain't take no chance. Come programs get down down

(20:29):

on over bisuit case. Every dazy there? How do I
do you ride the rods fixed pineapple on the car
three eighty four, go as part of island poles and
get off and meet me in bold a seque it

(20:52):
as what's a guy?

Speaker 1 (20:54):
If you watch the cars.

Speaker 5 (20:56):
Country numbers there is and that's really then the cheek
quick quick, don't see you?

Speaker 1 (21:02):
When do us? I'll get on right tight quick quick, okay,
all right, oh a right, thank you. I'm a natural
born tabling this again. If you never need cheating, that
excuse me your health.

Speaker 5 (21:21):
You say down the hatch, you eat the hats, my
shoulder stup?

Speaker 1 (21:30):
You stay long at this case, which should mean of it?
You know? All right, conversation, No.

Speaker 5 (21:42):
Little ports, little corks. Well it's little enough, but I.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Don't see the ports. They're in the water.

Speaker 5 (21:49):
When there is any water, which there isn't right now. Oh,
I look at that duck, you bad and dams save
us again, you fams. I'm just as glad I'm riding
the chair. Cuts are not the rod?

Speaker 1 (22:02):
No, how about some more elimonade? No, thank you once another.
I have certainly brak it down.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
Yes, as I have the same reformist again, I very
sure decided that the law was not for me.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
So I went in begining thinkings in there I'd been
never seen. Then you must have done a bit of
traveling here and there. I was a bonus. Yes, you
been there, you've been there.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
In fact, the last time I was out in Bowler
City acuse many years ago, that was I had a
very curious experience.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
Would you like to hear it? I say, would you
like to hear about it? Huh?

Speaker 5 (22:41):
And what I said, would you like to hear about
my experiences? The last time I was in Bold I said, Oh,
I beg your pardon.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Oh, my dear fellow, you are suddenly absorbed. Is anything
the matter, mister Hatch? Do you hear anything? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (22:58):
We know the usually look pad to wheels to listen
directly under us. Isn't there a sort of metallic clinking. Wait,
my idea, it's probably something happy. He's changing his posse. No, no, no,
really idea, I can't. I don't hear a thing. And
if I did, ride on, I mean and don't hear

(23:23):
it now myself. Well, sir, you'll excuse men and my god,
just drop.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
In on the smoking car. You get to come along? No,
thank you, No, I should read it then, making that
all right, and I won't belong back in ten minutes.
Thank you time, Thank you time. Don't get the boats
and use any that time. My name career.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
If you ask me, I could have sworn there was
someone under the car making an adjustment with tools. I
wonder whether Superman should invest the gate. H Wait, there
it is again. There is someone. He's under this car.
It's riding the run, so that is normal. That isn't

(24:12):
all he's doing. I'll have a look at this. Someone's
look a shot at hatch back east. It's just barely possible.
He might be trying something else right now, I'll open
this door, leave it open so I.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Get back in again. Now, then that doesn't how can
we go out over the train and uh aster to
get my bearings.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
I'll just drop down and skim along under the cars
or right alongside. Now we go down right next to
the train. Now money of cinders, doesn't let's see nobody
back there, Davin, this is the car we were in
patch and I there is someone there so tramp on

(25:05):
the rocks and he's doing something.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Wow, we assume he came out of that. Hey there,
what that to comfortable? I see you think? Come out
of that? Come on, I'm going crazy. Then the guys
five along with the train. Do you want me to
come in there and get you? All right? How do
you like this? Don't let me along? I'll go. I'll
go on to the wheel. Do you want I don't? Quick,

(25:30):
that's it, Come along with me? How can we go
and away? What are you doing? Why are you taking it.

Speaker 6 (25:43):
Just for a ride?

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Don't be writing? What were you doing under that car?
You're not honest? That's just the trouble. Quick, Now what
were you doing? I tell you I wanted to do nothing.
I would just five the rots, I got all the
little form. What's your name? That's again?

Speaker 5 (25:57):

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Why well? Now dropping down doing dutchee and I'm dropping
you right into it. What were you doing out of
that train? I want to do nothing? All right? Down?
Your not yet going ashore? Doe, Come on you What

(26:31):

Speaker 5 (26:33):
Unless you want another man? Missus s What do you

that train?

Speaker 1 (26:44):

When they're going off either way? When the train leaves,
I was formed? Why not the way?

Speaker 5 (26:56):

Speaker 3 (27:13):

Speaker 5 (27:49):
That car to pieces now then come out of that
terror looms all right, got it right and off the doors.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
Down into the river. I'm just a five.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
Oh there kin let your spoke. Oh yes, yes, thanks
for that mind the way. Did you give back now
exposed a moment ago the back of the windows.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Yes, yes, I heard it.

Speaker 5 (28:29):
I think it was blasting blasting down by the river.
Tell me something, mister Hatch that follow flories. Would he
have an in for you in any way?

Speaker 1 (28:40):
Sorries, k yes, Sorries yes. What do he have an
in for you and Governor Carson?

Speaker 5 (28:45):
Well, since you asked me, ken, yes he would any definitely,
he would have it in for both of us.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
And when does this train get to Boulder City? Nearly?

Speaker 3 (28:55):
You?

Speaker 5 (28:55):
Now?

Speaker 1 (28:55):
I would, I'm time? Why did you la nothing? Stop?
We might make a call on the governor, mister Hatch
telling what happened? Is well? Back east you read I do, sir,
And I'll tell you something else too. I hope we
are on time.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
What does aisther Hatch know or suspect? What danger threatens
Governor Carson in Boulder City at the hands of Peter
Florenes and his gang and Can Clark agent or Superman
reached the governor in time to water off eunion.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
Next time and follow the story.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
Up to the sky book.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
It's a bird, it's the grain, It's Superman.

Speaker 5 (29:49):
Superman is a copywriter's feature appearing in Action Comics Magazine.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
All right, so I got a few comments here like usual,
and then we'll wrap up. So I love how when
Clark and Asa Hatch are on the train. I love
how Clark, who is of course Superman as we know,
he hears Dutchy Gans underneath the train doing something. And

(30:22):
I think that that really alludes to Superman's power of superhering.
Even though it's nothing like what we would see in
Smallville or something like that, or Christopher Reeve or whatever,
it's still there. It's a keen sense of hearing. It's
a better sense of hearing than a normal human being,

(30:42):
and that's why he can hear what dutchy Gans is doing,
but Asa Hatch cannot. Also, we see Clark make a
reference or as part of his excuse to leave Asa Hatch,
he says he's going to the smoke car now. That
would never fly in the fifties and beyond. In fact,

(31:06):
they made George Reeves well, I don't know if they
made them, but he quit smoking when he took on
the role of Superman for the Adventures of Superman in
the nineteen fifties television show. And this being nineteen forty

(31:28):
smoking is still seen as pretty, you know, not that
bad of a thing, and the culture hasn't become more sensitive.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
To that yet.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
We also, and we may have had this before, I
can't remember, but we have this really nice voice transition
as Clark is talking and he's slowly transformed from Clark
to Superman.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
A mighty queer. If you ask me, I could have
sworn there was someone.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
Under the car and making an adjustment with tools. I
wonder whether Superman should investigate. Wait, there it is again.
There is someone that is.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
Just so cool, and Bud Collier is just getting better
and better at that every time. We also have the
introduction of Dutchy Gans, who works for Floor Race, and
we have some rough and tough golden age Superman justice
here where Superman basically scares duchy Gans have to death

(32:38):
in order to get the information from him. Whether you
like it or not, that is your golden age Superman.
And we're left with the question will Clark and Asa
will they be able to reach the Governor in time
before Floor Rays is able to harm him. You know,

(33:01):
so far, I'm really liking this storyline. A lot of
good mystery and a lot of goods set up for
adventure and I'm really liking it. Really want to see
how this turns out. All right, everybody, That is going
to be a wrap for today. Thank you so much
for listening again. If you have any comments, you can send.

Speaker 5 (33:20):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
