Speaker 1 (01:42):
Forty, presenting the transcription feature Superman Olpoop, Guy Oh's the
room in Sane, It's Superman and now Superman Champion of
(02:02):
the Week and the Oppress Dalliant fight her court, truth
and justice, who was faster than an airplane, stronger than
a locomotive, who comes from Interstellar's face, but who walks
the Earth as mild Clark Kent used reporter for the
Daily Planet. When we last saw him, Superman as Clark
Ken had come to Boulder City in the Buffalo Hills
with old AASA hat scientists and photographer who covered the
(02:25):
dedication of a new national monument. On their way west,
they had discovered a plot against the reform Governor L. J. Carson,
and Kant had allowed himself to be carried off by
the gang in the Governor's place in the hope of
learning their plan. The gang had thrown him in the
lake and less him, not until Kenned overheard them say
that the gang chief himself de Flores, was back at
(02:46):
the executive mansion. Hearing the worst, Kennedd broken his bonds,
flashed upward out of the water, and returned only to
find the governor gone. As our story continues today, Superman
is still running through the silent rooms, calling, coming to Carson,
all right, govern to Carson, Governor, sign of it. At
(03:08):
the door of that closet wasn't damaged. He hadn't even
forced the lock. What's that footsteps? Someone's coming? It's that
devil Flores, whoever it is, is coming down the hall
outside the door. I'll change back to Clark Kent till
I know who it is. We're all doing that, Pellow,
Wait a minute, who's that back of the curtain? Gosh?
(03:30):
Is that your Governor's a hatch? And my damn fellow
coming awhere? Have you been? What's happened hatch? What's been
going on? From what my old friend Conson tells me?
We all have a little explaining to do. I thing
we have, we're beginning we do, young man, I'm sand
you a newspaper man named Clark Kent. That's right, Governor,
say arm Monty. Sorry, I had a lot in that closet.
I didn't want to, but it was just touch and gold.
(03:52):
What you did to my chin? Who touch and gold? Well?
I forgive me to tell me it was all in
a good course. But what happened to you? Where did
you go? Same to you, young man? What happened to you? Wait? Governor?
About five seconds after I locked you up, the gang
came in the window. One carted me off. My dear fellow,
who was he? Our old pal Dutch again. Hatch remember
Dutchy in DJs. Well, Dutchy and his pal breezed in
(04:13):
the window, stepped the bag over my head and carried
me away in the car. But what then, how did
you get do? Oh? I don't know. I just they
got tired of something. Anyway, they rolled me out and
I came back and here I am, But look, how
did you get out of that closet? When I came
to after a while and began kicking and yelling, and
the God came in and heard. And of course the
first thing I tried to do was called for the police,
and I couldn't why not. That was the first thing
(04:33):
that suggested you might have been right then. So I
caught off my car and I went down the headquarter
the question and the first person he saw, my dear fellow, myself. Yeah.
Luckily they were giving all the kings a tough examination.
He wanted to know where he came from, and all that, Oh,
tremendous excitement, jail, great business escaped. They thought I might
have arranged it?
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Can me?
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Anyway? I got catch out of there. We came right back. Yes,
And what I want to know now is what in
the name of time is going on. It's a long story.
I won't call you with it. I'll just say this,
Flori is a of a murderer, and I might be
fellow one the best or I was elected. You loked
about brand this territory. I swore that I put him
in the whole gang out of business, and mean while
he's doing his best to put you out of business.
(05:13):
Day Well, I've gotten Rico praying. He was Gloria's right
hand man. It's just a matter of times, like a
Florid is himself unless he gets you first, Governors, that is,
he won't and that sort of rat hasn't alerve. And
what about tonight, Well you said yourself Florie's wasn't there?
That the work again and really cost And I don't
think it happens anyway. They must so that's that. Oh no,
(05:34):
don't you believe it? What this beakame? What do you mean? Governor?
You've got to be careful. I heard them talking tonight
while they were driving me off, and I'm telling you
this is just the beginning. They've got something else up
this leave and I don't know, but they're counting on it.
Because if I were you, I should keep to myself
out of the public guy until this fellow prize has
finished with once and for all. That's right. Can't do that.
(05:54):
Even if I would, the way it would be the
most powerful thing I could pick it, I couldn't do
for my dear And why not from Buffalo Hills ceremonies.
Have you forgotten what you came out here for? Governor?
Can't you get out of that? Absolutely impossible? Thousands of
people here from all over the country. I'm making the
principles he has dedicating the Pioneers National Monument just the same, Governor,
(06:17):
you will be taking an awful chance. Why it's a
perfect setup for anybody that wanted to get you, all right,
can't after all, we can't live forever, you know. Come in, Governor,
I thank your pardon. Well, it's Lieutendant Maxim. Governor, I'm
mighty side to bother you with. Just have a bime
to bed if I was in bed. But I'm not together, gentlemen,
(06:38):
he's pretended Max one of the guard officers out of
Buffalo Hills, Buffalo Hills at the National Monument. Yes, Maximum,
today's I have to picture man and Clark can support
him with the daily tennant. So then what's your first thing, Governor?
You know your wires are country. I did, and I do.
Go on, all right, said Grenel Poles, totally to get
(07:00):
right in here and give you a special message. Connel
home the superintendent officer, and then Big Charb head of
construction and of engineering, head of the guard. Go on
to tennant Governor. It may seem a little queer, but
the Colonel called me a while ago and said for
me to come right into Boulder City and get you.
Get me. Yes, he wants me to bring you out
of the monument. Said it was important, and not to
(07:21):
pay you what i'd heavens man, I know, I know,
I seem square and all that, but you know, the
colonel said, I do. There's levelhead of the manage of
the world. It is Governor here. So you're surely not
going dangerous. My dear power got down. Yes, I drove
(07:43):
in myself. If you're right back to the monum and
bring home again. All right, we're on our way over,
and look here, you don't need to come along. What
miss the story in the makings, and you don't know
you all right? I guess the car will vote for
quick letter sticking down the corn playing you know, there's
lighted all the way to the end. Would have sworn,
(08:06):
don't we've got a chance to see what the new
Pioneer's national moneyment looks like by move either way back.
But the Governor was right. There was a form stealing
silently in the darkness out of the lighted car under
the treacherous secretary Hegan, who learned what was doing, and
(08:28):
who visited the car of the guard officers and the
courtyard below, who crept through the shadows, who placed a
certain small object well down in the cushions of the
rear seat, an object which would stay hidden and unnoticed
till the car reached the most dangerous portion of the
mountain road, and then do its work, still hidden, still unnoticed.
(08:56):
How are you up front there? All right? Okay, thanks Goving.
I was, mister Hatch almost escape and I find the
motion unusually soon getting up there, Andrew Maxim, Yes, the
governor getting out of shop. That's why I closed the windows.
I got there is that's some fuel. Say wake up
(09:20):
with you? What what did you say? I say, look
at that fuel. I'd like to photograph that. Huh, Hey,
that's something all right? Gosh, we're right on the edge
of nothing. How far down is it? What you say? Boy,
I'm worse than old days. Are we getting to the monument? Yeah? Hey,
(09:46):
that's what you're doing with you, Greg Scott. I almost
clocked off, I'll say you did. We were heading straight
for the guardrail. How far down did you say?
Speaker 5 (09:55):
That was?
Speaker 1 (09:55):
From here? Governor? Hey, that's funny, head both the sleep
there had Hey, what's going on? What's happening? Max? And
what's what you're doing? You're heading for the rail. We'll
go over the cliff, Max, You look out. I can't
(10:16):
say much of this good thing? Is a solid steel
body hid for Superman? A head charge up the door up? Yeah.
Now they're fully clear off the cliff and down into
the valley. But be a thousand. He got to dive
down down and that car is horn hit dow dow
two hundred five hundred. Hold look there now that I haven't.
(10:41):
I want the car now back to the road up
about before they know what happened up up by the
way up here? Yeah? What happened? What's going on?
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Can I see?
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Can't what happened? Why are you driving? Of course the
matter with Max, it's all right, governors, we had a
little accent, went through the guardrail. Everybody fell asleep. Must
have been a league in exhauce. Yes, came up in
the cart that we went through the car. Figure night,
it's right and narrows. The car got banged up a
little lucky it still runs. Oh, here comes Max and around. No,
(11:18):
we're all present in the count I don't understand. Don't
ask me, governor. I guess we should have left the window. Woman,
you mean to shave should I can't believe if we
went through the card rail and didn't go over the
crypt iraculous. I don't remember a thing. Say you've can
pull up now, mister can't. That's the office. We've got
to the moduling. If you ask me, we're money lucky.
(11:39):
After we got back on the road, I didn't think
this whole buggy go at all yard where I'm a little.
I guess what about I am appeared to have been
sadly bumped and bruised by him in personal persons unknown.
Why against the colonel's still up his lights on, come
(11:59):
on in waiting, know what's going on the way nice,
This is the office of bose quarters. I mean that
he'd be waiting for us if he did. It's a
light in the room and knock again, probably fall on
(12:22):
the street. Give it a good bang, gentlemen, I think
we better break in the door, right really you, what
do you mean? I'm afraid something's happened. Someone's been here
before us. Yes, he's right, cross and break it down.
Who says? By all means go ahead? Pass here, I'll
come on. It's going on again. But there he is.
(12:49):
He's sitting right at his desk, a sleep turtle bold board.
Knock any No, he.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
Doesn't hear us. You'll never hear anything again, right him.
Someone has been here before us? And the question now
is who and what would both have told us? If
he's being allowed to live? Sudden appalling mystery of the
Pioneer's National Monument.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
There's a hatwright. Did someone call on Colonel bolds to
make sure that he kept silent forever? And if so,
what had he found out? What strange piece of news
that made him call the governor in the dead of knight?
And above all, what terrible danger unknown to everyone creeps
down on Governor Carson. Tune in next time and follow
the story of Superman up the sky. Look, it's a bird,
(13:43):
it's the brain, it's Superman. Superman is a copyrighted picture
appearing in Action Comics magazine.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
All right, so we have some nice little bit of
dialogue here where the characters explained a little bit what's
happened to the governor and so forth. And it turns
out that the governor's okay, and Hatch is out of jail,
and they got a group together and they're on their
way in a car and something mysteriously tries to put
(14:19):
them all asleep. I suspect that this was carbon monoxide,
but at any raised some kind of gas. And we
also find out, if we didn't know before, that carbon
monoxide or gas has no effect on Superman, which is
good because Superman is the only one in the car
(14:42):
who is left unaffected by it. And we have this
amazing rescue seen here where Superman flies out the window,
jumps out the window as the car is tumbling over
the cliffs, and he rescues the car, excues the people
in the car, and you can just sort of picture
(15:03):
this in your mind. This is the beauty of audio,
the beauty of radio, where obviously we can't visually see
this scene happening, but we can visualize it in our
minds of this car sort of maybe turning over and
banging against the cliff as it's falling down, and Superman
(15:25):
swooping in to save the day. Pretty pretty cool. We
also have another cliffhanger here where we found out that
what was it Colonel Burrows. I believe something like that
he had something to.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Tell them, but he is.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
Dead, and so who did it?
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Well?
Speaker 3 (15:47):
I suspect it was Floor Race or his henchman. All right, everybody,
we are going to take a quick break and then
we'll be right back with Part six of Buffalo Hills. Okay, everybody,
welcome back. Let's go ahead and get into Part six
(16:10):
of Buffalo Hills, the final episode of this storyline, and
this one aired May twenty fourth of nineteen forty.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Enjoy presenting the transcription feature Superman Up in the Sky Coops.
It's Superman now Superman Valiant, fighter for truth and Justice,
(16:42):
Champion of the Week, and the Oppressed who has appeared
on Earth from the outer reaches of the universe with
a physical structure never before attained by mortal men. Superman
who is longer than a locomotive, faster than a speeding
bullet walked about among human beings. As Miles Stark can't
use reporter for the Daily Planet. We last thought him
(17:04):
kent as the Hatch and Governor Carson were in the
office of the Superintendent in Buffalo Hills and answered to
an urgent summoned, only to find that the Superintendent, with
some of them, was mysteriously dead. Our story continues today.
Some time has passed. It is the morning of the
dedication ceremony that the new Pioneer's National Monument can't pleading
(17:25):
with the Governor not to take part. Listen, well, there
goes the clerk. Gentlemen, half past ten. If we're going
to be ready for the great unveiling at noon, better
be on our way. Governor, Please, I'm not talking to
my hat honest. Now, look here, you've been talking for
the past half hour, and you haven't yet produced a
single valid reason why I shouldn't go to Buffalo Hill. Oh,
(17:47):
my dear Carson, that's hardly ten. Look here, say two
nights ago the superintendent was mysteriously killed. Since then, too,
watchmen have fallen off the base of the cliff. How
that doesn't prove something's going to happen today, do please?
He's right, my dear fellows. So I look here. You've
been taking pictures of the cliff. Happened from various angles.
Who is indeed for the last two days where you
haven't noticed anything queer?
Speaker 5 (18:07):
Have you?
Speaker 1 (18:07):
We have cars in the dask of the pot would
hardly appear in a photograph, all right, But nobody else
knows that anything queer either, and we've had guards all
over the place. Governor Floris is a dangerous man, and
he is up to something, and I'm convinced of it.
You don't think you show his hand, do you? I
warn you, sir, don't go out of those ceremony today.
Don't do it? Seriously my idea, how do I share
mister Ken's opinion? You mustn't do it. On the contrary,
(18:29):
I must do I confounded. Do you realize what's going
on today? Fifteen thousand people from all over the country
are here at Buffalo Hills to what that dedication? Greggst
group of carvings of the world's ever seen half of
my love on the face of the cliff. I've got
to be there to welcome you. Now come along. Cars
are waiting down below let's be on our way, Governor. No, no,
(18:50):
no more arm going. But Kevin Hatch, you are right.
Even as the cars of the Governor's party wind through
the mountain, taught the scene of the dedication deadly danger.
Wake up Buffalo Hill, in the tunnel, in the cliff
above and beyond the giant poppings on the stone, Lauren
box with that you dan and make those final pie. Yes,
(19:16):
what you're doing with me?
Speaker 5 (19:17):
I just said the last fews that you are ready
rock behind the cot quite below is when they go.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
On the stands.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
You let me under the cleat. When they pip forth,
you fall and the gut it home and fall any
cropped to she but.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
They'll see it. They always diameter.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
No, No, he's more clean.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
I am in the mount that you are a jot
just enough to start a how you say, Atlas share why?
And I don't know any tons and tons of rocks
they come down spike top of the cliff. The noise,
Oh I did anyone when the rocks topple, click, they said,
oh more chart all the charges back of the car
(20:02):
right over the head of the Governor. That she wait
and see when it doesn't happen at no.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Gun goes off in the valley.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Then I totally switch seel like here and that sets
off the avalanche on the mountain.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
And now when the gun goes some time goes fast.
Speaker 5 (20:20):
They amico already the crowd collects down there.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
What are you gonna do?
Speaker 5 (20:26):
Are you gonna get a waiter's down? You will wait
in the car that she will be plied for where
we aflect the car, for he passed three days, but
you won't have time to day a car. Three minutes
before the crash came. I totally switched, and then I
on getting the car. We go fast and after it
is although hooly man, but seeing car and peopro, maybe
(20:47):
they can get.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Lost in that land. She sure nothing slips, so so
we leave me a ego. Nothing can sleep. Now when
the gun goes off on me. You hear what I say?
Speaker 5 (21:00):
It speaks to the end for governor, help me mix
the last fuels.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Then go well, hatch anything new that's till part ken.
Have you discovered anything? Ah can't see things. I'm just
as sure as I am that I'm standing here that
something's going to happen. They're cheering the government. What's the
(21:28):
time doing twelve, and look they're reading that edegrated saluting
cannon up into position. Well, whatever happens, we'll no sooner now,
who stop worrying? Look at these pictures, ken enlargements of
the photographs I took yesterday. Nice work. All right? Here,
what's the little dot up on the corner there? Let
me see you? Oh yes, that's a car. It seems
(21:51):
to be in this picture too, workman, I imagine where'd
you take this from, Hatch? Just about here, my dear fellow,
practically the same angle. Yes, right, juvenire, is that car again?
Look up there on the cliff, right now? Where? Oh yes,
I see it up there just above the cliff again?
Does anything wrong? What are you looking at? Nothing? Nothing
(22:14):
at all has didn't come along. We better get to
our place and go ahead, Hatch. I'll be right with you.
Save me a seat for Liveran. But what are you doing?
Where are you going? Don't wait, you go ahead.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
I just want to see somebody, I should say, I
do want to see somebody. I want to see the
man in that car on the cliff. Good things, Superman
has telloscopic eye tied. Quick now I'll tuck back of
these rocks. Nobody'll see me here. Up we go, up up,
(22:47):
Thanks Heaven for hatches pictures. I'd never have noticed that
car is the same one they use the kidnap me
and and the man in it. I'm not sure yet.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Yes, I am too a man and it is that
you can. I'll look out for yourself. Dutchy, here I come, Hey, hey,
where you comes from? High? You've seen me be poor?
Remember what happened to you? Where's Pete Floris? And what's
he doing? Quick? Dutchey? Talk no, no, no, hous walk
how walk? He's in the tunnel. What tunnel? Right over there?
(23:19):
He's gonna start an avalanche when the gun goes on.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Hot, when the gun goes off, keep talking, man, rock,
they'll come down off the mountain, hit the top of
the cliff end quick, don't stop, Floyd.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
He'll expose the whole way. The avalanche is touching on. Yeah,
the plim will fall in. The Governor Florid is in
the tunnel right now. That's all I need to know.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
I'll handle the.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Rash and Florrie is cool down that tunnel fast here
you worry with there here we are. Don't take your
(23:58):
hand off that week queer the god.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
Late. You can't tell me now if we just fall,
the avalanche begins high the mountains.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Run, run where we are run, We are lying.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
It's coming. I hear it out and up up I
haven't been. It's coming right down the mountain, right for
the top of the cliff. Down comes the whole course
(24:41):
of the avalanche, heading straight for the dynamite charges in
the top of the cliff.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Only one man's figure in the way, Red Cloak streaming
in the rush of wind, steal muscles tens superman that
fires the mountain one final owner, huge, massive rock, bounding
and spinning in the air.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
If I can keep standing where I am, I.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Can deflict it down that Kelly yet miss the clip
clean and this most crowds down below, I don't know
coming me back in the big last change.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
No one in London, last chance, this one fin me.
Speaker 5 (25:23):
You're in here now.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Wait it.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
I'm decided that kell ahead and that's say that says
down below.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Now up, up and away? What happened? The kid might
get to where I know If you mean, oh hello, hatch, now,
(25:57):
what's happened? Is everything all over? What do you mean
to say you didn't see it. I had a job
to do. I just happen to think of it. What
did happen? Right, kend? It was amazing. Just as the
gun went off, a rock side started from the top
of the mount. No heeck came straight from the top
of the clip. And then something happened. We couldn't see
there was too much datas, but it was just as
though some tremendous hand came down and threw back the
(26:17):
rocks cut. No one hurt on a trace of damage. Gosh,
I think I missed all that, And my dear fellow,
the pictures I got. Oh, look here come to Governor
hell Cat where quite a bit of excitement. Hey, well,
I can't say we didn't warn your governor, can't That
was an accident. If you think you could lay that
to Flores Well, and anyhow, I'm still here. If it
(26:38):
was Flora's work, where is he? Oh? I say I
was wrong. There was someone hurt? What was that? Where
up on the cliff? It seems there was a car.
It started off just before the side, and when the
avalanche falled down that gully, the car I was right underneath.
For who was hidden, Governor, We'll never know whoever it
was bonfellows are buried under tons of rock or fellas.
Don't you believe it? Who spoke for kind? My dear fellow,
(27:01):
what get you your voice? What do you mean? Sorry? Gosh,
I guess I was just carried away. Say you were
right about Flora's governor. You'll never touch you now, Well,
I was never seriously alarm Kent. I was, but I'm not.
Now everything's all right. I haven't got your pictures, mister hatchhah,
my dear fellow, beauties, wait till Teddy I sees him,
and wait till he sees my story out solong, everybody.
(27:25):
I've got to find a telegraph wire. The governor saved
in the nick of time, Flora is removed by the
rock slide which he himself started, and Clark Kent with
another scoop. Once again, Superman has served the forces of
law and order. Rescue the champion of good government in
(27:47):
the heart of the Buffalo Hills. Next week, another thrilling,
exciting story of Superman. Julian and don't miss the beginning
up in the sky. Look it's the pain, It's Superman.
Superman is a copyrighted feature appearing in Action Comics magazine.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
All right, just a few comments here and then we
will wrap up.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Well.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
I love how in the beginning the Governor was like,
mister Kent, you haven't given me any good reasons for
not going to Buffalo Hills tomorrow. And I was thinking, Yeah,
that whole thing where Floor Race and his men kept
trying to break into your mansion and kill you. I
(28:42):
thought that was a pretty good reason. I don't know
what good reasons in your book. I don't know how
they are defined. But anyways, and then.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
And then later on.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
We we have this moment at the end where Superman
rescues the Governor and the bad guys are well, they're stopped.
And I love at the end how when the Governor
and Hatch were like those poor folks that were lost
(29:20):
in that rock slide or whatever, and then Clark mistakenly
switches into his Superman voice, and the Hatch is like, oh,
what was that, mister Kent, what was that? That was funny.
I really like that. So I don't have a whole
lot to say about this episode. I really enjoyed this
(29:48):
sort of mystery and the suspense and not knowing what
all was going to happen, and so definitely a lot
of fun. I also really liked this character, Asa Hatch.
He was a bit eccentric and different and I really
(30:13):
like that, and I would love to see him as
a reoccurring character on the show. Unfortunately, I don't think
that that happens, but that would have been really cool
to have seen him be a reoccurring character on the show.
I really do like these sort of sad characters that
(30:36):
they throw in, and we will see several of those
along the way. Some will be reoccurring and some won't.
But I really do like when they sort of throw
in these extra characters that are a little bit different,
and I think it's pretty cool. All right, that's going
(30:57):
to be a wrap for today. Thank you so much
for listening. I would love to hear your thoughts about
the Buffalo Hills storyline again. You can send them to O.
