I don't know one likes as talking team of Steve Warren,
Stank Godwin and Dave hart.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Aim And caught up with Dennis Burnett a while back.
That's here we have to say about his days at
the Den.

Speaker 7 (03:11):
Dennis Burnett Burmersey born and bred. Dennis started his career
as a youth team player at west Ham United. I know,
but he was one of many making his first team
debut for them in nineteen sixty five. That must have
been a really interesting time leading up to the World
Cup in sixty six and the players that played for

(03:32):
west Ham at that period. Dennis played sixty six games
in all competitions for the Amas, scoring three goals in
nineteen sixty seven, he moved across the river close to
his birthplace of Bermondsey and signed for the Lions for
fifteen thousand pounds with a bargain with us. He made

(03:53):
over two hundred and fifty appearances, taking over the captaincy
whenever Harry Cripps was out. In October seventy three, he
left the whole city for seventy five thousand pound. Well
profit was made there.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Then, I didn't. I haven't finished me halftime cover tea yet, Dennis.

Speaker 7 (04:12):
That was a great introduction to your story there. Do
you remember Keith Weller.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Well, only that we were really really good mates. Our
wives were really good friends. We had children, or they
had kids at the same time, and because part of
the game in those days was we'd take the wives
and the little babies to the football and one of
the tea ladies looked after the children in the tea

(04:40):
room upstairs. We would play the on the pitch and
the girls would go in the bar and have a
drink and I don't know what. They never watched the game,
but they used to have a nice day out. It
was a jolly, jolly up for the girls. But Keith
and I were really really close all through his life,
even when he he left Leicester. I spent several Christmases

(05:04):
with him up at Leicester, and the last one we
spent was I think was nineteen seventy eight, it must
have been, and his little boy had just come out
of hospital after having brain surgery, and he subsequently died
two months later, So you know, it's really close to

(05:26):
Keith saw him all the time he lived in America.
We went to stay with him in Dallas when he
was over there in the summer for three weeks, and
then the last time I saw him was about nine
months before he passed away, when he'd moved to gig
Harbor up in Seattle, and he'd built this beautiful home

(05:49):
right overlooking the sound Way called it the Sound but
it's like the waterway that runs down there. And he
was poorly but we still had some laughs. And he
used to phone up every Sunday and then I'd phone
him back the following Sunday. So yeah, but sadly because

(06:13):
he I mean, we go back a long way. But
you know, at the time Millwall, there was four of
us were Freemasons, you know, And I've spoke to him
before about the Masons, and you know, I've been in
a long long time. The end of this year, I've
been fifty years a freemason, so it's part of my life.

(06:34):
And Keith propoked Keith Weller proposed me into my London
lodge and John Gilchrist was a Mason. I proposed Harry
Cripps and he was. And there was a couple of
the board members. Bill Neelan was a Mason and he

(06:54):
was the old barge owner, so you know we had
quite a big fraternity there. Yeah, so through that as well,
you know, it's a sort of a link to people.
And Keith was a typical freemason where he would look
after people. If he could.

Speaker 7 (07:15):
A great player, then I'll never forget him in the
ball from the halfway line and striking the crossbar.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Well didn't quite outdo me because it's never been on
the television, but I must have scored a goal from
just outside my penalty area for west Ham against Oldham
in the f A Cup and it was up at
their ground and it was all I see the pitch
and I think his name was what's his name? Dennis

(07:45):
Violett used to play for Manchester. They had quite a
few good old players at Oldham anyway, we I think
I don't know if we drew the first game, but
I know that I was playing right back and he
was coming over towards, just over the halfway line towards
us in slightly over Runnerborn. I thought, oh, I can

(08:07):
get to this. I'm just going to go and smash it.
I was literally somewhere between the halfway line and our
penalty area really honestly, and I just smashed the ball
as he was dribbling through and it went flying through
the air towards their goal and the goalkeeper I've got
a picture of it, dive in to try and save

(08:27):
it because if it hit the ground, it sort of
swirled and it must have hit this icy pitch and
it must have doubled the speed that it was going
and it flew past him in the net. And as
I say, if it would be on the television, it
would be shown every week because we didn't have television
in use days. But it got us a drawer and

(08:49):
I think we've beaten in a replay. So that was
a goal. I left the claim. Yeah, a goal to remember,
we don't forget them. One's there. Yeah, But getting back Fateeth. No,
he was ahead of a I mean when you think
that Benny must have seen something in him for fifteen pounds,
and when you see some of the games that he's

(09:11):
played for for Leicester especially, I mean he scores some
remarkable goals. You know. He was a real real character.
And obviously he didn't last long at Chelsea because he
was only there a year. But again he fell out
because he said something about a player to the manager

(09:34):
and Dave Exter was the manager and that was it.
He was on his bike. It was to do with
Ronnie Harris, the fallback, and Ronnie Harris apparently bullied this
young They used to have a little kick about on
a Friday morning round by the football round at Stamford Bridge,

(09:58):
and he he smashed this young apprentice, you know, he
went over the top to him and he'd done him.
And Keith fronted up to Donnie Harris and Keith because
Keith was a bit could be a bit nasty if
he wanted to come, he could handle himself. He weren't
afraid to front anybody up. And Dave Sexton called him

(10:21):
aside and told him basically, you know you don't do that,
and all that and he said, you mean, don't do that.
He said, he's kicked him. You know, you don't do
that to young kids. And he had a row with
Dave Sexton and within about fortnight, three weeks he was
on his bike packed off up to less than.

Speaker 7 (10:39):
Yeah and the story of the white Sides.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Then yes, yeah, yeah Manchester City. Was it that he
played against him in a cup game?

Speaker 7 (10:54):
But what you do?

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah, it was funny. Yeah, yeah, no, I mean his
wife never never forgiven for going down to a wardrobe,
so but no, it was yeah, but it's probably going
You look at footballers these days, A lot of them,
you know when it wins and plays, they played them

(11:16):
because of keep their legs warm against you know, a
toall muscle. I think he was he was protecting a
strain that he did have at the back of his leg.
But John Bond, John John Bond was manager of man
Did he score a hatchery that day?

Speaker 7 (11:35):
I think I think he possibly did.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I think yeah, I think he did because I know
John Bond said, you know, if that's the case, he said,
I'm going to get what typs for all my football
team next week.

Speaker 7 (11:50):
So that was I remember that.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
That makes sense.

Speaker 7 (11:57):
And now I'm going to focus on a couple of
the prominent games that we had when you was at
the Den with us. First of all, do you remember
that game against Preston at home in nineteen seventy two.

Speaker 8 (12:10):
They have never seen such scenes as this done in
the old Kid Road and they think it's all over,
and indeed it is all over. Crowd are absolutely floodingly
down at bill Wall because well all of one by
two goals and held Posse and Barry Bridges there are
two faithful strikers. And the word has crept down from Sheffield.

Speaker 9 (12:34):
But Burningham were.

Speaker 7 (12:35):
Losing up there, and the news around the Den was
that Birmingham had come unstuck at Sheffield Wednesday and we
would be promoted to the top flight. It seemed to
me it was like mayhem, how do you recollect that experience?

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Well? I do remember it really clearly because we played,
you know, I can remember it so vividly that we
played really well. I think Barry Bridges was in the
team for us then he'd come as well. And you know,
nobody really sort of before the game or anything. There

(13:10):
was no sort of pressure from anybody mentioning your if
we win and they lose and we go up because
I think Birmingham would come from so many points behind
us in any case, they they went on a winning run.
Unbelievable and yeah, yeah they were good side. That they
were a very good side. But anyway, we did what

(13:31):
we had to do, which was all you could do
in the in the circumstances. We won clearly to nil,
and at the end of the end of the pitch
that was it. It was mate, and all the crowd
come on and they was picking people up, and you know,
it was sort of all decided and I I sort
of specifically didn't want to celebrate until I really heard

(13:55):
that it was all done dusted, you know, that we
had got it, because I thought, well, you know, you
don't know. And then you know, two or three five
minutes later, the news come through because obviously they had
little radio skuying and everything, and that in fact it
weren't to happen. Birmingham had got the result they wanted

(14:17):
and we weren't. It still went to one more game,
didn't it.

Speaker 7 (14:22):
It did.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Following Yeah, we'd finished our season, but I think Birmingham
had one game away to the Orient and to play
and if they won that then they went up and
we didn't and that was it. Ultimately we we lost out.

Speaker 7 (14:41):
Yeah we did. I remember going to Brisbane Road as
many Mimial fans did to urge on the O's but
very poor Frank Lazarus that night Orient who could have
put a goal in the back of the net on
a couple of occasions, and then a single goal from
Bob Lats and promotion to Birmingham. Do you think that

(15:04):
had we airled on Keith Weller for a couple of
seasons that we could have made that top flight?

Speaker 2 (15:11):
I think so, Yeah, I think that, you know, bearing
in mind Keith had only barely been with us, was
it two three years at the most, you know, and
he was still young. We still are still getting the
best out of him. Combined with the other few extra
players you know that Benny was getting in, we'd strengthened

(15:31):
around a pitch a little bit. Yeah, I don't see
why we couldn't have been right back up the top
again and got promotion there and then. But I suppose
the lure of one hundred thousand found in front of
mister Purser's you know face, he probably thought, well that

(15:51):
that will pay for a few windows to be repaired
at the work at the show room next time they
love you know, I mean, nobody knows the finances of
some of these clubs and what happens behind the scenes,
and I guess Millwall were no different in those days.
They had financial financial pressures and you know, you know,

(16:17):
you buy a player for fifteen thousand pound, you get
three years fantastic performances from him, and someone offers you
a hundred thousand pound. I suppose it's temptation and we
don't know. Also, you don't know what sort of pressure
Keys might have put on Benny, you know, at the time,

(16:38):
and the fact that he might have said, well, look,
you know, I'm going to ask for a transfer because
I think I can do better than this and everything.
You know, we're not aware of that at the time.
So I think given all the thing, Benny thought, probably
quite right at the time that it was a good move,

(16:58):
a good deal deal, and certainly a good deal for
Chelsea because Keith played and they won the European Cup
winners Cup that year, didn't They won a nil and
I think Keith scored was it the gold of the season.
He scored a volley as well, and you know, I
mean he was quite an influential player, and as we know,
when he went to Leicester he was captain and the

(17:21):
game is his character come out? Then?

Speaker 7 (17:25):
Did a brilliant to remember?

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Yeah, god, no he was. I mean I could obviously
talk about him for days after days because we had
so many days together and times together. And but there's
lots of other people we've got to talk about, going.

Speaker 7 (17:43):
There is a good few. Another memorable game came the
following season when we edited to Liverpool to face Everton
at Goodison Park in the FA Cupout that one.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Yeah, well it's only just recently, as you know, I'm
a computer actually whiskid. But I was trawling through something
on the computer or something and it was Goals of
the seventies or something Games of the seventies. It was
on like a and all of a sudden it comes
up Everton versus mere Wall FA Cup. It was doing

(18:21):
a repeat of some of the Match of the day shows,
aim low and behold it's our game against Everton. So
I recalled it, not recorded it, but I saw it
again several times. I kept playing it, and I remember
the game quite clearly because for some reason I played

(18:41):
I was put in midfield that game. I was must
have been playing midfield, I don't know for what reason,
and it was me that was brought down. I'd gone
through I was on a dribble. Not often do I
dribble past people, but I think I'd gone past about
two or three people and I was then very crudely

(19:02):
brought down by I think their fallback called Mike Pegick,
who played for Everton, he also played for Stoke City.
And we got the free kick and I think Aimon
and I ragian as to who was going to take it,
and Aimon won won the day, and he sort of

(19:23):
just clipped it through forward and Harry come in and
with his flying head. I don't know how he got
the power on it and stuck it in the corner
the net, because it was unbelievable. And the second goal,
I mean that was when you look at the state,
you look at the state of the pitch. I don't
know if you've seen the game, but the stay at

(19:46):
the pitch, and I don't know it was who played
the boy. It might have been me played the ball
over the top down the right wing to Gordon and
Gordon Bollin come on, and I mean just in one
without touching it or moving on to it in full speed.
He's just clipped it in and healthy woulds come up.
And I know Elfie quite well because he moved a

(20:08):
whole sitting after I went up there with him, and
he could head the ball, give him anything, if he
could get a run at any anything, he would out
jump anybody. And as soon as I saw him coming
in on the end of it, I thought, there's only
one place. It's going to be like a rocket, and
it was, and it was a great, great goal. And

(20:29):
the other thing I remember about how well Kingy played
that day. He made some absolute unbelievable says and blocks
where he just threw himself at people coming in lashing
the ball. And as I say he's fearless, he really was.
In fact, the more he did that he got up
laughing at He really would. He would take the mickey

(20:50):
out of them. And you know that was him all over.

Speaker 10 (20:57):
And what's up?

Speaker 6 (20:58):
Tell evident out of the.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Must. I think the next game we got drawn against
Wolves in the in the quarterfinal.

Speaker 7 (21:09):
That's right, I put more than we got we.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Lost, we got beat and that was at Bath as well.
And we've got beat one one meal that day there
and we were really desperately unlucky. Then two we could
have got a result and gone on.

Speaker 7 (21:25):
Yeah, it was a tough, tough game, a few opportunities,
but we didn't manage to do it. But going back
to that game evident and I think for me and
for many I think who were about watching that game,
it was one of the biggest highlights of that period.

(21:45):
And Everton were a big side in those days. Who
later become their manager. I think he was the captain
at the time, and I remember him walking off. He
was limping off that off that pitch I can recollect it,
and I thought, oh, that's great, that's great, that's great,
he's gone. We were you know, we were in with

(22:07):
a chance here, and we weren't only in with a chance,
we we actually won well in the end. It was
a It was a great hiler and many people reflect
upon that game as being one of the greats. But
I mean, as you say, old Harry scored that amazing
goal with his head, a goodison from that dumpy free kick.

(22:33):
You and Harry must have been the leaders in that side,
or or a couple of the leaders in that side,
and he must feature large in your memories.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Harry, Harry Cripple calling Cripple he was, he was. He's
one of these guys that because we used to every
day we traveling together by Carl. Because I lived I
didn't move house from when I played for west Ham.
I lived over at good Mates Ilford, which is near Ilford,
and Harry lived maybe a mile away seven Kings. So

(23:07):
he used to pick me up one morning and we
drive in and then I'd pick him up the next day,
you know, And so we would spend every day together.
And then I got him a job coaching in the afternoons.
I used to I was doing it at west Ham.
Ron Greenwood used to try and persuade us to take
up coaching sessions and I took over John Lyles position.

(23:31):
He used to Stepney Green School in East London and
I did that for about seven years as a sports
teacher all through the year and Harry I got him
a job there. So as soon as we did gone
to Millwall, we've done a morning's training and we drive
back from there back to the school and we'd go

(23:53):
on the school bus out to the training pitches for
the council or once did out that way out towards
Leyton Stone and all through Stratford on the bus. And
that was which I spent every day of my life
for seven eight years with Harry. And then we even
opened up a wallpaper business in Ilford and we had

(24:17):
a shop and we run that together, so we were
even more ingrained as a duo. So yeah, I mean
every day together with Crippo was a laugh. I mean
he'd do the most. We'd come from training because he
used to like a beat. He was a gambling man
and I didn't have a bet at all. But on

(24:37):
the way home from if we were late from training,
we couldn't get to the school in time to get
the bus. So we used to drive all the way
out to fair Loop to the pitches and then we'd
meet the school buses there and you can bet on
that way journey from Millwall from the Den out to

(24:57):
fair Lot. Harry would have found about five or six
Betton shops to put a bell on, because it would start.
It would start with the twelve to thirty race and
then it'd be the one forty five from somewhere else
and he'd have it all on the newspaper. And because
all round by Greenage he knew every betting shop and

(25:18):
there was one particular horse. It was called Charlie H
And I think he must have stopped in about four
betting shops because everyone he put a bell and he
went and we drive off and then he go, I
think that's going to win, right, stop next and he'd
be going and put another bet on the same horse.
And it was about four stops we made before the

(25:38):
race and he won. The horse won, and I think
he won about three hundred pounds. I understand we'll see
Dennis then soon. What a player he was.

Speaker 11 (25:56):

Speaker 13 (27:34):
The Romans are traveling in the GFSN quarter final. We're
playing against Mersey Maruders. We played them last year in
the Jeff semi final up in Liverpool and lost in
the last twenty seconds of the game. The GFSN do
I always have a get together for the quarter final
this year. We're very very lucky that we've been playing

(27:54):
at Saint George's Park in Burton and the England training Ground.
All the teams are gathering there on Sunday this week
to play in the quarter final. We've got a midday
kickoff against Mersey. It's going to be a big, big
game of taken a big squad with us and so yeah,
and if we get through to that then we'll we'll
wait for the drawer and for the semi final which

(28:15):
will be held in February time. Pride are also playing
in London. They're again Stokey. They're just in a friendly

on Sunday.

Speaker 14 (28:28):
And prediction wise what Ilse hope millwill bounce back on it.
I'm going to say Milwill Preston is going to be
too nil. Snot Correntry. I'm going to go Snoke too
Neil on that one. And i can't have child On
winning that one, so I'm going to say Wrexham too
nil as well.

Speaker 6 (28:45):
Fantastic.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
The Lioness is hosted Halsford in their return to the
League play on Sunday with the new or Committee Trust.
Ty Benett is showing the story from Maritime Radio.

story for US this morning.

Speaker 16 (29:06):
Millw Lions's made it three league wins on the spin
with a two nil victory over Aylesford on Sunday at
Saint Paul's Sports Ground. They bounced back from a two

scoring in the first half before Cada Town's end made
it too with one minute remaining. Ted Jones's side traveled

(29:28):

to make it six wins in seven.

Speaker 15 (29:33):
Thanks very much, Kai and Sunday's kickoff in London and
the Southeast League Cup is scheduled for one thirty pm
at the DHFC Training Center, green Dale. Will the Lionesses progress.
Klim will be back to update US next week news
headlines at nine on the way We'll get the names.

Speaker 6 (29:51):
Can they keep their winning street going?

Speaker 3 (29:53):
On Sunday against Darling Samblet reserves in the League Cup. Guys,
we suppose we better talk about it. After a disappointed
Kim draw at Oxford, he wasn't really disappointed. We were
winning and to be honest, both goals Again, they probably
wouldn't go anyway to the goals, but that's just my thoughts.
We traveled to Saint Andrews to face the resurge of

(30:14):
Birmingham City on Tuesday evening. Steve, I'll start with your thoughts.
This ain't going to be fun, is it.

Speaker 17 (30:21):
No, it's not, but I think there are a number
of factors at play on Tuesday night. We played seven
games in thirty five days, with many of the team playing,
and all the games we picked up injuries to key
players which affected how we played and meant the way
that the manager chose to set up.

Speaker 6 (30:38):
He tried to.

Speaker 17 (30:38):
Counter that, but for me, the key loss was Femi.
Since he's been back into the team, we've looked like
a real attacking threat and teams have been required to
put additional effort into controlling him. I think this means
they're attacking options were shortened, and of course we miss
his goals as well. I also think we moved Bellow
to the right. I think that was a mistake on

(30:59):
the part of the many. I think he was doing
consistently well on the left and he was he was
a threat. We should have just left him there. Let's
face it, the goals were poor. We should have got
a credit for two assists on them. But either way,
you know they we let them run through it as
without a challenge. And also looking at Cochran's goal for them,

(31:19):
it was a mirror of the shot saved by Kunder
early on in the game. So you know, if we'd
have scored, it might have been different. I doubt it,
but it might have been. But this sort of game
happens in football, so you know, this league's unpredictable. We're
fifth in the league and if I was offered that
at the start of the season, I'd have taken it
without question. So we need to maintain a little bit
of perspective about the result and not to bounce back

(31:41):
on Saturday. Anyway, I've said this before, seems to me,
now we've got a negative goal difference, we'll bounce back
with a few victories and hope that we'll that trend
will continue.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
So I think it's over to you, David.

Speaker 18 (31:55):
Yeah, these more or less summed up the way that
we all feel moment. Me personally, I think that I
was disappointed at that the substitutes weren't made quick enough.
We didn't bring on as many subs as I would
have liked to have seen. We didn't make a sumpthing

(32:15):
about the sixtieth minute. I think me personally, I would
have made a suber half sign. But that's just me
talking there. Birmingham were from the off on the game
and they could see that we were disjointed without Femi
and there was we had no threat really going forward.

Speaker 6 (32:40):
What we can do about it.

Speaker 18 (32:41):
We need to have a replacement for Femi or somebody
that's going to slot into his position and be at
least half as good a threat as Femi is. So
based on that, it looks like we're a one player scene,
but we're not. We just got, as you said, injuries

(33:02):
and playing people with out a position.

Speaker 6 (33:05):
Same, what's your thoughts?

Speaker 10 (33:08):
Well before the other night, we've had two bad games
this season, uh where and you know, and they and
we were rubbish right and that was against Coventry and
it was against Wrexham. Uh and when we played Wrexham.
I wasn't barticularly impressed with him at the time, but

(33:28):
we were rubbish on Tuesday or on Monday or whenever
it was this week, it was rubbish, right. I sat
there and I watched that guy. Remember when we when
we got beat by Coventry, and I spoke to Wayman
and there was other people and their view was and
I didn't see the first goal at the time. I've

(33:49):
since seen it and I understand why they said what
they said. You know that when we conceded against Coventry,
it was a right cock cup and it was just
the way things went that night, right because and the
theory being if we hadn't conceded that goal in the
way that we did it, it would have been a
different game, right, And I accept that. But on this
one against Birmingham, that's that's no excuse at all. We

(34:12):
were garbage. It's as simple as that, right, And I
said that on my tweet and when we did it,
and I've seen nothing, heard nothing since then to change it. Now,
I'm hoping that when we play home on against Preston
on Saturday, we're going to put in a performance something
along the lines of what we did against west Brom right,

(34:35):
but we but we were rubbish and you know, and
the only thing that worries me today is that we
keep the light. You know, we played him and as
Easy is now out injured, that's a bigger problem for
me personally, the injuries we keep picking up because this
is just ridiculous. But no, I mean I watched that game.

(34:55):
I mean they scored to be fair Birmingham. They scored
two cracking goals in shots and they were good goals.
They won the game and they fully deserved to win
the game, and you know, and and that's it. So
we just have to move on. But you know, uh,
the only well, the only thing I couldn't understand at

(35:17):
the time was is why it was we had why
it was Sturge wasn't starting off in the first place.
I mean unless he was picking up and picked up
some knock or something. I didn't understand that. But but no,
I mean, we were rubbishes, as simple as that. And
we've got to perform a lot better this week at home.

(35:38):
If if and if we you know, if we think
that we're going to be a lim for the playoffs
and all that sort of thing. But you know, there
was nothing in that game at all, which I was
impressed with it all from our point of view.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
Yeah, personally before we started, okay for first ten fifteen minutes.
The goal again always does nix knocks and stuffing out
of us. And I just had a horrible feel all
day about the game anyway, and Burningham never a nice
place to go, and players like Chase Stancil and stuff

(36:13):
like that that bogey players to us, and just they thought,
I'm just glad to get past it, and the results
around us didn't really affect us too much. We go
into Preston Onto this Saturday and fingers crossed, we can
we can move on. I'm quite looking forward to this Saturday.
Actually be consists the type of game where we want.

(36:33):
But we were talking off about leaving players fifteen million
pounds or players on the bench or not even in
the squad. We've sort of kind of been doing the
same thing with Caleb Taylor. I think we paid two
million for him and he hasn't. You didn't even get
the start at the moment, which spissed to be frustrating
for the poor lad. But I think it's Saturday's his game.
You bring him in next to coops on Saturday and
move move Cramer out to the right. That's what we

(36:54):
need to do. You get that attacking threat down the
right outside. But that's just my thoughts. As we were saying,
Balow is to be back on his natural side, and
thankfully I think as Easy is only out for like
two to three weeks, and we do have an international
break for two of those, so fingers crossed when we
come back, you'll be back on the bench. But as

(37:15):
I say, this Saturday, we're excited to host Preston nor
Friend The match kicks off at twelve thirty and we'll
be broadcast live on skot Sports Football, so we choo
to tune in if you can't get to the game.
Preston nor Fend currently sit in fourth place in the
league with three wins, two losses and one draw in
their last six matches. We've also been doing well with

(37:36):
four wins, one draw, one loss. Since we've only a
single point apart sitting in fifth, it promises to be
an engaging game. Many fans are hopeful for a strong response,
just like after our tough game against Commentary earlier in
the season. Now it's worth knowing that several first choice
players I've currently enjoyed, which is as I won't think

(37:58):
that everyone knows that the movement, which it's a bit
of a trickier scenario.

Speaker 6 (38:02):
The bookmakers have pressed.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
In the thirteen to five to the win, a Joy
at two to one and mill Will at nine to
ten come out on top. So least bookmakers are willing
with such close we expect a tight an exciting game.
And then what are your predictions for this match? Start
with you, Steve on the middle.

Speaker 17 (38:22):
Prediction first, I mean it's going to be one nil
to Millwall okay, and Dave, yeah.

Speaker 18 (38:31):
I think looking at the positions of the two teams,
I'll go with one nil the Millwolf.

Speaker 10 (38:40):
I think we're going to get a two to one
or three one win. I'll go three one okay.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
And for myself, I'm going to stick in right out
there because normally when we get hiding from someone, we
come back stronger.

Speaker 6 (38:56):
So I'm going to go for a three nil win
to us to us okay.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
And the other two games we've got Stoke big commentary
and why Chilton, Steve, I'll start you on those two, so.

Speaker 17 (39:13):
I think he'll be the Stoke Coventry is going to
be a to T draw and Wrexham Cholman is going
to be two one two rex and bricks okay and.

Speaker 10 (39:25):
Stamp Well, I think Stoke will beat Coentry on Saturday.
Uh and I would imagine if that happens. I would
imagine the Stoke managers get a big smile right across
his bowt race mate, but I see I fancy Stoked
to win that and they're at home and all. Uh

(39:46):
Wrexham chow And I think is going to be a draw.
Uh yeah, Sorryore probably one one, I reckon.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Well.

Speaker 6 (40:03):
Yeah, one one, well.

Speaker 10 (40:07):
That that will barth each Stok will win that game
one nil one.

Speaker 6 (40:13):
You're one, sorry, Dave.

Speaker 18 (40:14):
Yeah, Stoke, I'll go to.

Speaker 6 (40:20):
Win ye.

Speaker 18 (40:23):
Mm, I'll go.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
To Lovely and my two I'm gonna stick with. I'm
going to go with what you've been saying. Really, Stoke,
I think you'll beach commentary also to one and then
Wrexham Child and I think will be Wrexham to Child one.
I think it'd be a game too far for children
and I think are playing well. We also have predictions

(40:50):
from our Nick with our Facebook mill Sicily site.

Speaker 6 (40:56):
Let's hear what Nick predicts.

Speaker 9 (41:00):
Hi, everyone, these are my predictions Millwall two, Preston, Neil
Stoke one, Commentary one and Excellent one Charlton one.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
Thank you brilliant, Thanks Nick, and also thanks to DeHart,
our panelist tonight for collating the results and producing the
table which I'm not.

Speaker 6 (41:22):
Doing very well but we won't talk about.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
We're delighted to introduce our second guest this evening, the
CEO of the mill Community Trust. He is a highly
qualified way for a licensed coach and has spent ten
years as an FA tutor, traveling around the world to
countries such as South Africa, China, Spain and the Netherlands,
of sharing expertise in FA coaching on behalf of the FA.

(41:46):
Luckily he's now setting in one place, though he is
always on the go. Please join me and warmly welcoming
Sean Daily. Welcome, Sean.

Speaker 19 (41:54):
Good evening, everyone home you will ah sure, yeah, ladies,
good evening.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
The Midible Community to Trust Santa Dash fundraiser is being advertised,
of which I've already bought the tickets. Can you tell
the listeners, Steve, Stan and Mia I'll bet my two
children as I say, I've already booked. What will happen
and how to enter.

Speaker 19 (42:18):
Yeah, so it's.

Speaker 6 (42:20):
Sorry.

Speaker 19 (42:20):
It's our annual Santa Dash happens every year. We're looking
at the thirteenth December, so it's a whole game. It's
usually a meet and the Alliance Center and then a
gentle jog down to some pools, a cup of coffee
or hot chocolate and palls, and then a little jog
back around the pitch receiver medal and go to the

(42:46):
Lion Center for some mincepies. It's just really a fun
run for everyone, really, and just an enjoyable day. I
mean last year we had bad weather and we just
did it in a line center, so that's always our
option if the weather's poor that we can just run
around the line center. It's just a fun day really.
Everyone jets up in a saner outfit.

Speaker 6 (43:09):
I saw this, Dave.

Speaker 19 (43:10):
Here are you, Dave?

Speaker 18 (43:11):
How are you on fine things? I remember talking about
the Mental Health Initiative with show Right last time, and
it's good to see that they are a sleeve sponsor
for our line as is. I think the name I
Show Right sounds a bit irish, which brings me on

(43:32):
to an evening with those who wore the blue and
the green. So what can we expect and how can
we get tickets? Yeah, So every year we try and
do some player events. I think it's very important that
players that have played for the club get an opportunity
to come back and talk about their experiences within football,

(43:55):
not just at Millwall but you know, playing for the
different clubs and playing for the country. And every time
I phone up some players to say, look, you know,
could you come and do a players event on behalf
of the Milwall community. Trust you know they're always and
yet no problem, we can do that. So we've got
one lined up that's going to have David Ford, Aidan
O'Brien and John Goodman and again it will just be

(44:17):
an opportunity for fans to listen to some stories about them,
you know, how they grew up, how they got into football,
how they got to play for Millwall and sort of
talk about some of the fun times they had at
Millwall and experiences that fans don't usually get to talk
to them about.

Speaker 19 (44:35):
And what we also want to talk about is playing
for their country. You know they're playing for Millwall, but
also what's he liked go and play for your country
and be around different other players and it's always a
good evening.

Speaker 2 (44:49):
You know.

Speaker 19 (44:49):
It's fans will get an opportunity to listen to some
stories but then get to ask their own sort of questions.
Players will sign some stuff and we're auntioned off some
stuff that the players will give us. But it's just
a great opportunity for fans to engage with those players
that have left the club and you know, they're welcome back.

(45:10):
Let's have some experiences about what they've done. Tickets are
on our website on event right. It's ten pounded ticket
for that. You get a pie when you come in
and then it's just a couple of hours with the
players excellently.

Speaker 6 (45:25):
I'st you now season Hi, Sean, it's Steve here.

Speaker 19 (45:30):
Hi, it's Steve hi.

Speaker 6 (45:31):
Mate.

Speaker 17 (45:32):
You had a Milble Community Trust pop up at Burgess
Park last week. What took place and are there any
more scheduled?

Speaker 19 (45:40):
Yeah? So, you know, we work very closely with subfourn
Council on their football development and you know, because we
run Saint Paul's and we've got there, we do lots
of schools around Suffolk. Burgess Park is something that they
opened up a couple of years ago with Football Founder
funding and also some Premier League money. So Football Foundation

(46:06):
contacted us a couple of months ago. We said, look,
we want to showcase the work we do all around
the country of our funding free GI's astroturfs, but we
want Millwall involved in it. You know, you're the professional
club in Subvolk. We want to showcase it, but we
want to showcase with Millwall participants. So it all sets up,

(46:30):
came down lots of filming. Anton Ferdinand turned up, Pharah Williams,
both residents from Subfolk, you know Evanton and Rio growing
up in Subfolk. It was just a great event really,
They filmed it and they've put it out as a
sort of showcase of stuff they've done in the last
ten years around England about funding astro turf. So, you know,

(46:56):
it's just a privilege for us to be involved in
these sort of things. But it's nice when the Premier
League and Football Foundation phone up and say we want
mil Will involved in it. So it just shows that
we're doing some good stuff and it's being recognized.

Speaker 17 (47:10):
That's a really good thing. Also, see that the EFL
Week of Actions being highlighted by the MCT. Can you
tell us a bit more about what that's about.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
Yes.

Speaker 19 (47:20):
So every year the EFL want to showcase what the
seventy two clubs do. But they don't just want you
to do a football course or do you know, a
holiday camp or something like that. Everyone does the same.
They want you to showcase the best things that you do.
So we've tried to showcase over the last five days

(47:43):
some of the things that we think we do quite well.
So you know, we've got things like our LGB football team,
We've got our walk in football, you know, engaging up
to fifty sixty older people. We showcased our job center.
You know that we were probably one of the only
football clubs that I've actually got a job center based

(48:04):
at the stadium at the Lion Center. So it's really
an opportunity for us to showcase the good work we
do and get it out nationally. We're very well known
about what we do locally, but this is an opportunity
to show everyone what we do nationally. And you know,
we've had some great stuff. You know, a couple of
years ago we had the military team went down and

(48:26):
Neil Harris did a coaching session with them. We had
our LGB football team at the Den being coached by
Paul Robinson. So we've had some really good stuff and
this is just a way of us showcasing what we do.

Speaker 17 (48:40):
That's a great story and it needs to get out
there and it needs to be seen on a wider showcase.

Speaker 6 (48:45):
So brilliant, Thank you.

Speaker 10 (48:51):
Yeah, all right, Sean, I see that the Blue and
Green Evening looks excellent and I'll be there, see right,
I see you'll be asking young women to register their
interest for the Millwall Community Trust brand new post sixteen
female Football and Education Academy due to commencing September of

(49:14):
well next year. Can you explain the benefits of this program.

Speaker 19 (49:20):
Yeah, So, for the probably the last seven years since
I've been here is we've always ran a male post
sixteen football academy and the idea is that young people
leave when they're sixteen years old, go off to college,
university or staying sixth form. And what we wanted to

(49:41):
try and do is we've linked up with Lewisham College
for the last five years to do this sort of
post sixteen football academy. So they train nine hours a week,
but they go to college at Lewisham and do a
B Tech or their A levels around for coaching and
we've always done it as a male course. You know,

(50:05):
we've had a few girls on it and we've done
some coaching programs as well with them. But we thought,
why don't, you know, why don't we have a standalone
post sixteen female football education academy. We've got our own
girls academy from twelve's up to sixteens. We've then got
our under eighteens, and then we've got our first team
line esses. Well why don't we do a post sixteen

(50:27):
education program where they leave they leave their school, they
go to Lewisham College, they train with us nine hours
a week in football, they play for the college and
the academy on a Wednesday. But hopefully those girls will
be our under eighteens or move into the first team.

(50:48):
And we just thought, you know, it's been very successful
as a male one. You know, we've got sixty students
this year at the Lewisham. I've got sixty students students
down in Canterbury, So we thought we'd just have a
go at setting up a female one and I think
it's going to be quite successful. And then of course

(51:10):
that becomes our stepping stone to our eighteens and to
our lionesses.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
That's pretty Insuran. It's just always good all the work
you do, Sean. I noticed that a middle line is
Instagram will showing at least the ag P if I've
said that right scoring a.

Speaker 6 (51:29):
Goals against Alsford has over a million views. Could this
be a new record for me?

Speaker 19 (51:35):
I think I think it's a record for the trust
and the club.

Speaker 6 (51:40):
This pardiculars, I couldn't believe it.

Speaker 19 (51:41):
Kai keeps coming in showing it to me, going it's
going up another one hundred thousand, and I'm like really,
I mean it's a great goal that she scored is
a great goal, but I think it's a combination of
two things, a girl trying to stop the goal and
the goal being scored. But yeah, we have said that
the community schemes taking over the hits from the club,

(52:04):
which would be a first for us anyway, So.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
Brilliant Before you leave, a Sean, we appreciate everything you do.
As always, we've got text prediction game which we've been
talking about before you come on three matches and we
want your predictions obviously mil Preston first Stoke Conventry and
then Wrexham every Chilton.

Speaker 6 (52:24):
What are your thoughts.

Speaker 19 (52:27):
So I think it's gonna be a tough game against Preston,
but I think we're going to come out winners one nil.
Lovely Stoke Coventry. I think again a very close game.
I think that'll end up being a draw one one
and I'd love to see Wrexham turn over Chilton, so

(52:47):
I'm going to go for too nil for Chilton to
nil for Wrexham.

Speaker 3 (52:50):
Sorry, brilliant, Thanks Sean, and thanks you for your prediction tonight.
We look forward to return you under your show a
next month and hearing you bring more updates on the
activities for the Meal Committee Trust. All the best to
you your Male Committee Trust team, and I hope you
get loads and loads of people signed up for the

Mill Sands Dash and but a lot of least. You're
loved by everyone but by fanel Shaw.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
