Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Underground, The steel City Underground, the black
and gold standard for Pittsburgh Steelers coverage. Now here's your hoes.
Terry Fletcher.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Hello everyone, and welcome to the steel City Underground podcast.
My name is Terry Fletcher. So we just completed our
Week four and there's a lot to get to when
it comes to what the football podcast. So let's talk
about the Pittsburgh Steelers. I know we've always heard from
our fearless leader Joe, but you know, I just want
to give a quick game update on that because there

(00:37):
were some moments in there that I just thought were
really cool. So and definitely what the football moments. First
of all, Aaron and Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf, they
connected quite a bit on this game. We had a
great first half. I just really just loved the first
half on that and even when you look at when
Metcalf had that crossing route to hit that touchdown down

(01:00):
the field, he actually was speeding down to that eighty
yards took it to the house. We were in Dublin, Ireland,
and I'm half Irish, so I was pretty excited for
this game Croke Park and it was all Steelers. The
terrible towels, just really looking at that. And you know,
it was also an historic game. They said it was

(01:20):
the longest scrimmage score in the history of the NFL
in an international series. It was also the first international
game that Aaron Rodgers has won. So just amazing all around.
Just seeing Big Ben and Bettis and just you know,
some of our players from the past was pretty pretty
cool there. Also Rogers, he did a pretty nice job.
He had a one thirty two point eight passer rating,

(01:42):
eighty one point three percent completion percentage and you know,
and a forty one year old quarterback will take it.
I think one of the funniest with the football moments
is when we did the tush push. No, he was
standing there just like dad saying, okay, you guys, take it.
And then of course when we got the first down
with you know, the push from Washington in there, he

(02:03):
just made the first down signal kind of like, you know,
pointing as a dad would say to the kids, you know,
get back to bed, it's past your time. But just
a really really great game. Now, obviously we were dealing
with Carson Wentz because they're starting quarterback, you know, in
the JJ McCarthy at the Vikings is out with injury,

(02:25):
but you know, Carson wentz we It came down to
an albier at the end. You know, our defense gave
up some points in the second half, which wasn't good.
We have to stop doing that and so and they
also have you know, at Jordan Adison back. They've got
Justin Jefferson back and he had you know, one hundred
and twenty six yards and ten catches, so we had
to be very cautious about that. I think the biggest

(02:48):
thing as far as what the football moment was for
fantasy players, how many of you did not sit Jalen
Warren because it was a last minute scratch and even
picked up Kenneth Gainwell or have him on your roster.
And I actually won my football game, my fantasy football
in a league where somebody didn't sit him, and so

(03:10):
I won by eighteen points and that was just enough
to overtake that amount of having that zero there. And
it looks like even though Jared Moorland is the running
back number one this season, Kenneth Kenneth Gainwell has earned
a lot of respect here. He you know, he used
to be in former Eagles running back and is a
Saquon Barkley understudy. He was also in Miami for a while,

(03:33):
so I was pretty pretty happy to see him really,
you know, do what he does out there, and he
was very He's also very speedy and puts that ball through.
So I really like what he did and we'll see
what happens after that. I think that also the went
the football moment when it was fourth down and you
need points and we decided not to go for the

(03:54):
field goal, and then the play that was called. I
didn't like it. I didn't like it. You know what,
you need points, you need points. You don't have a
blowout here. It's you know, we needed points at that point.
And when you've got twenty points and you've got the
you know, the the Vikings on your tail and you're
out of country, take the points. And it turned out

(04:15):
at the end it could have been a problem if
we didn't you know, have Dishaun Elliott back to break
up that pass. So I didn't like that. That was okay,
So we have to really keep those things in mind
and not make those moments what the football worthy that was.
That was just an interesting thing to me.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Now.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Ravens Kansas City, I have to say Ravens loss that
now they're one and three. Lamar Jackson is hurt, and
I don't wish anyone to be hurt, but I can't
say I'm sad to see the Ravens lose. He had
an interception, he had a fumble, and apparently he's out
for a hamstring, so we'll see how long that lasts.
They also lost two defensive players due to injury, one

(04:54):
for the entire season. Speaking of injuries, oh man, talk
about what the football moment, and I'm in the healthcare field,
so nothing really kind of grosses me out or or
makes me look away, except when I saw Tarik Hill
with his unfortunate injury. So he not only dislocated his

(05:16):
kneecap his knee, not his kneecap, his knee, which is
really hard to do, but he also tore several ligments,
including a c L MCL PCL. It's it's not good.
It is not good. So I you know, our our
thoughts go out to him. I mean that just that's
not that's not fun. The Miami stole on the game, though,

(05:37):
so and gets good on them. The Colts, Oh my gosh,
so the wide receiver was going into the end zone,
and what did he do. He started celebrating, making a
change of the ball in his hand, and he did
it before he hit the line and hit the you know,
cross the plane, and so guess what now it's a
touchback for the other team at the twenty yard line. Yeah,

(05:59):
you know they always make excuses. Well, you know there
was no intent there. You know, he's a rookie, he's
twenty two years old. Yeah, stop doing that stuff, getting
too the end zone. If you feel like you need
to celebrate, fine, but that's ridiculous. I think one of
the most what the football moments was on Sunday Night football.
How many of you stayed up and watched? And I'm
in California, so you know we have early football. Sunday

(06:21):
Night football for us starts at five o'clock, but by
I was tired by nine o'clock. And for it to
end at a forty forty tie between Green Bay and Dallas,
you've got to be kidding me. And I decided to count.
I knew it was going to be Micah Parsons and
Chris Collinsworth just saying that name all the time, even

(06:43):
a couple of times He's like Michah Parsons, who is now,
you know, a defensive back with Green Bay that was
traded from Dallas. It was going to be him against
Dallas instead of green Bay against Dallas. I counted how
many times he actually said his name. He said his
name fifty eight times. Come on, just move, move on

(07:04):
or get a room. I mean, that was driving me crazy.
The Tennessee Houston game, Tennessee is now owing for Houston's
one and three. And you know, Ki kim Ward is interesting.
He was at a press conference. He said our team
is and I'm gonna do say what he said because
this is a podcast, so I think we're allowed to

(07:24):
say it. He says, our team is ass so you
might have to beat that out, Joe. But I mean,
oh my gosh, I'm looking at my window as I'm
doing this and there's a drone outside my window. Okay, sorry,
straight og. That was weird. I don't know what they're
doing out there looking at stuff, but that's weird. That's
a little invasive anyway. So yeah, the Tennessee Houston game.
I'm not gonna argue with cam Ward. They're rookie quarterback,

(07:48):
but boy to say that on TV, and that was
that was a little crazy. Maybe he needs to say
something a little bit different. We also for as far
as injuries, Jalen Ramsey and Calvin Austin, they're going to
be out for a little while. I'm glad we have
a bye right now. Jalen was he took a touchdown,
was taken off the board into the end zone and

(08:10):
he pulled up his hamstring. I was very surprised to
see him come back in. But you know, here's what
the football question. Where's Beanie Bishop? Why is he still
on our practice squad? Didn't he do a good job
last year? Wasn't he a ballhawk as they liked to
call him. I'm not sure you know what's going on
with that. So that was weird. And then one of
my teams that are one of the teams that I

(08:30):
am not a fan of because I'm a Steelers fan,
that would be the Raiders who are now one in three.
Did you see me just do a happy dance? The
Bears are two and two. Gino Smith. Now, before the
season started, and we had you know, Pete Carroll, new
coach the Raiders, he's in his seventies. He plucked Gino

(08:51):
Smith from Seattle said, oh, no, I want him. You
know he can do great things for me. He throws
so many interceptions here, but to the wrong player. He
had four turnovers. You know, Max Crosby plays his heart
out on defense, and you've got a blocked field goal
by the Raiders. But you know what, the football peete, Carol,

(09:13):
why are you staying with a quarterback who even before
the season started, most people think he's top twenty, meaning
that he's probably number twenty. You know, the Raiders need help,
and that was not the place to go. But that's
just my opinion. That's one woman's opinion. And you know what,
I could be correct. I mean one in three at

(09:34):
this point. You just never know. Now when you're looking
at some of the different scores around the league, let's
look and you know, the Buffalo Bills, of course, are
four and oh the New Orleans Saints are zero to four,
and you know they lost thirty one nineteen to the Bills.

(09:54):
And I didn't think that their players actually played bad.
You know, I look at just kind of seeing, you know,
how they're playing, what they're doing. But it's it's interesting
when you kind of look at at how things are
going for their coaches out there. Spencer Radler, you know,
he was looking for his you know, first career when

(10:15):
it was his birthday, and you know, he touched down
in twelve. You know, he got his first touchdown and
also got a couple of first downs because he's a
mobile quarterback. But he just against the Bills, there was
just there was just no no way to come back
from that. So that that was unfortunate for them. Cleveland

(10:38):
Brown's they're also one in three. O Detroit beat them
thirty four to ten. Can't say I'm sad about that,
but you know, Hutchinson and the Lions, the Hutchinson just
pummeled the Browns. So it was a Monday night football
victory and it was it was it was kind of
it was kind of crazy for that one. And then

(10:58):
when you kind of take a look at the blowout,
I mean, I can see why the Titans were saying
they what he said, what he said, because I mean,
twenty six nothing. They were actually shut out. That's crazy.
And the Texans offense finally came alive because i mean
they're now just one and three. It was it was
two teams that were oh and three going at it.

(11:20):
And you're like, yeah, here's a game I really just
can't wait to watch. I think one of the sleeper
teams is probably the New England Patriots. You know, they're
two and two right now. They beat the Panthers forty
two to thirteen. It's going to be interesting because when
they play good teams, they tend to not do things well.
But I think everyone was not surprised, but probably saying,

(11:43):
you know what, the football, where is our you know quarterback?
That's now we want to get Jackson Dart. When you
look at the New York Giants, they were zero and
three and the Chargers were three and oh, and there
was like, there's no way that he's going to win. Well,
I made a bet on that game in a parlay
and I won because guess what. And Jackson Dart's first

(12:05):
start his debut, I think he really energized. Now. They
had to pull him out for a play where Russell
Wilson went back in because it looked like he could
have had a concussion, but he came right back out.
But they beat the Chargers twenty one to eighteen, and
so that was crazy. They got their first one of
the season, and of course now it makes that coach

(12:27):
look like he did the right thing on that. But
Giants defense, they came up with some big plays, huge
interceptions and just you know, really shut to set up
a short touchdown that led in the third quarter where
that gave the Giants said two possession leads. So they
needed it too for what's happening. So that was a

(12:47):
definite what the football moment with that rookie. I was
sad for Baker Mayfield. I mean, I really thought he
could pull it out against the Eagles. And the Eagles
they don't look pretty, they don't look good, but boy,
they are having some ugly football wins. They're four and oh,
Tampa Bay three and one and they beat them thirty
one twenty five. But you know they some people call

(13:09):
it a gritty win. I call it an ugly win. Now,
the conditions, you know, weren't great. The temperatures were over
one hundred. They said it was really hot and so
and muggy, and people were just like not happy. They
kept talking about how hot it was. How many times
are you going to talk about that? But I'm from California,
I now that's where I love. So I'm like, you guys,

(13:29):
don't know what hot is. You know what maybe the mugginess, Yeah,
but you don't know what hot is. But overall, I
think Week four, I just think it had some moments
that were just absolutely crazy. Just sloppiness and block field
goals taken in for either a two point or for
a touchdown. But the amount of block field goals. Now,

(13:52):
special teams they're really we even had one in this
Steeler game. They're really stepping up in a lot of
these games. And so for those players out there that
don't think special teams means anything, think again, you're winning
football games for your team, You're making an impact, and
keep doing what you're doing because you're definitely impacting games

(14:12):
and keeping people's jobs. So shout out to special team players.
Well that's all I have for this Week four. I
may be skipping next week. You might hear a Week
five and six the following week only because I'm on
vacation next week in Hawaii and I don't know if
I'm gonna do anything from next week, but especially since
we're on a buy, I'm taking advantage of that. So everyone,

(14:33):
have a great rest of your week, make it a
great day, and thank you for listening to the still

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
