Speaker 1 (00:39):
I left him plenty of time. When I walked out
of the office, I was the last one to leave
my office. I was locking the door and some lady
in the business park she excuse me, sir, can you
help me? I was like, no, I really can't, but
I did.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
She had some kind of questions that was going on,
and I.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Was trying to be helpful to her. But boy, it
really made me late. I think I can ask about

go out digging with you a few times. Like I
think I dug three days in the row last or
three days last week, and I haven't done that in
a long time. So definitely did some digging and a
lot of visiting with some good friends and our event.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
I can't wait. I can't wait for that. I was
seeing some uh, some Ohio wins inside the chat there,
and I'll be visiting with them and about about a
week or so.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Oh my gosh, you're digging even though there's no more
relics in Ohio.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
But yeah, I'm not expecting to find anything because you
can go apart now find some pultas, but you be
with cool people. That's right, that's right. Let's see who's
all in the chat so far. Well, we don't have
any announcements. Now the rush is done. We don't have
no more, no more housekeeping. Good. All right, let's see
who's in the chat here. We got Bill Hayes, howdy y'all. Hey,

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Trailer trash? Oh four, first time I've seen trailer trash
in there. Yeah, but look at that picture. Oh my
God of color right there.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
That's not trash.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
That's a trailer trash at all.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
It's definitely not in Colorado.
Speaker 7 (03:48):
Man.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
You get that kind of stuff in Colorado, right.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Really well, Bob Rose, good evening from Indiana. Hello Bob, welcome, awesome, awesome, Well,

Speaker 5 (04:04):
It's gonna be fun tonight.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Talked to some good guys here. Yeah, let's see what
else have we got to get to here? Is that
about it?
Speaker 1 (04:12):
I think that's it?
Speaker 6 (04:13):
Man?
Speaker 1 (04:13):
What'd you find you find anything this week worth mentioning?
Speaker 2 (04:17):
You know what we cleaned out? That the the land
that I'm that I we have here fifty acres. We
cleaned it out. I tell you, we had just from
I think seven of us were digging. We pulled out
two five gallon buckets just of iron, just of iron,
and uh, I know, I know. Uh, let's see detecting
(04:39):
sd he found. Did you get the did he text
you last night? There was a piece that he that
he found and he didn't know what it was. And
I think people had said it was a trinket or
uh not a trinket. What is those things called? But
you put the hot pans on Graandma's broke. No, it
wasn't grandma's brooch. Anyways, he did a good we'll search
(05:00):
on it, and sure enough, that's exactly what it was
that he found out at the ranch. Yeah, he was
out at the ranch there and found that. Let's see,
I'm surprised.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
We're still picking stuff out of it, like we've hunted
that for years, we've.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Drivet there we go, trivet. Not a trinket. I wasn't close. Yes,
a trivit. How cool is that? It was awesome? So yeah,
all right, how about we Uh, we're gonna do some
talking about Rush of the Rockies. We're gonna talk about
right here Masters of Medal. Yeah, we're gonna bring on
(05:35):
the champions of uh Masters of Mellow Metal Colorado.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
That would be great because if you said we're bringing
on the Champions of Metal Mass of Metal, and then
you did your little guest thing and then we can't.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah, we won, That's what I would have hoped would
have happened. I couldn't do that. I wasn't gonna do
that to these guys that actually won. Take away from
them at all. Now we we've got the we got
the team that actually won Masters of the Metal Colorado.
Let's bring them on right now, guys, Well, go to
(06:16):
h the Pike's Peak Adventure League. That's right, p p
a L Team p p a L. Hi, guys, Ron Gary,
how are you guys? Man? Hello everybody, So these happy
to have you guys on.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
That's right. These three guys are from down south and
down in Colorado Springs area. They represent Pike's Peak Adventure League.
That's name of your club down there, right, Yes, yep,
we were talking before the show. You said that club
has been around just like Eureka for fifty years.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
How crazy is that?
Speaker 8 (06:51):
Yeah, fifty two years now.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Fifty two years, fifty two years. You got us beat.
That's awesome, don't it's a different.
Speaker 8 (07:02):
Did what's that? Yeah? That's changed games sometimes yeah, but same.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Yeah. Well, you guys are going to be with us tonight.
Speaker 9 (07:14):
He's from Castle Rock, so he's got some preservation board
meeting tonight with Douglas County is something of historic places.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
I guess new permissions.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
In other words, yeah, hopefully, Yeah, that'd be awesome. Hey,
for our audio listeners, why don't you guys introduce yourself
so they can hear who you are. Tell a little
bit about who you are, and uh, that way they
know who what you sound like.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
Steve, go ahead, I'm Steve Mustin.
Speaker 9 (07:49):
I've been medaled to tech about ten years and I
kind of threw this little group together to get this
done at Rush.
Speaker 6 (07:57):
To the Rockies.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
You're the little Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 9 (08:02):
Think you're let me see you back in February or
something when the Rush to Rockies application came out he
said it to me.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
And then once we've seen Masters of Metal or I
see in it anyway.
Speaker 9 (08:17):
I was like, hey, what an opportunity. So I kind
of gathered these guys up and say, hey, let's do it.
Myself was alternate man they did all the hard labor,
all right.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Well, I saw you out there working them in the
field though, Steve, you were doing some target idea with
him and helping him out. So yeah, you were helping out.
You were pushing for sure. So you guys had decided
to come to Rush the Rockies before you decided to
do Masters of Metal, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
Yeah, he had been there. Uh I think four years
ago or three years ago. I had been and then
Gary went a year after that.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Got cha.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
But I enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
So it was your first time run.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Yeah, yeah, we'll talk about that. We'll talk about the hunt.
I know that everyone looked like they were having a
good time and it was fun kind of having you
all out and stuff. And then, yeah, you're right, the
Masters of the Metal just kind of puts a little
extra something on it, and we were excited to be
involved with that. I think it took a while from
mind Lab to make their minds up that they were
(09:24):
coming out here to our event. You know, they can
only come to certain amount of events a year, and yeah,
sort of like, you know, not really last minute, but
Debbie kind of said, you know, I finally found out
that I.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
Can bring Masters Metal to your.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Hunt, and we were all excited. So then we just
went into like plan mode of like how we're going
to do all this and so that it wouldn't interfere
with our hunt, right, That was the kind of important
part Tony. People listening might not know what Rush of
the Rockies is.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
What is Rush of the Rockies? I have no idea,
I mean neither. Okay, moving on, moving on. Rush to
the Rockies is our our national event that Eureka Treasure
Hunting Club Treasure Hunters Club puts on every single year
for the most part, and it's just kind of a gathering.
It's over two days, it's a seated hunt, five different
(10:15):
hunts plus the kids hunt, and it's just really a
great opportunity just to get around people, like minded people.
You know. I was talking with Jason from Detech, SD
and he had never been to an event, and he said,
I cannot believe how uh the the environment that the
(10:35):
communal area that that like, how everybody was so friendly
and like he said, yeah, I could just sit down
next to any person out here and ask them a
couple of questions and we would talk NonStop for about
an hour. You know. It was just just a great
kind of a you know, a gathering I get together
of people who just love metal tucting and uh, you
know you can pick up a little bit of silver
(10:56):
coins here and there, and uh, opportunity to lose to
these guys and Masters of Medal.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
That's what I was looking forward to, losing these guys.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
That's right, Well I always we lost very well, Tody.
Speaker 8 (11:10):
Bring your game, so I award you very close.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Though we're going to preface the whole interview here. I've
got the dumb button, so you just might bragles you
just fall off. I'm speaking to to to this guy
over here, mister Ron. He was the smack talker, I
(11:37):
tell you what.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Not at all.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Well, leading up to this thing, Tony and I were
talking all kinds of smack here show and and to
our club and all kinds of things. I mean, it
was fun.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
We having a good time with it. But uh, you know,
you gotta do it.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Having never done now you guys ever done anyone? Have
you ever done Masters of Metal before?
Speaker 2 (11:58):
No?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Have you done other competition hunts like that or competitions
like that.
Speaker 9 (12:05):
See I just did a note the hunt and detected
the heartland and my brother in law and my niece
and I. They wanted a third person, so I joined
their little group and we won first place.
Speaker 6 (12:17):
About four weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Was it similar.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
It was an id me challenge.
Speaker 9 (12:24):
Basically there was like fifteen targets in the ground in
one area, and then they had four more.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Targets than the others.
Speaker 9 (12:31):
It was Ferris and non Ferris, and they had multiple
targets in some of the spots. But we ended up
getting the first place and we took home triple scores.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Wow. Cool, Wow, it was a good little machine for sure. Yeah.
I've never been to detecting the Heartland, but boy, it
sure is popular. I know that it's a growing every year,
and they do a great job putting on that hunt.
From what I've heard, we had never you know, we
had had people on here as guests that had been
(13:03):
part of Masters of Medal and won it in the past,
and uh yeah, we always hoped we could bring it
to Colorado. So I was glad that Debbie was able
to bring that out. I invited her to come on
tonight so down below you might just see her pop
on and we'll bring her up to the screen.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yeah, if she.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Happens to pull Over. I told her, pull Over, I'm
gonna be traveling Ken pull Over and join the show.
That'd be great.
Speaker 6 (13:27):
Now, from my understanding, there's like three or four regional
events and then they have the.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
National right, Yeah, I don't know how many regionals they have,
but yeah, you're right. They have these regional hunts like
ours was, and then they'll have the championships in Alabama
later this year. Was it Tony in November? October?
Speaker 6 (13:47):
October October?
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Yeah, yeah, it was seventeen. I think there was Friday Friday.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Okay, I think there was five or six regional or
you know, slotted for five or six regional events, you know,
and and through the the rules and the setup, you know,
you take first, second, or third and you are invited
then to go to that the championships. So mhmm. I
(14:14):
wanted to find out.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
Right, I have a chance to bring it back to Colorado.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
There you go. We wanted to ask you guys, are
are you know and you may not have decided yet,
but are you guys planning on heading down to Alabama
representing Colorado?
Speaker 8 (14:29):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (14:29):
We are outstanding? Good ANSWER's going to be there.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
You got second place.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
If you're not first your last. What happened to Steve?
Speaker 2 (14:43):
I warned him, he's in time out, You're not first
your last. I won't do that again. That was rude.
Speaker 6 (14:57):
Run for our money. I'll tell you that.
Speaker 8 (14:59):
It was differ I mean the target idea was difficult.
The I mean, the round robin was difficult. I'm just
I had never goldpanned before, so I mean that was
the learning curve right there.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah, Gary, tell us what the target ID event was.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Yeah, and probably we shouldn't mention any of the of
the targets. I think Daddy didn't want us to mention
any of those.
Speaker 8 (15:25):
So the target idea ID. They gave us a list
of twenty five different items, a sheet at paper, a marker,
and then there was They were numbered and buried in
order from one to twenty five and we just had
to try to guess what those numbers were write him
down on our sheet and what did we have? We
(15:47):
had five minutes to do it, Yeah, minutes, and that
was that wasn't long enough.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
How did you guys do on that? What did you
end up getting? How many gend up getting right?
Speaker 8 (15:59):
I think we got a total of eight right between
three of us and one guy got five of them, right, No, wow,
so very very difficult.
Speaker 9 (16:12):
Yeah, Jeff five, he was all worried about, Man, I
haven't been out detecting, you know, and I'm like.
Speaker 8 (16:17):
Dude, So he got five, He got five out of
the twenty five, right, and was the best. Everyone.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Wow, that's great, that's that's pretty impressive. It's a difficult event.
It's a difficult task. It was so many things sound
alike and some things you know, you just don't really
know what they sound like or come in like, do
you guys have any targets you couldn't find that they buried.
Speaker 8 (16:41):
I did, Yeah, like three, like I think it was two, three,
and four didn't come up very well.
Speaker 7 (16:50):
Yeah, yeah, three or four that were scratching. There was
something there, but that really wouldn't lock in a numbers.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Right, That was just it became a guessing game at
that point. Yes, exactly, yes, right right. I think overall
that was probably the most difficult of the four different
events for sure, And and everybody that we've talked to.
(17:17):
I reached out to some people that participated in other states,
and that was the one they had said that didn't
give me an insider information obviously, because I did so
poorly so, but they had said that that one was
the most difficult. Everybody is very humbled after they come
off with the field from right there, except for your
partner that got five. He was walking pretty high.
Speaker 8 (17:39):
I bet.
Speaker 6 (17:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
At the time, right the timeline, the time restriction really
gets you. I know that. And they're constantly calling it out,
you know, two minutes left, You're like, oh my gosh,
I'm only through like eight out of twenty or something.
I think the last eight targets. I just was like, beep, peep,
give me a number, bank bank bank, pep, give me
a number. Bang bang. Yeah, that's me on my last
(18:03):
eight targets right there in that picture. And I am
just I flew through that because I think I had
like thirty seconds left. So I think I did the
last eight in about thirty seconds.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
And I got two, right, Yeah, can carried our team
had carried the team with two with two, So yeah,
it was it was a little difficult. Here's here's me
trying to figure out something here. I think I was
just choosing C for everything. Oh that didn't work here,
(18:35):
hold on here, even though you had the right ton numbers,
I was choosing C.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Oh my gosh, yes you're out here right. We're hot, man,
We're hot, and it's just blazing warm weekend.
Speaker 6 (18:54):
What was that like, twenty seconds per target?
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Yeah? If that it's basically swing beep, maybe cross it
and look down your list.
Speaker 6 (19:03):
I mean it was pretty fast.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
They do give you a couple of minutes to preview
the list, so that was kind of cool because I
was just like high tones, mid tones, you know, junk tones,
low tones, and like okay, but they're mixed up too,
so that when I would hear a signal, I'd still
have to read all the way through the thing. You
try to guess what the darn thing was.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
And yeah, if you do the math on the five
minutes on twenty targets, you at fifteen seconds per target. Yeah,
And Jason even said not long enough. It's not long enough. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
But I mean if it wasn't challenging, right, it wouldn't
be as fun like it pressing your time like that.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
I know.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Tony and I practiced with Cindy, our teammate, and Beth
we practiced. She had seventeen targets underneath a plate, you know,
at seventeen plates with some targets that she put together.
So she put it all together and we were out
digging this field this ranch one time earlier in the week,
and she laid all these things out one through seventeen,
and we all took turns going over the seventeen targets
(20:03):
and guessing what they were. And it was just based
on the targets that she had. And I went first
and I got four right out of the seventeen and
I just was like, oh my gosh, this is so bad,
this is so terrible. They're gonna kick me off the
team because I only got four out of seventeen. So
then Beth, our alternate teammate, she went second, and she
(20:25):
got four out of seventeen. And then Cindy, who put
the thing together and she only knew what the first
item was that she could remember. She got four out
of seventeen, right, So we were all feeling very humble.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
It was difficult, very difficult. Yeah, Yeah, I was, yeah,
I love it.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
Yeah. When they came off the field, I was like wow,
because they were all saying, oh part it was.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Right right there.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
So you guys, you participated in the rush to the
Rockies hunt to did you guys do all all hunts
all five hunts.
Speaker 8 (21:04):
Yeah weekend, Yeah, yeah, exhausting.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (21:13):
Yeah, pass out, man, it was right in the face, what.
Speaker 8 (21:19):
Along with the masters and yeah it was.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
That's a lot to do.
Speaker 6 (21:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Always kicks our butt on those planet hunts.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
The man.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Yeah, you gotta move quick, man, don't you.
Speaker 6 (21:33):
Gary?
Speaker 8 (21:33):
Yeah, I'm the young I'm the youngest.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
So what's what's your what's your super G fourteen classified
top secret advantage to uh to seated hunts like that?
What do you do? I don't know.
Speaker 8 (21:48):
I don't use any pinpoint. I just I go off
the top of the coil and then uh just try
to get him in there and in the pouch. I
don't I don't see what they are or anything. I
just try to move on to the next it.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Do you shorten your staff, your your chef?
Speaker 4 (22:03):
No?
Speaker 8 (22:04):
I keep it No, I keep it long so I
can reach out there. And I just used this. I
used the stock coil, eleven inch coil. I'd like to
try a bigger coil though, to see if I get
more coverage and I can get some more stuff in
the pouch.
Speaker 7 (22:21):
Just harder to find the exact spot with Biracle. I
try to last day and it was just harder to
find exactly where it is.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
No, I was using the Kneagh cor with the day.
Speaker 7 (22:33):
I was using a small core and it was really
easy because it's right there, but you don't give much covers.
You got to swing like a cinemagon the whole time.
But the big coll cover a lot more area. But
it was harder to find exactly what was harder.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Yeah, and this year, this year we're on private property
for rush and we were able to actually bury them
into into the dirt. So that adds a little bit
more different ficuilty kind of keeps people out there a
little bit longer. I know, the last two times that
we had it, we were in a like a county
park and they wouldn't let us dig, so everything kind
(23:10):
of got thrown on the ground and tried to cover
it up with needles or leaves or whatever. And you know,
if you find a target, man you could just you know,
brush it and it's sitting right there. So yeah, it
was nice to have. I mean I was going to say, like,
you know, watching the hunts themselves, they were forty five
minute hunts, and I tell you you were still finding
targets after thirty minutes, which was good. It kept everybody occupied,
(23:32):
you know, it wasn't like ten minutes and then there's
no targets. So what did you guys think of how
they buried them?
Speaker 8 (23:41):
I thought it was good. Some are a little deep, yeah, yeah, some.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Of the doms were seven or good.
Speaker 8 (23:48):
Seven really.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
When you're when you're trying to be quick.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
And we don't and we don't want that, guys. Yeah,
we actually don't want that. You know, we want those
targets to be found, you know, we don't want to
lay it on top of the surface. But so that's good.
We'll definitely have to talk about that.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
I know.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
It's yeah, you know, it's unique that we plant findes
like that. So yeah, we probably got a little over
zealous with some of our planters, but I think somebody did.
Speaker 8 (24:20):
Yeah. Sometimes when you open start to open up the
whole to find it, I think it sometimes falls deeper
than it actually was at the beginning.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Okay, yeah, that makes sense, right, So you'll sign of
put like a foe in spade in and pull it
back and it'll it'll go deeper.
Speaker 8 (24:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Sure, sure, But.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
You guys think of the terrain now in our past,
like Tony was saying we had we had used it
up at this county Siney County Park, Denver County Park
up and Conifer beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, but our hunt fields
were on like a forty degree pitch. They were they
were on these steep hels. Yeah, Steve, did you go
(24:59):
to that one where we you're up on those steep hills?
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (25:01):
Yeah, so this was a little easier factors at that one,
did you Wow?
Speaker 8 (25:09):
Yeah, pretty steep not Conifer Conifer.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Yeah, so this was a little better, right, I know,
people were still kind of going, wow, we got to
climb those hills. It's it's pretty tough. But compared to Connifer,
I thought it was a little less.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Run yeah from flat landers, and they still thought it was.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
I've never been up to Conofer, so I don't know.
But when we lived at sixty seven hundred feet, so
for me, it was just an average day just walking. Yeah,
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (25:42):
I got some old people walking past me because I've
had this chest thing going on, so it was like
hard to.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
Breathe for me.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Yeah, you were, you were huffing and puffing there.
Speaker 6 (25:53):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 8 (25:54):
Metal detecting isn't We don't have a lot of really
young members. I mean, there's we're mostly older.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
We're trying, we're trying to get the younger and younger
people in there. I know, Eureka truly, especially with Tony
and I, were really trying to push in that direction.
You know, both of us are kind of involved in
the whole social media thing with YouTube and the podcast here,
so we're really trying to take you know, the younger,
younger people and bring them in for sure. I mean,
look at all the wealth of anybody that's out there
(26:25):
listening that is younger and gets into metal detecting. You
have a wealth of information and experience at these clubs.
When you join these clubs and you come in, I mean,
all these guys here would be able to help you
set up your machine, tell you the dues and don'ts
of detecting in your area. They're able to kind of
(26:45):
tell you some tips and tricks on how to go
about getting permissions, and you know what they say when
they used to door knock and all that kind of stuff.
I mean, you can't find that anywhere else. So yeah, right,
really encourage you guys all to come to your local clubs.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Yeah. Absolutely, Speaking of machines, what are you guys all
using ron What do you what did you use out there?
Speaker 4 (27:04):
I've used out there? Have an E track and the
ct X.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
You now have a dance Okay, what don't what machine
don't you have? That might be a shorter list.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
That's all just out there.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Hey Gary, what did you use on RUSHDS?
Speaker 8 (27:27):
Yeah, I've had it for a couple of years. But
before that, mind Lab eight hundred M there's I think
they're similar. They're similar on the depth of things you
can find. I think they're really both really good machines.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
Yeah, yeah, how about you, Steve Equodox.
Speaker 6 (27:48):
Hundred out there? Yeah, I was using he's a recent convert.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
He's a recent.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Convert convert from where.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
He was.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
He was so dedicated to his.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Really well with EQ Yeah, hey, Steve, I I used
gear from day one for many many years. And uh,
and then I just decided to make a jump. And
I'm happy where I'm at, happy where I landed. My
labs are great, great company, great machines.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Yeah, definitely are.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
So if it's if it's not given.
Speaker 9 (28:33):
Because they they were using the d S two S
and they're kind of new to him. And you know, Jeff,
I think he was using the Manic Core, wasn't he. Yeah,
so he's new to that too, And I'm like, okay, guys,
you guys got this man. You know what you're doing,
you know, yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Yeah, yeah, it's uh. You know, everyone always asks, right,
you know, what's the best past metally, what's the best machine?
And we always say it's the one you learn how
to master, you know what I mean? You can you
can find stuff with almost any machine.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
And I go out with these guys all the time
and they're pretty good teachers men. They helped me out
a lot.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
So, well, let me ask you this, because we asked
most of our guests, how did you guys get started?
So Ron will start with you, like how why metal detecting?
You know, we'll come to if he asked this question,
so the other two can be thinking about their answers.
Speaker 7 (29:27):
Well, my dad, back when I was a kid, my
dad was a school teacher and he he taught it
at Saltville High School in Saltville, Virginia. Lots of Civil
War battles around there, and so he got a metal
tector in the late sixties early seventies, and he had
access to a whole bunch of property because all the
(29:47):
students liked him. So he got to detect and two
other teachers wanted to do it too, but they didn't
have detectors, so they would do the dig and he
would do the detecting. They did the dig and everything,
but he didn't take us. But so I went to
the military within the Air Force for twenty eight years.
And then after time I go home, my dad said,
have you started detecting yet? You finally got me interested
(30:09):
back in my twelve years ago.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
And holy cow, fun.
Speaker 7 (30:16):
I started and we started going. When I go to
go to Virginia, I will always stop at parks along
the way, and I always found something. I couldn't freaking
believe that all these old parks have stuff in them.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
So and so then I just come home.
Speaker 7 (30:29):
I showed Steve what I found, and Steve, yeah, my
dad had a I think, I don't think I'll do that.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
So Steve got started.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
You remember that you remember the first thing you found
that really it was like hooked you. Like, I know
your dad was after you, but you know what I'm
saying that the.
Speaker 7 (30:46):
Very first good target I found with a seated dom oh,
and I got really excited. Yeah, And that was the
first day at first day of detecting at a place,
said he, I was, I still never found another.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Yeah, they're tough here in Colorado. Fine for sure, man,
for sure.
Speaker 6 (31:11):
How about you, Steve, I got there in Colorado? Ye,
Gary Massey? Yeah yeah, tell him where Gary?
Speaker 8 (31:23):
Uh, Palmer Lakes.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Kid.
Speaker 8 (31:29):
Yeah, he comes walking up and he's like, what's this?
And yeah, that was a good day.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
It's a great day. Yeah, it sounds like a great day.
Speaker 9 (31:42):
I think I got what I don't know, four or
five marks and yeah, diame and approach, I think or something.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
And I don't remember all the stuff I got.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Who would have thought?
Speaker 6 (31:55):
M h.
Speaker 9 (31:56):
That was right by the water too, so it was
all green and all off in black.
Speaker 8 (32:03):
Yeah I believe.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
I can't believe. You just told him that.
Speaker 8 (32:08):
We got most everything out of there.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Oh yeah, yeah, there's there's no more stuff there.
Speaker 8 (32:14):
Probably, So I got started. My wife bought me a
bounty hunter for Christmas one year. Yeah, she says she
didn't pay more than a hundred bucks for it. But
I was a coin collector before that, so I went
out and tried it, and uh, you know, I really
enjoyed it, and then upgraded to a whit, you know,
(32:36):
a year, maybe not even a year after that. So
I've worn quite a few machines, white scarrets, the mind
lab the day I think I have.
Speaker 9 (32:46):
A when I met him, and that's why I went
to Garrett because he was smoking everybody out there in the.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Fields, and everyone thinks it's a machine. Don't think, Gary,
what they do they do to get me one of
those fisher f seventies or whatever it is?
Speaker 2 (33:03):
You know, all right?
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Do you remember your first find, Gary, that just really
hooked you with your bounty hunter.
Speaker 8 (33:11):
I was mostly going to parks with like elementary schools,
and I was finding. I got quite a few gold
rings by the swing sets, and that's where find It
was awesome finding those, but I wasn't finding I was
finding clad and you know, jewelry, but I wasn't finding
the old coins. And that's what I was interested in.
(33:32):
So that's why I upgraded detectors. And the second time
I took out the whites, I got a. I got
a merk second time out, I think so that I
knew having a better machine meant better treasure.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Did you also change up kind of your places where
you would detect to try to find those older coins.
Speaker 8 (33:56):
Yeah, I was at a bridge tear out along Eye
twenty five when I found that merk. I started doing
curb strips and like older house tear outs, and I
got somebody at a park said hey, you should join
your this local metal detecting club. And it took about
(34:18):
six eight months, but I did join after that, so
I've been a member of about twenty years.
Speaker 5 (34:23):
Wow, that's awesome.
Speaker 8 (34:27):
Yeah. It helps out on private property and and things.
We did a lot of outing, so it's fun to
be around like minded people.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
It sure is.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Yeah, Steve, how about you? What got you into it?
Speaker 6 (34:42):
Well, my dad had one back in the seventies, a
little gold bounty hunter. I played around with it forever
and I don't know, and I just kind of got
away from it. And then when.
Speaker 9 (34:55):
I moved into the neighborhood here, ronaldid across the street
and started talking and that kind of hooked me. And
I was like, well, I work with the guy who
was a member of the club, who haven't the past since,
but I worked with the guy that was in the club,
and that's why I told ron I said, there's a
club in town, let's go check it out. And then
(35:16):
the story in Bob. He sold me a Garrett at Pro.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
I'll be with so yep, good machines man at Pro.
A lot of people started on those. Tony, you that's
what yeah, you know, we used exclusively for a long time.
We first mentioned Tony, I had been digging together since
we got started, right around twenty.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Sixteen something like that, and yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
It's been fun kind of watching each other grow as
digging partners, right, watching each other grow as detectorists, and
being there for each other when we make these incredible
discoveries and stuff, or getting these great permissions right like
we got this week. I said Doug, like three days
this week. I'm not used to doing that. But one
of the days, Tony and I went up and went
(36:03):
after this permission we've been really trying to get, and
we went up there and we got it, and the
guy would only give us a day to detect it.
And then he's because he had made some bad judgments
on people's character in the past, right old rancher farmer guy,
So he just gave us.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
The day to go detect it. And we went there and.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
He has about seven properties that are targets that we
want to go check out home sites, and one of
them was a school, an old school site. So Tony
and I went up there and hit the school site
and you're finding all the typical stuff you think you
would find an old school site, and some really interesting things.
And then I go on, I pull this what was
it Civil Wars staff officer's button egle button.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
Out a school site? Like what was that doing there?
Speaker 1 (36:47):
You know, to make you scratch your head like, oh
my gosh, what was that doing there?
Speaker 6 (36:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (36:53):
Crazy? And I love it had to be.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
I'm going to take this out.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Yeah, yeah, I just love surprise finds like that though,
the places where you're just not expecting to find them
and you come across something like that.
Speaker 5 (37:07):
It's just what's so great about this?
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Now?
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Let me ask let me ask you, what's the unique finds?
Speaker 6 (37:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (37:13):
Those are the best nowadays.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Yeah, what's that? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (37:17):
Unique finds, I mean counter stamped coin or something you've
never found before is the best.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
I love things that you can't identify and you got
to go do the research on them, and anything with
a date or a name or a manufacturer mark or
something like that. It's Tony and I have fall down
the rabbit hole doing some research on some of these items.
So I love finds like that that are unique and unidentified. Really,
we got to go, what is this thing?
Speaker 6 (37:44):
You know?
Speaker 9 (37:46):
I found an expressman's badge from like eighteen ninety eight
I think it was, And it's about the same time.
Speaker 6 (37:53):
That the Angler's hotel down town.
Speaker 9 (37:56):
So I kind of put two and two together with
some of the other finds that we found. But uh,
I went down to the spot downtown by the real
Grand Railroad depot, and uh we hit that spot so
many times. We're finding stuff all the time. I know
these two guys went down there with me, mm hmm
ton stuff.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
You guys found many railroad artifacts in your careers.
Speaker 8 (38:21):
I've got a lock, I've got a Denver and Rio
Grand lock. Oh nice rock that I found eighteen years ago.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
Uh, what's that run?
Speaker 4 (38:37):
Railroad spikes?
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Railroad spikes, I picked those up all the time. Yeah,
I just think they're really neat.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
All your meal across the field railroad spike and I'll
look up, I'll say, okay, I.
Speaker 6 (38:52):
Got a baggage that was kind of cool.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Oh wow, really that's.
Speaker 9 (38:55):
Cool down there. I found that. I go down there
a little bit and with him, so.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
We got a guy Frank Gonzales. He's uh, he was
at Rush to the Rockies. He's from Wolsenburg, and he
does a lot of the uh mining camps from down
there down to Wilsenburg. Yeah, it does really well to
mention down south.
Speaker 5 (39:24):
Yeah, he does really well.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
Uh, he's got the largest collection of tokens I think
I've ever seen y. Yeah, didn't he say his dad
was in the police force down in uh yeah, down
in Wallsenburg, and uh, they used to clean out what
was like the meters or something, or the meters parking meters,
and people would use old tokens for that to try
to trade meters and stuff. So he just has this
(39:48):
huge collection.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
Of these old tokens and stuff and transit.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
Tramway tokens and transit token. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
Pretty yeah, pretty cool. So when Tony and I started,
we were kind of like I hunting parks, graduated to
baby some door knocking, and didn't really know too much
about relic hunting. But once we discovered relic hunting, pretty
(40:14):
much everything else it was it how about you guys,
Like do you consider your guys? Do you each oney?
Do you consider yourself coin shooter? Like whatever? Whatever or
relic hunter. Like, what would you guys consider, I'll go
I'm good.
Speaker 7 (40:31):
I like fine old coins, tokens, stuff like that. I
don't really care about the.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
Talking about.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Yeah, yeah, I like buttons.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
I like civil war.
Speaker 7 (40:44):
Steve and I went to Louisiana back in February and
detected some civil war areas.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
I found a bunch of bullets. Best stuff is really
fun to me.
Speaker 5 (40:53):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
How about you, Gary, what do you consider?
Speaker 8 (40:58):
I'm in all around? I still uh. I still like
to go to parks. I've been, you know. I like
to do the deep coins now try to find you know,
the older stuff. But you know, I still like to
do a playground occasionally, the park, ghost town, you know, whatever,
whatever's going I mean metal detecting. If you're doing that,
(41:19):
you're having fun. So yeah, I'm an all around type.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
Yeah, how about you, Steve?
Speaker 6 (41:26):
Just basically everything, man, I like relly cutting going on. Yeah,
so you guys are swing My girlfriend.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
So my wife doesn't go that far, but every time
I leave the house, he goes find me a ring,
have fun.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
Yeah, all about the rings. We'll do, we'll do. I'm
a relly hunter though much.
Speaker 9 (41:54):
I found my first gold ring at the beginning of
the year with my equin when they told me to switch.
Speaker 8 (41:59):
Really, oh yeah, we had to beg him to switch.
I mean, there's a reason why we're not using the
Garrets anymore. Yeah, you know, none of us they it
was a great machine.
Speaker 6 (42:14):
But I put my name in the dang raffles up
there to win that. Yeah, I didn't win.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
He'd have gone back to the to the Garrett then
if you won that.
Speaker 8 (42:27):
I don't know, right, Yeah, I mean I think I'm
gonna join. Uh, I think we're going to join the
Eureka Club, are you really? Yeah, just to have you know,
a little more. Yeah, have that connection and that's awesome. Yeah,
(42:48):
that'd be.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
That'd be great for sure.
Speaker 6 (42:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
I know you guys a little far down south and stuff,
but we do our events and stuff.
Speaker 5 (42:53):
You know, I'll get together.
Speaker 6 (42:54):
That'd be.
Speaker 5 (42:55):
That'd be a lot of fun.
Speaker 8 (42:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (42:57):
I think goes up there all the time. He loves it.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Who does Daniel Dan Dan?
Speaker 6 (43:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (43:04):
Yeah, but yeah, you know, Steve, you get that new
machine and any find a gold ring with it, You're
probably like, this is the best machine in the world.
Speaker 6 (43:13):
I enjoyed the Equinox man.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
Yeah, Now you guys swinging the day.
Speaker 6 (43:20):
I enjoyed Metal Detective with my friends. Yeah, it's the
best we Jeff and I went to England last year
with American Digger magazine.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
Yeah, oh that hunt all right, Yeah, that.
Speaker 6 (43:33):
Was a fun deal. There was that your first I'll
never be able to do anything like that again, you know.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
But was that your first time over there?
Speaker 6 (43:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (43:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (43:47):
But then I went to Detention and Heartland. They have
Roman coins out on the ground.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
Man, I'm like, no, that's not fair, that's not fair.
Speaker 1 (43:56):
How about the other two? Rona, Geary, you guys ever
been overseas doing some detecting.
Speaker 4 (44:02):
Yeah, but I want to go.
Speaker 1 (44:04):
You want to go both? You want to go?
Speaker 7 (44:05):
Yeah, you want to go Trying to get in with
Chris Davis. He goes in August this year and he's
going to He's already signed up for next year as well.
I'm gonna try to get on that tour.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Okay, yeah we have I haven't. I've only been to
Colchester with the Colchester Group. Yeah a couple of times.
Tony's been once with me and then, uh, we haven't done.
We haven't done the American Digger tour. We haven't done. Uh,
Chris Davis's group someday I'd kind of like to go
check that out. Him and Jacko all the time.
Speaker 8 (44:35):
M hm, would you did you like the Colchester?
Speaker 1 (44:39):
You know, we did. We we loved it. I've been
twice because I liked it so much the first time.
You know, like anything, right, there's certain quirks that is
something for some people and not other people, Like Chris
Davis is like, what do you mean you stayed in
a bird barn? You know, I'm in a hotel and
I'm doing this or that. I give each other the
(45:00):
business all the time, So I'm not talking crap about
we give each other the business. But yeah, I mean
the group of Colchester, they man, if you ever go
on the website, it's like a museum online.
Speaker 5 (45:11):
It's the most amazing thing.
Speaker 8 (45:12):
Yeah, Bob Dewitz went over there with them, and he
swears by him that's the only place he says he'll
ever go with this cloud.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
The land they put you on is incredible. The fines
they have pulled out of there's incredible. Nothing's hunted out.
They deep plow over there, so they keep turning things up. Yeah,
and this bird barn thing, this bird farm they hold
old bird barns that they've completely refurnished inside and tournamenting
these incredibly livable, just wonderful living quarters with kitchens and
(45:42):
and you know, all of all kinds of stuff for
us to just stay there. And then you know you're
in this great countryside, beautiful area. But just the land
they put you on is just incredible. But we're driving
in the van. We're driving, He's like, okay. The guy
driving the van is like, okay, here we go. Okay,
So you see this over here, that's three hundred acres
(46:02):
we have that, We have that plot of land, the
three hundred acres in front of it, three hundred acres
behind it. Times two over here we have three hundred acres,
then nine hundred acres over here. I mean, as we're
driving down the road, and this is just one stop
out of numerous stops we're going to make throughout the
seven day through seven day week.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
So you get almost it's almost a different farm every
seven day, you know, every day for the seven days.
And the surrounding acres around it are you know, hundreds,
if not up to one thousand that you can go anywhere,
and it's a different spot every single day.
Speaker 1 (46:35):
Yeah, it's crazy. Get up somewhere, go yeah, go go
to tech for eight ten hours and then come back,
get some dinner, take some advil, go to bed, do
it all over again, just constantly. You know, Hey, there's
Harber charge your stuff. Yeah, learn how to use your headphones.
(46:58):
Learn where the volume button is on your headphones, right Tony,
It helps.
Speaker 2 (47:02):
Yeah, we were talking about England here and Digging Buddy
was in the chat earlier. That's who we actually went
through to get over to England.
Speaker 1 (47:11):
I know Chicago Ron. There's also Digging Buddy. We've been
going through Digging Buddy. Jeff Barber's in a group. He said,
the Chicago Ron also has an Aruba. True, that's pretty cool.
That'd be fun. Good see you, Jeff. We've been We
went with him on one of the trips. But yeah,
a lot of fun, a lot a lot of fun.
You guys using the dais you say you like to
(47:33):
find deep coins? Gary, are you just how are you?
Speaker 2 (47:36):
How?
Speaker 1 (47:37):
Are you just just listening to the sounds for those faint,
faint signals that are through there.
Speaker 8 (47:42):
I'm not gonna tell.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Are you using are you using the pinpoint trick?
Speaker 1 (47:47):
Are using that pinpoint trick.
Speaker 8 (47:49):
No, no, no, all.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
Right, I'm gonna wait till you come to a club meeting,
and I'm gonna I'm gonna grilly on that.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
Let's talk off line.
Speaker 6 (47:57):
I did hear him say that the Audien hunts it
one mode.
Speaker 4 (48:01):
Oh yeah, you don't.
Speaker 8 (48:04):
Need you don't need a custom mode to find stuff.
You can hunt in park mode and find plenty.
Speaker 1 (48:10):
Yes you can, or even the mono even that, you know,
bringing it down to a day, this one will do
very good, do very well, for sure. But a lot
of people swear by that park. Weren't you give me
a big time about the bad time about the park mode?
Speaker 2 (48:23):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (48:23):
We were, we were getting ready to.
Speaker 8 (48:25):
Beat No, I was just I was just mentioning it.
Speaker 1 (48:29):
Okay, all right, I haven't. Uh, I did some testing
with the park mode, but I hadn't. I haven't hunted
with it yet. Well, actually I did. I went to
a soccer park and I think A hunted in park mode, right,
But you must have got there before me, because I
didn't find nothing.
Speaker 8 (48:46):
Talking about Masters of Metal, how how hard was the
round robin? I mean it took most of the teams,
uh yeah, jump, It took a little over an hour.
Or something for some teams.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Yeah, so let's describe. Let's talk about that. Let's describe that.
So we've already talked about the target ID. That was
the first event, and basically you could do that at
any time, right. They allow you to come and just
do that at any time at your leisure. Also, the
gold panting, they let you come and do that anytime
at your leisure. The two scheduled hunts were the token
(49:23):
find the token hunt, and the claim jumper. Well, somebody
want to take a shot at describing the claim jumper
of what you needed.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
To do.
Speaker 4 (49:35):
Right good.
Speaker 8 (49:37):
Basically, there was four different sections. One detectors started in
first section. There was another one stage the second section.
In the third section, the guy in the first section
had to find his target, which could have been they
told us what it was, but there were also still
tokens in the field. Once he found his, the second
(50:02):
person could go. Once he found his, the third person
can go, and then the person that was in the
first strip went also in four and then you had
to do that as fast as fast as you could
to find the targets. And the targets there were some
(50:23):
bottle caps out there, but they all didn't have an
American flag on them, so you had to find the
one flag. The little washer was very little and they've
had to have a zip tie on it. And that
washer was little.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
That was the toughest.
Speaker 8 (50:39):
Yeah, that was the toughest.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
And then they had so they I talked to Debbie.
She says she changed it all the time. So sometimes
it'll be a very specific thing, like you'll have to
go find something and it'll be of a specific color.
So they'll have a ton of these other things out there,
like you know, you have a bunch of tokens and
they're all green, but you have to find a red
one or something like that. They changed it all the time.
Speaker 8 (51:01):
And I think there was still like two hundred tokens
out there that you get through. I mean, you listen to.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
How many did you guys find looking for your darned
claim jumper tokyo?
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (51:14):
I found so many of those green tokens.
Speaker 4 (51:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (51:17):
Very first, the very first section I did, and my
fourth target was the one with the identified that they
when we needed. I think I think yours was a
burst person. But I found the fourth target and then
handed off to the chef and he did the bottle
caps and It took him a while to find his
(51:37):
because he had to go to all metal and the machine,
but to be able to find get the signal from
the bottle caps.
Speaker 4 (51:43):
Yeah, and then but Gary was digging a little washers,
one after the other, little washers, little washer and just that.
Speaker 6 (51:54):
Yeah, that stood fourteen minutes for forty two seconds.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
His cruise through it.
Speaker 1 (52:01):
You guys, guys, Yeah, we were so excited, man, because
you know, we were right up there with you guys.
We're battling you guys all the time. We knew that
last event would probably decide it. And uh because we
had we I think we got first in the token hunt,
and we got first in Goldpenning, and you guys were
like the opposite in the other hunt. So we're like, yeah,
so we're like, man, we we know that last event
(52:23):
is what it's going to take. And Tony went first
in the first zone. I was in the second zone,
Cindy was in the third zone, and then Tony was
going to repeat in the fourth zone. Tony, how many digs?
How many targets did you dig before you found what
you needed to find?
Speaker 2 (52:40):
So for the first one, I think I dug one
one target and I found the.
Speaker 1 (52:47):
M so he immediately yells kill go right, and he's
finding the judge and all that stuff. So I ain't
have my machine turned on yet. So I'm turning on
my machine and he's over there.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
Going go go, go go.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
I'm like, it's booting, it's booting, and guys, it's set,
you know. I hit the thing. I swung and I
got my target and it was immediately it was the flag.
It was the flag bottle cap immediately, first first thing.
So we're going into the third zone before anybody had
hardly ever even started beeping, and I was thinking, we've
(53:22):
got this and we've got this. Oh my gosh, everybody
it was luck. And then when we got to that
third zone, no no, no, no dig on Cindy at all.
It's just it's luck. It's you know. And I saw her.
She was doing so great. She was like gritting the area,
thinking I'm going to hit it at some point.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
I'm going it's a numbers game. Yeah, it's you just
got to dig and dig and dig, and so you
find luckily, whatever one it could have been, the first
one could have been the hundredth you know, hole that one.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
So when Cindy's the only one in the third zone swinging,
and I'm looking and it's like and finally somebody came
from the first zone into the second zone. I'm like,
we still got this, we got this yet, City said
she dug thirty targets.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
We got this, We got this. And then uh uh.
Speaker 1 (54:08):
And then somebody end up popping up in the third
zone and I was like, come on, we've got this.
And Tony's over there poised for the fourth zone, and
you guys just came buzzing right through.
Speaker 7 (54:20):
Man.
Speaker 9 (54:20):
I was like, oh, man, yeah, I think it was
after thirty minutes that everybody could jump in, right.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
Yeah, yeah, after thirty minutes, right, if the person hasn't
found the target in thirty minutes, the rest of the
team can jump in and help find the target to
move it along. And I think and then Tony explained
this to me. Maybe you guys know too, Like did
they allow you to go ahead and jump into the
fourth zone to try to find that target?
Speaker 4 (54:48):
Yeah, anywhere you wanted to whatever or whoever they had
the targets see.
Speaker 1 (54:52):
And I didn't even I didn't wasn't even aware of
that because I had my head was down and I
was trying to find. I was trying to find those
the third zone targets, the washer, the little washer, and
all of a sudden I hear Cindy and Tony yell
at me, Ken, we found the fourth zone target, So
come on, let's go, you know. And I was just like,
I do the best I can here. You know, those
(55:13):
washers were tiny, man.
Speaker 2 (55:16):
I gotta tell you. On the fourth one, it was
it was the pool tabs or the pop tabs or whatever.
And almost every target that I found was one of
those mind lab tokens that were screaming, and so I
knew that I was looking for, you know, a real
you know, a mid tone, and I just kept hitting
all these tokens. I'm like, you gotta be kidding me.
Speaker 7 (55:39):
Well, the fourth section, it was my fourth fourth target
in the first fourth target.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
Nice, you guys, you absolutely just cruised right through there.
Speaker 6 (55:50):
Yeah, you just seen everybody go at the end of
that because they're all dumping their bags looking for that one.
That's right.
Speaker 1 (55:59):
Yeah, area is at the end. You have to turn
in all four of the targets to prove that you
found those targets. You guys were dumping your bags left
and right.
Speaker 8 (56:08):
Well, the third place had to go back out onto
the field twice for fifteen minutes, so they spend another
forty five minutes or whatever out there trying to beat
each other.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
Yeah, third and fourth, Yeah, yeah, that's crazy, right, they
were tired there skinning run right there.
Speaker 7 (56:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (56:29):
Yeah, we were having fun.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
Yeah, it was a lot of fun. Right.
Speaker 7 (56:34):
We were looking at the scoreboard and sure and sure
for people who were way behind, and it happened. So
that was awesome because we knew if you guys been
a second, what's the way you're finishing.
Speaker 6 (56:51):
Yeah, yeah, and what a beautiful property, big man? Would
you have forty two targets?
Speaker 2 (56:59):
Tony got forty three token forty three tokens.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
Yeah, we had eighty eight total between the.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
Three forty three tokens in twenty minutes.
Speaker 1 (57:06):
I got sixteen in the ten minutes I was in
the first ten minute section.
Speaker 4 (57:09):
I got sixteen twenty two in the first.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
Wow, twenty two to ten minutes. That's amazing, man. We
we hit eighty eight tokens in that hour. It was great.
So needless to say, you guys got the big prices
right check right there.
Speaker 4 (57:27):
Yeah, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 8 (57:29):
Unbelieva, though I can't believe. Yeah, I can't believe it happened.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
Cost you fifty bucks to register and you guys twenty
five hundred dollars holding.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
In your hand out there. It's a good turn right
there in the middle.
Speaker 4 (57:41):
And Steve was a great chirt leader. All he was
missing with the skirt.
Speaker 2 (57:47):
Oh skirt and Tom.
Speaker 6 (57:54):
It takes a brilliant mind to put a team together
like that.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
Yeah, he's the mastermind. He's the Bill Belichick of Metal Attectic,
you know.
Speaker 9 (58:08):
Personally, I mean when this whole thing started, I figured
it was only fifty bucks. We're gonna get a T shirt,
had we're gonna have fun doing it, you know. Yeah,
I didn't think the prices were gonna be twenty five hundred.
Speaker 6 (58:20):
I thought that was a.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
Nationale, right right.
Speaker 8 (58:24):
Yeah, big shout out to mind Lab.
Speaker 6 (58:27):
Yeah, huge, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (58:30):
Amazing that you guys are putting that on across the nation.
Speaker 6 (58:33):
Yeah. I had never met her before, but first thing,
Jazz was like, I'm missing my headphones. Oh no. So
I was like right there and I was saying, hey,
somebody got into the headphones, and Debbie's like she walked
over the trailer, grabbed a brand new set of Marlo's
headphones and gave it to Jazz.
Speaker 2 (58:51):
Huh.
Speaker 5 (58:52):
How cool was that person Yeah, she was really personable.
Speaker 4 (58:56):
It's very nice.
Speaker 1 (58:57):
Yeah, she does a lot for mind Lab.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
Man.
Speaker 1 (59:00):
She works her butt off, goes around, puts on these
events and travels the country and man. Yeah, a big
shout out to her and her crew. She had her
own media team with her this time. I hadn't seen
that travel with her before. We've seen her a few times,
and I'm glad they're doing that too. You know, she
needs help. I don't know yet.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
Because we never know.
Speaker 1 (59:22):
We've never seen them out there, So that would be
a good question for Debbie.
Speaker 4 (59:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
I mean, if you're listening, pull over and give us
a come on in. Got We got a bunch of
questions for you.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
She did a phenomenal job and and for you know,
for each like we said, I think there's five or
six regional events. Each one of them first place was
twenty five hundred dollars, fifteen dollars, eleven hundred dollars. So
I mean, you're you're talking a lot of a lot
of a lot of big checks out there, and for
them to just travel and do that, uh, and then
pay them throughout exactly yep, yep, and then down at
(59:58):
the at the final there in Alabama. I think I
don't even know what they're giving away. I thought it
was metal detectors like all that, you know, kind of
like the the Nocto one was, you know, everybody gets
a manicore if they win or something like that.
Speaker 8 (01:00:10):
Plus that's it too.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Yeah, so you know, always a big cup.
Speaker 9 (01:00:18):
Yeah, team members. So I think it was Jeff put
on a video of the twenty twenty three championship that
was pretty cool.
Speaker 6 (01:00:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:00:30):
Yeah, the group put cameras on and it posted that.
Darius sent it to me on Friday, and I was
at least an idea of.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Right, that's great, Yeah, a huge shadow. They just knocked
it on.
Speaker 9 (01:00:45):
The part gets participated that one or not as far
as I know, as if somebody that doesn't show up,
just just bring your.
Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
Skirtains, just get him a sweatshirt. You can cut the
sleeves off. We're gonna go the Bill Belichick run now
the cheerleader. I don't know if you guys saw, but
(01:01:16):
we were over there. We had our we had our
Relics radio tent set up. We were broadcasting live from there.
A couple of times this weekend. And uh, if you
guys can't get a chance to check it out, go
over to Tony and I YouTube channel. You can see
us broadcasting live out there from the Rush of the
Rockies event. And uh, we had all of our friends
hanging around us and they came over there were our
cheering section.
Speaker 1 (01:01:36):
Do you see him over there doing the wave? They
were over there doing the wave, And yeah, I thought
that was I thought that was funny. I got a
kick out of that.
Speaker 8 (01:01:45):
So question, I won the Equinox nine, Keep it reduce
away or what do you think?
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
Mm?
Speaker 8 (01:01:58):
Six o'clock more seven o'clock.
Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
Mm hmm, Well hold on to it for sure.
Speaker 8 (01:02:07):
Yeah it's a machine.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
Great machine, but that D two is mighty find machine might.
Speaker 6 (01:02:16):
Have upgrade from my eight hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
There Gary go, there you go.
Speaker 8 (01:02:21):
There we go.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
Sell him for his piece of the pie from the
just have to sign the check over to you.
Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
There we go.
Speaker 6 (01:02:30):
I think I get Gary's piece of the pie. He
hasn't in my twelve bucks yet for.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
There he's waiting for the winnings to roll in.
Speaker 5 (01:02:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:02:42):
Whatever, we didn't do it for the money. We did
it just for the competition.
Speaker 2 (01:02:46):
Just for the fame and fortune.
Speaker 8 (01:02:50):
Me and Ron go out a lot together, and when
Ron finds something, it's it starts the competition, and I'll
usually find something after and we kind of go back
and forth. I think competition is a good thing, agreed.
Speaker 7 (01:03:05):
Yeah, we're very similar. I'll beat him one day and
he'll beat you the next day, so it's it's not that.
Speaker 6 (01:03:10):
Then they take me out and I smoke them both.
Speaker 8 (01:03:12):
So nothing once, Steve.
Speaker 4 (01:03:18):
Definitely wasn't a trend.
Speaker 5 (01:03:21):
That's funny.
Speaker 4 (01:03:24):
I'm sure you guys are compete with each other too.
Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
Yeah, I mean that's we're all alike when we're all
real life, you know, Tony I we have the added
benefit that I swing the D two and he swings
the Manicore, and those two are kind of always going
head to head compared against each other. It's we're always
talking crap about each other. But I will always give
him the compliment that says I've seen his detecting change
complete one eighty improvement when he started swinging that mantic core.
(01:03:51):
The amount of good finds he finds versus the bad
finds has completely flipped. He digs so little trash because
he's learning that machine so well that it's really cool
to see him at the end of the day and
all the all the finds he found, he was able
to determine. We're pretty interesting every now and you get fooled, right,
but definitely different than he does he did before he
(01:04:12):
got that machine.
Speaker 6 (01:04:13):
Mhm, it's spot hit that little spot where that little
target is.
Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
Isn't that amazing?
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
You gotta swing over it, you know? Yeah, the way
that it goes middle.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
Is this a big old world that we can go where
we're gonna go and take our little coil and find
something that's been waiting in the ground for a couple
of hundred years, just waiting for you to come along.
Speaker 5 (01:04:34):
It's it's just amazing.
Speaker 6 (01:04:35):
You guys are so close. We got to get together sometimes.
Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
Hey, let's do it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, I'm a lot closer than Ken. He's
up north, see what I mean. So yeah, well I'll
take I'll take him out, go out. I'll send you pictures.
Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
You know where we get we get in trouble is
when we used to door knock. We used to door knock.
So we go up and we go up together. Hey, yeah,
you know, mister, how you doing sir? Blah blah blah,
and uh they go, yeah, sure, you know you have
a big, huge front yard. And then being buddies, we'd
always say, okay, what what side of the yard do
you want? And I don't know it's my age or what,
(01:05:14):
but I was never smart enough to pick the good
side of the yard that was in the shade. Like
we're all kids played like had all the coins dropped
at it. I'm always out there sweating in the sun,
not finding anything. He's over there finding all the good stuff.
It happened so many times it became a joke between us.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
Absolutely. I got a couple of pictures I wanted to
share with you guys. This was hopefully it comes up
right here. This was hold on here, come on. This
was ken. He was he was a little hot, he
needed some water, a little dehydrated.
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
Uh well, they were teasing me, saying it looked like
I put my number on when I was drunk. So
I'm my god, let me just strike the post, buddy.
I appreciate you putting that picture up. Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
Oh yeah, you're the one that sold to take care
of the pictures tonight. So great. So this this here
was one of the prizes that was given away for
a token at one of the hunts there. Oh wow,
I don't know. I don't know if you guys had
seen that. That was the last hunt number of price
token number twenty five, the last time. That's a revolver
(01:06:22):
minus the barrel there, but it's in a shadow box.
And what an incredible uh prize? That's that was one
out of third about thirty for five hunts.
Speaker 6 (01:06:35):
Yeah, I did see that. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 8 (01:06:37):
Yeah, it's it's unique.
Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
What do you guys think about the number of coins
in the ground and also about the token prizes? Do
you guys think they were sufficient? Do you think they
were good? Okay? Good?
Speaker 7 (01:06:49):
I like the way they were good targets interspersed. There
wasn't like one had the best and two had the
second best and three. You had good stuff all the
way to help regardless of course token.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
Yeah, and that had to do. Actually, Ken's not going
to say it. He he came up. It took him days,
but he sat down and he divvied up all of
the prizes in every hunt to make sure that they
were equal essentially for dollar amount wise.
Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
Or every even those bags, even those bags, like you know,
the dollar value in those bags started at around forty
to fifty bucks, and we had so much stuff leftover,
swag hat shirts, stuff like that, brushes, all the stuff.
We just started stuff stuff and all the bags just
started stuffing stuff in there. So oh, look at that. Yeah,
that that's cool.
Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
This is this is the one that I wanted. Sharon,
she did, she did. And the guy, hey Ken, the
guy that drove from Tennessee, traded his silver bullet for that,
uh that container, though I didn't forgot his name.
Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
Yeah, Steve Buckner. Fucking yep.
Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
So this is an actual gym bottle of Jim Beam
from eighteen fifty nine, and it says Rush to the
Rockies right on it, and yeah they it was one
that was sold back in you know, back in the
day or whatever. Unfortunately this one had been opened and
removed the contents inside. But I know I checked, Uh,
(01:08:25):
all of the contents were gone.
Speaker 6 (01:08:29):
That's isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
It was? It was big, It was it was probably
that big.
Speaker 6 (01:08:36):
Yeah, I believe it's Jim Beam.
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Though it was Jim be Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
Yeah, yep, this isn't the bottom there?
Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
Pretty cool, That is very cool.
Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
We had a lot of cool One of the coin sets,
the wooden boxes. Yeah, beautiful.
Speaker 6 (01:08:53):
Yeah, it was beautiful.
Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
One of our those are our members put that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
Together, Greg, Greg correct thy John.
Speaker 8 (01:09:02):
Yeah, he went to a lot of work for all that.
So appreciate that. I got one of his bullet box.
I got the bullet one, the Winchester twenty two long.
Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
Right, I saw that. That was awesome.
Speaker 8 (01:09:13):
It's neat.
Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
Yeah. John did did those personalized boxes as well as
he casted all of the arrowheads, the silver arrowheads, and
I got one. You got a bullet, You got a bullet.
Speaker 8 (01:09:25):
Era I got those are awesome arrowhead Yeah yeah, I
got a bullet bullet two years ago.
Speaker 1 (01:09:33):
Great, Yeah, the beautiful man. Those things come out great,
and they're unique, you know what I mean, Like those
are really coveted prizes because they were so unique, and
I mean somebody handmade those and stuff and any gold nuggets,
any gold nuggets won between you guys. No, No, let
me show you guys a picture. This one came out
pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
I was gonna pull up the uh right in the
back here, Uh is that bullet that It's a silver
nine nine nine silver and it was casted to a
fifty eight mini ball as well. As all those you know,
silver round spider coat knives, all that kind of stuff.
(01:10:16):
But I wanted to show that bullet. I can't zoom
in on it, but what a cool unique find.
Speaker 8 (01:10:22):
Ken The case is unique too. It's very cool.
Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
Did you guys the prize that John Olsen put out
that was the arrowhead Oh yeah, that his mother found
in what nineteen sixty eight, sixty eight and that he
used that to cast a silver arrowhead and the man
that was that was pretty cool. That that little prize,
that little box that.
Speaker 5 (01:10:46):
He put together was was really really cool.
Speaker 8 (01:10:49):
Yeah, that was very cool.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
So it's kind of like that personal connection. You know,
a lot of people have been posting around the internet
about the hunt and everything's been pretty positive, which I
really appreciate because we, you know, the club works really
hard to put that on. We're always trying to improve,
so we're always looking for you know, uh, improvement ideas
and stuff like that. But this is Tom F. A.
Patten put this picture out. I want to share it
(01:11:15):
with you. I think we were looking.
Speaker 5 (01:11:16):
At it before the showing on.
Speaker 1 (01:11:20):
Check this out.
Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
He took all of his fines and put him in
a cool little uh display. Yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:11:26):
Yeah, check that out, you know what I mean, Like,
that's nice, that's pretty cool. That's a cool little display there.
Got his little gold nuggets, the nugget.
Speaker 2 (01:11:36):
Yeah, and he said that was the pick axe. You
put them in the in the display of a pick
axe there.
Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
Yeah, that's really cool, man. Thank you for doing that
for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:11:49):
Looks like a retired drive lots of time on his.
Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
Right.
Speaker 6 (01:11:58):
I'll tell you you guys and Nancy and Jeff Luber,
you guys all worked your butts off Ron who lived
Eric soon. A lot of people there.
Speaker 8 (01:12:08):
We appreciate that too.
Speaker 6 (01:12:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
Yeah, it's too a lot of work behind the scenes.
Speaker 4 (01:12:14):
Yeah, the spot next doc and.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
I don't know what we'll do now, yeah, I mean, yeah,
all those people, man, we got some really cool core.
We got some cool members.
Speaker 9 (01:12:25):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
We got a lot of new members that are coming
in and they're always willing to jump in and help
and how can I help and what can we do?
And they're finding good stuff. You know, we have our
Find of the Month club and our Find of the
Month contest. A lot of them want to join the
Heart the Heart group. I don't know if you guys
are familiar with Heart, but they're always sort of really
really really good people coming in. They want to learn
(01:12:45):
how to do it the right way. We just got
them filming a video about how to dig in parks
correctly and retrieve your targets correctly, uh, doing like pro
probe digging and slit digging and stuff like that. And uh,
everyone's really interested in doing it the right way for sure.
So uh but yeah, Ron and Linda and Jeff and
all those guys have been around for Chris Davis and
they just they're real top notch people and they're great
(01:13:08):
detectriss man. So I'm glad you guys got a chance
to come out again. I know Gary said you've been
for in Steve. But yeah, So what we'll do is
we'll get together as a committee. We'll get together as
a group and come together and talk. We'll probably have
a meeting and talk about how it went, what went well,
what didn't go so well, some of the feedback we got,
(01:13:30):
you know, what our desires are for doing it again
next year, and start talking about all that right away.
We'll start talking about all that right away, and so
we'll see, we'll see. Uh, it takes a lot. I mean,
everyone was pretty worn out at the end of this one.
And you know, you have a lot of regulations surrounding,
like your promises you've made to landowners as far as
(01:13:52):
how many people, how many cars when we get there,
when we get out of there, that kind of stuff.
So I know Nancy was really doing a good job
trying to keep people on task and get people in
there and get people out of there, you know. So
it's it's it's tough. She's been running it, basically running it,
keeping us all organized and keeping us all on task
(01:14:12):
for a number of hunts. Now I always wonder if she's.
Speaker 5 (01:14:15):
Just getting worn out and saying I don't want to
do that anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
But we'll see, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
Ron you had asked if we were going to do
the same location next year, we'll discuss it as a committee.
For sure, I liked it because it was private property.
I liked it because it was close to where I live,
uh uh home every day exactly exactly. No, it was
a great place. The picture that we're showing here, you
can see, you know, it's kind of open fields. It
(01:14:44):
was you know, it's it's it's pasture land, grazing land,
and you got the ponder Rosa's up there behind it
and stuff. It was very, very beautiful, and I mean personally,
I know that I will vote to have it there
again next year if we can do that. I did
like to look exactly. Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 1 (01:15:01):
Loved it too. Like where everyone's looking right now. You
could look out over this valley because we're in a
little bit of an elevated rise and you just looked
out over this valley for as far as you can see.
It was just beautiful.
Speaker 5 (01:15:12):
Definitely beautiful place.
Speaker 8 (01:15:14):
I agree.
Speaker 6 (01:15:16):
Let's see the medals.
Speaker 1 (01:15:21):
The medals, I have mine here, anybody else got there
sitting around? I got mindset dis Yeah, now is where
you're where you're.
Speaker 4 (01:15:37):
That's such a good picture.
Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
It's a great picture just leaping at us going for Well,
we definitely support you guys going out to Alabama and
and and representing uh, you know, Colorado. But those we
we got to talk about it. I don't know if
I'm gonna be able to make that. Come on, let
(01:16:00):
me see.
Speaker 1 (01:16:02):
If all of us go back out there, we have
good chance of Colorado bringing it home right one way
or the other. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
Yeah, well, we'll get all together and we'll do some training.
We'll we'll be kind of like the trainers for you guys,
and we'll put you through some you know, some regiments
and some.
Speaker 1 (01:16:17):
You know, start doing some calisthenics.
Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
You know. Yeah, yeah, we've already talked about practicing, you
know what we were for on So absolutely, that's funny.
We had I don't even think I was off the
property and I got text message from Cindy. She's like,
all right, this is what we're gonna do for next year.
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
She's really competitive, man, She's just slightly and she was
so nervous. Though I've never seen Cindy like that ever.
Her and I've detected a lot. She's this great, great person,
and she was like shaking almost. She was so nervous.
She's like, I don't know why I'm so nervous. She goes.
She was right Tony. She was just like, is it
time to go? What time are we going to go?
Is it almost time over there?
Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
Over there? Let's go?
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
Oh we got to be over there. It was great.
So we talked about two events. We talked about two events.
We didn't talk about the other two. We talked about, uh,
the claim jumper, and we talked about the last event. Well,
we talked about target ID and claim jumper, but there
was a token hunt. So how did that work? Guys?
Somebody want to talk about it? Ron? How about you?
Speaker 7 (01:17:19):
Well, I was in section one. No, I was out
there first. I had ten minutes down twenty two targets.
Targets were they.
Speaker 2 (01:17:27):
Were pretty easy at these streamers.
Speaker 7 (01:17:31):
Dig them a crazy card to get the hole fell
next time you swinging before you got up.
Speaker 6 (01:17:36):
Yeah. Jeff was second and he got twenty three I
believe in twenty minutes. Yeah, twenty minutes. And then Gary
after he was exhausted. I was out there for thirty minutes.
I felt bad for him, but I yelled him, come on, Gary,
dig faster.
Speaker 8 (01:17:54):
Yeah it was rough. I got thirty four targets in
the thirty minutes.
Speaker 4 (01:17:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
Okay, So things ended out and you were also, you know,
it was tired from being out on the hill digging,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 7 (01:18:06):
Yeah, yeah, but you get extra jolt, extra bit of
adrenaline when you're doing a different competition or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
I was digging fast and hard and I was sucking
air like like no other I tell you that was
That was a good competition. And Cindy by the time
Cindy got out there, you know, for the for the
thirty minutes with you Gary, there was nothing but deep
targets left. You know. We on the ten and twenty
we picked everything off the top. It was easy, quick, quick,
fast digging. She was digging, you know, I mean, I
(01:18:39):
think Debbie had said that they had put some down
as deep as fourteen inches. So not only were you
guys going thirty minutes, but you're also digging those deep,
deep plugs with the pinpointer down there, finding it in
a sidewall like trying to I mean, that was probably,
you know, one of the most difficult parts of a
lot of the hunts.
Speaker 4 (01:18:59):
Right yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:19:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:19:02):
And then there was the gold panning. So set us up.
Set us up for the gold pan. What the kind
of they do? They had a pan of water there
with a bunch of sand in the.
Speaker 5 (01:19:14):
Bottom of it, right, Yeah, there's a pan.
Speaker 8 (01:19:19):
They filled up our pan and then they put four
placer nuggets in there, and then we had to get
it down to the bottom and put the four plaister
nuggets in a separate pan off to the side of
the trough. And it was timed time, so five minutes
was maximum time. Yeah, So how long did it take you? Wrong?
(01:19:44):
You got it in three twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
Two thirty eight seconds.
Speaker 8 (01:19:50):
It took me like three minutes and forty one seconds,
fifty one seconds something like that.
Speaker 7 (01:19:56):
And then there's just two fifty one and then our
third guy timed out.
Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
Yeah, tinned out.
Speaker 6 (01:20:09):
Gotcha, Davy Crockett Man, they whipped that day.
Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
Davy got one on one.
Speaker 4 (01:20:15):
Yeah, that's something else.
Speaker 7 (01:20:18):
But see, I've never in gold Pan before, and so
and Jeff pop Hadden, so we were all this is
we watched the team in front of us and watched
people in front of us do it. Okay, that looks
pretty easy, right right.
Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
Yeah, as I was the first to go in it.
Speaker 7 (01:20:36):
Dang that it's two thirty eight, but it seemed like
ten minutes I was there doing that crap.
Speaker 4 (01:20:42):
I mean, it's just the team.
Speaker 7 (01:20:44):
The time was like stand us, so come on find it.
Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
Yeah, and Debbie was cool, right, she was giving little
hints and yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:20:50):
Oh yeah, yeah, she's great. She was great.
Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
I think the anxiety of of losing something out of
the pan was was getting making me low down more
than you know, I could have been more aggressive, because
I just was worried I was going to lose it
out of the pan, and then you know, and it
happened to Jeff.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
He lost it twice.
Speaker 8 (01:21:10):
I lost I lost two of them in the pan below,
so I had to start over, Oh wow, and get
those last two out of there. So yeah, that was
really makes you anxious.
Speaker 2 (01:21:21):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 4 (01:21:22):
You still did good because you were the technique that
taught you.
Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
I mean, she's wonderful, so wonderful, really was.
Speaker 1 (01:21:31):
I couldn't get those nuggets out of the pan because
they were flat. So when it would come up to
the top rim and I would see it, I'd go
down there with my little pudgy fingers and I'd be
trying to grab that thing and slide it up out
of the water, and and I couldn't grab it. I
spent like ten seconds trying to grab one of them,
and then I'd push it back into the sand and
I had to tap on it again to get it
back up. It was crazy.
Speaker 7 (01:21:52):
Jeff had that same problem. He couldn't pick it up.
His fingers were big fingernails.
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
Yeah, yeah, I think I got three. And what did
you get? Tony two?
Speaker 2 (01:22:03):
Forty to forty four? Cindy had one forty very fat.
Speaker 5 (01:22:11):
She did she did a great job with that.
Speaker 2 (01:22:12):
She did a fantastic Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:22:16):
That's what I like about everyone contributed, you know what
I mean. It was real team effort, and uh it was.
It was a lot of fun. Man. It was even
rooting on the other teams. Like I remember, we're getting
ready for the claim jumper hunt and everyone's in their quadrant.
I remember, like I knew we had a bunch of
time until first, so like I went down the line
wishing everyone well, you know what I mean, and good luck,
(01:22:38):
and it was just it was like one of those
things where you wanted to see everyone do well, but
you also had that little competitive siety.
Speaker 4 (01:22:44):
You were just like, well within reason to do well.
Speaker 2 (01:22:50):
Reason right, right. I do want to say on the
on the the relay there that was the claim jumper. Yeah,
uh he he was stuck on Zone one for the
whole time. I don't know how many how many tokens
he dug, but I think he was the last one
in zone one and I think he went past the
(01:23:12):
thirty minutes and that his rest of his team came
in to help him because he was still on Zone
one looking for that darn token.
Speaker 4 (01:23:20):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
Yeah, yeah, sometimes it's just luck. You know, it just
was like, just ye, we started where we started. There
happened to be the token we were looking for right
off the step. And you know it didn't mean we
were better, better metal detectors or anything like that. Put
the coil over it here, the tone and dig it up.
I know, I had my dais switched on a program
that was just yes or no. It was just either
(01:23:43):
on or off. Man, So anything it said on, I
was hitting it. I didn't you know, I wasn't looking
at numbers. I was just digging anything that was strong.
Speaker 6 (01:23:51):
Figure.
Speaker 2 (01:23:52):
There was a lot of trash out there.
Speaker 6 (01:23:54):
Team two and Team seven man, we were neck and
neck there towards that last event, you know, with their
gold panting. In that one event they were fast.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Yeah. No, we took first in gold panning and tokens.
I think, yeah, you guys took first in target ID
and and go clean jumper. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:24:19):
So it was close, man, right there.
Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
It was close one point one point. This would have
been us.
Speaker 1 (01:24:31):
Look at that, we should have we should have superimposed
our faces on all their forefaces. We're just wishful thinking.
Speaker 2 (01:24:38):
That's right now.
Speaker 4 (01:24:40):
I mean we'll get to check. That doesn't matter that's right.
Speaker 1 (01:24:43):
There you go. Everyone was hooping and hollering. Man, it
was a lot of fun, Like everyone was really excited.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
At the end.
Speaker 7 (01:24:48):
Steve was talking much crap on the satellite. Steve talking
much crap.
Speaker 1 (01:24:53):
I know he was.
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
He was trying to get in my head. He was
trying to get in my head like no other.
Speaker 1 (01:24:58):
We were telling our alternate go over there and shut
him up because she's a big talker as well.
Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
You know, it's funny, that's fun.
Speaker 7 (01:25:11):
But you guys are great. You guys are well. After
we got over, we were in initial disappointment.
Speaker 4 (01:25:16):
You were second place finishers.
Speaker 1 (01:25:22):
Yeah, all kidding aside. Man, Absolutely, it was great, man,
because I would like that it was neck and neck,
you know what I mean, Like that's good competition. We
were watching scores come in, you know, and then like
when they were filling out the final scores. I know,
Tony's like looking around Debbie trying.
Speaker 2 (01:25:38):
To see He's like, oh my god, we won the gold.
Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
Pen, you know, because we didn't know where we stood.
Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
I was doing the thing, yeah, I was doing the math,
and I was like, I think we're gonna be one short.
Speaker 6 (01:25:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:25:52):
He came over, he said, I don't think we have
a chance.
Speaker 5 (01:25:54):
I we just can't have it.
Speaker 8 (01:25:58):
There, you go, Great, we got lucky.
Speaker 4 (01:26:03):
We got way lucky. We got way lucky. When you
guys couldn't finish higher in that last.
Speaker 9 (01:26:08):
I told them, after experiencing that event in Iowa, your
chances are just like anybody else's.
Speaker 6 (01:26:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
Absolutely, absolutely. It could have been open for anybody. Yep.
And we had a great time doing it too. It
was It was great, you know, have the competition and
some camaraderie came out of it. For sure. I definitely,
you know, I really enjoyed it. I had a great
time for sure.
Speaker 6 (01:26:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Shout out to Debbie mine lab thanks for bringing that
out to us. Hope we can do it again sometime,
if not in Alabama, sometime back here in Colorado. So
let's do this. Let's get together and dig somewhere here
locally together. I'd be fine, keep up that connection, and
then let's go to Alabama. Let's all go to Alabama
and represent Colorado. And I'm down if one of us
(01:26:53):
can bring it bring.
Speaker 4 (01:26:54):
It home there you go, that'd be awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
Yeah, I mean all right, very cool. Well, we're about
out of our time. We're about an hour and a half.
Can you believe it goes by so quick?
Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
Doesn't it?
Speaker 1 (01:27:08):
What it we'll do is we'll let you, guys kind
of say your final piece, anything you want to say
to those listening or watching, and then we'll put you
down to the green room and then we'll close the
show out and we'll Tony and I will join you
in the green room and we'll sayah, goodbyes off the air,
you guys. Okay with that?
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Okay? Cool? Steve, go ahead, what do you what do
you like to stay? To those watching and listening?
Speaker 9 (01:27:27):
Thanks to Eureka Treasure Hunters Club and putting the Rush
to Rockies on because it was a great event and
I really enjoyed hanging out with you guys and getting
to know you.
Speaker 6 (01:27:36):
A little bit better. It was really a lot of fun.
Speaker 4 (01:27:40):
So cool.
Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
Yeah. Likewise, thanks? How about Run.
Speaker 7 (01:27:44):
Well, Yeah, Echo did a great job. I didn't know
you guys. I seen your faces on some of the
Facebook groups. I didn't know who you were, but now
we know you a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:27:55):
Now you wish you didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:28:02):
Uh more often? I hope?
Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
Yeah, absolutely glad you were there for sure. How about Gary?
Speaker 8 (01:28:09):
Yeah, Rush was great? Master's Medals great, had a great time.
Thanks for having me on the show. Guys, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
Okay, we'll put you in the green room. We'll be
right with you, be right, be right down there. Okay, yeah,
great guys.
Speaker 2 (01:28:30):
Man, we had I can't believe we had those guys
on what how do we think?
Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
And that image, that picture right there is burned into
my memory. Man, I just burned into my eye socket.
It's like when I go to sleep at night, I
see that picture. I was like, man, it's you.
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
Know, it's the same thing. Like Ohio State when they
lost to Michigan. They had the score up on the
on the on their their blackboard for the whole year
and they use that for motivation. Well, guess what.
Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
We have my motivation. Sure, that's all I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
No, what an incredible group of guys. You know, it
was fun. Like like Ron said, you know, we had
never met in person, talked or anything like that. And
I tell you, either any of those guys, you know,
all of a sudden they get a text from him
and say, hey, let's go digging or something, or you know,
let's go have a beer. We'll be there. You know
it a lot of the hunting. Like we said that,
(01:29:21):
you know, it can be a lot about just the people,
you know, and I think I think this weekend was
a lot about the people. And I had a great
time with with everybody there.
Speaker 1 (01:29:32):
Just like Jason said, that was the thing that blew
him away the most, was there. Yeah, it never been
around that many people that would understand the thrill of
a saddle badge or a three ring of bullet. Right,
There's not too many people in your life that you
talk about a three ring or dirty old bullet and
they would get excited about. But almost everyone who's their
mind would get excited about that, you know, right.
Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:29:52):
No, one more thing to mention before we get out
of here, but.
Speaker 2 (01:29:54):
The kids hunt. Yeah we didn't mention that.
Speaker 1 (01:29:57):
Incredible thanks to Knack there for supplying a metal hector
for the kids hunt and really supporting the whole, the whole,
the whole event. But seeing those kids out there hunting
and some of them were using detectors and they were
digging holes and stop the littlest kid filling his hole
and stomping down his hole, like repairing his hole, Like
(01:30:18):
it was.
Speaker 2 (01:30:18):
So cool to see.
Speaker 1 (01:30:19):
I got that on video actually, But that's the next generation. Man,
We've got to support those kids that are kind of
be coming up behind us and.
Speaker 5 (01:30:27):
Teaching them how to do it right.
Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
So that was a lot of fun to watch. Yeah,
And I think the youngest one won that Mini Horde
as well. I think maybe four years old and he
got it out of the box and wanted to just
go use it right away. That's his new machine. And
