Never a better time for us to shine a light on a promising young New Zealand talent - shooting guard Mackenzie Chatfield. She is joined by our NZ expert Linden Moore (who featured in Ep79) and was courtside at many of the recent tournaments Mackenzie made her mark at, including the Schick 3x3 with Harbour Breeze and winning New Zealand’s Secondary School Championship with Westlake Girls High School putting in a commanding 12 assists to help them bring in the silverware.
At only 17, Mackenzie recently graduated from Westlake and is about to embark on her hoop dreams of attending US College and improving her game, “My goal every day is to wake up and get better whether that's 1% 2% whatever…” Eager to learn and inspired by her development experience at the Northern Kāhu, one of five teams in the Tauihi League alongside basketball stars Micaela Cocks, Tahlia Tupaea and Krystal Leger-Walker she understands to be your best you need to work alongside and learn from the best.
Her recent stint as part of New Zealand’s U18 Asia Cup Campaign was key for both her exposure to the highly competitive international level of basketball as well as motivation to develop her own game.
Mackenzie is our first developing talent on Shooting the Breeze from across the Tasman, and with a maturity beyond her years watch her fly!
