Okay, so you're a Star Wars-loving dad, or maybe just a Star Wars fan in general, right? Then you've GOT to hear check out this week's episode! We're chatting with Todd and Trent Hoffman, a father-son duo who are seriously next-level when it comes to their Star Wars obsession.

Seriously, it's like passing down the Force itself! They dive into their Star Wars origin stories, and trust me, it's hilarious. Todd's got this slightly traumatizing memory of AT-ATs from way back in 1980 (don't worry, it made him who he is today!), and Trent's first word? "Boba." Apparently, Dad was giving him character lessons right there on the changing table! Talk about dedication.

But it gets even better. Todd's fandom got a serious boost from the Expanded Universe novels (now Star Wars Legends), and he even joined the 501st Legion! Trent, on the other hand, is the modern Star Wars guru, keeping his dad straight on blaster models and Rancor puppet trivia. It's a generational thing, you know?

What's really cool is how Star Wars has become their own special family language. They're quoting Sith showdowns, drawing parallels between Anakin's story and, get this, biblical themes! It's way deeper than just liking spaceships and lightsabers.

And they've even started their own podcast, inspired by Tatooine Sons! They talk about meeting other fans, debating whether "Skeleton Crew" is basically "Goonies in space" (it IS, right?), and geeking out over "Andor."

Honestly, Todd and Trent are proof that a shared love of Star Wars can be a seriously powerful way to connect. This episode is heartwarming, hilarious, and a total blast (with a blaster, of course!). You absolutely have to tune in! You'll laugh, you'll nod in agreement, and you might even feel inspired to share your own Star Wars story with the next generation.

May the Force (and this podcast episode) be with you!

battles to Mandalorian Hart Tugs. Join us on this episode

(00:46):
Wars is the ultimate dad kid glue stick around. You'll

(01:21):
The hosts of Big T and Lil T, a Star
Wars podcast Todd and Trent Hoffman for In My Family.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
All right, Todd, let's start. Let's set the scene with this,
because you saw Empire at five five years old? Right
years old, that's a pretty that's like a formative age.
Like that's like the earliest you like have memories from
is It's probably.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
One of my earliest cognitive memories exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
So what's the strongest memory we have from that experience?

Speaker 3 (01:53):
The strongest memory have is like we kind of came
in late and the theater was Ice Call and it's
in hath and I said.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Down's like real, like like a four D type experience.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Man, the the Wampa scene like just shook me. I
was just like, okay, scary monster. And then the guy
you know, and then I don't know who this person
is and he grabs the lightsaber and I'm just like
I'm in the first one, right, Yeah, that was the
first one. And then I'm pretty sure I slept on
my parents' floor for probably a good month because the

(02:32):
ad ats like when Luke is like trying to get
out and the things about this crush them. Like I
had a dream that I was Luke Skywalker and the
snow Speeder and I was gonna get crushed. So I'm
pretty sure I was traumatized. But it is my favorite
vehicle of all time as the ad at so it
was kind of like a love hate thing, you know.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
So it's so funny. That's funny. I was talking with
Spencer from the Virtual canteena network in year. Oh okay cool,
so yeah, so Spencer, Spencer started It's the largest Star
Wars celebration group on Facebook. It's got like two hundred
thousand members on that, and he started that and we

(03:11):
were talking about it and he went to Empire when
he was four yea. His dad took him and he
got freaked out during the scene where in Hath when
Chewbacca was helping to repair the Millennium Falcon. He was welding,
and he started freaking out and like causing a huge

(03:31):
scene in the theater because he was worried that Chewie
was going to get either electrocruited or burn himself, and
he started he started screaming to his dad that somebody
needed to make it stop, and his dad had to
take him out of the theater and they could. They
never finished the movie, but it's his favorite Star Wars
movie exactly, exactly, So, Trent, your introduction to Star Wars

(03:55):
like two and a half years old, The Force Awake Awakens. Man,
you're a little like you probably don't. Do you remember
anything about seeing the Force Awakens or what's the earliest
Star Wars memory that you had what sticks with you?

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yeah, the earliest that I can remember was the last
Jedi list right now I'm thinking about or it could
be recently we watched it. But the latest iage remember
was one Luke is talking to Java. That's the one
I remember.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
I mean return to Jedi.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Yeah, oh, from earliest moment from that, but the newest
from there.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
There is a connection though, there's a connection. So when
we went to see Force Awakens, yeah, yeah, I think
he was about two and a half, you know whatever.
Uh he yells at the top of his lungs when
they show I mean, it's a quick shot, but they
show where Ray's at and it's a down to ad At, right,

(04:55):
So he goes, right, Dad, that's an ad At.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Like I was like two and a half years old.
I was like, yes, my boy, that's right, let's go.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Any ad moment I'm like, yeah, I mean you were.
Unfortunately he had no choice. I'm pretty sure he probably
watched Empire when he was like zero, like here you go,
we're gonna watch. And then we had we had a
changing table. Okay, so changing table in his room and

(05:31):
above the changing table was like cute little pictures of
like Star Wars characters. So every day I would go
through them. I'm like, okay, that's our two. That's so
you know every day. And then first word was boba
both so you're you were dustined. So yeah, but you.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Not only was your first like your words in the theater,
ad ad, but you said it the right way, correct, right.
You didn't say at at. You said it the way
we did is we were when we were kids. It
was ad at, wasn't it, Todd? Right exactly exactly? It
was like, will back us up on that because they.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Said, you go, yeah, so it's at Well people say
at a t I say ad at, you know so.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Because that's right, right, right, and we've established that. That's awesome.
You guys are both really involved in the Star Wars community.
You guys are obviously you do this amazing podcast together,
and Todd you've been doing podcasts, like since they started.
I think with podcasts, I feel.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Like I missed the Like I feel like I missed
it just a little bit because, uh, you know, because
everybody was getting on the badwagon for you know, Phantom
Menace or whatever. I don't know, I didn't know about
podcasts for a long time. So yeah, but no.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Yeah, and then you you got you know, you're involved
in the Fible first and all that so so so
much fun. Todd, what inspired you to I mean, obviously
Star Wars is a big deal to you, but what
inspired you to kind of take your fandom to the
next level? And how has it kind of evolved over
the years. Was it sort of just this little thing
that kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger or or

(07:14):
how did that? How did that come?

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah, I mean it's it's kind of progressive obviously, So
I know this hard to believe, but kind of got
Star Wars for a little bit after you know, the
eighties and because there's nothing it was done, you know.
And then but one day I was in high school
and this kid's reading a Star Wars book. I'm like, dude,

(07:35):
what is that? Like it just like triggered and He's like, oh,
this is this new Timothy's On book, The Empire, and
I'm just like, I must read this Star Wars and
I needed reading that at the time, you know, like
who wants to read at high school? You know? And
uh and so I read that. I did not put
that book down. It was like it was like I

(07:56):
don't because I bowered his like I didn't have original copy,
Like so I do have a new one that Timothy's
On signed, but like, yeah, that's kind of where it started.
Was like, oh yeah, I really like these characters. I
resonate this is after Return of Jedi and it was perfect.
It was really awesome, and so yeah, and then it

(08:17):
just kind of progressed into Okay, started reading Dark Horse comics.
There's the Dark Empire series, and I was like, okay, yeah,
you know, so I started drinking the koul A a little
bit more. And then there's PC games. There was like
an x Wing game and a tie Fighter game, and
that kind of continue to fuel the fire. So like
at this point, I'm like, yeah, I'm I'm all in.

(08:40):
And as we were just talking before, what really kind
of sent me over the edge was kind of right
before the Special Distance came out, they started re releasing
Power of the Force, and I'm in college, you know,
I'm making barely any money. I got like a little
little pizza money, and I go to Toys r US
on a whim, just the whatever, and there was like

(09:01):
a full aisle of Star Wars figures, and I'm just like,
what is happening? You know, so obviously all of them
are yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
It was like it was like, I.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Mean I had Star Wars figures as growing up, you know, like,
but I you know, obviously didn't have a ton, but
it was still kind of nostalgic and the fact that like, oh,
now I have a little pizza money that now I
will turn over to Star Wars and start getting figures.
So that's kind of how it all snowballed. And then

(09:33):
I would say, fast forwarding a little bit, you know,
prequels are coming out. It started, you know, it's like, oh,
this is this is real, you know, this is real.
And then we went to celebration two and three in
Indianapolis because it was right down the way from US
from Chicago, and right then and there, I was like

(09:54):
it was like the first kind of just like oh,
there's other people you know, again this is for social media, uh,
before before the internet, like where it's like, oh my gosh,
there's other people that like Star Wars and that like
just literally blew my mind because like it was like, yeah,
I have my little fan group that we all eighties
kids loved Star Wars, but I just didn't think it

(10:16):
was like that big. And so that was like kind
of very eye opening experience. And even though like obviously
that was a little bit slower or smaller than obviously
in today's standards, but back then, I was just like,
there's other people and like, you know, some people are
coming across the country or across the you know, the world. Yeah,

(10:38):
it was like, this is really bizarre because like I
think at that time, I was reading Star Wars Insider
and the first celebration was in Denver and it was
like a flood fast or something like Colorado. Yeah, and
uh and so we I didn't make it out there,

(10:58):
but I was like and when they anounced Indian, like,
there's no question, so was it for free or now, no,
it wasn't for free. Yeah. So my son Jordan, uh
he he was six or seven at the time, and
that was right when like Spider Man came out the

(11:18):
first Toby, you know, and I was like, and so
we went to see Spider Man the day before the
like we were in Indye. We saw it that night
before celebration kicked off, and uh, it was just a
really core memory, like he's jump around like Spider Man
and having a lightsaber. It was a lot of fun.
But that's where it kind of kicked off. And that's where, Uh,

(11:41):
there's a long answer to a short question. It's just
like with a Fible first. That was my first experience
of the Fible first. And what they did then was
they were just like security guards, like they were just
they they they put him strategically at like you know,
like a showcase or like at an entrance or something

(12:02):
like that, and they're just standing there and I'm just like,
this is the coolest thing ever, you.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Know, how do I get that gig?

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Right? I was like, it's just like like that used me.
And then we were in line to get the just
to get in and they were taking their picture on
the stairs and they're all there like you know, and
again in current standards, it was small, but just seeing

(12:33):
a bunch of white stormtroopers, I was just like, oh,
I have to do this, Like it was like it was.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Not even so were you like in right away? Like
you like, how do I sign up? What do I
have to do to get qualified? Is that not what
you would do?

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Unfortunately that's a much of a longer story of size
and moans, and but I mean it was a long time.
So that was what two thousand and two. I did
not get in until twenty sixteen. So wow. Yeah, so
it took me a while. It took me a while.
So but how long.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Did you have to work on your kit before you
were able to qualify to get in?

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Yeah, and so you know, I'm not very crafty at all,
and so and I didn't know like the dude from
England that you know. It was kind of almost like
a little insider baseball where it's like you had to
know a guy that knew a guy that knew had
the bolts from original and it was like it was
almost too much. It was like and very expensive, like

(13:28):
I'm like, I am not phoning up like you know,
three thousand dollars to get this or whatever. So but anyways,
a Novos at the time was just kicking off and
it was like it was like a May fourth special
and it was like that's the kid I got, and
so it was like five hundred bucks and I was

(13:49):
just like sold, you know, and then we're in. It
took it took a long time to get in, so
I I mean, well, first of all, it took a
long time. Took almost like a year before I got it,
and then it took another eight months and then like
my goal was Halloween, so like I don't know, I

(14:09):
got in February and I was like barely getting it
done before Halloween. But that was like that was awesome.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
So yeah, cool, And you went to that celebration that
started all of this for you. That was with your
other son, with your older son.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yes, yeah, so I have I have three kids. So
I have Jordan, who's thirty, and then I have Trent,
who's twelve, and then Elly that's nine. So Jordan was
my prequel kid. So when I met my wife jen Uh,
he was about five. And so yeah, so we missed

(14:46):
we missed ninety nine with Phantom Menace, but Attack of
the Clones a Revenger of Sith. I'm like, this is
this is what we're in.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Yeah, So it's been I love that you went to
celebration that first time with your with your son, because
that's how Sam and I and Nate and I got
into this too. It was the same type of experience, right.
So I had moved to California for a job, and
I moved before they.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Did, and so you're out there by yourself.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
I was out there by myself, and I was like,
what can I do? Sometime there was going to be
like a six seven month period where I was going
to be out there and Sam and Natan Christie were
going to still be in Colorado, and I'm like, what's
something that we can do to make it kind of
like a special moment for us during this period of time.
And I found out about the fortieth anniversary in celebration

(15:32):
in Orlando for twenty seventeen. We had never been to
a con of any kind, like I mean not even
like your little tiny, little you know, local like.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
All con right, yeah, yeah, no.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
We had never done anything like this, right, And so
it was like the weekend before Christmas, and I'm like
getting ready to move in a few weeks, and I'm
like looking online and I find out about it and
I just bypass all day passes for all of us, right,
And like I'm telling Chris, I'm like, yeah, well you
will fly them down and She's like, what, They're gonna
fly down themselves and you're gonna meet them there. I'm

(16:05):
like all this other stuff, and so yeah, we met
down there, and you know, I spent literally the twenty
four hours after before before the con started, before celebrations started,
telling them, guys, this is not going to be what
you think it's going to be. It's not going to
I mean, it's it's going to be smaller, it's going
to be don't don't expect it to be a big deal.

(16:28):
I'm lowering expectations, convinced that this was going to be nothing.
And then we walk in there that first morning and
I'm like, holy cow, what is this? And we spent
We're standing in line for hours and hours for the
fortieth anniversary panel. Yeah, and I remember all of us
just kind of looking and we're like, we found our people.

(16:48):
You know, it's the same type of thing that you're
talking about. Yeah, we found our people. Trent. Have you
had a chance now, I know celebration was in Chicago
back in what twenty nineteen?

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Right? Yes?

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Yeah? Did you get were you have you been to
us all the ration yet, did you go to any
of him out or did you just are you still
waiting for your first Star Wars celebration experience.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
I've been to one, right yeah yeah twenty nineteen. Yeah, yeah,
yeah you did.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
You came nineteen. What was it like for you?

Speaker 4 (17:13):
I for me? I even I don't remember. Probably just
chilling the stroller.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
Probably, no, you're you're walking, chilling in the stroller.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
Just chilling in the stroller.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
So it's funny because that Chicago, like, uh, the whole
family got really sick, like right before we're supposed to go,
the whole family went sick. It got sick, and uh
so but he was able to go like one day
and we're able to go Sunday and we went to

(17:48):
the Mandalorian panel and that was a great panel, dude,
that was life changing. I was just like I just yeah,
we were We're so.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
Jacked me probably you.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
And you You were just like, oh my gosh. And
I'm like, this is the greatest thing ever, you know,
like it was.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
And he says it remember and he's like, maybe I
was just.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Chilling in I was chilling the stroller. Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
Like we went to we went to a bunch of
I mean like he was indoctrinated right away. I mean
we've been into like C two E two and a
bunch of bunch of comic cons and so celebration. You
probably just roll it all rolls together because you're like,

(18:30):
I was just probably just chilling man and a stroke.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Yeah, what's the one I was ching? What's the one?
I was chasing the stormtroopers?

Speaker 3 (18:36):
That was two? Yeah, yeah, you thought it was me, Like.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
You told me to go get him.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
I did tell him, but yeah, but I was not
it was not me because I was with you.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
Yeah, but I thought you were with me, told me
to go.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
I was, yeah, yeah, and you're just chasing after the stormtrooper.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
And how did you know? I was thinking it was you.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
I don't know, I was so you know, there's yeah,
I mean that was the other thing. Talk about the tribe,
like you know obviously we at that point. I was.
I didn't I didn't dress up in the five, like,
but I knew five of first people there. So they're
just giving him all kinds of stuff, Like every time

(19:17):
he turned around, he was doing something. Yeah, you were
getting all this kind of swag. You were just like,
oh yeah, here here it was. It was a great time.
You like have no memory of it, Yeah, we'll just have.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Old was how old were you in twenty nineteen?

Speaker 4 (19:32):
So twenty twelve?

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Just here the one you were six?

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Okay, that's hard to remember a bunch of stuff.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Yeah, it is hard to remember.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
I was trying to go backgrounds. I was like twenty
five before twelve.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
But but it really was then. I mean that was
that was at the point when COVID was it of COVID, No,
it was before COVID. Oh so wait, I remember twenty nineteen.
Started COVID twenty twenty.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
Yeah, so it was like December of twenty well yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Well that was in May. I think it was April
of twenty nineteen.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Yeah, it was April. So it was before COVID about a.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Year we saw you there were.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Yeah, absolutely, Yeah. It was so much fun. We almost
didn't make it because they had a blizzard in Colorado
that was coming in. We had to leave, like our
flights were scheduled to leave as the blizzard was at
its worst spot in time, and so I had to
like cancel, like try to call out, call into work

(20:35):
a day early, like get out of work and try.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
And then earlier basically.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Call we call it. I remember calling Southwest and like,
here's the situation. I got to get here to this
with my kids and all this other stuff. I'm like,
I need to move my flight up twenty four hours?
How much is that going to cost? And the lady
was I was on old for like an hour and
a half trying to get old of somebody, and then
finally she's like, oh yeah, I'll just move you on
the flight to tomorrow. Can you be at like six am.

(21:01):
I'm like, we're there. We got there, so so then
and then it was a weird. It was a weird
that the lottery system was like right there in like
twenty four or forty eight hours before the con at
that to get into the panels. So we're in line
at TSA and I'm like doing the lottery on my
phone while we're trying to get through to get up.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
I mean, we got really lucky, or at least I did.
I was able to get into the Rise of Skywalker
one Amanda one, and I did get into The Phantom
Mass one, but we didn't go on Monday because I
was like I think it was Thursday to Monday, which
was crazy.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
I think the only one that we didn't get into
was and Or. I think there was in the and
Or first panel or No for celebrating celebration. Yeah, talk
to me a little bit about what makes Star Wars
work for you. So we've got lightsabers and spaceships and
all that cool stuff. But what is it about Star
Wars that you just that I mean, it's obviously you'll

(22:05):
get kicked out of the family if you don't love
Star Wars. That's pretty obvious. But but but you know,
other than the fact that you you like to eat
and have a place to live, what is it about
Star Wars that you love so much?

Speaker 4 (22:17):
Probably since the introdution, how the scenes from uh Empire
Strikes Back all the way up to now. Is like,
I've all the lightsaber.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
Scenes and all the lightsaber guys.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Yeah, and also all the scenes the story cry. I
always cry? When do I? When's the one movie I
did cry? It was a Revenge of the Sith or something,
is it?

Speaker 1 (22:44):
I mean they're all pretty heavy. They get some heavy
and some of them.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Yeah, I mean that was fun. That was fun. That
was fun. Just was that recently? That was recently?

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Right?

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Yeah, that when they did it for the week uh release. Yeah,
front's favorite it. We may or may not have rescided
the whole last scene word for we're like screaming at
the top.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Oh my gosh, you were those guys in the theater, those.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Guys like we were just I mean, my wife's like
really I also my favorite scene of that is the
opera scene you know about and so I am quoting
a word for word and my wife John just leans

(23:36):
over like really, I'm just like, this is the best.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
Dad. I've regret this so much for I was so tired.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Oh we have to see and or no no no
and a rogue one.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
Yeah, slept the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
No, you know, I get that.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Yeah, I mean he loves he loves lightsabers.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
And yes, I lovedy Tartakovski.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
He loves we love.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
That's great stuff. Awesome.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
I love.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
My favorite character is dirty. I love the one he
gets stubbed by the lights are by Obi Wan. He
just starts laughing.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
That's that's my favorite part. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
The reason why is because of the sound he makes.
I was like, that's an interesting sound. I'm wondering how
they like and yeah, I don't know if it just
sounded like muffled, it sounded like raspy.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Yeah, but it's been fun. Like we've been going through
the inside magic, you know, oh yeah, yeah, magic. And
that's He's like, Dad, I didn't you know, like because
it's cool understanding how you know, sometimes the sausage is made.
But like it's like, oh my gosh. We like the

(25:02):
Rank Corps. You know, it's like that's a puppet.

Speaker 4 (25:05):
I was like, you always tell.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
Me to watch Phil Tippett and then talk about how
that created and then slowing it down, reversing it. All
that kind of stuff is just like some crazy, fascinating
I think I've watched that series three times just because
I'll just turn it on right while I'm doing something else.
It's so cool.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
They were definitely creative geniuses when it comes to that stuff.
But yeah, it's cool kind of going through that.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
Yeah, and you like.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
The TV I mean the TV shows. We've really loved
the TV series.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
Besides that one. No, I'm curious. I want to know
you got to say it now you started.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
Just like I get that. The only well we call
him Darth Toothy the Stranger because he's got a very yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Yeah, yeah, that's the only cool one.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
And he went hard on the lightsaber stuff.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
That I understand they're trying to be friend me, but
he don't care. I want some guy, just get the
slice seduff like a mortal, that finisher, like a mortal,
that finisher.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Yeah, I know they want a little but the lightsaber
site fights were the battles were awesome.

Speaker 4 (26:13):
I didn't know he was like he just snapped the
guy's neck and just like Kurbab two and.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Oh yeah do double kay he hit the shotgun. Okay,
I don't need to be a practice dummy.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
What's your what's your favorite of all the lightsaber battles
that you love so much? Which one is your favorite?

Speaker 3 (26:38):
That's a good question.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Revenge of the One, the Battle of the Heroes, the
Moustafar battle, right, Yes.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
Also the best thing is like, especially some of the
behind the scenes stuff that you've watched, it's like that's
real time, dude, that is not even sped off.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
They had to tell them to slow down during the practice.
They had to tell them. They got so good at
those battles that they had to tell you in and
Hayden when they were filming it, you've got to slow
this down a little bit. I mean they're like, it's
too fast, it's so fast, it's amazing.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
Well they should have I want to see it if
they have a deleted scene after that, Yeah, I want
to see if they have like a deleted scene.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
There's yeah, there's tons of those cool deleted scenes about it.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
I love it. But remember have you seen the one
with Mace Windu and Django?

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Have you seen that one?

Speaker 1 (27:29):
The deleted scene or I don't think.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
Instead of the so how he raised guys who slices
his arm and just cuts my eyes? But in the
think he slices his thigh. Yeah, then head right, and
I'm like, dude, that's kind of brutal. But it's I
feel like.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
And you're sitting there thinking, man, I wish they would
have left that one in there. That one was rough man.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
Yeah, and also are you.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
Have a little conversation later about taking into counseling or
there there's some there's some some some repressed anger in here.
That's cool.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
I think George got so furious. It's gonna like the
most smallest allance c g I. It costs them so
much by Django, Like with the release, all people thought,
why could he not fly up. It's because the one whatever,
the Rea ran over, okay, and he put the sporks in.
Just say, hey, he broke bro broke, but in the

(28:31):
original one he didn't him do it.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
That's interesting. So tell me tell me you like the
Disney you like some of the series other than the Acolyte,
which you've already had our fun with the Acolyte. But
what's your favorite of all of the other Disney series.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
There's and or what's There's and or what else?

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Soa Skeleton Crew fun? What did you like about Skeleton Crew?
I like Skeleton Crew a lot.

Speaker 4 (28:58):
I love how they're just kids and just put them
in the real world. But the thing I understand they're
not trained, but at least I wish they put up
a little bit more of a fight instead of being
the kind of.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Well, yeah they were not very aggressive.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
Yeah they should have like if.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
But I think it was fun, like with Whim, you know,
like Wim was like, I'm gonna be the hero and
then he couldn't turn on the lightsaber.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
Yeah, my fat was, uh, what's what's his name?

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Neil?

Speaker 4 (29:30):
Neil? What the like? That's tough girl? Like she's like
that whatever the tribal that she's tribal, but she's like
with the group and she's like so hard ReCore.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
Oh yeah, just like it's like a lover. He's just like,
hey man, it's.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Like I think Neil gets a kiss from her.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Got some hot game, man.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
Honestly, I loved I loved Skeleton Crew, and I'm sure
Todd you felt the same way watching it. It felt
like we were going back to the eighties watching Goonies
and et and all of that.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
You could say, Goonies in space or whatever. I mean,
I thought it was really cool and I liked I like,
really liked Jude's laws character, Like you didn't the main.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Uh whatever his name was that episode, right, it changed every.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Episode, just like I just like that first of all
he had multiple names and that you didn't know what
the truth was. I thought that was very interesting how
they they did that and played off of that, you know,
the whole series. So that was cool. Yeah, and I
liked I liked the idea to the other idea. That's
kind of like the kids thought they lived on the

(30:42):
most boring planet and it was because like there are
a bunch of accountants and.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Like, oh this is I'm going to be an analyst
when I grow up. I'm so excited.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
I want to be I want to crunch some numbers.
And it's like, oh, this is boring, right, it hurts,
it hurt my brain.

Speaker 4 (31:00):
And its hey, we're gonna take this test for five hours.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
And and Whim's dad was just like like, you know,
just really to the book.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
And I'm just like, oh gosh, I'm glad you're not
to the book.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Thank you. But but but but then when they got
off planet, and then they find out that their planet
is actually very special. It was kind of a cool
Justice exition there.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
And they have like a pure everybody just goes crazy.
He uses far as lunch.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Funny, right, They're throwing out the gold like you know, hey,
man making the rain, like this is what we use.
And everybody's like, oh my gosh, where'd you get that cash?
You get those credits?

Speaker 4 (31:40):
So I feel we saw some guys getting high off
the the like breathing treatment, like they're like they're like stoned.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
Yeah, what are they doing. I'm like they're doing some job.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Of the same stuff that Saw does and or and
you know, actually.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Yeah, that racing fuel, that's all it is. Well, what's
so what you really find out and and Or is
that that fuel is very toxic and he basically getting
high off it and that's what he's.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Breathing and it's killing him at the same time. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
Yeah, every every.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Every dose is killing him a little bit more. And
it's like that's why in Rogue one he can't talk,
he's because he can't breathe anymore.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
That was a great saw man that.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
He like.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
Ol thro.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
We got to school now of deadly.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
Yeah, he was.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
That speech is so good. His speech with what's that
guy's name part of and Or's crew or whatever, that.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
Was just so cool about Like he also kind of
got a little high.

Speaker 3 (33:01):
Oh yeah, I know you're talking about the well yeah,
because remember he had the goggles on in the breathing apparatus,
like take.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
It off, made him experience it, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Feel the freedom, like feel the freedoms, like fight four
thousand there, we got there.

Speaker 4 (33:16):
We got our sixty four or five thousand, you got dogs.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
Yeah, a little hookah going on there.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Yeah, he just had some herbs in that one, so.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
Well it was.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Yeah, yeah kind of yeah. It was the eighties, you know,
and that's right, that's right.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
Also Todd. You mentioned that watching Star Wars with with
your kids, and uh, it's changed your perspective. Give me
an example of a of a moment in the films
that maybe hits differently now that you're seeing it through
their eyes, or maybe a situation where where just it
just your perspective is different because now you're a dad

(34:02):
versus when you were watching it as a kid.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Yeah, I think. I mean, there's always stories in Star Wars.
And again we don't have a good uh, there's not
a lot of good Star Wars dads and Star Wars,
but there's still you know, it's like, oh it's good,
I'm by Uncle Louke will take care of them. Yeah,

(34:26):
you just leave. He's like, I don't know about.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
This kid, and I gotta go find the millennium Falcon.
So we're gonna make a comic book about it now.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
But I just like, I like using Star Wars, you know,
as teaching moments, you know, and again for us, we're
you know, we're Christians, and we just like bringing it
back to the Bible. And you know, Anakin's probably although
Boba FET's my my my favorite character, Like Anakin is

(34:55):
like such a rich understanding of like be human and
it's like very flawed, but very very gifted, and it's like, okay,
you know, this is why why he went down this path.
And like there's still the the you know again Star
Wars about hope and family and your fown family, but

(35:17):
like there's a big hope aspect there with Anakin and
then really the Luke story of him just like loving
loving Darth Vader, loving Anakin and not looking at the appearance,
and it's a very it's a very christ Like thing
to do that just like I don't care who this is.

(35:39):
I know somebody deep inside is like that's my father,
you know. And it's actually his love that changes. Like
and the Emperor's like I'm gonna do the same thing
I did to your dad. I'm just gonna I'm I'm
gonna You're gonna be mine, you know. And the Emperor
is a great example of just everybody else is evil,
but like the Emperor, he's like he's not turney, like

(36:02):
you know, he ain't doing a hawks he is not
like you know, like no, this dude is like evil.

Speaker 4 (36:10):
People appeared to him as like if it's it's basically
based on Ponds. Yeah, like Germans.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Well, yeah, the empire is a little yeah based on fascists, Yeah,
like Germany, the Nazis. But but but he is the
ultimate empire emperor, the evil one, you know. And it's
like just seeing you know. And the other thing that
is very deceitful, like getting back to Anakin is like okay,

(36:40):
you can say padme, like that's the that's the crutch
that he gets him on. But it's like, yeah, he says, oh,
when he turns him to the dark side, he's like, together,
we can find life after. But he didn't find it.
He lied to him, you know. And it's like see,
that's the other thing, you know, like devil likes to
lie to you. He might it's a it's the snippet

(37:03):
of truth, you know. So those are a lot of
things that I mean, it's surface level stuff and it's
also deep stuff that we try to I try to
incorporate a lot, you know.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
You know.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
I think our other favorite part, especially with Mandalorian, is
like I think it's episode three or whatever where he
get hands off baby Grogu, Yoda, baby Yoda, whatever whatever
you want to call him, and uh, he he hands
him off, and I remember that moment where like Ellie

(37:36):
was small too, and she just started crying. She's like
why is she why is he letting him go back
to the mad guy, you know? And it was such
a like I didn't see it then, but like I
saw it immediately. I'm like, yeah, you're right, Like we
have to protect our kids, you know, and that like
that moment where he like gets back the ship and

(37:57):
he's like he what you know, like he went I
think I think the ball was gone on the lever
or something that was at that point, and he's like,
you know what, I'm not doing this anymore. I don't
care about the code. You know, that's not right, and
he goes back and then it was just like yeah,
you know.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
And also I love that series.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
Just thinking about this, it's not even part of the
thes what I'm saying about, like what we're talking about,
but I remember that Hot Toys made a ser I
warned you.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
He did warn me, Yes, Hot Toys.

Speaker 4 (38:33):
Maybe, uh Mandalorian I heard. Like there's like a lot
of people are very picky with their head scopes. They
want to be as realistic as possible, like sure, oh
he looks okay, but he doesn't look as realistic. He
looks a little weird.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
But is that the best patro?

Speaker 4 (38:45):
No, you could A lot of people could customize and
there's a lot of people that.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
Okay, I'm sure baby gir is cute.

Speaker 4 (38:51):
Yeah. Yeah, that's the one thing I remember that some
I think he wanted to get a key chain or
something you better than on, like a little key chain,
like some people were just the statue with Mandalorian and
Grogu or something. Remember, just keep on going.

Speaker 3 (39:10):
Go.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
It was like it was has there ever been a
time you've you've h corrected your dad on some bit
of Star Wars trivia or knowledge, like you knew something
he didn't know.

Speaker 4 (39:23):
Yeah, a lot of stuff, A lot of a.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Lot of stuff.

Speaker 1 (39:29):
Give me an example of something very humble.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
You can tell David, he's very humble.

Speaker 1 (39:33):
You can tell, that's right.

Speaker 3 (39:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
For I think for the I collected them like it's
not more so the stuff that I know, like what
they used, like hey, this is what they use and
this is what they actually did correct them stuff like hey,
oh yeah this was no, so this is what it
actually did, like they used.

Speaker 3 (39:50):
For I think we talking about like the blasters or whatever, like.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
The blasters, these moles and like yeah, or like they
used I think it was for what was it, the Raycorps.
I think they were working on doing and I think
they were trying to do like a one person job.
Oh yeah, and it's just too much.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
Yeah. He's like, Dad, they made a suit, like they
didn't make a suit. And he's like, look at this,
you know yeah they yeah. I think it's like he's
full of fun facts. Like I'm like, where did you
learn that?

Speaker 1 (40:26):
So he's been literally learning Star Wars since the crib.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
That's right, right, yeah, exactly, Like okay, so but yeah,
I mean like you always, you always, we're always fact
checking each other and I love fact Like, excuse me,
that's a d L forty four or whatever. You know.

Speaker 4 (40:46):
Yeah, I think I think the Hans blaster is made
out of a Mauser.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
Yeah it's a Mauser. Yeah. So yeah, like, well that's
a lot like with Battlefront you know that shut up
played Somemer this this recent He's like, Dad, I'm gonna
play baffront because there's been a recent push to get
Battlefront three and he's out there. He's like, dude, I
forgot how I love this guy. I'm like, dude, you
played that game addictively every day, like every day. Yeah,

(41:17):
that was a lot. That's how we kind of learned
the weapons and what they're called.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
And I think Battlefront two they Battlefront two is more
like Battlefield, but battle for one is more like a
movie in Star Wars, you know, so I think if.

Speaker 3 (41:34):
Yeah, but you were I mean that was the thing.
Like I think when Batfront two came out, you were
really young, and I was like, dude, I don't know
if you can play this game. He's like like, Okay,
here we go.

Speaker 4 (41:46):
I once it's a sense I know the movement since
I was very young, so it's very natural to come
to me with ye that's cool.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
Yeah, what's what's the best part of you in podcasting
and streaming and all that stuff. What's the best part
about doing that with your dad?

Speaker 4 (42:07):
Sharing our wisdom and knowledge about what we know?

Speaker 3 (42:12):
We uh me like cool people too, that's fun.

Speaker 4 (42:16):
Yeah, cool people on usually just like sharing our geekiness
and having fun.

Speaker 3 (42:22):
Yeah, like in you know again, yeah, not tune in
your own horner, but I am uh you know, you're
a big inspiration for that idea because like when when
we saw Mando.

Speaker 4 (42:37):
We start. I've always debated.

Speaker 3 (42:38):
Yeah, he's like, dude, we started before Mandalorian like, no,
we did not, we we didn't.

Speaker 4 (42:43):
Might we did little bits and in like, oh yeah,
we'll just start with ye talk for a little bit
with me and you. Then we really got into that's true.

Speaker 3 (42:51):
We did a couple of dry runs, yes we did. Yeah,
but it was really then. I'm just like, I loved
what you were doing with your sons, and I was
just like, this would be a perfect.

Speaker 4 (43:01):
Saw him we won from him or yes.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
Yeah, yeah, nice. It was like it was just like
a perfect entry point because I'm like, you know, it's
first TV Star Wars since the holiday special. I'm like,
and just seeing the trailer and the is arel we
got posters, we got we got the poster right like when.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
He chopped off the guy that.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
Was we're back to chopping people up againopping people.

Speaker 4 (43:36):
But that's so Mandalorian though they don't care.

Speaker 3 (43:39):
But but I mean, like they saw, they hoodwinked us,
They hoodwinked us because like they we didn't see baby
Grogu until you.

Speaker 1 (43:50):
Know, oh no, do you remember that moment Trent when
at the end of that first episode of the Mandalorian
when they showed baby Yoda. Do you remember what that
was like for you? That was a while back. That
was twenty nineteen, so how you were six?

Speaker 3 (44:03):
Yeah, I was like, yeah, just like ugh again, I'm
out of school today, all right.

Speaker 4 (44:11):
It was I was wondering, what is it? It looks
like a little Yoda. Yeah, like a little Yeah, they're
like fifty when they're born. They're like like an old
person by the.

Speaker 3 (44:21):
Like oh his little potato sacks.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
Still.

Speaker 3 (44:23):
But yeah, I mean like that that's been cool. I
mean like he even said, you know, like Dad, I
want to stream. I'm like, I don't know how to
do that. Uh, let me watch a twelve year old
explain it to me on the internet.

Speaker 4 (44:41):
Kid.

Speaker 3 (44:42):
I'm just like, oh man, I'm so old, sombling.

Speaker 4 (44:47):
Some people's voices are so annoying.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
Yeah, well, he just we wanted to make our own thing,
like I don't want to, you know, I didn't. I
get more charged off of creating things than consuming things,
you know. And so for me, it's not only sharing
the experience with Trent, but it's also just like a
creative juice to be like, all right, what are we
going to do? Let's make something, not just consume stuff.

(45:12):
I mean, it's okay to consume, but like that was
like why would people watch us play video games. I
don't understand this, okay, but we're gonna do it. He's like, yeah,
let's do this, and I'm like, okay.

Speaker 4 (45:22):
I think it was one day I start when I
just probably looked at some.

Speaker 3 (45:26):
Yeah, of course you're like, hey, let's stream and so it.
You know. So it's just like, you know, part of
the growth is just like learning how to do things.

Speaker 5 (45:36):
You know.

Speaker 3 (45:36):
It's like, all right, let's figure this out. And it's
been fun.

Speaker 1 (45:39):
Yeah. I look back.

Speaker 4 (45:40):
I was like, oh, I want to do like the
avatar thing, like you can see like I looked, I'm looking.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
Back, dude, I want to be like an an avatar
when we play. I'm like, dude, I am not.

Speaker 4 (45:50):
Yeah, I look back.

Speaker 3 (45:51):
I barely know what obs means. I can't do that's
what we used to stream stuff.

Speaker 4 (45:58):
I looked back and I was like, I think after
like once you like sometimes when I get onto something,
oh this is very interesting. Yeah if you about it,
And I'm like no, usually like yeah, I want to
do it. Like we did. We start a three prayer
like but not started. We started well.

Speaker 3 (46:14):
Yeah, he's been like, yeah, let's do a three D printer.
I'm like, okay, hold on, bro, like we let's slow down.
But I think it's been so fun just learning and
talking about Star Wars and again we're in a.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
Just being together and doing it together. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (46:30):
Yeah, And I think the hard thing too, is like
it's sometimes a chore and sometimes we just got to
pull back and just be like, okay, you know, we're
here just to enjoy this, not to be like, oh
I gotta get this update or you know, a lot
of times what we've been doing, especially with like even
and ors, like let's just do five minutes afterwards, like boom,

(46:51):
you know, real quick, because it's like sometimes it's just hard,
you know, it's like we want to enjoy it and
not not making a job basically just have fun with it.

Speaker 4 (47:01):
I know some guys he he always streams every damn Like, yeah,
at least an hour or two would be fine, but every.

Speaker 3 (47:09):
Day, Yeah, it's right. So it's a fine balance, as
you know, because there's so much coming out and you know,
like you move away from your phone for half a seconds,
like oh, here's a new announcement. You're like, what is happening?
You know, it's just like it's constant, so, which is
a great thing from a content perspective, like, well, there's
plenty of shows, you know, so yeah, but it's just

(47:32):
like even now, like just you know, just still being
able just to watch a movie and just just enjoy it.
You know. It's but but yeah, it's uh, it's been fun.
It's been fun. Yeah, right, this is madness.

Speaker 1 (47:49):
Okay, I know that was a little bit of a
train wreck, but ma'am, was it fun. I love talking
with Todd and trend Big Tea and Little Tea. And
if you're a dad who who's all about the Star
Wars life, this episode I'm sure hit home. We first
had Todd's story, and that reminds us how sharing the
saga with our kids can create really magical, unforced moments

(48:13):
like again Trent's first word being Boba, as well as
you know, all these amazing character lessons. There's a lot
of fun in all of that. Second, Viewing Star Wars
through our children's eyes shifts everything. Todd draw draws some
really powerful life lessons from Anakin's arc, tying in themes
of hope and family even some biblical parallels. These are

(48:36):
perfect for teaching empathy and redemption without preaching. And then, third,
their father and Son podcasting duo shows how Star Wars
fandom can feel. Creative bonding seems some vaguely familiar to
Tattooing Sons, from quoting epic duels to streaming games. It's
all about making memories together, not just consuming content. So

(48:57):
Dad's If this fired you up, you got to check
out Todd and Trent's show for more Geekee fun. Check
out Big Tea and Little Tea, a Star Wars podcast.
If you search on Google or whatever search engine you use,
I'm sure you're gonna be able to find it. And then,
of course, join our Little Tattooing Sons community on threads
and on Facebook to share your own stories. Can't wait

(49:19):
for you to hear more of our conversations next week.
May the Force be with you.
